Male Loneliness isn’t an epidemic. The epidemic is the overarching agenda to gaslight men 24/7 and keep them disconnected from women at all cost.

Not “separate”, because obviously people are still hooking up but disconnected on a cultural level.

Which is way more important, if you can desensitize people’s respect for a relationship, each other, or even sex.

Hedonism can take place.

“Male loneliness in a nutshell”

Depends, some guys who are alone aren’t lonely. Nor alone cause of rejection, some ppl don’t put themselves out there, women too, so Imagine how many lonely women there are.

The actual situation, is more men are walking away. “Epidemic” is just a buzz word to fear monger.

The narrative is women get more action cause they don’t have to do anything (laziness), action comes to them. so how many of them can maintain what they have and avoid ending up lonely or alone anyway?

Because if you don’t have to work to get into it, how do you appreciate being in one? (relationship)

Fact is, if you EXPECT action and that’s the culture? You become entitled, useless even, it’s inevitable. And if success for you is entitled because of your sex, you WILL NOT appreciate what you have with anyone. Whether it be with a man or woman.

Which is why many bi-women learn really quick, when they go on dates with women where both of them likely expect SOMEONE to pay but since there’s no man there? Uh oh, no XY-slave to carry my weight, I guess I have to be an adult and pay for my own meal like a big girl.

Kinda like how you should be doing on any date? (And those of you who do? Well, I’m not thanking you for it because I’m not praising you for doing what men do anyway: Being an adult. But good on you for not listening when society tells you it’s okay to be a parasite because you’re a woman.)

Women learn true equality when a man isn’t there to be expected to do everything because he’s “the man” but all the entitlements he expects because you’re “the woman”, that doesn’t apply to you though. He’s not guaranteed to your body, your time etcetc., but you’re entitled to free shit. Even his life protecting you. And what are you giving back to deserve any of that?

This is why women aren’t the enemy. Corrosive culture is the issue, Women/Men/ WOMEN specifically are either built or corrupted by the culture. It takes a village.

And when women are told 24/7 they do nothing wrong, how are they going to grow up, or evolve, or do better as people when they think they come out the womb perfect?

Those are the arguments articles like to AVOID just to say men being lonely is an “epidemic” to yet again make it seem like males are behind in some way & women are A-Ok or men are the problem in some way, YET again.

It’s language like that that causes discord, which is the agenda.

A society where men & women are united. Is a society that’s much MUCH harder to

Lie to, manipulate and, control.

Thus a society united, is dangerous to people who would sabotage it on purpose. (Like allowing illegal aliens to invade a country and then make your citizen pay for the TP that wipes the shit off their ass with credit cards.)

Orchestrated chaos, intentional chaos. To either distract or destabilize or both.

Maintain disconnect, give women more incentive to be promiscuous, destroy men’s pride, keep em separate. Keep the lie going & Control masses through confusion.

Wake up. Always look under the epidermal layer of what you’re being fed by media outlets.

And if you’re too plugged into your life (because who wants to sweat bullets 24/7 over conspiracy, and underlying truths that the society that raised us is a fucking cesspool, like we didn’t already know that but it’s WORSE than we thought. I PERSONALLY don’t want to spend every waking day, thinking about it, I got shit to do and personally like enjoying stuff. But-)

Find time to plug into what’s going on around you, especially if you have babies. Because (While I have my strong beliefs about bringing kids into this degenerating world. But when they’re here, they’re here, it’s done- ) the world you leave behind when you pass on, is a worse one they have to inherit.

So if we’re being sabotaged now? Imagine the hell your children are going to have to deal with. Which plays into the dropping birthrates, because if you don’t have kids because the world is going to hell, the birthrates cause problems anyway because we need people.

It’s a lose-lose, but you’re the only one, you’re not taking an innocent to hell with you. And if you have one already? Well, put money away now, make sure you have something you can pass onto them besides good intentions- If you haven’t already, and you keep your eyes on what they’re watching & consuming from culture.

Cause that’s where the seeds of corruption start, the eyes, the window to the soul. Corrupt the children, you corrupt the future.

Take the minds of the children? Control the future.

Fact is, parenthood is the solution to the majority of male /female relation issues.

Just train your little girls & boys, everyone (raises) their children, people don’t TRAIN their children anymore. Which is why men/specifically women don’t & are not expected to exercise discipline or restraint. (Hedonism culture anyone?) We’re raising girls to remain girls forever.

But nobody is going to tell you any of that.

Why? Because a solution is not profitable. Peace is boring, birthrates going up and people being happy is not convenient to some other parties.

Soon, what I’m telling you here will be considered slander, or hate speech. Truth & Fact will become bigotry, a crime. Accounts will be erased, to erase the truth.

YouTube is spearheading that agenda right now by shadow-banning people they don’t deem “sponsor friendly” so what do you think is going to happen when they don’t deem certain voices “Public-Appropriate”.

It’s coming. It starts with an “S”, and ends with an “-ism”. I’ll let you put two and two together. The individual sacrificed for the good of whole.

Thus,

The traditional family unit has been trivialized, by design. It’s just something you do because you can, nobody takes it seriously anymore.

Many People don’t treat sex, themselves, or each other with any respect. So marriage and children is just prolonged recreation at this point until you just drop it like a hobby, children included, I know many people that treat raising their kids like a part-time job.

It pays more to say women are leaving men behind, XY Chromosome is a defect, Women need men to step up, Male loneliness epidemic, etc etc etc. Women are never faulty in any way, never struggling.

I saw an article from maybe 2012 that said “Women are becoming more unhappy” and you know what? Someone made sure to dispel that fact by saying (paraphrasing) it’s a “myth” because blabla “Education” bla bla bla “Sexual liberation” bla bla “Freedom” bla bla.

But men being lonely? OH That’s a definite fact!!! Nobody is going to challenge that! Because women being unhappy without men is an impossibility, we need women to keep thinking they’re superheroes but Men? Yeah, they’re hopeless without a Missus to tell him how to twist a doorknob. Hence the stupid dad trope, a very very VERRRRY early misandrist propaganda piece from before the century turned.

Very parallel to the dumb blonde trope, but much more mean spirited because some of these dads don’t even know how to raise their kids because they’re like children themselves that the wife has to clean up after, and she deserves better.

That’s the accepted propaganda. Keep men beaten like dogs until they start liking it, craving it, accepting it as the natural- UNNATURAL order, and it starts with language like:

“Epidemic”, Why? Well to make it seem inevitable of course: Which is the point, to make men feel like they have zero control over it, so might as well surrender to it. Even though the solution lies with men and women.

But the issue is, that implies women aren’t perfect, if the solution requires women to leave their comfort zone or god forbid “do better”.

Constant agitation toward men.

Then Men get pissed, or walk away, or being angry (disproportionately for many, some cats are just looking for a reason to hate women and blame women for why they choose to never leave the damn house, improve their personality, or at least say “Morning” to a lady in passing), etc. and so birthrates drop.

(Talking to you America. Your births have been dropping since the 70s, and the 70s specifically, because that was back when girls were raised to be women and not grownass children. And men weren’t whipped 24/7 by their own homeland, no hyper-advanced video game culture coddling boys to replace reality, replace women with artificial abominations, effigy’s of women in Anime actually convincing some males that infantile dumbasses that want to be slaves is more appealing than real women-

Or Stuff like “macrophilia” didn’t exist as much on mass back then, why? Because men were happy & involved with women for the most part. And when men are getting positive female attention on a healthy basis, they won’t be trying to replace women with a negative projection of women. Some pathetic, deranged feverdream fantasy about female induced macro-genocide. OR anything resembling abuse, hatred, humiliation, infantilization and inferiority compared to women. Something relating to evil, which Women are not. Or a woman being your handler, even if she’s nice about it, the point is, she’s bigger than you, she’s in charge, you obey. Obey Government, like you do your little goddess in your head.

But that’s how they translate it, and share it with the world, like they’re compelled to do it. It’s fucking sad. You have mothers that hopefully loved you, and that’s how you see women? As destroyers? Galleries and Galleries and videos of the same simulation of horror and misery)

And all of it, all of that poison in their heads?(Men AND Women too, women are macrophiles too) Is100% Culturally induced, because that’s the brainwashing they’ve come to accept, and crave. Social-Conditioning.

Current Gen- Society broke a lot of people, not all, but too many. Too damn many, some of em are giving macrophilia exposure on youtube, just women boasting the fact that they abuse men’s insecurities for money, all for attention. Or producing more normalized genocide horror and displaying it like a playful fucking joke. It pisses me off you can get warning or strikes for having a hot take on YouTube but a mf can post a child flattening a city underfoot and that’s 100% okay, laughable.

But you know what these people are not talking about with this giantess shit? The psychology, and how the origin of macrophilia rarely correlates to anything resembling good parenting or a good, healthy, productive experience for a child. But if you need to “surrender” control to women or domineered to the point of planetary oblivion to feel safe or right, something went wrong. Badly.

And nobody/ rarely anyone is going to say it, because culture tells you if it feels good, “Just DO IT” remember that slogan from 2013–2016? Just do it. Hedonism propaganda. Cultivating ego-centrism, people question nothing and just indulge in anything, even insanity.

The epidermal (surface level) meaning is (don't hold yourself back, follow your dreams) but that's not what it's saying verbatim is it?. It's telling you: Question nothing, and just act on it.

You read what you read, and then internalize the meaning in behavior. It's called subliminal messaging.

Like if you're not hungry but you see an add about food, and now you're hungry. Same thing.

There's double meanings to this stuff. And it's no accident that it dropped during 2015 and what happened that year but I rarely see it nowadays after what they sought to normalize has been normalized.

Which is sad, because marriage is a right, but that movement was USED to spearhead something else entirely. That we didn't get, until now, where our dropping birthrates are becoming hard to ignore.

It’s all connected to destabilization. And it starts with the family and leads to compromising children.

So, Antagonizing the protector class of your species, will hurt only your species. Like it is right now.

Making women believe they deserve something for nothing will only hurt women. Like it is right now, and will continue to do so.

It’s lie after lie after lie, you’re being played. The people. Wherever you are, because this is all going to converge into a One singular convergence of Government. You already know what I’m talking about…

(Listen, don’t listen, I don’t need you to. But just keep it back of your head, that’s enough.)

And have been played for the past 25, going on 30 years.

And it starts with excitable language. “Epidemic”, lies. It certainly is not as one-sided as they want you to think.

So don’t wonder why birthrates are dropping, do not be confused or wonder why. Because the “why”? Well you’ve been living it your entire life:

It’s called culture, society.

When your village sets you up for failure, you will fail. Birthrates, recession, are simply one of many failures to come.

And do NOT wonder why, it’s on purpose.

If you have little ones already. You can train them to be disciplined, skilled, have integrity. But the world will still try it’s hardest to undo all of that, and it will burn to the ground around those kids as the generations pass. War is coming, and there’s no attempt to prevent it.

You’re being sabotaged.

The epidemic isn’t male or female loneliness, it’s western, privileged culture normalizing dysfunction, then blames men when cultural dysfunction from women & men results in more dysfunction for women & men.

When the solution is women and men, but the only party we address for improvement or blame is men.

Men aren’t perfect, Women aren’t the problem. But they’re both key to the solution, we have the control to fix at least a portion of the problem.

And it benefits some people, to keep you believing you have zero control to change anything and keep blaming each other for an issue you can both fix, but only together.

But the agenda, the entire point of said propaganda is to keep you fighting, arguing, questioning , distracted, scorned, and disconnected so that solution never comes to pass.

That’s the punchline.

So… making a project with dogs as protagonists, and I was focusing heavily on how their culture would really revolve around family and realized there aren’t enough words in the English language for some family related stuff, so I made or found some!

Kin, Kith, Kinth, & Kib

Kin is your blood family, the family you’re born into, and to some, that bond is stronger than any other one can forge, as you can never truly separate yourself from your kin, but to others, kith is your true family, blood being an arbitrary bond to them. Kith is the family you gain through friendship, who you choose to spend time with and associate yourself with. Both can be referred to together as your kinth, whoever you pledge loyalty to and would fight alongside no matter what. A dog’s human family gets a unique word: kib. Dogs all see kib differently (they can’t even decide if they’re chosen or found) and not everyone has kib, so it’s hard to get a good consensus on them.

Examples of use for each in conversation:

“He is my brother.” “Kin or kith?”

“Everyone is kinth.” (This saying means to love and respect everyone equally, as if they are all your family)

Types of Love

There are many different types of love: family love, or storge; romantic love, or romo; platonic love, or plato; self love, or amare; obsessive love, or mania; unconditional love, or pragma; and playful love, or ludu. There’s also love for one’s kib, known as kiboe, which will also be important. Less importantly, there’s lust, which likely won’t be mentioned again since the target audience for this would probably be minors + they’re dogs so I’m not super comfortable with that aside from it just existing lol. Alternate to love, there is, of course, hate.

Common combinations of these loves:

Storge and pragma, storgma (unconditional love tied by bond of birth. No matter what happens, you and your kin are stuck together, for better or for worse—might as well make the best of it)

Romo and mania, romia (often related to infatuation and/or codependency, think Romeo and Juliet—I mean, they literally died for each other after knowing each other for less than a week)

Romo and ludu, rudu (playful, non-committed romantic love. Basically a puppy crush)

Plato and pragma, plagma (best friends forever basically, if you do everything together and are inseparable, this is the correct word for that)

Romo and pragma, romga (intimate and dedicated love, where a dog and their partner are bonded til death do them part)

Storge Terms

The love of a parent towards their pup is known as storgepup, whereas the love of a pup towards their parent is known as storgepar, and love between siblings is storgesib. These terms aren’t gendered because in this story there aren’t really gender roles, just biological sex. I thought about terms for extended family members but decided against it—love for them is just “storge” or if one values them even more, a grandparent or parsib (gender neutral uncle/aunt) could be “storgepar”, a cousin could be “storgesib”, and a sibpup (gender neutral niece/nephew) or grandpup could be “storgepup”.

Terms of Bereavement

Someone who’s lost a parent is called an orphan and a partner a widow, but what about someone who’s lost a pup, a friend, or a sibling? Well, someone who’s lost a pup is called a vilomah, which is Sanskrit for “against the natural order of things”, someone who’s lost a friend is called a fuguet (derived from the term fugue, a dissociative and sometimes hysterical state usually following trauma in which someone wanders, losing their identity), and someone who’s lost a sibling is called a twopaw (referring to how a sibling acts as a dog’s other set of paws in life).

Ascendant/Descendant Axis

In the natal chart, there is an intersection of the Ascendant (Asc)- Descendant (Dsc). These are located in the 1st house and the 7th House. Also known as one of the two “angles” of the chart. They are both Cardinal by nature.

Your ascendant is the mask your wear to the world. Your “face”, essentially. It’s how you project yourself and even how you appear physically/your aesthetic. Like a mirror to the Ascendant, the Descendant reveals the qualities we would like to reflect and project into others. It describes how we feel attracted to other people as well as the traits we also have, but which need to be developed within the self or through relationships. Aries Ascendant /Libra Descendant

1. its victim blaming of hades to tell minthe its HER fault she "couldnt get over him". like? you lied to her! youre the one who blurred the lines to date her! you were just as toxic to her if not more so by controlling where she lives and her job, all while never defending her to your cruel family! you had all the power over her while she had nothing! you dumped her for a 19 year old and dont care she crippled minthe! i wont excuse minthe's actions, but hades is ultimately the worse of the two IMO

2. you know why fans claimed "Minthe should've reacted better"? since the first episode Rachel has been drilling into their heads Minthe is an irredeemable monster, and her not bending over backwards to H/P means she deserves the absolute worst. Minthe reacting how anyone logically would doesn't matter when LO is designed to coddle H/P, and anyone against them must suffer for it, even if the victim to H/P's actions. they never wanted her to be "redeemed", they want her head on a silver platter.

3. i know this is not what she intended bc the only characterization rachel has of hxp is "the best over everything" but uh, does she know having hades control all the petroleum and gasses and whatever else is actively destroying the planet, right? like hes helping the very thing persephone draws her power from and what she's connected to be destroyed to appease hes need for wealth and power. its kinda gross hes being romanticized while he commits horrible acts like this for his bank account.

4. its not impossible to go opposite in their original myth personalities and still have it work. like in hades game, sisyphus is one of the most likable characters, achilles is gentle and kind, ares is calm and rational, etc, but it makes sense within the context of the story. LO in comparison goes "all these loving mothers are evil because i said so! this beloved god is now evil because i said so! minthe is evil because i said so!" and that's about it in terms of logic to these wild changes.

5. I can kinda get behind anon's theory about the flower nymphs looking like P to help her be undetected, the problem is there are also unrelated women in comic who are bright pink and look just like her, with hades even confusing them for her! if i had to bet the only reason they look like that is because rachel just wanted daphne to look like her to hammer home apollo is "obsessed" with P and to fake them as her "real family" over demeter. also just laziness in designing characters in general.

6. its weird hades and persephone are well aware what they're doing is bad even openly admitting it and yet the narrative is so hellbent on excusing their bad actions?? like hades being the major toxic factor in his relationship to minthe, persephone killing people, or hades wanting to bone an eternal 19 year old? like rachel you know thats not how character growth works, right? you cant show they have horrible flaws and leave them to never grow and learn from it, that's not good writing at all.

7. what i also dont get is the hierarchy makes no sense? like zeus is framed as the top god, but that would mean hades cant be the most important man ever so rachel also made him equal rank with zeus (and i guess poseidon too) so?? how does zeus have all that power over them then if theyre all equal? is it because zeus swallowed metis? also how are the fertility goddess so powerful and rare yet so easily taken down? how are they overpowered and super weak at the same time? i just dont get it.

8. Re reading chapter 144 and other anon is right we do see the pomegranate pin on Hades outfit (so Hades gifts it to her)

But also some things to note

During the makeout session persy begins to disappear in butterfly form and hades is like "no don't leave!" And he grabs her, preventing her from leaving. Which is..kinda Ick considering they were on their way to having (public) sex and he doesn't want her to leave which seems like he's not really respecting her boundaries? (because if she does he'll "be lonely")

The pomegranate pin is Hades' to begin with so technically one of Persephones symbols is not hers (yes I know in the original myth she ate it in the underworld / was forced to eat it but still its supposed to be her symbol)

Hades notes that he "doesn't want to overstep his boundaries as host" because Persephone is a guest (too late for that)

Persephones main concern (after what a week or 2?) after being raped is when Hades wants to stop her reaction is "dont you want me anymore?"

10. im not even against rushed relationships, ive known actual couples who met and were married all within the same year and it worked out great, the difference though is these were people who had their own lives and previous relationships. the issue with LO is RS designed it so Persephone can NEVER have relationships or a life outside of Hades, and if they did get married offscreen, it's framing their marriage in a toxic and unbalanced light. That's not a romance, it's a disaster waiting to happen.

11. i feel like there's a difference between drawing an interesting hooked/aquiline nose versus whatever the hell RS puts on Hades' face. It honestly looks like he's in between morphing into a bird half the time since it just looks like a beak over an actual facial feature.

SO I wanna elaborate a bit more on what I said on @disaster-j‘s post in regards to gramblack and because ppl misusing media theory terms on fandom spaces is driving me to chaotic frustrations.

So fans were saying that GramBlack was queer baiting after GramEugene became...whatever the fuck they are but we’ll go with canon to be kind. People were saying GramBlack isn’t queer baiting in response to fans being - fucking justifiably - upset that the show took a hard u-turn in a pass lane.

(Like guess I’m a bitch, but personally I don’t like a canonically same-sex couple from the source material being used a a red herring for a flaccid het love triangle where the female char in question becomes reduced to a love interest. Like fuck, at least make her an active part and participant of the gang. But whatever hand me my bitch badge.)

But these folks are right, GramBlack wasn’t queer baiting - it was queer erasure as GramBlack are a canonical couple in said source material the show is adapted from. And we’ll get to adaptions in a second.

Queer Baiting - The term queerbaiting refers to the practice of implying non-heterosexual relationships or attraction (in a TV show, for example) to engage or attract an LGBTQ audience or otherwise generate interest without ever actually depicting such relationships or sexual interactions. [1]

Queer Erasure - LGBT erasure refers to the tendency to remove lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, asexual and queer groups or people intentionally or unintentionally from record, or to dismiss or downplay their significance. [2]

The reason I’m being pedantic about this is because these are real terms used in media theory and media studies - media including television, film, literature, and pop culture. These terms refer to very specific things in the study of media, and it’s important to use them correctly instead of in reactionary ways.

Vagueness causes confusion, which causes arguments - especially within fandom spaces. Which prefer reactionary movements rather than reactive and self-reflective behaviors.

Now, let’s talk adaptions.

Adaptions aren’t meant to be 1:1 no matter how many cranky ass fans on twitter scream about them. Sometimes superpowers change - Ms Marvel (live action) - sometimes a characters origins - Shang-Chi (film), Oliver Queen (CW’s Arrow).

That said, not all changes are created equally so to speak. Some changes in adaptions are made for the better, some for the worse, some for the outright hurtful (intentionally or otherwise).

Wanda Maximoff is a good example, her not being a mutant? Fine, an unfortunate but unavoidable change since Marvel and Disney didn’t - at the time of her introduction - own the rights to her mutant origins. In entertainment, everything - and I mean EVERYTHING - comes down to rights. Her not being Roma anymore? Hurtful. There’s a dearth of Roma characters that aren’t stereotypes and Wanda being a mutant and her being Roma didn’t need to be mutually exclusive. It’s an adaption lost.

Lots of things change in adaptions, I mention superheroes as a sub-genre b/c lots of things change in adaption from comics to animation or live action. Some changes are good, some are even amazing - Harley Quinn was a change added to Batman the Animated Series and look how far she’s come now as a chaotic bisexual murderous anti-hero icon. Some are bad - every single change in Arrow is a good example of bad adaptive changes - and some are hurtful.

Anytime source material has characters from marginalized backgrounds that get erased in the adaption - that hurts.

It occurs to me that one relatively sympathetic aspect of these people might be that, their founding population having been abducted as small children and raised by an inhuman monster, they might lack a lot of the stupid prejudices that regular humans in a low-tech setting are likely to have if real history is any guide.

Think about what’s going to happen with that first generation. It sounds to me like the dragon abducts them when they’re very young, the better to brainwash them. The dragon is probably both ignorant of and uninterested in a lot of human culture, it just wants to raise up some dragon-worshipping brainwashed thralls. Which is probably going to be bad in a lot of ways, but it also means the transmission chains of a lot of stupid prejudices get broken. There’s no-one around to tell those kids that darker-skinned people are inferior. There’s no-one around to stigmatize left-handedness and force the left-handed ones to hide being left-handed. There’s no-one around to socialize them into complicated and rigid gender roles and tell them men should be in charge. There’s no-one around to tell them they shouldn’t share a washing bowl with a Cagot. There’s no-one around to tell them some people are Untouchables and karmically deserving of low status and suffering and you should take a ritual bath if one of them touches you. The dragon probably doesn’t even know about half that stuff and doesn’t care about most of the other half. The dragon might actually actively discourage a lot of prejudices like this if they do show up, because they’d interfere with its human stock being efficient thralls (“You’re telling me you want to reduce the military effectiveness and productivity of my dragon cult because you don’t want to share tools with people who have a particular surname? Yeah, no, we’re not doing that; any tool that is not personal property belongs to me and will be used by any of my thralls who is doing work that requires it”).

What happens when these kids reach puberty? The dragon probably wants its dragon cult making babies, so it’s probably going to tell them how baby-making works and make it clear it expects them to make some new thralls for it sooner or later, but as long as the thralls are making approximately the right number of babies and aren’t killing each other it probably won’t care much about the details. So... These people are going to start experiencing attraction to each other and sometimes falling in love with each other, and... Some of them are going to fall in love with people of the same sex, and there’s no-one around to tell them homosexuality is wrong. Some of them are going to fall in love with more than one person, and there’s no-one around to tell them they aren’t allowed to have multiple partners, and there’s no-one around to tell them that people who already have a partner are “taken” and off-limits, and there’s no-one around to tell them that if you’re a man another man having sex with your female partner is a huge deadly insult to your honor. The original write-up talks about dragons selectively breeding their human thralls, so there might be significant reproductive control and coercion happening, but it’s probably pretty orthogonal to the sort that happens in patriarchal societies.

This is simplifying in ways that might paint an over-optimistic picture. Even small children may have picked up some prejudices from the societies they spent their first years in. And some of that stuff might get reinvented. Children often detect and react with hostility to difference even without much or any prompting from adults, and I suspect some prejudices of this sort are ultimately rooted in that sort of reflexive xenophobia. And I think at least a rough “men do more of the fighting and heavy labor, women do more of the child-care and less strength-intensive work” division of labor is probably going to emerge, because it’s a natural and logical reaction to physical sex differences in a low-tech context. Though on that note, I can think of a few factors that might work to keep dragon cults more gender-equal than regular human societies:

Dragons likely won’t want their cults getting too numerous. A numerous cult would be harder to control and more likely to develop power centers independent of the dragon. Dragon cults would also be more secure against external threats than other human groups of their size, because they’ve got a giant fire-breathing monster on their side, so they wouldn’t have as much pressure to make sure they’ve got lots of fighters to defend their land (though the dragon would likely be a “tall poppy,” it’s likely that lots of people will want to kill it to stop its depredations and plunder its hoard and have the glory of defeating it, so that’ll partly cancel that out). Put this together, dragon cults might be at least a little less pro-natalist than their regular human neighbors. I mean, they’ll probably still have big families by modern standards because of how many people die young in low-tech societies, they’ll probably still need to have 3-5 children per couple just for replacement rate, but this might make at least a little difference. And high birth rates, large families, and pro-natalism are an important load-bearing pillar of strong gender roles; it’s not an accident that we started treating women a lot better after we invented or popularized vaccination, antibiotics, indoor plumbing, and birth control pills (the first three things made high birth rates unnecessary and even undesirable, the last thing made low birth rates easier to maintain). Compared to other human women, dragon cult women might have more time and energy to devote to things that aren’t making and raising babies.

I think dragon cults are also likely to be socially hierarchical but economically communalistic, with little private property and relatively high social mobility. From the original write-up it sounds like dragons want totalitarian control over their cults, so they won’t want their cults to have power centers independent of the dragon. Dynastic families and sizeable accumulations of private property are power centers independent of the dragon, so the dragon will discourage their formation. In low-tech male privilege societies powerful families and stable inherited property are major bulwarks of patriarchy; they make it important who your father is, and they make it important to avoid family instability that may result in division of the property or otherwise endanger the family’s claim to the property. If patrilineal descent chains don’t matter much, women are likely to have more sexual freedom and by knock-on effects of that more freedom in general and are under less pressure to marry early and produce lots of potential heirs for their husbands.

Finally, the write-up mentioned dragons selectively breeding their human thralls for size and strength, and maybe implied also selectively breeding them for precocious physical maturity. If they’re doing that, dragons might also selectively breed their thralls for reduced sexual dimorphism. From the dragon’s point of view, why wouldn’t you want to double your pool of potential strong fighters? So after two or twenty centuries of selective breeding dragon cult women might have size and upper body strength a lot closer to males. Dragon cults would probably still have some kind of “men do more of the fighting and women do more of the work compatible with having a baby or child in close proximity” gendered division of labor, but reducing sexual dimorphism would tend to weaken gendered divisions of labor and hence gender roles in general.

I mean, we’re talking about a creepy high-control cult here. And “nobody was there to tell them...” would definitely have potential dark sides, like “nobody was there to tell them rape and incest are wrong” and “nobody was there to tell them that an adult shouldn’t casually slap around or beat up a child when they’re angry at them.” They’d probably develop some taboos on that sort of stuff just to keep their society somewhat functional, and the dragon would probably give them rules against the aspects of that sort of behavior that might lower their efficiency as thralls or endanger the viability of the dragon cult, but “basically functional levels of rape, incest, and casual physical abuse of children” might look pretty horrifying (though given what a lot of actual historical societies looked like I’m not sure they’d really be worse on the rape and casually beating up their children fronts than their non-dragon cult neighbors). So this isn’t going to be any kind of utopia. If dragon cultists showed up in a story they’d probably be bad guys. But, like:

“And because they serve dragons, they sometimes get the good stuff. Picture a 15- year-old kid with the physique of Conan, wearing the golden armor of ancient kings and armed with magic spears. The kid is also illiterate, covered in fleas, and thinks that humans were created by dragons.”

I suggest that this kid might be a girl, who has a girlfriend and a boyfriend, in a world where a female person being a warrior and interacting on a footing of easy familiarity and equality with rough violent men and having multiple partners is very much not a regular thing in most human societies. And while from one point of view this person is a brainwashed slave of a giant fire-breathing mammal-like reptile, she can look forward to having a lot more personal freedom than most non-dragon cult women (e.g. the 15 year old farmer’s daughter whose father and older brother she just eviscerated). Would fit into: “And its not hard fascism either. Their barbarian tribes don't chafe at the collar. They've believe in their dragon. And when you stand in front of a dragon, you can see why.” If that girl has some idea of how much less freedom and power she’d probably have if she’d been born into one of the surrounding more normal human societies, that knowledge surely cements her loyalty to her dragon. It’d make the whole thing more insidious in a way.

Aside: the one thing that kind of bugged me about the Goblin Punch post is where it says dragon cultists “never build cities or roofs.” So what do they do when it rains, or is freezing cold, or burning hot? I’m interpreting this as they live in tent-like structures and don’t build permanent houses with thick walls, cause otherwise that bit is just grimderp.

I’m so unbelievably weak against characters who make terrible choices because they’re hurting and upset. I love the subtler resentful decisions that quietly build up ill will, and I love the big dramatic choices that end with everyone going down in flames. But more than anything, I love love love hurting myself with the emotional flavor of a character struggling with the tension of simultaneously realizing that people hate/mistrust them (or how much people hate/mistrust them, or which people hate/mistrust them), while also realizing that those people just have... no idea where they’re coming from.

I was thinking about this first because of Mu Qing, who is honestly a very low-key version of this scenario (and it’s also quieter since he’s not a lead character and rarely takes the spotlight himself). But the first big tgcf flashback honestly made my heart ache, seeing him trying to walk a line between maintaining his own independence/pride and not belonging to someone he wants to be peers with, but when he tries to be tactful, people decide he’s being shady. He was picking cherries, to bring a treat to his poor mother (and the poor children around his home), but then got accused of stealing, and then didn’t want to say that it was because his only remaining parent was living in poverty. And it continues through the present day! He knocks out Feng Xin so he can save him from a burning city, because Feng Xin refuses to leave, and people are like ‘>:OOO MU QING ATTACKED FENG XIN??’ In some ways, this character hurts me more than the others, because he rarely does anything wrong, he has a bad attitude, but his most significant “missteps” tend to be like ‘you could have been a little more kind, tbh.’

But also too, I’ve been working my way through the svsss extras again, and... Shen Jiu. God, Shen Jiu. This character is agonizing, and I love him so much. He makes terrible choices! He does terrible things! He tries to set up an actual literal child to die horribly, because he resents that this child had a parent who loved him, and that he found his way to Cang Qiong young enough to reach his full potential! It’s absolutely unforgivable! But nobody except Yue Qingyuan has any clue how much Shen Jiu has been through and how to possibly help him grow or heal or how to support him into better decision making. And Shen Jiu is so hurt by the way Yue Qingyuan left him that he refuses to let Yue Qingyuan help him now. Like! This child was a slave, begging for food on the streets, then was sold to a rich boy who abused him in sexually-flavored ways and planned to marry him to his sister so he could keep him forever, and then his “rescuer” was a scumbag adult who taught him to steal and murder.

And while Shen Jiu was suffering, he thinks Yue Qingyuan, who came from the same beginning and who promised to come back for him, was living in careless pampered luxury in a prestigious cultivation sect. Shen Jiu’s own self-evaluations are incredibly harsh, from the moment he’s reunited with Yue Qingyuan. He calls himself terrible, he calls himself a thing, and once it’s clear that he’s going to pay the price for his bad decisions, he tries hard to shove away the one person who cares about him and find some way to protect him. Yue Qingyuan never stopped loving him and defending him, but literally nobody else in the world has any sympathy for him whatsoever. How am I not supposed to be heartbroken? Shang Qinghua sighs over how his readers used to hate on Shen Qingqiu for having no motivations, which, sure, that’s understandable from what’s on the “Proud Immortal Demon Way” pages, but seeing the trauma driving his choices in svsss and seeing his own self-awareness and self-loathing and knowing that one (1) person in-universe has any inkling of his internal world (and that person died trying to help him), I’m! In pain!!!

Plus, in svsss proper, I saw a post in passing once that was something like... ‘readers are hard on luo binghe, because he’s the only mxtx protagonist where we see the worst decisions of his life and aren’t in his head to understand why he’s making those decisions.’ Which I still find fascinating, and think about often. It makes sense to me. And as far as my terrible-decision-making children go, he’s very interesting to me because he doesn’t really deal with the widespread distaste/mistrust that mu qing and shen jiu experience, it’s very much targeted on one person. I live for the parts of svsss where all Luo Binghe has to do is breathe, and Shen Qingqiu flinches and bolts. And Luo Binghe is not acting in kind or well-considered ways, a lot of the time! But he was seventeen, and his beloved teacher had told him that ‘humans can be good or evil, demons can be good or evil,’ but the moment Luo Binghe turned out to be half demon, even though he’d just been fighting desperately trying to protect Shen Qingqiu, that teacher he trusted more than anything immediately turned on him, stabbed him in the chest, and threw him into hell.

That’s agonizing!!!! Even without the aftermath, that’s agonizing to read! And when Luo Binghe comes back, years later, he’s upset, he’s hurt, he’s lonely, he’s still stinging from that betrayal, of course he’s not making good decisions. I follow good blogs, because I haven’t seen any terrible Luo Binghe takes on my dash, but I’m kind of :c that these takes apparently exist. Again, it’s not that I think he makes good decisions, but I can see why he makes bad decisions, and I can see other characters missing that context, and I am rolling in terrible, glorious pain. Luo Binghe shows up secretly in Huan Hua Palace and starts taking it over and generally acts shady as heck? Well, Shizun wouldn’t let him beg for forgiveness when he was a disciple, and he’s afraid to face Shen Qingqiu until he can meet him on a semi-equal footing. Luo Binghe gets angry and spiteful when Shen Qingqiu asks if he’s responsible for the sowers? Yes he does! He’d always, always tried to do right by Shen Qingqiu, and trusted Shen Qingqiu when he said demons could be decent people, but the moment he turned out to be half-demon, Shen Qingqiu immediately started expecting the worst from him at every turn. It hurts! I don’t blame him for acting on that hurt! And I am so endlessly compelled by the way that Shen Qingqiu completely fails to recognize the context for where Binghe is coming from.

And like... I cannot leave out Xue Yang and Jin Guangyao. Xue Yang is fascinating in his own way, because the steps are... a lot more explicit and clear-cut than some of these other characters. Shen Jiu’s downward spiral is very internal and he curls up tight to hide his weak spots even with the person who values him most in the whole world, but Xue Yang very plainly tries to lay out his reasoning for his most important person. His whole world is crumbling by the time things reach that point, and it was probably beyond salvaging, but god! He tries so hard to explain the position the world placed him in, from childhood onward, helpless and vulnerable, and that nobody was going to defend him except himself.

But when Xiao Xingchen doesn’t understand what he’s trying to communicate, when he realizes that the person he values most isn’t willing to hear what he’s trying to say, he starts lashing out again and trying to hurt. It’s the same lesson he learned when he was young, in some ways. ‘If I’m stupid enough to trust you, you’re going to use that to hurt me.’ And then the logical next step, ‘If you’re going to hurt me, all I can do is try to hurt you worse.’ You can see the trauma playing out right there on the page, and it’s agonizing. I can understand some people not enjoying reading things that make them hurt that way, but I have trouble Getting it when people don’t at least find that kind of dynamic compelling as hell. I’ll sometimes avoid media that I know is going to make me sad, but if I’m in the mood to Experience Sadness, I know a dynamic like this is going to grab me by the heart and shake me like a ragdoll.

And... Jin Guangyao. He was on my mind too, partly because I’ve seen a few takes on his motivations lately that honestly kind of baffle me? Like, to each their own, especially since mdzs never takes us inside his head. But I see posts that like... he was bullying Nie Mingjue, or what if Lan Xichen could Tell he was never genuine and mistrusted him on some level, and how to put this. It’s not that I agree with the choices he made, though I really don’t want to play fandom purity police in any way, shape, or form (murder is good, actually), but I understand the choices he made enough that those sort of interpretations that skew towards the cruelty-for-the-sake-of-cruelty territory honestly kind of upset me.

There’s some interesting comparisons to be made with Mu Qing, in some ways. They both grew up poor, without a father, in “shameful” single-parent situations (a sex worker mother vs. a father being executed for being a criminal). They were poor boys with ambition, but no matter how they tried to carry themselves with dignity, those poor beginnings were rubbed in their faces, years after the fact. I think it does make a real difference that Mu Qing’s shame is mostly based in his own history (sweeping floors) while Jin Guangyao’s is more external (son of a whore), and that Jin Guangyao’s also insulted a parent who he loved dearly, and that Mu Qing was seeking the respect outside of famiial structures while Jin Guangyao was desperate to be accepted by his father.

There’s so much of Jin Guangyao’s early life that’s like ‘I’m Just Trying To Live My Life, My Dude,’ and it hurts me to watch. He really didn’t have goals that were all that excessive! If his goals were excessive in some way, it’s only by virtue of how highly ranked his father was, which isn’t his fault. His goal: ‘I want my father to accept me into the family.’ What the world saw: “oh my god, this son of a whore SERIOUSLY wants to be brought into this noble family, lmaooooo.’ There are characters who are more compassionate than that, and a lot of that reaction is down to the nature of the setting, but LORD, man! It’s honestly a pretty restrained goal for a kid to have! Especially when his father totally promised to come back for him someday, and he waited patiently for years before setting out on his own.

And even once he gets kicked down the steps of Koi Tower and dials back his ambitions, he gets so little space to breathe. He’s learning cultivation late, he takes a position as a nobody in a different cultivation sect, he’s just trying to live. But no matter how he rolls with the punches, no matter how he smiles and bears it, he’s being constantly, constantly prodded in that old, painful bruise. I’ve been finally working my way through The Untamed, and it was painful to watch, in Gusu, when he’s trying to present the Nie Sect’s gift to Lan QIren, and people just start focking gossiping about him, right there, perfectly audibly. And when we see him back in Qinghe, he’s perfectly polite and deferential, and that one disciple is still like ‘fuck you, ur mom was a whore.’

He makes bad decisions, but even when he makes good decisions, he can’t win. I don’t get anything from him at all that suggests he had Hugely Lofty Ambitions from a young age, he just wanted some kind of decent life, but almost nobody would cut him a break. Nie Mingjue did cut him a break, and Lan Xichen was gentle and kind to him, and that made such an impact on him. But I also think it made it that much worse, when he made later questionable decisions, and Nie Mingjue refused to let him explain himself. Nie Mingjue’s rigidity breaks my heart in lots of ways, but especially when it comes to Jin Guangyao. I don’t want to make this all about personal attachment, but it’s kind of inescapable in this situation. Nie Mingjue sends him a loud, violent message that if he’s not perfectly morally upright, he’s Done. But by now, Jin Guangyao has years of history of people being cruel to him based on a history he never was able to control. Nie Mingjue protected him, but hes made it clear that protection was... conditional. There could be arguments about how conditional, and what the non-murdery limits would have been, but the murder has been done, and it was already clear that Nie Mingjue never had the power to protect him from everything.

I can’t read Jin Guangyao’s later actions without also reading that fear and insecurity into his decisions. He even tries to say it outright, that he’s afraid of everyone and everything, and Nie Mingjue misses the point. Jin Guangyao hurts me a lottle, because he suffers both in terms of the general public’s judgment of him, but also in the judgment of someone he cared deeply about. I can see the reasoning and trauma, but so many other people in the story can’t. Jin Guangyao gets pushed to the edge by how his father holds him at arm’s length from the family, the atrocities he tells Jin Guangyao to commit on his behalf (and then maybe I’ll treat you like my actual son, maybe), but when he tries to express that, Nie Mingjue is like ‘can’t you just endure more, though??’ He builds a temple with a statue with the face of his dead beloved mother, and the public is like ‘omg, he made that statue with his OWN FACE, can you believe it??’

In some ways, the way Lan Xichen determinedly loves and trusts him makes it all hurt even worse. I absolutely believe Jin Guangyao when he says that he never once wanted to act against Lan Xichen. So many of the terrible decisions Jin Guangyao makes tie so directly to him seeking either safety or security. But he works hard in social gatherings to keep the peace and people think he’s two-faced. He endures years of mistreatment before hitting back and people judge him for hitting back at all and say that well, what else could we have respected from someone with that background. Nie Mingjue threatens to kill him multiple times, and he was a very straightforward, honest man, of course Jin Guangyao was frightened of him and decided it was safer to see him dead. I live for the pain of seeing a character I love make decisions I strongly disagree with, understanding why they’re making those decisions, and seeing other characters not understand, and simply hate them for the decisions.

This isn’t exactly new, this is why I’ll never be able to shake my love for Starscream, even if his quality of motivation... varies by continuity. And Pharma and Prowl are two of my favorite characters in all of idw1 for exactly this reason. I’ve got at least three fics brushing up against Pharma’s resentment over ‘yes, i got ordered to run a hospital on a garbage planet I was sharing the most violent, sadistic decepticons in existence, I SURE WONDER WHY I WAS DRIVEN TO THIS DESPERATE POINT, BUT THE LOVE OF MY LIFE THINKS I’M JUST A TERRIBLE PERSON, SO I GUESS THAT’S THAT.’

And in the murderbot books, I genuinely get reduced to tears when murderbot has to deal with people compassionately interpreting its behavior instead of giving it no credit, the way its used to. I find the raksura books intensely, intensely satisfying in how Moon struggles to fit into a highly social, close-knit society after growing up so traumatized and alone, and how his colony gradually adapts to him and gets used to his quirks, instead of driving him out, the way he’s experienced so many times. No real conclusion here, I was just spacing out during a work training call, and got overtaken by how much I love characters who experience this particular flavor of emotional isolation.

Pairing: Drake Walker x MC (Riley Liu)

Summary: A few snapshots of times that things didn’t exactly go smoothly in the bedroom

Author’s Note: Hope everyone had a happy Valentine’s day! This is a little collection I have wanted to write for a long time and in fact told @burnsoslow I was contemplating months ago. It probably doesn’t surprise anyone who has read It Couldn’t Wait Another Moment that I adore sexy moments that aren’t at all magical, but instead filled with humor and interruptions and real-world struggles. So this is a series of several moments in Drake and Riley’s life after the end of ICWAM where intimate moments didn’t exactly go as they hoped. The timeline isn’t very important, and nothing here really requires any knowledge of that universe. Aside from a few details, this could basically be canon-compliant. So, hopefully a few of you also enjoy the blending of the sexy with the humorous. Content warning for minor injury/blood (snippet 2) and drunk sex (snippet 4).

“Bertrand’s office? Really?”

Riley just gave him a little smirk over her shoulder as she nudged the door open with her hip. “Yes, really. Unless you are too much of a coward.”

Drake rolled his eyes, following her into the room, his hand tracing along the skin of her back, bared by her turquoise jumpsuit. “It’s not that, Liu. But I will point out that our room is just upstairs.”

She spun around at that, pressing her chest against his. His eyes flicked down, appreciating the very plunging neckline of her outfit for not the first time that night, before jumping back to her face. Her eyes were bright and sparkling, her cheeks glowing. The look she was giving him told him he was in trouble. She knew he was fucking powerless to say ‘no’ to her.

“It’s too early in the night to leave your sister’s birthday party. And going to our bedroom would definitely be leaving the party.”

“And this isn’t?”

Riley shook her head as she reached her arm out, shoving the door closed behind him. “Nope, this is just a little tour of the estate.”

“Uh huh. Sure.”

“What? His office is part of the public wing. And it’s just down the hall from the dining room.” She widened her eyes in mock innocence as she slid her hands across his shoulders and down his sports coat to his belt, hooking her fingers around it as she started walking backward toward the desk, tugging him with her. “I just was curious and wanted to explore.”

“Explore? Suddenly developed an interest in stuffy home offices?”

She laughed at that before spinning them around so that Drake found himself leaning against the front of Bertrand’s desk. “Oh, they’re one of my greatest passions.”

“That why you’re so eager to check this one out again?” he asked as his hands settled on her hips, his thumbs tracing small circles.

Riley smirked, dragging her hands up to his neck, tugging his head down until their foreheads were pressed against one another. “Are you telling me you were… satisfied-” she kissed him lightly, barely moving her lips against his before placing her mouth against his ear “-with how things ended last time we were here?”

Drake swallowed roughly. It was shit like that which made her impossible to say no to. Even though he knew that hooking up in Bertrand’s office wasn’t a great plan. But all sorts of memories of that damn first kiss, how it had felt to hold her, to hear her say she wanted him, came rushing back with her little teasing statement, combining with the smell of her peach body spray and the feel of her breath against his ear, filling his mind entirely with her - both past and present.

Their next kiss was aggressive. Possessive. Consuming. His fingers threaded through her hair, pulling out a few damn pins in the process which he threw on the desk as Riley worked her lips down his throat, her fingers undoing his belt and the button and zipper on his jeans. He let out a groan as she tugged down his boxers and slipped her hand around him, slamming his eyes shut and dropping his head forward, his nose buried in her thick hair. But after a few seconds, the scent of her shampoo disappeared.

Drake dragged his eyes open, taking in Riley sinking to her knees, drawing a much more pathetic, desperate sounding noise from his throat. She smiled smugly at that, raising an eyebrow before she said, “Looks like someone is eager to finish what we started last year.”

He couldn’t argue with that. Couldn’t even tease her back really. He was powerless to do anything but let his head fall back and grip the edge of the desk tightly, barely holding on as her lips slid around him, her tongue working along the underside as she bobbed her head, taking him further into her mouth.

“Shit, Riley,” he hissed out as he felt himself brushing against the back of her throat. It was too much. She was too much. He felt his pleasure starting to build, coiling in his gut, when a quiet but surprised sounding gasp caught his attention.

“Savannah?” he choked out as he saw his sister staring at him from the doorway, her eyes wide in horror, her hand pressed to her lips. “What are you doing here?” he asked as he slid a hand under Riley’s arm, hauling her to her feet as quickly as he could. She moved to spin around, but he held her firmly in front of him. The last thing he needed was to give his sister more of an embarrassing show.

“I… well I was just-” Savannah sputtered her cheeks growing pinker by the second. Before she could stammer out any sort of answer, Bertrand’s voice echoed from the hallway, his words growing louder by the second.

“My dear, I don’t think anyone saw us, but we should probably-” He appeared behind Savannah in the doorway, his hands sliding around her waist before he caught sight of Drake and Riley, his words cutting off abruptly as he jumped back slightly. “Riley, Drake. We were just… we uh… well, we needed to… review some paperwork,” he said. Savannah closed her eyes and physically winced, her cheeks flushing bright red with Bertrand’s excuse. “What brings you both to my office?” he finished lamely.

Drake couldn’t speak. This was so awkward. Embarrassing. Humiliating. Fuck, this might be the most uncomfortable moment of his life. Savannah seemed equally unable to find any words, both her hands now entirely covering her face. After a couple seconds of painful silence, Riley twisted her head around. “We apparently also needed to ‘review some paperwork.’”

“Ah… oh, my apologies,” Bertrand said, dropping his eyes to his shoes. “Well then… we can, uh… give you the room to…” he trailed off as Savannah let out a choked noise that somehow conveyed embarrassment and discomfort. Drake knew his eyes were wide and based on how warm his cheeks felt, he was blushing like wild. This just kept getting worse.

“I think the mood has been sufficiently killed here,” Riley said, her neck still contorted as Drake kept her as a shield, his boxers and jeans pooled down around his ankles, too far down to allow him to cover up without risking flashing his sister and her boyfriend. “And I’m guessing Savannah feels the same way. Sorry for ruining your chance for birthday… paperwork, Savannah.”

“It’s fine,” Savannah mumbled, waving her hand as she shook her head.

Everyone was quiet for a few seconds, the discomfort spilling off of everyone almost palpable. Finally, Riley broke the silence. “Would you guys mind giving us a second to…”

“Right!” “Of course!” they said at the same time, spinning around quickly.

“Wait!” Drake called out, finally finding his voice. “Not a word of this. Ever. To anyone. This never happened. Agreed?”

Bertrand nodded briskly and Savannah said, “Absolutely,” before they made a rapid exit down the hallway. Once they were gone, Drake groaned, sagging back against the desk.

“Come on, you need to get dressed before someone else catches you with your pants down,” Riley said.

Drake let out a sigh as he reached down and pulled his clothing up. “I don’t want to hear a word about this from you either,” he said, finally making eye contact with her as he tugged his zipper up. Her eyes were playful and she was biting back a grin.

“What, you don’t want me reminding you about the time you called out your sister’s name while I was giving you a blow job?” she teased as she reached forward and started to rebuckle his belt.

“Liu…”

“Come on; it’s at least a little funny.”

He just shook his head. “Either Sav walking in on us or catching my little sister sneaking off for a....”

“Quickie?” Riley supplied as Drake grimaced and shook his head.

“Whatever. Either of those would have been awful enough, but at the same time? Just… fuck.”

Riley chuckled, sliding her hand into his. “I have high hopes you’ll recover from this eventually. But for now, how about we get you a drink… or seven.”

Riley let out a breath as Drake sank into her. The cool wall of the shower against her back contrasted with the warmth of him against her and inside of her. With her legs hooked around his hips, her body pinned against the fiberglass, it almost felt like the entire world was just the two of them, the echoes of their moans and pleas filling the bathroom and adding to the sensation. It felt so damn good, even if the angle wasn’t perfect. There was something about doing this in the shower that just added a surreal quality to the sex.

“Fuck, Liu.” Drake groaned into her hair, “You feel so good.”

She hummed in response, tugging at the hair plastered along his neck, the warm water cascading over her fingers. He must have been able to tell that their position was better for him than her, because she felt his hand settle under her thigh, lifting her a few inches higher as he slid back. She was anticipating his next thrust hitting her just right, clutching at his hair a little more aggressively, when suddenly, the coolness against her back disappeared as Drake let out a string of curses.

Disoriented, her eyes flew open, but the water from the shower head blurred her vision as she tried to make out what was happening as she heard a loud crack and felt a sharp pain in her knuckles and knee as a duller thud echoed behind a tense groan from Drake.

She blinked several times, clearing the water from her eyes, taking in Drake’s shoulder and the floor of the tub, all she could see from her new position. She pushed herself upright, drawing another groan from Drake as she leveraged herself against his chest.

“Drake! Oh my god, what happened?”

He took in a deep breath, coughing slightly as water pelted his mouth and nose. “I slipped. You okay?” he huffed out.

“Am I okay? Drake, what made that noise?”

“I hit the tap on the way down,” he said, his voice still weirdly breathy and quiet as his hands settled on her hips.

“Can you not breathe? Here, I can-” Riley moved to climb off him, essentially straddling him based on their position when they fell, but Drake gave her hip a squeeze as he shook his head.

“Just got the wind knocked out of me.” His voice was a little louder as he blinked a few times, his eyes tracing over her. “You okay?” he repeated.

Riley nodded. Sure, her knee and her knuckles still stung, but he had broken her fall with his body. “I’m not the one who we need to be worried about here.”

Drake just shook his head. “I’m fine, Liu.”

She frowned at that. “Drake… what part of you hit the faucet?”

He paused for a moment before answering. “My head-”

“Shit, Drake! Let me-”

“-But, like I said, I’m fine. Just going to have a bit of a headache.”

“You could be concussed, you moron! Look at me!”

Drake rolled his eyes before locking his gaze on hers. “What, you have experience as a medic I don’t know about?”

She swatted his shoulder. “You think you can sit up?”

He nodded and pushed his hands on the floor of the tub. As Riley glanced down to see how he was moving, she noticed swirls of red twisting in the water as it sank down the drain. “You’re bleeding!” she cried out, pointing down.

Drake glanced around before running his hand along the back of his head. “Huh,” was all he said as he looked at his fingers, glistening bright red.

Riley leaned forward, looking around to the back of his head and tracing her fingers over his scalp until she found the cut behind his ear. “Fuck, you’re going to need stitches, I think. It’s pretty big.”

His head started shaking at that, so Riley scooted back. “What?”

“I can’t go in like this,” Drake said, his eyes wide in horror.

“Well, I would hope you would put on some clothes.”

“Liu, I can’t tell them I split my head open during sex!”

Her jaw dropped open as she stared at him. “Why not? It’s not like they haven’t seen weird injuries before.”

“Can’t you just take care of it?”

“Oh, so now I’m a qualified medical professional?”

“Riley… please.”

While his worry over the embarrassment factor was reassuring that he probably wasn’t too injured, Riley knew he still needed some actual medical attention. “Drake, come on. Your choices are bleeding to death in our shower or sucking it up and telling some doctor you have sex with your fiancée.”

He let out a massive sigh, which Riley took as acquiescence. She climbed off of him and out of the shower, washing her hands in the sink before grabbing her lime green towel and wrapping it around her body. She saw Drake run his hand over his face in the mirror. She spun around and took a step back to the shower, reaching over and turning off the water.

“Stay right there,” she said, running a hand along his shoulder. “I’ll be back in a couple of minutes and we’ll get you dressed before the ambulance gets here.”

“Ambulance?” He jerked his head over to look at her, wincing with his sudden movement.

“Well, we can’t exactly take a Dryve while you’re bleeding.”

He let out another groan at that, dropping his head forward and holding it in his hands. “This is so embarrassing.”

She gave his shoulder a squeeze before heading to the bathroom door. “Chin up, Walker. If you stop moping about this, I promise I won’t tell Maxwell this story.”

“You wouldn’t.”

She just wiggled her eyebrows as she smiled at him before ducking out of the bathroom, chuckling to herself as she listened to him muttering “Fuck,” through the door.

Drake let out a sigh as he closed the door to their bedroom. “She’s out. Finally.”

Riley glanced up from her phone, shaking her head as he tugged off his shirt and tossed it into the hamper. “Do not tempt fate, saying something like that with such confidence.”

“Hey, I read her three stories and did all the voices. I wanted to make sure she was down for the night.”

“Famous last words. Her stubbornness is the stuff of legends.”

“Hmmm, I wonder where she possibly gets that from?” Drake teased as he leaned over and kissed Riley, reaching out to cup her cheek.

“I will take 50% percent of the blame for that most days, but not today,” she quipped as Drake stepped back from the bed and pulled off his jeans.

“Fair enough. You have a good birthday?”

She nodded and gave him a smile, setting her phone down on the nightstand. “I did. Even if I think there was more frosting than actual cake.”

Drake chuckled at that. “Sorry. I couldn’t tell her ‘no’ when she wanted to help ‘give Mommy a pretty cake,’” he said as he climbed into bed.

“Marshmallow,” she said, rolling onto her side to face him.

“Yeah, yeah. I’m a total softie,” he sighed out before twisting to face Riley, kissing her deeply as he sank his hand into her hair, pivoting to position himself over her after a few moments, falling in against her as she slung a leg around his hip.

He kissed along her jaw, working his way down her neck, listening to the contented little sigh she let out, her fingers clutching as his shoulder as he slid his hands along her thighs, massaging as he went, before he tugged off the cotton shorts she wore to bed, peeling down her panties a second later.

Drake moved toward the end of the bed, placing a few light kisses below her belly button as he positioned himself, lifting her legs over his shoulders as she placed a pillow under her hips. He glanced up at her at that, raising an eyebrow, but she just shrugged.

“It’s still my birthday, and I want to be completely satisfied.”

He shook his head at her clear goading. “Liu, I don’t need some fucking pillow to make you come.”

“Just giving you a little-” she started, but her words twisted into a breathy groan as he traced his tongue along her center.

“What was that?” he asked, laughing as she nudged her heel into his back.

“Don’t be so smug,” she huffed out. Drake just smiled up at her before he got back to work, using his tongue, his lips, his fingers. Tasting her. Pushing her closer and closer to that edge. Reveling in the way he knew just how to get her there, the speed and pressure and rhythm that worked for her. Feeling a simultaneous swell of pride and arousal as she ground herself against his face, one of his hands clutching her hip, keeping her right where she needed to be as his other fingers curled inside her.

“Fff-uck, keep going,” she hissed out, one of her hands threading through his hair. He just knew that her other hand was over her mouth, trying to stay quiet, but muffled little groans and hums still filled the room.

He could tell she was close by the way her thighs pressed more firmly against his head, by the speed of her breathing, so he tipped his chin down and slid his tongue deep into as he stroked her clit with his thumb, and then she was gone, her feet pressing against his back as she let out a noise that could best be described as a whimper. He wiped his face against the sheet once her thighs relaxed, giving her a few seconds to recover. He was so turned on, so ready to be inside her.

“DADDY!”

He let out a sigh that morphed into a groan of frustration. That wasn’t Riley’s voice, and besides, that had never been either of their kinks.

“Told you she wasn’t really down,” Riley said, her voice all breathy and sexy, clearly sated and content.

Drake couldn’t help but chuckle at that, dropping his forehead to her stomach. “What are the odds she falls back asleep?”

“I think we’ve got about a two percent chance,” Riley mused, her hand ruffling his hair as another shriek of “DADDY!” trickled through the wall. “Make that one percent,” she added.

Drake pushed himself up and sat on the end of the bed, taking a few deep breaths as he worked on shifting his focus from his naked wife to his clearly sleep-averse daughter. He heard rustling behind him, so he twisted back, surprised to see Riley pulling on her pajama bottoms and grabbing her robe as she got out of bed.

“I can take care of her,” she said, answering his question before he could ask it. “But don’t fall asleep on me. I’m not ready to be done celebrating just yet.”

“Wouldn’t dream of it, Liu.”

She grinned at him, darting out of their bedroom before Jackie could cry out again. Drake let out another sigh as he dragged a hand through his hair. Next time, he would have to try four bedtime stories.

Drake let out a groan, obviously frustrated. “Oh come on.”

Riley burst out laughing. “I’m trying, but it’s hard for me to come when you keep having technical difficulties.”

He glared up at her, which only made her laugh harder. She slid her hands along his chest before leaning down and kissing him, tasting the whiskey still on his lips.

She didn’t think that either of them had that much to drink. Sure, she knew she was a little on the tipsy side, and so was Drake judging by how handsy he’d gotten in public, but she wasn’t drunk drunk or anything. She felt fully in control, aware of everything that was happening. Things just felt covered in a fuzzy sort of glow.

But maybe they were just a little more drunk than she thought. After all, she wasn’t sure that Drake’s repeated issues staying “excited” were that amusing, but she couldn’t stop laughing.

“You ‘up’ for trying again?” she asked as she pulled back, rocking her hips against him, unable to keep a straight face with her pun, lapsing into another fit of giggles.

“Shhh!” Drake hissed out. “You’re gonna wake the whole fucking palace!”

“You should be making me louder than this. You were whispering all the things you were gonna do to me when you got me into bed all night long. What. A. Fucking. Tease,” she said, jabbing her finger into his chest before she started laughing again. “How drunk are you?”

“I’m not drunk,” he insisted, not for the first time that night.

“Well, part of you is.”

He let out another groan at that, slapping a hand over his eyes. “I swear, I didn’t have that much to drink.”

“Maybe you’re just getting old,” Riley quipped, tossing her hair over her shoulder as she traced her hand down his chest and lower, but before she could slide her hand between them to try to coax him back into action, Drake flipped them over, drawing out a surprised little yelp and a fit of more giggles from Riley.

“I’m not old,” he insisted, but the comical pout on his face just made Riley laugh more.

“I don’t know, getting drunk off of what? Four drinks? At your brother-in-law’s wedding? That sounds like something an old man would do.”

“Maxwell isn’t my brother-in-law. And I’m not fucking drunk,” he growled as he sank into her, apparently ready to go… at least for the moment.

“Fine, your brother-in-law’s brother’s wedding. Is that better?” she asked, laughing as Drake let out yet another groan after a couple of thrusts. “Again?”

“I was fine until you kept talking about Maxwell,” Drake muttered into her neck, drawing out another round of laughter which he silenced by kissing her.

“Maybe we should just call it,” Riley said, sliding a hand along his cheek as he pulled back.

He shook his head. “I’m sorry, Liu,” he said, sinking into the bed next to her, tracing a hand along her back as she curled up along his side.

“It’s okay. Just promise me that you won’t do any shots with Liam next time we have a babysitter.”

Drake sighed. “We didn’t even do shots. It was just one last glass of whiskey.”

Riley started laughing all over again. “See, I told you. Old. Fucking. Man.”

idk how many of y’all are true crime fans like me but one of my biggest pet peeves is shitty investigations due to homophobia. during the serial killer boom in the 70s-80s there were tons of killings in the gay community that police never took seriously because they were gay. i forget the name of the killer but he killed three gay men. legit left the bodies outside of his apartment. and police refused to investigate when they learned he was gay. it wasn’t until families literally pointed out all three of their family members were killed in the exact same way in the same exact place that the police stomped their feet and went “fine” as they crossed their arms. jeffrey dahmer. a FOURTEEN year old boy ran out of his apartment naked and BLEEDING. two women found this boy and called over police nearby. jeffrey chased after him and told the police that this child was his boyfriend and they just had an argument. they let jeffrey take the kid back. he murdered him right after that. especially during the 80s a lot of dead gay men would have drugs placed next to their body as a bad attempt to make it look like an overdose and time after time police would believe it.

very similar things happened to sex workers and to a much more extreme extent. when you look at serial killers from the 70s-80s i would bet money 80% of them killed sex workers. that’s because they were never ever investigated when they were reported missing. nothing was ever done. it was even worse than how gay men were treated. that’s why sex workers have always been popular targets for killers because it really hasn’t been the past twenty years that police realized that their lives are just as important. and even then they’re still not properly investigated even today. a lot of serial killers with high body counts have those high body counts most likely because they killed sex workers and police would never investigate until they realized there was a pattern which took a long time. serial killers who kill people from middle or upperclass areas and aren’t sex workers tend to have lower body counts because police are investigating those way quicker. that’s not to say that those people deserve less investigating it’s the point that it should have been equally investigated. it’s so frustrating listening to cases of killers who only killed prostitutes because you know it’s so glaringly obvious what was happening but no one cared because the people being killed were sex workers.

i’m very into true crime and i honestly can say i have no clue why there was even investigations before the 90s. why do you think there’s very little serial killers now and the ones that do exist have low body counts? it’s because investigation actually happens. most importantly DNA and other science shit but understanding the psychology behind it, better understanding tendencies of victims, better evidence collecting, better team work, open mindedness as to circumstances, chasing all leads, technology, etc. in the 80s and before we literally had none of that. if police didn’t catch you in the middle of the time, you had like a 90% chance of getting away with it and a poor person or a person of color taking the blame for your crime. i’m a pretty big believer in that anyone sentenced to life/a super long sentence for a murder or other really bad physical crime should be reinvestigated. especially if the person is not white and or poor. DNA testing has cleared so many people and i bet there’s thousands who still could be cleared from it. but it’s also very expensive and takes a long time. and when a person is cleared due to DNA it’s another time the justice system has to admit they fucked up majorly. so it’s no wonder there’s no push for retesting DNA and other evidence from older crimes to be sure we have the right person. organizations like the innocence project are so important but as i said DNA testing is super expensive and government and justice systems won’t sponsor it because it uncovers their fuck ups so i know for a fact there’s tons of people who need the resources the innocence project has but they just can’t get and it’s very unfair. cases where DNA is found and people are convicted because of their DNA makes me feel comfortable with harsh sentences because there’s undeniable proof that they did it. but we didn’t have that before the 2010s. and justice system is till this day very racist and prejudice against the poor but it was even worse in the 2000s and before. i know for a fact there’s thousands of people who died or are still serving long sentences for crimes they didn’t commit and the majority of them are most likely people of color and or poor people.
