Ah, hello!! It is so exciting to receive an ask from you, I see your wonderful LM Letters posts on my dash all the time, they're always amazing!

12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?

I have a set of interlinked headcanons all revolving around Babet and his dubious work as a quack dentist. These include Babet being the one who extracted Fantine's teeth, and him also pulling the teeth that Éponine is missing in the novel (I can imagine Thénardier would gladly exchange a couple of his daughter's teeth for a few coins). Babet might also extract the teeth of Patron-Minette's victims, and certainly would've plucked teeth from the corpses left behind after the failed uprising. Using these teeth, Babet then crafts and sells false sets... perhaps he even wears a set himself— made entirely from the teeth of his victims *shudder*.

14. Assign a fashion aesthetic to this character.

This is such an interesting question! While I'm not particularly knowledgeable when it comes to fashion aesthetics, I imagine Babet being the sort of person with a "Hollow Businessman" fashion sense, if he had the opportunity to play with his style. What I mean by this is that I see Babet to be the type to meticulously put together an outfit that appears pristine, clean, almost clinical in appearance— all with the intent of presenting himself as reputable and trustworthy to others. However, his empty eyes would always betray his true nature.

25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?

Ooh, I think over time I have actually become increasingly unsettled by Babet's character! On my first read of the novel I glossed over a lot of the sinister details about Babet's previous occupations and never really thought about how he could so easily lose his wife and children as one does a handkerchief... but with each re-read I find a new detail about him which makes me shudder! Specifically, I've become more and more unsettled by how little we know about Babet's criminal history; we're explicitly told that Montparnasse has killed people, it's strongly hinted that Gueulemer was involved in Marshal Brune's assassination, and we even 'witness' Claquesous shoot the porter at the barricades as Le Cabuc— Yet, we never find out if Babet has ever committed murder. It can only be assumed that he has, but I find it unusually chilling that we are never told.

Oh no don’t apologize! I love people asking a bunch of questions because I love rambling about my fics!

💖- What made you start writing?

I have two answers for this question, since I actually stopped writing a while ago and then got back into it.

I first started writing in general because I was primarily a Wattpad user (I had no idea Ao3 existed, but give me a break I was like 13) and I was reading fan fiction for a manga/anime series called Kuroshitsuji or Black Butler and I just wanted a heroine reader like me.

Most of the "readers" or "ocs" in those fics didn't really stand up for themselves and often let the guy characters walk all over them--or they would be referred to as "badass" but were never really given a chance to be badass. And, at the time, they were also mostly blonde haired/blue eyed.

So I started writing because I wanted a heroine reader that stood up for herself and didn't take anyone's shit and was actually badass on paper--and who had brown hair and eyes like me. I actually still have the full outline of the fic I was working on, and a draft of the prologue, and here are two commissions I bought for my oc:

I did eventually stop writing for a while, though, because I was just tired of writing and rewriting and rewriting (the outline and draft I have currently is my 3rd rewrite of the entire thing, 4th if you count the other completely different version of it--I get very nitpicky with my fics sometimes).

What got me back into writing was actually you. I started reading "Shoulder the Sky" and I saw how much work you had put in and how passionate you were about your fic and I just...got inspired. I already had an outline for The Great War sitting in my Google Docs (from back when I first got into Star Wars) and I basically decided "fuck it, if they can do then so can I, I'm gonna start writing again" and I did, and now I have two fics ongoing and several in the works that I can't wait to get to.

👀- Tell me about an up and coming WIP!

Ok, one of my WIPs that I'm working on (that I hope to start writing soon, once I finish the outline) is a Modern!AU called "Deeper Roots."

Basically Cody and Obi-Wan are high school sweethearts who have had a long-distance relationship for over a decade now, since Obi-Wan had to move away from their town when he got custody of his siblings (Anakin, Ahsoka, and Reva) from their father (Qui-Gon) due to family issues.

Well, Obi-Wan and Cody decide that he should move back to town since Anakin will be starting college soon (he's 21, but took a gap year and then waited since he had an accident that took his arm) and the college of his choice is nearby + Ahsoka wants to go to that same college + they all miss Cody a lot and want to see him more.

Only one problem. Cody hasn't come out to his family and they have no idea he's dating someone, let alone that he has a boyfriend and that he's--for all intents and purposes--technically a father of three. They all try to keep things a secret from his family still, but things obviously get a whole lot more complicated once the two sides of Cody's life start to intermingle.

(also, I think Reva should be incorporated into their family in Modern!AU fics more often, I think she'd make a great youngest child)

🥺- Is there a certain moment or common interaction between your characters that never fails to put you in your feels?

Ok, slight spoilers for BCC, but one interaction that always makes me emotional when I start to think about it is this one line that I have planned for the end of BCC.

Basically Obi-Wan and Cody are hiding away in a storage room after a hard battle and Obi-Wan says something about "not wanting to be High General Kenobi."

So Cody says that they don't have to be Commander and General. That, when it's just them, "they can just be Obi-Wan and Cody."

👐- Would you please share a snippet of a WIP?

Nothing else is really written yet, so here's a snippet of the next chapter of Bloodshed, Crimson Clover:

The Force sparked restlessly under Obi-Wan’s skin as he stared at the empty holomap in front of him, eyes searching it for the readouts of a battle that hadn’t happened yet—or, rather, was happening, but just out of reach. He could look away. Attempt to meditate, or finish last mission’s report, or do something more productive with his time, but the near-blinding blue light of the blank screen had already seared itself into his mind and he knew that, even if he walked away, it would follow him. 

So he stayed. 

Staring. 

He hesitantly reached out along his and Anakin’s Force Bond, gently pushing forward the memory of Crys announcing they were only fifteen minutes out and an impression of– you? Them? Safe? 

Part of him didn’t expect Anakin to respond, and another part of him dreaded that very fact, but—as always—Anakin was full of surprises. He was quickly hit with a twin pair of waves, harsh impressions of impatience and frustration that burned the back of his throat, and their corresponding memories—one of the 501st’s Star Cruisers disappearing in a flash of fire and smoke, a supply ship they were escorting quickly succumbing to the same fate, Anakin’s admiral informing him that they couldn’t hold out much longer. 

The taste of ash felt thick and heavy on his tongue, and it took him a moment to recover from the sheer intensity of it all—although he was careful to keep his expression devoid of any emotion. Anakin was strong in the Force, but that meant he often forgot to take into consideration how his power might affect those around him. Obi-Wan was used to it, however, so he was able to disperse the effects quickly enough, and the emotions that followed were all his own.

ask game: 14 and 15!

14. If you could see one of your fics adapted into a visual medium, such as comic or film, which fan fic would you pick?

I was going to say the Bake Off AU because I'd like to see some of those baked goods brought to life, but actually, I would LOVE to see by land, by sea, by dirigible in a visual medium.

By virtue of Ty and Tandy's powers just looking very cool onscreen and the really changeable nature of settings like the Dark Dimension, I got to write some spooky atmospheric stuff and some fun action-y moments and I think all of those would come off very well in a comic tbh. (Especially the weird London-but-not-really bit from chapter five. I love a creepy city vista; it gets me every time.)

15. How do you come up with titles for your fics/chapters?

Titles are honestly my greatest foe! Usually I try to go in for a song lyric that captures the vibe, but sometimes there's a theme I have to stick to, like with the Bake Off AU and its dessert/baking-adjacent titles, and then I end up having painted myself (and Emma) into a corner.

(Also, by the time I get to throwing a title on the fic, I'm usually so tired and eager to get it posted that I can't be bothered to overthink it, so that's nice.)

🤩 Who is your favorite character to write? Oh, good question. I have written a lot of Liu Sang (DMBJ), and I really enjoy writing that combination of bitchy+hyper-competent+insecure. I also loved writing kitten!Kim (KinnPorsche) because kitten!

❌ What's a trope you will never write? omega verse. It’s mostly not my jam, and I don’t care enough about it to try to subvert the trope.

🛒 What are some common things you incorporate in your fics? Themes, feels, scenes, imagery, etc. This one is hard… I think there’s always competence, and someone is usually being an idiot. Often the same person! I try to play a lot with language. Maybe also boundaries: setting them and pushing them. And probably a fair amount of water imagery.

⭐ What is your OC afraid of? Any crippling phobias or some such? How do they act when scared and what helps them calm down? Does anyone ever find your OC scary? Why?

In general, Sparrow is afraid of letting someone close and them hurting her by leaving. It's where her general close-off guardedness comes from. In terms of external phobias, Sparrow gets frightened of tight spaces, imminent failure, and people touching the back of her neck. Her general fright response is to freeze and go very quiet and still while she internally freaks out and tries to come up with a solution to her problem. In very bad situations, she'll shut down entirely.

Calming her down requires some kind of external stimulation--immediately a distraction would work best for her, though in some cases direct discussion of what is frightening her also helps. When taken away from what is frightening her (if it's external), she'll work to calm down on her own in a timely manner so as to not be a burden.

I think Sparrow can be seen as a frightening figure as a natural byproduct of the mythic powers she receives--she is a focus for awe and fear throughout the Fifth Crusade, but more because of those powers than of anything she does. Her natural demeanor makes her easy to ignore and dismiss. However, if you make her truly angry, or she decides she has to target you as a matter of necessity, the single-minded focus with which she'll bring down her enemies can cut a terrifying figure.

My favorite holiday is undoubtedly Christmas, lol. I love the lights and all of the fun festivities around Christmastime 💖 It's just a really good feeling 😊

Other than writing, I really enjoy art and photography. Which kind of comes under art, but it just feels a little different 😂 I also really like video gaming as you probably know, lol 💗

And gosh... That's a hard one. Probably the ability to paint or play guitar or piano, though. I can't paint at all, and musical instruments are almost completely out of the question 😅😬 I would love to play an instrument, though 🥰

And as for how I am? Well, I'm honestly a bit of a stressed, uninspired mess right now, but I'm working on moving past that 🤣 I've got a really big surprise planned if I can actually execute it and get up the gump for it, so hopefully now that I've said something about it, it somehow registers in my mind as taking accountability and I'll get my rear end in gear 😂💖

I don't think so actually? Actually I'm pretty sure I mention being Australian online before people have a chance to guess, so I wouldn't have a clue at all what people would assume I am.

16: which stereotype about your country do you hate the most and which one do you agree with?

I dislike the ones about Australians always swearing or always binge drinking or whatever. Like sure, maybe we're more prone to those things than other countries, but I personally don't swear much or drink much, so it's annoying.

I also get annoyed about "all the dangerous spiders and snakes" because like yes dangerous animals exist but if you take caution it'll be fine. And if you're in the cities you probably won't see them anyway. Having said that, I love the stereotypes about dropbears! I find them hilarious!

🍓 - Fem vibes, interesting! I'm assuming that this is because I'm a sweet individual who strives to listen more than solve who also has a passion for creativity and aesthetic things, and subconsciously or not, those are more often associated with femininity than masculinity. I would say in actuality, yes I do tend to lean fem (in clothing style) but if I was going to call myself fem or masc, I would say masc because I'm more comfortable with that. However I am not a man and being a man wouldn't be pleasant. I love being feminine, but I want to be feminine in a masculine way rather than a feminine way. It's weird, gender is complicated

🐬- Early adult vibes *cries (not literally)* thank you. I'm the youngest in my family and in most of my friend groups and basically everywhere I go I tend to be the youngest person there. And a lot of people, whether intentional or not, tend to treat me like I'm young. And yes, I know that there are functional and valid differences between age groups but I still hate it Because the thing is, to me, being treated like I'm young more often than not means I'm treated as less capable. Less responsible. Less smart. If I say something wrong or if I don't have evidence and research to go with things I say, people tend to get that voice where they're correcting you and doubting you and it makes you feel like a stupid child when you're not. And there's nothing wrong with children! I don't want them, but they're so much smarter and more capable than we give them credit for. It drives me crazy So to hear that I have adult-ish vibes, even if it's early adult vibes, is actually really comforting and flattering. I want to talk and be weird and say dumb stuff without feeling like it makes me less of a person. Without feeling like I've failed somehow. Just because I'm small and my voice is annoyingly high pitched and I look like I'm 12 sometimes, doesn't mean I'm any less worthy of respect or that I'm any less capable than anyone else Getting a little trauma dumpy here sorry, but this plays into my big fear of being seen as unreliable too. I always have so much I want to do and sometimes I try to do too much. And sometimes I'm not doing too much but because of mental or physical health issues or unexpected life things happening, I don't get everything I want to done on the timeline that I said it would. I feel like I'm always playing catch up on my own projects and obligations, even on things that should be low stress and pressure, and it's exhausting I don't want to let anyone down and I don't want anyone to think I'm not capable. I know that I am. I know that I'm responsible and I can be reliable and I want to be and I want to be that person that everyone knows will always come through for them. Just sometimes it's a lot and I do things slower than I meant to or my brain dies and I forget about them entirely. And that's not completely my fault either, I have a lot of things making life more complicated for me, it's just- yeah. It's a lot Anyway, the point is thank you. I really do hope that I come off as mature and dependable and a good person. Because I try really hard to be that

🐷- Friendly vibes. Good! I am extremely friendly! I love people so much and I always want to meet new people and make new friends and I'll probably end up overextending myself again trying to help them all (because I do that), but I've gotten a lot better at that. And internet friendships take a lot less out of me than in person friendships do. I'm always happy to meet new people and have conversations and you are always welcome to come and bug me about whatever you want and even if I don't respond quickly or very interestingly, I love to listen and I'm probably just tired

🔥- ha ha, yeah accurate. I am a Smol, in more ways than one. My family and I make a lot of jokes about me being a twig because I'm so short and skinny. I used to want to be shorter when I was young because shorter = easier to fit into small spaces. I never got the whole tall hype vibe. I get it a bit more now but honestly, I'm happy with my short height. Not too small but definitely still small.

⭐- cozy vibes. Absolutely I hope so! I love cozy. I almost always have a blanket with me at home and I'll often be curled up wherever I'm sitting. "You exist perpetually in a state of oversized sweatshirts and comfy jeans or leggings." Comfy jeans or leggings 100%. Comfy pants for the win. Oversized sweatshirts I love, but actually I don't wear them a whole ton. I think I used to more back before I developed a sense of fashion. I tend to wear long shirts that I tuck into my pants and it's a vibe and I look really cute. Lots of button up flannels because those are great for fighting dysphoria (wearing one right now lol, it's one of my favorite shirts) Highly recommend "You have something warm to drink at all times" hmmm oddly enough no. I always have water with me because water is life, but that's the majority of what I drink. I love hot chocolate, but I don't have a lot of it. I also drink herbal tea sometimes and I guess that's warm... if I was a coffee person, I'd probably have more warm drinks, but I'm not. It's mostly just water that I drink "A smile for others even when you don't feel it yourself because you just want others to be happy in life" I hope so! I really do just want everyone to be happy and if I can do something to help someone be a bit happier, I will gladly do it. I also love my smile so sometimes I'll smile for myself even if I don't feel it because it'll make me happier. I have a beautiful smile

Introduction

Hi! I'm an anonymous asker who sometimes sends fellow simmers questions. "Simblr Question of the Day" is something I saw going on around September '23 and I wanted to revive this "trend"! After a bit, some simmers suggested a SQOTD blog, to which I agreed and finally did it! I can broaden my asking horizons to blogs w/o anons now :)

I'm going to continue preserving my anonymity, but I'd like to share some basics about me ! ~

You can call me squat or squatty! A name I chose based on the way I pronounce "SQOTD," You can also call me SQOTD Anon! My timezone is ( PST ) - I like the colors yellow and pink/red, I've been playing the sims since I was 5 and I like to read and write :)

And below the cut will include a little rundown of how I will run this blog and navigation hashtags ~

- I want to start off by saying that while I do play TS4, I'm going to try and keep my SQOTDs all-sim-games-friendly, so if you play TS3, 2 or 1 and want to answer, go right ahead! Feel free to "translate" them for older games if you want to answer and it seems too "Sims-4-oriented" - Also! You can absolutely answer: 1. older SQOTDs 2. a SQOTD multiple times or 3. a SQOTD that isn't prompted by an ask while this is a ~daily questions blog~, you can also consider it a questions archive where you can pull any question out and answer it whenever and however many times you want to :) -I will queue a question once a day around 4am-5am PST, I will try to vary the type of questions (builds/renders/cas/sims/ocs). I also do around 3-4 tzrs per SQOTD. -I will also send a SQOTD to a random 5-10 Simblrs either around 4-5 AM or somewhere in the same day in my time (I forewarn this in the chance that I'm asleep around 4-5 AM) - and yes, I will make sure that it's different Simblrs everyday :) -Interact with these posts in anyway you prefer: reblog, reply or a separate post!
