Hi! I work in ad sales research for a TV network and your answer about demo ratings and everything you said was spot on! I would just like to add I ran the final numbers when they came in and last night's episode ranks among the top 5 lowest live same day ratings in PD history on key A18-49 demo. The important thing to note is this happened with no real entertainment broadcast competition happening on the night which is very telling! When competitive dramas come back in Feb and March we will have a better idea of how dire those low ratings are (I'm personally hoping to see PD drop out of the top 5 dramas). While far lower-rated dramas than PD are renewed, it's most likely because they are much cheaper to produce than PD. For example, FOX canceled 911, TV's #1 broadcast drama of the 22/23 season on A18-49 because of how expensive it is (although ABC picked it up). Also worth saying that advertisers buy commercial time on C7 ratings so if the ratings jump up significantly with later viewing (up to 7 days later on DVR or playback) then that would make the low live same day ratings a non-issue. I just wanted to say this because if people stopped watching PD they should be encouraged by this week's low ratings. Series low ratings on a night where there is no scripted competition is probably the best way for the network and/or powers to be to take notice.
