If you haven't already go and read ’Til our compass stands still by @edenwolfie, it's quite possibly my favourite TGCF fic I've ever read. I love canon-divergence AUs and this has all my favourite tropes, it's nice and long, the side characters are all great and Xie Lian and Hua Cheng are perfect.

I love pre-third ascension Xie Lian meeting Hua Cheng early and I love Xie Lian ending up in Ghost City so this was perfect (any other recs like this please send my way I will read them all).

yayyyyyy friend fanfic!

i was rapid fire spewing out buddy daddies huaxuan AU headcanons at @muigiel one day and one of them (admittedly a little astray from buddy daddies at that point ... modern he xuan struggling single dad raising baby lianlian and banyue while trying to finish his biology PhD and incoming hot mess casino owner hua cheng) landed and they wrote a whole multi chapter fic about it!! it's been so fun to read and they kindly chose to set in a town i used to live in and i've developed deeply comprehensive lore about the gay bar they frequent (the last lesbian bar there that closed in 2017 but 25-year-old casino mogul hua cheng buys it and saves it from closing, it becomes a queer bar, yin yu is the manager and ling wen is the fuckboy lesbian bartender that gave me free tequila shots one memorable evening in 2016).

brb writing head canons in my mind about the breifly mentioned moment of he xuan's past as a horny & diehard romantic teenager trying to date aroace yin yu before they ended up lifelong besties helping raise he xuan's kids (with quan yizhen and eventually hua cheng of course). i love these dudes T.T

also honourable mention for before hua cheng gets in the picture yin yu occasionally lending he xuan his boyfriend quan yizhen for casual sex and them all cuddling in bed together sometimes. that healed me...

Kay's comments: Despite the funny title and summary, the fic itself doesn't belong to the "crack treated seriously" genre and is indeed serious and fluffy. Little A-Ying steals some good at one of Hua Cheng's temples and when he finds out, he decides that he can't leave the child there and brings him home instead. I love me some good Hualian adopt Wei Wuxian stories, so this one is really a treat. Really loved how Hua Cheng teased A-Ying in this story too and Hualian are cute together as well. Excerpt: "That doesn't belong to you,” Hua Cheng said casually as he stepped out into the light, the chains on his black boots jingled crisply as he moved. The owner of the hand flinched. It was attached to a child, malnourished and unbathed. He held the piece of dried fruit he’d swiped to his chest with an iron grip and quickly hunched his shoulders to try and make himself appear smaller. A reflex, an instinct clearly born from past experience. Hua Cheng was intimately familiar with the strategy. He leaned down to get a good look at the kid. Unbound hair covered big intelligent eyes. He was probably adorable underneath all of the muck that came from living on the streets. Hua Cheng assumed if the boy had a good home, he wouldn’t be starving enough to steal old fruit. “Well?” Hua Cheng prompted. “What are you waiting for?” The child tilted his head and gave Hua Cheng a strangely genuine smile. Like it was all he could think to do. It contrasted with the scared glint in his eyes and the white-knuckled clench of his hand. The boy carefully unfurled his fist to offer the fruit to Hua Cheng, putting on a good act of hiding how much he desperately didn’t want to let it go. “Here,” the child’s voice was hoarse when he finally responded. “Sorry.”
