Art Request
Hi folks! We’ve got a large number of participants for our little tourney! Since these are podcast people, most of them don’t have official/free to use art. So, especially since we have multiple characters from the same podcasts, I need your help!
Below is a list of characters. If their name is not crossed out, that means I need art! Please dm me your art (and how you would like to be properly credited if it differs from your blog handle). Do not send art that isn’t yours unless you have explicit permission from the artist.
Characters are ordered by show (shows listed alphabetically) and not by bracket listing. Brackets will be revealed after preliminary rounds.

I’ve been watching your art from a distance ever since I met you at 2018 Otakon (you gave me and my friend free mini TAZ zines), and I’ve had a print of yours hanging up in my room for about six years. Every time I’m back at Otakon (it’s only been once so far) I make sure I stop by your booth to see what you’ve been up to. YOUR DIMENSION 20 ART! IS INCREDIBLE!!!! It’s so amazing to see how far you’ve come in the last few years - an official artist of critical role and dimension 20 and a published author. I admire you and aspire to your art practice. Also, every time your character art comes out for the bad kids it hits me like a truck. Thank you ❤️😭👍
Holy smack thank you SO much?! What an amazing message to start my day, this means the world to me ♥ Thank you thank you thank you!

It’s so interesting how spot-on you were with the thoughts about toxic Beaujes folxs fleeing to D20. The same person who’s been starting shit on twitter just found out that CR doesn’t allow mass-produced zines, and used that fact to make some batshit generalization about how “that’s why the fandom is corporatized and violent and racist towards any canon-contradicting fanon like all my beaujester friends told me and now I’m parroting it uncritically”.
So I think this might be my last post on this unless some more wild shit goes down (very possible) not because I disagree but just because I am also trying to be conscious of overshadowing my genuine excitement for The Ravening War. But yeah...like, I followed a few people who were CR fanartists until Beauyasha started happening and unfollowed them once that went down; it was extremely exhausting watching a bunch of (mostly white) people in their early 20s suddenly claim a show they'd watched over 200 episodes of was hopelessly problematic simply because their ship didn't happen. It was a truly vile combination of normal shipping drama plus appropriated social justice language about said shipping drama plus, as others have noted, middle-class white queer people [a demographic I fit into myself] shoving aside narratives about POC or working class people because they aren't explicitly queer narratives (or even narratives about queer people that aren't to their exact specifications of what queerness looks like; see people who refuse to respect Molly's pronouns or who erase Vax's bisexuality because he was primarily romantically involved with a woman).
The zine thing is fucking wild in particular for the following reasons:
The two CR-centric zines that person has mentioned as not ultimately moving forward were both zines that intended to pay the artists, ie, at least partially for profit rather than charity zines.
I am not personally in a creative industry but I've been reliably told by basically everyone who is that CR's policy is boilerplate.
CR has a pretty extensive history of showcasing and hiring fanartists; this is not opposition to fan content, which is how this wack job is attempting to portray it.
Similarly no one is devaluing fan content; they're just saying "you are throwing a big old hissy fit in public about the hypothetical scenario of The Ravening War not honoring a ship that has, and I am not joking here, six fics on Ao3 in total." (For reference: Lapin/Theo, a ship that person actively dislikes, has 56 works, which, idk I feel that's almost ten times as widely accepted fanlore.)
Their twitter currently is bragging about their cookbook zine (which as far as I know wasn't based in fanon but was just a cookbook with fanart in it) and not about their currently active charity zine (which is the one about Belizabeth and Citrina). Also that charity zine is available for free which really undercuts the "for charity" aspect. Anyway a cool thing to do is to not buy it, but just donate directly to the International Rescue Committee or your refugee-supporting charity of choice.
Anyway. This was an opportunity to rant a lot but I will leave you with this: I am not the right person, obviously, to enumerate every possible issue with CR's portrayal of characters of color nor the lack of diversity of the cast. I think discussions of racism and lack of representation in actual play are important to have. But it's telling that fanartists, specifically, who left CR over Beau and Jester not getting together but pretended this was about social justice, always seem to go to D20. Or NADDPod. Or Friends at the Table. Or have their art featured in the TAZ graphic novels. All majority white or entirely white main casts.
They rarely seem to go to, say, Rivals of Waterdeep, or Into the Motherlands, or Three Black Halflings (and those are still some of the better known examples, frankly). People complaining that Critical Role hates lesbians for having a lesbian relationship they didn't like never seem to check out The Broadswords, or use resources like this to find women-led actual play. It's about getting clicks; they want to find an existing fandom to adore them rather than use the power they claim to wield to popularize something underrated.
Anyway that's the last reason why I think I'm done for now: I think the best and most satisfying thing is to starve them of attention, and to enjoy the Ravening War and art and fic about it from fans who are happy to be here.

Hey question. How/where do people find MAPs (as in Multi Animator Projects creeps pls don't interact.....with me or with anybody) and/or zines to join?
I'd really love to join something like this, I only animated something for a TAZ animation project back in the day and I'm not that proud of how it came out! ahhh;;;;

Ough I need to avoid my TAZ shelf when I'm tired, because reminding myself that The Adventure Zine and the graphic novels are right next to each other and how painful some of the differences between them are legitimately gives me a migraine. That and my eyes are weird so looking at comics for too long just does that anyways but I digress

Fanfic asks 7, 28, 35
7: Your favorite AO3 tag
Every fandom/micro-fandom variation of “no beta, we die like [fill in the blank]” makes me laugh and i have a handful that I use for my own works (“no beta we die like saiev” for my Zelda fics bc of Red, and “no beta we die like phandalin” for my TAZ: Balance fics). As for faves for things I like to read, Everybody Lives tends to be my go-to. I don’t actually have any tags favorited that aren’t ship tags
28: Any writing advice that works for you and you feel like sharing?
SO the answer to this one is yes and no. I have ADHD and I’m autistic - I’ve not yet found a method that works for me when it comes to writing consistently, keeping focused, etc, because habit forming is very difficult for me and so is keeping to schedules (this is why Habits hasn’t been updated in over a year, I think? And fuck knows when I updated Notos last)
For me, the main writing advice I both give and follow is “Just write the thing, stop thinking so hard”, “write the stories that you want to tell”, and “write it, even if you think it’s shit; you don’t get flowers without fertilizer”. These are all things I’ve had to learn for myself after years of having shitty fandom experiences. I sat back one day and realized that I write because I’m writing for myself, I’m writing the stories I want to read as well as tell, and told myself to stop caring about my numbers. I objectively don’t give a single solitary fuck about comments, hits, or kudos, outside of the fact that one of my rarepair one shots has way more than my long fic because it makes me smile - I don’t get a lot of engagement from what I can tell (I also dont have an active posting routine so lol), but I’m a lot happier creating this way.
One of the other things that I’m doing lately is just writing the fun part. Not “write the fun part first”, but just writing the fun part that’s grabbing me completely unconnected to whatever greater thing might have spawned it. Now, combining this with the [get there] method, which is what I do for the connective tissue scenes between the moments/beats I’ve written, this leads to not finishing a lot of things, but that’s between me and my ADHD.
35: Thoughts on writing challenges/contests
The only challenge i ever really partake in is NaNoWriMo. Knowing how my brain works and how I struggle with consistency and finishing projects, I don’t particularly feel comfortable doing things like big bangs, fic exchanges, or applying as a contributor for zines? I also don’t write for contests just because writing contracts adjacent to that stuff can get janky fast. It’s always super fucking cool to see what challenges produce, though, and I love seeing when a collection goes up that compiles everything from an exchange, bang, or challenge. It’s just not for me as a creator, which is lowkey a lil heartbreaking for me.

11, 15, and 28 for the artist asks!
11. Do you listen to anything while drawing? If so, what?
Oh I definitely listen to stuff while I work (Autism moment). It depends on what I'm in the mood for; sometimes I'll put a playlist of video game music on shuffle and listen to it play (Some of the games include Animal Crossing, Nier Automata, Hades, Transistor, all 3 Splatoon Games, Apex Legends, and Monster Hunter). Other times I'll listen to video essays, usually about obscure topics. My go-to for those types of videos are usually Izzzyzz or Defunctland (I've also been listening to Johnny2Chelos Bojack Horseman analysis videos, despite not having an interest at all in the series). Sometimes I'll listen to podcasts too; sometimes i listen to the live special episodes for TAZ or The Magnus Archives. Critical Role is one I've been meaning to get into but it's such a hefty series that it's hard to make the commitment :') sometimes the mood of the piece I'm working on effects what I choose to listen to, but generally if all else fails I just put on one of those really long lofi compilation videos and let it play.
15. *Where* do you draw (don't drop your ip address this just means do you doodle at a park or smth)
Honestly, "at home" is the only answer I have off the top of my head lol. Now that I have an actual desktop setup, I spend a lot of time drawing at my desk in my apartment. Before I did, I had a touchscreen laptop that I'd bring around nearly everywhere and just set up and draw till the battery was dead, but unfortunately it's 5 years old at this point so the keyboard is beginning to malfunction. I might save up to get it repaired eventually, I don't wanna get rid of it.
28. Any art events you have participated in the past (like zines)
I was in the MAProject (Multi-Animator Project) community for a while! I stopped participating as much as I just don't have the free time for it these days, but I would like to get back into it to make OC animations... other then that, I have participated in one zine before, the Evening Star Native Artist Zine!! It was a lot of fun and I'm really proud of how my piece turned out; I'd love to apply to more open-ended or maybe even fandom zines to try and do experimental character illustrations but again I don't have a ton of free time :,,,)

What have you been up to? Ramble away about your current interests my friend 👉😎👉
uhhhhhhh well. in the years since consistent activity I have:
Started, Subscribed, and MSQ/Major sidequest Cleared FFXIV and it occupies my brain like a parasitic worm (but I love it) as goes most people who get into it it seems. For those wondering started with WHM and have run it through just about everything so I'm fairly confident I am at least Somewhat Competent in pretty much everything except Savage and Alexander raids (shudders in Eyes of the Creator if you know you know)
Not only that but have main 5 categories of battle class leveled- WHM for healer, PLD for tank, MNK for melee, DNC phys ranged, RDM caster
I should stop talking about FFXIV help
I think I've changed jobs??? still call center-based work boo been there two years and I Hate It Homie (but hey 16/hr without a degree is hard to beat)
my cringe ass ff.net is poised for deletion as I've got ebook back ups of everything I just can't commit yet (and might not have to since I hear. Gasping Dying rumors about ff.net being on last legs)
I've developed a hobby of making FEH wlw ships- Azura/Deirdre, Mathilda/Lilith, Nagi/Natasha, Felicia/Selena (sacred stones) to throw some out -and stubbornly want to write fic but can't seem to figure out how to finish it oops
also generally feel awkward posting on AO3 because I don't really agree with their "you can write fic of actual people" stance but also Where Else Post Fic but also jokes on me I can't finish fic anymore
speaking of I did contribute to a zine or two with the Invincible Zine group over on twitter a handful of Duo Unit scripts and a 5k one shot on the Horrors of Adrift Corrin
("Katie isn't that the "uwu" corrin alt that looks after baby azura what is possibly horrifying about that" you ask and to which I respond "eldritch horror of being a dream-based sentient clone made real babeyyyyyyyyyyyy" and I didn't even use all my concepts and ideas)
Genshin Impact made a character I finally was willing to eat the lore for Miss Shenhe I love you so much what a wlw icon I think I did reblog something of her earlier but yea love
Played through Persona 5 Royal was a good game but I have never seen a game Say So Much and Nothing At All at the same time while also contradicting itself (and somehow in 100+ hours of gameplay even on 2nd easiest difficulty and w/ a friend and a guide hello). Core cast is poggers tho love these high schoolers and I don't think anyone would be surprised to hear I love futaba the most
Have kinda accepted that I've fallen out of love with KH and frankly don't feel a lot of hype for 4. 3 was a solid gameplay entry with some neat use of worlds for the filler plot but the more time goes on the more disappointed I get with how it handled resolving anything from all the build up, shafting it in favor of setting up a game that doesn't even exist yet.
Because of this I REALLLLY loved Endwalker and was very happy to play it on release (oops back on XIV braincell)
I do miss RikuVen tho and think about how Re:Mind validated the hell out of me by confirming Riku hung out with the Wayfinders and to the lil guys out there making content big fucking salute I'm sorry I'm a bitter woman who couldn't handle expectations.
Have a wild ass idea about XIV/Fates crossover to give an excuse for Ysayle/Corrin to exist they are just about perfect together but can't quite figure out how to make a plot to justify it that I'm satisfied with
I made a quotes bot on twitter that may not last much longer but eh
Gotten really into The Oh Hellos not out of any christian love but moreso the lyrics are just (chef kiss)
TAZ Ethersea season one was. Okay? It started really strong but fell off like the shoreline which was. sad. I can hope season 2 learns better from the mistakes there but also can't be too mad improv-based storytelling is hard to 100% nail
is that everything? I think that's like everything. still me just now several years older and just a smidge wiser and man I'm gonna be 26 in like. a week.
oops.
