Today was Rachel Bay Jones’ final performance in Dear Evan Hansen. I was so lucky to have the opportunity to see her breathtaking and heart wrenching performance when I saw Dear Evan Hansen in April. This amazing show and this amazing woman left me and my mom sobbing (it hit really close to home). Thank you for giving us something so real and amazing. Happy trails!

“I’m over the moon. It was frustrating this morning when they cut away from the live CBS broadcast so I had to FaceTime my manager to find out. It was really exciting. It gives my heart so much hope because it’s such a beautiful show and to be honored this way and for me to be a part of it, these characters, this message, it’s all just wonderful. The fact that these human characters, who are both flawed and gorgeous and this story is being accepted in this way in the community is so meaningful to me. And the fact that my character, who is a struggling person has been celebrated, I’m really just blown away. It gives me a lot of hope. I think I’ll probably take the dogs out for a nice walk and wait for my daughter to come home from school so I can tell her the news and I can’t wait to be with the cast later tonight - it will be really special!”

is no one talking about the DEH tour cast???? oh my sweet goodness. these people.

let me blow your MINDS.

MARRICK SMITH is literally going to be such a great Connor??? like??? wow???? you can listen to him singing “Pieces of Them” here on YouTube and fall to pieces imagining him singing “Disappear” or that little heartwrenching reprise of “For Forever” with his arm around Evan’s shoulder. he’s obviously a great actor from this clip alone, and it doesn’t hurt that you can almost feel a voice similar to what Connor’s might be in “Pieces of Them” itself. i cannot WAIT to see what Marrick Smith does with this role! i’m ready to get hit with sobs.

my real life inspirations CHRISTIANE NOLL and JESSICA PHILLIPS were both in productions of Next to Normal—which is, by the way, one of my favorite musicals of all time—and there is video of both of them singing “I Miss the Mountains” and it makes me feel so many things. so many. you can watch Jessica here and Christiane here and revel in Jessica’s seamless presentation of Diana’s character, or maybe choke up at Christiane’s understated but so moving performance. thinking of them completely slaying “Anybody Have A Map?” is honestly such a blessing, folks. folks. my heart.

MAGGIE MCKENNA: an australian queen???? i already love her??? her smooth voice entrapped my heart when i heard her sing “Psychopath” here and i tremble in anticipation of her “Requiem??” i’m literally so excited for every song she’s going to be in?? i’m so ready oh my goodness the show can’t come soon enough.

 uhh JARED GOLDSMITH aka the greatest surprise i’ve ever had in my life?? like i looked him up and the first video i found, i started listening expecting him to be really good, obviously, and was actually just kind of like, “eh, yeah okay,,,,” but i kEPT LISTENING and THANK GOD because about a minute and twenty seconds in he kind of,,, started,,,, like,, not just being pretty alright but exploding with amazing??? and it just built up more and more to the end and i’m so impressed! he’s sO good and go listen to this song (which i guess he co-wrote too??) if NOTHING ELSE. he’s gonna knock jared kleinman out of the freaking park, i can tell.

PHOEBE KOYABE has my heart in her hands, and let me tell you, she could crush it like a grape!!! her cover of “Toxic” here is everything i never knew i needed and i am in love with her voice, it’s so good and natural???? i am so so ready to hear her completely kill alana’s role and be everything i aspire to. she’s amazing and i’m here for it.

while i am only supportive of larry murphy on a conditional basis, i am completely supportive of AARON LAZAR who sings a classically smooth, lovely “All I Ask Of You” for you to enjoy right here and gives me chills and who I am POSITIVE will bring good things to “Break In A Glove” and probably even larry murphy in general!

of course while i’m sure we all know the incredible and talented BEN LEVI ROSS, i would once again like to draw your attention to the fact the he is a fantastic actor and singer and that we are blessed to have him portray Evan on tour!!!! you can snatch up his “Waving Through a Window” here if sOMEHOW you haven’t yet listened to it (he starts actually at about 0:50 in). his Evan gives me life and if you’d like a wider selection, check out his fantastic “Her Voice” from the Little Mermaid here, which is sO great and which i love dearly. i count the days until i hopefully get to see him on tour!

NOT TO BE FORGOTTEN, the incredible covers/understudies that are going on tour!! CIARA ALYSE HARRIS, MARIA WIRRIES, NOAH KIESERMAN, JANE PFITSCH, JOHN HEMPHILL, and COLEEN SEXTON are all so fabulous and i would be privileged to see any of them if they go on for one of their characters when i get to see the show!! understudies/swings/alternates for every show are so amazing, and so rarely get to have their talent recognized, and they really do deserve it! i want to make a whole separate post about how FANTASTIC they are so i won’t go tOO much into it now!

of course, last but never least, is the wonderful Evan alternate STEPHEN ANTHONY CHRISTOPHER, who also sings a heart-wrenching Evan and has the acting chops to boot. what a wonderful actor for the job, and i’m always very impressed with his ability!! i know there are tracks of him singing as Evan floating around if you look, but i would also like to draw your attention to his version of “Goodbye” from the Catch Me If You Can tour, which is another musical i dearly love. if this song isn’t a gorgeous representation of his voice i have no clue what is.

guys.

guys. this musical, and these actors and actresses. this tour. it’s gonna be so so good. they’re going to reach out and touch everything in our hearts that made us love this musical, with their words and their voices and their interpretations of every character. and we aren’t talking about it enough. uhh if you wanna scream about any version of Dear Evan Hansen with me feel free to hit me up. im seeing it next month on tour and if you can’t tell i’m WAITING WITH BATED BREATH.

DEH arena stage

In the arena stage production; instead of Zoe saying ‘But you told me that you guys would talk about me and that you would… How could you do this?’ During words fail, she says “How could you say that you loved me? And How could you let me love you back?” And honestly it breaks my heart every time I just think it’s so much sadder than the current line

This is such a beautiful moment to me. It’s what Ben is always mentioning in interviews when he says that “For Forever” is a time where Evan heals the Murphys, but also finds a way to heal himself. In this moment, Cynthia has her son back; but beyond that, Evan almost has his mom. (x)
