On board of the Waverider, shortly after Alari joined the legends for the first time.

Zari: I am the older sibling. Clearly I should wield the air-totem.

Behrad: Yes, you should when it´s your time. But now it´s my turn.

They continue fighting. Alari comes in. Seeing her opportunity, she carefully comes closer and takes the totem, fixing it to her wrist.

Alari: I like it. It kinda suits me, don´t you think?

Zari: No. Things are already complicated enough as they are.

Behrad: Fine. Test it, but then hand it back. We have a mission.

Alari: I want to try it.

Behrad and Zari throw themselves to the ground.

Alari *pointedly*: I didn´t aim it at you, did I?

Zari, from the ground: Just to be safe.

Alari *flings her wrist*: Like this?

Behrad: Try again.

Finally, some books fly through the room.

Alari: I did it! That was fun. I am going to post about it now. You guys have fun.

She drops the air-totem between them, leaving the room.

Zari *standing up*: And we are back at the start.

Smart, good at reading people, good at adapting accordingly. She can fight, she can use and modify alien tech. More street smarts than book smarts but when people underestimate her she uses that too.

Erica Ortegas, Star Trek: They are a pilot. They have flown manually through asteroids and nebulas, without sensors. They have skimmed off black holes to slingshot. If they didn’t do evasive manoeuvres right everyone would die. They are driving the ship. That’s pretty critical. Bonus mention for sword skills in that fantasy nebula.

Dr. Julia Ogden, Murdoch Mysteries: She's Toronto's coroner in 1895, and helps solve many many murders. She also becomes a psychologist and a surgeon, and helps the suffragettes. As a woman, at the turn of the 20th century. She also learns to fight in many layers of dress

Naomi Nagata, The Expanse: There is nothing that this woman can't build, fix, or frankenstein. Also, she survived being thrown out of an airlock by knowing (better than the person who threw her out) what to do in the vacuum of space. She fights with all that she has, and leaves no one behind, and has the biggest heart and heaviest conscience of them all.

Garnet, Steven Universe: Garnet can see into the future! She leads the whole team! She can punch anything into submission AND throw in one-liners when you least expect them!

Death of the Endless, The Sandman: Death of the Endless is the anthropomorphic personification of the concept of death, and she is literally the best at her job, i.e. carrying, ferrying or otherwise welcoming souls of the dead to their chosen afterlife, colloquially known in Sandmanverse as the Sunless Lands. Her duty is everything to her and about her, though Death also adores her siblings equally, even if she's very busy all the time; as she put it most poetically, "When the first living thing existed, I was there waiting. When the last living thing dies, my job will be finished. I'll put the chairs on the tables, turn out the lights and lock the universe behind me when I leave." And her vibes are SO. FRICKIN. FUN.

Zari Tarazi, DC: Zari doesn’t need a superpower or combat training for success because she has social skills that rival next to none. She knows her femininity can cause people to underestimate her so she uses it to influence her way in to places most other heroes would need force to access. Her deep understanding of people has helped save the world more than once while running a successful business besides.

Allison Blake, A Town Called EUReKA: Allison was a Department of Defense agent working as a government liaison between Eureka and the Pentagon. She was once a medical doctor and has 2 PhDs. At one point she oversees the main laboratories of Eureka, at another she's Director of Operations for Global Dynamics.

Bad Wolf, Doctor Who: Controls all of time and space, makes Jack immortal, disintegrates the Dalek fleet, is the intelligence of The Moment and is always protecting the Doctor.

introvert solidarity

a/n: got in my feels abt behrad 1.0 as one does n remembered this fic i wrote. literally over a year ago. and never actually posted. but it's funny and cute, and if you haven't read any of my other behrad 1.0 fic, you should.

Some days, Spooner felt like the only rational one on the Waverider.

Well, scratch that. A lot of days, she felt like that. But today the feeling was especially strong. 

It had started with some totem nonsense. She wouldn't pretend she knew exactly every loophole the Tarazis could squeeze out of their family heirloom, but they had stumbled upon a realization: if there was a Zari from an alternate timeline in there, then surely there was the Behrad from that timeline in there too.

The Legends took the news excitedly and as usual, took things overboard. Which meant that within five seconds the now-dubbed Behrad 1.0 coming out of the totem, they had broken the man by trying to go in for the group hug. 

She had to admit, the team realizing they'd fucked up by just being their usual touchy selves was a little amusing. Spooner, however, got tired of their tryhard energy pretty quick and slipped off to the lab.

That was where she had been keeping herself busy and working on her guns when the door slid open. She glanced up as Behrad 1.0 hurried inside, glancing out the glass window of the lab. 

She nearly said something, but it only took a second for her to pick up on a whole load of adrenaline pumping and stress. He didn't seem afraid, like he was running from the team. But she could guess that they were probably a tad overwhelming out there.

Spooner set her gun down on the metal table, catching his attention. When he turned to her, the weirdness of him being just a few years younger than the Behrad she knew hit her all over again. She'd never really thought of him as that young before, though she was probably closer in age to his older sister. But she guessed folks stopped aging in the totem, because it was uncanny. "Sorry. I didn't know you were here."

"Hiding from them too?" she asked him.

"I'm not- Yeah, I'm hiding from them," Behrad answered. He pushed away from the door, peering over her shoulder. "Whatcha working on?"

"Just my gun." Spooner patted the barrel proudly. "Made them myself."

"Cool," he said. "I'm not a really big fan of guns, if I'm being honest." He raised a hand to his chest, making her realize she'd never exactly learned how this version of Behrad died. 

"Well, some things don't change." She turned around to face him. "Other than being all in your face, how's the team been treating you so far?"

He went over to one of the chairs, plopping down. "Are they always so... tiring?"

Spooner chuckled. "Yeah, I'm still not used to it either."

"My siblings told me lots of stories about their shenanigans, but they certainly didn't warn me about this." Behrad threw up his hands. "All they said is that they're a bunch of lovable losers, not lovable losers who try to cling to you like a barnacle."

She knew Zari 1.0 was still out there, probably lecturing the others about not being all in her brother's face. She didn't know what she'd been expecting when this Behrad popped out, but she had to say, it was a little amusing that he seemed to share her dry humor unlike the chill, bro nature of the one she knew. "At least you got a warm welcome. I was introduced to them by getting abducted."

"How did they abduct you?" he asked with a laugh.

"Uh, well the other you and another Legend who isn't around any more broke into my property and then the others came and scooped me up," Spooner told him. "Fun stuff."

"From what my sister - the one from my timeline - told me, they seem to have a knack for that kind of stuff."

"Guess there's worse things than almost being smothered with affection, huh?" she asked.

Behrad smiled. "Yeah, there are."

The door to the lab slid open again as Zari came in, Sara in tow. "Oh, there you are."

"What, did you think I'd get lost?" he asked. 

"Honestly, I thought you just went back into the totem," she told him.

"Nah, we were just hanging out," Spooner said. 

Zari turned to her in surprise. "Oh."

Nate and Gary appeared in the window of the lab, grins on their faces. Spooner didn't need her powers to see the fear on Behrad's face from their enthusiasm. 

"Ava's making dinner," Sara said. "You two coming?"

Behrad glanced over at her, as if waiting for her answer. 

"Sure, why not?" Spooner asked. "What's on the menu?"

"Uh, I think it's turkey burgers," Sara told them.

"Ugh," she said. "They better not be dry."

"B?" Zari asked. "Are you gonna skip out on dinner?"

"Nah, I'll come," Behrad said. "I just needed a moment."

As he followed Sara out of the lab, Zari turned to Spooner. 

"What?" she asked her.

"Nothing," Zari said. "Thanks for not ratting him out."

"I ain't a snitch." Spooner put her gun back in its holster. "Besides, y'all can be a lot. I don't blame him for hiding out."

"Yeah, I realized I forgot to tell them not to bombard him right as him and the other B were swapping places."

"How long do you think it is until they let up?" she asked.

Zari gave her a serious look. "Oh, never. They pride themselves on making anyone who comes onto this ship their best friend. They just think they'll wear him down eventually."

With a grin, Spooner started off out of the lab. "Right." 

The rest of the Legends would be lucky if he ever stepped foot back on this ship again. But at least she'd accidentally won him over, without even trying.

okay i know i promised to share my thoughts on the tarazi family drama in legends of tomorrow 5.03 in another post but i’m not sure what to say about it tbh just bc we only get a little bit of it in this episode. that’s not a complaint though, i really love what we do get and it’s awesome to see zari & behrad’s parents. also it was neat how the family was speaking with each other in their native language, I assumed it was arabic? but i could be wrong. i don’t know it’s sort of fun how they’re like a wealthy immigrant family now since before the retcon they had suffered so much. i bet they’re unbearable at dinner parties.

so lovely to see this new zari 🥰 really fun how tala ashe plays her as very different from original zari, like with a higher pitched voice and an arrogance. there’s something darkly funny about how pre-retcon zari was trying to find a way to change the future for the better, and post-retcon zari’s version of that is being a social media influencer. she does reach people and inspire them in a way, but it’s all for her own financial benefit. i guess that’s a cynical way of looking at it, but i think that’s maybe the point. i love that we see that this zari is in a lot of ways just as lonely and isolated as pre-retcon zari, even though she has her family and millions of social media followers.

the sibling dynamic between behrad and zari makes me so happy. i think it’s about time this show had a sibling dynamic, it is so much fun. it’s great seeing behrad so annoyed by zari hitting on nate. i think this family dinner storyline is a good way for us to get to know a little more about behrad and what his deal is. and i do like his friendship with nate even tho i don’t care much for nate or his romance with zari. LOVED zari being weirded out by nate. i like that she’s just as clever and sarcastic as the zari we knew.

ummm i’m looking forward to seeing how both behrad and zari process the revelation of the retcon when that eventually comes to light. i think there’s some really interesting character growth that could happen with zari once she finds out the truth of who she was and what that version of her did. also i like that her phone case has a dragon sticker on the back :)

Yes absolutely agree the Tarazi siblings are really great characters on DC's Legends of Tomorrow. I wrote a post about them here:

Sad to hear about Legends being cancelled.

I hope with more shows like Ms Marvel on Disney Plus that we can now start to see more Muslim character rep for the good guys, and do away with bad tropes/stereotypes in the media.

So far, the Muslim good guys with beards rep has been great in Ms Marvel too. Love to see it!
