more info, via a couple of reviews:
"Is this the best, most exhilarating, most close-to-perpetual dancing ever to grace the Goodspeed Opera House stage?
It certainly could be.
The new stage adaptation of “Summer Stock” at the East Haddam theater has plenty to recommend it in terms of the canny script and the hummable songs. But it’s the dancing that leaves the biggest impression.
The show is jam-packed with choreography from Donna Feore, who also directs, that is thrillingly executed by the cast.
We’re talking: Gravity-defying kicks. Head-spinning turns. Male dancers lifting and tossing and catching the female ones. It runs the gamut from Cossack-dance athleticism to soft shoe grace, tap precision to Lindy hop energy.
How the cast manages to sing after executing these (literally) breathtaking numbers, I have no idea.
And how do they make it through two performances on some days? Amazing.
Also amazing: the fact that they do all this on Goodspeed’s small stage without making the space feel cramped.
So, yes, the dancing is phenomenal. But there’s more to the show than that.
This stage version of “Summer Stock” — which is enjoying its world premiere at Goodspeed — is inspired by the 1950 MGM movie starring Judy Garland and Gene Kelly. Writer Cheri Steinkellner, though, has reimagined the piece in many ways, making it better, stronger and propelled by a more modern sensibility. (Steinkellner’s writing credits range from “Cheers” to the Broadway adaptation of “Sister Act.”)
The foundational story, though, remains the same: A no-nonsense young woman named Jane is trying to save her family farm. Her actress sister (named Gloria in the version at Goodspeed) brings her compatriots to the farm to rehearse a show. Jane first spars with and then starts falling for Gloria’s beau Joe, the production’s director.
Steinkellner has also changed up the score, to great effect. While some tunes from the movie remain, she has pulled others that are in the public domain (such as “Accentuate the Positive,” “Paper Moon” and “It Had to Be You”), and she has woven them perfectly into various plot points and important emotional moments.
As director, Feore makes sure the whole enterprise has a dynamic spirit. It’s a story and a production that brims with optimism and cheerfulness.
Leading the cast is Corbin Bleu, who became famous with his work in “High School Musical” and has gone on to star in several Broadway shows, as Joe. Bleu is a true, and truly talented, triple-threat. He has a warm, welcoming presence as an actor; he also brings an authority to Joe so you believe he’s someone the actors respect and will follow. Bleu’s singing is strong and lustrous, and his dancing — particularly his tremendous tap ability — is … wow.
Arguably the biggest scene-stealer here is Veanne Cox, as the wealthy, snooty owner of huge property surrounding Jane’s. The way she trills dialogue can turn anything into a punchline. She can wave her arms about as her character repeats “l’amour” and generate audience laughs. When her character falls for the egoistic actor Montgomery Leach (played by J. Anthony Crane with Barrymore flair), Cox burbles with girlish romantic giddiness.
Danielle Wade does her own take on the Judy Garland role. She gives Jane a swagger and a tough façade that reveals a more human self during the course of the story. Wade’s most important feature is her voice, which is potent whether she’s finessing a ballad or powering through a big number. While she can’t compete with Garland’s renowned version of “Get Happy” (who could?), Wade does a good job in the number — choreographed and costumed in an homage to the original — that serves as the culmination of the production.
Arianna Rosario gets to play an interesting arc at Gloria. At first, Gloria seems to be a blithe, self-centered actress, but she later shows that she is quite the problem-solving producer. Rosario makes the transformation believable, as if Gloria is finally letting her real self come through.
The scenic design by Wilson Chin suggests the various elements of a Connecticut River Valley farm in the 1950s while still allowing room for the cast to burst into all of those big dance numbers. And the costume design by Tina McCartney provides a fun and functional take on country clothing of the era.
I will say that the second act could be tightened up (we don’t need to see so many beats of the rehearsal process), but, in total, this “Summer Stock” is sensational." [source]
(hooray for most directly explaining gloria's overall arc)
and the next review:
"A throwback to the golden age of Broadway and movie musicals, "Summer Stock" is a timeless, inspiring song-and-dance tale of good deeds, fairy tale showbiz, classic romance and backstage intrigue played out to such dazzling effect, you want to freeze frame it, take it home with you and watch it over and over again for pure fun and a let's-put-a-smile-on-your-face endorsement. This is Goodspeed Musicals at its best - old-fashioned musical entertainment designed to deliver by the bucket's load, stir the senses, rhythmically intoxicate you and dance up a continual storm of good cheer that's guaranteed to leave you breathless.
Animated. Airborne. Magical. Sweet-natured. Fresh-faced. Dance happy. It's all here, wrapped up in shiny gold ribbons and signature colors that complement and complete the picture with a technicolor flourish, a big bang and an internal logic that flows with appropriate style, stamina, full command and intent.
Adapted to the stage by Cheri Steinkellner, "Summer Stock" replays that popular let's- put-on-a-show conceit where everything rests of the big opening night, the box-office intake, the big kiss between the leading man and the leading lady and how a complete unknown saves the day right before the final fadeout. Here, struggling Connecticut farmer Jane Falbury decides to let her actress sister Abigail and her actor friends from New York use the family barn as a rehearsal space for their brand-new Broadway bound musical in exchange for doing the daily farm chores to raise enough money to keep the business from going completely under. One slight problem. During rehearsals, Jane finds herself falling for the show's handsome director, Joe Ross, who, happens to be engaged to the show's leading lady - her sister Abigail.
Staging "Summer Stock," director Donna Feore ("Chicago," "Billy Elliot," "A Chorus Line"), who doubles as choreographer, creates a loveable, intoxicating show that reels you in, grabs hold of you until the final curtain and lets you fall in love with every little detail, surprise, plot twist, joke, visual gag, one-liner and tilt of her jolly agenda while she articulates every element of this musical story with thrust, warmth, spin and splendid articulation. Directorially, she pulls it off spectacularly. No wrong moves here as "Summer Stock" catches fire with a spark, a gusto, a shine and a 1950s mentality infused with plenty of imagination, originality, style and flair.  More importantly, the production never loses sight of its origins, its functional plotting and its love of musicals of yesteryear despite well-intentioned doses of kitsch, takeaway humor, giddy backchat and story arcs right out of the MGM library of backlot moviemaking.  Feore, free spirit that she is, fuels the musical with a sharpened wit and sentiment that works especially well as does her decision to let "Summer Stock" remain rooted in the period from whence it came in terms of staging, development, expression and interaction.
Moving from screen to stage," "Summer Stock" retains only four songs from the 1950 MGM musical. The addition of several new songs to the original version of the score turns the two-act musical into more of a showstopping event and adds clarity, luster and vintage spin to its already proven material, its let's launch into another song and dance routine blueprint and its firm grasp on characterization, story evolution and its happily ever after conclusion. At Goodspeed, there are 28 important, recognizable, smartly placed musical numbers. They are:  "Get Happy," "Happy Days Are Here Again/I Want to Be Happy," "Accentuate the Positive," "I'm Always Chasing Rainbows," "Always," "Always (reprise)," "It's Only a Paper Moon," "The Best Things in Life Are Free," "Dig for Your Dinner," "Me and My Shadow," "Howdy Neighbor, Happy Harvest," "Red Hot Mama," " 'Til We Meet Again," "You Wonderful You," "June Night," "Some of These Days," "Joe's Dance," "I'm Always Chasing Rainbows (reprise)," "It All Depends on You," "Always (reprise)," "Everybody Step," "Lucky Day," "How Ya Gonna Keep 'Em Down on the Farm," "Hinky-Dinky Parlez Vouz," "It Had to Be You," "Get Happy (reprise)" and "You Wonderful You (Finale)."
Musical director Adam Souza ("42nd Street," "Cabaret," "Next to Normal," "A Grand Night for Singing," "Because of Winn Dixie," "Rags") grabs hold of the "Summer Stock" score and allows it to breathe, gesticulate, excite, envelop and rhapsodize with the golden age sentimentality of MGM movie musicals and the timeless, larger-than-life spirit of old Broadway. Here, every song matters. Every song is important. Every song travels down memory lane. Every song is tuned to the max with sweet, centered, warm-heartedness. Every song fulfills its intended purpose. All of this is complemented by the strong, flavorful sound of Souza's orchestral team, all of whom share his tremendous sense of theatricality, musical interlude, impassioned communication and delight of the actual musical itself.  They are: David Uhl (bass), Sal Ranniello (percussion), Liz Baker Smith (reed 1), Andrew Studenski (reed II), Travis Higgins III (trumpet) and Matthew Russo (trombone). As with other Goodspeed musicals, Souza doubles as conductor and keyboardist. As "Summer Stock" zings and pops, pretty music every song unfolds with a contagious orchestral musical glow, matched by the splendid musicality of the entire cast who address the catchy, homespun music and lyrics with perfect harmony, rhythm, phrasing and nostalgic commitment. These elements heighten the on-stage mode of the production, its progression from Act I to Act II, its send offs, its pastiche and its electrifying, barn-raising influence and thwack.
As with any big stage musical, choreography is key to a production's success, its fluidity of form, its artistic expression and its accompanying dance routines. Here, Feore, as choreographer, gives "Summer Stock" a highly personal touch of invigoration and speedy excitement that is tipped and generated with wonderfully elongated inspiration, stamina and determination. This is star quality choreography that peaks, shines and tilts with clever build ups, catchy dance steps and bold, concentrated rhythms, moves and beats that joyfully celebrate 1950's musicals in all their technicolor glory.   As storyteller and dance interpreter, she brings great dimension and scope to the piece using techniques, styles, descriptions and an enriched canvas of thoughts and ideas that make their mark most engagingly. Everything that happens on the Goodspeed Musicals stage has been beautifully blocked, rehearsed and staged with such thrust and individuality, no two dance numbers are alike. In fact, once "Summer Stock" catches fire, there's no stopping it.  Creating a freshly minted fusion of moods, tableaus, lifts, twirls and swirls, Feore pays homage to the actual vintage look and mindset of the musical, its dance-friendly art form and its free-flowing feel of excitement and exhilaration. Hands pop. Arms move heavenward. Dancers smile and glisten as they passionately ignite into joyful visions of sweetness, passion, frenzy and syncopation. Everyone is lost in the moment illustrating the traditions, the conscience and the power of musical theatre, giving and getting the most out of Feore's phenomenal, ovation-worthy choreography. Trained, drilled and confident, they each get a chance to shine - and shine they do - all making strong impressions that will live long in memory.
Making his Goodspeed Musicals debut, Corbin Bleu, as Joe Ross, a character originated by Gene Kelly in the 1950 film version, creates a "Wow!" song-and-dance-man factor chock full of charm, personality, self-confidence and full-beam, champagne delightness that astounds, cajoles and sparkles with leading man gait and luxury like no other. No matter what he does, he's a proverbial triple-threat (i.e., a player who excels at acting, singing and dancing) who makes everything that happens on stage feel fresh, spontaneous, real, raw and very much in the moment. It's in his eyes. It's in his moves. It's in his expressions. Exhibiting a sweet, contagious rapport that extends far beyond the footlights, it's the performance of the year and one that Bleu exudes with a Gene Kelly/Fred Astaire aura of showbiz savvy, knockabout whimsy, graceful athleticism and sterling encapsulation. "Joe's Dance," a solo dance number in Act II performed by Bleu only furthers that notion.
In the role of Jane Falbury, a role made famous by Judy Garland in the original "Summer Stock" MGM musical, Danielle Wade lights up the Goodspeed Musicals stage with a breezy, intuitive musical comedy performance of real warmth and spirit that is a constant joy to watch. Veanne Cox, cast in the role of the wickedly devious Connecticut farming magnate Margaret Wingate, is jaw-dropping brilliant, using humor, music, dance and melodrama in divinely daft and glorious ways that prompt applause and laughter whenever she's in the limelight. It's a scene-stealing performance so seamlessly entrenched in glee and fiery abandon, Cox, would be the ideal choice to play narcissistic Broadway diva Dee Dee Allen in the 2024 summer presentation of "The Prom" at Playhouse in Park in West Hartford. I'll personally deliver the contract. Other memorable performances are delivered by Arianna Rosario (Gloria Falbury), Stephen Lee Anderson (Henry "Pop" Falbury), Gilbert L. Bailey II (Phil Filmore), Will Roland (Orville Wingate) and J. Anthony Crane (Montgomery Leach). A musical escape brimming with delightful songs, engaging performances and full-beam dance numbers, "Summer Stock" is not only a bubbly tonic for theatergoers of all ages, but one that kicks nostalgia into high gear with uncomplicated bliss, fizz and vintage sparkle. It sings. It dances. It pops. It dazzles. Like "42nd Street" which played Goodspeed Musicals last season, it overflows with Kelly/Astaire lightness, punch and precision, sunny vibes and well-played exactitude. The energy displayed here is fast and furious with first-night exhilaration and thrill paired especially well with Corbin Bleu's charming star turn, Danielle Wade's joyous "Get Happy" abandon and Veanne Cox's well-prepped, icy cool villain. This is musical theatre of the highest order - infectious, irresistible, glorious. Its leave-your-troubles-at-the-door/Let's-put-on-a-show mentality accelerates with sparkle and cherry pie goodness. And boy, do we need it now!" [source]
(the reference to jane's sister abigail uses the film's names: abigail becomes gloria in this production, which is the name of abigail's actor in the film, which also mirrors how the role of herb is now phil, also the name of herb's actor in the film)
(also shoutout to providing A Full, Chronological List Of Songs. noting that according to another interview, intermission would be between "you wonderful you" and "june night")

Hey! :) You’ve got a pretty smile.  How’s your week going?
Tinder has quickly become part of your daily routine. At night, you fall asleep swiping. In the morning, you catch up on new messages as you pour a cup of coffee.
The man—a gorgeous man—behind the latest message stirs your sleepy mind wide awake.
A handsome face with an equally handsome smile, a jaw framed with a dusting of scruff that adds a rugged touch to his refined beauty.
Jean’s a year older than you are, works in property management, loves to travel, and he’s open to anything. Friendships, hook-ups, long-term commitments. Vague.
Scrolling through his photos, you pause on a group picture. He towers over everyone in the frame, and you notice his height is left out of the bio, letting the pictures speak for themselves. Given the apparent stature, your imagination runs wild…
He looks great in every single picture, whether in a suit or dressed casually, Jean’s confidence is effortless through the screen. He even snuck in a shirtless photo of him by the pool, and you’re not disappointed in how he looks in those swim trunks. Good boy…
You are shooting your shot here and now.
Week has been interesting so far lol Are you a local or in town for a visit?
His response is immediate.
Local ;) Can I take you to dinner tonight?  There’s a new spot I think we should check out.
Another date. It would be a sin to say no.
7pm works best for me. Where’s this spot?
“Ohhhhh….he’s…good job…”
After sending a picture of Jean to the group chat, Pieck is at a loss for words on the phone call.
Even Ymir gives her own seal of approval. “Alright, so far, he’s more your type. Tall, classic pretty boy. Unlike that doofus from the other night.”
“Cory?” Pieck says.
You sigh, looking out the car window, the cityscape shrinking away. “Connie was not a doofus, he was fun!”
Ymir scoffs on the other line. “Whatever, this Jean dude gets points for wanting to take you on a proper date. He’s already trying to impress you, and you know what that means…” Her voice channels into a devilish tease. “He might take you to a fancy hotel, pop some bubbly, and then chase it down with…”
Being the freak that you are, your thighs clench together. You dart a look at the rearview mirror, hoping that your Uber driver hasn’t taken notice.
“We’ll see. I might not take it that far tonight.”
Laughter fills your ear. Pieck and Ymir don’t take you seriously.
“Don’t stop now,” Pieck says. “Ymir’s right, Jean looks promising. It could lead to something more.”
You frown. “I’m not looking for anything serious.”
Ymir clicks her tongue. “Keep it open-ended. If this guy wants to spoil you with dinner and fuck you, then you’ve struck Tinder gold.”
“I thought the whole point was to explore?”
“That’s exactly what you’re doing,” Pieck says. “It’s how dating works, keeping your options open and enjoying the process, regardless of outcome. Ymir and I just want you to be happy.”
Ymir pipes up in agreement. “Yeah, we’ll always support you for hookering.”
You smirk, endeared by that sentiment.
The Uber pulls to a stop, and you end the call.
Despite the traffic in the city, you’ve made it to the restaurant five minutes early. You enter through the front, taking stock of the place.
It’s a coastal spot, offering outdoor dining that overlooks the ocean on a large patio.
You watch people saunter in and out, dressed much sharper than what you’d find at the local surf-n-turf. Even the host is dressed to impress, wearing a suit as he answers a call with polished etiquette.
When Jean had sent you the restaurant info, you had given it a onceover after searching it up. From the location and seafood fare, you knew it’d be fancy, the kind of place that serves top-shelf wine and scoring a reservation is akin to winning the lottery.
And as you soak in the venue, you’re doubly impressed. This place is fancy fancy.
Jean said he made reservations for 7pm under his name, but you’re unsure if you should check in or wait for him.
There’s no need. A minute after your arrival, you catch a smooth voice uttering your name.
Spinning on your heel, you struggle to keep from grinning ear to ear.  You’ve been lucky all week and Jean’s no exception, outdoing his profile like a reverse Catfish.
Who were you kidding? Your friends were right not to take you seriously. You need to sleep with this man.  His tall frame is poise as he steps forward, a beautiful smile widening. Light brown eyes sip in your appearance. You straighten your spine, discreetly jutting your chest out to appear graceful yet fuckable.
“Hi, it’s nice to meet you in person,” he laughs, a long arm wrapping around you gently.
You lean into the hug, senses drenched with his cologne. He’s dressed for the occasion, a clean-pressed, button-down shirt in navy, a matching blazer overtop. The top button is undone. You’re shameless, stealing a glance at the skin.
His eyes do another sweep, settling on your chest for a few seconds before snapping up to meet your eyes. “You look beautiful.”
“Thank you,” you say, coquettish as he extends his arm for you to take.
Together, you approach the host.
“Kirstein at seven,” Jean supplies.
A quick review from the host behind the counter and he smiles, grabbing menus. “This way.” Leading you both out to the patio for your table, he turns around. “Ever been to an oyster bar before?”
Jean gestures to you.
“First time.”
The host stops at a table near the center, a comfortable distance from the glass railing to take in the ocean view, but far enough that you won’t be freezing all night.
Jean pulls your chair out, taking his seat afterwards. The host briefs you two on the menu, and after explaining the wine selection, Jean orders a bottle for the table.
“The blue suits you,” you say, nodding. Under the glow of the string lights and heat-lamps, you can’t stop ogling him. “On theme for the evening.”
Jean unrolls the silverware from the cloth napkin, giving you a cheeky look. “Thank you. Glad you were free tonight. I know it’s kind of last minute, so I appreciate the flexibility. Didn’t want to miss out on a chance to see you.”
“How could I say no?” You bat your lashes. “Trying to be more spontaneous these days.”
Jean huffs an amused breath. “I can relate. It’s healthy to be spontaneous sometimes, breaks us out of routine.”
You hum in agreement. That’s something you’re quickly learning.
A waiter arrives, presenting the wine bottle Jean had ordered with the host. A white wine variety that that pairs well with shellfish. Neither of you waste too much time deciding on the menu, placing an order for their popular oysters. And the waiter disappears.
Jean reaches over, pouring wine into your glass. “Can I ask what brought you to Tinder?”
You lean your chin into your laced fingers, shrugging. “It was my friends’ idea. ‘You’re single, you should be out there exploring’.”
“A little peer-pressure is harmless,” Jean teases. “If not for them, we wouldn’t have matched.”
You laugh faintly. “I’ll thank them later. Besides, it’s become the new norm to meet people online. That’s why you’re on it, right?”
He flashes his teeth. “Yeah, it’s not as weird anymore as it once was. My friends, colleagues, almost everyone’s hopped on it. In the end it’s no different than meeting at the DMV or at a coffee shop.”
You smile. “Like a meet-cute?”
Jeans smile crinkles the corners of his eyes. “Is that what they call it when you meet offline?”
“Rom-com lingo. Meeting someone where you’d least expect to meet. I guess it can apply online too.”
“Are you looking for anything in particular?”
Aside from casual sex, nope.
Beyond that, you don’t know. You’re in a lull, still processing how to feel about your breakup. You suppose you could just say, you’re looking for a fling, but saying that aloud seems too bold, and if you’re being honest kills the mood. Sex is most rewarding through the art of seduction.
“I like to keep things open-ended, so whatever happens, I guess I’ll figure it out later.”
Jean nods. “Same here, I like to go with the flow, see where it leads.”
From the way his eyes dance from your lips to your chest, you don’t need him to clarify his answer. It’s staring right at you, six foot three with ash brown hair that graces his nape. You want to run your hand back there, maybe yank it a little.
Jean raises his glass, meeting your eyes. “Cheers to whatever happens.”
You exchange pleasantries, getting a better feel for each other. He talks about how he got into his field of work, and you explain what your days are like working from home.
It’s tame and safe…for now.
The tray of oysters is set down at the center of the table, arranged neatly.
“Glad you’re not picky about seafood,” Jean says.
“I like most but never had oysters. They don’t look as intimidating as I thought they’d be.”
Jean squeezes a lemon wedge over the spread. “I think you’ll like them.”
“I’ve heard it takes a special kind of palate to enjoy them.” You tilt your head, and his smile understands that you’re not talking about the shellfish.
“The texture takes some getting used to. But they’re a superfood. They’ve got protein, antioxidants, they boost energy.”
There’s a pause, a bold shift passing across the table.
“And a stimulant,” Jean finishes.
You hold Jean’s stare for a moment, reading where the line of small talk blurs. It’s a tempting lure, and you take the bait. “An aphrodisiac.”
There’s a glint in his eyes that reaches his pearly whites. “Exactly.”
You shiver, goosebumps coating your skin.
Jean looks to the plate of oysters, reaching for one. You do the same, tipping the shell up without breaking eye contact as the flesh disappears behind your lips.
The texture is a little off-putting, but you chew it enough to assess the briny taste. You swallow, puckering your mouth, reaching for your glass.
You wash the oyster down with white wine and sigh.
Jean’s stare flicks to your wine glass. “You got lipstick on it.”
You spare the glass a look, arching a brow. A distinct nude imprint is stained on the rim like a delicate kiss.
The corner of your mouth curls. “Guess that means I’ll have to redo it. It’s my favorite shade, but it’s not long-lasting. Rubs off too easily.”
“That right?” Jean purrs, a smirk ghosting his lips. “I thought the point of wearing lipstick was for it to get ruined.”
The brisk ocean air turns humid, leaving you breathless and setting your pulse aflame. You look forward to seeing where the night takes you.
A few more helpings of oysters (and a little more wine) later, the flirtatious back and forth darken to vulgar language whispered across the table and shameless eye-fucking.
“I want to feel you squeeze around my cock,” Jean intones, low and gravelly, and meant for your ears only.
You bite your lip, imagining how hard Jean must be right now. You shift in your seat, crossing your legs tighter under the table, but that doesn’t help at all. You’re so horny you want to crawl across and devour him.
The waiter returns, you and Jean doing your best to tone it down.
“Another bottle of wine for the table?”
“No, we’re fine, thank you,” Jean says, smooth like silk as if he wasn’t dirty-talking you just seconds ago.
“Can I get you two anything else?”
Beneath the table, you drag your foot up Jean’s leg, looking at the waiter with an innocent smile. Subtly, you bring the tip of your heel to nudge Jean’s muscled thigh. It’s subtle and secretive and gets the exact response you want from Jean.
He masks the hitch in his throat as a chuckle.
You can tell he’s losing his patience, unable to resist the crackling tension. His equilibrium hangs by a thread.
He addresses the waiter with an even tone, but you’re not deaf to the whisper of urgency behind his words.
“Just the bill.”
Jean white-knuckles the drive to his place. His other hand rests on your thigh, pressing his fingers into the flesh. Unable to control yourself, you take his hand to stroke along your face.
He flicks a glance from the road, caressing his thumb across your lip. You nibble his thumb, smiling around it when Jean groans.
It’s cute how riled up he’s gotten, and you can’t deny how much it turns you on.
You suck on his thumb, whirling your tongue around it. “Do you like this, Jean?”
Eyes trained on the road, Jean can only manage a strained hum. “Mhmm—”
It’s a rhetorical question, because you already know, and before you realize it, he’s pulled into a parking structure and kills the engine.
Jean all but grabs you from the car and tugs you up the elevator to his apartment. He bites back a displeased grunt, sliding his arm from your waist upon seeing a few people inside.
The other tenants give you both a brief onceover and turn away as they read the room, fraught with so much sexual tension.
Reaching the fifth floor, Jean’s hand squeezes yours as he politely excuses you both, wishing the other tenants a good night behind a strained smile.
It’s a short walk to his door. Jean’s keys scratch at the keyhole a few times, distracted to get it open. It’s not his fault your hands roam around his torso, mapping out the taut muscles beneath his shirt.
The door clicks open, and Jean drags you inside, whirling around.
Your back hits a wall, mouth seized in a fiery kiss. Reaching for his shirtfront you pry it open, popping a few buttons. Your fingers graze lines of chiseled muscle, fingers brushing against his nipples as you help him slide the shirt off.
Jean hisses into your mouth, taking hold of your thighs to lift you up. He’s on the move, deepening the kiss, kicking a different door open.
You land on your feet, and with enough willpower, you pull away for air. “Jean…”
Light brown eyes gloss over your face, rich like scotch. He’s so much bigger than you, can easily pick you up again and toss you to the bed. It’s an enthralling idea until a different thought crosses your mind.
“Jean.”
He hums against your pulse, peppering that spot with a few more kisses before he resurfaces. Anticipation hangs over the edge of his smile, eager for you to give him a signal.
You make a bold request. “Get on your knees.”
Surprise flickers along Jean’s brows, stretching to his hairline. But it’s replaced with brightened excitement. He kisses your cheek, then drops to floor, peering up at you, a dog waiting for a bone.
Despite the current dynamics, you feel a little timid then, wondering how far you can go with this.
Jean’s eyes flutter shut, melting at the feel of your nails carding through his hair.
“Does that feel good?” you ask in earnest.
Jean nods heavily, looking up with a lidded gaze. “Yes…”
You catch the slow bob of his Adam’s apple, and you lick your lips. “What about this?” You’re still testing the waters, reaching for the back of his skull. You tug his hair, pulling his head back.
“Yes…”
Shit. Jean’s so quick to yield to your touch, it makes your pussy throb.
Hiking up your dress, you throw a leg over his shoulder.
Jean’s eyes drown in the lace of your panties. “So fucking pretty…” he husks. He grabs onto your thigh, kissing your pussy through the fabric.
You moan, rewarding Jean with another comb through his hair. Nails dig a little deeper, again testing both his and your limits.
He sighs in bliss, pulling you closer to bury his face against your panties, kissing your clit, you nearly falter.
Jean’s mouth opens to slot over your pussy, licking the thin fabric for a taste of the slick that’s soaked through.
“Yes…just like that…” Your fingers massage Jean’s scalp, a command to continue.
“You taste phenomenal. I’ve been dying to have you like this all night.”
Moans float from your mouth and cascade to the floor; you can’t stop yourself from bucking your hips to match the rhythm of Jean’s mouth.
He pushes back, though his lips linger above your waistband, fingers hooking into the sides.
Your hand moves from his scalp to stroke his face, restoring his gaze.
He’s a man enchanted, face flushed, and pupils dilated. He’s absolutely pussy-drunk.
You thumb his swollen lips, stained with your lipstick. His mouth opens a little wider with a hunger that gnaws at your stomach.
You tug on his lower lip. “Use this.” You drop your hand, sliding your leg from his shoulder.
Jean’s quick to understand. He grabs your hips, fingers reaching to grope your ass as he takes the side of your underwear in his teeth. He drags it down, switching to the other side to do the same, eyes going skywards to ensure that he has your full attention.
It takes some time, but you’re grateful that Jean’s hasty. Any longer and you would have asked him to rip the lace. When they reach your knees, you and Jean lack any more patience. He pulls them off in one fell swoop of his hands.
Your leg comes astride his shoulder again, a sharp breath digging deep in your chest, fixating on the view below.
Jean’s eyes reach yours, his breath hot and humid against your pussy. “I’m gonna devour you.”
And he’s all in, tongue thrusting into you, nose nudging your clit.
You whimper, grabbing onto Jean’s hair for leverage, savoring the feel of his mouth. You’re so sensitive, already so close to the edge. Your body moves on its own, hips bucking to grind against Jean’s face.
He eats you out with desperation, hungry to please, as though he’s been waiting for this moment all night long. His fingers press into your hips, a beautiful, bruising pain.
He doesn’t stop to pull for air, nor does he resist your hand guiding him for deeper contact. It’s like there’s nowhere he’d rather be.
Gasps burst out of your mouth, aware of nothing else but Jean between your legs. Your mind is close to slipping away, but as you toe the edge of ecstasy, you release Jean’s hair to tap him urgently on the shoulder.
He draws away, slack-jawed, threads of drool and slick breaking apart.
“Bed,” you breathe. “On your back. I want to ride you.”
With that incentive, Jean’s on his feet one second, and plopped onto his bed the next. He’s so tall, he takes up most of the space. That doesn’t matter, however, as you crawl on top of him, taking his wrists and bounding them at the sides.
You inch closer to his face. Jean lifts his head to meet your lips. The kiss is hungrier than ever, and at the feel of Jean’s bulge between your legs, it’s clear that you both have starved long enough.
Pushing back, you slide off, searching the floor.
You swipe up your clutch, tossing it away a second later to flash the wrapped condom, ready to tear it open.
Jean props himself on his elbows, shaking his head. “It won’t fit.”
Your brain lags, at first, but lowering your gaze at Jean’s crotch, it dawns on you. Your finger hooks into the waistband of his underwear, drooling at the impossible to ignore outline of his cock.
Jean grabs something from the drawer of his nightstand. “Here.”
He hands you another condom—a more sizeable one.
You blink, taking it, and drag his boxers away.
Jean’s cock springs up, slapping your wrist.
It’s…big.
You stare, mouth agape, unsure if you want to suck him off or ride him.
“It’s waiting on you,” Jean rasps.
You look up to meet his smile, more humble than smug. He grabs hold of his cock, stroking along the skin, rubbing past the thick vein plunging down the base.
He takes your hand gently, guiding you to stroke him.
When he lets go, you’re stunned with how fucking heavy it is, mind spinning with how much it’ll stretch you out.
Not wasting anymore time, you tug on his boxers and pants. He lifts up, pushing them down to assist and he’s naked underneath you.
After sliding the condom on, you straddle his lap, ripping your dress off, giving Jean a moment to play with your tits and appraise your body.
“Stunning…” he purrs, the word scrapes against his throat.
“I’m going to ride you now Jean.”
He nods, hands on your hips. “Please do.”
You brace yourself with a deep inhale, still in awe as to how all this will fit inside you. Regardless, with the help of Jean’s large hands, you lift up, biting your lip as you slowly sink onto his cock.
The stretch is immediate, tender, and intoxicating. Still, you’re careful, taking your time, relishing in the feel of your pussy sucking him in, bit by bit.
You catch Jean watching his cock disappear inside of you, his mouth hanging open.
Sinking further, you gasp, already so full before you’ve taken all of him. It’s like time came to a still just for you to embrace the moment he’s fully sheathed inside of you.
Jean waits for a signal, patience stuttering from the twitch of his dick. He’s traveled so far into a trance, the only way for you to reach him is to move.
It’s a tentative start, a roll of your hips to ensure you still feel comfortable.
Jean hisses, squeezing your hips. A muscle ticks in his jaw and your pussy spasms. You’re done being cautious.
You lean forward, splaying your hands across his toned chest for support and bounce on his cock.
Jean lets out a choked moan.
You ride him, moving up and down, gasping from the stretch and slide of his dick against your walls. The momentum builds as your hips move faster.
Your thighs ache, and you fight against it. But your muscles cramp up for a bit, forcing your hands to slide forward from Jean’s chest to his shoulders.
His hands leave your hips, taking your wrists.
Your pace dials down, blinking in surprise when he wraps your hands around his neck.
“Make it tighter,” comes Jean’s ragged breath.
You apply pressure, stunned to feel the beating of his pulse quicken. You try to pull back, but Jean presses his hands over yours.
“A little harder.”
A low groan slips past Jean’s mouth, his Adam’s apple rolling against your palm. He gives you a delirious smile that curls down your spine.
He’s at your mercy. He wants to be at your mercy, and it ignites a new flame inside of you.
With a firm grasp on his neck, your tongue dives into his mouth.
“Touch me,” you say against his lips, building up speed again.
Jean’s thumb finds your clit, swallowing hard when you moan.
You don’t mean to squeeze harder, but Jean’s dick jolts anyway.
The momentum triples, your pussy tightens around Jean, and with another look at him—hooded eyes and gaping mouth—you cum, pleasure pulsating through every nerve.
Your orgasm loosens your hold on Jean’s neck, but you continue to ride it out, despite the trembling thighs.
Jean takes care of the rest, taking your hips to thrust into you, cock twitching and a satisfied moan echoing in your ears.
Your movements become meager, thighs cramped, energy drained. Jean’s cock softens, you fall to his chest, wiggling off his lap. He’s so big, your pussy feels hollow without it.
Jean heaves a deep breath, an arm snaking around your back. He reaches behind you to slip off the condom and tosses it aside.
Time moves again, your breathing evens out, head clearing that you’ve become aware of Jean’s fingers trailing up and down your spine.
You look up, exchanging a tired smile with his. “You like getting choked?”
His smile broadens, a blush paints his face. “Sometimes. I like it when a woman takes the reins.”
You huff a tired laugh, replaying the image of Jean moaning with your hands wrapped around his throat. You’re all for equal share in the bedroom, but sometimes a part of you burned to take the lead. Though you don’t mind the opposite either.
“And other times,” Jean continues, stroking up your back until his fingers tangle into your hair. It’s a gentle pull, though firm enough to drive his next point with a devilish look. “I like to have total control.”
A new fantasy pricks your mind, a visual of Jean standing before you with you on your knees. You swallow that thought for now, remembering Ymir’s words.
“Keep it open-ended.”

How do you draw backgrounds?? It always looks so good. And how long does it take you
Hey thanks! Sometimes I kinda just yolo it and do whatever kind of makes sense (especially if it's a comic, impressionistic strokes can get the job done pretty well since ppl are mostly gonna be concerned about what the little people in front of them are up to). In these kinds of bgs I try to spend no more than 10-20 minutes on them (much easier if it's a place I've already drawn or designed before).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If I'm tryharding it or have to design a place I just get a big pile of references from google earth, Pinterest, irl, other artists (for ideas on palettes + how to translate certain forms + structures into a drawing), etc. and collage it in my brain. I only really draw real life places that are usually accessible to me so I don't have to work as hard as fantasy/sci fi artists lol. This bg is based off of this stock photo and took me a couple days.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think the most difficult thing about backgrounds in a style like mine is controlling the values to make the right parts pop out but still feel realistic, so it involves a lot flipping back and forth between grayscale to figure out what to do sometimes. But yeah! Don't have much else to say on bg's other than yolo more than you tryhard (or don't. Idk. Do what feels right!! Live your truth!!)

I was binge watching (again) @ssavaart 's hair journal paintings, and thought I wanted to try my own, but with this mermaid!! I found a really nice reference and tried not to copy Scott's style too much lol. Here it is!! Might watercolor it Monday.
Tumblr media
Oh yeah scott if you see this, hi :D and also how do you get your pages to stick together? Mine ripped off the sketchbook while I was drawing.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Gojo left for a business trip almost two weeks ago. Even if he wanted he couldn’t bring you with him. “It could be dangerous, darling.” he said. After you were kidnapped he went feral and tried to avoid any situation that seemed even a tiny bit dubious.
You missed him terribly, your body also missed him way too much. The longing, the yearning you felt was becoming unbearable.
“Only one more night and he’s home.” you murmured under your nose, while walking back and forth in the living room in only a turquoise silky robe.
Meanwhile your phone buzzed at the coffee table. The expression on your face changed in a split second as you opened the text from Satoru.
“I’m sorry love. It will take a bit longer. But I’ll be home soon, I swear. Probably at the end of this week.”
“End of the week?” your eyes widened. “No fucking way. I can’t wait for that long, I can’t. I want him so bad.” you closed your eyes, trying to calm down. Throwing a tantrum was childish and ridiculous and you knew that, but you couldn’t help it. Gojo’s body was a drug to you. His muscled back, those perfectly built abs, his round bum and his huge biceps, even thinking about it made you drool. You were horny and upset, so you wanted revenge. As you stormed into your closet your eyes were eagerly looking for that specific set of lingerie. The one, which always drove Gojo wild.
An evil smirk appeared on your face as you slowly put on the black lace babydoll with matching panties and stockings. It followed all the curves of your body, fitted just perfectly. The lace palmed your breast teasingly, creating an illusion of showing everything, yet nothing.
“I miss you terribly, baby. Are you sure you can’t come home earlier?” you sent the text to him. Just right after you attached a photo of you posing in the lingerie for him.
Not even a minute passed, when your phone started to ring. Gojo called you and you were more than happy to pick it up. Only if you would have known better…
“You were a naughty girl.” Gojo’s raspy voice echoed through the device. “Sending a picture like this, when you know I can’t touch you. Tch, Tch… do you remember what I said last time? When you were teasing me way past my limits? When I was begging you to stop, but you didn’t?” he took a deep breath before continuing. “Next time you tease me I’m going to punish you and you can’t do anything, but obey. Do you remember, love?”
“I can’t help it.” you whined “I miss you so much! You should reward me instead of any kind of punishment.” Your cheeky answer made him smirk.
“Do you love it when I obey, yeah? Even the thought of me letting you overpower me makes you wet. I know that, darling.” he clicked his tongue. “What if tonight I show you how it feels when you obey? Will you be a good girl for me and do as I say?”
“Mmhm…” That was all you were able to press out from yourself. Gojo’s dominant side drove you insane every single time and you were eager to be a part of his game.
“Good. Good.” his low tone sent shivers down your spine. “Walk to our bedroom, yeah? And lay on the bed with your back pressing against the headboard. Then all you have to do is close your eyes and listen to my voice. If you’re a good girl tonight then I’m going to show you how good it feels to be mine.”
“Fuck, baby. That’s so hot. Please keep talking.” you bit your bottom lip as you climbed on the bed as he said.
“It depends on you, sweetheart. If you do exactly as I say, I’ll keep going.” he smirked, while taking a desperate breath. He was truly getting in the mood as well. He licked his lips before continuing. “There’s one rule, though.”
“What rule?”
“If you touch yourself I’ll stop and everything will end.”
“Huh? Baby, that’s mean! That’s so mean.” you argued. Your body was already in heat and keeping yourself from any kind of touch seemed impossible.
“Do you understand the rule?” His cold, strict voice showed how serious he was. Hearing a whispered yes from you made him smile, because he knew you were going to be obedient this time. “Good girl! Now imagine that I’m growing harder and harder for you. Because you look amazingly beautiful in that lingerie. I love the way it follows your body, I love the way your breasts spill from your bra and your nipples peek through the lace.”
Gojo cleared his throat the second he heard your panting, your desperate breaths. “Honey, you sound so weak now.” he teased. “You see? No matter what, in the end I’m able to put you in your place, right?” he chuckled with so much sass in his voice.
“Please, don’t be mean to me! Please!” you let out a desperate little moan.
“Nah-ah… Are you trying to tempt me with your moaning? It’s not going to work. I’m sorry, darling, but no matter what I’m not going to give in. You’re not going to break me this time, so keep your hands away from your sweet little pussy and enjoy the abstinence.” he hummed. “Now imagine me sitting behind you. As I slide my huge palms, which you love so much, up and down your thighs, your tummy. As I kiss your neck and bite it to mark you as mine.”
You kept silent, while biting your bottom lip so hard it started to hurt. You wanted to be nothing but a good girl for him.
“Can I at least touch my boobs?” your desperate voice made his body tense. He wanted you just as much as you wanted him. The torture was real this time.
“You’re such a good girl for asking, but you know the rule. No touching, just listening.” Hearing your offended huff caused him to giggle. “I’m going to be honest with you, I’m getting harder and harder, because I remember how much you love my dick. Do you love it, yeah? That’s why you are always so eager to jerk me off and suck me whenever you have the opportunity. Say you love it!”
“I love it, ‘Toru!” your voice cracked “I love it a lot and I want it so bad right now!” you kept whining.
“I promise that later I’ll let you ride me. You did such a good job all along, so it’s going to be your reward. Do you want to ride me?”
“Mmhmm…” you let out the most desperate sigh ever.
“Then open your eyes baby!” he smirked as he walked into the bedroom with a massive boner in his pants.
“Satoru?” your eyes widened “You said…agh, you’re such a fucking liar!” you jumped off the bed. But he kept silent and walked up to you, grabbing your hips and pulling you into his chest.
“Are you ready to keep going?” he whispered into your ears. You felt his hot breath on your skin.
“Please.” you looked at him with huge puppy eyes.
“Good. Then get on all fours for me and take off your panties, okay? I still need to teach you a lesson, so you won’t want to tease me next time.”
At first you wanted to argue, maybe for a second, then you changed your mind and did as he said. You didn’t care anymore, you wanted to feel him as soon as possible and you were willing to obey.
The first spank felt like a sharp thunder exploding on your skin. A low hiss left your mouth, but you kept yourself together. One more slap and you felt as if your bum was becoming number and number. Two more slaps and you actually started to enjoy this weird pain mixed with the euphoria of hearing his dirty talk.
“Look at you, you are such a good girl. Bearing with all the pain like it was nothing, swallowing back your screams. I love how strong you are. I love you, my obedient little princess. I love you, my cruel mistress. Daddy’s getting really hard for you, you know.”
Gojo calling himself daddy pushed you over the edge. It was the last drop in that almost full glass anyway. “Please, let me touch you, please. I can’t take it anymore. I want to feel you!”
“Turn around.” he smirked as he climbed on the bed naked. “Come, sit on my lap.” he tapped his now bare thigh. It took only seconds for you to get on him, caging him between your thighs. “Lean closer” he whispered “and kiss me as you slide my dick inside of you. But don’t move! I’m gonna control everything for you. You were such a good girl, so I’ll take care of you.”
The kiss became more and more intense. It was sloppy, rough, it was animalistic.
“I want something from you.” Gojo broke the kiss. “I want you to say thank you for every mark I left on you.” He grabbed your hips, his fingers dug into your flash. While he started to thrust into you painfully slowly, he was waiting for your reaction. “Say, thank you daddy. C’mon, say it!”
“Thank you, daddy.” you moaned out loud as you felt his massive cock moving in and out of you.
“This is what you want, right?” he sped up a tiny bit. “And I’m doing it, because I love you.” he pounded you with even more intensity, holding you still in a rough grip. “Do you love me, baby?” his breath became uneven and heavy “Tell daddy you love him!”
“I love you, daddy. Please, go faster! Please!” you lost your sense and turned into a whining, moaning mess.
“You want me to go faster? Then you better start screaming! Show me how much you want my dick!”
His name rolled from your lips repeatedly. Unholy sounds echoed through the air as the skin to skin contact became louder second by second.
“That’s it.” he growled “That’s my good girl.” he ran his fingers through your hair and pulled your head aside. A heavy moan left your mouth as he bit into your neck, licking your skin up and down, while keeping the pace as fast as possible. “Say you love it! Nngh…Say it!” he was about to lose his control.
“I love it! Please don’t stop and fill me up. I want to feel your hot cum inside of me!” you bounced up and down on him, while talking in delirium.
“Fuck…” he hissed “Baby, I’m so close! Daddy’s gonna cum. Daddy’s gonna cum.” he mumbled under his nose as he felt he was about to reach his high. “Cum with me, please. Please. I want you to cum with me!
The second he felt your walls tightening around his shaft he couldn’t hold it back anymore. He dropped his head back and enjoyed the way you screamed his name while your orgasm bursted out as well.
Heavy panting, uneven breaths left both of your mouths as you tried to calm down. You smiled and threw your hands around his neck.
“I really love you, ‘Toru!”
“I love you more, princess!” he rested his sweaty forehead on yours.
I, a very white and somewhat privileged person, am absolutely terrified to draw colored people. Because I don’t know if I’d cross the thin line of tasteful and authentic or racist and stereotypical…
Lol for starters don't refer to us as coloured people. This ain't 1955. Secondly my best advice to you is to use references of actual people of color. I would highly recommend staying away from those white men art station youtuber type artists for tutorials because they get a majority of their techniques and style from main stream video games and comic books, which to put it nicely don't have the best reputation for representing women and poc. tangent over, so yeah references. real life photographs of brown and black people.
pinterest is a site that a lot of current, especially younger artists like to use, but in all honesty it's not a very good source for someone trying to learn the fundamentals. it'll mainly show you 20 something year old ig and twitter models which is okay if you wanna just draw pretty people; but not the best if you wanna like I said learn fundamentals + have a portfolio that's varied. also it's rife with ai shit and stolen art, so yeah would only recommend that as an initial starting point/using it to make your own personal board for your saved images.
stock photo sites are my go to for refs. getty images, istock, alamy, etc. a simple right click save image or screenshot will work to get the images you want for free. of course there will be the watermarks, but they're honestly a very small issue to bypass. as long as they're not opaque and nearly covering the entire subject; you're good. a nice thing about stock photo sites is they usually give you the option to filter the image search results. say for instance you want to draw an elderly asian woman cooking or a young black man painting a picture or an indigenous child playing with dolls. you can look up certain terms you want in the search bar & specify gender, age and ethnicity to narrow down your search to what you want.
Tumblr media
another awesome place for references i discovered during college is posespace.com
Tumblr media
like with getty images, it gives you the option to filter your searches. they also have their models in clothed or nude shoots in the event that you want to practice some bare bones anatomy.
also also, get your info from artists of color. there's a decent amount of tutorials ive found over the years on here and youtube on coloring skintones, drawing certain hair types, how to avoid caricatures and stereotyping, different facial features, cultural hairstyles. the list goes on. don't be afraid to depict people outside of your race. literally just go about drawing us the same way you would a white person. don't be scared, as long as you remain respectful and make an honest effort to learn; you'll do fine.
Holy moly a rendered drawing!? And it's Flatland!? AND it's sort of gijinka-fied?!?!?!? Crazy.
Tumblr media
Drip or drown fellas? Be honest lol.
Okay, so some design choices I wanted to point out and "explain":
A. Square does not look any different because he is peak performance. The whole thing of 2D creatures who live "water" and look like amoebas was too good to tarnish. I kept it simple, gave him some boots to help with gravitational pain n stuff on his feet, and he has glasses cuz I saw some character in the movie with them and I thought it would vibe well. He looks a little older because of them, but whatever. The nerd needs to look like a nerd.
A. Sphere I took so many liberties with. At first, I went with the most basic CEO fit I could come up with, found it boring, gave him a vest and bowtie, cut the bowtie for a normal tie and gave him rainbow suspenders, then gave him the bracelets for funsies. The most consistent thing through all the versions was the analog watch (that he probably can't read lol).
He doesn't really feel like a CEO anymore, but c'mon, in canon he's a gold sphere and the only metallic solid. He's gonna look flashy and extra. It's a given.
Tumblr media
Are you reeeally a Flatland fan if you haven't drawn or edited an image of A. Square being yeeted like a frisbee?
I feel like this is a staple, and I found this really amusing stock image that just fit so well.
Tumblr media
I made the whole Flatland species friend-shaped. As an OSC person (yes I'm working on stuff related to it give me a sec), I could not see the Flatlanders as anything more than the silly stick limbed creatures of that community.
Spacelanders are different, but that's more so because of how the book refers to them. "Spacelanders" in the book, although the context is probably just different 3D shapes, are addressed as people who have people systems who do people things. So, I designed accordingly. (Also, I did NOT want A. Sphere to look like that one Pacman TV show. I think I would have combusted before finishing if he did.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These were some doodles I worked with for just looks purposes. The tendrils(?) on their corners are the longest ones on their bodies. Circles have them all mostly uniform cuz they're boring.
Below is a close up of A. Square, some progress photos, and the reference image of meme.
Thanks again, and have a wonderful day :)
Hii!! Just wanted to ask how you get your poses on characters just flow so naturally? Is it like 2nd nature to you or does it take a really long time to get the poses right and natural? Bcs i've always struggled with that
Just wanted to ask since I really love the way you draw poses and perspective!! (Might be a weird complements but yeah sksnsksosj)
DJGGJHGIG ANON MY LOVE......YOU ARE SO SWEET
its DEF not 2nd nature lol ive been drawing for over 20 yrs now and still struggle with stiffness and line weight and foreshortening on a lot of poses. the best advice i have is to USE REFERENCES!! draw parallel to them, trace a sketch model over them to work off of, cut them up and splice them together to get closer to whats in your head, take photos of yourself, ask your discord friends with diff body types to show you their knees, etc etc etc.
@adorkastock is a FANTASTIC place to find both mundane and dynamic poses. I also recommend fatphotoref.com, publicdomainpictures.net, vishopper.com, line-of-action.com, and referenceangle.com as well as any free use stock photos.
(Protip: on image results on search engines, you can filter by creative licenses! go to the top of the results page; on google its under tools > usage rights, on qwant its under filters > any license, and on duckduckgo its in the 'all licenses' dropdown. u can choose 'creative commons' 'public domain' 'non-commercial' etc. This seems to help filter out AI results lol)
one thing that IS 2nd nature to me and i think helps put a lot of life into my drawings is that my sketch layers are very loosey goosey. when ur doing ur first sketch, dont worry about anatomy or anything, just doodle loose lines that have the shape/feel of what ur lookin for. THEN i worry about references/anatomy etc on a 2nd sketch layer, with my lower layer reminding me where to put emphasis and weight and what type of emotion/expression I was going for etc.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Its a lot harder for me to draw smth good without some kind of foundation, and a sloppy sketch layer gives me that AND lets me get out the idea quick and return to it later, while not feeling pressure to make it perfect! i tend to lose a lot of that whimsy and movement during the inking stage, which im still trying to figure out lol - but i think thats pretty universal? My example here is more cartoony so its less of an issue but you can see it a bit in the bend of the fingers and elbow.
Good luck on your drawing journey!!!! i hope this was helpful or at least interesting lmaoo
What’s your thoughts on the moral okayness for or don’ts on referencing real life photos or photo stock as reference in our art? There’s some that just reference and others just rough trace the poses and draw over that. Is there any code on what’s totally okay or not okay??? I’m still learning what’s okay to do and what’s not okay in situations of referencing. Is it a law or more like personal preference and opinion for each?? Sorry if this is a weird question🧚✨
of course it's okay! people have ALWAYS used photos as reference for drawing, there's nothing wrong with it. a ton of drawings I've made were done by referencing photos. almost every drawing I've posted in the past week was made by referencing photos. the drawing I've used as a header image for years is actually a paintover of a photo I like! I'll also regularly take photos of myself and then use them to draw poses that I'm having trouble with.
there is nuance to this discussion, of course; you could make an argument that it's wrong to paint over a photo of something you found online so you can like, sell it. cuz I'm sure there's ethics to essentially recreating another person's photo (which is a form of art as well, of course), especially if it's like a beautiful landscape and not just a simple pose, and then passing it off as your own completely original thing, especially for money. like idk for example, I would never use the paintover I'm using as my header in like, my business cards. cuz it's not my composition or colours or anything. but just using it as my header image feels fine cuz it's not really doing anything there, it just looks pretty and I like it (tho that being said it has been years at this point and I have been thinking it's time to change it out so perhaps this point will become irrelevant soon lol)
basically I don't really know where my personal line is, you just kinda gotta use your best judgment, cuz while I do believe it's possible to take it too far and overstep, people have been using photos as reference since the dawn of time and it's usually completely fine. unless the photographer in question specifically says please don't, of course
I'll be putting the explanations for a couple of these under a read-more so that those who aren't interested can skip the rest of my blathering! Feel free to ask questions if y'all like! My ask box + the replies on this post are always open :D
---
General - I wanted to make another self-indulgent prompt list this year for OC-tober so I did :3 - If you do feel like following along, remember that your health, comfort and motivation come first! Do as much as you want or as little as you want, or feel free to mix up the order or skip the prompts you don't like! - The alternate options were added because 1. I'm indecisive and 2. If a certain prompt doesn't appeal to you, then there's another choice! - I always have OCs on the brain so if you want to mention/tag me in your posts please do! I'll be responding under my main blog @complementary-oxymorons due to the interaction limitations of side blogs + wanting to keep my art blog as my personal art archive.
About the prompts - I understand that some prompts can be a bit confusing so I'll try to preemptively explain some! - Day 7: Draw over an IRL picture - For some ideas, it could be like drawing your OCs on a picture of a beach as if they're there having fun! Or maybe you could draw little chibis of your OCs sitting on your shoulder / messing with your hand while you draw :D (please do be mindful about the risks that come with uploading IRL photos though!). If you're concerned about privacy but still want to involve your "IRL self" in the piece, a possibility is to fully re-draw / trace over the reference photo you took! - Day 10: Gloves or socks - Yeah this is just me finding an excuse to draw my OCs who wear gloves or draw them in some super cute socks / stockings. Which team are you on? - Day 20 alternate: Ah Beng / Ah Lian - I thought it'd be funny because someone put it on Aesthetics Wiki (link). To those who have ah beng in ur neighbourhood just put portable speaker escooter tattoo slipper can liao also if yall know the typical ah beng spotify songs can tell me pls ok xiexie i only know 小幸运 and heng ong huat - Day 22: Song redraw - Some ideas could be redrawing your OCs on album art, or adapting them into the visuals of a song as if they're covering it! (Like how vtubers do hehe) - Day 23: Collab cafe item - Create a food or drink item that represents your OC! Some IPs (anime, games, etc.) collaborate with IRL cafes to create a themed menu which runs for a limited time only. The items on the menu tend to be references to the IP and its characters (e.g. an orange-haired character in the game gets a menu item that's an orange soda with decorative sprinkles, or a character who loves curry gets a menu item that's a special curry dish, something like that). If you're still unsure, google stuff like "collab cafe"! - Day 25: Family Feud - Feel free to redraw your favourite Family Feud clip as your OCs because there are a lot of strong contenders kekdog - Day 28: Barbenheimer - Exactly what it is! Feel free to draw your OCs dressing up to go to either movie or something. - Day 31 alternate: Guts & glory - This one's for those who prefer a more bloody Halloween :D Feel free to gore it up in any way you like. Plush, candy, flower, extra visceral... get those guts some air!!!
Could you give us reference images for the different styles of outfits? Honestly: I don't know anything about fashion so I read the descriptions and nothing comes to my head, I need images to know what they are djdhdjd sorry for my lack of fashion culture(?? 😅
haha its okay my pinterest has a fashion section but i haven't done the characters yet (aside from g)
EDIT: if you're talking about MC's styling options that's a bit harder to describe. it would benefit just to search it up (for example, 'academic fashion style') and see the options since i made it vague on purpose. it's really what you define what the style is.
I do encourage to imagine them wearing whatever you want them to. They follow very clear aesthetics which makes it pretty flexible. I like to describe their outfits in detail because I find it fun (lol)
Seven's outfit is basically this but instead of a t-shirt over it, they're wearing a utility shirt (with the patches and all) basically like they just came out from working at a warehouse lol and baggy cargo pants shoes...i always forget to describe shoes they're just wearing regular boots
One detail i forget to mention when i first introduced them is that Seven wears a bandana quite often, kind of like this for m!Seven and this for f!seven
G and Gina's outfits are different. Gina's outfit was directly inspired by this picture. Griffin's was directly inspired by this photo.
Orion's is pretty straightfoward
Seb's was inspired by this but with jeans!
Victoria's is basically this but I imagine it in black
August's outfits were made up by me, so I don't have an exact pic but it's more of this general vibe. I do CLEARLY imagine them wearing birken stocks with thick heels at the party sjdhffsafs
For side characters, I make them up!
Sorry if it's been asked already (I always ask this to people with really cool artstyles so I mightve asked you myself already and straight up forgot LOL) but I was wondering, do you have any advice/tips/tutorials for drawing full bodies?
I just think you have a really cool artstyle and ive always struggled making fanart (other than semi-realistic screencap redraws) because I still have to learn how to stylise full bodies😅 (faces too but those im a bit better at).
Anyway, ive also been following u since your scorbus era and it's been so cool to see all the growth and different fandoms youve gone through! (I myself am a big byler🫡).
Sorry this is long, have a nice day/night🥰 and feel free to ignore this if you want, no worries!
answering both of this together because i feel like my answer is going to be similar to both of them:
keep live/quick sketching people and poses! it’s a fantastic way to practice anatomy and when you speed up your process, it helps you figure out how full bodies look in your style because it’s your immediate instinct to draw a certain way! you don’t even need a live model to pose for you. the internet is full of incredible images and stock photos that are always fun to sketch. If you’d like a place to start, Adorka Stock is a deviant art page full of stock references made for artists.
I’m always and forever an advocate for quick sketching because when I started doing live sketches about a year ago they looked like this:
And these are my sketches from a couple of months ago:
The difference may not be massive to most people but I feel like my grasp on anatomy AND my line weight has improved drastically since. I feel more confident going into a piece knowing what the poses are going to be like in my head.
Apart from that, it’s normally widely accepted to reference poses for your art as long as you’re not tracing over someone else’s work. my favourite thing to do is self reference with photos or a mirror because then i can get exactly the pose that i want.
I hope this helped!
