An Odd Thought
Steve “Almost Nobody Sees Me With Messy Hair” Harrington and Robin “Almost Nobody Sees Me With Neat Hair” Buckley
Because like—
Steve letting his hair get messy, letting his hair be void of product and leaving it to its job, is a huge sign of comfort. He’s letting you know that ‘hey, I’m comfortable enough around you to let you see me at my messiest even though I’ve been told not to my entire life’.
Robin cleaning up and making herself “presentable”, brushing and styling her hair outside of a rushed ponytail/bun, is a sign of her efforts towards you (especially in a romantic partner). She’s basically saying ‘you’re worth me putting in the effort’.
Not to say that Robin doesn’t think anyone else is— around her friends, her messy hair is a comfort. But around an romantic interest, her messy hair is a personality feature she’s not always so sure about.
I love the idea is Steve and Robin finding comfort in their hair the same way someone would find comfort in a sweater; it’s their security blanket (especially Steve, who seems to think his whole personality revolves around his looks and charms).
Idk, it was just a thought :)

I think we kissed but I forgot | Robin Buckley x Harrington!Reader
Summary: Robin wakes up in her crush’s bed
Word count: 1.5k
Request: Can I get ‘’I’m scared of walking out of this room and never feeling the rest of my whole life the way I feel when I’m with you.’’ with Robin?
A/N: I’ve been working on this since September...kinda forgot about it
Tumblr media

Holy shit, Robin slipped as she woke up in someone else's bed – naked. Not just someone's bed, Steve's sister's bed.
Your back was turned to her, soundly sleeping on your silk pillowcase. Your side of the covers had been kicked during the night and your sleep shirt had ridden up, uncovering your butt. Robin's cheeks went hot, trying to look away but failing. It was just as nice up close than all the times she had caught a glimpse of it in the P.E. changing rooms.
Robin was trying not to freak out, but how can you not freak out when you wake up naked next to the girl you had a crush on for over two years?
She'll forever remember the way you had tapped her shoulder in English class and sweetly asked if you could borrow a pen from her. The moment had been rom-com-esque, but Robin never had the guts to make a move or talk to you outside that class, too scared you would make fun of her or reject her – which sounded terrifying for a closeted band girl who has a hard time making friends.
Now that she had become best friends with Steve, you by default snaked your way into her life. Robin couldn't tell if it was a good or bad thing. On one hand, she got to see you and talk to you in less anxiety inducing situations – like school. It also increased the possibilities of making a total fool of herself in front of you.
The odds turned in her favor because you took a liking into her. All of your secret moments in a crowded room were engraved in Robin's mind. The many fits of laughter and inside jokes she and you shared. Every time her name would fall from your tongue, everything would just stop. And when you tucked her hair behind her ear the other night, Robin combusted.
She was falling so deep and fast for you, which was making this confusing wake up so much more difficult for her.
How did she end up in that situation? It wasn't in Robin's habits to wake up in someone else's bed with barely any memories from the previous night. Perhaps it was the beer she had last night?
''Don't think too hard, it'll make your hangover worse.''
Your voice snapped Robin out of her mind, having not realized you were awake. Her eyes went into panic mode and she pulled the comforter over her bare chest, feeling body-shy. At least her panties were still on, shielding her intimate part.
There was a lazy smile on your face as you looked at her, the sunlight turning her shoulder golden. ''Good morning, beautiful.''
Robin's cheeks turned red, fighting a smile. No one had ever called her that.
Instead of saying 'good morning too', Robin's mouth began word-vomiting – and it wouldn't stop. ''I don't think morning is the appropriate term of time to be using as it's almost noon and noon is not part of morning. Not in that sense. It's part of lunch, but we can't say 'good lunch' because that's phonically wrong and only to be used when someone is going on lunch break or to get lunch-''
A soft laugh spilled from your lips, listening to her nervous rambling. ''What should I say, then?'' you asked, staring up into her blue eyes.
''I-I don't know...'' she stammered, a little tongue tied from your shameless flirting and the way you were looking at her.
''Are you getting all shy on me?'' You raised an eyebrow, a teasing smile creeping on your face. ''You weren't so shy last night when you were dancing on tables – that's where you lost your shirt.''
Sheer horror flashed in Robin's eyes. Oh god. This was worse than she thought... Dancing on tables and stripping was I-want-to-cralw-in-a-hole-and-die type of embarrassing. It's the kind of thing that earns you an ascend to being the main subject of town gossip for months.
You nudged your knee against hers, grinning. ''I'm joking, babe.''
The term of endearment sent a kaleidoscope in Robin's stomach. This was superior to 'beautiful' in her books. She wanted to scream into a pillow.
Instead, she wacked you in the face with it for making her think she had made a fool of herself last night. On a positive note, she won't have to explain to her mother why people are calling her 'sugar-tits' in the street.
You broke into laughter as the pillow hit you, catching it and tugging on it, causing Robin to lose balance and topple on top of you. The harsh movement had made her hair fall in her face. You reached out and brushed them off of her eyes, making eye contact as you did.
''You did, however, kiss me after I drunkenly serenaded you with Madonna's Crazy for You.''
''I kissed you?'' It sounded almost impossible.
You nodded, ghosting your fingers up and down Robin's ribcage, reminding her that she was still very naked now that she wasn't holding the comforter and that you could see her tits in all their glory. You didn't pay them any attention though.
''It was a very nice kiss.'' You glanced down at her lips, then back to her eyes, dying to taste her again.
Robin didn't remember – unfortunately.
''How- Did we..?'' She felt timid to ask, but she needed to know.
You shook your head, sensing Robin's train of thoughts. ''We didn't do anything.''
She breathed a sigh of relief. She already did not remember your first kiss, she didn't want to also not remember your first time. That would've been an utter bummer – and very sad.
''Just some making out and heavy petting,'' you continued, dragging your finger over her freckled thigh up to her knee, causing goosebumps to rise on her skin. She was so reactive to your touch. ''You even made your mark on me.'' You pulled at the collar of your shirt, revealing a small hickey.
Robin's cheeks turned red. She wanted to crawl in a hole and die. Her drunk-self was more daring – wilder – than sober Robin. ''I'm sorry. I didn't mean to mark you like that. I don't even know how to give hickeys! I don't know what took me, I'm never drinking again, I-''
You put a finger over her lips to silence her rambling and shook your head. ''Don't apologize. I like it...a lot.''
''You do?''
You nodded, hooking the finger that was on Robin's lips under her chin, tilting it and capturing her lips into a kiss.
The delicate touch alone made Robin's brain fog, completely new to this kind of affection. She had kissed some boy during a game of spin the bottle when she was eleven, but it had been a peck. This kiss was...she didn't know how to describe it. All she knew was that it invaded all her senses and she could only focus on your mouth against hers, moving slowly and tenderly.
Then, your stomach started gurgling.
You pulled back, making Robin whine at the loss of contact, wishing you had kissed her longer. ''Do you want to go down and get breakfast?'' you asked, playing with the short hair at the back of her neck.
Robin shook her head.
''Are you not hungry?''
''No. It's not that. I...''
''What is it, then?''
The sweetness in your voice made her pliant and she hated it.
''I'm scared of walking out of this room and never feeling the rest of my whole life the way I feel when I'm with you. This, kissing in bed with you, feels like a dream. I've wanted this for so long. I don't want this moment to end, I don't want us to end once we walk out that door.''
Robin hated being vulnerable and talking about her feelings and emotions. It gave people material to tease her, to make fun of her. She felt a little safer with you, though. Unlike most, she knew you wouldn't use her words against her.
However, confessing something of the sort still made her nervous.
''What if I told you I'll still want to kiss you after breakfast? Would you come down for breakfast, then?'' You raised an eyebrow, waiting for her answer. ''Perhaps we could come back here and cuddle.''
Robin's eyes lifted slowly, meeting yours. ''Y-yeah?''
You nodded. ''I don't have any plans today. I'm all yours – if you want me.''
''I want you. I mean, not like that. Well, maybe like that, but I don't think I'm ready for sex yet and-'' You chuckled at her rambling. Robin stopped, realizing you had caught what she meant and she could shut up now. ''Breakfast. Let's go make breakfast. But first, can I borrow some clothes? Steve and I are best friends, but I don't feel comfortable being naked in his presence.''
When you and Robin came down for breakfast, Steve was in the kitchen with a terrible bed head, emptying cans of beers from last night into the sink. He greeted you both, noticing but kindly not pointing out that Robin was wearing a shirt that wasn't hers and that she had slept over – not in the guest room.

Waiting for a Girl Like You | E.M.
Pairing: Eddie Munson x Fem!Harrington!Reader
Summary: Eddie invites you, along with Robin, Nancy and your brother Steve to one of his concerts in The Hideout. Feelings ensue.
Word count: 6.3k
Warning: some angst at times, but nothing too serious and it has a happy ending, bad relationship with parents, curse words
Author’s note: My very first Eddie fanfic! Hope y’all enjoy ;)) Disclaimer: GIF is not mine!
Tumblr media
For as long as you can remember, it’s always been you and your brother, Steve Harrington. There’s an age gap of only one year between you two, as if your parents knew soon after Steve was born that they couldn’t care to keep him company, so they provided him with a sibling to do the job. Knowing your parents, that’s probably exactly what happened. Ever since Steve hit the ripe age of 11, they decided he was old enough to take care of himself and his 10 year old sister and fucked off to each and every business trip they could possibly go on. Separately of course, they cared for each other even less than they cared for their children, yet they couldn’t be bothered to get divorced. Something to do with keeping up appearances probably. In the beginning, they went on trips for a week at most, but as the years went on they tended to disappear for months at a time.
Maybe it’s for the best. Steve and you truly have all the family you need in each other. Sure you fought with each other, but you almost never went to bed angry. You were also one of the only people who could knock some sense into Steve during his douchebag, King Steve era. You were the one who convinced him to go to the Byers’ home after Jonathan punched him for calling Nancy a slut. You even went with him and stayed in the car when he went inside.
That’s how you got wrapped up in the whole Upside Down-nightmare. You were there for the first round with the demogorgons, you were there for the awful demodogs - one demogorgon, you could handle, but man, those demodogs really freaked the shit out of you. When the mind flayer came around, and you somehow got kidnapped by the Russians, you kept wondering how you kept getting into those situations. And when you dove into the murky water of Lovers’ Lake after your brother got dragged away by some vine, and you were hysterically fighting off those wretched demobats so they wouldn’t kill the only living family member you loved, you wondered if you would ever be free of it.
But here you all are now, a couple weeks later, Vecna defeated and the Upside Down officially destroyed, everyone you care about still alive. They rushed your brother, Eddie and you to some hidden government facility to get your demobat-wounds treated, one of the bat-fuckers managed to sneak in a bite on your hip, and Vecna never got close enough to Max to hurt her more than a broken arm.
It feels weird, just going back to school after that. You feel wary. Like you can’t actually believe it is actually gone. But as the physical wounds started to scar and fade, some other side effects were more difficult to get rid of. For example, the nightmares started acting up again, causing you to be really tired often times.
Which is why you shoot awake at Robin calling your name rather loudly.
“I’m up, I’m up,” you sigh, rubbing your eyes and lifting your head from the - probaby dirty - cafeteria table, to meet the eyes of your best friend.
“Good, thought you were Vecna’d for a second,” Robin jokes. You force out a smile. You know the band geek copes with humor and can’t let yourself ruin that.
“Well then, I’m very disappointed to see that you haven’t even taken out a walkman with my favorite song yet. Do you even know it?” You ask playfully, with your eyes narrowed in a teasing way.
“Of course, it’s-”
Robin is interrupted by Eddie making his way, rather theatrically, to your table.
You, Robin, Steve, Nancy and Eddie had all gotten quite close after the battle with Vecna. Shared trauma really does get people closer. The five of you would often hang out after school and on weekends. There had even been several sleepovers at your and Steve’s house as it was the biggest and almost permanently free of parents. At school, however, you all lead separate lives, with only you and Robin hanging out regularly. Eddie has his Hellfire Club and Nancy is almost permanently absorbed by the newspaper club.
“Well, if it isn’t two of my favorite ladies in the world. How are we on this fine day of having to confirm to society and attend high school?” He asks, while dropping dramatically onto the seat next to you, draping his arm over your shoulders.
You roll your eyes at his antics, but there is no actual mirth behind it. You suddenly feel nervous actually, not that you’d ever admit that out loud. Truth to be told, after your whole adventure in the Upside Down, you developed a quite big and quite embarrassing crush on the metalhead.
“What are you doing here, Eddie? Finally bored of hanging out with literal kids?” you tease him.
“You wound me, princess. Can’t a guy just visit his very, very dear friends without any ulterior motive?” He asks, lifting his free hand to his chest to mimic hurt. You give him a light shove and an unimpressed look at the nickname. He decided one day that since your brother was the King Steve of Hawkings High, that made you the princess.
“No,” Robin answers his question.
“Spit out what you want already, Munson.” Is your reaction.
“Alright, alright. You’re both too smart for your own good. So maybe I do need a favor from you,” he starts, and there is a shyness to his demeanor that is not often seen on him.
You and Robin share a look, before both looking at him with raised eyebrows, egging him on to continue.
“Alright so, this Friday my band, the very well known Corroded Coffin, as you both are undoubtedly aware, is playing in the Hideout and well, I thought it’d maybe be cool if you’d come. I was planning to ask Steve and Nance as well, for some nice little post-Upside Down team building.” He winks at the last part, but you still pick up on his slight nervousness around his request.
You and Robin share yet another suspicious look, you really could communicate without using words, to the annoyance of Steve mostly, before you answer. “... That’s it? That’s the favor you wanted to ask us? That’s not even a favor, of course we want to come, Eddie!”
“Great! Amazing! It starts around 9 p.m.! I’ll see you two there then!” He exclaims excitedly, before just standing up and leaving you and Robin to yourselves, bewildered at the sudden departure.
“Of course we want to come, Eddie, oh man of my dreams! Keep it in your pants, Harrington.” Robin teases you.
“Oh shut up, Buckley,” you answer, desperately trying to hide the blush blossoming on her cheeks. Robin is one of the only people you told about your little crush. Not even Steve knows, you’re too nervous about what his reaction would be. You know he’s come a long way from the douchebag he temporarily was, but you always yearn for his approval and don’t know what you’d do if he didn’t approve of Eddie. So only Robin knows. And Max. But that’s only because the girl is very observant. And Max is to you what Dustin is to Steve. Dustin and Steve gravitated towards each other almost immediately, instantly forming some kind of brother-relationship. And while you understood why that happened, you always felt more kinship with Max. You recognize pieces of yourself in the redhead and you are overall just very fond of the girl, supporting her through the complicated mourning around the loss of her stepbrother.
~~~
When Friday rolls around, Robin and Max are perched on your bed. It’s 6 p.m. and you had begged Robin to help you pick out an outfit for the concert. And Max decided to tag along, because well, it’s Max. She couldn’t come to the concert itself of course, because she’s way too young, but you would just drop her off at her house on your way to The Hideout. You had all decided to take one car, Steve driving of course, and you would pick up Nance along the way.
Currently Robin and Max are quietly chatting, while you are, quite stressed, emptying your entire closet onto the floor, searching for something to wear. You don’t know why you’re so nervous for Eddie’s show. It’s just that he’s acting quite suspicious since he invited you guys to his show. He won’t answer any questions about it, dodging the subject entirely. And then there’s the whole ‘asking for a favor’-thing, when it wasn’t even a favor to go to his show. And the shyness he showed. Maybe he’s just nervous? Maybe you’re reading way too much into it and maybe Eddie just has a normal little case of stage fright?
You are snapped out of your thoughts by Max waving a hand in front of your face. “Earth to Y/N! You still with us?”
“Yeah, yeah, was just thinking.” You reply.
“Don’t hurt yourself.” Max retorts lovingly. You retaliate by messing up the redhead’s hair, rubbing your hands in it. Max slaps your hands away.
“What about this?” Robin interrupts you, holding up an outfit she fished from the clothes strewn all over your now very messy room. It’s a cool outfit. Definitely cool enough to fit in in The Hideout, but it’s also still very much your style.
Your face lights up at the outfit. It’s perfect. “You, my dear friend, are an angel!” You exclaim, wrapping your arms around your friend and hugging her.
“Yeah, yeah, I know! Now go take a shower and get ready, or we’ll be late to Loverboy’s show!” She teases. And you do just that, heading into the en suite bathroom to your room and hoping a nice shower will ground you and calm your nerves before Eddie’s concert.
When you emerge from the bathroom, dressed in the outfit, hair done and makeup applied, Robin and Max quiet down for a second.
“Damn, you actually look really good.” Max says suddenly.
“Language!” Slips out of you before you can stop it. Steve’s Mother Hen-persona is rubbing off on you it seems.
It’s silent for exactly one second, before the three of you erupt in laughter.
“No, you actually look really good, Y/N. He won’t be able to take his eyes off of you.” Robin winks, once they’ve all calmed down. You cannot express how much you want that to be the truth.
“Okay, I think I’m ready.”
~~~
When the four of you arrive at The Hideout, there’s more people than you expected. Eddie seriously undersold his ‘audience of about five drunks’. The Hideout was quite packed, almost all dressed in a similar way as Eddie usually dresses. Steve and Nancy, with their obvious preppy style, stick out in this bar, but you guys can’t seem to care about that. You make your way through the crowd, before finding a nice standing spot in the middle of the audience, with a good view of the stage.
You chatter amongst yourselves, curious as to what the concert might bring, when suddenly you forget how to breathe. Eddie had come up on the stage and words escape you. He looks absolutely gorgeous. He has changed his trademark ripped black jeans for leather pants, with his trusty chain. And he’s wearing his familiar leather jacket. Silver adorns his neck and lots of chunky rings are wrapped around his fingers. But what really gets you is the fact that he’s shirtless underneath said jacket. Tattoos and demobat scars on full display. You almost begin to feel your mouth water, as it is slightly ajar.
You receive a subtle nudge from Robin that effectively wakes you from your trance and you snap your mouth shut. Steve gives you a questioning look that you just wave away.
Eddie struts confidently to the microphone and announces the band. “My esteemed ladies and gentlemen, it’s my pleasure to introduce my band, Corroded Coffin!” He waves his hands around at his fellow band members theatrically. “Are you guys ready?” He asks, to which the audience, including the four of you, replies with a loud cheer. You can see the way Eddie soaks it all up. He really is in his element on the stage.
He turns around and grabs his trusty guitar, slipping it around himself. The band communicates quietly and starts playing the first song, Eddie strumming expertly. You recognize the melody. It’s a metal song he frequently listens to and they’re now playing a cover of it. Eddie also spots you and your friends, and throws a wink in your direction.
He moves his head to the microphone and starts singing. And suddenly a few realizations wash over you like a tidal wave. First of all, he sings. You knew he was the guitarist, but you didn’t know he was also the lead singer. Second of all, you realize that this isn’t just a crush. Seeing him up there in all his glory, singing like his life depends on it, you know deep in your heart that you’ve fallen head over heels, madly in love with him. You never let yourself ponder the deepness of your crush on him and now it all comes crashing down on you. And thirdly, you realize he probably doesn’t feel the same way about you. It feels like a stab in the heart. He never expressed anything other than friendship to you. Never dropped any hints. I mean, sure, you guys flirt with each other often, but he flirts with all his friends, so it doesn’t mean anything. The chances of this being unrequited are quite big.
You try to push your thoughts aside and enjoy the concert - enjoy Eddie. You focus on the music, moving your body along to it, really feel it, but you can’t escape the tight feeling, as if a hand is squeezing your heart.
Apart from your internal crisis, the concert is an absolute hit. The Hideout is thrumming with energy and elation and despite the squeezing feeling in your heart, you appreciate the concert. It’s a mix of metal songs and pop songs in a metal coat. In between songs, Eddie, ever the showman, entertains the audience, keeps them on their toes. He really is made to do this.
“Alright, my lovely ladies and gents! It is, very unfortunately of course, time for our last song. This one is a special one, if I do say so myself. It goes out to a special girl in the audience! Enjoy!” Eddie announces. He spreads his arms while he is talking, in his usual way. Then you hear them counting down for the song to begin.
You can’t fight the sadness that washes over you as his words sink in. He’s serenading a song for the girl he likes and you’re quite sure it’s not you. You subtly look around you. There are quite a few girls present. You try to figure out who it could be, but soon give up, once he starts singing. Your eyes snap to his. You make eye contact. Your breath is hitching in your throat and for a second, only a second, you let yourself hope.
So long, I've been looking too hard I've been waiting too long Sometimes I don't know what I will find I only know it's a matter of time
Almost as soon as your eyes meet, he moves them away, avoiding your gaze.
When you love someone When you love someone It feels so right, so warm and true I need to know if you feel it too Maybe I'm wrong Won't you tell me if I'm coming on too strong? This heart of mine has been hurt before This time I want to be sure
He’s singing earnestly now, pouring his heart and soul into the song. Yet your eyes never meet again. He looks everywhere but at you.
I've been waiting for a girl like you to come into my life I've been waiting for a girl like you, your a love that will survive I've been waiting for someone new to make me feel alive Yeah, waiting for a girl like you to come into my life
Your heart sinks into your shoes. It’s not you. You’re not the special girl he’s singing this song for. You’re mad at yourself for letting yourself have hope. You should have known. Not even your parents love you, why would he?
When the song is over you look over at Robin with sadness in your eyes, only to be met with confusion. She shoots you a questioning gaze, but you just shake your head.
The room packed with people starts feeling like it’s all too much. There’s too much noise, it’s too hot, and you’re getting a claustrophobic feeling. You need to get out of there, fast.
You turn around, moving to get away when you’re stopped by your brother. “Hey, hey, hey! Where are you going?” He asks, concern written on his face.
“I just really need to get some air.” You answer vaguely.
“Okay, I’ll come with you!” He says, moving to go with you.
“No, please, I really just wanna be alone for a minute. I’ll be fine, I promise!” You look at him with pleading eyes. He looks at you for a long second, before sighing and nodding, letting you go.
You make your way quickly through the crowd, as they’re all still cheering and clapping for the performance. Somewhere deep inside, you feel like a bad friend for not staying and cheering, but that feeling is no match for the overwhelming sadness.
When you finally make it outside, you take a few calming breaths, hoping to calm yourself down. But your eyes have another idea and tears start slipping out of them. You stand against a wall near the entrance and let it all wash over you.
It feels like the hand that wrapped itself around your heart starts squeezing more tightly, using its nails to hurt you even more.
You don’t know how long you’ve been standing there. It could be only a few seconds, it could be 20 minutes. People are slowly exiting the bar, but mostly everyone stays inside.
Suddenly the door slams open and catches your attention. You see Eddie exiting and looking around frantically. You turn away from him, wipe your tears and hope he doesn’t see you. Your hope is in vain of course, as you hear his chain rattling as he approaches you.
“So what did you think of-” He cuts himself off when he sees your blotchy red face, the smile slipping from his. “Hey, what’s wrong, princess?” He asks softly, brushing your hair behind your ears and cupping your face.
You clear your throat, looking anywhere but at him - which is quite difficult as his face is awfully close to yours - and say: “It’s nothing, it’s just something silly.”
“I’m sure it’s not just something silly, tell me!” He insists.
“Just leave me and go to your stupid special girl.” You bite back, anger in your eyes. You push his hand away from your face and try to put as much distance between you as possible. You know you have no right to be angry. He can like whoever he wants. But being reasonable is off the table for you right now.
He looks at you, pondering. “… Is that what this is about? You’re jealous?” He asks incredulously.
“Fuck off, dickhead. No need to rub it in.” You snap back, anger boiling.
“Well, the thing is, my very dear princess, it’s quite impossible to be jealous of yourself, I’m pretty sure.” He answers, a smile starting to break out on his face.
“What do you mean?” You eventually ask uncertainly.
“I mean, Y/N, that you’re the special girl from the song.” He explains patiently.
The very second the words are out of his mouth, the hand around your heart disappears and you can’t do anything but rush forward and almost connect your lips. Almost. You’re still giving him an out. If he doesn’t want you, if he doesn’t feel that way about you, he can back up now and you will both pretend nothing happened.
But he doesn’t do that. No, he wastes no time to close the distance and you finally feel his lips on yours. As your lips move against each other tentatively, his hands find your waist and he guides the two of you back until your back hits the wall.
The tentative kiss soon turns into something that’s starting to resemble a full blown make out session. Not too long after that, you both pull away, gasping for air, with lovesick smiles on your faces. You both start blushing as well, remembering that you just did that in public.
Suddenly a thought pops into your head. You smile a mischievous smile. “Rock, paper scissors on who tells my brother we’re dating?” You joke.
Eddie barks out a laugh. “Oh, so we’re dating now, are we, princess?” He winks at you.
“Well, you ain’t getting rid of me now, dickhead.” You nudge him playfully, but there’s still an insecure edge to it. Maybe you assumed to quickly and he doesn’t actually want to date you?
Before that train of thought can leave the station, he slings his arm around your shoulder. “Alright, that’s fine by me, princess. Where do you want to go on our first date then?” He drops a kiss on your cheeks and you can’t help the blush that spreads. You both start walking, ever so slowly, back to the entrance of the bar, to go back to your friends.
“Surprise me.” You wink.

“Eddie! We get it!” Dustin groans to the Hellfire leader at the lunch table. “If you like her so much, then go ask her out!” The other boys and Max are stifling laughs at Dustin’s outbreak, most of them thinking the same thing. They’d had to listen to Eddie talk about Y/N, nearly every second of the day, apart from when we was speaking about D&D or Corroded Coffin.
Eddie slumps on his seat, crossing his arms, “It’s not that easy.” He whispers into the bite of his sandwich. The boys all groan, rolling their eyes. All of them aren’t sure that Eddie has even spoken to you before, apart from speaking to you at your job at Family Video, which he had now become a regular at. If it wasn’t for the younger boys being friends with Steve, the other members of Corroded Coffin would have never have believed Eddie would fall for Steve Harrington’s best friend. “Why don’t you come to Nancy’s Halloween party, no doubt she’ll be there with Steve and Robin, you can ask her then?” Lucas suggests. “What do you mean, Nancy’s party?” Mike questions, unaware of what his sister has planned. “Your parents are away this weekend, Halloween weekend. Of course your sister is throwing a party, at least one Wheeler has some sense.” Max explains.
Eddie throws a last minute costume together, finding a red t-shirt and buying a pair of devil horns. “Really playing up to the satanic rumour, Munson.” Dustin laughs as everyone walks up to the Wheeler house, music already being heard from the bottom of the driveway. Mike welcomes you all in, Eddie spots you with Robin in the kitchen immediately. White dress, wings and an angel halo headband. “Did you plan this, Munson? To match with Y/N?” Dustin speaks, immediately being hit in the arm by Eddie. “Of course not!” He notices Robin whisper something in your ear and gesture in his direction. You turn your head in his direction, giggling when you notice his costume. Hoping down off the counter, making your way straight towards him. “Is she walking straight to me or am I dreaming, Sinclair?!” Lucas just pinches Eddie. “Okay, yeah. Felt that. Not dreaming.”
“Munson!” You shout, wrapping your arms around him to greet him. His eyes widen, hugging you back. “We’re matching! Looks like you’re stuck with me tonight then.” Eddie can’t even speak, just nodding as you link your arm through his, leading him over to the punch bowl. “Please someone tell me he likes her back.” Robin sighs to the Hellfire crowd. The boys’ eyes all widen, looking straight to Robin. “He’s pretty much in love with her.” Max responds. “Thank god for that. I can’t listen to her talk about Eddie all day much longer.”
“I gotta ask you, Munson.” You start to question, biting your fingernails as Eddie pours the two of you a glass of punch each. “Is Poltergeist your favourite movie?” Eddie’s eyebrows furrow as he hands you the cup. He has to hide his reaction as he realises. “Because you seem to check out that movie every time you come into the store!” You finish, hoping back up to sit on the counter. In all honesty, Eddie just picks the video closest to you at your desk in Family Video. He blushes slightly, moving to stand in front of you, one hand next to your hip on the counter. Eddie takes a deep breath in. “Honestly, Y/N, I didn’t even know what movie I’ve been checking out, I never watch it.” You lean forward, questioning his words, the blush not leaving Eddie’s cheeks, as your face is much closer to his now. “I just pick a random one each time, guess I managed to keep picking the same one.” Eddie hides his face behind his hands, making you giggle.
You move his hands, keeping hold of them as you move them away from his face. “I just wanted an excuse to see you a few times a week, renting a video seemed like the easiest way to do it.” You move his hands again, placing them on your waist. His smile growing bigger by the second. “Well, I’m very glad you do. Seeing your van arrive at Family Video makes my day. Watching your face bounce in makes it even better.” Eddie can’t resist himself now, leaning forward and planting his lips on yours. Your hands move up to his face, rubbing his cheek with your thumb as he kisses you lightly. You hear shouts and celebrations to the left of you, noticing all your friends had been watching the whole time. You both blush and laugh, hiding your head in Eddie’s chest, before you hear them all shout. “Finally!”

Masterlist
Pairing: Steve Harrington x Hopper!Reader
Word Count: 8,058
Warnings: Angst, Jealousy, Jason being a dick, I think that's it?
Summary: The Upside Down and all of its horrors are back in Hawkins. Y/N Harrington, née Hopper, can feel herself pushing Steve away. The thought of losing someone else she loves is too much for her to handle, especially with the little green monster on her shoulder. Will her and Steve's marriage survive? Or will that be taken away from her too?
Author’s Note: Okay I know I said this was going to be the last part, but there will be one more after this where they fight the final battle and Hopper comes back. I felt like that needed its own separate part. So stay tuned for that! Enjoy!
Part Two: 'Cause I'm Coming At You Like A...
Y/N hated Lovers Lake. It never had any good memories for her. The worst one was the time Sarah almost drowned, her little lungs barely gasping for air as she swam. Y/N remembered the feeling of her little sister clinging onto to her for dear life as she swam them both to shore. Hopper had gone to the car to grab another bottle of sunscreen, and their mother was shuffling through the cooler to prepare the picnic they packed for the afternoon. Neither of them had eyes on the girls. Y/N kicked her legs with every ounce of strength she had to get her sister to safety. By the time they reached the shore their mother had ran out to them, screaming, for Hopper to get back. It was the most terrifying two minutes of Y/N's life at the time. Sarah didn't need CPR, Y/N had kept her head out of the water. They were both strong swimmers, which was why it was so bizarre that Sarah freaked out in the water. No one in the family knew it was the early stages of cancer rearing its ugly head. The following summer Sarah was gone, and Y/N vowed to never swim inside Lover's Lake again. That vow was broken the moment Steve set foot inside the boat.
It was a tight squeeze. Eddie, Steve, Robin, Nancy, and Y/N inside the small vessel. The further they got away from shore the more Y/N had wished she had stayed behind. Sitting in between her husband and his ex girlfriend was certainly not how she wanted to spend her evening, especially navigating the waters of the cursed lake. It was dark, murky, a black wall in between them and whatever horrors lurked below.
When the compass began to spin out, Y/N knew they had found what they were looking for. She previously hoped that when they managed to find the gate they would all just turn back around, full knowing the likelihood of that was slim to none. All because Steve, her senselessly brave Steve, volunteered to jump inside the depths of Lover's Lake. The moment he stripped off his shirt she tried to stop him, begged him to stay in the boat with her, but they all knew it couldn't be done. He was the best swimmer in the boat, their only shot of securing intel on the gate. So she let him go, dive into waters below, all with barely contained nerves and vicious jealousy. She saw the way Nancy looked at him when he took off his sweater. The crystal clear signs of interest. Y/N knew it wasn't fair to feel that way, Steve got looks all the time and it didn't bother her. This time it felt different. This time she felt threatened. With each passing moment the feeling got worse, all while patiently waiting for Steve to come back.
The moment he finally breached the water instant relief flooded her veins. Y/N threw herself to the edge of the boat, reaching to grab both of Steve's arms, anchor himself to her.
"I found it!"
"You did?" Y/N asked, her hands firmly grasped around his wrists.
"Yeah, I found it"
"Dustin, you goddamn Einstein. Steve found the gate!" Robin shouted into the walkie talkie.
"What did you see?" Nancy asked as she scooted closer to Y/N's side. In the moment Y/N didn't care about the line of questioning, she just wanted Steve back in the boat, back to safety. The sense of dread never fully left her, call it gut instinct or paranoia, but it all seemed too easy. Nothing was easy in Hawkins.
"It's pretty wild. It's more of a snack-sized gate than the mama gate, but still, it's pretty damn big" Steve replied. Y/N was about to tell him to hurry his ass up and get inside the boat before she felt a pull. Steve almost slipped back in the water, but her grip on his forearms kept him steady. Just barely.
"What the hell was that?"
"I'm not sure, it felt like-" whatever it was tried to pull Steve under again, but Y/N held on. The pull was stronger, something was hooked onto him. Something from the gate.
"Grab onto me! Something's got him!" Y/N's body was half over the boat, desperate to keep Steve above water. She could feel multiple pairs of arms wrap around her, all of them struggling to pull her back into the boat.
"Y/N let go! The boat's gonna tip over!" Steve yelled, water splashing across his face.
"Then let it flip! I'm not letting go!" Y/N meant every word. Whatever it was, it wasn't going to get Steve. She refused to let another monster take away someone she loved. She'd rather die.
The boat was rocking back in forth, lake water seeping into it with each turn. It was only a matter of time before it capsized, before they were all thrown into the lake. Y/N could feel her ribs get crushed against the wooden board, but she didn't care. She held on to Steve with everything she had in her, just like she did with Sarah those many years before.
"Let go!" Steve's face was only centimeters above water, barely clinging onto the surface. At this rate he would drown. She would lose him. He'd be gone forever, just like everyone else in her life. Y/N pulled harder.
"No!" Y/N could feel him start to slip from her grasp, he had unwrapped his fingers from her arm, left them loose against her skin. With one more tug, Steve slipped himself out of her grasp. In a split second he was pulled under the depths, and a split second later Y/N dove in to follow him.
Whatever it was that grabbed Steve was fast, pulled him deep into the depths of Lover's Lake faster than she could swim to catch him. She kicked legs as quickly as she could, desperate to keep him within her line of sight. The distance grew further and further apart, inches, a foot, a yard, before all she could see was the faint red glow from the gate.
Her lungs were burning in her chest, she didn't take a full breath before she followed Steve under. Y/N persevered, ignored her lungs screaming for air, ignored the radiating pain from her rib cage. All of it was white noise. All she could think about was getting to Steve, bringing him to safety, holding him in her arms again. It's what got her through it. The sheer panic of swimming in Lover's Lake again. The past didn't matter in that moment, she just had to make to the gate. Once she finally pushed herself through, it was clear the nightmare wasn't over. The worst had just begun.
The fight was a blur. Y/N remembered shrieks, the fluttering of wings, seeing Steve covered with blood and a tail wrapped around his throat. She remembered throwing herself at him, tearing the the creature feasting on his stomach away from him. Smashing it against the cold, unforgiving ground of the Upside Down until it was no longer living. She remembers Eddie, Robin, and Nancy joining the fight at some point, Steve biting off a chunk of the bat with his teeth. There was blood, so much blood around him. Y/N didn't know if it was his or the bats, neither of those options gave her comfort.
Then they were running away, Steve's hand in hers sprinting towards the trees outside of the empty crater that was supposed to be Lover's Lake. She remembered the pain, how quickly it came back once they found shelter. With every breath she took the pain got worse. The second they hit cover she collapsed to the ground, a ringing in her ears that nearly drowned out Steve's frantic voice.
"Y/N?! What's wrong? What happened? Where does it hurt? Come on you gotta talk to me, please answer me"
Y/N tried, she really did, but every time she opened her mouth to speak the pain was almost unbearable.
"It's her ribs. Lay her down, we have to make sure she didn't break any of them" Nancy answered for her. Y/N could only nod, the smallest of movements to tell her she was right.
"It's gonna be okay sweet girl, I've got ya. You're gonna be fine" Steve said as he gently laid her head against his lap. "How do we check to see she didn't break anything?"
"You have to lift up her shirt and press on her ribs, if it moves under your touch it's broken"
Steve gently raised the bottom of Y/N's shirt and pressed down on her chest. The pain shot down her spine, a whimper escaped her throat before she could seal her mouth shut. It didn't matter if her ribs were broken, it was all pointless. They had to get out, had to find a way to escape the Upside Down. They were wasting time.
"Shh, shh, it's gonna be okay. I promise Y/N" Steve soothed as he investigated the damage. "Nothing seems broken, but I'm not sure"
"You have to be sure Steve. If it's broken the rib could puncture her lung" Nancy reprimanded.
"I'm fine, I'll walk it off" Y/N finally spoke, ignoring the soreness in her chest.
"No way. Not until we're sure" it took everything within Y/N not to protest. She knew he was right, that Nancy was right. A broken rib could kill her if she didn't fix it in time.
"Let me check" Eddie crouched down beside her, leaving a safe distance between him and the couple.
"So what, you're a doctor now Munson? I'm not gonna let you cop a feel on my wife if that's your angle. Over my dead body"
"Steve" Y/N scolded, although her heart wasn't entirely in it.
"Don't worry Mr. Harrington, not trying to make a move on the Mrs. I've cracked a rib once or twice before, I know what I'm looking for"
"Doing what?" Steve asked, his tone losing its hostile nature from before.
"Well one time I busted my ass climbing out of a window, cracked two ribs there. Not fun, don't recommended at all. And another time I-"
"As much as I would love to hear the life story of Edward Munson I'd like to know if I'm gonna pierce my lung or not"
Eddie pressed gently on Y/N's ribs under Steve's watchful eye. The pain was still there, but it was more bearable than earlier. Y/N didn't know if it was because she was getting used to it, or if it was a sign of something worse. The last thing she wanted was to be a burden. Deep down she knew that if it came down to it, she'd make them leave her behind. Vecna was still out there. They couldn't afford to lose all of the adults in the group. Jonathan and Joyce were still in California, Hopper was dead, and none of them had any idea where Murray could be. Hawkins, if not the world, would be doomed if the kids were left alone to their own devices. Y/N made peace with it in that moment. Maybe the fates were on her side, maybe she'd see her dad and sister again. Y/N couldn't find herself feeling any regret. If she could do it over again, she'd still hold on to Steve with everything she had. She'd never let him go.
"Well Mrs. Harrington, good news. Nothing is broken. Might be a few cracks and you'll have one killer bruise, but you'll be fine" Eddie stood up and brushed the dirt from his pants, a cheeky grin plastered on his face "Dr. Munson M.D. prescribes little to no intense physical activity for at least a week. Hear that Mr. Harrington? Gonna get real close and personal with that right hand, man"
"Oh ha ha, very funny" Steve grumbled. He tried to help Y/N stand to her feet, but his own buckled the moment he moved.
"Shit" Y/N looked down to see the bite marks on his stomach were still bleeding, the flesh red and angry where it was torn.
"Christ Steve! Why didn't you tell me it was this bad?!" Y/N twisted her body to kneel in front of Steve, biting down the hiss of pain as she moved.
"You were hurt"
He said it so simply, as if it was the only thing that mattered. Steve didn't care that he was a monster's chew toy only minutes before, the only thing that was on his mind was her. That Y/N was hurt, he needed to help her. She tried to ignore the butterflies in her stomach, the rapid flutter in her heart. So intense she swore it would break in half. If her number one fear was losing anymore people she loved, the second was loving Steve too much. So much that it would swallow her whole. It was tragic how they both go hand in hand, love and loss. Would she survive it? When Steve eventually moved on from their fictitious marriage? When he realized she wasn't the one for him? Would it be better to walk away now? Or wait until the black hole of his absence swallowed her galaxy whole? Y/N didn't know. Didn't want to know. What she did know was that she needed to fix Steve up before he bled to death.
Y/N slipped off the sleeves of Steve's windbreaker and gently removed her shirt, the old black sports bra she wore the only grace of modesty she possessed. Ignoring her husband's protests, Y/N tore the cotton into ribbons. They weren't the most sanitary of bandages, but they would have to do. Robin was rambling about rabies, and Y/N would be a liar if she said she didn't consider the possibility of him getting something from the bites. It wasn't time to think about what if's, it was time to focus. She tried to remember what her dad taught her. Wrap the bandages tight, but not too tight to run risk of cutting off circulation. A bit of give, nothing more than a finger's width in size. Clean wounds with soap and water, or alcohol in a pinch. They didn't have access to any of that. Y/N prayed that no infection would spread before she could properly clean the wound, or worse.
"There, all done" Y/N tied the cotton in a small knot, tucking the excess underneath the rest of the bandage. She looked up to see Steve staring down at her, his knees bracketing her shoulders from where he weakly stood. He looked beautiful, painfully beautiful. Even covered in blood and muck, nothing could dampen how much Steve shined. It wasn't even close to how Y/N imagined it would be when she got down on her knees for him, but she couldn't deny the view from below was still nice.
"Gonna kiss it better sweet girl?" Steve panted. Y/N knew it was from the pain, but it didn't stop her thoughts from traveling elsewhere, thoughts that wouldn't be appropriate in the present company if they knew.
"You're ridiculous" Y/N said, but placed a chaste kiss to his stomach anyway. Steve held her hand, carefully pulled her up from her spot on the ground.
"You know you love me" she knew it was in jest, but the butterflies in her stomach refused to get the memo.
"I-"
"As much as I adore this public display of affection, I think we should probably figure out how the hell to get out of here?" Steve and Y/N whipped their heads to look at Eddie, he was still standing only a mere foot away from them. She had almost forgotten they weren't alone, that they were on the run from killer bats and a psychic monster man.
The group moved outside of the cover from the Upside Down's version of Skull Rock. Nancy had one arm wrapped around Steve, much to Y/N's displeasure, and tried to help him walk out. Eddie offered to help Y/N, but she was too stubborn to accept it. She knew it was ridiculous, Nancy was only being helpful, but pain and exhaustion was enough of a motivator to be a bit foolish. Y/N walked up to Steve and Nancy and wrapped her arm around him, taking the other side.
"Don't worry Nance, I got him" Y/N said, her voice dripping with false sincerity. Nancy nodded and let go of Steve, following Eddie and Robin to the clearing outside of Skull Rock.
"So, uh," Eddie began as he stood up on one of the other rocks, trying to get a better view of their surroundings, "this place is like Hawkins, but with monsters and nasty shit?"
"Pretty much" Y/N replied, resting Steve against the rock. Eddie tried to take a step forward, make his way down the rock before Nancy stopped him.
"Wait, watch out for the vines. It's all a hive mind"
"It's all a what?"
"All the creepy crawlies around here, dude. They're like, one or something. You step on a vine, you step on a bat, you step on Vecna" Steve supplied, checking on his bandages.
"Shit" Eddie carefully made his way down the rock, avoiding all the vines that covered the space.
"But everything from our world still here, right? Except people?" Robin asked. Y/N was surprised how well they were both handling everything. This wasn't her first rodeo, not by a long shot, same for Nancy and Steve. Robin might have had a taste last summer, but this was all new to Eddie.
"As far as I understand it, yea" Nancy replied.
"So, theoretically, we could go to the police station and steal guns and grenades and whatever we need to blow up those bat things that are guarding the gate" Y/N couldn't help but chuckle, she couldn't imagine the Hawkins police shelling out for grenades, not with their budget.
"The Hawkins P.D. doesn't have grenades... right Y/N?" Steve asked, his voice less annoyed from when he addressed Robin.
"They certainly don't have grenades, but they do have guns. Lots of them"
"Well, we don't have to go all the way downtown for guns. I have guns in my bedroom" Y/N wouldn't be surprised if Nancy eventually invested in a whole armory. The girl had a decent shot.
"You, Nancy Wheeler, have guns, plural, in your bedroom?" Eddie asked, full of disbelief.
"Full of surprises, isn't she?" Robin chirped. Y/N turned to look at her, even under the low light of the Upside Down she noticed a faint blush on her cheeks. Interesting.
"A Russian Makarov and a revolver"
"Yeah, you almost shot me with that one" Steve chuckled as he dragged himself off the rock. Y/N was about to step forward to help him, but the next thing that came out of Nancy's mouth halted her in her tracks.
"You almost deserved it" she said with a teasing smile. Y/N watched as Steve looked at Nancy, a fond look of nostalgia on his face. It took everything in her not to crumble. Anyone with eyes could see a tension there, and the pain in her chest wasn't from a few cracked ribs. Y/N turned and walked away, she had enough of the display. As she walked she could hear Eddie's voice, saying something about modesty, but she didn't care.
There was a new mission in her head now, get to the Wheeler house, get the guns, get the fuck out of the Upside Down. All whilst pretending her heart isn't about to break. Y/N tried to ignore the rapid questions in her mind, how Steve can act like the perfect husband one moment and be practically flirt with his ex the next. Was she seeing things that weren't there? Was it all an act? Was she just a place holder until Nancy came back? Should she nip this whole marriage in the bud before she fell too deep? That last one was impossible, Y/N knew she was already too far gone. Another phase was added to her mission then, get the nerve to tell Steve that when the battle with Vecna was done, they should call the divorce lawyer.
Like Richard Bach said, if you love somebody, set them free.
What a dick.
The little green monster was building permanent lodgings on Y/N's shoulder. Climbing into the RV did a number on her ribs, so when she found herself finally inside she was hesitant to move from the back seat. It was a choice she regretted, because Nancy sat in the passenger seat besides Steve. He checked on her, made sure she was okay, but in the end he was the only one who could drive the damn thing.
It wasn't Nancy's proximity that bothered Y/N, what made her heart slowly tear itself to shreds. No, it was the fact that Steve had told her his dreams for the future. The same story he told her the night they got married. The six little nuggets traveling across the country. Y/N could picture it now. Steve and Nancy with their perfect little angels in the back seats, miles of open road in front of them, laughing and smiling with each other. A picture perfect family. Steve the house husband, Nancy the power house bread winner, the American dream. It made her sick.
When Steve pulled into the War Zone, Y/N didn't hesitate to jump out of the RV. He tried to get her attention, but she ignored him. She hadn't said a word to him since they all left other Wheeler house. It was childish, giving Steve the cold shoulder. Especially since she promised she would talk to him when she was upset, but how could she expect her to do that when the reason for it was standing three feet away from her? Y/N didn't want to delude herself thinking Nancy and Steve didn't have feelings for each other anymore. She assumed Nancy had broke it off with Jonathan before everything went down, he was supposed to be in Hawkins for spring break. Yet, he was still in California with her sister, Mike, and the rest of the Byers family. Nancy knew the marriage wasn't real, that her and Steve weren't actually together. Hooking up a few times does not make a marriage. He was fair game. Knowing that didn't make the pain hurt any less.
Y/N chose to put all of her focus on the task at hand. Grab weapons, make a plan to stop Vecna, smite the bastard, and move on with her life. She repeated it over and over again in her head. There was no room for distractions, no room for girlish heartbreak. Their lives were on the line. It was because of this she didn't notice someone had walked next to her at the counter, a certain blonde pain in her ass.
"Hopper, surprised to see you here instead of the station" Jason said with false sincerity.
"Not as much of a surprise it is to see you. Why are you looking at guns Jason?" Y/N was in no mood to play nice with Jason Carver. He was gunning for Eddie and the kids, in her mind that made him public enemy #2.
"Scary times, don't know when you might need to protect yourself" Jason began as he watched Y/N pay for the gun in her hands. "That's a pretty big one, sure you can handle it?"
"It's a Glock 19, the barrel is only 4 inches long. If you think that's big I feel sorry for all your future girlfriends" Y/N couldn't deny the sick satisfaction she felt when she saw Jason's pleasant facade melt off his face, how it quickly morphed into anger. Did the guy just lose his girlfriend? Yea. Did Y/N care? Not really. Her father died, her sister died, her mother left her, her husband probably will too. Y/N didn't care about Jason Carver's feelings, not when the gun he had in his hands was meant for people she cared about, people she loved.
"Listen Hopper-"
"No, you listen Carver. I know what you're planning on doing with that thing in your hands. If you know what's good for you you'll put it down and walk away. It's not a fucking toy" Y/N took a step towards him, her eyes filled with righteous fury, "so help me God Jason if you plan on using that gun I will not hesitate to bring the entire Hawkins Police Department down on your ass. I will come for you, I will come for your friends, your family, and I will come for this ridiculous establishment too. I will ruin your life. So stop with this vigilante bullshit and go the fuck home"
She took one more step forward, satisfied when the boy in front of her flinched with the movement. "And it's Harrington, Mrs. Harrington asshole"
Jason's sardonic laugh felt like nails on a chalk board. His eyes had no light in them, and the sick smile on his face was far more sinister than what he wanted people to believe. Y/N saw right through him.
"Oh that's rich, Mrs. Harrington" Jason's words dripped with venom, "you made a mockery of the sanctity of marriage with that drunk fiasco. You think word didn't spread about what really happened?" Y/N was too slow to react, didn't have enough time to back away when Jason whipped his hand out to grab her elbow, pulling her closer to him. His grip sent shockwaves of pain down her side, it would surely leave bruises.
"Honestly, why would I listen to little orphan Annie? So desperate for company you settled with being second fiddle to Nancy Wheeler. It's pathetic"
Y/N could feel the tears gather in her eyes, but she refused to give Jason the satisfaction of seeing them. She knew if she opened her mouth to interrupt his vicious monologue she'd break out into sobs. So she kept her mouth shut, willing herself to calm down. Then she would stop him, but each word that left his mouth felt like another knife was plunged into the space between her cracked ribs, into her broken heart.
"Boy she did a number on him, anyone with eyes could see it. That was true love right there, not whatever bullshit this is. You know that's what everyone thinks, right?" Bullshit. Jason said they were bullshit. People thought their marriage was bullshit. Just. Bullshit.
"No one else wanted you, so you picked the guy who already lost the best thing he could ever get. I could see Wheeler turning the biggest man whore in Hawkins into husband material, but you? Don't make me laugh"
Y/N had enough. It was one thing to say that garbage about her, Carver wasn't far off the mark, but Steve? It didn't matter if their marriage was bullshit, it didn't matter that he didn't love her like she loved him. Steve was the love of her life, and no one was gonna get away with saying that shit about him. Not behind his back, and especially not to her face. No shot in Hell.
Y/N flipped her wrist and slammed it into Jason's elbow. He dropped the grip on her for a split second, just enough time to grab his wrist and pin it behind him. Y/N reached for Jason's neck and slammed it on the counter, the same move her father did when he arrested the more unruly citizens. He struggled under her grip, but there was no use. Jason was completely immobilized, exactly how she wanted him.
"Now you listen here, and you listen good. You're gonna shut your trap about shit you know nothing about. If I hear you say any of that garbage again, you'll be praying that all of your bullshit about demons and Satan coming for the people of Hawkins were true, because they will have far more mercy than I will when I come after you" Y/N pressed Jason skull harder against the glass, just enough to hurt before letting him go.
"Keep my husband's name out of your god damn mouth" Jason didn't hesitate to leave after she was done, running as fast as he could away from her. Y/N grabbed her bag, gun and ammo secured inside, fully prepared to walk back to the RV. Yet, when she turned around to go she found herself frozen in her spot. Standing only six feet away from her was Steve, Nancy, and Robin, equally as frozen as her.
"How much of that did you hear?" Y/N asked, all the fire inside of her immediately vanquished.
"Um, everything after little orphan Annie?" Robin murmured. Which was great, honestly. A part of her wished that Vecna would just take the reins, float her up to the ceiling and spare her the pitied looks she was sure to receive from those three.
"Alright then" Y/N didn't want to hear it, whatever poor attempt of consolation they would dish out. Jason's an asshole Y/N, don't listen to him or just ignore him, it's not worth it. She knew that, she didn't need anyone else to tell her. Y/N tried to walk away, but Steve stopped her.
"Alright then? That's all you have to say?" she refused to look at him, too proud or too scared to see the truth in Steve's eyes.
"There's nothing left to say. Let's go" Y/N tried to remove herself from him. Steve refused to let go. His touch far more gentle than Jason's, but still firm with his intent to keep her still.
"Like Hell there's not-"
"Steve, she's right. We have to go. Jason and his posse are here, we don't have the time to mess around" Nancy reasoned. She could tell by her voice that Nancy was shaken by what Jason had said, why she was Y/N didn't know. Didn't really care to know.
"This conversation isn't over" Steve said as he let go of her arm. Y/N remained silent as she made her way to the exist of the War Zone, Erica and Max quickly following behind the rest of the group. Steve got behind the wheel of the RV, but Nancy didn't take her previous spot in the passenger seat. Y/N didn't fill it. She walked right past it and returned to her spot in the back. Robin decided to take the spot, and they all drove away to from the bustling parking lot.
Eddie gave up his seat behind Steve to Nancy, and joined Y/N on the back bench. He didn't say anything at first, but she knew he was itching to speak. It was only when she heard Nancy give directions to a spot they could regroup that Y/N decided to speak up.
"Yes, Eddie?" He was fiddling with the zipper on his jacket, a clear sign of nerves.
"Listen, tell me to shut up whenever 'cause it's none of my business, but..." Eddie began, "There's obvious something's up with you. I might not be the most wise person in this vehicle, but I've got two ears that still work. If you wanna talk, I can listen"
Eddie was the only person in the whole world that truly knew who Y/N's heart belonged to. She spilled her guts out to him right after Christmas, too high and too sad to keep her filter going. Back then he told her to confess her feelings to Steve. They were already married, what's the worst thing that could happen? He said she was a total catch, that Steve was an idiot if he didn't feel the same. She wished she had Eddie's faith, his confidence. It would have made things so much easier, but she didn't. Y/N was a coward when it came to her heart, it had been bruised enough before. There was safety with secrecy, with keeping her emotions locked up tight. No one could hurt her if they didn't know. At least, that's what she told herself.
"I ran into Jason in the War Zone" Y/N could hear the quick inhale Eddie took beside her, his eyes wide with shock as she spoke, "He basically said I'll never be as good as Nancy, that I'm pathetic for even thinking I was even in the same league as her. Said that my marriage is bullshit and everyone in Hawkins thinks so..."
Eddie didn't speak, he was patiently waiting for her to continue. He knew she had more to say, and Y/N knew he wouldn't utter a word until everything was said. It was as annoying as it was comforting.
"Did you hear what Steve said earlier? About his dreams of the future?" Y/N asked, voice barely above a whisper.
"Yea? What about it?"
"It's the same story he said the day we got married. The same vision I imagined I would be a part of one day, but he said it to her" Y/N paused, willing herself not to cry, "I mean, shit, maybe Jason's right. It's not like I haven't thought the same thing. That I'll never compare to Nancy, that she's his future. Lord knows I've had enough fucking nightmares about it... I just feel pathetic getting so worked up over this. If only my dad could see how low his daughter has fallen..."
"Now that's bullshit" Eddie asserted, "you and I both know Chief Hopper would be super fucking proud of you"
"Eddie-"
"No let me finish" Eddie placed a gentle hand on her shoulder, his eyes warm with soft determination, "yes Steve and Nancy have a past, there's no denying that. She'll always be his first love, but that doesn't mean you aren't his last. That's the more important one"
"But Steve-"
"I'm gonna stop you right there. I don't know what it's gonna take to get it through your thick skull, but Harrington is ass over tit for you. He always calls you his wife, or Mrs. Harrington, and sweet girl. No guy would do that if there wasn't any love there. Unless they were a total sociopath, but Steve's not the type. He's way too sappy for that shit" It sounded so easy when Eddie said it, like it was the most obvious thing in the world. Her head agreed with every word her said, but her heart wouldn't let her believe it.
"Then why hasn't he said he loves me? It's been eight months Eddie, wouldn't he have done by now if he felt that way?"
"You haven't said it"
"That's different..." she didn't know how to tell him that it was. Y/N knew it would all sound like excuses, and they all probably were. It didn't matter though, it's what she felt.
"Bullshit it's different. Who's to say boy wonder over there hasn't said the same shit to Buckley or Henderson that you're saying to me? Maybe he's just as chickenshit as you are"
"Steve is the bravest person I know. There's no way he'd be too scared to talk to me"
"Oh, but that is with battles against foes, my dear friend. This is a battle of the heart. A battle he had previously lost before, scorned by the woman you so irrationally fear will always have a claim to it" Y/N couldn't help but laugh a bit, Eddie always had a way of making everything theatrical. She stopped when she noticed the cheesy grin on his face slip into something more earnest.
"In all seriousness Y/N... Nancy is a great girl, she's just not great for Steve. Not like you are. I saw your face back in the Upside Down, I saw how you shut down when she said that shit to Steve. I truly and honestly believe she didn't mean anything by it, not how you think she meant it. Even if she did, it doesn't matter. Steve doesn't love her like that, it's so obvious a blind man could see it"
"You really think so?" Y/N allowed herself to hope. She knew Eddie would never lie to her, not with something like this. The guy was painfully observant. He noticed things most people ignored, noticed people who were ignored. If he genuinely believed Steve loved her back, then maybe Y/N could finally accept it as the truth. When she truly thought about it, Steve had changed over the past eight months. He was more affectionate with her, touched her more, vulnerable with her. Yes he was like that before they got married, but it wasn't to the same extent. It all suddenly clicked for her.
"I'm willing to bet my B.C. Rich on it" Eddie said with a grin.
"Thank you Eddie, really. You have no idea how much this means to me" there was a new phase in her plan, a revision of sorts. When everything Vecna was all said in done, she was going to tell Steve she loved him. That she wanted to stay married, start a family, do everything they said that drunken summer night in Vegas. She wanted to be with him, and she wanted him to know.
"Anytime Mrs. Harrington" Eddie briefly wrapped his arms around the her, a quick squeeze before he let go again. "But just so you know, I totally claim your first born. He shall be known as Edward Harrington, first of his name, in my honor"
"What if it's a girl?" Y/N chuckled, full knowing Steve would never go for it.
"Edwardette?"
"That's just awful and you know it" she was pretty sure that wasn't even a real name. Edwina sure, but not Edwardette. Poor child would get crucified in school with a name like that.
"We've got time to storyboard names later" Eddie grinned.
"We're here, everybody out" Steve barked from the front seat. Y/N shared a knowing smile with the man beside her before she got up to leave. Even though they were all preparing for battle, a fight that they could all very well lose, Y/N couldn't help but feel a massive weight lift off her chest. Perhaps luck was on her side after all.
Or perhaps she spoke too soon. As soon she left the RV, she could feel Steve's icy stare on the back of her head. Y/N wanted to help him and Robin with the molotov cocktails, but when she offered Steve told her they had it covered. His voice was cold, lacking all the warmth he usually had when he spoke to her. At first she chalked it up to pre-battle nerves. Yet, as she worked with Nancy on sawing of the shotgun barrel, Y/N noticed the glare Steve was giving Eddie from his spot in front of the RV. It was so quick, how Steve went from hot to cold with him. They were getting along fine in the Upside Down, but now he was looking at Eddie like he slashed the tires on his BMW.
Fifteen minutes of target practice was all she could handle, she needed to know what was wrong with him. As she walked towards the RV, she could see Robin shoving Steve's shoulder to get his attention. When they made eye contact, it almost halted her step completely. He looked defeated, as if he had zero fight within him. It was the same look he had the night she found him on Halloween, the night Nancy broke up with him. Something was wrong, terribly, horribly, wrong.
"Can we talk?" Y/N asked, her voice as calm as she could make it.
"Oh now you want to talk? Done giving me the silent treatment then, Y/N?" That was fair. She had been ignoring him, he had every right to be upset.
"Please Stevie, it's important" the nickname always calmed him down. He often told her how much he liked it when she called him that.
"Fine" Steve sighed as walked inside the Winnebago. Apparently it wouldn't work this time. Y/N glanced at Robin, who all but refused to make eye contact with her. Yes, something was definitely wrong. She quietly followed behind Steve, closing the metal door shut behind her. He was sitting in the same spot she occupied earlier, his face staring at the window instead of her. She desperately wanted to be close to him, wrap her arms around him and tell him everything was going to be okay. Deep down she knew it wasn't the right time, he needed some space. Y/N sat down next to him, a safe distance apart. It wasn't the right move.
"What do you want Y/N?" his voice wasn't cruel, or bitter, not a touch of anger. It was empty. No emotion at all. Y/N couldn't help but feel that was worse.
"What's wrong Stevie? I know something upset you, please talk to me"
"Surprised you even want to, seems you talked enough with Munson back here" a bitter laugh escaped Steve's throat, a sound she never wanted to hear again, not directed to her.
"Eddie? What does he have to do with anything?" Y/N didn't understand his problem. Eddie was her friend, although she wasn't as close to him as Steve was with Robin, it wasn't any different. It was platonic, with a capital P.
"I just find it funny how one second you're chewing Jason out for calling our marriage bullshit, then the next you're sitting pretty in another man's arms. I know I wasn't the best in school, but I know that math doesn't add up"
Y/N was gobsmacked. She could feel the old Hopper temper rise within her, threatening to bust open at the seams. How Steve could sit there and pout because Eddie consoled her, while he could do whatever the fuck it was he was doing with Nancy was completely beyond her.
"Are you insinuating I have a thing for Eddie?!"
"I'm not insinuating that you don't" Steve bit out.
"Oh, that's real nice Steve. If you want to talk about things for other people, why don't we discuss you flirting with Nancy right in front of me!" Y/N tried to keep her voice down, the walls of the Winnebago were thin, but there was only so much she could do. The walls were crumbling down, everything she hid away forcing itself to the forefront.
"What are you talking about? I wasn't flirting with Nancy" Each brick turned to ash at her feet with every word Steve spoke. It was only a matter of time before she unleashed it all.
"That shit at skull rock? You're gonna look me in the eye and tell me that wasn't flirting?!"
"It wasn't like that-" Steve tried to finish, but she wouldn't let him.
"It sure as hell looked that way to me!" Y/N yelled without a single care if anyone else could hear her, "first it was all that shit with the library, then it was all that tension in the Upside Down, and then you tell her about your plans to the future, how many kids you want to have, as if she's the woman you want that with!"
"No, of course not?! What?!"
"You heard me! How could you do that Steve, how could you say that to her?" the tears were falling down her face, Y/N couldn't stop them if she tried. "You said that to me on our fucking wedding night Steve! Did it mean nothing to you?! Is our entire marriage bu-"
"Bullshit?" Steve asked, his voice filled with hurt. Y/N finally stopped to look at him, really look at him. His eyes were wet, tear marks dripping down his face, jaw tight with fear. He looked broken. It nearly broke Y/N too.
"No Stevie, never. I would never think anything with you was bullshit. I don't care if everyone else does, I won't"
"Then what. Finish the sentence"
Y/N took a deep breath, it wasn't the time for fighting. Not with Steve. "Is our entire marriage built on a fantasy I made in my head..."
"What..." If Y/N didn't have her entire focus on Steve, she would have never have heard the whisper that escaped his lips. It was barely audible, as if he didn't mean to say it. He just let it out.
"I'm terrified Stevie. So fucking scared all the time and you have no idea" Y/N gathered every ounce of courage she had. It was now or never, time to let everything out on the table. She couldn't afford to wait until after the battle, it had to be done now. "I'm afraid that I'm just a place holder for Nancy, that she is who you're meant to be with. Everything that Jason said, it keeps me up at night that he's right. It kills me inside to think that you will never love me the way I love you"
The walls had crumbled down around her. It left Y/N feeling naked, vulnerable. She always kept things locked away, ever since her mom left. It was better to push away, to not let people close so they couldn't hurt her again, but Y/N was tired. Tired of keeping the walls up, laying down more bricks to protect herself. She didn't want to shut Steve out, she wanted to let him in.
"And I know I shouldn't be this way, that you're not mine to keep. That if Nancy wants you I couldn't fault her for that, because who wouldn't? You're amazing Steve, my favorite person in the whole world. You're everything a girl could ever dream of; brave, strong, loyal, kind, beautiful. So fucking beautiful, inside and out. You shine so bright and I'm afraid that I don't belong in your light. The best day of my life was becoming your wife, and even if it hurts knowing you wouldn't have done it if you were sober, I will never regret becoming Mrs. Harrington"
Everything was quiet after she finished, the only thing Y/N could hear was the pounding of her heart inside her chest. It felt like hours of silence, all consuming dreadful silence, before Steve finally broke it. He started laughing, and the black hole was growing faster inside her.
"Holy shit, Henderson was right. I'm never gonna live it down when he hears about this"
"You're being mean Steve. I thought you grew out of mocking girls for their feelings..."
Steve immediately stopped laughing, his eyes wide with horror. He reached out to hold both sides of her face, leaning into her center of gravity.
"Oh, Y/N, no. It's not what you think sweet girl," Steve began, gently resting his forehead against hers, "Dustin was right that you didn't hear me that night. This whole time I thought you did, but I was wrong"
"Hear what?" Y/N whispered, soft and slow.
"When I told you I loved you, only you. I said it day one sweet girl, and I haven't stopped loving you since"
It wasn't the first kiss she shared with Steve, but it felt like one. First kisses can be tentative, unsure. They can also be filled with heat, breathing each other in as if they were the only source of oxygen left on the planet, fierce and desperate. The best ones were like this. Steve kissed her like he had all the time in the world, savoring every moment they were connected. Y/N could taste the salt from their shared tears, sure they were the last to be shed for a time. Inside that beat up Winnebago was pure serenity. That's what felt like to kiss Steve, safety, peace. All of the worries, fears of the Upside down and all its creatures were washed clean.
Y/N didn't know how she ever considered waiting until the battle lines were drawn and finished. How she could ever risk facing Vecna without telling Steve she loved him, without hearing he loved her too. It seemed foolish in hindsight, and Dustin wasn't the only one who wouldn't let them live it down. Eddie was sure to boast about how he was right all along. Y/N knew she'd let him, as long as Steve was by her side to take the heat with her.
Maybe Richard Bach wasn't so much of a dick after all. If you love somebody, set them free. If they return, they were always yours. Y/N may have fallen hard for Steve, but he fell for her first.

When the littles are together Billy is the most little of them, right? So he could drop more because he feels safe with his big sis and big bro? Or getting upset for not understanding the games or what are they talking about?
man oh man, bills is definitely our Littlest of the bunch!
- robin makes such a good big sister. even though she’s not that much older than billy, she keeps an eye on him.
- empty sippy cup? not for long! robin is so attentive to billy’s drinks that the boy doesn’t ever have to ask for more when she’s around. even if the cups only half empty, she’ll make sure stevie knows he needs more.
- billy looks sleepy? “mama i think we’re done with toys, we should watch a movie! i’ll even go get my blankets!” and she wraps it around billy’s shoulders and lets him choose where he wants to lay down (its always the couch. always).
- and robin seems to have a sixth sense for when billy is feeling self-conscious about being Smaller Than Normal, so she tries hard to make sure that he knows it's okay. she brings him his pacifier or some of his softer toys, offering to play quieter games with him.
- eddie is a big brother in every sense of the word. he tries really hard to be well-behaved and set a good example, but sometimes eddie is just too excited.
- he can be loud and boisterous (on the days he talks!) and sometimes that startles billy, especially when billy is feeling smaller
- one day billy was cuddled up against eddie on the couch while they were watching a movie and stevie was cleaning the kitchen, and eddie suddenly sat up, nearly vibrating with excitement and said "we should go play outside!"
- the outburst had scared billy, who had been contently zoned out against his big brother, and immediately tears filled his eyes and his lip wobbled.
- "no no no! im sorry billy!" eddie gasped, realizing that he was the reason the baby was crying. "i didn't mean to scare you!"
- and eddie doesn’t want steve to think that he made billy cry on purpose! so he quickly reaches for tank, who had been dropped in surprise, and pushes him back into billy’s arms. “here! its ok, billy, i promise! i’m sorry!”
- deep down, billy knows eddie didn’t mean to scare him, so he takes tank from eddie and then holds his arms out for a hug.
- eddie decides maybe they shouldn’t play outside after all, and just hugs billy and settles back down for the rest of the movie.
- but billy always wants to be involved when robin and eddie play games, even if he’s Way Too Small to be playing games.
- sometimes he’s happy to team up, but other times he wants to play on his own!!! and robin and eddie don’t want billy sad, so they let him.
- but “life” is not nearly as fun as it looks, because it’s hard! eddie and robin are reading cards and moving their pieces everywhere, but billy just doesn’t get it! he’s too Little to worry about stuff like that! he just wants to push his little car around the board.
- “you can’t do that, billy! it’s not your turn!” “aw man, you gotta pay taxes!” what are taxes?! this game isn’t fun!
- this game is stupid, billy decides. he’s still sitting next to eddie, but he’s drawn his knees to his chest and is hiding his face. “d-don’t wanna p-play no m-more!” he sniffles when robin points out that it’s billy’s turn. “it’s t-too hard!”
- eddie reaches out and pats at billy’s head like he’s seen steve do a million times. “we can play “candyland” after this instead?” the brunette offers. “when robin and i finish this one?”
- billy peeks up above his knees, eyebrow raised. he likes “candyland”! “c-can i keep m-moving m-my car?” he whispered meekly, pointing to the green plastic piece. “i d-don’t l-like the b-boring stuff.”
- “fine. you roll and move your car,” robin agreed. “and then when me and eddie finish, we’ll all play “candyland”!”
- so while robin and eddie play “life” and collect families and goals and try to win, billy is happy to be included, rolling the dice and pushing his car around.
- he doesn’t understand why eddie and robin like this game so much, but he just likes spending time with them. so he’ll play their silly game until it’s time for the good games. like “candyland”.

Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)
Chapter One: Edge of Seventeen
Billy Hargrove x Reader (Series)
Tumblr media
Summary: After the events of last year, all (Y/N) Hopper can do is hope for a bit of normal. But having an adopted sister with superpowers, a gaggle of 13 year olds to tend to, and a new boy in town, things are bound to get stranger.
part two! part three!
(A/N: reader is hopper’s daughter but as a mixed person, i’m just pretending that his ex wife was hispanic, and that sarah was just mixed, too. also, i tried to use y/n as little as possible, but i still used it a few times. sorry!)
*****
“You better be in there, or you’re grounded.” Hopper stood on the other side of her bedroom door. He always decided to be particularly annoying at 6:30 in the morning, and he loved to bring up the fact that she had snuck out literally one time 2 years prior.
“Jesus, Dad, you’re so annoying!” She buried her face into her pillow and flipped him off through the door when she heard him let out a low chuckle, after which he approached Eleven’s door next.
“You up? It’s time for breakfast.” He sounded muffled, but (Y/N) could clearly hear the difference in tone.
It was strange, and she felt guilty to even suggest this, but ever since El had moved in, Hopper seemed to be finding more and more faults within his own daughter. Nothing too serious, but he teased more and acted like she wasn’t nearly 18, for god’s sake. Lately, he had become a helicopter parent, and it was especially embarrassing when he would insist on driving her places with his big police car.
“Are you coming to eat?” Eleven knocked softly, her words deliberate and well practiced during her time alone.
“Yeah, just let me piss first.” It was fun to teach El the things Hopper wouldn’t, like swear words and pop culture. She always giggled when learning about things she knew Hopper would disapprove of.
“Real good example for El, huh?” He stood against the wall as she opened the door.
She just rolled her eyes, stepping past him and to the bathroom.
Looking in the mirror for a moment, she noticed the bags under her eyes. After the events of last year, she had frequent nightmares. Men in suits coming to take Eleven away, demogorgons chasing her through the woods, Jonathan and Nancy taking Barb’s place. They came every night and terrorized what little sleep she got, dominating her subconscious with ferocity. It was getting harder now that it had been around a year, and it probably didn’t help that she spent most of her free time with the Byers, witnessing Will’s recovery first hand.
She pissed and washed her hands, opting to brush her teeth after she ate.
“I am confused. What is Halloween?” El turned to her sister of less than a year as soon as she walked into the main area of the cabin. The little superhero pointed at the television and an ad for a horror movie marathon on Halloween Night played softly.
“It’s a holiday! Kids dress up in costumes and get candy from neighbors, and teenagers usually just watch scary movies and go to parties.”
“No parties.” Hopper walked to the little dining table and placed 3 plates of eggs and bacon.
It was like he had a vendetta against the other kids her age in Hawkins. His deep disdain for the kids Steve used to hang around made sense, but he really only liked Jonathan and sometimes Nancy at this point. Maybe Steve, if he wasn’t being too annoying that day. It was pretty frustrating that the only person she could hang out with and get no complaints from her dad was constantly busy, either with some job he was doing or obsessing after Nancy. But, she couldn’t complain. She was pretty sure that whenever she started liking someone, she would be pretty annoying about it, too.
“I wasn’t born yesterday, Dad. Also, I was wondering if I could sleepover at Robin’s on Saturday?”
Robin was the best friend (Y/N) could ever ask for. After meeting at work, the animal shelter, they instantly hit it off. It didn’t matter that Robin was a year younger, or that she didn’t know about the Upside Down. She was a good friend, who actually cared about her, and genuinely wanted what was best for the both of them. Even Hopper had to admit that.
“Yeah, that’s fine. I can give you some money for pizza if you want.” He smiled gently, glancing over at his daughters.
He truly did love them. After Sarah, when his wife left, he completely expected (Y/N) to follow her mother. But she didn’t. She chose her dad, and he felt so lucky that she wanted to be with him. He’d watched her grow from just a little baby to the beautiful young woman she was becoming, and honestly, he couldn’t be more proud, even if he did want her to stay a child a little longer. And Eleven? God, did he feel bad for her. He had overheard some of the late night talks his daughters had in the small cabin, heard the horror stories of Hawkins Lab. How a 13 year old girl had still managed to come out of a childhood like that and still be so kind? It baffled him, but he was grateful anyway. Sure, he couldn’t take her to the movies like he wanted to, and sure, he couldn’t have a picture of her in his office. But he was just grateful to have saved her in the woods before something truly awful could happen to her. And most of all, he was grateful that they got along and actually cared about each other.
“Come eat your breakfast, we’re leaving in 20 minutes.”
*****
As she walked the hallways of Hawkins High she fiddled with the pendant of her matching necklace that she had bought for herself and Eleven. It was a little blue flower pendant on a silver chain, and they both wore it every single day. Once, Eleven thought she had lost it during her shower, but since she never left the cabin, it was pretty easy to find.
“Hey, I was looking for you!” Robin bounced up and linked their arms together.
“My dad said Saturday’s cool. I just want to be back by noon on Sunday.” She couldn’t tell Robin, but she had been promising El that they would have a Star Wars marathon, as it was something Mike liked, and honestly, (Y/N) enjoyed them, too.
“That’s fine. My mom got some weird foot scrub thing that’s supposed to take all the dead skin off. Did you know the white flaky shit on your heels is dead skin?! I thought it was like, cellulite for your foot. Maybe I’m crazy, though. Also, she has a coupon for Family Video if you wanna rent a movie. A Nightmare On Elm Street just came out, and there’s Johnny Depp for you and Heather Langenkamp for me. Although, you probably like Heather, too. Oh, and—” Robin rambled, but it was totally endearing. Usually she just talked until she tired herself out or something interrupted her.
“Hey!” Steve saddled up beside (Y/N), paying Robin no mind. “Did you hear that there’s a new kid?”
Honestly, she hadn’t. She usually had her walkman playing as she walked around, but today she forgot it. Still, with Robin in her ear, she had missed the gossip.
“Yeah? Where are they from?”
“California, I think. Name’s Billy or something. He pulled up in this loud ass Camaro and scared the shit out of Eleanor Nichols.” Steve ran his hand through his hair and slung an arm around his friend.
They had become a bit close last year when all of the shit with the lab had calmed down. Steve was a really nice person to talk to since she didn’t want to bother Jonathan now that his brother was back. He was totally different than what she had expected, but she still felt a little guilty liking him so much when she knew he was with the girl Jonathan wanted.
“Wonder why he would come here of all places.” She mused to herself, waving at both Robin and Steve as she walked into her class. Steve and Robin didn’t even look at each other as they both walked in different directions.
*****
Jonathan slid into the seat next to her at lunch, a routine they always followed. They handed each other half their sandwich, a PB&J for a turkey and cheese. It was something they had done since they were kids, and they didn’t plan on stopping anytime soon.
“My mom is wondering when you’re gonna come by again.”
“Oh, whenever! I’ve just been a little busy with El, she’s been really clingy. Not that I mind, obviously. I just always feel guilty leaving her alone so long that I really only do my own shit on the weekends when Hopper’s home.”
“No, that makes sense. I hate dropping Will off at school, I just wish I could go with him.” Jonathan ate his chips, passing the bag to her.
“You wanna be in middle school again?” She laughed and took a handful.
“Fuck, no. I’m done with swirlies.”
Unfortunately, both her and Jonathan dealt with a lot of bullying in middle school. Why did kids think it was funny that someone’s parents were divorced? And holy shit, when they found out her sister had died, she had a huge target on her back.
“Hear about the new kid?” Jonathan scribbled in his notebook, some english assignment he didn’t do last night.
“That’s all anyone’s talking about. I haven’t seen him, though.”
“The girl behind me in third period called him ‘pure sex’. What does that even mean?”
As if the universe was listening to him, Billy Hargrove pushed through the double doors separating the hall and the cafeteria, a black leather jacket and blue denim jeans adorning his body. With an AC/DC graphic t-shirt, one dangly silver earring, a cigarette, and pure confidence, he strolled past the staring masses and sat alone at a table. He winked at Holly Peterson, a preacher’s daughter, to which she gasped and turned back around.
“That’s what it means, Byers. That guy has totally had a threesome.”
“Dude!”
“No, you physically can’t tell me he hasn’t.”
“…”
“My point, exactly.”

Robin was constantly late, and it was pretty much her only flaw. She mostly forgot about time, and only remembered when she was already late. Luckily, the animal shelter was about a 10 minute walk away from the high school, so they could run and just change into their uniforms at work.
It was actually a pretty decent job. Feeding the cats and dogs, taking the dogs on walks, petting the cats, changing the litter boxes, cleaning the kennels, petting the dogs, helping with adoptions, and manning the front desk. The best part, however, was seeing how happy the animals got when the girls walked into their section. Even the meanest, grumpiest animals just needed a little love and understanding. And, honestly, something awful probably had to have happened for them to turn out that way, so (Y/N) approached every situation with empathy and a limitless well of understanding.
The best dog in the entire kennel was named Yosemite, and he was a little rottweiler. He was found in an abandoned trailer, starving and cold, but he was taken to the shelter where (Y/N) had worked tirelessly to bring him back up to a healthy weight. Honestly, Yosemite was her passion project. She had been begging Hopper to let her adopt him, stating that a dog would be good protection for Eleven, and honestly, Hopper was coming around.
Honestly, Hopper was running late. Although he usually picked up his daughter after every shift, he was nowhere to be found at by 7:30, 45 minutes after her shift had ended.
Robin had offered to stay, but (Y/N) insisted her dad was on the way and would flip when he arrived and she wasn’t there. So Robin left, and she waited.
“Thanks, Dad. I’d totally love to walk home after sunset in October. Nah, I’m sure I’ll be fine. It’s not like I’m an attractive teenage girl alone at night with no way to defend myself.” She pulled herself together and began her walk home, about 10 miles. “I’ll get there in two motherfucking months!”
She didn’t even care about how hungry she was, how exhausted. Pure anger fueled her walk, annoyance at her dad. She really hoped he had a good excuse, like some police emergency. If she found out he was just at home sleeping she was going to go apeshit.
She had actually made it about 2 miles (45 minutes later) when a recognizable white ford pickup sped by, splashing her with a freezing roadside puddle.
“FUCK!” She screamed, completely drenched and furious. She knew that truck. It belonged to Jackson Mulroney, the baseball captain. He was a shitty guy who had been arrested once by Hopper for sexual assault, eventually getting the charges dropped by his daddy’s lawyer. He was gross, and he most likely did it on purpose.
She sat down on the muddy ground, not caring at this point. She cried, like truly ugly cried. She was freezing and hungry and still had around 3 more hours of walking to do, depending on how long she stayed there. Cars whizzed past, and she hoped they didn’t recognize her, but she just couldn’t bring herself to keep walking.
Some time later, a blue Camaro slowly stopped next to where she rested. The passenger side window rolled down.
“You alright?” A deep voice spoke, their face obstructed by the darkness of the evening.
“No.”
“Need a ride?”
She stood, knowing far too much about serial killer tactics from Hopper to trust this stranger so easily.
“No, I don’t think so.” She turned and kept walking, adrenaline pushing her along.
“Well, how far have you got to go?” He drove alongside her.
“None of your business.”
A passing car’s headlights illuminated the person inside.
It was Billy Hargrove.
“Look, I can’t just let you walk god knows how far, soaking wet when it’s 45 degrees outside. Get in the car.”
“I’m muddy and going to get your seats wet.”
He rummaged around in the backseat, eventually finding a towel and laying it across the passenger seat.
“I really don’t know why you have a towel back there.” She opened the door and could practically hear Hopper screaming at her to not get in the car, but it was his fault she was out here anyway.
“Nah, you don’t.”
She slid into the seat, the heated air a welcome sensory change. “Oh, shit. It’s so warm in here.”
“Yeah. I hate the cold.” He shook his head and turned the volume of his radio down.
“You’re from California, right? Left up here, by the way.”
“So, you’ve heard of me?” He smiled as he turned left.
“Everyone has. I’m (Y/N) Hopper.”
He repeated her name as if he was committing it to memory.
“Can I ask why you’re soaking wet? It hasn’t rained since this morning.”
“Because my dad never picked me up from work and after I just decided to walk, Jackson fucking Mulroney drive by at 85 miles per hour through a puddle.”
“Damn. I know all about shitty dads.”
“He’s not shitty. But he’s the chief of police,” a good fact to mention just in case he was a serial killer after all, “so he’s just always really busy. Turn right here.” She was pissed at her dad, sure, but she was adamant that he was still a good father.
“Oh.” Billy wasn’t sure what to say.
“I’m just gonna rant to you for a minute. Is that okay?”
“Go right ahead, Princess.”
She felt heat rise to her cheeks ever so slightly and nodded.
“He’s usually there early, so there better be a good fucking excuse for this. I mean, I started walking at 7:30, and now it’s…” she checked Billy’s watch, her own needing a new battery after getting soaked, “8:37!”
“Maybe there was a problem at the station.” Seeing this girl he didn’t really know so frustrated was weird for Billy. He wasn’t used to people opening up so easily, being so transparent with their thoughts and feelings, let alone swearing about it. Billy was used to girls being coy, playing the long game. He really liked her frankness and honesty.
“I fucking hope so. Shit, I don’t mean I want there to be a problem.” She bit her lip as she briefly considered that there were more Upside Down related problems.
“He could have at least arranged for someone to pick you up, though.”
“I didn’t even consider that!”
Billy chucked at her outrage and kept driving. She really did have a long ass way to walk.
“You can let me out here. My house is like, actually in the woods, so I’m fine.” She started to unbuckle and Billy shook his head.
“How far into the woods?”
“Like a 4 minute drive, it’s fine.” She started to open the door, but he stretched across the center console and shut it for her.
“I’m not about to let you get eaten by a bear or some shit.” He pulled into a little side road and she led the way.
“Thank you, by the way.”
“Don’t mention it.”
She got the impression that Billy was someone who really cared about his reputation. His perfectly styled hair, the flashy car, the really good cologne. She would have felt embarrassed about being muddy in such an attractive boy’s car, but she was so tired at this point that she couldn’t bring herself to care. She could agonize over it later.
“I’ll make it up to you somehow. Need a lunch buddy?”
“A lunch buddy?” He laughed, like actually laughed. He hadn’t heard that term since second grade.
“Yeah, me and my friend Jonathan sit near the bathrooms. Sometimes we sit outside in the spring. You can join us if you want to.”
“You know, I might take you up on that. That annoying chick Carrie or something will not leave me alone.”
“Carol? Yeah, she sucks ass. She started a rumor in middle school that I was a cult leader. Can you imagine a 12 year old sacrificing virgins?”
They were approaching the cabin and Hopper’s van wasn’t outside. Eleven had been alone way longer than usual.
“This your castle, Princess?”
“The one and only. Thanks, Billy. I’ll see you tomorrow?”
“Table near the bathrooms. Got it.” He flashed a charming grin, very practiced and perfected. She tried not to swoon as she walked up to the steps.
She knocked in the specific pattern El knew as Billy peeled off. His engine was extremely loud.
“Late.” Eleven called from her bedroom.
“Yeah, Dad never picked me up. A friend had to drive me home.” Were they friends? Not really, but it just seemed like a lot to explain to the young teenager.
“Hopper is not home?” She stepped out of her room and into the main area.
“No. Did you eat yet?”
“Why are you so dirty?”
“I got splashed. Let me change and I’ll make some macaroni and cheese.” She walked past Eleven and into her bedroom.
Where the fuck was Hopper?
*****
The next day, gossip around Hawkins High was that Billy Hargrove had beat up Jackson Mulroney. Jackson had gone home with two black eyes, a split lip, and a broken nose. When asked why, Billy just shrugged and said, “Fucker should drive carefully.” The irony wasn’t lost on him.
“I’m serious, I haven’t seen someone that injured since I fucked up Steve in the alleyway.” Jonathan laughed to himself in the cafeteria at the table near the bathrooms.
“Which you got arrested for, so don’t try to act all cool.”
“Still fucked him up.” It was a point of pride for Jonathan, something he knew he had over the boy Nancy seemed to like so much.
(Y/N) rolled her eyes. She absolutely planned on asking Billy about it when he sat down. Was this over last night? Jackson obviously deserved it, but she couldn’t believe Billy would do something like that for a near stranger. She was almost certain something else must have happened between them.
“Shut up and eat your sandwich.”
Seemingly appearing out of nowhere, Billy sauntered over to the pair. He had been given detention, but didn’t mind much. It wasn’t like that was new for him.
“Hello, Princess. You’re Jonathan?” He sized up the boy sitting with his new friend.
“Hey, man. Yeah.” Jonathan nodded and stuck out his hand for Billy to shake. It was firm, not particularly aggressive or friendly.
“Sit! We were actually just talking about you.” Billy raised his eyebrows, again admiring her candor. “Heard about your little scuffle with Jackson.” She took a really big bite of the turkey and cheese.
“Did you? Well, I’m pretty sure you know why.”
Jonathan glanced between the two. She had mentioned that they would have a guest at lunch but she didn’t mention that it would be Billy. She had also mentioned that someone had driven her home after Hopper didn’t show, and Jonathan connected the dots.
“Jackson splashed you?” He was pretty mad.
“Yeah, it doesn’t matter. Clearly, Billy handled it for me.” She gave him a small smile and slid him her apple and chips. “Where’s your lunch?”
He didn’t have one. Neil and Susan didn’t grocery shop, they just brought home shitty fast food or let Max and Billy fend for themselves. He’d had too many cans of chili this week, usually just eating dinner anyway.
“Forgot it. Thanks.” He was secretly extremely grateful and couldn’t believe he’d found the one nice person in Hawkins, Indiana.
“We share food all the time. I have a banana if you want it.” Jonathan offered, holding it out for Billy.
“Sure. Thanks.” Two nice people.

It only makes sense for Steve to have this massive guilt complex when everyone else is pointing out how much of an asshole he used to be like every other sentence, the way that most of these fics seem to have everyone doing. With how often so much fic has everyone constantly reminding Steve that he was an asshole, it's understandable that he would internalise it and start to feel guilty.
BUT, it's not realistic to have everyone pointing out that he was an asshole, because it almost never happens in the show.
-The kids refer to him as a douchebag in s1, but that's before they met or got to know him
-Jonathan thinks of Steve as an asshole but that is a very biased point of view. He was also an asshole to Steve, and seems to refuse to see the possibility of Steve's growth as a person, despite the evidence being right in front of him
-Robin said Steve was a douchebag, but admitted it was based on very little and that she was jealous
-Eddie said he thought Steve was a douchebag, but admitted that his judgement was wrong and based off of incorrect assumptions he made based off of other factors, like Steve coming from a rich family
So basically 4 times in 4 seasons people have commented about Steve being an asshole. Three of them were before they'd really met and for to know Steve and two of them admitted that the judgement was wrong.
So yeah, Steve isn't having this massive guilt complex, because no one is constantly reminding him that he was an asshole when he was 16.
You're so right, like yes he does seem regretful when people bring up him being a douchebag but as you said... No one actually does that often??? Robin along with calling him a jerk also says he's "Mr. Cool, Mr. Funny" which I think shows what most people typically thought of him.
The kids thing doesn't even phase me lmao. Like of course the middle school aged sibling and his friends are going to think his older sister's boyfriend with the nice hair and the flashy car is going to be a douchebag. Tbh I'd be more surprised if they liked him before spending time with him, especially with how wrapped up in Nancy he was.
The Jonathan and Eddie ones are the most funny to me though because like, Jonathan also rails into Nancy for being "shallow" and then claims he's able to see her true self after taking stalker pics of her. Why are we taking s1 Jonathan at his word there. Jonathan and Steve clearly didn't interact much before the photos and the suspected cheating, considering that Steve also gives Tommy shit for the "I think he killed his brother" comment.
And the Eddie one dfigjdirgjsir He is sooo my way or the highway he very clearly judges people based on appearances, and Steve is a rich jock of course he assumes he's an asshole. He makes fun of everyone across the spectrum of popularity for conforming in his intro scene. And you're right! He also admits his assumptions were wrong! Idk why fandom loves to forget that Eddie actively 1) admitted weirdo supremacy, jocks suck world view was wrong, and 2) that he was specifically wrong about Steve.
I think if people were reminding Steve of his past "transgressions" more, we would like? Get some acknowledgement of that on screen? Not only because I think you're right, it's the only way Steve would obtain a guilt complex that that but also because presumably Steve would be upset about it instead of just taking it? He would make comments about people always bringing it up or saying that people are right instead of acknowledging his change or moving past it.
There's no reason aside for whump for why Steve should be guilt complexing this hard, especially over like being a bit of a dick teenager which, everyone in the show is lol.

Hellfire and Spitfire (pt.7)
Tumblr media
CW: spoilers(duh), regular fluff, story addition, sexual content, angst, unrequited, friends to enemies to lovers, only one bed (sort of), angry kissing, aggressive seggs, hair pulling, blood, hand/ring fetish, size kink.
Word Count: 5.1k
Tumblr media
Your heart dropped into your ass. You, Robin, Nancy, and Eddie just watched as the bubbles dissipated where Steve had been sucked under.
“No! No! What the fuck was that man?” Eddie started freaking out, tousling his hair.
Nancy made to stand and leant over the edge of the boat.
“Wait, wait, wait. Nancy, you are not going down there!” You scolded your own older sister. What if something happened to her? She hadn’t seen what you saw. She didn’t know all of what Vecna was capable of, but the second Steve was in trouble, she was all too willing to dive in and save him.
“Just… wait here, okay?” She pointed into the boat and then jumped in feet first. The whole thing shook and you had to grab the sides to stabilize yourself.
You only took a second to consider before deciding. Your sister was down there. You took off your sweater, leaving only a tank top, and looked back at Eddie. He was already shaking his head.
“Wheeler, don’t you fucking dare. Nancy said to stay put!”
You responded by diving head first into the lake, swimming straight down. The cold of the water shocked your senses and stung your eyes. Just as your lungs were starting to ache for air, you saw it. A faint red glow surrounding a strange fleshy membrane. And then you felt it, a force tugging you in. It pulled you further and further in until you fell through the gate, landing what felt like the wrong way up. You tried to stand, disoriented. And when your vision finally came back into focus you found yourself in what seemed to be an exact copy of lovers lake, only barren. Across the empty lake, you saw movement. Small creatures, a bunch of them, swarming something. Then Nancy, batting at them with an oar. You broke into a full sprint toward them, hearing Robin’s voice behind you.
As you got closer you realized what was happening. Steve was on the ground being attacked by the little beasts, these ugly veiny little bat things. You picked up a large rock from off the ground and chucked it at the nearest bat-thing. Robin caught up and also began looking for something to throw, when Eddie appeared out of nowhere with his own oar, swinging it at every creature in sight. One had wrapped itself around Steve’s throat, and the lot of you fought off the ones that had decided to dine on Steve’s middle.
Eddie broke the oar on one, and used the now sharp bit to stab at them. Finally the rest of the bat-things were all either dead or fleeing.
Steve stood up and bit the last one trying to attack him, tearing it apart with his teeth and leaving nasty too-dark blood dripping from his mouth.
“Jesus H. fucking Christ!” Eddie yelled, throwing his oar spear to the dirt.
“Oh my god. What the hell?” You were dumbfounded, still no idea what just happened.
“Steve, are you okay?” Of course Nancy was immediately attending to Steve.
Just as Robin started to ramble about rabies, you zoned out. You’d seen the beasts and creatures born of it, but you’d never actually seen into the Upside Down before.
You looked up and around at everything. The landscape was dead and barren, except these weird vines that grew everywhere. The sky was a strange red tinge. All around you, these flaky particles like ash permeated the air. And then across the clearing to the other bank, way up in the sky, you noticed a swarm. Thousands of the little winged beasties making their way in your direction.
“Hey guys?” You called back toward the group, still focused on the swarm. Everyone noticed at once.
“The woods, come on!” Nancy ran for the tree line. She was fast in those damn boots.
Tumblr media
Soon you were back under the cover of skull rock, listening to the horde fly over and away. After they passed, you all got up to start walking. Before everyone could even get out from under the boulder, Steve fell against the rock face and just collapsed against the wall.
“Oh shit.”
“Steve? Steve!” You started to walk over but Nancy beat you to him, getting him to sit back down and dress his wounds. You tried not to let it get to you.
Instead you walked back to look around with Eddie, stealing a quick glance at Steve’s bloodied body before averting your gaze. You weren’t sure about how it made you feel to see him beaten up, bruised, and covered in blood. Ignoring the heat pooling in your belly, you turned to Eddie to try and make light conversation.
“You okay?”
“No. You?”
“No.”
For a moment it was quiet, then you looked at each other and sputtered laughing. How ridiculous was this?
“So I’m guessing you haven’t been here before either? On this side, I mean?” Eddie was squatting down next to where you sat on the ground. Robin had taken to reminding Steve and Nancy of the symptoms of rabies.
“Nope.” You looked around again.
“This place is fucking creepy.”
“I know right?” You blew warm air into your hands, and rubbed your arms for warmth. Eddie noticed and, without speaking, took off his leather jacket and put it around your shoulders. When you turned around to thank him, he had walked off towards the others. You took a moment to breathe in the smell of the jacket. It was dirty, and it had the faint smell of sweat and deodorant.
“So, uh, this place is like Hawkins, but with monsters and nasty shit?” Eddie had climbed his way up to the top of a rock protruding from the ground.
“Pretty much.” Nancy answered. You looked over to see Steve’s waist bandaged up with a ripped piece of cloth, which you then identified as Nancy’s sweater after seeing the ripped hem of her own top.
“Wait, watch out for the vines.” Eddie had started climbing down the rock to level ground when Nancy stopped him. “It’s all a hive mind.”
“It’s all a what?”
Steve jumped in to explain. “All the creepy crawlies around here, dude. They’re, like, one or something. Step on a vine, you’re stepping on a bat, you’re stepping on Vecna.”
“Shit.”
“But everything from our world is still here, right? Except people?” Robin asked, and you realized she’d never actually been in here either. While you, Eddie, and Robin were all totally inexperienced in this domain, Nancy and Steve had ventured down here more than once.
“As far as I understand it, yeah.”
“So, theoretically, we could go to the police station and steal guns and grenades and whatever we need to blow up those bat things that are guarding the gate.” You stopped to think about how far the police station was from here.
“I highly doubt the Hawkins PD has grenades, Robin.” Steve made a decent point. At this point you’d settle for a heavy stick to swat the veiny little shits back to their maker. “But guns, yeah sure.”
“Well, we don’t have to go all the way downtown for guns. I have guns. In my bedroom.” Nancy interjected, and you were taken totally aback.
“Hold on, what? Nance you have guns in the house? And you didn’t think to let me know?”
“You, Nancy Wheeler, have guns, plural, in your bedroom?”
“What the fuck?”
“A Russian Makarov and a revolver.” She explained, ignoring your confusion at the fact that there are guns in her room.
“Yeah, you almost shot me with that one.”
“You almost deserved it.” Nancy and Steve looked at each other for a little too long, when Eddie threw his vest at Steve, breaking the awkward moment. This left Eddie in nothing but his hellfire shirt.
“For your modesty, dude.”
The ground shook underneath you, casting you all to the ground, and a loud noise echoed out through the woods. You fell into Eddie’s arms. Turning to get a good grip on something stable, you grasped his shirt so tight you thought you might rip it.
“So guns seem like a pretty good idea to me.” Eddie said from above you.
Tumblr media
The five of you walked through the woods, all of you being careful not to step on vines or anything that might alert Vecna to your whereabouts. Robin and Nancy led the charge together, Steve slightly behind them, leaving you and Eddie at the tail end of the group. You and Eddie didn’t talk except to say thank you when he helped you over a few particularly large roots in the ground. You were grateful for the silence, it gave you time to think about everything.
Steve clearly still had feelings for Nancy, and no matter how many times you tried to get close to him, Nancy beat you to it. Jumping in the lake to save him, going through the gate, beating off bats, and even dressing his wounds. You weren’t sure if she knew how you felt and was blocking, or if she just maybe felt the same. Either way, a tiny spark of anger lit in your chest. She had Johnathan. Why would she even care if you finally admitted how you felt to Steve? What did she care? It was her fault that she and Steve had broken up in the first place. She didn’t give him the love he deserved, and then went to Johnathan. The spark quickly grew into a full fledged fire, heating up your face and ears. If it wasn’t so goddamned dark in this dimension, you were sure Eddie would have noticed the tips of your ears going pink.
“Eddie.” Steve fell farther behind the girls to come talk to Eddie. You let yourself linger back to let them speak. “Eddie. Hey, man. I just, uh.. I just want to say thanks. For saving my ass back there.”
You watched the boys walk from behind. Steve was wearing Eddie’s vest, and you weren’t sure how you felt about it. Despite being covered in dirt and dried blood, he looked good. What you hadn’t noticed, was that while Steve and Eddie were talking, Eddie turned around to check on you. He caught you looking at Steve. It burned him up inside, the way you looked at Harrington. He wished that you looked at him that way. Even still, he complimented Steve for his righteous move biting that bat.
You overheard Eddie talking about D&D for a second. Telling Steve that he was no hero, and that if it weren't for you, Rob, and Nancy, that he wouldn’t have jumped into the lake himself. It made you think of all the other things he’d done for you as children. Him and Wayne let you sleep in their trailer all the time. They’d fed you, even clothed you. You still had the old Metallica t-shirt Eddie had given you when you were twelve, only now it was a pajama shirt. If Nancy had caught you wearing a shirt like that out of the house, she’d have a fit.
Then you heard Eddie mention the name Wheeler, but you knew he didn’t mean you.
“I don’t know what happened between you two, but if I were you, I’d get her back.”
You didn’t wait to hear what more he said before walking around the boys and ahead towards your sister and Robin. The words struck something in the back of your throat, forming a lump that made it hard to swallow. You hoped that he had no idea how you felt about Steve. That he was just trying to be a wingman and encourage him to get out of his dating rut.
Eddie had known better.
Tumblr media
You’d finally made it to the house. You hadn’t walked close to Eddie for the rest of the trek, avoiding him if he tried catching up to you. You almost regretted it when you felt the ache in your legs, but then you’d remember what he said to Steve and suddenly were blessed with a burst of energy to keep moving. You led the group up to Nancy’s room, though everyone here but Eddie and Robin knew the way, a thought you tried to forget.
“Might be time to get a maid, Wheeler.” Robin joked.
“Come on, I don’t want to stay here longer than we have to.” She opened her closet and retrieved a shoebox. Nancy had been keeping her guns in a fucking shoebox on the top shelf in her closet. You were still baffled. When she opened the box, instead of guns, there were shoes, still wrapped in the paper they come in when you buy a new pair.
“Those aren’t guns.” Eddie stated, sounding nervous.
“No shit, Sherlock.” You said, probably a little harsher than was necessary.
“These heels are pointy, but I was hoping for a deadly projectile.” Rob chimed in.
“I don’t understand.”
“Maybe you left them somewhere else?”
“There’s a six year old in the house. I know where I keep my guns. Also I threw these away years ago.” Nancy looked around the room, and so did you. There were things you recognized, but some of them were old. Things she didn’t keep in her room anymore. Nancy rounded her bed and looked at her desk, seeing a bunch of flashcards. “These are from sophomore chemistry.”
You were reminded of when Nancy and Steve had started going out. Steve snuck in to ‘study’ with Nancy. You only knew because your rooms shared a wall and Steve was a klutz getting in and out of the window. Your cheeks began to heat up again. Nancy started pointing out things around the room she no longer kept or had given away.
“Nancy what’s going on?” You knew that sophomore year was the first time Nancy had been into the Upside Down. The year Will went missing, and then later her friend, Barb.
“I think the reason my guns aren’t here is because they don’t exist yet.” She rifled through a diary on the desk. “This diary should be full of entries. It’s not. The last entry is November 6, 1983. The day Will went missing. The day the gate opened. We’re in the past.”
Downstairs, you could hear Steve shouting.
“Dustin! Dustin!”
The rest of you ran back downstairs, only to find Steve yelling into the air, waving his flashlight around.
“Maybe he really does have rabies.” You and Robin giggled together.
“Steve, what are you doing?” Nancy finally asked him. He turned, startled, and shined the flashlight in your faces by accident.
“He’s here. Henderson. That little shit, he’s here. He’s like… he’s in the walls or something. Just listen.” He continued to shout for Dustin. And when you listened hard enough, you could hear him, too. Faintly, like he was in the other room. Once you noticed, everyone had started calling out to the kid, looking in the adjacent rooms. When nobody found anything you reconvened in the dining room.
“All right, either this kid can’t hear us, or he’s being a total douchebag.” Steve wiped the sweat off his brow. You glanced at the action, quickly averting your eyes. After the conversation the boys had earlier, you couldn’t stand to look at him.
“Will found a way.” Nancy chimed in.
“What?” You were still confused. You were in two different dimensions. And you hadn’t been filled in on all of the little details, but you had hoped that if interdimensional communication had been figured out by this group of bozos, that one of them might have told you about it.
“Will. He found a way to speak to Joyce through the lights.” This you did remember. Will had talked about Christmas lights and lamps in his room. Nancy went to the light switch and flicked it off and on a few times. “It’s not working.”
“Hey guys. You seeing this?” Steve had turned around to point out the light fixture in the ceiling. Around it, the particles that floated around it weren’t the usual ash-like type. Instead, they were like tiny little embers glowing and floating around the lights.
You gathered around the light, reaching up to stick your hand in the little sparks. They floated around your hand and between your fingers. And when you couldn’t think of a way to describe the feeling, Steve spoke up.
“It… tickles.”
“Does anyone know morse code?” Nancy asked the room, and you racked your brain for the morse code you were sure you still knew from living in the trailer park. You had picked it up for fun when you had nothing better to do. Everyone said no, until Eddie finally mentioned his minor insight.
“Wait, does SOS count?”
You almost physically facepalmed.
Tumblr media
Eddie started plucking out SOS in the particles by the lights. Over and over, three dots, three dashes. You could still hear Dustin talking to who you now recognized as Lucas and Erica. You couldn’t quite make out what they were saying, but you heard Vecna come through the veil a few times. You thought you heard Dustin mention ‘Watergate’ and ‘stupid’ in the same sentence, and you knew they had noticed. Then all the muffled talking quieted.
You needed to clear your head, so you stepped into your room for a smoke. Unfortunately for Eddie, he had left you with his jacket, which also meant that the few cigarettes that had survived the lake were also with you. Your room looked entirely different than it had three years ago. The bed sheets were a cute pink, with frilly laced edges. Your furniture at the time had been white, but in here it looked like the remains of a house fire. You avoided any vines or weird shit on the floor and sat on your bed, pulling out and lighting a cig with Eddie’s cheapo Bic lighter.
“Wheeler? You in here?” Eddie knocked on the doorframe as he entered the room. You realized he’d never been in your room since you moved. “Nice digs, princess.” You were too irritated with Eddie to find the nickname endearing.
“What do you want, Munson?”
“What crawled up your ass and died? I wanted a smoke and then I realized they were in the jacket pocket. But it seems like you already knew that.” He gestured to you blowing a puff of smoke out into the room. You moved to take off his jacket and hand it back to him.
“Here, you can have your jacket back. And what’s left of the cigs.”
He put his hand out, refusing to take it from you. “No, I know you’re cold. It’s fine.” You were cold, so you slipped it on again without argument.
“So did you want anything? Or just your smokes?”
“Just thought I’d check on you. It’s been a hard few days.”
“Eddie Munson checking in on me? We must be in an alternate dimension or something.”
“Ha, ha. No but really, are you okay? You’ve been kind of off today.” He sat down next to you on the bed, your legs touching just a little.
“I’m fine. Thanks, though.” You flicked ash off directly onto the bed. It felt weird, having no regard for smells or burns. At home in your real room, if Mom had caught you smoking, she’d have your ass.
“Are you sure? You’ve been weird since before we made it here.”
“Jesus Eddie, just leave it! I’m fine.” You were running out of patience for him right now. You took another stressed puff.
“I just don’t think it would hurt to talk about it, you know? It could be good for you to-”
“Oh yeah, Munson? And why would I take any kind of advice from you? You’re the town freak for fuck’s sake.” You felt bad as soon as you’d said it. His face dropped and he looked away from you. You almost apologized, but he just had to keep talking.
“At least I’m not still pining after some asshole who peaked in highschool.” He didn’t look up to gauge your reaction.
“What did you say?” Now he looked at you, staring directly into your eyes.
“You heard me. I know you’re in love with Harrington.”
“You don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about, Eddie.” You could feel the tears welling up in your eyes. You forced them back, it would be all too embarrassing to cry in front of him right now, mostly because he was right. You stood up to walk out of the room, away from him. Away from this conversation.
“Oh I don’t? The day you came to stay with me at Rick’s, why was that? You didn’t care about seeing me, you just wanted away from him because it's clear he’s still into your damn sister!”
“Shut up!” You turned to yell at him, at this point it was likely the rest of the gang had heard you two.
“Get over yourself. Harrington is in love with Nancy, and she doesn’t even want him anymore. That’s how it is. If you can’t figure that out then you’re not as smart as I thought you were.”
“You don’t fucking get it, Eddie.” You wiped tears from the corners of your eyes. He just kept looking at you.
“I know you probably don’t care anymore, but we were friends at one point. Before you got adopted into the Wheeler clan, you were trailer trash. Just like me. I know who you are. You’re just too pussy to admit it to yourself.” He stood up, getting in your space. “And the dumbest part is you don’t even realize how great you are. You know why I think it’s so stupid that you’re hung up on him?” He was too close, so close to your face that you could smell his last cigarette on his breath.
“Because you could do so much better. Steve doesn’t even know how good he could have it. He doesn’t deserve you.”
You couldn’t move. You were rooted to your spot in between your door and the bed, and Eddie was right there with you. It was hard to breathe. When it looked like he might say something else, Robin called from the next room over.
Eddie left first. He just stepped around you out the door. You took a moment to compose yourself. You were sure your face would be splotchy. How were you supposed to react to that? Why did he say it like that? It took a lot of effort not to cry, and despite looking at the ceiling and lots of blinking, you failed. Before you could spiral into your own thoughts, you wiped your face and left, finding everyone in Nancy’s room.
Everyone had piled around the edge of her bed. The kids had come back upstairs with something to use to help speak to them. You didn’t know what they were doing until the glowy particles materialized in front of you. It looked like a little rectangle, and you remembered Holly’s lite brite. If you weren’t literally in a different dimension, you’d hug the little shits.
“...Seeing this?” Dustin’s voice echoed weirdly from home. Nancy swiped her hand across the little patch of light, then there was squealing and laughter from the other end. Holy shit. It was working. The kids yelled something like a command to wait and then the light changed. It was dimmer, but still there.
“Try it now!” That shout from Dustin came through clear as day. Nancy fumbled for a moment on what to say. Then she used her finger to start writing in the light. A simple ‘HI’ sent the kids on the other side into a frenzy.
“That worked!” They yelled. The gang started whooping and high-fiving. You smiled at Steve as he turned to give you a high-five. Once the excitement settled, Nancy started writing again, this time spelling slowly a few letters at a time. She got through three letters of the word ‘stuck’ before the little square of light was full, and she waited for it to dissipate before adding the last letters.
“Stuck. They’re stuck in the Upside Down.” They worked it out, and Dustin asked a few questions. “You can’t go back through Watergate?”
“What the hell’s Watergate?” Steve asked out loud. Robin filled him in.
“‘Cause it’s in water, and it’s a gate.”
“Oh. That’s cute.”
Nancy started writing again. Her usual penmanship rocks, but letters written with a finger on a multidimensional lightboard were not her strong suit. Still, she managed to spell out ‘guarded’ for the kids to read.
“Okay, uh Watergate’s guarded.” Dustin’s voice made it sound like he was talking to you while you had cotton in your ears. “We think we have a theory that can help with that!”
Robin kept saying things that made you giggle, praising the kids and being goofy. “Genius child.” She moved her hands like she was praying.
“We think Watergate isn’t the only gate. We think that there’s a gate at every murder site.” You were pretty sure you knew what he meant, but the rest of the group needed help, so Nancy drew a question mark in the ash. Dustin was audibly upset on the other end.
“Okay. Seriously? How many times do I have to be right on the money before you guys just trust me?” He was basically shouting by the end of his sentence.
“Jesus Christ, this kid’s gotta get his ego in check.” Steve chimed in at the outburst.
“It’s his tone, right?” Eddie added. You were almost annoyed at them getting along. But Nancy had figured it out.
“Okay. So- So how far is your trailer?”
“Seven miles.” Eddie answered almost immediately. You chose to believe that it was because he dropped Mike off so often from Hellfire.
The group went quiet for a second for everyone to think of the best way to get seven miles, until Robin made a damn good point. “Nancy? I know your house here is, like, weirdly, creepily frozen in time and shit, but haven’t you always had bikes?”
Tumblr media
Everyone grabbed a bike and started riding. Luckily, there were enough for the five of you, thanks to You, Nancy, and Mike having gotten new bikes around the time this dimension spawned. Eddie led the way to his, staying around big empty areas so you didn’t need to worry too much about vines.
The ride was relatively quiet, save for when Steve almost fell off the small bike. The air in the Upside Down was cold, but humid. Your skin felt damp and clammy the whole time you’d been in this damned place, but you didn’t care enough. It had been a while since the last time you’d ridden a bike so far, so you were mainly focused on not needing to stop.
When everyone made it to Eddie’s trailer, the bikes were discarded at the door. Eddie opened the door and you took in the sight. In the years that passed since you were last at the Munson household, it hadn’t changed much.
“Right here.” Eddie stopped in the living room. Everyone looked up, where another gross fleshy membranous hole seemed to be growing into the ceiling. “This is where Chrissy died. Like, right where she died.”
You watched Eddie’s expression change from tired to haunted as he remembered exactly what happened the night Chrissy Cunningham came to him to buy drugs, and was greeted with a dark ending. You wanted to comfort him. You now understood a little of what he had gone through, but he had been alone. You stayed where you were.
The gate in the roof started moving, pulsating and squelching. The sound was enough to make you want to gag again.
“What the hell is that?” You all started moving away from underneath the gate, watching as chunks of the stuff fell to the floor. Suddenly something had torn through the gate completely, something like a stick.
When the gate had finally been cleared, the gang slowly walked forward to look up inside, finding Dustin smiling his goofy grin at you, upside down and laughing. The relief in the room was palpable.
“Hi there!” Dustin and the others waved at you.
“Hi,” Robin was the only one who answered.
“Holy shit this is trippy.”
Tumblr media
The kids left to find things for you guys to climb up and fall onto. You could hear struggling from the other side of the gate when they threw a dirty mattress onto the ground right above you. Or was it below you? You noted the discoloration on the fabric and made a pointed look at Eddie.
“Those stains are, uh… I don’t know what those stains are.” You laughed. You were in such a state of relief that you let yourself forget that you were upset with him. You worried about the stains for a moment before deciding you didn’t want to know what the real source was.
Dustin was holding a bunch of sheets they had tied into a decent sized rope.
“Not quite sure how these physics work. But, uh… here goes nothing.” He threw one end of the makeshift rope through their side and into yours, holding on to one end of it. “There we go. And if my theory is correct…” He let go of their end, and the rope seemed to just hold, in midair. The idea of it hurt your head, but you reminded yourself that you were dealing with interdimensional portals, so at this point, nothing made sense. “Holy shit. Alright, pull on it, see if it holds!”
Robin stepped forward and grabbed on with both hands, using all of her weight to yank on the sheets, and it stayed in place perfectly. Dustin laughed with glee on his side.
Erica commented on the situation. “This is the craziest shit I’ve ever seen in my life, and I’ve seen some crazy shit.”
Robin went through first. “Guess I’m the guinea pig.” She tugged the rope a few more times for good measure, and started climbing.
The kids got out of the way for her to jump through, and just as she passed the threshold of the gate, she fell through onto the mattress.
One by one, the rest of you went through. Eddie, then you. You refused to take his hand when offered to help you get up, instead using your own to pick yourself up off the mattress.
You waited for Steve and Nancy to come through, but just as Steve started to climb up, Nancy froze.
Her eyes rolled back into her head.

Chapter 2: Moving Foward
Monday came faster than either Billy or Steve were ready for.
On his way to the daycare centre, Billy looked at the empty seat next to him. He and Steve had decided going to school in separate cars would keep questions from arising. Switching to his rear-view mirror, he watched his girls playing with their toys. Max loved the baby seat that Steve bought her. On top of everything else, he would have to find a job to pay back all the money Steve and others had spent on him.
When he reached the daycare, he pushed both front seats up and lifted both carriers out of one side.
“Wow, you are strong and so young to have twins. You and their mother must be so proud,” said a woman with her baby carrier in her arms.
“They keep me busy and it’s a good workout. They’re my pride and joys,” he said and smiled as he headed inside after her.
When he reached the check-in desk, the woman there looked at him, confused. “They doubled over the weekend,” she said with a chuckle.
“Yeah, Max wasn’t well enough to come earlier, but now she’s healthier and ready to join her sister. I would like to pay for the next month,” Billy said as he handed her the credit card Steve had loaned him. Another payment he would have to pay back.
Kissing both girls on the forehead, he headed out and turned his attention to school.
***
Steve was half there during his morning pickup. Dustin decided to ride shotgun. Steve heard something about their latest Dungeons and Dragons campaign and Lucas having a crush on someone, and he would answer with a “yeah” or a “that’s cool” every once in a while.
When they got to the middle school, Steve let the kids know he would pick them up. Their parents needed him to watch them for the afternoon. Once they were all out, he started up the SUV and headed towards the high school, wondering if Billy had made it yet.
He was glad that the blue Camaro was already there when he got there.
Billy was sitting on the hood, staring off into the distance, looking at something only he could see.
Tapping Billy on the shoulder, Steve motioned toward the school since the bell went off. Billy just nodded and without a word headed towards the building, leaving Steve feeling iced out. Shrugging it off, Steve headed inside.
When the last bell rang hours later, Billy again ignored Steve’s existence, as he had all day. Before Steve could say a word, the only thing left was the skid marks where Billy’s car used to be.
He was glad when Robin finally made it out and he had someone to talk to. “Hey Robs, hope your day went better than mine,” he said as he started up the SUV to pick up the kids.
“We can talk about school later. You promised to let me know what happened over the weekend,” Robin said, leaning back in her seat.
“As soon as we get back to my place, everything will be clearer,” he said and hoped Billy would be there.
***
Gravel flew under the wheels of the muscle car.
Billy stopped at the quarry and stared into the gulch below. He hit the steering wheel with both hands as his scream echoed through the empty Camaro.
He hadn’t been able to focus all day, but the worst part was he couldn’t even look in Steve’s direction. Max was finally healthy and now he was falling into an abyss.
Words uttered to him in his youth played through his head. ‘Useless, pathetic, weak’ were the ones that echoed the loudest at the moment.
Taking a deep breath, he started the car back up and went to pick up the only things that made sense in his life.
When he got to the daycare, he got the girls and headed towards the rec centre. He wouldn’t inconvenience Steve anymore.
But as he approached the centre, he flipped it off and continued to Steve’s house. He had to think about what was best for the two in the backseat and not himself or Steve.
As he pulled up and saw everyone getting out of Steve’s SUV, he started having doubts again. The giggling in the back kept him focused.
Before he could get out, Steve was on the passenger side and taking Mary out.
“There’s my cutie,” Steve said, causing Billy to bump his head on the top of the car as he got Max out.
The way Steve said ‘my cutie’ caught Billy off guard and made him happy and scared about all he could lose at the same time. He noticed Robin watching intently, and he started to panic, but Steve's hand on his arm made him calm down. Why was Steve able to do that for him?
“Come on, it’s safe now,” Steve said, and motioned for him to follow.
When they got inside, Steve placed Mary’s carrier on the floor and unbuckled it so she could crawl around. Steve was happy when Billy followed suit with Max. He could tell that Billy was anxious, but he had to prove somehow he was safe.
“Alright everyone, why don’t you sit down on the floor and Billy will explain everything,” he said. When the others were all sitting, he went over to Billy and whispered, “Just tell them what you're comfortable talking about.”
Billy nodded and went and sat next to Mary and Max, who were staring at the others in the room.
Sitting off to the side, Steve watched the facial expressions of the others. Robin, Will, Dustin, and Jane seemed to take it piece by piece while Lucas seemed sad and Mike did not believe a word being said.
Then there was Billy. He looked like he was going to be sick, but his body language was calm, as though telling the story again was releasing all the tension he had inside.
When Billy was done, there was silence.
“What in the holy hell?” exclaimed Lucas, staring at Max, who had crawled onto Billy's lap and was playing with his long hair.
Mary crawled over to Lucas and reached her hands up to be held. Lucas picked her up and sat her on his lap, letting her play with his cellphone charm.
“You're good with kids, Lucas,” Billy said, trying to smooth out the situation.
“Yeah, I've got an annoying little sister and my parents make me babysit enough,” Lucas said as he smiled at Mary, seeming to forget or just trying to ignore that the girl he liked was now six months old.
Steve was about to suggest they put on a movie when Mike went off.
“So what you're telling us is that within the last few days, you took down scientific crazies out of a B-horror movie, and not only is none of this with Max scientifically possible but they also figured out how to make a dude have a kid. This is some kind of dumb joke,” Mike said as he slumped down onto the couch.
Taking a deep breath, Steve went and reached for Max, who reached back to be picked up. Billy whispered, “Thank you,” and rubbed the spot where Max had been pulling his hair.
Steve laughed and took Max over to Mike and sat her on his lap. “Does this look like a dumb joke? Just look at her eyes,” Steve said softly as he sat down next to Mike.
Mike picked up the baby and looked into her eyes. Her blue eyes shone brightly. They were Max’s eyes. Sitting her down on his lap, he sighed and said, “Fine, I fold. But none of this makes an ounce of sense.”
Billy laughed and said, “Believe me kid, I am just as lost as you. I'm still not used to what happened to me.”
With that, the twins went off.
“It’s dinnertime,” Billy said as he stood up, collected his girls, and headed upstairs.
Robin looked at Steve and asked, “Is he going to nurse them?”
Steve nodded.
“Can we watch?” Robin asked in a curious tone.
Steve shook his head. “That’s a pretty private thing. You would have to ask Billy about that,” he said as he looked up the staircase. “Anyway, it’s time to get all of you home. I will let Billy know while you all get your stuff together,” he said and headed upstairs.
When Steve got to the nursery, he stopped in his tracks. The girls were asleep in their crib, but Billy was nowhere to be seen. The window was wide open. Fearing the worst, he went to the window and could breathe normally.
Billy was sitting on a tree branch that was close to the window outside of the nursery.
“Hey Billy, are you ok?” he asked casually, masking the worry and fear plaguing his own mind.
Billy nodded.
That's when Steve noticed the tears staining Billy’s cheek. “I need to take the kids and Robin home. Will you be alright?” Steve asked, hoping Billy would come back in.
Again, Billy just nodded.
***
It was like life was put on repeat for the next couple of weeks. Billy would be gone with the girls before Steve woke up, Steve would see him at school and then when they were both home, it felt like he was still alone.
“He’s not the same guy that fought for Max. He has become quiet and seems to have been switched to autopilot. Maybe you can help him?” Steve asked Joyce when he dropped off Will at the Byers’, not holding back his tears.
Joyce wrapped her arms around him and pulled him close. “I think he might be depressed and possibly suffering from postpartum. I was the same way after each of the boys was born. I can come and talk to him if you want,” Joyce said softly as she rubbed his back.
“Thank you so much, Joyce. Can you come now?” he asked.
Joyce nodded, and Steve led her to the SUV.
Billy looked at the calendar on the desk in the guest room
Two weeks.
The last two weeks brought back memories of the Groundhog Day horror he had been living in before Steve. Day in and day out, he was slowly becoming that shell of a person who just did what he had to do instead of the person who was doing what he wanted to do.
Steve.
Every time he heard that name, everything inside him shifted. His head hurt, his stomach did backflips and his heart felt like it was forcing itself to continue to beat. So, he stayed away from Steve to keep away the pain he was feeling, but that made him feel alone again. That hurt just as much.
Billy was sitting on the windowsill of the nursery when the sound of Steve’s SUV heading up the driveway made him look up. He watched as it pulled next to the Camaro. Then there was Steve, and the world seemed to balance, and then there was Joyce. Why was she here? He waited until he heard the door open and close, and then slowly headed downstairs.
When he got down, he saw Joyce sitting on the couch and Steve heading into the kitchen and organising random things on the counter.
“Hi Joyce,” he said softly as he took a seat across from her, but kept his gaze locked on Steve.
“Can we talk for a minute, Billy?” Joyce asked.
Nodding slowly, Billy turned his gaze from the kitchen at Joyce. He still wondered why Steve was staying in there instead of coming to sit with them. Was Steve mad at him? Was Steve kicking him out? He fucked up. He knew it. The voices in his head had told him the whole time he would fuck up, and he had. Joyce must be there to be a mediator because Steve feared him. Did Steve fear him? He put his head in his hands, his body trembling like he was freezing when, in reality, his body felt like it was on fire.
Steve watched as Billy silently battled whatever demons were inside him. He wanted to run over and let Billy know he was safe and nothing could hurt him. But Joyce had made it clear on the drive over that Billy had to admit to his pain or he would never heal. So, Steve sat down at the kitchen table and watched as Billy hid his head in his hands, mumbling to himself, crying. His heart felt like it wanted to burst out of his chest and slap him. He should do what he felt was right, but he knew nothing about depression, so he had to trust the person who did, no matter how much it hurt.
The minute he heard Joyce ask him to sit with Billy and explain what was going on he jumped up and ran over.
Joyce just observed for almost an hour as Steve explained to Billy that he had asked Joyce to come and talk to him because he was worried that Billy was depressed. Billy's eyes darted between Joyce and Steve like a nervous rabbit’s and he pulled away when Steve tried to put his hand on his. Steve also acted weird calling Billy anything beyond his ‘friend’ and then looked sad at hearing his own words.
After the hour, she signalled that she had enough from their interactions to back up her own ideas about the situation, and clapped her hands. “Ok gentlemen, I am not a licensed therapist but I have made two motherly observations,” she said. “One: Billy, you are depressed and possibly suffering from postpartum. Two: you guys have to put your inner feelings into words because it's preventing both of you from living life fully.”
***
A couple of weeks later, Billy looked at the calendar and groaned when he realised what day it was. March 29, his seventeenth birthday. Thankfully, no one knew that, so he was safe.
He got the girls ready and let Steve know they were heading out - just like he’d learned in therapy.
Joyce had a friend that was a licensed therapist, so she had set Steve and Billy up with both individual and couple counselling.
The last two weeks had been hard, and he was still learning, but each day he felt more positive that things were heading in the right direction, and the negative voices had gone mostly silent. His relationship with Steve was a lot better as well. He couldn't believe how much effort Steve was also putting into making things work. They had opened up a line of communication that had helped them both express their feelings and set up some basic rules.
After dropping the girls off, he headed to school.
As predicted, no one at school knew about his birthday, so he didn't have to deal with people trying to celebrate something he really didn't care about.
When basketball practice was over, he picked up the girls and headed back to Steve’s.
He was surprised to see Steve’s SUV in the driveway, since he normally got back first.
Collecting the girls, he headed inside and almost dropped the carriers when Steve and Robin jumped out, yelling, “Surprise!”
“How did you find out?” he asked Steve. He was still not too excited about the idea of a party, but it actually felt good that someone cared.
Steve flushed pink and said sheepishly, “I might've looked at your school records. I might have a friend that got me that information.”
They spent the night laughing and talking. Steve promised they would have a real party when Billy weans the girls.
Steve got him a gift card at his favourite sports store and Robin made his birthday cake, which was really good.
When the clock struck nine, they decided they should get some sleep for school the next day. Robin ended up staying the night. That night Billy went to bed for the first time feeling the next year might just be better.
***
A week later, the day of the big game finally was upon them.
After an amazing season comprising only one loss, The Tigers showed their claws by starting fast. The team they were facing was just as good and by the last five minutes, the game was tied. The Tigers had the ball.
“Come on, you can do it!” Lucas yelled from the bleachers. He had developed an interest in basketball and came to all their games along with Robin, who came to support Steve.
Billy's eyes were locked onto Steve, who took the ball across the court, easily slipping past the other team’s guards until he reached one of their biggest players. Without missing a beat, he ducked and passed the ball to Billy, who was waiting at the hoop and scored the final points of the game.
“The Hawkins Tigers are the new Interstate champions,” the announcer said as the team began their celebration.
After the game and after dropping Lucas and Robin off, Steve and Billy picked up the girls from Joyce's house and headed home.
The hustle when they got home made them feel as though they were on the court again. The girls were full of energy and the bathroom was full of water after bath time, so while Billy got a mop and cleaned the bathroom floor, Steve put the girls down for bed.
Once the mop was put away and the girls were finally falling asleep, Steve and Billy went downstairs to the living room.
“Good game tonight, Steve,” Billy said, placing a hand on Steve's shoulder, his eyes never leaving his.
“Same to you,” Steve replied, holding Billy's gaze with his own.
As if being pulled by something, their bodies slowly got closer. Billy softly slid his hand down Steve's arm. He then moved his hand around Steve's waist and when Steve nodded at his wordless question, their lips met and they shared their first kiss.

Y/N's POV:
Me and my sister are currently in Mike's basement with our friends - Nancy, Robin, Dustin, Max, Erica, Will, Lucas, Argyle, Steve and Mike, El's boyfriend. It isn't so bad here, it's actually quite nice. It's my first time here, I was staying with Joyce Byers before me and my sister were on a run since papa showed up. And finally, we're together again. Joyce adopted me and Eleven a week after Eleven and I met again.
She's number 11 and I'm number ten. We recently found out about our mother a week ago, before everything went downhill. First, we found out that a gate to the Upside down was opened. Last but not the least, papa showed up which is a bad sign. Turns out my name is actually Y/N and Eleven is Jane.
"You could've died in there! You could've been taken by that thing!" Steve argued back to me. I don't know why he didn't want me to go.
"Well, I didn't, Steve. Why didn't you want me to go? Did you want my sister to do it alone?! Did you want her to die?!" I raised my voice angrily. If he wants my sister to die, I'll die with her - or he could die first before my sister.
"No! I don't! I don't want you to go because I love you and I can't lose you!"
Everyone gasped at Steve's response. Oh. my. God. He likes me!? Steve 'the hair' Harrington likes me?! The playboy, Heartthrob Steve likes me?! That's why?! Even I was taken back at his sudden confession. He froze at his spot when he realized what he had just said.
"Holy Shit. You like y/n! I knew it!" Lucas broke the silence between all of us, he began chanting, "Steve likes y/n" with Dustin, Max and El.
He groans out of embarrassment "It's not like that, okay?"
"El and I win Dustin" Max said to the kid while doing the 'give me' hand gesture. Did they just do bet on us? Dustin groaned loudly and gave Max and El their prize.
"You did a betted on us?" I asked, I received a nod from the four kids "Oh my God. Why?"
"We always sense some sexual tension when you two lock eyes every time. It's like you are talking with each other with your minds. So we thought that you two like each other, so, we made a bet. El and Max went for you two having a crush on each other and and I went for you two only having either one of you likes the other" Dustin explained to us
"Telepathy" El added
"For how much?" Steve asked
"A hundred bucks" Max blurted out
"A hundred bucks?!" Steve and I exclaimed in synch, we share a surprised look before looking back at the four kids.
"Yeah, two teams. Each person on that team gets 50 bucks" Dustin explained to us
"Wait! Are we just going to ignore the fact that y/n didn't say anything after Steve's confession?" Mike interrupted us. Right. I didn't.
"Do you like Steve back?" Nancy asked me straight away
I turn to Steve "Can I talk to you, " I glance at the kids then looked back at him "Alone?"
"Y.. yeah, s... sure" He stuttered with scratching the back of his neck, the two of us went out of the house to talk alone. Without any kids. But I'm pretty sure that at least one of them followed us out, those snoops . "What did you, uh, want to talk about?"
"About what you said. Is it true? Because I don't want to be the only one who believes that it's not true" I answered
No one's POV:
Whilst y/n and Steve are talking outside, the kids in the basement were betting once again.
"I'll go with y/n doesn't feel the same way" Lucas betted first
"Same" Max, El, Nancy, Dustin and Robin all teamed with Lucas.
"I'll go with y/n feeling the same way" Mike declared, confident with his answer
"I'm with Mike" Will, Jonathan, Eddie and Argyle teamed with Mike
"Wait, you're all seriously betting over y/n/n and Steve?" Erica interrupted the betting
"As you heard, yes we are. Whose team are you on?" Nancy asked the kid
"I'll choose but it depends on how much the winner wins" Erica sassed
Honestly, Robin was hurt when she found out that Steve likes y/n because she has taken a liking to the y/h/c woman ever since they met. No one actually knows who y/n really likes, that's why they betted in the first place. Robin and y/n are very close friends, both women work together at Scoops Ahoy with Steve. The mall has been in Hawkins for a year now, and ever since it was built, many stores in the downtown have lost its customers, including the local video rental store.
Where you and Robin first met, you were looking for a job there and you saw that the local video rental store, known now as Family Video, was hiring so you applied, there you met Robin and the rest in history.
"20 bucks," Lucas answered "Each person on the winner team gets 20 bucks"
"25" Erica opposed the deal
"20" Lucas argued
"25 or I'm not picking"
"Fine. 25 bucks for each person on the winner team" Lucas gave up
"Then I'll go with y/n feels the same way" Erica chose a team.
At that exact moment, when the other team was about to argue Steve and y/n came walking down the stairs. As y/n steps on the floor, she took Robin's hand and dragged the woman beside her. Steve had a miserable expression on his face.
"Steve. Robin. Would you two like to share what you two are feeling about me so I could decide, please?" Y/N requested. Only Nancy knows about Robin's feelings for y/n, and only Jonathan knows about Steve's feelings for y/n which is now revealed to the kids.
Everyone looked quizzically at y/n, confused about what she's talking about.
"Then I'm not picking" she sighed, walking limply to the couch and plopped on it while everyone still had their eyes on her. "What? You're wondering why I know, am I right?"
Robin and Steve nodded, as well as the others. That made y/n sigh again and stood up, with her hands holding each other behind her as she walks towards the people she says, "Well, Robin, itall started when.."
What happend, this is in y/n's POV:
After I had studied with Billy in the back of Scoops Ahoy, I overheard Robin and Nancy talking, little did they know that I heard them
"I can't tell her yet, it's hard, Nance" Robin groaned
"You have to, or else one day you'll wake up and see that she's walking down the aisle, getting married to the love of her life whilst you stand there, completely regretting that you didn't tell her sooner" Nancy told her best friend
"But what if she doesn't like me back?"
"At least you told her before it's too late"
End of story, No one's POV:
"Oh" Robin whispered, embarrassed that y/n, her crush, had to find out like that.
"And as for Steve," you sighed "you all know how I found out" you sat back down on the couch
"So who's your pick? I can treat you better" Steve stated
Robin frowned and said, "I know I can treat you better that he can"
"any girl like you deserves a gentleman" Steve fought
"Tell me why are we wasting time on all your wasted crying hen you should be with me instead? I know I can treat you better better than he can" Robin argued
"I'll stop time for you. The second you say you'd like me too" Steve argued back
Everyone was amused by this little show, probably the highlight of the sleepover.
"This is a sleepover, not some open forum" Dustin whispered to Max
"Let them fight for y/n. It's amusing" Max whispered to Dustin. Robin started walking towards you, gripping onto your arms gently as she looks into your eyes.
"I just wanna give you the loving that you're missing. Baby, just to wake up with you. Would be everything I need, and this could be so different. Tell me what you want to do" Robin finished softly, y/n searched for any lies through Robin's eyes but she found nothing but love, desperation and... lust? "Who's your pick?"
"I choose..."

Halloween was Three Months Ago | Nancy Wheeler x Robin Buckley
Tumblr media
Nancy Wheeler opened her front door, sleep worn and irritable. Her hair was wild, the curls having dried against her pillows in a wild ringlet of distress. She had fallen into a fitful sleep halfway through making flashcards and was rudely awakened by soft pattering on her windowpane that she figured was rain.
It was, in fact, not rain. Robin Buckley had scooped up a handful of pebbles from Mrs. Wheeler’s back garden and began pelting them one by one at the glass in small, muffled noises. The moon was full, and Nancy could see her clearly inebriated. She pushed open the window and breathed in the cold night air.
“What are you doing?” She whispered harshly.
“I can’t go home, my mom’s going to kill me!”
Even drunk Robin had enough sense to know that she shouldn’t stumble into her home, filled to the brink with knick-knacks that were easily breakable. Her mother had fallen asleep on the sofa on more than one occasion, waiting for her to get home. It was better to beg for forgiveness than ask permission, and that was only achievable when she could see straight.
Nancy frowned before waving Robin to the front door and ushering her directly into the basement hangout that Mike and his friends usually inhabited. Their latest campaign was set up on a folded table, and string lights gave the place a soft glow. Robin could sleep off her intoxication here.
She deposited Robin on one end of the sofa. The girl let out a small noise between a whoops and sorry. Robin tiptoed back up the steps to the basement and allowed herself to close the door, close them into a cool darkness aside from the string lights, reflecting gold against Robin’s freckled cheeks.
“No, no!” Nancy had reached the bottom of the steps just as Robin reached for an old bucket of Halloween candy that was a replica of a stormtrooper. Mike hadn’t used it in years, the same stale tootsie rolls marinated with bat-themed peanuts and discarded lollipop sticks. “Don’t throw up in that!”
Robin let out a gross sound and heaved into the bucket twice. Nancy cringed. The whole place smelled of bile and beer and she was suddenly regretting closing them in here. But Robin’s eyes were glassy, and her cheeks were flushed. Nancy wanted to take care of her in that moment. In every moment, maybe. She hadn’t stopped to think about it before.
Carefully, she maneuvered the bucket from Robin’s lap and tossed it out the back door, onto the grey moonlit grass. It seemed like a problem for later, smelled like one too. She got Robin a ginger ale from the basement fridge, avoiding the old popsicles and miller lights her father stored.
“Drink this,” She ordered, sitting next to her on the couch and cracking the metal seal. Robin groaned and fell into Nancy. Her breath was hot with alcohol, her nose close against the crook of Nancy’s neck. “Or not.”
“You’re so nice,” Robin mumbled into her throat, the words tickling. “I didn’t think I’d ever end up on the Nancy Wheeler’s couch. Mike’s cool, beautiful older sister that has a bunch of guns. Where did you get guns?”
Nancy laughed “You’re drunk.”
Robin nodded and swallowed the mostly sour taste on her tongue before accepting the glass of water that Nancy offered. It dripped down her chin and soaked into her collar until it was damp. Nancy watched as the girl’s jaw clenched and unclenched at the hydration. It must taste like metal, she decided.
A word stuck out to her. Beautiful. She remembers the first time Steve told her that she was. It was written in chicken scratch on a torn piece of notebook paper that she embarrassingly shoved into a box somewhere. She felt prideful that the Steve Harrington had complimented her looks, the swim captain, the all-American boy.
Johnathan had called her beautiful too. It slipped out between heated kisses after a years-worth of tension. She barely heard it over the pulsing of her own heart. But stilled when she did. It felt nice. Just as it had when she read the words from Steve. Nice.
This felt different, and not just because Robin had just upchucked into her brother's favorite Halloween pail. Even with her drunkenness, there was sincerity behind it. Not just saying it because it felt like the right thing to say, or because Nancy was hastily trying to undo a belt buckle.
Nancy situated Robin on the sofa with another glass of water and a decorative pillow. She could drool on the patterned side and it would blend right in. When she stood, Robin’s fingers found her own, squeezing. “Nance?”
“Yeah, Robin?”
“Thank you for taking care of me.”
“Of course.”
Instead of going upstairs, she found herself settling into her father’s old recliner, pulling a throw blanket over herself. God forbid Robin falls to the floor in her sleep, hit’s her head on the edge of the coffee table, and bleeds out. That’s the reason she told herself she stayed as she drifted back into sleep.
Nancy jolted awake to the sound of a whirring blender upstairs. Her mother had been on a health kick lately. Every morning on the dot she would blend a stalk of celery, a cup of water, and chia seeds that she had ordered in the mail. She choked it down unhappily before whipping up breakfast.
The girls’ eyes flicked to the sofa. Was last night a dream? No, of course, it wasn’t. She wouldn’t’ be down here if it was all in her head. Robin was laying face down, her nose pressed against the cushion. The glass of water on the table had been drained.
“Oh my god,” She groaned, voice muffled “Who is sawing?”
“My mother,”
At the sound of Nancy’s sleep-riddled voice, Robin shot up way too fast for her own good. Her stomach clenched and she fought off the urge to vomit. She must have been drinking way past her legal limit last night, and now she was on Nancy Wheeler's couch, in Nancy Wheeler's basement. With Nancy Wheeler.
“Hi,” Robin said.
“Hi.”
Nancy felt her cheeks warm up despite herself. Robin’s hair was messy, her voice thick with hangover. Her shirt was wrinkled, the imprint of the pattern on her pillow made little red intents against her skin that Nancy wanted to sooth. She pushed the front of the recliner down instead, giving herself solid ground to stand on.
Robin groaned as she sat up and Nancy was worried that she would lose whatever water that she had gotten down. She looked positively green but swallowed hard and kept everything down. There were rings on every finger and a necklace that hung low against Robin’s chest. Not as if Nancy was looking.
“How much of a fool did I make out of myself?”
Nancy shrugged “Honestly, I’ve seen worse. You did vomit in a replica stormtrooper helmet.”
“Great.”
The blender stopped upstairs, and the scent of food began to waft under the crack of the door. Nancy could hear the morning news streaming through the television they kept in the kitchen. She had forced herself to focus on the words of the newscaster, no matter how garbled. School closures due to weather. A car crash off the interstate. Nothing that sounded monster related.
“My mom always makes enough for a whole village.” Nancy found herself saying, cupping the back of her neck nervously. “You could stay for breakfast if you’d like. Or you can sneak out the side door. Though, I can’t stop whoever catches you.”
Robin weighed her options; Nancy could see it behind her soft blue eyes. They reflected the multi-colored string lights that plunged them into a dull glow. They were pretty, Nancy decided. Robin had a tendency to mumble, and apparently get drunk, but Nancy liked this small moment between them. Didn’t want it to end.
“Breakfast sounds good.”
Nancy found herself smiling “Good. Can’t believe I got the resident band kid to agree to stay at the beautiful mysterious Nancy Wheeler’s house for breakfast.”
“Oh my god,” Robin grabs the throw pillow and pushed it against her features, letting out a muffled scream into the fabric. “Vecna take me now.”

eddie x platonic! experiment! reader
random things in my 007!reader universe part 2:
part 1 :
aka, eddie x van 😼
eddie :
- 7 months after van (sev) left the munson trailer, eddie had been going to get a new tattoo and decided to get the number 7 on his left shoulder blade .
- when people asked him about it, he just told them that it was his lucky number
- one day, (pre-meeting again) when he was dealing to some of steve’s friends at a party, children of the grave started playing.
“it’s like i can’t escape!” steve groaned, loudly
“what’s wrong harrington, don’t enjoy good music?” eddie joked.
“haha, no.” he laughed sarcastically.
“it’s just my sister plays this song every damn day, and it’s honestly starting to get old.” steve glared.
“just sounds to me like your sister has good taste. later.” eddie pocketed the money and walked away.
- very protective once you two meet and become friends again
-you refuse to go to his trailer , with the fear that his uncle hates you, as much as he tells you he doesn’t
- the first time he came to your house, and saw your room (because you were insistent) he was appalled
- because omg is that a Jackson Pro Series Rhoads RR3 ! 😮
- and the kirk hammet poster threw him off too, but not as much as the kelly lebrock one 🫣
- “is that a signed queen poster?!”
“yes”
“how-“
“my dad met them once”
“ohhh”
- you constantly watching his band, which is where the crush on gareth started and eddie was not pleased
“who’s the one who plays the drums 🤭?”
“gareth. why?”
“…☺️…”
“absolutely not, you’re never coming here again, and i’m telling steve
“snitch 😐”
robin :
- you met robin when steve got the job at scoops ahoy.
- instantly hit it off honestly
- hence why you invited her to go to the weird science early premiere with you.
- consider her a big sister figure
- you both make fun of steve together
- just good times honestly
-when she found out about your powers she freaked out
“why did that russian guard’s suit just spontaneously catch on fire ???
“i’m a pyrokinetic 🧍🏾‍♀️”
“oh! okay that makes sense!”
- once her and steve started working at family video, she rented out firestarter for the 3 of you to watch
- cue robin constantly asking you questions as the movie plays while steve snores his life away on the other couch because he fell asleep 20 minutes into the movie
“can you do that??”
“yes, robin. i can.”
“wow. cool.”
and 10 minutes later
“so what’s she gonna do next???”
“i don’t know robin, i haven’t seen this movie”
“oh yeah….. well what would you do next???”
“robin?”
“yeah?”
“stop”
“okay”
lucas :
- you and lucas were honestly pretty close
- like with eleven, he didn’t quite trust you at first, but he got over it and you two became good friends
- well then again you and everyone in the group were close except for mike (my sev-mike beef agenda is prospering)
- you tried out for the girls basketball team, to keep him company, being that the boys and girls one were being held at the same time.
- you didn’t actually want to join the team, you just didn’t eanr lucas to feel bad for being the only one into sports. + you did badly on purpose, being that you were already on 3 other teams
- on the night of the championship game you were there to cheer him on, (also to be steve’s scapegoat for if he didn’t want to be on that date anymore)
- try to give him advice on how to get max back everytime she dumps him (you usually just give him some money to buy her stuff, because words aren’t gonna help at this point 😭)
erica -
- you became friends with erica through lucas actually
- she thought you and max were cooler than her brother and his other friends.
- before she knew you had powers though, she definitely thought something was up with you.
- once she did find out though, she definitely used it to her advantage.
“i need you to set (insert random girl at her school’s name) on fire.”
“why???”
“because i don’t like her?”
- you then proceeded to just give her the very same advice that hopper gave you in the events of season 2 🫤
mike :
- ahh mike
- he’s a pain in your ass
- and you in his
- he didn’t like that you were still there while eleven was “dead”
- hence leading to you two arguing all the time
- you’re friends and you care about each other but you two would rather die than admit that
- you set his stuff on fire sometimes just for the hell of it
- like the time you set his hellfire shirt on fire because he made you mad and you overheard eddie say that if he messed up another one he’d be banned for a week.
- aren’t you just the greatest 😽
“wheeler your a shit boyfriend to my sister, and an even shittier friend to will”
“how would you know, you’ve never even had a boyfriend!”
“so we’re just gonna skip past the last part i said?” 🧍🏾‍♀️
a/n : honestly sev and mike being friends but not liking each other is so funny to me. like i can imagine steve being the type of “parent” to say “okay now hug and make up!”
and if you refuse he’ll threaten to pull out the really huge “get along ™” shirt, and just stuff you both in it. (he’s done it before)

Trigger warnings: wishing a parents death, a lot of cursing, blood, hospitals, someone almost dying
Word count: 1.9K
Pairing : Hopper!Reader x Eddie Munson
One in which Eddie doesn’t die, just gets majorly injured.
“Why can’t you just accept him?!” I yell at  my dad as tears fall from “He hasn’t done anything bad, he only has different taste in music and clothing. He is a lovely guy and if you gave him an opportunity you would also see it!” I continue to yell.
“ I can’t accept that drug dealing punk dating my daughter, I’m sorry but I don’t want him in my house anymore. That’s all I will say about it” he says in a stern tone.
“UGH! I fucking hate you, I hope you die!” I scream, shutting the door of my room.
It has now been eight months since his death, El, my adoptive sister we could say, has moved to California with the Byers while I stayed here in Hawkins.
After all the upside down shit that has been going on for the last years and Billy’s death the whole gang thought that all of this was over. But recently some weird deaths have been happening and the Hawkins police have framed my boyfriend Eddie as this satanic cult leader that has been sacrificing teenagers for some kind of ritual. We also discovered who is behind all of this, Henry Creel, a boy with telekinetic powers, just like El but with psychotic behavior and with some desire to kill traumatized kids.
So now while Lucas, Erica and Max are at this psyco’s house, while Nancy, Robin, Steve, Dustin, Eddie and I are back in the Upside down. While the girls and Steve are going to try to kill that motherfucker, Dustin Eddie and I are trying to make a distraction for the demobats.
Eddie is playing “Master of Puppets" by Metallica while the youngest boy and I are waiting for them to come. Everything goes on so fast and  Eddie looks so hot as he plays his heart out for this occasion. The demobats are coming, Dustin counting down the seconds for them to hit us.
“Ten  seconds Eddie!” I scream. Their fluddering sounds more intense as they come closer. The three of us enter the trailer, Eddie almost not making it. “Holy mother of Jesus Christ. These motherfuckers are trying to get in, Eddie, are there any places they could?” I question my boyfriend. Before he can say anything one of them breaks in through the ventilation hole. Panic fills our bodies as more of those monsters hit the windows and every surface possible, Dustin and Eddie are trying kill the demobat with the spares the created while I go to his room where a huge air vent is located, but i'm too late as a swamp of these weird bats come through. I scream as loud as I can, the bats are flying in circles in the small room, the door opens and Eddie gets inside without thinking twice, Dustin waits in front of the door to close it when we come out.
“Okay we need to go! NOW! Dustin you go first” he starts to climb the bed sheets made ladder that connects the upside down with our real world. I go after him and when I’m on the other side, waiting for Eddie, he just doesn’t go up. “ Eddie, come on!” we both scream, fearing that some crazy idea has come into his mind. He looks up at us with those big brown eyes of his and one of those kinds of stares full of sadness, he quickly looks away cutting the bed sheets, eliminating the only way he could get out.
“ I love you guys” he says before disappearing.
“Nonononononono” i start mumbling. “Fuck this shit, I’m going back there. Dustin'' I grab his face with two of my hands. “ I need you to rebuild another ladder okay” he is paralized “Okay?!?!” he comes back to his senses after some seconds. He nods and starts to look for some blankets, bed sheets etc. While I try to make a small stand with chairs where I can jump to the ceiling, grab something to pull myself up down that shithole.
It takes me a couple of minutes to grasp one side of the ceiling that is not slippery. When I finally manage to get to the other side, I fall badly hurting one of my legs but with all the adrenaline running inside me I can’t barely feel anything.
The sound of the demobats is further than before not sounding as loud. When the door opens I can hear his screams, pain filled screams. I run as fast as my injured leg allows, when I see him lying on the ground with lots of those demon bats attacking him.
“Eddie!” I start running, when I arrive where he is at, I throw myself on top of him acting as a shield between those god-awful bats and him. Their sharp teeth drilling my skin, each time they bite me their teeth deeping the wounds. I really start to feel this is the ending for both of us, how romantic right? The two lovers, the one who sacrifices themselves while the other protects them until death. My mind is already thinking about all the things that could  happen when out of the sudden the bats fall to the ground seemingly dead.
“Eddie, are you okay?” He looks at me with a bloody smile. “ I’m going to get you out of here okay?” I cry, trying to wipe my tears out. I try move him, but he is to heavy for me to move. “Shit shit shit” I panic.
“Hey, (Y/N)” he says grabbing my hand, his blood now on my face“I need- i need you to do me a fav-favour” he mumbles, I nod my eyes full of tears. “ I need you to take care of all of them, okay? Specially Dustin'' he begs as tears fall down his face “ I will- I will always love you (Y/N)”
“Don’t fucking come with the “I’m dying” mologe because you are making it out of this shit hole okay?” I say between cries. “Steveee! Robbiiinn! Nancyyy!” I scream from the top of my lungs.
“(Y/N)?!?!” a female voice asks not far from where we are. “
“Eddie, don't close your eyes, okay baby? Stay with me. Explain to me what are your plans for the next quest. Jesus fucking Christ where are they” I look aroud nervously as Eddie tries to explain me his next D&D game, his voice is quiet, I can barely beraly hear him. Between the trees three figures appear. “ROBIN PLEASE HELP ME!” I beg. The three teenagers come running.
“(Y/N) your back-“ starts Nancy but I cut her off
“Im fine, okay, we need to take him to the hospital. I don't care if Vecna is dead. If he doesn’t make it I will physically die, I’m not even joking” They all help me take him back to the van, his gaze is lost in the blue/red sky of the Upside down, I’m losing him I can feel it.
Taking him back to our world is difficult but we eventually make it, the first to go after him are Steve , to start the car, and Robin to help Dustin take him to the car. When I make it to the other side I run towards the car as fast as my injured leg allows me. Steve and Eddie are already inside the car, I go to the backseats where my boy is laying down, I put his head on my lap and my hand locks with his.
“You are going to be okay. You are going to make it” I try to wipe his tears. “ Steve I don’t care how many laws you break, if we are not there in less than fifteen minutes he is going to die” he drives as fast as his car allows. “ Eddie, can you hear me?” he nods. The drive is short but it feels like it took us centuries to get there. Steve helps me take Eddie out of the car. When we enter, none of the doctors or nurses want to take him in, and at that moment is when something on my brain just snaps.
“IF IN TEN SECONDS I DON’T HAVE A NURSE AND A FUCKING DOCTOR TAKING CARE OF HIM AND SAVING HIS LIFE, I WILL PERSONALLY GRAB A SCALPEL AND START KILLING YOU ALL OF, I’M NOT FUCKING JOCKING” I yell with the craiziest look on my face. Then they all start moving towards us, they lay him on a litter and take him to a surgery room. They said they need to inspect him before doing anything.
“(Y/N)...” whispers Steve, I turn around “ I think you should get help too, those wounds on your back don’t look good plus you have been limping on your left leg since we were on the Upside down.” he looks around for some nurses, they all seem to comprehend the situation and take me in.
Now all my torso is bandaged and my left foot has a cast, I look disgusting. My face and arms are still covered with dried mud and blood, most of the areas covered with bruises. I'm sitting next to Eddie’s bed, my head resting on the mattress. He is sleeping now, they gave him some sleeping medicine so he can rest, he has lost a lot of blood but the doctors said he is going to be alright. Dustin is sleeping on the big chair.
Before I fall asleep, someone knocks on the  door, hoping to see some nurse with some test results. I turn my  head rapidly. To my surprise I see my Dad, who I thought had died eight months ago , and El with her head shaved again.
“D-dad!” I try to run towards him, tears falling down my rusty face, but my injured leg doesn’t allow me to make more than three steps.
“Oh my beautiful girl” he says as he hugs me tightly. “I’ve missed you so much” he loosens his grip when he notices the bandages on my back. “ What happened?!” he questions.
“I’ll tell you tomorrow, okay?” he nods. I hug El, she has grown so much in this past months.
“(Y/N)” a small voice behind me calls me. Eddie is awake, he is smiling like he always is.
“Hi there sunshine, how are you feeling?” my dad helping me to get closer to him. He doesn’t say anything, still too weak. “I thought I had lost you. Don’t you ever do that again Eddie Munson, because if this shit repeats again you are dead. And this time will be real” He laughs, god I hate seeing him like this.
The doctors come in to check on him while we all wait outside his room.  When they leave my dad makes a signal, telling us he wants to go in by himself. He doesn’t fully close the door , I rest my ear so I can hear what they are talking about.
“Thank you, son” he says
“For what, sir?” I can’t hear his voice clearly.
“For taking care of her, for protecting her everyday, since the first day you started dating. You are a good boy Munson” I smile to myself. “ You are welcome to the Hopper family”

KATE HAD ALREADY dragged herself through her morning shift at the café before getting to eat anything.
On Saturdays and Sundays, Kate made sure to work from open to close, just to make sure she could make the brunch tips. She hated that she worked so much, mostly because she didn't have any time to do anything other than work or school anymore. During the week, her classes seemed to simply be a distraction from all of the time she spent working. She'd only done the math one time, partially because it hurt her brain to think she worked two jobs a week close to forty hours a week each, and that didn't include the time she was studying or in class. She didn't even think to leave room to try and attempt a social life—she didn't have time for things like that. Not anymore.
Everything was much more expensive now that she was on her own, especially now that she was living in the city. Even though she'd gotten all of her father's financials, including her college fund, she knew she needed to save most of it for whenever she was out of school and El was living with her again. With the way Kate worked, she was comfortable. She had enough money to do things like buy plane tickets to California to see her sister, to see Joyce and the boys. She had enough money to buy Christmas presents for everyone, to buy a birthday present for one of the kids every time one came around.
Kate didn't like to be looked at like she was struggling. Even though she was struggling, it wasn't in the way that everyone thought she was. She didn't want any handouts, and that extended to something as simple as using her dad's money that had been left to her. She put Joyce's names on all the accounts, just to make sure she could use it for El whenever it was necessary. Kate didn't like that even if she'd been granted guardianship, Joyce had still been the one to pay for everything. It wasn't fair, she didn't think to Joyce. Besides, even all these years later, Kate still hadn't forgiven herself for what had happened to Bob. Even if Joyce didn't seem to mind, that she'd put it past her, Kate felt like she owed her, and that was what she saved that money for. Besides, it was better to save what was rest of it for later—whenever she really had to grow up.
She only had an hour between her shift at the café and her shift at the bookstore on weekends, and that hour always seemed to tick by as quickly as possible. Weekends felt like that—they weren't for her anymore, but only for working her ass off. It wasn't like she would've enjoyed herself normally.
Kate hadn't enjoyed herself since the night that her father died. Not in the way that she used to. Nothing felt right anymore, and the thought of feeling any remote sense of joy, life, or love made her feel so guilty, even all those months later. That's why Kate worked so much, she supposed. It was the only thing that could possibly fill the void she now had in her heart, even bigger than the one that had been there before.
She couldn't explain why her father's death had affected her so. About three years before, if her father would've died, Kate thought she would've been fine, almost better off without him. Now though, after everything they'd gone through together, Kate loved her father—she had loved him. The loss of Jim Hopper had hit her even worse than the loss of her sister, the loss of her mother, and she didn't think she would ever feel anything the same way ever again.
What made it worse was that he didn't even feeldead. It wasn't like how she'd felt whenever Sara finally died. It wasn't that feeling of unmistakable dread, the one where you knew that the person you loved was gone and there was nothing you could do about it. What made her feel so much worse about it all was that she swore she could still feel him. She thought she could almost sense his presence somewhere out there, almost like he was alive. Part of her thought it was because she had never gotten a true confirmation that her father was dead. She almost laughed at that idea: it wasn't like one needed a body to prove that Jim Hopper had died in that explosion in the Russian base. She still wouldn't ever shake the feeling that maybe somehow he was alive out there.
Even though there was that sneaking thought that Jim Hopper was still alive, Kate had to push it past her and hope that she hadn't sucked the life out of the only people she loved left.
Robin had already started rambling about Vickie as she and Steve restocked the shelves of Family Video.
"Then Vickie laughed. And it wasn't like a cheap, fake laugh either. It was like... It was a real, genuine laugh."
"Of course she laughed. It's my Muppet joke. It's hilarious."
"My point is that Vickie laughed and everything was just like... It was perfect."
"But?"
"But I'm having this problem where it's like, I should stop talking. I have said everything I need to say. But then I guess I get nervous, and the words, they just... they keep spilling out, and it's like my... my brain is moving faster than my mouth, o–or rather my... my mouth is moving faster than my brain, and it's like I'm digging this hole for myself, and I want to stop digging, I'm trying to stop, but I can't, and I'm doing it right now, aren't I?"
When Robin turned back around, Steve had one hand on his hip, the other rested on one of the shelves. "Yeah, you are."
Robin slammed herself against one of the posters against the wall. "I'm hopeless."
Steve moved to stand next to her, leaning against the poster. "Eh, we both are."
He wasn't exactly wrong about that. Robin, while having an enormous crush on Vickie, didn't have the confidence to pursue it. Steve, on the other hand, felt like he'd gone on fifty first dates since he'd put himself back in the dating pool again, but every single date ended the same: she wasn't Kate.
She turned to him again, an idea striking her. "If only we could just, like, combine."
He gave her a confused expression, eyebrows furrowed together. "Combine?"
"No, think about it," Robin started. "I know exactly what I want, and I've found the girl of my dreams, but I just can't get the courage to ask her out. Meanwhile, you go on a million dates, and you have no idea what you want."
He nodded, still not quite understanding. "Mhm."
"So if we just combined, all our problems would be solved." Steve had started to understand what she meant, but she kept going. "Because, I mean, alone, let's face it..."
"Oh, we totally suck," he said reluctantly.
"Totally and utterly."
Steve hated to think about it that way. It wasn't like he went on a million dates for no reason—there was an end goal in mind. The problem was that Steve had already found the girl of his dreams, but she didn't want him anymore. Kate Hopper had no plans of ever coming back to Hawkins, and he couldn't help but think he was part of that decision. Besides, if she still cared about him, wouldn't she have responded to one of his letters that he'd sent her by now, maybe answered the phone every once in a while? He'd told himself a long time ago that he needed to stop wasting money on trying to talk to her again, that there was no point to keep trying because she obviously didn't care, but he hadn't stopped caring, and he wanted, needed her to know that. He wouldn't stop caring about her, no matter if she hated him or not.
Robin pulled him out of his Kate-related trance whenever she gasped. "Ooh, I think I found our morning movie." She ran over to the other side of the room, picking up a case off the shelf. "Doctor Zhivago."
Steve scoffed, waving his arms in disapproval as he stepped closer to her. "Ugh, you know I don't do double VHS."
"But it's about doomed love!"
"Oh, well, that's relatable."
"Precisely," Robin said, not thinking before the thought left her brain. Whenever Steve gave her a somewhat hurt look, she gave a sheepish grin. "Sorry. But, Julie Christie is b-b-b-bonkers hot in this. Like, seriously, the most beautiful creature I have ever seen in my life."
Robin picked up the television remote to click on the television, which had apparently last been left on the news channel. She hadn't thought much of it until she started paying attention to what the reporter was saying, Steve moved next to her. "We're in the Forest Hills trailer park in east Roane County. We don't have a lot of details right now, but we can confirm that the body of a Hawkins High student was discovered early this morning. Police have not yet released the name..."
Steve's eyebrows furrowed together. "Holy shit."
"... although we are told they're currently in the process of notifying the family."
Neither of them knew what to think about the fact that someone had just been murdered in Hawkins and that they were no older than a high school student. They didn't think too much about it while they continued to watch the news segment, trying to learn as much about it as possible.
It hadn't been too long before Dustin and Max barged through the front door of Family Video.
"You guys see this?" Steve asked them whenever they walked up to the checkout desk.
"How many phones do you have?"
"Someone was murdered."
"How many phones do you have?" Dustin asked, seemingly annoyed with Steve and paranoid about something at the same time.
"Two. Why?"
"Technically three, if you count Keith's in the back," Robin said, pointing her thumb in the direction of the storage closet.
Max turned to Dustin as they exchanged glances. "Yeah, three works."
Without a word, Dustin started to take off his backpack.
"What are you doing?" Steve asked, more as a statement than an actual question. Before he could say anything else, though, Dustin slid his backpack over the counter. "What are you—woah! What are you—!"
"My pile!"
Steve yelled whenever Dustin slid his body over the counter. "No, no, no, no, no! My tapes! Dude!" He threw his hands up, becoming more distressed whenever Dustin sat behind the computer at the front desk. "What are you doing, man!"
"Setting up base of operations, here," Dustin said worriedly, already typing something into the machine.
"Base of operations?" Robin asked, annoyed.
As Steve continued to scold Dustin, Max stood behind him at the computer. "Stop, get off that."
"I need it."
"Need it for what?"
"I need to look up Eddie's friends' phone numbers."
"Oh, Eddie? Your new best friend Eddie you think is cooler than me because he plays your nerdy game?"
"Yes!" Dustin said before Steve could finish his sentence. Whenever Steve slapped his hand against his own leg, Dustin corrected himself. "I never said that."
"Seriously, you guys, maybe on a Monday you can play around in here like toddlers, but it's Saturday," Robin said, restacking the tapes Dustin knocked over. "It's our busiest day."
"Robin, I empathize—"
Steve buried his face in his hands. "Oh my God—"
"—but this cannot wait until Monday."
"What, because calling all of Eddie's friends is an emergency?"
"Correct!" Dustin shouted.
"You want me to strangle him or you want to?" Steve asked Robin.
"We could take turns," she replied cheerfully.
"Can you just... fill them in while I do this?" Dustin asked Max.
Robin turned to Dustin, even more annoyed. "Fill us in on what?"
Max only stared at them, trying to figure out how to explain that Chrissy Cunningham had not only been murdered in the trailer across from hers, but Eddie "the Freak" Munson had been there to witness it and might not have been the one who committed the crime, even if it overwhelmingly seemed like he had been the one to brutally murder that girl.
While Dustin, Max, and Robin tried to find Eddie Munson's whereabouts, Steve tended to the customers. More specifically, the pretty ones.
"All right," he said, moving back to the pretty girl he'd been helping, "Doctor Zhivago. It's a double VHS. It's long. But that's because it's filled with action and romance, and a little bit of suspense."
"So, my boyfriend won't, like, totally puke when I bring it home?"
"Oh, you... your boyfriend?" He felt and looked defeated. "Uh, no. No. He's gonna... He's gonna love it. Yeah."
After he rented out the VHS under her name, he walked her out of the store. "See ya!"
"Yeah, see ya... later." Steve stood in the door, barely holding it open. "Alligator." He wanted to slap himself as he mumbled under his breath. "Goddammit."
Steve couldn't understand how he hadn't gotten all his game back yet. Sure, he'd been in two year-long relationships since his high school man whore days, but surely he hadn't been this bad off whenever he was in those relationships. He couldn't imagine that he'd been that lame when he was dating Kate, at least.
He sighed whenever he thought about Kate again. He hated that he thought about her so much—he hadn't seen her in person since he'd left New York City, and he didn't think he would ever get the pleasure of seeing her again unless he drove all that way to the city or took a flight out to California to see the Byers when she was off school. He missed her. He missed absolutely everything about her. That was who he really wanted. The only problem was that she definitely didn't want him. Not after all this time.
Max slamming the phone back down on the base pulled him out of his thoughts, making him focus on restocking more VHS tapes. "Hey, guys, I might have a lead."
Dustin and Robin turned to face her, immediately growing interested in whatever she had to say. "Seriously?"
"Yeah, apparently. Eddie gets drugs from some guy named Reefer Rick, and sometimes Eddie crashed there."
"That sounds promising," Robin replied. "Where does this Reefer Rick guy live?"
"See, that's the thing. No one knows. He's more of a... a legend than someone that people actually know."
"Okay, what about a last name?"
"I don't know about that either."
"Bet the cops know the last name," Steve finally said, still working on resorting the tapes.
"What?"
"Cops," he said simply, not turning to face them. He could feel their stares on his back. He finally caved, moving to the front desk. "I mean, listen, if this Reefer Rick is actually a drug dealer, I guarantee you he's been busted at some point. Means he's in the system."
"The cops?" Dustin asked, unimpressed. "Really, Steve? That's your suggestion?"
"Well, I mean—"
"It's not like we have the Hoppers at the station anymore to use to our advantage. It's all people who wouldn't understand."
Steve hated that Dustin had brought both Kate and her father into this. Sure, maybe he shouldn't have jumped to going to the cops in a case like this, but that was something he was used to doing his whole life. He couldn't begin to remember all the hypothetical-but-definitely-not-hypothetical questions he'd asked Kate and, by that extension, Hopper over the years. It was something he had grown used to doing, and Dustin hadn't taken a moment to put that into consideration.
"I mean, I just think at this point they should probably be filled in on what we know, what's going on."
"You think Eddie's guilty, don't you?"
"Woah, woah, woah, I believe in innocent until proven guilty, all that constitutional shit. I just, you know—" he stopped, rubbing his hands together— "just don't think we can rule it out."
"That's precisely what we're trying to do here, Steve," Max said bitterly.
"And maybe we'd have a little bit more luck if you spent less time trying to find a girlfriend and more time trying to find Eddie."
"Oh, well, somebody has to attend to the customers."
"Especially if they're babes, right?" Robin asked, winking at him.
"Hey! Not fair. Okay?" Steve replied, pointing at her. "I attend to all customers equally, babe and non-babes alike. We've got a very big selection in here, okay? It can be super overwhelming for these people."
That was when Robin's face lit up. "Yeah, it can be." Without another word, Robin turned to the computer, already typing something.
"What are you doing?" Max asked, moving to stand next to her.
"Maybe we don't need a last name," Robin started as the other three started to stand around the computer. "Twelve Ricks already have accounts here."
"That's a lot of Ricks," Max replied somewhat sarcastically.
"So, let's narrow it down." Robin clicked on the first name on the list. "Rick Alderman's latest rentals are Annie and Dumbo. What are the chances our drug dealer has a family?"
"Not likely."
"All right." Another name. "Rick Conroy. Sixteen Candles, Teen Wolf, Romancing the Stone."
"No," the other three said simultaneously.
"Okay." Robin moved to the next name. "Rick Joiner. Mask, Footloose, and Grease."
"Nah."
"Rick Kimbrough. The Blue Lagoon and Splash."
All of them laughed before Max said, "Definitely not."
"No way."
"Okay." Robin clicked on yet another name. "Rick Lipton. Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Cheech & Chong's New Movie. Cheech & Chong's Nice Dreams. Cheech & Chong's Up in Smoke."
Dustin laughed. "Bingo."
"Lipton?" Max asked.
"Spelled like the tea. 2121 Holland Road."
"That's out by Lover's Lake," Dustin added.
"Middle of nowhere," Max reasoned.
"It's a perfect place to hide," Robin said, now even more sure that they'd found the right Rick.
It was a long shot, but certainly one that the group was willing to take as they bolted to Steve's car, flipping the sign on Family Video to "CLOSED" for the night—they were out on a mission, and nothing was going to stop them.

can you make some headcannons for nonbinary gay billy with like him coming out to his sister, steve (his boyfriend) and the others
general hc's
Billy is nonbinary in the way that he uses he/him and is steves girlfriend, in the way that she uses she/her and is steves boyfriend, in the way they use they/them and is steves partner. (they use he/she/they with no preference)
he feels less gender fluid in the way their genders fade and increase. it's more like they all exist at once inside her, she just has a preference that changes day to day.
billy spells his name "billy" when he feels masculine "billie" when she feels feminine and "bill" when they feel more in the 'middle'.
Steve was terrible at trying to decipher how billy was feeling, if he should treat her more feminine that day or masculine at first. but eventually, he picks up on patterns; 1 earring is normally a masculine day, 2 studs is a 'middle' day, dangly earrings are feminine days.
billie is a dress type of girl, despite popular opinion, she likes feeling dainty and pretty. light yellows and blues are her best colors, but she isn't against pink or green.
On more feminine but not girl days, he likes dress pants, like those classic sorta flowy straight-leg pants. he pairs it with a sweater or nice button-ups and a vest. it's feminine but balanced.
masculine days he keeps to his canon style.
as she gets older and more comfortable in his identity and dresses less to prove a point and more just as they want to; the styles merge, finding a sweet spot between his metal head style and his want for dainty femininity. he takes up skirts, skinny jeans, darker colors, and so many accessories (she likes leather and metal, so think belts, garters, harness, belt chains, other body chains etc.)
she joins in on girls night, goes shopping with heather and chrissy, and gossips with joyce over cafe at the nicer cafes in hawkins.
steve takes her on date nights and makes sure to take her dancing. he hods the door for her, pushes in her chair, and pays the bill.
can and will kill heels, you'd think they've been wearing heels since he came out the womb. she has ankles of steal and can full on sprint in heels.
steve spoils her and gets her the nicest bralettes and underwear, cause he likes to wear them even on masculine days. his baby gets lace god dammit.
he and max rant about gender at 3 am, cause its a struggle ok, some days its not fun and your confused. they rant about having shifting opinions on their body, not knowing if they feel comfortable in it or if she wants to get surgery ad start hormones. max complains about not being able to really understand how she feels, and how it makes her uncomfortable.
billi does settle on getting implants, small ones, as she is nervous about how she'll feel after. steve makes sure to support him no matter what, and never pressures a choice out of them. she ends up loving them though and definitely flaunts them for steve all the damn time
coming out hc's
he came out to robin first, its super awkward cause they arent super close, but he's heard robin talk about how stupid the gender binary is so he knows shes safe. she helps him gauge the possible reactions are and gain the confidence to come out.
Second is steve (they've already been dating for a bit btw), he nearly starts crying as he chokes out a mess of words that roughly translates to 'sometimes I feel like a boy, sometimes I feel like a girl, sometimes I feel like neither. sometimes I'm more of a boy than a girl, but I'm not really a boy. sometimes I feel that way but like a girl. sometimes I feel like but in the middle... makes sense?"
As robin said, steve is super supportive, confused, but supportive. he has a lot of questions, but with billy also coming into his identity, he doesn't always have a response. they learn and grow together, steve helps him test and find his wants, needs, and boundaries in every direction. he makes sure billy feels loved no matter how he presents, that steve find him just as hot masculine or feminine. steve is actually more worried about not being supportive enough for billi than then he's identity (in the way that he isn't bothered by it, billie is still the person he fell in love with, things are just a little different.)
He's not as nervous but still needs some support coming out to max. he explains it to her the same way he did steve, and at first, she looks so conflicted he nearly breaks down, thinking she doesn't accept him. It was actually the opposite. She throws herself at him and just says she gets it. It takes some self-exploration with the help of billy, but she finds she's also genderfluid. They're super close after he comes out, on a completely level than before.
He comes out to the rest of the younger group (the teens and kids) after max, max literally threatening anyone to test her or billy and that they will end up in a hole if they say the wrong thing. The kids are a little hopeless but very supportive. They do their best to use the right names and pronouns. Billie thinks it's cute, how they go out of their way to compliment her with very gendered compliments. He appreciates the effort. The older teens are very casually accepting; things don't really change. They just use their pronouns and make sure he knows they don't view him differently.
(this is a long one, sorry) He's most nervous about coming out to Hop, he's in the guy's custody, and he still has the feeling that one wrong move and he's out. he tries to tiptoe around Hop, hides the new clothes steve got him, won't paint his nails or wear makeup around Hopper, always thinks of a million excuses before doing something in case Hop catches him. Despite this, Hopper isn't an idiot and picks up that something is wrong. He asks him one day at dinner when they're alone, and billi flips. She starts apologizing and trying to get to his room, saying he should just leave. he manages to get outside and to his car before Hop can calm him down. He speeds to steve's house, loses his mind once steve lets him in the door, and is inconsolable for hours. It takes days for steve to be able to convince him to tell Hop. He understands why his partner is scared but doubts Hopper would kick him out or disown him over this ("baby, he has a daughter who can move stuff with her mind, will's neck tingles if somethings wrong with the upside down, he's fine with all of us being gay. I promise, everything will be ok"). billi trusts him eventually and they meet up with hop. Hop is so supportive, less cause he actually knows whats going on (he loves his kids, but he does not get anything they have going on quite honestly ever, he's a tired old man ok, he's trying.), but because he loves his kid and the thought he was so scared to come out she ran away for almost a week hurt him. he hugs him so tight, not letting go until they're both done ugly crying.
"you're always going to be my kid, no matter what you little shit"
hopper's surprisingly good at the pronoun thing. He asks how billi's doing every day, makes sure everyone (whose safe) uses the correct name and pronouns, and covers for billy if anyone says anything about him in public.
joyce is a mom. She basically knew the second billy 'accidently' wore her perfume. He didn't really need to come out, she just adjusted to it, and he had steve and robin loosen up with pronouns around her, so she knew. they've talked about it, but it was less of a coming out and more just getting on the same page.
ps. hopefully this posts cause if it doesn't I will sob. sorry this came so late, I had my last bout of technical difficulties a few days ago so I think we're in the clear *knock on wood*
