(this is completely shipping goggles off btw and with the assumption that there's no point theorizing about these men's actual sexualities since a)male sports and b)required travel to countries where the penalty for homosexuality is death/imprisonment.)

I kind of love that we're all picking up on something new and indefinable with Lando and Oscar and it makes our hearts do a little squeeze without fully knowing why. I'm basically finding myself repeating everyone else's tags on landoscar gifsets. and it made me think about why and how Lando has had two main support systems in terms of friendships up til now. there's the F1 alphas/extroverts and then there are his childhood besties.

F1

so like every guy or group of guys I've seen with Carlos somehow admit he's in the alpha position and rotate around him as the leader. it's very much like Daniel even though Carlos and Daniel aren't much alike outside of that (Daniel makes noise to be the leader, Carlos just exists as a leader). for an ambivert like Lando, Carlos and Daniel are great places to be when he's getting pulled under. they're typical straight alpha types who don't believe in getting stuck in their heads or feelings (Carlos' 'mental health' ad basically being go to the gym and stay productive to not feel sad lol) and they exist in a kind of nonstop monologue. so little Lando can just bob along in the current and know that he'll laugh and forget whatever ails him. very much like what he needed Carlos for after the Mexico race when he looked so drained and ended up magically chipper again in Brazil (in reality bc of friendship and not a solid dicking down as I have tagged in a lot of places). or that private plane ride with Daniel where Lando looked twelve years old and so happy. Lando clearly needs to feel small again sometimes and these are the guys who can do that.

Childhood

Max F obviously has that role of truth-telling and soul-baring that honestly I could see Lando not being able to live without. the friend/soulmate you can't hide anything from. I'm absolutely projecting at this point as someone who feels verrrry simpatico with Lando's personality (as we're allowed to see it) but having that person who can love you while being honest and real with you is so SO SO needed. but! there are times when it's too much and they know that you need to just float for a while. I feel like there's that core group of guys in the Max F circle who are all to different degrees like this with Lando. they're much more his equals in power dynamic too.

Oscah??

I think this is where Oscar exists in like a third, unexplored space. he's been caught in 4K as a Lando fanboy but he's also got sleepy cat personality so you can only tell from the internet evidence and from the way his eyes track Lando every time they're in the same rough vicinity that he's still fairly starstruck.

to me it's like Oscar hasn't quite shaken the norm of watching Lando on his phone screen and he almost forgets that he's supposed to be the one interacting with Lando in the challenges etc.

now if you've watched the Prema content on YT you'll know that Oscar, while still sleepy and placid, absolutely knew how to play up for social media content. sure the pressure wasn't that high and he'd known some of those boys for years by then. but his timing was solid and he adopted a sarcastic voice-of-reason role to bounce off the other guys. but what's so endearing about the McLaren content is that Oscar has basically positioned himself as guest star in the Lando Show. it's like he's so relieved at how good Lando is at media content that he spends a lot of his role in it watching what Lando is doing. I'm serious when I say it seems like he forgets he's not watching Lando on a screen like he always used to.

I do however think it's a confident and conscious decision that he made to not even bother trying to be another Carlos or Daniel - or to try and copy paste a little of the banter he'll have seen Lando have in Quadrant videos. I really love that Oscar's said you know what I'm being me and it so happens I'm nothing like those other people in Lando's content.

but !! you know who's personality and sense of humor Oscar most resembles? Max F. dry humor, sleepy but can get riled up and fun when they're feeling it. sort of fondly exasperated with Lando a lot of the time. I loved the stream of Max watching the Most Likely To with Lando and Oscar because he sided with Oscar so many times and appreciated Oscar bringing up the birthday issue.

and I think that's where for Lando he's still pretty damn thrown by Oscar - not in a bad way, just still uncertain. Oscar doesn't fit with Lando's extroverted F1 world. Oscar's plenty friendly with the rest of the grid (and obv Logan) but he's choosing to largely go under the radar and he runs his social media very lowkey even during some of the major highs he's had his rookie season. he's there to race F1 cars and when that's over he's got a very good brain in his head and plenty of options. he doesn't have the same insecurities that a lot of the drivers admit to having. Lando can't rely on Oscar being a typical F1 driver to understand him.

to finally come around to some kind of point I think what we're seeing is Lando and Oscar tiptoeing around a friendship that would probably develop very fast and easily if it weren't for the F1 pressure and expectations. we're seeing Lando unusually flustered by how easy he gets Oscar's attention and how he seemingly can't annoy or inadvertently piss off Oscar even if he tries to wind him up in videos or if he gets lost in admiration for his own trophy while Oscar shrugs off his own P14 finish and smiles at Lando. I genuinely think that level of undemanding affection has Lando sort of squirmy in an adorable way.

and Oscar clearly went into the personal side of his relationship to Lando of just enjoying whatever he gets and not trying to be someone he isn't. rookie seasons are already so pressure packed and the drama with Alpine followed by the rough start McLaren had won't have helped. he's just trying to do his job and prove his place and honestly isn't bothering to hide that he's baffled and flustered at finding himself interacting with Lando Norris the way Carlos Sainz and Daniel Ricciardo were. it's easier to just let people see that Lando can wrap him around his finger.

when all the time, if they'd met via Max F or mutual non-F1 friends, Oscar would fold right into Lando's group like butter on toast. I think that's what we pick up on with either or both of them getting shy and crushing on each other like new best friends at school. F1 has picked them up and put a camera on them and we're watching them slowly learn if it's okay to put an arm around each other or sit very close or touch the other person's hair. because they know this is very Real FriendTM friend potential and they don't want to spook each other and their feelings could so easily be hurt if they thought the other person didn't want to be friends as much or if they'd turn their back on them in front of their other friends.

they're not interacting as Typical Blokes by horseplay or teasing or being loud and they're not Just Guys Bein Dudes using humor and sarcasm to figure out the pecking order.

most of the time they're so shy or Lando's in a mood and Oscar finds it adorable and they're watching each other so closely the whole time like this and aauuuuhhggggg it's so vulnerable and sweet.

that's how it feels to me anyway and why I'm so ???!!! watching them interact. and sidenote I'm so so glad Oscar is so steady and can celebrate Lando no matter what. bc Lando admits he struggles with that in turn and after the many times it's been tested it's clearly never going to be something that breaks them before they can continue to get closer <3

Tuffy Foley was born along the coastal area of the Long Island section of NY, in a slightly run down neighbourhood. But someone did – Hefty Ortiz, a slightly older and braver kid than Tuffy, who’d had enough of the peers his age picking on the ‘poor guy’ and told them to back off. Hefty was not a kid to be messed with either, he was strong enough to easily hold his ground and the bullies knew he didn’t bluff. For Tuffy, he had found a new idol that day, and was forever in his debt.

Tuffy meet’s Hefty’s mom’s. X and Y Ortiz, a lesbian couple who had been raising their son into a compassionate and strong minded young man. X worked as the local sports coach, whilst Y was a social worker, so it was easy to see where Hefty’s strength and empathy came from. This was also Tuffy’s first positive representation of homosexuality – Tuffy had likely endured bigoted slurs from the bullies, despite being too young to know what the future had in store for him, and being around the Ortiz family has likely saved him from years of further denial.

Teenage Hefty discovered girls, Teenage Tuffy discovered Hefty. I mean, kid Tuffy looked up to Hefty but teenage Tuffy worshipped the very ground he walked on. It was an almost unhealthy obsession, and unfortunely this did start to strain his relationship with Hefty who found him to be broaching into slightly unhealthy co-dependency and imitation behaviour.

Hefty travels to Belgium. Tuffy, still lost in a fantasy parasocial relationship with him, follows. Ultimately, despite their adventures, his affections are never returned and it becomes obvious to Tuffy they never will.

A heartbroken but bitter Tuffy turns to … more unwarranted approaches and with his new found self-appointed freedom at no longer pursuing Hefty exclusively, Tuffy moves on … to his best friend, Handy Turner. When that doesn’t work, Tuffy decided to try a new outlook and attempts to attract the attention of a much older man, Wooly Sherman. That also does not work. Tuffy sulks and decides to give up for now. 

A few years later, Marco Spaziale is back in the village. His first trip away since the ‘incident’ in fact and what he’d really like now is a quiet night in the pub and a pint to relax. What he GETS is a sulking Tuffy who’s pissed about another failed rizz attempt. Marco is … bemused but annoyed. They exchange some banter and Marco tells some bone-chilling sea stories. Well, that gets Tuffy’s attention. Actually now that he thinks about it this Marco fella is sort of handsome in a very ruggish and badass way – Just Tuffy’s type. Those scars are pretty cool. Tuffy’s into it. He’s found a new object of his affections.

Marco suspects there may be a distant link between Tuffy and the weird skeleton dude walking around. Tuffy has concerns of his own.

It took some time but Marco warms back to Tuffy. He kind of originally viewed him as a sad little puppy, but like sad little puppies they have a way of warming your heart. Unlike his friend Dreamy who Marco tends to perceive as something akin to a little brother relationship with him, Marco’s never really had anything to do with Tuffy before and romantic feelings are eventually reciprocated. Marco is a bit older and more experienced about life in general whereas Tuffy has followed Hefty his whole life and is younger and a bit sheltered. Marco shows him some of the world. Tuffy discovers he has seasickness.

Easton gets tired of his family's wealth when one of his middle school friends claims he's ignorant and no fun to be around, and he gets so sad that he feels sick for days. What his father's money cannot fix, though, is how lonely all the attention makes him feel, and how the success in football gets to him in college, where his eating habits slip for a while and he struggles to keep up with the sport, and school, and... figuring out he was gay, right before a big game night, which led to the worst game he ever played in his life. It couldn't be. He'd done business. He'd done football. He'd taken every crump of compliments, every word of appreciation, every cold nod and every punch to be good. To be perfect. No, to be good enough, and then he just isn't.

After his first and final football game of college, the scout of the New York Giants asks him to sign a contract, and there's no hesitation. No denying. It's what he's earned himself - his father hasn't asked him to, nobody has, he's old enough, he can do whatever he wants. And he does. And sticks around.

As good as Tom Brady. Possibly soon to be in the Hall of Fame, the newspapers read, and while he's offered many more contracts, he sticks around with the Giants, pushes them to Superbowl and gets them many wins. But he's never fully himself - he's not outed, fake dates women (during college and a few years after), and when 2020 comes around and he thinks of quitting - he does it. After a game, at a press conference, he speaks up about his sexuality and publicly outs himself as homosexual. The shitstorm is massive, but so is the support. Easton doesn't talk to his father about it. His mother knew. Of course she did. He loves Persephone with all his heart, and will likely never stop.

Thought A Rarity On Paper // Billy Collins

Here I am thanking you for this fine copy of Jack Spicer’s posthumous “One Night Stand and Other Poems” (Grey Fox Press, 1980), introductions by Donald Allen and Robert Duncan.

It’s such a rare little bird, I was careful to purify my hands before sliding it out of its clear Mylar sleeve.

I was careful, too, when I turned the pages, but when Jesus began making out his will and Alice in Wonderland went missing from the chessboard, the book had to be restrained from taking flight and flapping its many wings against a window pane.

So now, the front cover is bent back a little like a clam with its shell slightly ajar the way Spicer’s mouth could look sometimes when we would see him at Gino and Carlo or in the park by the Church of Sts. Peter and Paul, where he would often sit cross-legged under a shade tree.

There on hot summer afternoons he would suffer the company of young poets if they observed the courtesy of arriving with cold quart bottles of Rainier Ale, as green as the sports section of the paper.

It was a practice that my friend Tom and I and his friend A. B. Cole followed religiously. Spicer even called us “The Jesuits” for he knew where we had gone to school.

To be imperfectly truthful, I was intimidated by his reality— a lonely homosexual adult who dressed funnily in summery shirts and baggy pants, belt buckle to the side, his sad moon-face pocked as the moon itself, and with a name like a medieval vender’s.

He would talk about poetics, of which we knew nothing, and about the other Berkeley poets, but we poetry juniors felt more at home when he talked about Willie McCovey and we would be on to another still cold quart.

Then a forceful wind came off the Bay and blew Jack Spicer away, found a year later at 40 on the floor of an elevator going neither up nor down.

Later still, Tom would be blown over a golden bridge, his soft inner arm full of holes, and I sadly lost track of the sardonic Andy Cole.

And here I still remain, more than twice Spicer’s final age, rolling through the pages of his little book,

listening to his bewildering birds, and watching Beauty walk, not like a lake but among the coffee cups and soup tureens,

causing me to open my hands and allow this green aeronaut of paper to lift off and fly around my yellow house and beat its wings against glass as the thrilling sky continues to change slowly from blue to black then, miraculously, back to blue once more.

GOD yes. tennis is soooooo expensive, it takes approx 1 billion dollars to pay for lessons, court time, coaching, travel, accommodation, gear, etc etc. :// You get paid if you win. let me say that again: you get paid if you WIN. there aren't salaries! early in your career, you are HEMORRHAGING money, esp if you have a coach. the travel is fricken expensive all by itself!! and if you're paying a coach as well you're either in debt or you're playing with house money if you catch my drift. (tennis players often come from wealth, much like f1 drivers — they can also be sponsored, sometimes by their country, but usually only if & while they're successful!!)

I really dream of meeting the love of my life in a way that i will remember it and will not be ashamed to say it. Like, i don't want it to be by a gay dating app, because i don't want to be thankful to my phone, you understand?

I would prefer to meet him in a public space, like a museum or a library, somewhere that would represent us. Somewhere where i or him wouldn't be ashamed to talk to the other. For example imagine if I fall in love with a sport player, i imagine myself telling him how good he was, and then he ask me if i want to continue this discussion somewhere else... 😊

It is exactly what happens in this story

So i would like to meet my lover in a public place, or somewhere where him and i could go again or at least remember, and somewhere where we wouldn't be shy to talk to each other. But i don't mind if it's friends in common who introduce to each other.

But to answer your other point, i don't believe in being ennemies to lovers. It can be interesting in tv series, like the bully who is secretly in love with the loser / fag / nerd. It reminds me of the storyline in Glee where David Karosky is secretly in love with Kurt Hummel that he violently bully everyday (i am currently writing about them, by the way). But in the tv series, they aren't dating.

There is other examples of lovers who were ennemies or who at least disliked each others, but i think you need to be interested by the person to fall in love with him.her.

As for falling in love with a friend.... Well, I'll talk about my experience. I discovered my homosexuality by falling in love with my oldest male friend when i was 11 years old. I haven't heard about gay or homosexuality before. Anyway, i didn't wanted to tell all the details, because it's a very sad story, but what's surei is that when i told him my feelings i didn't saw him as my friend. I wanted him to be my boyfriend. Oh i wanted it so much, i never loved someone as much as i loved him and it hurted - and sometimes still hurts - me so much. But the fact is that after I told him i was in love with him, he didn't saw me as his friends too. My love for him meant the end of our friendship.

So i think you can fall in love with someone you already likes as a friend, but, if a friend is really important to you, it's sad to end a relationship just because you want him.her as your boyfriend.girlfriend. I am not saying that i regret falling in love with my friend, but what's sure is that after that i had crushes on guys who weren't my friends.

These stories are love stories and you'll see that the characters fall in love sometimes unexpectidally. I havent included all the love stories I wrote (the Disney ones and the CELEBRITIES IN LOVE too).

There is stories with friendship or in which guys fall in love with their friends. They are not classified by chronological order or preferences.

In terms of her place - her rightful place - in sporting history and the public consciousness, that slipped away. So much so that when in 1976 the Black Athletes Hall of Fame sought to honour her, they didn't even know she had died.

In 1969, two years before Washington's death at the age of 72 or 73, she was interviewed by Len Lear for a story with the Philadelphia Tribune. They met back where it all began for her: at the Germantown YWCA. Lear, now a veteran reporter for that newspaper, had never heard of her.

"Once I met her and asked a lot of questions, I was absolutely floored," he says.

"It's just hard to imagine this today when you see people like Serena Williams, for example, making countless millions and having their name on perfume and all kinds of other products. And she had nothing. Nothing. She was getting old and she was not in great health, but to learn that she was possibly the best female athlete in the country in the first half of the 20th century [and] she was doing housekeeping... She did not express anger or rage specifically. She was more or less, I would say, sad. Over what could have been and should have been. She wanted to be recognised for her skills by everyone, and she wasn't."

Washington's great nephew Gregory Price has another view. He doesn't remember her as sad.

"My sister and I are essentially the last living members of our families who knew her personally, who had actual personal contact with her. We're the last of that," he says. "You know, she seemed looming large, larger than life. She was tall and slim, she had a baritone voice and beautiful eyes. And when she looked at you, you saw sincerity in her eyes when she spoke.

"This is nothing short of a hidden figure story. Someone who played two sports at the highest level, was a champion in both of those sports. [Larry] Bird, [Michael] Jordan, Magic [Johnson]… none of those guys can speak to that. Nobody in sports history.

"Anyone after us, they'll only know her through stories we now tell. I feel like that's my call to action. Tell the story, and the facts will speak for themselves."

Confidence in Fifa is faltering in many places, due to the handling of the World Cup in Qatar. But if the union acknowledges a possible mistake - and explains what happened, it would be a chance to recycle parts of it, says Gerhardsson.

- Actually, you should say that when you made the decision many years ago, you had wanted to sit with then. Sometimes the truth comes out after a while, about how this decision was made, which people were involved, how the discussions took place in the room or at the meetings to do this. 

He continues:

- When it comes to that trust, if you now said that it was a wrong decision, then a trust can increase depending on whether you can clarify this. At the moment, it feels very strange, this decision, says Gerhardsson.

I have been locked out of yet another anarchist message board. They must think I am a Cyber troll or an agent of the state. I have been locked out of other political message boards, too. From Twitter to FaceBook, I am buried in obscurity. My videos on YouTube have a low viewership. So, what now?

Should I blame myself? Conservatives would say yes, however, my logic says no. The type of Anarchists we have now are bourgeois, Millennial, white kids who started their careers playing video games on the Internet. As with any movement, the youth are the most enthusiastic and vibrant members. This incurs resentment by the preceding, older generation, which is a normal occurrence. Back in the day, we had a generation gap between the old Leftists and the new Left. I know I’ve said this before and I say it again here: The old Left declared, “Your long hair will alienate the working class!” Well, in a way, it did. The working class “Hard Hats” of New York City attacked Hippie, anti-war protesters circa 1970. A decade later, Hard Hats and major league baseball pitchers sported long hair! Truth be told, the old Left was opposed to identity politics. They used to say to us Yippies that homosexuality was not in the interest of the working class. Well, they changed their tune in the 70’s!

Today’s kids may dislike Baby Boomers, but the conservative Millennials have been brain-washed by Boomer Conservatives and routinely use their rhetoric to attack the so-called “Woke.” The stereotype of woke is not only cringe, but outright retarded and stupid! This is the real reason I am sad. The reality is that some Zoomers dislike me as a Boomer. It’s stupidity on their part, however. One day, they’ll realize who the real enemy is.

So, I am theoretically retired. I’ve promised myself to quit the Anarchist movement and do some charity work, or travel around the planet to see the natural beauty that it has to offer. Maybe explore the essence of inner peace and the soul of just being. Meditate by a waterfall and watch beavers gather up branches to build a dam across a river. Yeah, I might just stick my head in the sand or hug a Redwood tree.

All I wanted to do was to show the younger generation how corrupt American corporate culture is and the phoniness of Evangelical Christianity; how they advocate for personal liberty and then, on the other hand, want you to conform to capitalist classicism. I wanted to impress upon the youth that the Anti-Authoritarian left is different than the Authoritarian left, or just better than the Authoritarian right.

Maybe 200 years from now, there will be an Anarchist revolution. I think the only way America will have one is if Fascism does come to the USA, and the state’s suppression will push the youth into armed struggle. We are getting close. The ignorance of the working class is helping to bring forth this Fascist state, whether it be Christian theocracy or white nationalism. When the totalitarian state is established, the white working class will realize that the Fascist state will not improve their lives. In fact, it will make it worse. They will realize that Jesus is not coming back and the only way to survive is to sell Meth. They will realize that the Feminists, Blacks, illegal aliens, socialists, Islam, fake news, and rich Jews are not their enemies, but that it is the white men in corporate boardrooms and pastors behind the pulpit that are doing them in. Alas, they will find out when it’s too late!

As for me. My love of my life, Pamela, and I will live out our lives into our golden years with love, happiness, and freedom and, hopefully, peace. I will make damn sure that nobody hurts us!

I will slowly back away from American politics because it fuckin’ sucks! Good luck suckers!

So I asked and y’all say you wanted it, so here they are! These are all the books I read in February. I will include, a link to the synopsis of the book, my rating (5 star scale) and a short little review on why I gave it that rating! I hope you all enjoy this and if you want I can keep doing these! Review:

As the first book on my new reading journey I was so glad I picked Circe! The author has a passion for Greek mythology, something that shines through in the amazingly fleshed out and interesting characters. The book gripped me from the very first sentence and kept me in its hold until the last line. It’s an intense story full of thought provoking moments that really bind you to the characters. This is definitely a book I will reread in the future!

Synopsis

Review:

By the same author as Circe this story was a gentler and steadfast telling of friendship and love. I had put off reading this book because I had heard it was a sad book, however I am so glad I took the leap. Every ounce of heart ache was worth getting to see the characters relationship bloom and endure everything that comes against them. Another book for the reread shelf!

While I finished the previous two books within hours, this book took me longer to get into. I found it often sporting needless long rambling speeches that didn’t add much to the story. However, once I got into it after a few chapters It was a decent read. An entertaining POV into the world of the worlds richest people (fictionally of course) and how a regular woman fits into it all. Over all decent read but probably won’t read the rest of the series.

This is by far one of the best crime/thriller/mystery novels I have read in a long time! It takes no time at all to get right into things so it keeps your attention the whole time forcing you to turn the pages almost faster than you can read them. Every time I thought I had it figured out, the author would throw me a curve ball and make me rethink everything. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because there were elements that didn’t make complete sense to me, however it didn’t detract too much so it was over all still a very enjoyable read!

Review:

The synopsis of this book gave me high hopes for a thoughtful story about two ex con fathers coming to terms with things they may not understand and getting justice for their murdered sons. However, as I was reading it felt like the author was trying to juggle too many things at once and never found a good balance. Race, criminal past, homosexuality and the LGBT+ community and so many other things came into play but never quite seemed to come together like the author intended. While I did finish the book and on a base level it was a story that kept my attention I had a really hard time pushing through the narrative because (now this is my own opinion) it read a lot like “gay men only deserve attention and love once they are dead.” It was very hard to read past this message that seemed to permeate the narrative as well as other problematic takes on certain topics, and that is why my rating it so low.

Would love to hear what others thing if they have read this book or do read in the future.

An absolutely amazing, unique concept that captured me from the moment I read the back cover. Right off the bat I was interested in the main characters and the Scythe that recruits them. Finishing this book in 2 days - it was a page turner that almost got me in trouble at work! The world that the author builds and the society he created made for both a thrilling novel and also invoked some thought provoking reactions from me as well. This book constantly had me questioning my automatic thoughts and reactions to what the characters are having to go through and what society demands of them. Honestly if I could give it more than 5 starts I would. Looking forward to reading the next two books in the series.

There was only 1 F1 driver who was gay, Mike Beuttler, and he didn’t come out at the time he was racing back in the 70s. Even though, society is a lot more open now than ever when it comes to being an LGBTQ+ member, racing is still very much viewed as a “man’s sport”. I personally don’t think that any F1 driver would dare to come out any time soon. At least a thousand men have been F1 drivers and you can’t tell me that only one of them is an LGBTQ+ member.

Thank you for your message! You make lots of interesting points. I am a very new F1 fan so never heard of Mike Beuttler before but wow what an interesting, incredible, and sad story.

You mention in another message that amongst other things they would probably reduce the drivers screen time. I think this is interesting as F1, at least in my perspective, is essentially made for tv rather than the crowds. The tv audience they have is massive and they spend a lot of money on the coverage being as vast, interactive, and information heavy as possible. This works best for tv audience rather than an in person audience. (I don’t doubt that going to a race is a great experience but it must be different, if that makes sense). So therefore the television coverage impacts how most of the F1 audience perceive the race and the stuff around it. Lot’s of people talk about how Drive to Survive changed the narrative on lots of stories in F1. I got into F1 partially through DTS and I genuinely thought Danny Ric and Max Verstappen hated each other! So there is no reason that the F1 coverage can't be used to influence in the same way. Obviously it is live but the point still stands I think! This could be for good, a drivers protection or for worse, to gloss over important issues. Like you mention, many countries view a Grand Prix as a way to advertise their country and this too could be taken into account for in the way a GP is covered.

IDK I find television an interesting subject so could ponder and ramble for longer but this is off topic.

I do hope that motor sport becomes a much more accepting place for the drivers and for everyone watching. Another person mentioned that a few of the W Series drivers are publicly out as gay/bi etc which is really cool! However, I noticed that they have never raced in a country where homosexuality is criminalised despite being an F1 follow series. I wonder if this is intentional or just chance.

True Appearance: His left eye is violet and his right eye is brown (his twin is reversed).  He keeps the black hair he got from his father’s side shaggy but short.  Maintaining his hair is very important to him, and it is always trimmed and styled perfectly.  His skin care is the same way in that he always needs to keep up with it.  He claims contacts irritate him, so he only wears them on Earth, or only if absolutely necessary.  He has both ears pierced along with an eyebrow piercing on his left one.  He takes great lengths to stay clean and put-together, and so he is uncomfortable whenever he is sweaty, dirty, or his clothes are wrinkled.

Backstory: Robin was born to Alisz Astrea and Henry Kim, and was the older twin by a matter of a couple minutes.  From a young age, he was loud, forward, and full of energy, whereas his brother was more shy and timid.  He began inheriting special genetic traits from his erkuss and human sides while his brother notably wasn’t, such as reliving past memories, swimming, and electromagnetism.  Robin has always felt guilt over this, especially when his mother began taking a special interest in him.  Because of their difference in personality, and because of the development in other abilities, Robin has always felt protective over his twin.

He was trained from infancy as basically the miniature version of their mother: smuggling, strategizing, and fighting with combat and weapons were just a few of the skills ingrained into him until they became like another sense.  He grew to be confident, even cocky in his abilities.  It was clear from the start that becoming a great smuggler was very important to his mother, that he and his twin were born and raised to become universe-renowned and more than carry on the family reputation, and he has always given it everything he has.  And if he put everything into it, he hoped the attention would be away from his brother.  When Alisz began taking him on missions and shouldering more responsibility on him, he only adjusted to take the weight.  And that’s what he’s been doing.  At this point, he’s not sure what it’s like to not feel like he has an extra weight, or what it’s like to not be stressed about something.

For a while, his past memories were very intense.  When he slept, he often didn’t know which were memories and which were dreams, but he eventually learned to recognize some of the faces in them which helped him to decipher the two (although sometimes he would dream about the memories, which was a whole different mess).  Many of these memories were happy ones: weddings, reunions, playing sports, or hugging and embracing.  When he was young, he would gladly tell anyone in his family who was within earshot of the memories he remembered, but quickly learned that doing so could be harmful to their dad.  Their father was a victim of the kidnapping of an Australian town in the early 80s, has since been unable to leave Kraysha, and Henry continues to feel the effects of this even years down the line.  Instead of being happy his son remembered his mother’s birthday party, Henry would lose his smile and turn away.  Robin enjoyed talking, but not if it was going to make his father sad, and so instead of telling his family, he began to record them with many, many journals.  After a while, the memories stopped being so intense, only happening once in a while.  With that, he also grew to be much more subdued over time, preferring to pore his thoughts over writing, rather than with his family and saying things out loud.  And if thoughts were too fragmented to put to a page, he learned to keep them in his head.

Regardless of the training that commanded a large portion of their lives, he and Ryder still had pretty good childhoods.  Both their parents were Earth culture nerds and fans of collecting, and so the twins grew up with an above-average knowledge of video games, movies, and tv shows, though sometimes Robin’s knowledge is lacking in musicals and things he deemed slightly cringy in his youth.  Ryder has always been his best friend and main confidant, and the twins’ childhood friend Skylar Clarke has always been more like an older brother.

It was his mother, who through her connections with Daphne’s family, got the twins interviews with the Prosperity.  Serving as the Prosperity’s second-in-command at such a young age would have been a daunting task, but Robin was literally raised to do it.  He is sometimes irresponsible and unable to see a situation fully for what it is, but he is learning on the job and getting better with time.

Skills: Very organized.  Smuggling, negotiating, strategizing and combat including hand-to-hand, knife/shortswords, and firearms.  A natural leader, great at initiating and leading a discussion or group and can offer his own ideas or raise up other people’s ideas (Whether Robin’s ideas are good or not, though, is a different matter).  Great handwriting, perfect for correspondence.  Pretty good at impressions, but needs to work on his Kermit the Frog.
