ok spoilers below for soto, both the newest release and the previous one, just thinking about how it could have played out different and been more compelling specifically to me
Imagine if we hadnt of killed Heitor in the same instance we met her in. Imagine if she had instead survived and given up, letting Peitha take her prisoner, and we got to see more of the dynamic between the two form. The way the two used to be very close, but then split apart very messily as Peitha's ambitions started getting bigger and more treasonous, to the point where it scared Heitor too much for her to stick with this plan anymore. And the two havent spoken since but when peitha brings up to the commander they have to get past Heitor, shes still hopeful she can save someone she used to be so close to.
Now, we move into the newest drop, and we're on the warpath towards queen Labris. We see more of the old dynamic between Peitha and Heitor, we see Heitor start to earn some of Peitha's trust and we start to see what an idealist Peitha is as she, despite the warnings of everyone, starts to give Heitor room and an opinion in proceedings. She starts to let Heitor fight by our side, to the frustration of new ally Nephus and old ally Arina. As we run into Queen Labris, we start to see her dynamic with Heitor as well, and we start to see parallels between that relationship and Heitor's relationship to Peitha. We get to the confrontation with Labris, and Heitor seems hesitant, but Peitha is supportive of her, still caring for her. We go into the fight and manage to win. Peitha still opts to take Labris prisoner, like in the actual game, still despite everyone else telling her it's a terrible idea. Except, this time, Heitor is there to encourage her. It's the right call, to take the queen prisoner, they can use this bargaining power.
We move into the final instance, Peitha's speech in the colosseum. We try to sway the kryptis to our side. We get attacked. Eparch himself doesn't come, it's far too soon for him to show his face and this is far too small for him to get involved in, but he sends an army of loyalist, led by Nereidum and Vespera, the chosen and scribe of Charybda. It's a difficult fight, but saving kryptis from the audience from being collateral will add more allies to your side as you keep fighting, until the attack finally stops.
And as the dust settles, you realize Queen Labris and Heitor are both gone.
Peitha having to deal with the weight of having possibly been wrong, Galrath seeing how Peitha's caring and optimistic nature is winning over the local kryptis to her side just as much if not more so than her cunning, Heitor and Labris getting to be more than one off villains of the week, the way the plot could build from there, the way we could learn more about Peitha from the way she interacts with these parts of her past and the way she confronts unexpected trials, like it couldve been really good if we were a little less quick to kill off the final bosses of these chapters? And it would have left the plot hanging in a really engaging spot.
Anet you need to let Peitha actually fail and struggle anet are you listening to me? We could have used the fucked up dynamics of how the generals are and arent actually family, like how the greek gods were, to really explore these characters and we could have made Peitha look like she keeps coming on to the commander because shes desperately lonely being cut off from the people she grew up with anet are you listening anet what if Peitha faced betrayal by people she genuinely loves and loved so she's desperate for someone to trust but makes herself seem untrustworthy as a protective barrier against being hurt again hey anet what if-

Do you need signs from hellenic deities or is there any chance that they will not work with you??
I've heard Artemis is picky with who she works with but then again, unreliable source because tiktok 🚶‍♂️
Hey, Nonny!
Genuinely, I would not take any advice or listen to TikTok pagans or polytheists in the slightest. Misinformation is spread rampantly there, and people often make ridiculous claims. I would just disregard it completely, if I'm going to be honest. I don't think I've ever learned anything helpful from there. I'm not shaming you for finding information there, though, just so you know! It's hard to know which sources to trust when it comes to such a freedom-based religion.
That said, you don't need signs from deities - in general - to start worshipping them. I only engage in deity worship (which I honestly think still includes "work"; deities still help you improve on specific aspects of your life through worshipping them), but I've personally not met a deity who is unwilling to receive worship or veneration. My biggest piece of advice to you is to just jump right into it! What do you have to lose by reaching out? Remember that deities are the protection from evil, not the cause of it. There aren't any negative consequences for simply reaching out.
That said, however, if you want more certainty before beginning, I recommend looking into different divination methods. This is the best way, imo, to receive a direct answer from a deity. It allows for back and forth conversation, oftentimes, as well which is undeniably useful. I recommend simply reaching out and asking the deity in question if they're interested, if it bothers you a lot.
In my experience with Artemis, btw, she has not been picky. She seems to be very welcoming and has always been kind to me, even looking out for and protecting me from danger. She is extremely compassionate (I believe she actually has something similar to "Kind" or "Compassionate" as one of her epithets) and tends to be very nurturing, in my experience. I recommend simply reaching out. I see no harm in doing so.
Also, if you'd like some good resources on Hellenic deities and worship, I highly recommend the book Hellenic Polytheism: Household Worship by Labrys. I also recommend looking into ancient works, such as Theogony by Hesiod or The Library of Greek Mythology by Apollodorus. These can simply inform you on the culture and myths surrounding the gods, though I would not interpret them literally personally. I've also heard Artemis by Stephanie Budin is good, though I haven't read it myself. I've simply heard this from other worshippers of Artemis. As for online resources, as always, Theoi.com is a great place to find very basic information about Artemis as a goddess. It doesn't include much worship information, but you can likely find out more traditional ways of worship by looking into her ancient cults, if that interests you.
If any of my followers know of any good resources on Artemis, please feel free to let me know! I'd love to give Nonny a solid place to start.
I hope this helps! I wish you luck on your new journey. I wish you well! Take care, and have a good day/night. 🧡

Day 2: Not always American
This pride flag is the most well-known and used version of the lesbian flag, despite the flag only being about six years old.
This flag was specifically created by tumblr user Emily Gwen, and has spread around the world.
Different variations are the lipstick lesbian flag, the pink lesbian flag, and the earliest and most variations, the Labrys lesbian flag, which has a black axe over a purple flag.
A word often used to describe WLW relationships is Sapphic, derived from the lesbian poet Sappho.
Though, you don't have to be a female to identify as a lesbian. Some enbys, such as myself, identify as lesbian.

Wheel of Hecate
The Hecate’s Wheel is an ancient symbol connected with the cult of the goddess Hecate whose meaning is still debated and mysterious.
The symbol that we see in modern days consists of a maze with three distinct whirls that are connected in the center. The number three recalls to the triple form of the goddess that was seen as ruler of the sky, sea, and earth and guardian of the crossroads. The labyrinth recalls to the ancient labris of the Minoan culture representing transformation and rebirth.
Many are the possible origins and interpretation of this symbol represented in the past as a four spoked or eight spoked wheel symbolizing the four seasons, the four elements or a primeval representation of the lunar or season cycle.
The four spoked wheel represented an ancient tool called the Iynx, a small metal or wooden discs rotated by pulling attached strings that reproduced the pulse call of the Eurasian wryneck, a bird called Iynx. This bird was originally associated with Aphrodite and according to the myth this tool was used as a magical love-charm to draw lovers together or to draw out passion.
The Iynx is sometimes associated with the Strophalos another spinning tool used in the ancient cult of Hecate. According to the Chaldean Oracles the Strophalos was a spinning top dedicated to the goddess Hecate used to invoke the presence of the deity in the celebration of a ritual. By summoning the divine presence, and through the sound produced by the spinning, the theurgist was able to reach prophetic visions.
Spinning tools and their ability to connect the divine world with the mortal one is seen also in the cult of Dionysus. According to the myth the Titans used toys to lure Dionysus and eat him, these toys had a specific religious significance connected with the divine power of Dionysus. Among these toys there was an ancient object called Rhombos or Kohnos, a spinning top that made sounds that resembled the thunder or the bullroarer and that represented the divine power of Dionysus Tauropon and Bromio. The spinning movement of the object also resemble the movement of tornadoes and the idea of Mania, the alteration of consciousness that was used to attain vision and enlightenment.
The wheel of Hecate is now seen as an esoteric symbol connected with the triple form of the goddess and her feminine power over life and death, but the genesis of this symbol probably lies behind ancient magical tools capable of connecting humans to deities and used for divination purposes. The symbol represents Hecate’s control over liminal spaces and her ability to connect this world to the divine one and to its mysterious knowledge.

Thinking about Persona 4 Arena Ultimax
Specifically the Persona 3 side of it.
Tumblr media
I think it's interesting (and kinda funny) how a lot of the P3 content in this game is built upon the many CD Dramas that released in Japan following Persona 3/FES' releases, specifically the New Moon/Full Moon and Daylight/Moonlight Duologies.
Tumblr media
As what's most likely the largest example, Labrys, one of the two major characters introduced in the game, was actually named in the Moonlight CD, which was released back in 2007 (Arena was released in 2012, for reference)
"The 7th Generation, Aigis, was created from all the data we'd obtained from all prior designs up to the 5th Generation, Labrys." (Moonlight)
Tumblr media
Aigis' and Labrys' motivation of finding their mother is also building upon the story of Moonlight, where Aigis is able to speak with the girl whose personality was one of the bases used for the Anti-Shadow Weapon development project, and who refers to herself as her mother (but looks more like her younger sister).
"That's right... in human terms, I guess I'm kinda like your mother or something? A-ah, but based on our outward appearances, I guess I look more like your younger sister?" (Moonlight)
(For context, she is forced to forget this meeting at the end of the CD, but resolves to meet with the girl in real life. She isn't named, but we're told she has black hair.)
Tumblr media
I think Mitsuru is the most interesting, as her appearance in the game is almost wholly influenced by the story of the New Moon/Full Moon Drama CDs, which are a side story covering her and the broader Kirijo Group's situation immediately following Takeharu's death, released in 2009.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mitsuru's story opens up with her going public about the bloody past of the Kirijo Group and the existence of the Dark Hour and Shadows. This is following up on her resolution near the end of Full Moon, where she states plainly that this is the path she's going to take.
Ichiro Takadera: "Well then, do you intend to make a public announcement regardless of what follows? About the Shadows and so on?"
Mitsuru: "That is my path in life. I cannot stray from it." (Full Moon)
Tumblr media
Kikuno Saikawa, Mitsuru's right hand maid and one of the shadow operatives, also made her debut in New/Full Moon. The two of them met when they were children, and Kikuno vowed to protect Mitsuru after she'd saved her from her despair as a child.
Kikuno: "Six years ago, when I learned my stay at the hospital wasn't because of illness but because I was sold over by my parents, you were the one who saved me from my despair. On that day, I swore I'd devote my life to following this person." (Full Moon)
Ultimax was the first time she was given a design, but she would later appear in the Persona 3 Movie: Winter of Rebirth. Her characterization in Ultimax is pretty faithful to her depiction in the CD.
Tumblr media
(A fun fact is that Kikuno was also mentioned in the "Seaside Vacation Before Death's Scythe" Drama CD, which was released in 2013 as a promotion for the then upcoming first Persona 3 Movie, Spring of Birth.)
Tumblr media
One of the Kirijo artifacts mentioned in Mitsuru's prologue is a ring that gives its wearer immunity to the effects of the Dark Hour. This too is an object introduced in New/Full Moon.
"Also, there is no need to worry, as everyone who are not in possession of special powers, including me, will wear this ring. While it's on you are able to experience the Dark Hour and even when you take it off your memories of it will remain." (New Moon)
Something that doesn't come up in Ultimax is that if you smash the jewel in the center of the ring, you'll lose all your memories of the Dark Hour. It's an interesting little thing! I mean it's. Useless now cause the Dark Hour is gone but it's pretty cool...
Tumblr media
Mitsuru's main internal conflict is her inability to ask others for help for fear of burdening or endangering them. This is something that comes up in Persona 3, but in the Drama CDs this aspect of her character is very deeply explored. It's her main emotional arc and the source of her conflict with Yukari in both the New/Full Moon CDs and Persona 3 Character Drama Vol. 4, which focuses on their relationship.
Yukari: Is your faith in us that weak?
Mitsuru: To be frank, I can't bear it anymore. I don't want others to die for my sake!
Y: And you're gonna sacrifice yourself because of that? Why do you take on so much by yourself? Is that really okay with you? Don't you want to see your friends and family again?! And to survive?! Why can't you just be honest?!
M: Of course I want to! But...that is...what should I say? It's always like that...whenever I get soft or burden others... They might end up dying again. [...] Aragaki, and my Father... What am I supposed to tell you after all that happened? Even if I'm afraid and wish to be saved, what do I say?! What should I say?! (Full Moon)
Tumblr media
Yukari even brings up that they've had this talk before. It could be referring to their heart to heart in Kyoto, but I think it could also be read as their conflicts in the CDs too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Ken asks Kikuno where she learned to fly a helicopter, she states that she learned it after being involved in an assault operation on a high school dormitory, an incident which Ken says he remembers. (Say it with me now!) This is most likely referencing the climax in Full Moon, where the Kirijo Group led by Takadera attempt to raid Iwatodai Dorm and forcibly apprehend SEES, so as to avoid the possibility of Ikutsuki's plot and the Group's sins from becoming public.
There's definitely more stuff, but I just wanted to point out the things I noticed/particularly liked with Mitsuru's story.
Tumblr media
I think Junpei suffers the most from having a lot of his characterization be taken from the CDs. A lot of people were (and still are) confused about P4AU Junpei's seemingly sudden hard pivot to Baseball, as in Persona 3 proper, it's not a very large aspect of his character.
But in the CDs, Junpei being Into Baseball is MUCH more prominent. As in he refers to everyday situations in baseball terms sometimes.
In Persona 3 Character Drama Vol 2., (released in 2008 and centered around Junpei and Chidori) Junpei dreams about taking Chidori out on a date, and eventually settles on asking her to go to a baseball game with him. (She accepts, if you were curious).
He talks with Chidori about baseball so much that she got into it herself and started watching baseball in the hospital.
At the end of Moonlight, the SEES gang talk about what they want to do after they defeat Nyx, and Junpei says he wants to go to a baseball game. They even kind of tacitly explain why he didn't talk about it all that much ingame by saying he'd fallen out of interest in it but that he "feels like it's returned in full force!"
Tumblr media
The thing about P4AU's heavy references to the CDs though, especially in Junpei's case, is that they were never officially translated or released outside of Japan. To this day the only way for non-Japanese speaking audiences to experience the CDs is to listen to them with (usually slightly incomplete) fansubs online.
While I kind of appreciate the novelty of that, it's definitely caused some confusion when it comes to characterization. In P3 Reload, for instance, Junpei makes a lot more references to baseball in his dialogue. And for a lot of people, it feels like the purpose of that is to retroactively make Junpei's appearance in P4AU make more sense.
And while that's not incorrect, it misses the fact that Junpei was already established to like baseball in supplementary material before Arena came out. It's more like making his character consistent with the same material that P4AU used when writing Junpei.
But it's not like you can even blame people for thinking that because a lot of people are normal and don't listen to 16 year old fan translated Drama CDs uploaded to youtube. It's just interesting to me I suppose. I wonder how much characterization we miss due to lack of access to supplementary material.
Anyway you should listen to the CDs though they're really good. New Moon/Full Moon especially.
Moonlight is also very good, it's a pseudo-prelude to The Answer, and the character writing is top notch.
But that's all I had to say, really. Just thought it'd be fun to talk about.

So wanted to share my short thoughts about the female kryptis designs so far. My main thought is that I feel like a good thing to keep in mind when critiquing Heitor and Labris deigns, specifically the critic about how they reuse Peithas base model, is that given how short their appearance is in the story it would be a waste of resources and time to give them completely new designs. The things they did change about them, Horns, leg armor and shoulders are good enough to differentiate them. I think its even cool to see the different kind of horns kryptis can grow! :D
that said I don't knock anyone for not liking them or wishing for them to be more monstrous. Its just that, in my personal opinion, I don't see Heitor and Labris's design as being lazy on anets part. They are navigating a new format of releasing expansions [probably on NCSofts orders] in parts and on a shorter time schedule, and so we'll be seeing the effects of that. Now if we had a new female kryptis introduced to the story that was meant to be a recurring character whether it be a villain or new companion and she didn't even have a unique face, then I'd be more critical.

hey btw sean campbell didnt make the lesbian flag it was actually emily gwen. maybe before telling others to learn their history you should learn it first dumbass
hey cunt, sean campbell made the original labrys pride flag way back in 1999. it was (one of) the first actual dyke/lesbian flags to be used, followed up by the lipstick lesbian flag (created in the 2010 by natalie cray). following this the sunset flag (the one you have cited here) was made in 2018. i specifically mentioned the labrys pride flag because it was one of the first pride flags made specifically for lesbians. thanks for completely missing the point of me bringing it up!

hey! genuine question, ive only seen the flag you have in your icon called the “butch lesbian flag” and i see that you say in your bio
do you also consider yourself lesbian? or are non-lesbians allowed to use the flag?
i ask because im butch but not lesbian and idk if i can use that flag
So, I for years would put the bi flag behind a character, as a headcanon or they WERE bi or because I just felt like it. I changed my icon to Van from Yellowjackets and, confident she would NOT ID as bi, it felt odd to put the flag behind her even if it was MY identity. So I put a shared one: butch.
Now, there’s lots of lesbian flags, trans inclusive or exclusive, there is the labrys, with all its complicated history and imagery. And there’s two butch flags. This one, which stresses butch lesbian:
Tumblr media
And this one, which tends to either say butch lesbian or butch on its own:
Tumblr media
I liked it, for its similarity to the Bear Flag, another group of shunned and complicated queer mascs.
Do I identify with the term lesbian?
Yes and no. I identify with it for the fact that many people have used it how I use bisexual throughout history, as for many it was more adjacent to “sapphic” or “likes women in a gay way.” There are male lesbians and bi lesbians and nb lesbians and lots of ways to be a lesbian. Some used the label AS a gender.
In many ways I identify with it, in others, the label makes me feel distant from another part of myself. My attraction to men would often be assumed absent if I used lesbian INSTEAD of bisexual, regardless of it I or others used it that way. So I hover on the cusp of the term lesbian and reach for bisexual first, sometimes only.
Now, words like dyke? I get told you cannot reclaim it if you aren’t a capital L Lesbian. But I’ve been called it. Plenty. I would attend dyke marches. The Boston Dyke March explicitly included bi dykes in their definition. Frankly, they said anyone who identifies with being a dyke is welcome to call themselves one.
So what about butch? I tell people to read it all the time but I went and copied the full opening essay of Butch Is A Noun titled “I Know What Butch Is” and will add it under the cut.
But long story (essay) short, if you identify with butchness, congrats, you’re a butch, and can use the butch flag.
I know what butch is. I know, and I’m going to tell you, so listen up and take notes. First of all, butch is a noun. And an adjective. And a verb.
Butches only ever wear jeans and boots, except if they’re wearing suits, and they keep their hair clipped down to a flattop you could putt off. Except if they have to for work. Or if they want to for sex. Or if they want to for some other reason. But otherwise it’s denim and leather and butch wax, kid, and don’t you forget it. Unless you’re vegan.
Toughness, even at the expense of gentleness, is a butch trait. Butches are outlaws. Also gentlemen. Gentlemen who open doors and pick up checks and say “after you” and hold your umbrella over you in the rain while the water drips down their sleeves. But butches not gentlemen if being a gentleman means imposing on the unsuspecting their sexist modes of acting out the cultural paradigm of the helplessness of women. Except if the unsuspecting are crying and need a handkerchief, or elderly and need a seat to sit down in, then it’s all right. Probably. But butches should never wait for a femme to tell them specifically that it is all right to behave in a gentlemanly fashion, they should just go ahead and do it because femmes like a butch with confidence, unless it turns out that she finds it offensive and feels as though you have imposed your gender fetish on her, you arrogant bastard.
And butches are monosyllabic, until you get to know them, which they will not allow but want, or will allow and want, or will allow but don’t want, or won’t allow and don’t want, so you may or may not get to know them, but you should try, or not. But butches are monosyllabic because all that talking is girl stuff, you know? Butches grunt in answer to questions; they speak sharply and emphatically. They do not share, process, or explain because these are activities that bring nothing but trouble, unless they are bringing relief to the troubled heart of a butch carrying around too much hurt or pain, though butches do not actually feel pain; they’re tough enough to either slough it off like dead skin or deal with all of that themselves. Unless someone wants for them to be emotionally available, in which case they can feel their feelings even though the presence of feelings is suspect in the first place, but they must stop immediately as soon as someone else is having a tough time so that all their resources can be directed to soothing that person.
I know what butch is. Butches are not beginner FTMs, except that sometimes they are, but it’s not a continuum except when it is. Butch is not a trans identity unless the butch in questions says it is, in which case it is, unless the tranny in question says it isn’t, in which case it’s not. There is no such thing as butch flight, no matter what the femmes or elders say, unless saying that invalidates the opinions of femmes in a sexist fashion or the opinions of elders in an ageist fashion. Or if they’re right. But they are not, because butch and transgender are the same thing with different names, except that butch is not a trans identity, unless it is; see above.
Butches are always tops. They always fuck the girls, and, for that matter, their partners are always girls; there is no such thing as a butch who is attracted to men. Well, transmen, but that’s just butch-on-butch repackaged as faggotry. But no non-trans-men. Unless the butch in question is a non-trans-man, then it’s okay. Except that non-trans-men cannot be butches, because butch is a queering of gender that assigned-male people cannot embody, unless they occasionally can, in which case they have to be gay men. Or the partners of femmes. Or not. But no one with an assigned-female body can be a butch and do it with assigned-male men. Unless they’re femmes. Or butches. I’m really putting my foot down on this one.
I know what butch is, and butches definitely, absolutely, do not get fucked, even if it feels so good to have someone slide in sweet and hard and rock them just right. They might eat pussy but they never suck cock, because licking pussy is chivalry without pants, and, of course, any butch would want to do anything to please the femme in hir life, if there is a femme. Which there has to be, in order to be a true butch, except if there does not have to be, but you cannot be a misogynist about it either, which a lack of interest in femmes and their attendant delights may be read as—if there is a lack, which there shouldn’t be. But anyway, cocksucking is about ownership and dominance, so butches must always be the ones having their cocks sucked, unless the owner of the cock being sucked by a butch is tied to something, but if a butch were tying down someone with a cock of some variety then the above rule would quite likely be violated, and I think I’ve been very clear about that, so never mind.
Butch has a lot of privilege because butches pass as men a lot, and butches also have a lot of privilege in the queer community because butch reads as queer and femme doesn’t always, and being able to pass to keep one’s self safe isn’t privilege if you’re a femme but it is if you’re a butch. Unless this is a butch who can pass as a heteronormative woman, in which case ze’s not really a butch anyway because no butch could do such a thing. Except that some of them can and also having kids really helps, even though no butch could have kids because of the rule about not getting fucked and also because that’s a femme’s job, but not everyone really understood their butchness all the way along and also sometimes there are fertility issues and also sometimes there’s not a femme so we’ll grandfather in some children but we’ll be suspicious of those butches. Unless they’re really great butch dads of whatever sex, in which case we’ll think it’s the damn cutest thing in the world and punch them on the arm, or if they’re awesome butch moms we’ll make approving comments about their ability to raise feminist men, but otherwise no children and no heteronormativity for sure, except for assigned male butches who do not exist.
Besides all of that, the butch pays. If there’s only one butch on the date. Unless the femme wants to. If there’s a femme present. If there’s a femme present, the butch pays unless hir paying would upset the femme or unless it creates class issues for the butch or patriarchy issues for the femme. Or if it’s two butches on a date, which they shouldn’t be. Or they should. In any case, they arm-wrestle for it. Except in such situations in which a public display of aggression on the part of butches, or an interaction which may be read as such, could potentially be detrimental to the community, to the mental health of those witnessing the act, to the butches themselves for feeling compelled to act out normative masculine-gendered conflict-resolution tactics, or to the glassware of the dining establishment, which so often gets broken. But otherwise, the butch always pays, and there’s just no getting around that.
I know what butch is. Butches are a brotherhood, or possibly a sisterhood, which would be a marvelous way to reclaim butch’s roots in the lesbian community except some butches were never part of the lesbian community and some were but aren’t any more, but placing masculine identities on butches is disrespectful, except when it’s desirable, but anyway, butches are a tribe, a tribe of people who have been maligned endlessly for, and in fact forged an identity in part out of, not fitting the gendered expectations of the culture in which they exist (until or unless they work to pass as men, which always or never or sometimes happens and is absolutely a great or problematic thing), so butches are very open to gendered variations in others and would never, ever try to make another butch feel like shit for having displayed a behavior which does not fit the microculture’s standard of what it means to be a butch, which is a useful or idealized or ridiculous or just plain complicated standard, so it should be adhered to, or critiqued, or aspired to, or not. Butches would also certainly never try to school younger butches in ways that are angry and dangerous because they feel like the process of toughening has disappeared from modern culture and butches need to be tough, dammit. Butches who do those sorts of things either are Real Butches or are Not Real Butches, depending who you ask.
There, that should be perfectly clear.

After seeing your Roma lesbians post I was wondering if you know what Romani lesbians think of the labrys lesbian flag? I'm asking because I once saw a bisexual Roma girl saying how it's anti-Roma because the upside down black triangle was used on lesbians very briefly and was actually predominantly a symbol Nazis used on Romani people.
Sorry for the delay, I’ve been working on that ask for the past few days because it’s a very delicate question that I knew I would eventually get asked one day (and I’ve also delayed it because I’ve literally been insane for the past 3 days but I’m calmer now lol)
I’m gonna preface this by saying two things:
1. When it comes to questions about the remembrance of the Romani Holocaust, it’s best to listen to Roma people from countries where Roma were exterminated by the Nazis (excluding the US, the UK, and Spain). Saying this because I’ve seen some British and American Roma trying to speak over continental European Roma about how we should feel about Holocaust symbols.
2. I am a history major focusing on Romani Holocaust history and also a Romani lesbian. I know several other Romani lesbians (some of them are radfems, some are libfems, some aren’t particularly feminists)
To answer your question: All the Romani lesbians (once again, only talking about those from countries where the Romani genocide happened) I know, including myself, are very critical of the labrys flag and are opposed to gadje (including lesbian gadje, including jewish gadje, including lesbian jewish gadje) reclaiming the black triangle.
I will explain the reasons why below the cut because this post is going to be pretty long
Very brief introduction: the black triangle was a badge used by Nazis, notably at Auschwitz-Birkenau, to mark "asocial" prisoners. The category "asocial" was a very broad one encompassing all categories of individuals who were seen as "parasitic" or as a "nuisance" and likely to cause the degeneration of the German people. These categories were: "Gypsies", alcoholics, homeless people, prostitutes, and many many more.
But the Roma have a very specific relationship with the black triangle, very different from the one other “asocial” groups have with it because:
1. It was a symbol of racist (not only social) persecution. For the "Gypsies", the asocial category had a very racial component (Roma were thought of as being homeless alcoholics etc by blood and heredity).  It laid the ground for racist persecution.
2. Most “asocial” inmates were Roma, especially after the december 1942 Auschwitz Decree in which Himmler orders the deportation of all European Roma to Auschwitz to be murdered (also known as the Final Solution to the Gypsy Question). After december 1942, most “asocials” happened to be Roma. There were 24.000 Roma in Auschwitz in total, meanwhile there were fewer than 200 prostitutes.
3. For Roma, it was a symbol of extermination. The Roma, alongside Jewish people, were the only group marked for total annihilation by the Nazis. As a result, the experience of Roma was very different from the one of all the other “asocial” groups.
Non-romani “asocials” were sent to concentration camps. Meanwhile, Roma were sent to concentration and extermination camps and were often at the very bottom of the camp hierarchy alongside Jewish people. The Auschwitz “Gypsy camp” had one of the highest death rate of all the camps in Auschwitz.
4. Aftermath. The Romani genocide resulted in the death of 25-67% (estimations) of the total Romani population in Europe at the time, including the entirety of the Bohemian, Lituanian, Latvian and Estonian Romani populations. These are proportions that no other asocial categories reached. Because these categories weren't targeted for extermination.
NB: not saying all this to take away from the violence and suffering non-romani alcoholics, prostitutes, and homeless people went through in concentration camps. I just want to stress that Roma people have a unique relationship with the black triangle because it’s the symbol that was associated with our genocide. For us, it meant gas chambers and Mengele experimenting on little Romani children (yeah because as he was the head of the “Gypsy hospital”, Romani kids were his favourite targets).
So this is why we generally don’t want gadje to use the black triangle. Because we were the only ones exterminated during a genocide whil wearing it.
But now, as for lesbians in particular reclaiming the black triangle, we usually bring up other talking points such as:
Very few lesbians were deported to concentration camps for being lesbians. In camp registries, the mention “lesbian” was always put as an addendum, and was never registered as being the first and main reason for imprisonment. That means lesbianism was an “aggravating factor” that usually worsened the experience of the lesbian detainees, but it was not the determining factor behind their arrestation. Most of the lesbians who were deported, were deported because they belonged to another group, mostly Jewish or Romani.
For example, in Ravensbrück (a very large, female-exclusive concentration camp), there were only 3 registered lesbians. Two of them were deported for political reasons (with “lesbian” as an addendum), so they wore the red triangle. One of them was deported for being “asocial”, so she had to wear the black triangle. That is only one lesbian being made to wear the black triangle within a camp of 130.000-132.000 inmates. Meanwhile, all the Romani women in Ravensbrück wore the black triangle. There is a clear disproportion here, between 1 registered lesbian gadji and thousands of Romani women.
NB: I am not saying this to take away from the suffering lesbian gadje went through in concentration camps. Their experience was usually worse than the one of straight women if other people knew these women were lesbians. I am also not AT ALL implying the Nazis didn’t persecute lesbians. During the IIIrd Reich, lesbians had to deal with intense misogyny that forced all women to marry and make children on the one hand, and with intense homophobia on the other hand, which resulted in intense policing, social surveillance, and destruction of the lesbian culture they had built in the Weimar Republic.
To conclude, the Romani lesbians that I know, who come from countries where the Romani Holocaust happened, and who are aware of the existence of the labrys flag, are against lesbian gadje reclaiming the black triangle for the following reasons:
1. Roma are the only “asocial” group to have endured genocide at the hands of the Nazis in concentration and extermination camps.
2. Roma have a lot of intergenerational trauma because of the Holocaust. Other “asocial” groups don’t, because for alcoholic and homeless people, for prostitutes and for lesbians, collective memory isn’t passed from parents to children. A Romani child has Romani (great-)grandparents who survived the Holocaust, but a lesbian child doesn’t necessarily descend from lesbian Holocaust survivors.
3. Obscuring the fact that the black triangle was a predominantly anti-romani hate symbol is also detrimental to spreading awareness and educating people about the Romani Holocaust. This point is maybe the most important because the Romani genocide is incredibly overlooked, and by “overlooked”, I mean:
the FRG only recognized the Romani genocide in 1982. Up until that date, courts maintained that the persecution Roma suffered because of the Nazis between 1939 and 1942 had been lawful and justified because we were “primitive” criminals
absolutely no Nazi or former SS doctor was ever condemned by a court for crimes committed against Roma people
most Romani survivors never received any financial compensation
the majority of the Romani survivors who are still alive today live in poverty. About 80% of the total European Romani population are at risk of poverty.
And all of this is why seeing the black triangle associated first and foremost with lesbophobia and with lesbian history is distasteful to the Romani lesbians I know and whose families were persecuted by the Nazis.
This is already very long but I am going to add a few things:
1. Even Romani activists don’t reclaim the black triangle. In many Romani cultures, there is a deep and almost religious respect of dead people, of our dead ancestors etc. Even saying the name of dead people can be a huge taboo. The only exception to this, are German Sinti activists who wore the black triangle during protests and hunger strikes in the 1980s, but most of these people were themselves Holocaust survivors and they were protesting for the FRG to recognize the Romani genocide.
2. Romani lesbians face a lot of lesbophobia and misogyny from their own communities (you can check up Vera Kurtic’s radical feminist book Dzuvljarke to know more about this if you want). Yet lesbian spaces, which are supposed to be safe spaces for us, can feel very alienating for us because of how much the black triangle can be present, and how prevalent it is to portray it as a predominantly anti-lesbian symbol. I personally have a good lot of intergenerational trauma associated with the Holocaust, I had constant nightmares about it during my childhood, I can be triggered by it sometimes, and if it’s possible for me to avoid being exposed to symbols that instantly brings to my mind the thought of my people, my ancestors, my family, dying or being tortured, I do that. And yes, this is very alienating.
3. Most of the time if not all of the time this debate is brought up, it usually ends with lesbian gadje being racist against Roma. I’ve seen it many times. Lesbian Roma are constantly talked over, insulted, and bullied every time one of us criticizes the labrys flag. That’s why I’m begging you to please not send me rape or death threats, please don't be mean or mad at me for this post otherwise i will deactivate and die ig.
I once again want to reiterate that I am really not taking away from all the pain lesbians endured because of the Nazis. Lesbophobia and misogyny were an integrant part of the Nazi regime. Lesbians’ experience in concentration camps was worsened by the fact they were lesbians. I personally think that we can acknowledge all of that while simultaneously acknowledging that Nazis carried a genocide against Roma and that the black triangle was mostly worn by Roma, to mark all the Roma wearing it for genocide, and is a predominantly anti-romani symbol first and foremost. These two statements can coexist.
If you are interested, a lesbian romani radfem made a redesign of the labrys flag without the black triangle. Her tumblr username is @zorafem and @/radzora on twitter. Here it is:
Tumblr media
And here are some sources for all that I said above to prove to you that I’m not making all my arguments up (unfortunately I’m not from an english-speaking country so my sources typically aren’t in english, but here are a few that are):
KIELAR, Wieslaw, Anus mundi
WACHSMANN, Klaus, KL: A History of the Nazi Concentration Camps
WEISS, Anton, The Genocide of the Roma, chapters 7 and 8
And because books are not really ideal for a quick fact check, here are some articles:

Unfortunately some of them are in German and you have to be logged in to access. As you can guess, there aren’t THAT many academic papers related to Romani history or to lesbians during the IIIrd Reich:

hiii!! 3 things..
1) for your mask expression art where goro's mask is confused, you said you took inspiration from atsv? what is that, if i can ask?
2) in persona 4 arena , theres a shadow suppression unit named labrys and she essentially only wears yasogami's highschool uniform so if you look at labrys and aigis, the idea of shadow suppression unit goro works very well because his school uniform is nice enough that he can hide his princely (& maybe later darker?) outfit and appear more human when theyre in public (excluding ears of course.. those can be passed off as headphones however).. i just thought thatd be something you would find interesting
3) in norse mythology there's the myth of loki killing baldr, so skadi traps him below the earth with chains made of what's holding his 1st child fenrir down as well, and poison from a creature (i cant remember the exact creature unfortunately) but he stays there until the ragnarok (the end of the world) and his wife, sigyn, who puts up with all his mischief and the fact that 4/6 (or 4/5, depending on what iteration you look at) of loki's kids are not sigyn's at all (hel, the horse he gave birth to, fenrir, and jormungandr are the ones not sigyn's.. nardi and vali slash just nardi is sigyn's) . but anyway sigyn holds a bowl and catches the poison so loki doesnt suffer, and every once in awhile the bowl fills with poison so she has to go outside to dump it out, and loki withers in pain because while she is gone the poison drips down his head and it causes earthquakes.. but anyway. this all reminds me of engine room (being trapped & in pain, etc) and its also.. loki. so sigyn as akira and loki as akechi art would be super duper cool.. i encourage you to look into both loki and robinhood's myths because robinhood era-myths also include the mention of mordred, the incestous son of king arthur who kills his way to the top yet his revenge fails (reason unspecified, it can be assumed he was killed himself or robinhood took his revenge for him) and his outfit is suspiciously similar to that of the black mask's, from the horns to the black getup.. mordred is akechi, akira is robinhood, and robinhood's merry band of thieves are the PTs.
ty for listening to my rambling :D no one really mentions mordred and i think him and akechi's symbolism is so important.. also! What You've Already Buried by malevolentmango on ao3 touches on a lot of loki's myths and such if youd like to learn about it that way :D
sorry the face i made seeing how long this ask is AHSJGF took me a min to answer
1)ATSV is Across the the spiderverse ! that movie inspired quite a few things about my art style, that also just happen to work really well with p5s visual motifs since the comic book inspiration and heavy use of colour blocks and halftones, as well as they make the spiderman masks eyes emote, since they have them on for a big portion of the film, and its the cutest thing ever
Tumblr media
2) Ive seen Labrys' design! she always reminds me of miku if im completely honest BWAHA but yesss he could possibly hide it very well, also the fact that he always wears gloves could hide his fingers too :D
3) havent touched too much into norse myth besides the surface level knowledge of it that i obtained thru osmosis, mostly from friends who were into it. also i loveeeee binge reading wikis and link hopping (did it with gnosticism -> ended up inspired and made the ophiomorphos piece hehe) but its such a spontanious thing for me, i shall keep it in mind tho :D i did wanna at some point read up on hereward more specifically, since out of his 3 personas him is the one i have not a single clue about but i....forgot...i really dont give a lot of love to hereward sobs
