Nope! I think most writing loses its essence in translation.

Yes! It was so much fun!!!

14. What's your all time favourite ship?

Probably Daniel/Sha're, or Daniel/Vala (Stargate) but also partial to Steve/Nat (MCU), and Matt/Elektra (Daredevil). But X reader fics are the most fun you can have 💘

15. What's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I have a dirty Daredevil X reader languishing in my wips. Might get around to it when I watch the new season.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Character voices and attentions to detail. People usually comment on those things. I'm also good at bringing the Drama™️. There may be some screaming, crying and throwing up 😂

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Keeping it short and sweet, my slow burns really are slow burns. I have to pay specific attention to pacing and linking scenes well. I do way too much Research™️ .

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I would if I had a native language speaker to proof read it for me.

As a reader I find it annoying if I have to keep moving back to the chapter notes to check translations. It interrupts the flow.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

The X-files but I was a kid, does that count? Supernatural is probably more relevant.

20. Favourite fic you've ever written?

Honestly, I love my two novels, I'm pretty attached to them 🥰 they've been such a journey, personally and in terms of developing my writing skills.

Were you named after anyone?

First name: From a Mechwarrior book. My dad loves to read and he liked the name. Mom also liked the name, and I was born in December, and my first name means Born on Christmas.

Middle name: My aunt's middle name, and again, in theme with being born in December, my middle name is Joy.

When was the last time you cried?

Teared up? Maybe last week... Really truly cried? I honestly have no idea. Oh no, I'm repressed! Lol

Do you have kids?

No. But I have 2 nieces and 5 nephews who I love and adore. So, that's enough for me right now.

Do you use sarcasm?

Why would I do something like that?

What’s the first thing you notice about people?

Their smile. You can tell a lot about a person from the way they smile.

What’s your eye color?

Blue. But the kind of blue that shifts a little depending on what you're wearing. So sometimes they look green.

Scary movies or happy endings?

Both. I like scary/suspenseful movies but I also really like happy endings. They don't have to be perfect endings, with everything tied up with a bow, but a generally positive resolution is nice.

Any special talents?

I guess that depends on who you ask...

I sing. I like to write, but that's entirely subjective, so I'm not sure I can call that a talent...

Oh! I'm pretty good at mimicking accents, plus I just love linguistics so it's extra fun for me.

And I'm really good at lazy makeup. 😅

Favorite subject at school?

I loved learning... so I didn't really have a subject I didn't enjoy. My favorites were English (specifically literature studies) and History, though I also really enjoyed science.

Dream job?

I always wanted to be an Archeologist...with a focus in linguistics. Like studying historical dialects of languages and translating them. (This may be because I wanted to be Dr. Daniel Jackson, from Stargate SG-1... but 😅)

Here is a bit about me 😅 :

I’m 5 feet 3 inches and blonde with long hair. I have glasses very similar to the style that Daniel Jackson wears on Stargate: SG-1. I’m grey ace and look feminine, but I am somewhere under the non-binary umbrella.

For my personality traits, uh, well, I have two anxiety disorders, lol. Specifically social anxiety and generalized anxiety. I definitely try to be social when I can, /but/ it can be difficult. I’m definitely a hopeless romantic, often to a fault. I could best be described as … indoorsy. I like reading, writing, occasionally drawing, and watching movies. In particular I’m a pretty huge horror movie fan. I also very much enjoy movies from the 30s-50s, particularly film noir.

I also enjoy houseplants and love reptiles. I actually own two lizards. :D

I got an English lit degree and my job involves copy editing and writing, so analyzing writing and such is a big part of my personal and professional life.

he's also more focused on a relationship that brings something to the table, something he can work with. the same kind of partnership (although on slightly better terms hopefully) as he has with two face

i'm not making light in the slightest but hey, it's the perfect number of anxiety disorders to have. and he'd be more than happy to do the talking for you in social situations, both of them would be

he'd also understand the need to will yourself to be social, it's easy for him to shut himself away, with the only person he can speak to being himself, so it would be good for you both to encourage each other

hopeless romantic? now we're talking. because i think harvey is one of the softest, most romantic boys out there. really traditionally woos people, charms them and romances them like he was in some terribly dramatic old movie

creativity, especially indoorsy creativity, would suit him. someone who is grounded in themselves and can work away quietly would be a nice calming presence. he's a house person really, you don't see him striving to get out and about unless he has crimes to commit, so having someone else kicking around the place with him would be nice

gosh you've got intelligence in scores, and that's so key. i think harvey's intelligence is often overlooked, his temper and attitude sometimes overshadow it. but the man was a DA, he passed the bar. so someone on an intellectual equal with him, especially in something as interesting for him as copy editing, would make the perfect partner

I'm going to do a refresh on my Stargate Astrology Ask Game, I'm in the process of creating a more complete star chart for each of the characters. As such the range of Questions are somewhat more expanded. My charts will have the signs associated with the following bodies: Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. If you want you can ask for a more general reading of a character's chart, a specific planet (which includes the Sun and Moon) reading, or a relationship analysis. For specific Planets I won't do Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto due to their positions as Generational planets that have little to do with an individual's chart (except in houses which I cannot determine without birthdays to the minute). And for relational analysis I'd also like an Idea of what sort of Relationship you are asking about (such as romantic, familial, friendly, rivals, etc). I will eventually include other systems, but for now It's just the Tropical Zodiac (I will update this post when I am familiar enough with other systems to interpret them in a somewhat decent manner).

I got this idea to begin with from seeing this post by @hearteyesmcgarrett

For characters without known dates I will use the dates of their actor's birth, and for characters with ranges I will determine which potential option I feel is most accurate. Below is a list of characters who I have charts for, and I will keep it updated as I complete people's charts.

Fandom: Stargate SG-1

Context: Bern is an OC who is a shield tech expert in the Stargate world. (Prequel to Whumptober Day 11)

Summary: Bern, Jacob, and SG-1 are captured by a system lord and Bern is tortured for information about the off-world base.

It had started out as a relatively normal mission. Bern accompanied SG-1 and Jacob Carter to a planet called Norsfaduus. While they were at around the same level as Earth in all other regards, they possessed far more advanced shield technology. This was due to them crossing paths with an asteroid cluster on their way around their star, thus requiring the development of shield technology to avoid impact events. The result of their unique situation meant that the majority of resources were put into one line of inquiry, thus resulting in shield tech which would be beneficial in defending both the tauri and the tok’ra from the Goa’uld.

General Hammond agreed to send Bern along with SG-1 and Jacob because of their role as an engineer on the cutting edge of the defensive energy technology field. Bern had gotten to know SG-1 and Jacob in the briefing, and the fact that they generally followed orders and had a sense of humour seemed to put the others at ease.

Of course, with SG-1, nothing was ever as simple as expected. It turned out that the people of Norsfaduus were in league with the Goa’uld, and before they knew it the six of them were restrained and handed over to the servants of some unnamed system lord. They really all blended together by this point.

In any case, this was how they ended up in a large room which must have been a holding cell on a Goa’uld mothership. The Jaffa had taken Jacob away with hushed whispers of “tok’ra”. Bern and the four members of SG-1 sat in a row about 5 feet apart from each other. Each of them had manacles with chains running between their hands and feet. The chains were locked to metal rings on the floor.

Bern twisted the cold metal on their arm as they looked around the room curiously. “So, what now?”

Jack sighed. “Now we wait for some angry Jaffa to come in and poke us with sticks, throw rocks at us, you know, the works. And maybe if we’re lucky we’ll get an evil monologue from whichever big shot Goa’uld it is I’ve already forgot the name of this time.”

Bern’s eyebrows raised. “Sounds like a good time all around, then.”

“It is indeed likely that we will be interrogated.” Teal’c intoned.

At that moment the cell door opened and three Jaffa entered, closing the door behind them. Two took up positions on either side of the door. The third stepped into the middle of the room and addressed each of the captives in turn. “Colonel O’Neill, Major Carter, Daniel Jackson, the shol’va Teal’c, and this one I do not recognize.”

“Yeah, they’re new.” Jack piped up.

“Bern” they informed the Jaffa, clearly a first prime from his raised forehead marking.

He merely scoffed, returning his attention to the colonel. “You will tell us what we need to know, or you will suffer greatly.”

Jack put his arms out, rattling his chains. “All right, let’s go have a little chat.”

The first prime’s lips twitched up into a smirk. “Not you specifically, colonel. Jaffa!” He gestured towards Bern with his head.

Butterflies stirred up in Bern’s stomach, fear tingling it’s way through their body. The Jaffa to the left of the door strode towards them. They flinched away as he got within striking distance, but he only knelt down to unhook their chains from the ring on the floor.

The colonel shifted anxiously. “They’re just an engineer, they really won’t be able to tell you anything. Take me instead, I’ll make it worth your while.” He spoke in a tone that he hoped made his proposal sound enticing.

The lower Jaffa yanked on Bern’s chains, throwing them hard onto their elbows on the cold cement. Bern scrambled to move as he pulled them to the centre of the room. Here he reattached their handcuff chains to a metal ring on the top of a square post which stood around their chest height. Luckily the chain was long enough to nearly reach the ground, so they wouldn’t be stuck standing the entire time.

All of SG-1 bristled nervously. The first prime addressed O’Neill. “You will tell us the location of your off-world base, or their suffering will be on your head.”

Bern swallowed roughly, locking eyes with the colonel. They surreptitiously shook their head, indicating that he couldn’t give up the location of the alpha site. While O’Neill’s expression remained stony, Bern was certain he understood them perfectly.

Jack shifted his eyes to the first prime behind Bern. “We’re not gonna tell you squat.”

“So be it,” the leader said smugly. “Jaffa.”

Bern strained their neck backwards to see what was happening. The Jaffa on the right of the door stepped forward. Out of the corner of their eye Been saw in his hands a rope with what looked like a heavy ball of rope at the end. The Jaffa took up position directly behind them, the rope swinging menacingly as he moved.

Carter’s eyes grew wide as she anticipated what was about to happen. “No.”

“The location of your off-world site,” the first prime demanded.

Silence hung heavily in the cell, and the tension was palpable. The sound of whooshing air was Bern’s only warning before pain erupted across their back. They cried out in surprise, falling forward into the post. Their face made contact with the corner of the post before they could catch themself. Well, they thought, that’s going to leave a mark.

As they pulled themself back into a standing position Bern saw Sam cringing sympathetically. Jack shifted his jaw angrily and Daniel stared at his feet.

Bern shifted their shoulders experimentally, but quickly stilled as the movement shot bolts of white hot agony through their back. They groaned through gritted teeth.

“I will ask you again. Give me the location of the off-world base of the tauri.”

“How about we don’t and say that we did,” Bern suggested with a humorous smirk. Jack and Sam both let small smiles pass their lips. All were short-lived, however, as the Jaffa brought the rope down once more.

This time Bern was prepared for the pain, and they bit their lip to keep from crying out.

This went on for some time, the first prime asking the same question, silence or snippy remarks in response from the humans and friendly Jaffa present, the increasingly unbearable pain throbbing across Bern’s back and shoulders. By the time the Jaffa decided to call it quits, they were slumped down against the base of the post. Their eyes had been closed for the last 25 lashes or so, as they attempted to overcome the pain. Given that their eye had already swollen mostly shut, it must have been at least an hour.

Finally, the Jaffa left the cell. As Bern heard the heavy door clang shut, they let out a groan and slid down onto their side, the manacles digging painfully into their wrists which hung just a few inches above the floor.

“Bern,” Sam called out worriedly. Bern registered her voice, but they really didn’t feel like answering. Relief had flooded through them the moment they realized they were being given a break.

“Hey, Bern,” Jack barked forcefully. He whistled and snapped his fingers to get their attention.

Heaving a sigh, they forced themself to open their eyes. Jack’s face came into focus slowly, swimmingly. He flashed them an awkward smile. “How you feeling?”

Bern closed their eyes again. “Peachy,” they replied shortly.

SG-1 relaxed minutely. At least they still had their attitude.

“They must know we’ll never give up the alpha site,” Sam mused.

“They’re probably just stalling until they decide what to do with us,” Daniel suggested.

“Should an opportunity arise for escape, I believe it would be wise to take advantage of it,” Teal’c intoned.

O’Neill nodded. “We’ll have to find Jacob too.”

Sam failed to conceal her concern for her father. “Bern,” she called, trying to change the topic.

They opened their eyes.

“Just hang in there, okay?”

Bern nodded resignedly before closing their eyes and drifting off into a fitful sleep despite the ripples of pain rolling across their back.

Well, that’s a wrap on Season 5. You know, I don’t think I’ve ever binged SG-1 before; SGA a few times actually. I don’t know quite why, but with SG-1 I tend to go back and watch specific episodes and usually from the first four seasons.

I’m not gonna do a season overview but I wanted to jot down some thoughts.

I can see now why Michael Shanks thought Daniel Jackson was being under utilized. Seeing them all in a row in a around two days showed me just how little screen time he had throughout the season. Even more so with Teal’c. He had very little dialogue, even in the episodes that were supposed be focused on him.

Was Sean Patrick Flannery stoned the entire time? I don’t remember him being so... zen.

Pissed off Jack in “Red Sky” is a thing of beauty. The confrontation with Malchus will never lose its power. It’s even more noticeable because RDA does a lot of schtick this season and so much of it seems out of place. I didn’t notice it week to week, but seeing it in one big lump it’s hard to miss. Throughout the season there is a lot of little great Jack moments (the bickering with Daniel at Teal’c’s bedside will always be an all-time favorite) but I was kinda surprised at how many awkward bits there were overall. Maybe it’s just me getting old.

Still not a huge fan of “Wormhole X-Treme!” It still feels to me completely self-indulgent; like the writers/producers were just patting themselves on the back for a hilarious 100th episode. Also, two DeLuise are two too many for me. Just not a fan of the DeLuise acting clan.

As awful as Rodney is in “48 Hours” he does make a few good points that Sam’s experiments with Gate protocols are dangerous. We just saw that in “Red Sky” earlier that season.

Uh, fandom does Daniel as a slave way better than canon does.

Goddamn but Ba’al is a sexy motherfucker.

Being sick and crying pretty much all throughout “Meridian” is not a good combination. Another box and a half of tissues bites the dust.

Stargate SG-1 (Season 6 and What Came Before)

Okay, so Stargate SG-1 has been one of those shows that has floated in and out of my streaming cue for years now. I’ve never been able to get all the way through it– because there are ten seasons of the show, but last year (or possibly two years ago, COVID has ruined my sense of time) I decided that I was going to make a push to get all the way through it and this time, amazingly enough, I have, so far, gotten all the way to the end of Season 6.

This year (possibly) might be the year I get it done.

I've been trying to think about it: has there ever been a television show that has seamlessly picked up from the events of the movie that spawned as Stargate SG-1? For real, the pilot episode, Children of the Gods is brilliant television. When the Stargate (shuttered after the events of the movie) comes back to life and soldiers are kidnapped, they reactivate the team-- including O'Neal (Richard Dean Anderson) and Major Samantha Carter (Amanda Tapping) to go to Abydos and track down Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks) to find out what the heck is going on.

Turns out, there's more than one Stargate- there's a whole network of them. And Ra? He was but one of many bad guys known as the Gouald, who are a worm-like race that require hosts for the symbiotes. They soon figure out where the soldiers are, go and get them back and pick up another new friend- a renegade Jaffa, Tealc (Christopher Judge) along the way and then, just like that, SG-1 is off and running.

This is from an era of television that I don't think is ever coming back again, so you have 22 episodes a season. That means, the team goes to an awful lot of planets that bear a passing resemblance to the area in and around Vancouver, British Columbia and they are inevitably confronted with some problem/monster of the week that they then solve and move onto the next mission. But SG-1, once it gets rolling starts mixing things up a bit.

In Season 2, we meet the Tok'ra. I love the Tok'ra. I love the way they are introduced. I love the idea of a secret, legendary band of renegade Gouald who are opposed to the System Lords and rely on voluntary hosts to keep their numbers up. We also meet the Asgard (who resemble the traditional 'Greys' that pop culture loves so much.) We start to see forces that oppose the Stargate program on Earth crop up--- ranging from Senator Kinsey to the NID to the Russians (a very late 90s aspect of this show.)

As you go further into the show, you see Earth start to adopt the technology they find to build hyperspace capable ships and get out into the galaxy a bit more.

Before we get into Season 6 specifically though: there has been talk of rebooting Stargate. Call it a reboot, revival, whatever they do with it-- there is one place that Stargate has not gone and it's the only thing that I can think of that will open up myriad new story possibilities for the franchise: disclosure.

They've tip-toed around it now again-- Eli in Stargate: Universe solves a video game puzzle they embedded into a video game and gets beamed up to a space ship and agrees to join the program. (Though it doesn't exactly work out well for him in the end.) But disclosure is the way to go. Seeing how society reacts. Seeing how civilians react. It's hard to believe, given how big the program is getting, that someone hasn't noticed by now, but maybe it's an open secret that hasn't been revealed to the public at large yet-- I don't know. But I think everything should flow from that as a starting point if you're going to reboot the series. Bonus Points if you manage to pull another Children of the Gods out of your hat and make the transition from the old show to the new one as seamless as they did between the movie and television.

ALL OF THAT BEING SAID, let's jam about Season 6:

So, by the time Season 6 rolls around, Daniel is gone. He's ascended to the next plane of existence and newcomer Jonas (Corin Nemec) has taken his place. The threat of Anubis is still growing- but has yet to reach it's peak. Stargate Atlantis hasn't started yet- but there are hints that it's coming-- we go back to the Antarctic sight in 'Frozen' and Daniel finds direct references to the City of the Ancients in 'Full Circle' at the end of the season, so they're definitely laying the groundwork for it.

There are some hints that Daniel isn't all the way gone either- he appears to Jack in 'Abyss' and provides comfort, though he is forbidden from doing anything. Tealc also sees him in 'The Changeling' where he's skipping through various realities and Daniel shows up. 'Full Circle' seems to be the first indication that Daniel is coming back in some form-- as he cuts a deal to try and save Abydos, which is sort of successful in that the inhabitants-- including Skaraa (Alexis Cruz), all ascend, but other than that, everything is destroyed and the season ends with Anubis getting his hands on an extremely powerful weapon setting up a big Season 7. (At least that's what I'm guessing.)

In terms of Earthbound shenanigans, we see some classified information management when a report finds out about the Stargate Program in 'Prometheus', Senator Kinsey gets shot and it seems like O'Neill is responsible in 'Smoke & Mirrors' and the Americans and Russians have to brief the rest of the world (China, France, Britain, etc.) in 'Disclosure.'

I am excited to keep moving with this show and to maybe, just maybe, get all the way through it at least once. I was a bit curious as to why Michael Shanks left for a season and could only find this as explanation, but I'm glad he's back and I hope Jonas gets to bow out with some dignity, since they had me worried in 'Prophecy' that they were going to straight up kill him off.

My Grade: I'm going to call this one a solid *** out of ****. I'm ready for Season 7 and for a show that has a few seasons under it's belt, Stargate SG-1 is ticking all the boxes with this season. 6 official down, 4 more to go!
