Their Hero Academia

So I haven't talked about it here in a while, but Their Hero Academia is my next-gen My Hero Academia fan fiction, that I've been writing for close to five years now, with help and co-writing from @cryoverkiltmilk and another online friend.

Recently, I got turned on to Hero Forge as a way to get a good visual on what the characters look like and let me tell you... the results are fantastic.

So without further ado...

Toshinori “Toshi” Midoriya

Parents: Izuku Midoriya and Ochaco Uraraka

Hero Name: Cosmos

Quirk – Personal Gravity: Able to increase his personal gravity for added durability and punching power or decrease it for super-powered leaps and floating.

Muscular with bushy green hair and round cheeks, Toshi has a big legacy to live up to, but doesn’t let that stand in his way. Toshi makes friends easily and isn’t afraid to stand up for what’s right. Bright and cheerful, he’s torn between being the responsible Team Dad and letting his friends find their own way. As the son of the Number One Hero, he’s a bit myopic when it comes to others' relationships to Heroes and the Hero system, but is trying to be better.

Katsumi Kirishima-Bakugo

Parents: Katsuki Bakugo (biological father) and Eijiro Kirishima

Hero Name: Bombshell

Quirk – Explodi-Touch: Imbues objects with explosive power

Muscular, short, with spikey blonde hair, Katsumi is a simmering cauldron of rage just waiting to explode. A firm believer in being (Wo)manly, Katsumi’s always looking for a challenge. She’ll throw a punch as soon as look at you. But she’ll always come through for her friends… especially Izumi. Never gives less than a 100 percent. She’s full of self-confidence, but has a habit of coming up against problems she can’t punch her way out of… not that that will stop her from trying.

Izumi Todoroki (Katsumi and Shinji Yoarashi are the only ones who call her Izzy)

Parents: Shoto Todoroki and Momo Yaoyorozu

Hero Name: Thermo-Dynamic

Quirk – Freezer Burn: Absorbs heat to create ice and can release the heat as flames

Pale and willowy, with long white hair that ombres to red, Izumi is the definition of silk hiding steel. Calm, reserved, and more than a little sheltered, this former ill girl struggles to prove she is strong enough to stand beside her friends. She considers Katsumi to be her dearest friend in all the world, and she is possibly the only person Katsumi will consistently listen to. Do not make her angry or treat her like she’s fragile, you won’t like what you find. Asexual, she finds her classmates romantic adventures confusing.

Isamu Haimawari

Parents: Koichi Haimawari/the Crawler and Kazuho Haneyama/Pop*Step from Vigilantes

Hero Name: Slyde

Quirk – Slide and Glide: Generates repulsion field that can be used for travel and offense

Tall and gangly, with spiky black hair that’s pink at the temples, Isamu is a nervous but well-meaning young man who’s more than a bit starstruck and overwhelmed being in a class with the children of some of the world’s greatest Heroes, but is determined to be the Hero his parents were denied the chance to be. More than a few people have their eye on him – he’s got the potential to be an incredible Hero in his own right! Though awed by his heroic friends and their parents, he also knows how people can fall between the cracks and wants to be a hero for them too.

Mika Mineta

Parents: Minoru Mineta and Pony Tsunotori

Hero Name: Purple Rein

Quirk – Pop Horn: Fires rapidly expanding sticky purple balls from her horns.

Busty, tall, with long purple hair, horns, and hooves, Mika will flirt with virtually anything that moves and is nearly as sex-obsessed as her father was. However, she does have her boundaries and is fiercely loyal to and supportive of her friends, being more than willing to adjust the hoof-to-ass ratio on their behalf. Mika has a unique knack for being able to get under anyone’s skin, she is the master of weaponize provocation. Though she’s actually quite intelligent, she finds life easier the lower she keeps everyone’s expectations.

Chihiro Kaminari

Parents: Denki Kaminari and Kyoka Jiro

Hero Name: Shock Jock

Quirk – Extension Cords: Channels and absorbs electricity from extendable “cords” from her earlobes.

Slim and blonde with a black electrical stripe, Chihiro struggles with self-confidence, as she struggles academically and with her Quirk sometimes blowing her brains out, on top of negatively comparing herself physically to her best friend Mika. A bit high strung and a good bit sarcastic, Chihiro is trying to figure out how to make being a Hero work for her. Musically talented, she’s recently been made to face the music, regarding the idea that she’s romantically desirable.

Takuma Sero

Parents: Hanta Sero and Mina Ashido

Hero Name: Stick ‘Em Up

Quirk – Acid Tape: Fires tape of varying acidity levels from the backs of his hands.

Pink-skinned with dark hair and eyes, Takuma is fame-obsessed. He already runs his own ViewTube channel with his two best friends, Kenta Sato and Kimiko Ojiro. Out and proud, Takuma is happy to take on the role of gay fashion disaster. Maybe he could use some self-discipline, but that’s tomorrow’s problem.

Kenta Sato

Parents: Rikido Sato and Chizu Ito (OC, deceased)

Hero Name: Chomp

Quirk – Appetite: Able to bite through and eat anything, processing any nutritional value at high speed

Wiry and dark-haired with thick lips, Kenta is 90% of Takuma and Kimiko’s impulse control. The most level-headed of the three by a considerable margin, he’s still supportive of his friends and isn’t completely immune to the allure of fame himself, as he’s also a content generator. Kenta thinks his Quirk is unimpressive compared to his friends’ Quirks and the shadow of his mother’s death hangs over him, but he’s willing to give it his all.

Kimiko Ojiro

Parents: Mashirao Ojiro and Toru Hagakure

Hero Name: X-Ray

Quirk – Transparency: Bends light so that she is constantly invisible, and able to extend that invisibility to anything she touches.

Slightly short and very athletic, this invisible girl is one stand-out lady! Obsessed with gossip, Kimiko ships people like nobody’s business. She’s also a strong martial artist with a hair-trigger temper. Set her off and you’ll be pounded by her fists of fury while she screams at you. Kimiko has also started training to be a paramedic under Eri, learning to use her Quirk in ways that help people beyond stealth.

Asuka Tokoyami

Parents: Fumikage Tokoyami and Tsuyu Asui

Hero Name: Amaterasu

Quirk – Frog-Shadow: Symbiotically linked to a powerful frog-shaped creature made of light

Possessed of a green bird-head, Asuka is the “mom friend” of Class 1-A, frequently reining in the nonsense of the others. Calm and level headed most of the time, she also frequently finds herself arguing with her other-half. Frog-Shadow is a good bit like a toddler, self-centered and impulsive. Despite being frequently exasperated by Frog-Shadow, Asuka loves her like a sister and they make a formidable team.

Shota Shinso

Parents; Hitoshi Shinso and Camie Utsushimi

Hero Name: Loud Kid

Quirk – Vocal Harmonics: Able to create a variety of effects through sonic screams, including sonic blasts, force fields, and sonar

The shortest of 1-A at under five feet tall with purple hair, Shota is also the youngest by several months, but you’d be forgiven for thinking it’s by years. Highly excitable and prone to talking non-stop at increasingly rapid speeds, he’s a major Hero fanboy. Perpetually cheerful, Shota makes friends easily. Lately, he’s had to grow-up a bit after trauma in the field and is trying to shake his image as the baby of the class.

Daisuke Shoji

Parents: Mezo Shoji and Haruko Nakamura (OC)

Hero Name: Octo-Punch

Quirk – Extendo-Arms: Has four additional arms growing from his back that can extend up to great lengths

The tallest boy in the class and built like a brick wall, with silver hair and handsome features, Daisuke is a minimalist like his father. He’s quiet and tends to keep his head down, avoiding everyone else’s drama and nonsense. Daisuke frequently exists in a state of low-level frustration at everyone else’s antics, but is a dependable friend in a crisis.

Akaya Koda

Parents: Koji Koda and Ibara Shiozaki

Hero Name: Nurture

Quirk – Photosynthekinesis: Able to control plants and speed up their growth

A tall, broad, rocky-skinned girl with moss-like hair, Akaya is a quiet and unassuming religious girl with a kind word for everyone. Somehow, she’s found herself friends with some of the stronger and more volatile personalities like Mika Mineta and Takiyo Aoyama. Her own self-confidence has taken a bit of a blow lately, due to anti-Mutant discrimination, and she is struggling to find her proper place among her friends and as a Hero. Following an emotional roller coaster, she’s finding her way back.

Sora Iida

Parents: Tenya Iida and Mei Hatsume

Hero Name: Jet Red

Quirk – Jetpack: High speed flight provided by exhaust-pipe structures coming from her back

Tall, busty, with shorter blue-black hair, Sora is full of manic energy and ideas. Constantly drawing blueprints or working on something, she, along with her twin brother Tensei, are dual-enrolled in Heroics and Support courses, and even designed the support gear in their costumes. Sora has a bit more of a wild streak than her brother and loves to lord her being older by a few minutes over him. Currently dating Toshi, she’s trying to figure out how to girlfriend.

Tensei Iida

Parents: Tenya Iida and Mei Hatsume

Hero Name: Jet Blue

Quirk – Jetpack: High speed flight provided by exhaust-pipe structures coming from her back

Muscular, with pink tubular hair tied back in a ponytail and the same Jetpack engines as his sister, Tensei has bursts of manic energy of his own, but is overall the calmer and slightly more rule-abiding twin… though he’s more than willing to exploit any logical loophole he may come across. Dual enrolled like his sister, he’s more than happy to spend his time tinkering when not spending time with his boyfriend Takuma, though he frequently finds himself confused by the fame-seeking pink skinned boy.

Takiyo Aoyama

Parents: Yuga Aoyama and Haru Shima (OC)

Quirk – Sparkle: Constantly absorbing light, able to release it as illumination or lasers

A pretty blond boy usually constantly glowing blue-white because of his Quirk, Takiyo’s Quirk took the life of his mother and badly injured his father when it first activated, leading to him being adopted by Yuga and his doctor husband Haru. Culturally, though not actually, French, Takiyo is haughty, attention-seeking, short tempered, and more than a little bit arrogant, but harbors deep guilt over what he did as a child. A bit distant from most of the others, he’s slowly trying to become a better friend.

Koharu Kocho

Parents: OCs

Quirk – Moth: Flight via wings, able to release Paralysis, Poison, and Sleep Powders from her ‘scales’, able to spit a sticky ‘String Shot’ from her mouth, and additional senses from her antennae.

Winged, with antennae, dark eyes, and turquoise and purple hair, Koharu is the newest addition to Class 1-A. Though she was knocked unconscious by accident and failed the entrance exam, she had General Education as a back-up plan. She made a spectacular showing at the Sports Festival, coming in tied for third. She’s less starstruck than Haimawari, but does still find herself wondering if she’s going to come up short compared to all these second-generation Hero Course students. Kind and thoughtful, Koharu is working hard to make sure she doesn’t forget her friends in her former class. With the abilities granted to her by her Quirk, she’s trying to prioritize non-violent takedowns, but is slowly learning sometimes you just have to hit someone.

Shiro Monoma

Hero Name: Phantom Trace

Parents: Neito Monoma and Tsukushi (OC)

Quirk – Imitation: able to replicate any physical action that he sees.

A wiry blond boy with an arrogant smirk, Shiro is determined to prove his Class 1-B is the best class at U.A. Unlike his father, he does have good relations with several of them, including Mika (an ex-girlfriend) and Akaya. Beneath his harsh exterior, though, is a boy with tremendous confidence issues about his personal worth and the worth of his Quirk. He’s slowly building that back up. Ironically, he’s much better at getting others to see their own worth than he is at seeing his own, as he’s helped his own class to refine their Quirks and work as a team. Recently, he’s started dating Chihiro.

Class 1-B

Hero Name: Iron Fist

Parents: Itsuka Kendo and Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu

Quirk – Iron Fist: able to turn her arms into metal

A shark-toothed, muscular, red haired girl, Kana is the level-headed Class Rep of Class 1-B. She spends most of her time keeping the unusual and exasperating personalities of her class under control and isn’t above giving Shiro Monoma a bonk on the head when he gets a little too worked up. She’s not without her own competitive spirit, but gets on well with the other heroics classes. Currently dating Isamu Haimawari.

Anime Fukidashi

Class 1-B

Hero Name: Toonami

Parents: Manga Fukidashi and Bibimi Kenranzaki

Quirk - Animation: A living cartoon with the ability to tap into several animation tropes and perceptions

A cheerful blonde girl, who looks literally like she stepped out of an 80’s anime. With a love of anime and manga, she compares everything to those. She also claims to be able to hear the background music (“Don’t worry, You Say Run is playing, we’re gonna win!”) and refers to some people as main characters. All of which would be weird enough on their own if she didn’t usually turn out to be right about these things. A romantic and a trouble-maker, she’s good friends with Mika.

Hero Name: Slimer

Parents: Kojiro Bondo and unnamed mother

Quirk - Slime: Possesses slime body that can stretch and shift into multiple forms

A blue slime girl, Rika is a sarcastic troublemaker who usually makes Monoma one of her targets. Her frequent partner in crime is Kitiara Kaniyashiki.

Kitiara Kaniyashiki

Class 1-B

Hero Name: Cup-Up

Parents: Unnamed OCs

Quirk – Scissors: can slice through anything she can get two limbs around

A red-haired energetic girl with crab-shaped pigtails, Kaniyashiki is just as much a troublemaker as her friend Bondo and likes to pick on Monoma just as much. The niece of police Officer Monika Kaniyashiki, she does bring a slight sense of seriousness when the situation calls for it.

Momoko Mogura

Class 1-F (General Studies)

A short girl with glasses who ressembles a humanoid mole, Mogura is one of Koharu’s best friends. Shy and prone to worrying, she nevertheless supports her friend in her new endeavors. Harbors a bit of a crush on Shota Shinso.

Yu Tokuda

Class 1-F

A cyclopean girl with purple hair, Tokuda is Koharu’s other closest friend. She’s a bit cynical and fears that Koharu will forget about all of them when she becomes a Hero student, but is going to support her all the same.

Emiko Shiryoku

Business Course

A blue-haired girl with dark glasses due to her Night Vision Quirk making her sensitive to bright lights, Emiko is Daisuke Shoji’s girlfriend. Though she’s usually fairly serious, she does have a slight mischievous streak. Though Daisuke was worried about exposing her to the nonsense of the rest of his class, she’s actually gotten on well with Takuma, Kenta, and Kimiko and is helping them market and monetize their web content.

Shiketsu High

Parents: Inasa Yoarashi and Sakura (OC)

Quirk - Whirlwind: Manipulates air like his father

A short haired, well muscled, tall behemoth of a boy, Shinji is a first year Shiketsu student with a lust for life (and everything else). Loud and bold, his average volume level is at a 12 at minimum. Shinji is a good friend of Izumi Todoroki and Shota Shinso and is tolerated by Katsumi Kirishima-Bakugo. He’s also currently dating Mika Mineta and the two are very compatible, with both agreeing not to be tied down to just each other. Though not a U.A. student, his ability to make his presence known is unmatched.

Hero Name: The Shield

Parents: Mirio Togata and Melissa Shield

Quirk – One for All (sort of)

The eldest son of Mirio and Melissa, blond and buff Tamaki was Quirkless… until Izuku took him under his wing. So well in tune with One for All after years of holding it, Izuku was able to pass on a fraction of the near infinite power to young Tamaki. He currently works for Izuku as one of his sidekicks.

Rhythm of Tap

In honor of National Tap Dance Day (May 25th), it is time to start talking about my life before taking off with technology and my career. I will leave the overall story of my dance life for another day, but for today, just focus on tap!

Tap dance has been a big part of my life, start off learning how to do it at 11 years old. I was playing piano from an early age (again a story for another day) and I grew up in a hispanic family where we would always bring our instruments to family reunions and camping to play into the night, so the rhythm and music was always in me. Tap Dance came as another avenue for me to express the music within me. I was never into rap music or beat boxing to express the music in my head, but Tap gave me that path to do that.

A group of my friends and I start taking more advanced tap classes at a early age, getting more technique in, and focusing more on learning the history and heritage of Tap Dance. We learned about Gregory Hines, Sammy Davis Jr, Jimmy Slyde, all of the great tap masters. We would take tap classes from guest artists who had learned some of the famous tap dances from the masters and try and spread their knowledge and style of tap. We would go off to far away workshops to take classes with other students pursuing that knowledge as well.

Tap gave me the ability to truly express myself and my feelings when ever I needed to do so. Whether it was with my friends, improving to new music and styles, or by myself in the studio, it was always something I enjoyed doing. Tap was an easy escape from the world, even if I didn’t have a studio handy. I would make sure I always buy hard sole shoes so I can tap at the store in the isle when no one was looking, tap at school down the hallway to my next class, anywhere where the rhythm called. I remember one time for a fundraiser, actually putting on my tap shoes and tapping around a grocery store to bring shoppers to our booth.

Tap became my main focus as a dancer. Starting at the end of middle school, going into high school, my best friend and I wanted to do more with Tap so we would choreograph our own duets together. Our teachers found out and asked if we wanted to perform them. That is when the passion really started to hit when we could perform like that. Express ourselves in our own styles and have the feedback from the audience to fuel our fire. We did 2 duets together for different shows and to this day, those were 2 of the best dances I remember doing in my tap life.

From that point on, all of my friends and I were begging to get more advanced with tap itself, and helping push each other to get better and learn more advanced steps. We would try new tricks and try adding more sounds into complex steps already, to see how fast our feet could go. Our teachers would have us throw in some of these steps into pieces because they knew we could do them!

My first class I began to teach myself was for younger students. My dance program asked me to teach for some summer internships some basic classes. I give such great respect to teachers because a lot of work has to go in to planning and helping students learn what they need to learn before moving on up in the world. That was my responsibility for these beginners classes, teach them the basic steps of tap, the basic syntax/words of the language that they can expand into more complex sentences after those summers. Having the basic steps in seared into my brain, I thought it would be easy to pass on, but having a room full of 30x 9 year olds, all with tap shoes and banging them on the floor of the studio, I knew it was going to be much harder.

A few summers went by in high school and I was finally asked to take on some of the more advanced classes with peers closer to my age. That was more scary because I knew these students personally, they were only a year or 2 younger than me, but I was able to help push them and start passing off some of the knowledge I had gotten from other workshops I had taken.

Towards the end of high school, I also started dancing with the NM Rhythm Tap Ensemble, something my tap teacher at the time was a part of. She invited me to join in on some of their tap pieces since she had taught them to us already. These dancers would meet on weekends to pass on dances from their mentors and create new pieces for a yearly Tap Jam show. They would make cool new arrangements out of them and perform them for the general audience. I was so glad to be apart of a group like that, a team focused on keeping the rhythm of tap alive and sharing previous knowledge to others.

Once high school ended and I went onto college, I had to stop most of my dancing career, but I did not want to give up Tap. I continued to teach some tap classes and I stayed with that ensemble throughout college, taking classes with them and performing new pieces that we worked on. We would bring in different guest artists to perform with for those shows and they would give us classes to pass on their knowledge. It truly is a remarkable community to be able to do that and have each give their own flavor and style of tap to pass on at the same time.

Once college ended though and work life began, I had to move to a different town for work and I couldn’t dance as often with the Ensemble. I had to make the difficult choice to leave that life behind and focus on my career. As much as I loved Tap Dance, I knew I couldn’t put the effort into it to make a career out of. And without many tappers around me now, I didn’t really have any more strive to continue on. That is one of my regrets in life, letting that part of myself die out. I still have my tap shoes, I still put them on every now and then to take with friends or when I can visit a studio.

The music and rhythm will always be a part of me though, and I still find myself tapping in the stores, singing rhythms with my voice, beating to the music at work, recalling all those memories. To that end:

My take on Prologue-Ch. 2 on AlmxCelica

With the game still fresh on my mind, I decided to write how I take this pairing because I find them interesting to talk about. I cut it until Act 2 because it gets long and might do it for the next acts but we’ll see.

Under the read more because of spoilers for the whole game.

First of all, let’s talk about their first meeting in Ram Village 7 years prior the main game started. Celica, who was around 10 if I got her age right, came to Ram Village after Mycen rescued her from Slyde and Desaix’s attempt to kill her and Conrad. She was trapped in a house fire with no one else and knowing that her brother, who was the closest person she had, was not seen anywhere. Not to mention she heard in the house fire that Slyde wanted to kill her, she knew she was hunted. So when she arrived in Ram Village, all the fear and sadness took a toll on her and made her close herself. This is where Alm’s attempt helped her tremendously. Alm was patient with her, he didn’t leave her when she snapped at him, and the most important thing, she could feel that all of Alm’s actions were sincere.

You may ask how do I know Alm was sincere. The answer is because Alm did all that because he has a selfish reason. Alm grew up in Ram Village all of his life and was never allowed to go out by Mycen under any circumstances. Now, if I know one thing about children is that they will either do or be curious about what the adults say they can’t do and in Alm’s case, he became extremely curious of the outside world. Then one day Celica came, Mycen wouldn’t tell him where she was from, but he didn’t care. Celica was someone from outside of Ram Village, he probably thought that she had seen, done, experienced things he could only dream of. For Alm, Celica was his window to the outside world and there was no way he would let her to stay silent while she was in Ram.

Their friendship when they were little was important for them as they were exactly what each other needed and something they cherished that when Celica had to move to Novis after Slyde found her, both of them were heartbroken. Not in a romantic way mind you, but it hurt them nonetheless.

Fast forward to the main game timeline, Alm was getting more impatient each day for wanting to leave the village and then Lukas came. It was his chance to answer to the calling he had been feeling when he was grew up and also to see Celica again. He fought his way to the Deliverance HQ to get an offer to lead the group by Clive. Suddenly, he had a lot of responsibilities, more than he thought he could handle, judging from Alm wanting Clive to keep his expectation low, but he didn’t back down. He had seen the outside world and it wasn’t something that he liked, so he wanted to change it for the better and if that means he had to be the leader of the Deliverance then he’d try to do it.

In Novis, Celica had a dream about Alm and King Rudolf having a duel. Knowing it was a sight given by the turnwheel and timed with The King’s death, she knew the sight was something that would likely happen. So to prevent that, she decided to go Mila’s Temple to ask for The Mother’s help (keep in mind that the Zofians were thought to be dependent of Mila’s blessings and help) to prevent that from happening. She wanted to resolve the conflict in peace. It’s a naive thought from her, but it’s all because of Mila’s teaching. Mae’s “let’s go see Mila so she could clean this mess” attitude she showed from time to time is probably the most obvious proof of it. I didn’t think Celica was as naive as that, but she clung to it because that was the only way to achieve peace that she knew of.

That’s why she was shocked when she heard about the Deliverance overtaking Zofia’s Castle and Alm was its leader. At this point Celica had started to see what’s going to happen, Alm leading the Deliverance and drove off the Rigelans to its border and him crossing the border to have a duel with Rudolf, making her dream came true, but she kept it down because she wanted to hear it from Alm himself.

Then the reunion happened. Both of them were happy to see each other and had their happy moment together (the hug scene is super cute btw). Then it’s time for Celica to confront Alm about her worries and they were true. Alm would fight the Rigelians, making him one step closer to Rudolf and brought Valentia in flames of war. Then Alm blamed King Lima IV (which is funny for me because Lima means five in my language) for being a bad ruler. Celica did say that she didn’t think of Lima as her father and she knew that he wasn’t a good ruler, but on the other hand, she also knew that being a blue blood wasn’t easy and that it came with a price, which she almost payed. So she got angry. Her emotion made her accusing Alm for wanting to be the king and then Alm mentioned about the missing princess and that he’d happily give the throne to the princess to fix what’s happening so he could go back to Ram with Celica. Now this didn’t sit well with Celica at all. Hearing that Alm wanted to give her ALL of the responsibility to fix everything while he was the one who made it into a bigger mess was infuriating for her. Like Boey said in the start of Act 3, if Celica announced herself as the missing princess then it means she had to lead the Deliverance and the war itself, something that she wanted to stop at the first place.

I like this exchange because it shows that even though these two were important people, aka the leader of the Deliverance and a princess, they were still teenagers who said the wrong things and had a lot of emotions. Alm didn’t know who Celica truly was and was only trying to be honest to her. Sadly, his honesty wasn’t something that Celica needed at that time. Celica herself was in a difficult position. She couldn’t reveal herself, for reasons I have stated, and also because now she was once again hunted, this time by the Duma Faithful, though she didn’t know about it at this point. Either way, I don’t think she wanted Zofia and everyone in it to be involved by the hunt, so she couldn’t say anything about it and along with what Alm’s said, the premonition, and everything else in between, made her exploded to Alm and even more determined to see Mila.

As for Alm, Fernand was Alm’s big example on how people could change so he knew when Celica stormed out of the castle that she had changed too. So he decided to focus back on the Deliverance and carry out his missions.
