okay, this is rough, cause like I said, I been drinking and not eating dinner.

Holly Roberd's Vegas Immortals is great, a total slow burn... Like the first book has no smut but I still ate it fucking up. Third book is coming out soon ish if I recall.

Katee Robert's A Deal With A Demon series is great and not too long. I've pre-ordered the next two in the series already, and the first one is dragon man smut.

Harley LaRoux's Soul Trilogy is good. Demon smut, a bit dark, not too monstery imo. More plot driven than most and the smut is kinky.

Jillian Grave's Titan: A Gargoyle Daddy Dom Romance is also really good! Especially if you loved Gargoyles the TV show!

Ashley Bennet's Muscles and Monsters is so heckon sweet and features a plus size FMC. I would absolutely recommend it.

Regina Abel's I Married... series is surprisingly good. Don't let the covers fool you. The smut is pretty average, but I feel like the characters have some depth.

Flora Quincy's Property of the Green Bastards is an ORC BIKER ROMANCE. Need I say more?

He could kiss him awake. He really could.

But he goes to stretch his sleep-stiff muscles and is wide awake in an instant. Reminded by a soft whimper and furrowed eyebrows that he fell asleep with his fingers tucked inside his boy’s body, soft and wet and warm. Still sticky and swollen with Eddie’s spend from the night before.

So sure he could kiss him awake.

But he could also let him sleep.

It’s still early. Eddie can tell by the way the room is lit that deep morning-blue just before the sun. They don’t have to work today, either one, so they have plenty of time to rest.

He should let him sleep.

One thing to know about Steve Harrington is that he sleeps like a rock. Eddie thinks he could genuinely sleep through anything.

Grabbing at the inside of one of Steve's thighs, he hitches it up until he’s stretched out and exposed. Sees him shove his arms up under the pillow and settle once more.

It's the sight of his boy’s hole, still red and puffy and open, that finally has Eddie spitting into his own hand and shoving into his boxers.

One hand on his dick, and the other pulling Steve open, he fails to stifle a groan that rattles through his chest. Knows he could come just from this view alone. Knows he has.

But he forces himself to slow down, at least long enough to watch the way he spits down over Steve’s hole and watch the way it slips inside. To hear a quiet hitch of breath and do it once more.

Just as he feels himself getting closer and closer to release, he tugs himself out of his underwear and shifts up on his knees until he can press the head against Steve’s entrance. Pushes down slow and strong until it pops inside. A shiver runs down his spine at the feeling and this time Steve’s hips shift and Eddie freezes.

He freezes and he hears soft whines and whimpers but Steve’s face is still slack and he settles eventually.

Luckily for him, Steve almost waking up does the opposite of deter his impending orgasm.

His next breath in is stuttered as he falls over the edge. Fills his boy up and leaves him messy.

He flops back into his spot and drags Steve back up over his chest. Wraps him up tight in his arms and dips two fingers back up inside him. Keeps him sticky and filled, just the way he likes.

He drops a kiss to his hood covered head and falls back asleep, soft and sated.

The second time Eddie wakes up it's to the strong muscles of Steve’s naked back as he works himself back down on his dick.

Steve turns his head to look back at him and fuck what he said earlier. This might make him black out.

“Morning, babe,” he purrs with a slow grind to his hips that sends Eddie reeling.

He barely suppresses a shocked laugh. “Good motherfucking morning to me!”

Steve does laugh. Eddie can feel it. Can feel the vibrations roll through his body and thinks this is the closest he’s ever getting to heaven.

He works up a rhythm, slow and deep. Lazy in the still early morning.

There’s a pout in his voice when he whines “Can’t believe you didn’t fuck me.”

Eddie tightens his hands and hopes he leaves bruises. Loves hearing his boy bitchy and pouting.

“Wanted to wake up on your cock, Eds,” and now he’s just being dramatic to rile him up.

At that Eddie shoves him down with everything he’s got. Holds him still when he tries to squirm away. Tries to steady his own breathing and not to lose control when he feels him clench tight at the full feeling. Knows he feels it deepest this way.

Pastes on a saccharine smile when he speaks. “‘M sorry sweetheart. Still filled you up though, hm? You feel it?” He asks with a slow grind upward. Feels more than he hears Steve’s breath get punched out of him.

His movements are still slow like syrup when Eddie lets him up. He’s got his hands braced on Eddie’s thighs and he can feel where he traces the ink of his tattoo with a soft touch and hums under his breath.

Slides his own hands up the expanse of his back and marvels at the way the muscles shift under his skin.

He loses himself in the feeling and before he’s really ready to let it go Steve’s whispering “So close, Eds. Make me come.”

And that’s all he really needs and he’s shoving his hips up, up, up in time with Steve’s soft cries. Feels him go tight and rigid and shake apart.

Soothes his hands up and down his sides with a quiet litany of “That’s it baby. Let go for me. I’ve got you.”

Rocks into him once, twice, three more times before he’s spilling into him again and dragging him back and down to wrap him up in his arms once more. Steve fights and squirms until he’s facing him.

Eddie peppers his pretty, red, tear streaked face with kisses and bumps their noses together.

“You wanna shower baby?”

Steve scrunches his nose up and Eddie’s heart might as well not even be in his chest anymore with the way Steve has it in the palm of his hand.

“No,” he breathes into the quiet between them. His hand tracing shapes across Eddie’s face.

“Wanna sleep. ‘M sleepy.” He nuzzles himself up under Eddie’s chin and breathes him in deep.

And maybe Eddie should exercise some control here and make him shower. He has come inside him a total of three times now and he still wants to sleep. But cleaning up can wait.

He likes him messy anyway.

i've been doing a bunch of tartarus runs in reload lately, and it got me thinking about how i miss certain ways FES's clunky gameplay can characterize minato… (ramble about the great clock mechanic + leveling up party members in reload vs fes under the cut)

when i got to yabbashah block in tartarus (block 3), i remember commending the developers for adding the great clock mechanic. it's a much more convenient way to keep party members at the protagonist's level- so when you think about p3 from the perspective of trying to make it easier for people to play, the mechanic succeeds in this respect.

but now that i'm in adamah block, and that i've done lots of my once-a-month tartarus runs… i think that i got a little too dependent on it, and the way that i played through reload feels like a vastly different experience from how i played FES.

in reload, my party's levels are very lopsided. minato, yukari, akihiko, mitsuru, and fuuka are all level 90+, meanwhile junpei and aigis are at level 79, and then… poor ken and koromaru are at 71 and 64 respectively. (i never got to have a great clock for them…)

meanwhile, in FES, my party's levels were much more evenly distributed and were at least level 90. i did all of this manually for every monthly tartarus run because i enjoyed having options available for the taratarus guardians and monthly operations.

with how i perceive minato, i feel that the way i played FES feels more in-line with his character than me dawdling around waiting for the great clocks in reload.

FES's gameplay loop left me with the very strong impression that minato has to work twice as hard as everyone else in SEES does. it makes sense because, yeah, he's the leader, but something about having minato run through tartarus multiple times with different groups of people just to make sure that they are adequately prepared speaks volumes about his character, to me.

and while the tired mechanic is present in reload to some degree, most notably with allowing you to freely raise your courage stat when you visit edogawa after school… the tiredness system doesn't hit the same way that FES does, i think.

the way your party members in FES will call it quits when they return to the entrance floor at tartarus when they're tired, versus minato, in spite of all his tiredness and sickness, still pushes through tartarus because it's his responsibility…. idk!!! i miss that! i feel like this really hammers home the difference between minato and the rest of SEES, how minato doesn't really see himself as a human with needs worth respecting as long as he's useful to someone.

i don't think that tartarus being tedious (in FES especially) is not what most people would describe as fun, and i can respect people thinking it's a slog. but, regardless of how it feels to play, it doesn't change that FES's gameplay loop is a fundamental building block in how i perceive minato…

of course, i do recognize that you can just opt to NOT use the great clock in reload (and it's great when players are offered the choice to not partake in mechanics)! i definitely think that if someone really wanted to, they could manually level up party members, but i do feel that kind of playstyle isn't necessarily "incentivized" to the type of people who are into playing games for Having a Good Time. it's kind of like… "why would you do that when there's a much more convenient option available to you."

in any case! despite my woes, i do want to emphasize that i'm glad that reload has a much more smoother gameplay loop than the original P3 did, because it does make the game more accessible to people. having played both FES and reload, it feels very strongly apparent to me how the core gameplay formula of persona has really been refined in the past 18 years (to think og p3 was 2006 and reload is 2024.. time flies!). and reload has made revisiting a story that i love so dearly much, much easier because the gameplay just bops!

at the same time, due to my "i miss characterization informed by weird and dated FES gameplay quirks" woes, i still think that playing FES is worthwhile. (really, i feel this way about all iterations of p3! i think it's worthwhile to see what each version and side media has to say even if it doesn't Land™ for you.) but i also understand why people wouldn't want to play it, so i will keep writing posts about things i liked from FES's gameplay because i'm still very fond of FES (especially in respects to minato. these mechanics are so telling about him!!!) 💪

Looking back on it, I believe Psyren in FMA 2003 is a narrative foil to 2 characters : Roy and Sloth. I'll mostly focus on Roy because that's really the parallel that talked to me the most.

I mean, once you think back on it, Psyren being a narrative foil to Sloth almost feels obvious : Alphonse immediately compares her to his mom, and immediately assumes she can do no wrong based on that first impression. That, plus her alchemy is heavily water-based.

But speaking of water, now onto fire: why Roy?

Well, Roy appears to the Elric brothers as an adult who is always one step above them. Almost immediately Edward shifts from admirative and respectful of him to doubtful and hostile after feeling like he was used once. A sort of rivalry gets established between the two. What's more, both Roy and Psyren are heavily associated with seductiveness, which in the 2003 version, is as much of a truth as it is a mask they wield to fool the people who underestimate them.

Most importantly though, is their goal: they both play cat and mouse with Edward, but also genuinely seem to want to help him. They both treat him half like a child, half like an adult, and tend to leave him extremely confused. Ed doesn't really seem to know for sure what to do with either of them.

But then, what does that parallel serve? Well I think Psyren makes it pretty clear: "what you think to be true of this character isn't necessarily so."

What is Psyren's goal? It is not to steal to gain money for herself, or to steal just to save a few establishment who might collapse in a few months. It's never made perfectly clear if her goal is actually the one stated, but it seems that she wants to give her dying city a few last moments of glory before it completely sinks into oblivion. The city WILL die, mind you, there is no stopping that, but she makes it go like a dying star : like a bright light everyone can see rather than a dull flicker no one noticed. She makes her city something to be remembered.

And accordingly, Roy's goal is not as obvious as it seems at first. He definetly tries to gain rank and power in the military, but why does it do it? To change the female uniform? That's obviously a stupid reason to want to go to the top. And why does he help Ed and Al ? Is it just for personal game? To be able to use them in need?

No. All he does, he does because of what happened in Ishbal. He wants to make sure something like it never happen again. Or does he? No, what he does is to give himself a justification for still being alive, to give meaning to the meaningless deaths he caused. It's both completely selfish and selfless at once. And the reason he helps Ed and Al? It's not about them, it's about the Rockbells, it's about Winry who he made an orphan. By helping the brothers he tries to correct that injustice he's responsible for. Or is it? Isn't it just because once he got to the door of their house, ready to take the blow of anything that gets thrown back at him, he instead faltered ? And that he still needed an excuse to be there?

So The Kingdom of the wicked and princes of sin by kerry maniscalco are books with explicit sex? I want to get into that World she's building

Oh, yes. I would recommend reading them in order, so you'd read the Kingdom of the Wicked trilogy, which is about one couple (Wrath and Emilia) and then Throne of the Fallen, which is technically a standalone. However, my friend read these books before me, and she read Throne of the Fallen first--and based on what she said, reading them in order would be more cohesive. Everything in Throne is its own thing but it does happen after the original trilogy.

Re: the sex. In the first Kingdom of the Wicked book, there's just a (really good, really hot) kiss and a FUCKTON of sexual tension. But personally, I would regard those three books as one long slow burn. And it's not even really a slow burn, because things get CONSIDERABLY more sexual early in book two. I'm talking fingering, handjobs, full orgasms, eating out, etc. There isn't p in v sex in that book. But by MY measure, they are having sex in book 2, and it's explicit. And then they escalate to P in V early in book 3 and there is a ton of explicit penetrative sex in that one. Like. There is more sex in book 2 and 3 of that trilogy than I read in a lot of other romance novels. Wrath beats it up, to put it frankly.

And Throne of the Fallen has had some really intense sex scenes so far, lol. He's oiled this girl's ass up (frankly we don't have enough "let me oil your ass up in a sensual massage" scenes in romance, I can think of one other I've read and remember lol), he's fingered her from behind (which shockingly DOES NOT HAPPEN as much as you'd think in romance??? This in at 10, I think a lot of authors have lowkey issues with certain sex acts from behind because they think it's unromantic and I'm like okay but sometimes I just wanna see someone get laid out they can kiss later), he's slapped her pussy, it's HAPPENING.

For comparison, I've read ACOTAR. I consider the ACOTAR sex scenes cringe at worst and subpar/not as explicit as everyone tells you at best. The sex scenes in these books are HOT and I love both of the couples a LOT. Wrath and Emilia are very... He's seemingly cold but actually BURNING with passion for her, she's kind of in a rueful partnership with him until she actually catches feelings, and Camilla and Envy are basically two black cats spitting at each other. When they aren't like. Humping in a corner.

The Estrangement Thing - NoBrandHero (there’s a theme here listen to me don’t be doubtful it’s worth the trouble, there is brojohn in there, which is not my thing at all, but it is NOT relevant to what i like about this fic, and i think if u read it, u will realize that immediately lol (*i am not including second best even though that fic is literally my favorite ds fic ever because it is NOT bro centric))

7. cold front off the pacific - drow_sy (i actually read this bc geometrician bookmarked it lol but it punches down on u and i like that)

15. play ball! - spacepuck (this is a johndave fic but it has this very stressful atmosphere around bro and dave that kinda fucks me up and also, delights me beyond reason. it tastes like summer to me. sandlot lookin ass. an old favorite)
