Chilly, Overcast Days

I go out the porch to see if the weather has improved. Light rains. Overcast. It hasn't. Thank heavens. The sky is completely covered with thick, opaque clouds. Three days of grey clouds followed by uninterrupted rain and frogs croaking in the background is pure bliss to me. I'm happy as a lark enjoying the early morning breeze.

Doesn't matter if the streets are slippery when you go out for a drive or that you have to run for cover when you step out of your vehicle if you happen to forget your umbrella. Rainy overcast weather is always welcome when you have hot, sunny climate all the time. Give me rain over clear skies. Rain is like a good friend that's nice to have around. It calms me but also revs me up.

Back in the day, we waited for the announcement of classes being suspended due to bad weather. When you're a kid and you have a whole day all to yourself, it feels like you got yourself the present you've always wished for. Or like eating your favorite ice cream or chocolate bar. Or watching cartoons nonstop. Long before Duane came into the picture, I was doing good. I didn't need anything. I was content with my life and comfortable in my own skin. I just needed my alone time to destress every once in a while and raindrops outside… and I'm alright in the world.

It's that time of year again! My garlic chives are blossoming so I gathered them up. Washed them thoroughly. Ran them through the salad spinner so that I didn't water down my vinegar. Mashed them unceremoniously into a mason jar and covered them with white distilled vinegar. Then I let it set for at least 24 hours and it turns the most gorgeous color. The smell is fantastic, but it tastes even better. This vinegar is a real treat on a fresh salad, especially one that I have grown myself. I planted six different varieties of lettuce this year. Which is something I never thought I would say ever because I used to be of the opinion that lettuce was useless. The equivalent of cheap filler. But that's because I had only ever had commercially grown lettuce, and it wasn't the best. Then I grew lettuce myself one year and completely changed my own mind. It's amazing how much better things taste when they are freshly harvested. So I will be saving this wonderful vinegar for my lettuce and I will enjoy it thoroughly. Happy Thursday my friends. Taking you to ✨🦋 another world ✨🦋 filled with music 🎶 and joy alighting on a gentle breeze in todays reels. I’ve been saving this visit to @butterflywonderlandaz to share in this difficult season. At least in our home, kids are finishing finals or heading into them, and there always seems to be a lot of stress and challenges that surface before summer officially arrives. But when I look at the glorious wings of the red and black one or the navy blue one which I’ve never seen before as they flutter around the exhibit, all my cares melt away like ice cream 🍨 in the sun. And in one golden second I am struck with wonder. Then I look down and one alights up on me and wants to walk around and share the moment. Somehow I feel so very special to have these little creatures close by. It must be like an angel’s breath or a hello from someone already in heaven.
