Lieutenant Governor Justin Edward Fairfax (born February 17, 1979) is a lawyer and politician who served as the 41st Lieutenant Governor of Virginia (2018-22). A member of the Democratic Party, he is the second African-American elected statewide in Virginia. In 2021, he was a Democratic candidate for Governor of Virginia.

His ancestors were enslaved to the Lords Fairfax of Cameron (for whom Fairfax County, Virginia is named). His ancestor, Simon Fairfax, was freed by Thomas Fairfax, 9th Lord Fairfax of Cameron. He was presented with a copy of the manumission document by his father on the day he was sworn in as Virginia’s lieutenant governor.

He moved with his family from Pittsburgh to DC when he was five years old. One of four children, he graduated from Duke University with a BA in Public Policy. After serving on the staff of the Senate Judiciary Committee, he earned a JD from Columbia Law School, where he was a member of the Columbia Law Review.

He was a briefing coordinator for Tipper Gore during the 2000 presidential campaign Al Gore, in the campaign’s Nashville office. He was a staffer for Democratic Senator John Edwards. He joined the John Kerry presidential campaign, as a bodyman for Edwards.

He then served as a law clerk to Judge Gerald Bruce Lee of the District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. He worked in the Washington office of the law firm WilmerHale before joining the Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia. He worked for two years as a federal prosecutor in Alexandria. He served as deputy coordinator of the Northern Virginia Human Trafficking Task Force during this time.

He ran for public office for the first time in 2013, seeking the Democratic nomination for state attorney general.

He co-chaired the 2014 reelection campaign of Senator Mark Warner. He was recruited to work at the law firm Venable LLP. He worked for Morrison & Foerster, a law firm where he made a partner.

He was a visitor at the Sanford School of Public Policy (2008-14) and 2015. He married Cerina Fairfax (2006) and they have two children. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence #alphaphialpha

Rodney Charlton Trotter's Birthday: Robin (Only Fools & Horses)

Today is Rodney Trotter's 60th birthday (2 November) and he is a fictional character portrayed by Nicholas Lyndhurst for sixty-four episodes over seven series and several Christmas Specials of the British sitcom: Only Fools & Horses. One of these Christmas specials has Rodney and his older half-brother, Del, dressed up as Batman and Robin to attend a fancy dress party. Nicholas Simon Lyndhurst is an English actor. He played Rodney Trotter in Only Fools and Horses, Gary Sparrow in Goodnight Sweetheart, Dan Griffin in the BBC drama New Tricks and Adam Parkinson in Carla Lane's series Butterflies. Lyndhurst also starred as Ashley Philips in The Two of Us, as Fletch's son Raymond in Going Straight, the sequel to the sitcom Porridge, Jimmy Venables in After You've Gone, and Freddie "The Frog" Robdal in the Only Fools & Horses prequel Rock & Chips. Now the question remains, why celebrate a fictional character's birthday than the actors? Well, simply by the time I discovered that Lyndhurst has portrayed a Robin – even for a fancy dress party, it was well past his birthday (20 April). Jealous || Wilhemina Venable

||Part 2 to Too Good At Goodbyes.||

~several months later~

You stood on the side of the stage taking a deep breath to calm your nerves. A gentle squeeze on your hand brought you back to reality. You looked over to your right and was met with a warm smile that made all your nerves dissipate. You returned a smile just a warm before being told to go out on the stage. You walked out onto the middle of the stage standing directly in the middle of the star, looking at the judges who would decide your fate today.

"Hi." You said softly into the mic as you waved.

"Hello darling. What's your name?" Heidi asked. Heidi Klum, THEE Heidi Klum was talking to you.

"I'm Y/n L/n." You said as your voice shook slightly from excitement.

"Well Y/n where are you from?" Simon asked.

"I'm from (hometown) but I just moved to New Orleans." You said with a smile as you glanced at the wonderful woman accompanying you today.

"That's great. So, what are you gonna do for us today?"

"I'm going to be playing the piano and singing today." You said with confidence.

"And what song will you be singing?" Simon asked as he finally looked up at you. Your nerves slightly shot up as you made eye contact with him but you replied with a smile.

"I'll be singing Jealous by Labrinth."

"And what made you chose this song?" He asked again as he began tapping his pen.

"Well several months ago I got my heartbroken and I had planned on singing the song that was playing while we broke up but instead I just chose to sing about how I felt during my heartbreak. Luckily my heart is on the mend and in good hands." You said with a light blush creeping on your face at the end of your little speech.

"Alright then. Good luck." He said whilst nodding.

You walked to the piano that was sitting behind you and put the mic in its stand as you took a deep breath. Soon after you began playing the opening to the song before softly singing into the mic with emotions heavily coating your voice. Little did you know the woman you were singing to was watching you miles away.

Your voice slightly cracked at the end of the song because you were overcome with emotion. You played the last chord before sitting back and taking a deep breath. All of a sudden everyone was on their feet, clapping and cheering for you as you just sat there in awe. Once everyone had calmed down you stood back up and in front of the judges.

They all wiped their faces free from their tears before reacting to you verablly.

"That was.... wow Y/n. You were brilliant!" Howie exclaimed.

"Honestly. You had so much emotion and it hit the heart ten times harder than the original song did. I have no words, so I'll speak with my actions." Simon said as he stood from his chair. He lifted his hand in the air before smacking the golden buzzer. A gasp escaped your mouth as you placed your hand over your heart.

Sirens rang and gold confetti fell from the ceiling as the entire crowded started cheering for you again. You looked around at everyone as tears welled up in your eyes. You looked over to the side meeting the eyes of the woman who had done nothing more than encourage you these last months. She ran out onto the stage with her arms wide open. You dropped the mic and instantly scooped her up in your arms before twirling around and kissing her softly.

"Congratulations Y/n!! You have just been advanced to the live shows in Hollywood!! How you feeling?"Nick Cannon asked as you set the woman down on the ground. She kept her arms around you as you answered his question.

"I feel..wow. Um I feel awesome. I couldn't have done any of this if it wasn't for this amazing woman right here. Thank you for everything Cordelia. I love you." You said as you held her closer.

You and Cordelia left the stage hand in hand to prepare to go back to the hotel you were staying at for the time being.

Halfway across the country Wilhemina was sitting on the couch, tears streaming down her face from your performance. Knowing she was the reason behind your pain hurt her in a way she had never experienced. She never regretted her decision in leaving you until now. She heard the footsteps of her current lover, the one who took your place, and quickly wiped her tears.

"My flight is leaving soon. I'll call you as soon as I land love." She said as she placed a kiss on WIlhemina's forehead. Wilhemina simply nodded with a soft smile.

Once she was gone Wilhemina quickly grabbed her phone and stared at your contact for a while as she thought about what you said on tv. She hadn't realized how the breakup had effected you, just how it was relieving her from something she thought was stress. To her dismay, it wasn't stress or anything bad for that matter. It was love. Wilhemina was falling in love with you and she panicked. She projected all of her feelings into someone else. They were the reason for her late nights and early mornings, taking her mind off of the truth. Her feelings got mixed and she left you, her true love, for someone who was treating her how she treated you. She was getting a taste of her own medicine and boy was it bitter.

She finally built some courage and decided to text the number she still had for you, hoping it was you.

Unknown number: Y/n?

You heard your phone ding which made you turn your focus away from the movie you and Cordelia were watching. You stared at the number in confusion. You didn't know anyone from New York.

You: Who is this?

Unknown: It's Wilhemina..

This took you by a major surprise. Had she seen your performance? Was she texting you just because? Was she finally regretting leaving you?

You: Oh um hi, how are you?

Wilhemina: I've had better days. How are you?

You: I'm great. I was just advanced to the live shows on America's Got Talent.

Wilhemina: I saw your performance. You were outstanding Y/n.

You: Thank you..

Wilhemina: I was just coming to you to apologize. I was afraid of what I was feeling and acted on instinct instead of processing my feelings. I'm sorry that I was the cause of your pain but I'm glad someone came to heal it.

You: I appreciate and accept your apology. And I'm sorry for not being enough for you.

Wilhemina: Darling, you were more than enough. I'm sorry I didn't see it. Maybe we'll cross paths in another lifetime. Until then I wish you well.

You had set your phone down feeling ten times lighter than you had before. You finally had the closure you had been searching for, and now you were able to love Cordelia to the fullest.

On the other hand Wilhemina felt weighed down and overcome with emotions she never thought she would have to deal with. She was officially jealous of the way you were happy without her.

Justin Edward Fairfax (born February 17, 1979) is a lawyer and politician who served as the 41st Lieutenant Governor of Virginia from 2018 to 2022. A member of the Democratic Party, he is the second African-American elected statewide in Virginia. In 2021, he was a Democratic candidate for Governor of Virginia. His ancestors were enslaved to the Lords Fairfax of Cameron (for whom Fairfax County, Virginia is named). His ancestor, Simon Fairfax, was freed by Thomas Fairfax, 9th Lord Fairfax of Cameron. He was presented with a copy of the manumission document by his father on the day he was sworn in as Virginia's lieutenant governor. He moved with his family from Pittsburgh to DC when he was five years old. One of four children, he graduated from Duke University with a BA in Public Policy. After serving on the staff of the Senate Judiciary Committee, he earned a JD from Columbia Law School, where he was a member of the Columbia Law Review. He was a briefing coordinator for Tipper Gore during the 2000 presidential campaign Al Gore, in the campaign's Nashville office. He was a staffer for Democratic Senator John Edwards. He joined the John Kerry presidential campaign, as a body man for Edwards. He then served as a law clerk to Judge Gerald Bruce Lee of the District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. He worked in the Washington office of the law firm WilmerHale before joining the Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Virginia. He worked for two years as a federal prosecutor in Alexandria. He served as deputy coordinator of the Northern Virginia Human Trafficking Task Force during this time. He ran for public office for the first time in 2013, seeking the Democratic nomination for state attorney general. He co-chaired the 2014 reelection campaign of Senator Mark Warner. He was recruited to work at the law firm Venable LLP. He worked for Morrison & Foerster, a law firm where he made partner. He was a visitor at the Sanford School of Public Policy from 2008 to 2014 and again in 2015. Hello there! Oooh, this is an excellent ask. I’m gonna do my best here to give you the rundown of LGBTQ+ novels I’ve read and enjoyed, including quite a number of graphic novels as well, as those speak directly to my field of interest for obvious reasons. (I’m hoping to expand this list quite a bit…)

Ones I’ve read:

Carry On by @rainbowrowell: Because of course. Rainbow’s smart/ hilarious dialogue and heartfelt narrative shines in a subversive homage to the Harry Potter series in which two boys destined to kill each other fall in love instead and save the World of Mages. I’m obsessed. :)

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz: There are simply not enough words to describe how much I loved this book. Benjamin Alire Sáenz’s prose reads like poetry, and as a Latinx person, I felt so many of the themes in it very deeply. It chronicles the deepening friendship and love between two Mexican American boys in the 1980s, and one of the aspects about the book that impressed me most was the way it depicted a loving, supportive family dynamic around the queer protagonists. The book wrung tears from my eyes. Highly recommend.

Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green and David Levithan: This is the first LGBTQ YA book I’ve ever read and I loved. It’s about two boys with the same name (one gay, one straight) whose stories are connected by way of a fabulously confident and charming gay bloke named Tiny. It’s romantic and funny and very creatively executed seeing as each author assumes the voice of one Will Grayson (they alternate chapters).

Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli: This book was adapted to film, but I highly recommend reading the novel, as Simon’s narration is endearing and funny (and at points, heartbreaking) as he grapples with coming out before a classmate outs him as part of a scheme to blackmail him. This book flew by; there was so much angst happening, I couldn’t wait to find out what was going to happen. And of course, there’s the romantic mystery at the heart of Simon’s story: who is “Blue” and will Simon ever get together with him?

Kiss Number 8 written by Colleen AF Venable, Ellen T. Crenshaw (Illustrator): A smartly written, beautifully drawn and hopeful graphic novel about a young girl coming to terms with her queerness in the midst of Catholic High School drama. The dialogue alone makes this worth it. Deals with not only sexual orientation/coming out but features a transgender plot line as well. When I finished it, I felt uplifted.

Prince and the Dressmaker by Jen Wang: This graphic novel reads like a subversive Disney fairy tale. It centers on the relationship between Prince Sebastian who secretly moonlights as a fashion icon named “Lady Chrystalia” and his best friend Frances, whom he hired to design his fabulous dresses. I actually read it to my son, and it inspired wonderful conversations about gender fluidity, gender performance, and of course, the power of love to transcend all of the above.

Bloom by by Kevin Panetta, Savanna Ganucheau (Illustrator): Another graphic novel drawn in a manga-esque art style about Ari and Hector, two boys working a bakery together and finding friendship and love in the time they spend together creating confections. It’s light and fluffy and predictably delicious.

Check! Please by Ngozi Ukazu: This is the softcover omnibus of years one and two of the popular webcomic of the same title. Its protagonist, Eric Bittle (”Bitty”) is a pie-baking former figure skater-turned-collegiate hockey player, and his eventual relationship with the team captain is nearly as charming as the hilarious and familial dynamic of everyone on the team. Read it for laughs and a feel good love story.

Graphic novel is a stupid term that often encompasses things that are not novels, but I used it as a blanket term for anything comics I read that were bound rather than stapled. Minis are shorter works, stapled, and generally self-published by the artist, or done by a small press like Shortbox or Youth in Decline. I was totally lazy about crediting creators on series because my actual list for that is a grid, keeping track of each issue. Similarly, when listing creators on trades, I tended to only list writer and artist which is enough for some books, but sometimes there are many more, inkers, and colorists and letterers, and maybe I’ll do better next year.

Support your local library, your local comic shop (especially Hub Comics if you’re in the Boston area), and indie comic shows like MICE.
