"MANY OF THE ICONIC AND DEFINING ASPECTS OF KIRBY'S ART ARE THE ONES THAT RESONATE WITH THE AESTHETICS OF PSYCHEDELIA."
PIC INFO: Spotlight on a splash page of Reed Richards awash in Kirby Krackle, written by Stan "The Man" Lee, artwork by Jack "King" Kirby, from the pages of "Fantastic Four" Vol. 1 #51. 1966. Marvel Comics. Inks by Joe Sinnott & letters by Artie Simek.
"Many of the iconic and defining aspects of Kirby’s art are ones that resonate with the aesthetics of psychedelia, whether it be his twisting, fractal-like designs for giant machines, his tendency to use clusters of solid black dots to convey massive amounts of energy, a technique that’s come to be known as Kirby Krackle, or his experiments with collage and montage, Kirby’s art takes the four color action aesthetic that originally defined superhero comics and expands it to a lurid world comprised of sheer kineticism."

Video of my recent GENE COLAN webinar is up on my YouTube channel: "With the obvious exception of Jack Kirby, no other Marvel Comics artist defined the look of as many major characters as GENE COLAN (1926-2011) did during The Silver Age of Comics (1956-70)! Here's an overview of Colan’s illustrious Silver Age career, with dynamically displayed comic book panels, pages and covers that'll make you feel like you’re seeing them for the first time!" https://youtu.be/M4j_8XDVVF8 #genecolan #arlenschumer #marvelcomic #marvelcomicbooks #marvelcomicsgroup #marvelcomicsuniverse #daredevil #ironman #drstrange #doctorstrange #submariner #tompalmer #comicbooks #comicbookhistory #comicbookhistorian #comicbookartists #comicbookartwork #silveragecomics #silverageofcomics @dgareps @dbbushman @richardsyrettstrangeplanet @nyadventureclub @adamschumer https://www.instagram.com/p/Cm9fGAXLIj4/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

With the free time allotted to me due to NYC being locked down due to COVID-19, I've decided to start reading some of the many comics I have. For today I'm reading the Silver Age/Jack Kirby inspired Freedom Force. The comic series published by @imagecomics is based on the game of the same name published by Irrational Games. The timeline is the early 1960's at the height of the Cold War. What I liked about the game was the ability to mod the characters and create your own missions. Many of which you could download and add to the game. Many gamers made many characters based on the Marvel and DC line of characters. You can find it and the sequel on Steam though they don't play well on Windows 10. The comic captures the essence of the game which captures the bombastic style of storytelling that was a hallmark of Jack Kirby and the Silver Age of comics. #FreedomForce #FreedomForceVsThe3rdReich #IrrationalGames #ImageComics #JackKirby #SilverAgeofComics #Comic #Comics #ComicBook #ComicBooks #SiscosFavoriteComics https://www.instagram.com/p/B-GlrrnhjMt/?igshid=16z1ucvf584u3

PIC(S) INFO: It's riple heartbreak time, Tumblrland -- Spotlight on cover art to "GIRLS' ROMANCES" Vol. 1 #138. January, 1969. DC Comics. Artwork by Jack Sparling & Vince Colletta. Letters by Gaspar Saladino.
Didn't know which one I liked best, as they're all incredibly beautiful iterations of the same cover, so, I'll let you all decide instead. Of course, I'm partial to the one at the very top of this post. Obviously.
Resolution from largest to smallest: 1034x1542, 788x1179, & 711x1054.

PLEASE DON'T PARROT/REBLOG FALLACIES OR OTHER MISINFORMATION ON TUMBLR.
PIC INFO: Resolution at 1703x2505 -- Spotlight on cover art to "Girls' Romances" Vol. 1 #134. July, 1968. DC Comics. Artwork by Jack Sparling & Gaspar Saladino.
OVERVIEW: "Often mentioned in comic book price guides, this cover is not by Neal Adams. Like many DC romance comics at the time, the cover re-purposes one of the interior pages inside. This is more likely penciled by Jack Sparling and inked by Dick Giordano. Other artists in this silver age comic include Bernard Sachs."
