thinking of a time travel au for fates gen 2, because deeprealms are a terrible way to get the kids. but the campaign chosen doesn't necessarily dictate the kids you get
so it's kind of like heirs of fate, where they come from two different world. thanks to a combination of Lilith, the orb that was entrusted to the Awakening trio, and the appropriate Corrin kids, they are able to travel back in tim
the timeline diverges as early as a few years before the game starts. this time, Corrin ends up on Rev instead.

Lucina!Soleil
promptly ends up having her identity revealed to her parents because she has a brand, being the first one as well, after Laslow finds her in a bar. Is the first instance of Nohr realizing something is up. Inherits Falchion. Siegbert's retainer. (Dead in BR)

Orochi!Shiro
first prince of Hoshido and the leader of the army. Feels responsible for losing Dwyer and M!Kana. Beruka!Percy
Treated by Forrest as a younger sibling. Was taken in by Camilla after his parents' deaths. Used to the kind, motherly version of her, he tries to tell her immediately. Soleil is thankfully there to stop him. Kept off the battlefield due to his age. (Dead in CQ)
Hana!Sophie
First Dwyer's, then Kana's retainer. Chooses to reunite with her father first, introducing herself as a distant cousin. After he disappears, she attempts to track him down. (Does not exist in CQ)

im about to dm an Ever After High campaign and i just want to talk about the lore surrounding each of my player's characters so I will do it here
[ignore this thread if you are one of my players, or i will cry]
[eng isn't my first language, so i apologize if my words arent making sense]
post 1 of ?
1. Oriana Swan - Future Odette
Oriana Swan is the daughter of Odette from Swan Lake and the half-sister of Duchess Swan, the next Odile.
The fairy tale I used as a base was Barbie's Swan Lake, since my player was more comfortable with following the events of the movie rather than the original story, which was perfectly fine by me! With the only exception: in the end, when Odette defeats Rothbart, he dies, no matter the circumstances.
When it was her mother's turn to continue the story of Swan Lake, she and Rothbart made one of the biggest mistakes ever seen in the Fairy Tale universe. They fell in love. Going against the status quo and putting in risk the future of their story.
That's when the Fairy Queen (Movie character, she's the cousin of Rothbart, and the reason he went rogue. Rothbart wanted to become the next Fairy King), decided to take matter on her own hands, by also being persuaded by a mysterious and powerful creature who named themselves as the "Writer". They convinced the Fairy Queen that the only way to save their story was if she made the same actions as the past Rothbart's, cursing Rothbart and making him turn into a crow. She used Prince Siegfried and disguised him Rothbart and made Odette declare her love for the wrong man.
And as Rothbart watched Odette waltz with the wrong man, kiss him, and tell him she loved him, without having any power to stop her. Rothbart’s heart broke, and once again, love defeated the evil sorcerer because he would rather die than live without the woman he loves. A part of Odette died that day, too. Her joy and happiness left her soul as she realized what she had done, what the Fairy Queen did, and that she could never have her happily ever after no more.
And nine months after, two girls were born. One of them was born with the love and care of the Prince maiden, and the other one came out of a falling petal of a moonflower, hidden away in an attic where's only light source was the moonlight. The daughter of Prince Siegfried: Oriana Swan, and the daughter of Rothbart: Duchess Swan.
Oriana grew up as a very loved princess by her dad's kingdom and received all of the things she needed it and more. The remains of Odette’s love were given to each of her girls, and so Odette became so overly proactive of both of them. She didn't want them to step a foot on the Enchanted Forest, the fairies where monsters and that the Fairy Queen was the evilest of them all.
Duchess understood this and kept her distance, dedicating herself to practicing her ballet with her mom, since dancing was the only thing that made Odette slightly smile. But Oriana couldn't be any more difficult. Oriana loved the forest, and even though she knew what the Fairy Queen did to her mom, Oriana couldn't avoid being fascinated by forestial magic. She tried to her distance with the fairies, but she couldn't avoid them forever.
And so one day, she met this fairy boy about her same age. Rowan Fae, the next Rothbart in line. Chaos ENSURES.

1944 11 07 Puffendorf, Panther 9 Panzer Division - Steve Noon
Tank Battle at Puffendorf, November 17, 1944
Panther tanks of Kampfgruppe Bockhoff began attacking towards Puffendorf in the early morning. Sherman tanks of 2nd Armoured Division, deployed in open ground bore the brunt of the attack. Struggling in the mud, the guns of the Sherman's were largely ineffective against more heavily armoured Panthers. Often sheltering behind ruined buildings their experienced crews maintained a safe distance, from the more vunerable Sherman's. Later that morning the battered US forces withdrew, 2nd Battalion having lost 19 tanks. From: Osprey Publishing's: Campaign 181, The Siegfried Line 1944-45.

Got tagged by @paulinedorchester to weigh in with my thoughts about what the heck Tristan Farnon is going to be doing with himself at the end of Season 3 of All Creatures Great and Small.
I, too, was, a bit confused about what the Royal Army Veterinary Corps would be doing, given David Webster's line at the end of Band of Brothers - "What are you DOING? You still have HORSES? Say hello to Ford and GENERAL FUCKING MOTORS."
It is true - demand for animals in the face of mechanization was declining. In 1938 the Army Veterinary School at Aldershot closed, and in 1942 the Army Remount Service, responsible for training and providing replacement horses, merged with the RAVC. Horses were still in use for Household Cavalry regiments at home, but nearer the front line there was still a demand for pack animals (and thus a need for a vet) in places where roads and local infrastructure couldn't support trucks. The North African and Italian campaigns, for instance, saw a lot of mule and camel usage. (Anyone wanting a truly different war animal story will have to check out Elephant Company, by Vicki Constantine Croke, about a group of partisans/irregulars operating in Burma with - you guessed it - elephants.)
And it wasn't just pack animals - The RVAC and US Army Veterinary Corps also provided working military dogs, which were trained for a variety of uses. The US Army Veterinary Corps also was (and continues to be) highly involved in food safety, especially in the pre-industrial era where Quartermaster Corps cooks might be doing their own butchering out in the field.
(For a bit of context about this story and World War two in general - Donald Sinclair, Alf Wight's partner and the man that Siegfried is based on, did sign up for the RAF; he was discharged after six months and returned to his practice. If memory serves, it's James that gets that storyline in the original 1970s series.)

UNIT PROFILE– 761ST TANK BATTALION (COLORED) BLACK HISTORY MONTH Of the three armor battalions composed of Black soldiers in the segregated U.S. Army of World War II, the 761st "Black Panther" Tank Battalion is arguably the best known. Constituted on 15 March 1942 in the Army of the United States and activated on 1 April 1942 at Camp Claiborne, Louisiana, it was initially equipped with the M5 Stuart tank but transitioned to the M4 Sherman when the Army began fielding that system to the non-divisional armor units. After the battalion completed training in the United States - which included serving as the "aggressor" force against the student units of the tank destroyer school and participation in a phase of the Louisiana Maneuvers, the 761st was deemed "combat ready" and shipped overseas to the European Theater of Operations. Following a short stay in England, the battalion arrived in France on 10 October 1944, and was assigned to the Third Army commanded by the legendary proponent of armored warfare, Lieutenant General George S. Patton Jr. As a separate tank battalion, the 761st was attached to Infantry divisions - which had no organic armor units - for combat operations. As such, the "Black Panthers" entered combat for the first time on 7 November 1944. In 183 days of combat operations while attached to the all-white 26th, 71st, 79th, 87th, 95th and 103d Infantry Divisions, the 761st participated in the Allied drive through France, Patton’s relief of Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge, and the breaching of the Siegfried Line. By the end of the war the Black Panthers had made it all the way to Austria (where they liberated the Gunskirchen concentration camp); the 761st was inactivated on 1 June 1946 in Germany. During WWII, the Black Panthers earned a Medal of Honor, a Presidential Unit Citation, 11 Silver Stars, 69 Bronze Stars, 296 Purple Hearts, and four campaign streamers (Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, Central Europe). #Armyhistory #USArmy #TRADOC #WWII #WW2 #WW2History #Patton #Bastogne #BlackPanther #ShermanTank #BlackHistoryMonth #ArmyHeritage U.S. Army U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command. #repostedfrom @armyhistory (at Columbia, Tennessee) https://www.instagram.com/p/CohszLPuF7Z/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

#Repost @deptvetaffairs • • • • • • Originally from Medicine Park, Oklahoma, Charles Chibitty was a member of the Comanche tribe and descended from the Comanche Chief Three Bears. He attended an Indian boarding school, where he was forbidden to speak in his native language. He enlisted in January 1941 and was sent to Fort Benning, Georgia, with 16 other Comanche recruits to serve with the 4th Signal Corps of the 4th Infantry Division. At Fort Benning, the Comanche Code Talkers took phone, radio, morse code and semaphore training. They also were tasked with creating a list of words to use in battlefield communications. “We compiled a 100-word vocabulary of military terms during training,” said Chibitty in a 1999 article. He also learned to spell out the words that lacked specific code equivalents by using random Comanche words. “If the location started with the letter ‘A’, then I would say ‘araka’ the Comanche word for ‘alligator,’” he explained. Once the code was set, the code talkers underwent field exercises at various bases in the U.S. before deploying to England to prepare for the D-Day invasion. On June 6, 1944, Chibitty and 12 other Comanche Code Talkers landed on Utah Beach in Normandy, France, with the 22nd Infantry Regiment as part of the Allied invasion of Europe. During the offensive campaign, code talkers worked by directing aircraft and naval gunfire to targets, informing other Comanche code breakers at higher headquarters of the tactical situation on the ground and relaying information back to their unit commander. The 4th Signal Corps went on to take part in many major battles of the European Theater, including the Siegfried Line, Saint-Lô and the Battle of the Bulge. The Germans never broke the Comanche Code, which was crucial in communicating in the European Theater. Chibitty was honorably discharged from the Army as a technician fifth grade. For his service, he received a Purple Heart, an American Theater Campaign Medal, a European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with Silver Service Star and a World War II Victory medal. Chibitty died in July 2005 at the age of 83. We honor his service. https://www.instagram.com/p/CkcH2torghp/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

First Into The Reich - Seven US Soldiers Invade Germany
Feb 9, 2024
Which Western Allied unit was first to cross into Germany during WWII, and how did they manage it? This is the story of how seven GIs gained the record of being the first onto German soil in a daring raid behind enemy lines.
Primary Source: 'UNITED STATES ARMY IN WORLD WAR II: The European Theater of Operations: THE SIEGFRIED LINE CAMPAIGN,' by Charles B. MacDonald, CENTER OF MILITARY HISTORY UNITED STATES ARMY: WASHINGTON, D. C., 1990 Credits: US National Archives; Library of Congress; Bundesarchiv; PlayMistyForMe

I'm a bit reluctant to give my two cents on the story lock, since the event did contain spoilers near the end, but:
A LB6 or LB7 intro lock would have fit better, as those are the portions used in the Christmas event.
At this point I wonder if they're just trying to goad people through 6.5, even through there's already enough of a strong incentive from the amount of grails you get from it. And for what? Nothing to look forward to but mat grinding and empty schedules?
Ahem.
Okay, on topic (somewhat) and more light-hearted nonsense:
Asking a favor from Quetzalcoatl to take Sieg out flying on the Quetzalcoatlus, since Siegfried prefers to stay on the ground. To make up for Steggy.
I solemnly swear not to be a bad influence and fly into a thunderstorm again.
Yeah, I think an Avalon or Mictlan (mostly the former) lock would've been better. While there is a spoiler that does relate to Traum (that being CHALDEAS), that was in like what, the last story portion of the event? Compared to everything else, especially with the line-up, an Avalon lock would've made more sense.
And… maybe they (being the writers/devs, or just Nasu) are pushing players to go through Traum, because besides the grails that you can get, there are story important bits in it (Holmes, Ruler Moriarty, Kadoc, David Bluebook and again, CHALDEAS), but after it was so thoroughly ignored for the Road to 7 campaigns and later became not mandatory to go through, I'm not entirely sure. Would feel like a case of “too little, too late” in my opinion (especially since OC2 is probably around the corner unless Nasu actually is planning to release U-Olga, even though he said that there's no plan to do so, but it wouldn't be the first time that the mushroom man has been contradictory).
Quetz is down for taking Sieg out for a flight, but the instant a thunderstorm is coming, she's turning that old bird around!

I'm in my Fontaine/Neuvillette fever right now and considering I'm also writing a new d&d campaign lots of ideas are swirling around in my head like atoms colliding with each other, creating new ideas.
So, I made a Fontaine related quest starring Traveler, Neuvillette and bunch of other characters.
Im tagging @lunargrapejuice to obsess with me.
There's an island in a huge lake northwest of Fontaine. This island is fabled to inhabit a mysterious secret order that protected wilderness from evil, called Swan Maidens or Swanmays for short. These warriors of nature possessed many mysterious abilities, such as being able to take the form of a swan and speak with animals. Only good-willed females were permitted to join the order. The order had additional requirements for the recruits, such as being able to speak Sylvan and the ability to speak with animals. The initiate must have performed a great deed for another swanmay before being accepted into the order. When they were officially part of the order, they received a feathered token that allowed them to change forms.
Now to the island itself. Most of it is being held together by roots of a massive elder tree that also serves as headquarters for Swanmays and was planted by the first Swanmay and founder of the order.
Once every hundred years the Elder tree produces a seed that is used to replenish energy of the Elder tree, which in turn is the only living non-petrified ley-line blossom, and as such it's crucial for the entire Teyvat to preserve the elder tree.
Now when the infodump is over, it's time for the plot of the quest itself. The magic seed was stolen, the Elder tree is dying and as such the whole island is falling apart. The prime suspect for the theft is a high ranking member of Swanmays, the Black Swan. Without the seed, the restoration ceremony cannot take place, and therefore, the life force of the island, and the world will fade away. The leader of the order, White Swan, has sent a request on the mainland to hold an investigation and trial for the thief. Neuvilette is setting foot on this island, along with traveler, of course.
Upon arriving, the traveler meets an eccentric tailor, who claims to be a famous fashion designér in Fontaine. He possesses a Geo Vision and as such, is capable of fixing the cracks appearing all around the island with his magical giant needle.
The tailor proclaims he doesn’t know how to reach the Elder tree, so he gives traveler White Swan's letter. By fixing the bridge, the traveler and tailor travel to the Elder tree, where Elise the White Swan meets them and explains the situation. She also gives a traveler amulet that can stun Black Swan temporarily. Traveler begins to investigate the area and is attacked by a large monster, but the tailor saves them just in time. (This would be small boss battle in which you test run the tailors character)
Traveler sees Black Swan, but before they can talk, the Swan creates a new crack, blocking the path. Traveler manages to get across and follow Black Swan into the waterfall where she has her secret hideout. There they find the magic seed inside. Once taken, the Black Swan confronts the traveler, saying only members of the Swanmays can touch the seed. Using the amulet on Black Swan, the traveler makes an escape and returns seed to Elise to begin the ceremony.
However, unbeknownst to the traveler, Elise is plotting to use the Elder tree as a beacon for elemental power to absorb. Elise attacks travelers and uses the seed to make herself more powerful. She encompasses herself in chrysalis, where she can become the next archon. Traveler is saved by Black Swan who explains to them that there's still hope, for a man was trapped in prison under the lake a few days ago and that he may be able to help.
Traveler disables many traps to reach prison, upon doing so, meets Siegfried. Traveler destroys the wicked enchantments and removes the force crystal. On the way out of prison Elise confronts them, now a grotesque monster. She attempts to kill everyone, but the force crystal stuns her long enough for the three to escape to Black Swan's hideout. Siegfried needs potion to recover so Black Swan tasks the traveler with making healing potion. (This is a small quest in which the traveler collects a number of plants and earns a recipe for new potion) Once Siegfried receives the healing potion, the three can walk outside the hideout, the Black Swan is taken by Elise. Siegfried suggests they should find the Swan archives, where all answers are hidden.
They key to the archive is hidden in Graves of one of the Swan princesses. Traveler finds two pieces of an ancient Swan scroll while sleuthing. Using the scroll to rule out graves, traveler finds the key in Odette's tomb, which only has her armor, for she was exiled. (There traveler receives five Swan artifacts) The tailor falls from above from one of the cracks, and traveler cuts him out of vines. He angrily states that the princess took his magic needle and threw him off the throne room. Siegfried admits that his greatsword was stolen as well.
Using a key from Odette's coffin, the entrance to the archives opens. In an ancient stone tablet, the traveler learns that there's a way to ať least temporarily stop the corruption - the swanmay talisman, similar to one used against the Black Swan. Siegfried says that if they can get Elise on the top of the Elder tree, then the talisman should work. This leads Siegfried and traveler to lead to the Swan guardhouse where all the talisman are stored.
The Black Swan (Odile) is already inside the house and says she barely managed to escape Elise's clutches. They find the talisman and go to the Elder tree to meet with Siegfried and tailor.
They activate an elevator to reach the top of the tree, but Siegfried says they need enchanted weapons to defeat Elise. So the Four of them depart to take their weapons back and forge an arrow imbued with the talisman. There is an epic battle on top of the Elder tree, with Elise inside a resin golem. With Siegfried , tailor and traveler deflecting Elise's blows, Odile shoots the arrow and Elise plummets to her death.
Lady Furina gets her powers back, but Odile was gravely injured during the fight. Lady Furina declares she shall restore her for "she has carried her curse as proudy as any crown". In gratitude, Furina also offers to promote Odile to be the next Swan princess. Odile's interactions with traveler decide whether she chooses to accept the position of Swan princess or she will travel Teyvat as the Swanmay ambassador.
Epilogue
Thus, traveler, Siegfried, tailor and Black Swan defeated the monstrosity that Elise had become and saved Furina. The corruption wrought on the Elder tree was healed. Its canopy was once again crowned green, its withering branches sprang life anew.
Yet, deep in the earth of the Elder tree still bear scars. They will serve as a reminder of what becomes when balance is disturbed, even by those with noble intentions.

World War 2 Bastogne Street Ruin (12mm (N Scale) 3D Printed Model)
Tumblr media
World War 2 Bastogne Street Ruin (12mm (N Scale) 3D Printed Model) Era: Late Modern History - World War 2 Battle of the Bulge: The Battle of the Bulge, also known as the Ardennes Offensive, was a major German offensive campaign on the Western Front during World War II which took place from 16 December 1944 to 25 January 1945. It was launched through the densely forested Ardennes region between Belgium and Luxembourg towards the end of the war in Europe. The offensive was intended to stop Allied use of the Belgian port of Antwerp and to split the Allied lines, allowing the Germans to encircle and destroy the four Allied forces and cause the Allies to negotiate a peace treaty in the Axis powers' favor. The Battle of the Bulge remains among the most important battles of the war, as it marked the last major offensive attempted by the Axis Powers on the Western front. After their defeat, Germany would retreat for the remainder of the war. The Germans achieved a total surprise attack on the morning of 16 December 1944, due to a combination of Allied overconfidence, preoccupation with Allied offensive plans, and poor aerial reconnaissance due to bad weather. American forces bore the brunt of the attack. The Germans had attacked a weakly defended section of the Allied line, taking advantage of heavily overcast weather conditions that grounded the Allies' superior air forces. Fierce American resistance on the northern shoulder of the offensive, around Elsenborn Ridge, and in the south, around Bastogne, blocked German access to key roads to the northwest and west that they counted on for success. Columns of armor and infantry that were supposed to advance along parallel routes found themselves on the same roads. This congestion, and terrain that favored the defenders, threw the German advance behind schedule and allowed the Allies to reinforce the thinly placed troops. The farthest west the offensive reached was the village of Foy-Nôtre-Dame, south east of Dinant, being stopped by the U.S. 2nd Armored Division on 24 December 1944. Improved weather conditions from around 24 December permitted air attacks on German forces and supply lines, which sealed the failure of the offensive. On 26 December the lead element of Patton's U.S. Third Army reached Bastogne from the south, ending the siege. Although the offensive was effectively broken by 27 December, when the trapped units of 2nd Panzer Division made two break-out attempts with only partial success, the battle continued for another month before the front line was effectively restored to its position prior to the attack. In the wake of the defeat, many experienced German units were out of men and equipment, and the survivors retreated to the Siegfried Line. The Germans' initial attack involved 410,000 men; just over 1,400 tanks, tank destroyers, and assault guns; 2,600 artillery pieces; and over 1,000 combat aircraft, as well as large numbers of other armored fighting vehicles (AFVs). These were reinforced a couple of weeks later, bringing the offensive's total strength to around 450,000 troops, and 1,500 tanks and assault guns. Between 63,222 and 98,000 of these men were killed, missing, wounded in action, or captured. The battle severely depleted Germany's armored forces, which remained largely unreplaced throughout the remainder of the war. German Luftwaffe personnel, and later also Luftwaffe aircraft (in the concluding stages of the engagement) also sustained heavy losses. From among the Americans' peak strength of 610,000 troops, there were 89,000 casualties, including about 19,000 killed. The "Bulge" was the largest and bloodiest single battle fought by the United States in World War II and the third-deadliest campaign in American history. Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Bulge History: World War II or the Second World War, often abbreviated as WWII or WW2, was a global war that lasted from 1939 to 1945. It involved the vast majority of the world's countries—including all of the great powers—forming two opposing military alliances: the Allies and the Axis powers. In a total war directly involving more than 100 million personnel from more than 30 countries, the major participants threw their entire economic, industrial, and scientific capabilities behind the war effort, blurring the distinction between civilian and military resources. Aircraft played a major role in the conflict, enabling the strategic bombing of population centers and the only two uses of nuclear weapons in war. World War II was by far the deadliest conflict in human history; it resulted in 70 to 85 million fatalities, a majority being civilians. Tens of millions of people died due to genocides (including the Holocaust), starvation, massacres, and disease. In the wake of the Axis defeat, Germany and Japan were occupied, and war crimes tribunals were conducted against German and Japanese leaders. World War II is generally considered to have begun on 1 September 1939, when Nazi Germany, under Adolf Hitler, invaded Poland. The United Kingdom and France subsequently declared war on Germany on 3 September. Under the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact of August 1939, Germany and the Soviet Union had partitioned Poland and marked out their "spheres of influence" across Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Romania. From late 1939 to early 1941, in a series of campaigns and treaties, Germany conquered or controlled much of continental Europe, and formed the Axis alliance with Italy and Japan (along with other countries later on). Following the onset of campaigns in North Africa and East Africa, and the fall of France in mid-1940, the war continued primarily between the European Axis powers and the British Empire, with war in the Balkans, the aerial Battle of Britain, the Blitz of the UK, and the Battle of the Atlantic. On 22 June 1941, Germany led the European Axis powers in an invasion of the Soviet Union, opening the Eastern Front, the largest land theatre of war in history. Japan, which aimed to dominate Asia and the Pacific, was at war with the Republic of China by 1937. In December 1941, Japan attacked American and British territories with near-simultaneous offensives against Southeast Asia and the Central Pacific, including an attack on the US fleet at Pearl Harbor which resulted in the United States declaring war against Japan. Therefore the European Axis powers declared war on the United States in solidarity. Japan soon captured much of the western Pacific, but its advances were halted in 1942 after losing the critical Battle of Midway; later, Germany and Italy were defeated in North Africa and at Stalingrad in the Soviet Union. Key setbacks in 1943—including a series of German defeats on the Eastern Front, the Allied invasions of Sicily and the Italian mainland, and Allied offensives in the Pacific—cost the Axis powers their initiative and forced it into strategic retreat on all fronts. In 1944, the Western Allies invaded German-occupied France, while the Soviet Union regained its territorial losses and turned towards Germany and its allies. During 1944 and 1945, Japan suffered reversals in mainland Asia, while the Allies crippled the Japanese Navy and captured key western Pacific islands. The war in Europe concluded with the liberation of German-occupied territories, and the invasion of Germany by the Western Allies and the Soviet Union, culminating in the fall of Berlin to Soviet troops, Hitler's suicide and the German unconditional surrender on 8 May 1945. Following the Potsdam Declaration by the Allies on 26 July 1945 and the refusal of Japan to surrender on its terms, the United States dropped the first atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima, on 6 August, and Nagasaki, on 9 August. Faced with an imminent invasion of the Japanese archipelago, the possibility of additional atomic bombings, and the Soviet entry into the war against Japan and its invasion of Manchuria, Japan announced its intention to surrender on 15 August, then signed the surrender document on 2 September 1945, cementing total victory in Asia for the Allies. Blatantly Partisan Party Review VI (federal 2022): Australian Progressives
Running where: ACT and VIC in the Senate; the Divisions of Ryan (QLD) and Sturt (SA) in the House of Representatives
Prior reviews: federal 2016, federal 2019
What I said before: “Put broadly, the Progressives advocate for all the issues that tend to get a favourable run on much of the left, not to mention some of the more socially liberal, climate-aware folks on the centre-right.”
What I think this year: I thought this party would not meet the new membership threshold as I’m genuinely not sure who or where their voter base is. The constituency they are trying to talk to is already listening to similar but louder voices. The party clearly recognises this because they have a FAQ with questions asking how they differ from the ALP and the Greens. On the ALP front, the Progressives go for some both-sides hogwash that “both employers‘ and workers‘ rights are equally important” (spare me! I do not want a party of bosses!). As for the Greens, the Progressives struggle to explain how their attitude towards the climate differs from Green Party principles in any substantive way. As best as I can tell, they think they are able to incorporate evidence rather than opinion more effectively than the Greens? It is a very poor pitch to win over Greens voters.
The biggest topic on which the Progressives appear to be campaigning this year is a federal ICAC. When I loaded their webpage I briefly thought I had accidentally landed on the page for the Federal ICAC Now party, because that very phrase appears in capital letters as the first thing you see. It then scrolls through other headline policies, such as an ambitious target of net zero emissions by 2030: the Progressives oppose any new licences to mine fossil fuels, seek electrification of the transport grid with renewable sources (and unlike some electric car stans, they emphasise the important role rail must play here), and note that agricultural policy requires careful consideration to maximise the sector’s potential to contribute to positive change and protect biodiversity. I like their boldness here.
Their policies on poverty and homelessness include support for a Universal Basic Income and social security payments above the Henderson poverty line, as poverty activists have been demanding for some time now. Some of their tax policy is rather vague and it’s not clear how all of it would work or whether their proposals for reform will actually cover the policies they propose. The Progressives will not, for instance, support any tax bracket over 50%, so even the mega-rich will not be taxed more than 49.99% on, say, any personal income above a million dollars. Other policies include greater funding and independence for the ABC and SBS, abolition of the cashless welfare card, and a treaty with Indigenous peoples.
In general, the Australian Progressives tick the boxes for the urban centre-left but there is no distinctive attribute that makes them stand out. In particular, if you are already voting for the Greens, the Progressives do little to suggest you should preference them higher. And if you are a socialist (like me) or a communist, they go out of their way on the FAQ to tell you that “communist and state socialist ideologies failed to translate into social, economic and political progress and achievement”. This is nonsense; state socialism played a major role in the emergence of the modern welfare state. The famed progressive “social laboratory” of late 19th/early 20th century Australia and New Zealand was an outcome of state socialism—if, in the assessment of French observer André Siegfried, it was socialism sans doctrines.
Perhaps the main audience for this party is people in traditionally Liberal urban electorates who prefer the teal independents in the House of Representatives and are seeking a similar option in the Senate. If you are, say, voting for Zoe Daniel or Zali Steggall in the House of Representatives, then the Australian Progressives have a strong case for your first preference in the Senate. If you are, however, a longstanding Greens voter, or you have socialist inclinations, you might put the Progressives a bit later in your preferences.
My recommendation: Give the Australian Progressives a decent to good preference.

“Warplanes In New Dogfight Over Germany,” Toronto Star. September 26, 1939. Page 03. ---- Diplomatic Moves Accompany War on Land, Sea and In Air ---
Over Germany today airplanes were reported engaged in a furious battle, accompanied by the bursting of anti-aircraft shells, not far from Basle, Switzerland. It is thought German craft may have intercepted another raid similar to the bombing raid the precious night on Friedrichshafen. While Warsaw still held out, while French troops repulsed a night attack and continued shelling Siegfried Line fortifications on the western front, and while more ‘naval firing’ was heard off the coast of Norway, behind the active war scene many diplomatic moves were being made. In Moscow, Turkey’s foreign minister is said to be seeking a four-way agreement to guarantee the frontiers of Russia, Turkey, Rumania and Bulgaria.
