Book Delivery
Fenrys x reader
A/n: I haven't written for Fen in so long and he's literally one of my favs from ToG. He deserves happiness after everything he's been through
Warnings: none
Tumblr media
Fenrys watched from the balcony as Aelin walked you through the castle gates. He lets out a dreamy sigh as you throw your head back from laughing at something the queen said. Fenrys was so lost in his little fantasy land he missed Rowan come to stand next to him.
“You feeling ok?” Fenrys jumps, backing away from the railing and clutching at his heart. “Good gods! Don’t do that Rowan!” The king couldn’t help the shit eating grin that spread across his lips. Rowan looks out at your retreating figure as you leisurely walk back to town. “Aelin thinks you two would make a great match.”
Fenrys lets out an annoyed huff, taking his piercing gaze off of Rowan and watching you again. He was always so charming and smooth when it came to talking to females. For some reason when he tried speaking to you Fenrys always made a fool of himself. He either tripped over air or fumbled with his words before excusing himself. There was no other way to say it, Fenrys is in love with you.
How could he not be? You’re so kind and intelligent and beautiful. Fenrys can’t help but feel butterflies in his stomach when you’re around.
A week later - on the day you usually visit, Fenrys noted - Aelin called him into her office. Striding through the open door Fenrys stopped before her desk, sketching a bow before standing with his hands behind his back. “What can I do for you?” Aelin gave him a smile that told Fenrys she was scheming. Fenrys mentally rolled his eyes, waiting for Aelin to tell her plan.
“I need you to do me a favor.” She said sweetly. “Nothing crazy, just an errand that I can’t get to today.” Fenrys nodded. “What kind of errand?” The queen’s smile became toothy and far too happy looking for his liking. “Can you go to y/n’s store for me and pick up the book she set aside for me?”
Fenrys felt his heart stutter in his chest. He had never been to your store. He had avoided it at all costs after the second time he made a fool of himself in front of you. “Erm…” He had to answer quickly before Aelin turned this into a command and he no choice. Not like he had one anyway. If Aelin already thought you two were a match the whole court must know by now. And Fenrys would never hear the end of it from Lysandra if he never made a move.
“Yes.” He blurts out. “Excellent.” Aelin claps her hands in approval and stands to guide Fenrys from her office. “And no rush whatsoever. Take your time, enjoy a stroll through the city. Get some tea with someone. But don’t come back here without my book.” She said sternly before shutting the door on him.
Upon entering the bustling city Fenrys found himself taking the long way to your shop. Inevitably he found himself standing outside your shop, dreading how he would mess up this conversation with you. Inhaling deeply through his nose and out through his mouth, Fenrys pushed open the door to your shop.
The bell ringing above his head caught your attention immediately. You rushed to the front of the store, your arms full of books. Your eyes widen in surprise at the tall male in the middle of your small book store. “Hi,” you say cheerily, “Fenrys, right?” It took all of his training to keep calm. To keep the butterflies from swarming his insides.
“Y-yes. Yup, that’s me.” Dear gods he hoped Lorcan would show up and stab him.
Then you did something unexpected. You giggled at him. It wasn’t a pity laugh, you genuinely giggled. Fenrys smiled at you. Realizing you looked like you were about to drop the stack of books in your arms Fenrys cleared the space between you, reaching his hands out to help. “Can I take these for you?” “Oh, yes. That would be great, thank you.”
As you handed over half the stack Fenrys noticed your hands were shaking. If it was because of him he wouldn’t be able to live with himself. The last thing he wanted to do was scare you. You cleared your throat before speaking again. “Can you put them on the front counter?” “Of course.” You give him a small nod and lead him to the counter.
After putting the books down you nervously fiddled with your hair, glancing at Fenrys every other second. You felt like you always messed up when you spoke to him. That awkward laugh would always leave your lips and you always forgot where you were going when you bumped into him in the castle.
Clearing your throat you finally look make eye contact. Maybe that’s too much eye contact, you think to yourself. Fenrys isn’t shying away though. If anything he’s looking at you with the same shy, unsure intensity.
An awkward moment of silence passes between the two of you before Fenrys finally remembers why he’s here. “Aelin sent me to pick up her book. She said you had it set aside for her.”
The realization clicked in your eyes and your cheeks redden. It was silly to think he was there for you. Pulling the book from the shelf behind you and turning back to Fenrys you give him a small smile, hoping it didn’t look as sad as you felt. “Here you go.” His fingers brushed against yours. You felt a warmth rush through your body at the soft touch.
Your cheeks heat even more as you bite back your smile. Fenrys takes the book giving you a reassuring smile. “Thanks,” he says softly. “You’re welcome.” He nods and turns to leave. Fenrys cringes at himself, squeezing his eyes shut.
He stopped with his hand on the door, thinking screw it. Marching back up to the counter Fenrys takes a deep breath. You look up at him with bright curiosity in your eyes. “Would you like to go out to dinner with me?”
You nod your head excitedly. “I would love that. Is tomorrow night ok?” “Absolutely.” You give him a bright smile. Taking out a pen and paper you write down your address for him. He takes it happily and practically skips out of your store back to the castle.

Well you know I always love me some Lorcan. I was thinking about dad Lorcan the other say holding his tiny baby for the first time?
Or with Fenrys him surprising you with a puppy like Fleetfoot
I got lots of little headcannons
Mmmm it’s been a hot minute with Lorcan. Miss that hunk of a male… and also you know that your requests are always welcome! ✨
Squish
Yeah, in Lorcan’s books babies and him don’t work together. Just can’t be in the same sentence. Shouldn’t be. So when you fall pregnant he is mortified. In awe of your body. With you growing a new life but so scared that he had something to do with that. It’s not about the responsibility. Not even about the fact that he doesn’t deserve it. But the idea of someone so small depending on him.
So when the little bundle of joy finally was born. Lorcan did everything but touched her. He was by your side. Bringing you things you might need. Things the baby might need. He laid by your side. Helped you hold the baby while you fed her. But he didn’t reach out to hold her. Lorcan watched her. Following her every move. The pattern of her breathing.
“You should do skin-to-skin with her”, you slowly set up, reaching for a glass. Lorcan was about to step in to help but you stopped him, “I can get that, you get our girl”. And it’s as if you had said something that had crumpled his whole world. “Lorcan”, you called out softly, “You can do it, my darling”. He swallowed thickly, turning to the crib.
“What is it? You’re having second thoughts?”, you said quietly and Lorcan instantly shakes his head. “I just, I’ve never held a baby”, he breathed out, “Plus, I don’t know how to be gentle”. You carefully got out of bed, slowly walking closer to the crib, “That’s not true. You hold me constantly and you are more than gentle”. He wanted to argue but you dipped slightly, picking up a still-sleeping babe.
“Sit down and relax”, you muttered, rocking the girl in your arms. “I can drop her”, he argued back. “You’re sitting down, my love”, you reassured him. “Squeeze her”, “All you’ll have to do is put your palm on her back”, but his body still looked ridged. “What if she observes all of my dirty… I haven’t showered, yes”, Lorcan was about to jump up when you pressed your palm to his shoulder, “You love her a lot that’s why you’re panicking but it’s okay, she is tougher then you think she is”, you smiled down at him, cupping his cheek, before reaching to hand him the little girl.
“Y/n”, he said in a way higher pitch, enough to make the girl frown slightly in her sleep. Distance him and leave him no other way around holding her. “You also should breathe, baby, your lungs are working”, you laughed slightly at him all panicked like that. “What if…”, he started but you quickly cut him off, “Look at that little smile”, Lorcan looked down quickly. And it was true her chubby cheek was squished against his chest, a lazy smile on her face as her tiny palm pressed against her chin.
“I think she’s excited that daddy finally showed up”, you brushed your fingers through his hair. As if on cue she let out a satisfied sigh, earning a slight chuckle from Lorcan. “All this time she was fusing around because she was looking for you”, you watched his eyes soften as Lorcan carefully brushed his finger over her cheeks. “It’s really… Calming”, he muttered. “To hold her?”, you asked softly sitting down by his side as you rested your head on his arm. “Yeah, she’s so warm and so soft”, Lorcan mussed, “I don’t want to let her go”, “Good because I doubt she wants to be apart from you”.

pspspsps people who are interested in Forgotten Realms devils have you heard the good word of Brimstone Angels, an excellent series by Erin M Evans that has two tiefling protagonists that are sisters raised by their dragonborn dad who adopted them, and covers Nine Hells hierarchy stuff, what it means to be a devil, life as a tiefling during a specific time period, and ALSO features a specific dragonborn culture?
Cause here's my recommendation, you should read it, it's fucking good actually.
Farideh made herself keep smiling, as if she couldn’t hear Criella’s implication that she ought not to have the book in the first place. “From Garago,” she said, naming the wizard whose book it was. “He lends books to Havilar and me sometimes.”
“Havilar and I, dear.” Farideh bit her tongue as Criella continued. “And where is your sister?”
“Inside, probably,” Farideh said. Criella pursed her lips, and the younger tiefling quickly added, “I haven’t seen her in some hours. She’s likely with Mehen.”
“Does Mehen know you’re borrowing magic books?” Criella asked.
Farideh turned it over and opened it to show the frontispiece. “It’s just a history book.”
“The Legacy of the Skyfire Emirates in the Calim?” Criella said. “What has you so interested in there of all places?”
Far, far to the west, other tieflings sometimes joined the fiery efreets in the Calim Desert in their perpetual war against their enemies, the djinns of the air. Criella didn’t have to say another word—Farideh knew what she was implying: Why was Farideh reading a book about rogue tieflings who aided monsters and known slavers? Didn’t Farideh understand that she—just like everyone else descended from devils and fiends—had to know her place, to stay safe somewhere like Arush Vayem, to be quiet and unnoticeable?
Or did Farideh want to be the sort of tiefling who made life hard for the rest of them?
“He mentioned them,” Farideh amended. “It seems like such a silly thing, don’t you think? For so many hostilities to range around something as unchangeable as one’s nature?”
Criella’s smile vanished altogether. “Ah. Is that something else Mehen has taught you?”
Farideh flushed. “That … the djinn shall always be djinn?” she said as innocently as she could, but her pulse raced. It had been too near to admitting there was something like fear lurking in herself. That the lines of descent that linked her to some long ago and faraway fiend were more powerful than anything she could affect. “I believe that’s why they’re called elemental,” Farideh added.
“Of course,” Criella said, but already she was studying Farideh as if there might be some sign of her true nature unfolding. Farideh blushed harder. Any of the human villagers would find Criella’s scrutiny too subtle to notice. But Farideh’s eyes were like Criella’s—she knew the shifts and flickers of a tiefling’s eyes. Criella wasn’t trying to hide her disquiet.
Farideh longed to tell Criella that she knew. That she hated it. That it was worse coming from someone like Criella, who was a tiefling too. Who had gotten the same scrutiny from someone else when she was Farideh’s age. Who had cut off her horns and clubbed her tail because of those looks and run away to Arush Vayem, a community of tieflings, dragonborn, and anyone else who wanted to disappear. ----
His path crossed a balcony that overlooked the Court of the Sixth, and Lorcan paused a moment. The archduchess herself perched on the throne, carved from the ivory that had been her predecessor’s teeth, her batlike wings curved around her like an icon’s niche. Coppery skinned and dark-haired, Glasya made Rohini look common. Glasya made everything look common. If corruption had a form, it was Glasya, and not a soul looked upon her that didn’t feel the urge to throw itself headlong into that corruption. She radiated like a star and she swallowed up the light around her. To look upon Glasya, Lord of the Sixth and Princess of the Hells, was a special sort of madness.
---
“His destruction would benefit many,” Ilstan said. “It would be a boon to us all, and—”
“Is he like Shar?” Farideh asked. Ilstan frowned at her. “Dahl told me once you worship Shar when grief overtakes you. You give her a little honor so that she eases the sadness through your life. That the evil of Shar is that she’ll try to pull you down into that darkness, to make you stay. Is he like that?”
Ilstan shifted uneasily. “One might say so.”
“Have you given him worship then?”
“I’ve … You can’t ask me that.”
Perhaps, but Farideh could picture it: you pray to Asmodeus in the dark, for protection from the darker things, from the darkness inside you, for the blindness of other gods to the sins of your heart, for a silver tongue and a weight on Kelemvor’s scales, come the day. Freedom from consequence.
Asmodeus is the god of easy paths, Farideh thought. A god of happiness, as he says it.

Tear In My Heart
The gritty scent of cigarette smoke was the first thing Lorcan noticed when he entered the bar.  Being this far out in the middle of nowhere Colorado led to no one caring about enforcing the law about indoor smoking, especially not the owner.  Mort never seemed to care about that sort of thing and it showed.  Lorcan doubted any sort of deep cleaning would ever rid the place of the stench so there was no use banning smoking.  Especially not when it was accompanied by the sharp tang of alcohol and vomit.
Unfortunately, there was nowhere else to get a decent drink around here unless you sat out on your porch with your own.  And even Lorcan didn't drink alone.
But there was another reason to come to the bar.
Eighties rock played through the speakers adding to the grungy atmosphere.  Dim lights over the counter set everything in an orange haze.  Even the neon lights of the different beer logos and other paraphernalia didn't add anything.  Two pool tables sat in one of the back corners along with a dart board.  No matter how few people were seated at the bar or various tables, it always felt overcrowded and tonight was no different.
All Lorcan focused on, however, was the woman behind the bar.
Her black hair fell around her shoulders in loose waves, framing her face.  He'd always found her beautiful, striking really, with her onyx eyes and pale skin, that sarcastic twist of her lips when she made a quip.
She hadn't noticed him yet, which was good, he didn't need to be caught starting.  Instead, she was focused on pouring out a drink for the man across the counter from her.  She laughed at something he said, though he didn't know what.
Lorcan felt his own blood heat at that and he strode across the hardwood floor in just a few quick steps.  When he approached the bar, Elide finally noticed him and a smile lit up her entire face.
"Well, well," she said, sliding the drink to the other customer.  "If it isn't Salvaterre."
"Lochan," he said.  He took a seat a few stools down from the other man.
"Let me know if you need anything else, Dan," Elide said to the other man.  She moved down the bar until she reached Lorcan.  With her arms crossed she leaned against the polished wood so she could properly examine him. "You look like hell."
Lorcan rolled his eyes.  It was true enough.  This past week had been miserable.  The small shop he ran had been struggling a bit and things at the ranch were not better.  It shouldn't have surprised him, things always slowed down this time of year, but summer had been slower as well.  And then there was the fact that he had feelings for the girl he could never have.
"I always look like this," he said.  And because he was a bastard, he leaned forward, drawing closer to her.
"Yeah, you should do something about that," she said.  Her endless black eyes stared directly into him as though she could see to his very soul.  Then with a laugh she pulled back. "You want your usual?"
"Yeah, sure," he said.  He watched her go as she turned for a new glass, a bottle of whiskey.
Elide had always been the sort of woman he knew he could never have.  She was good, first off.  She came from a good family with a good background.  She'd graduated high school with honors even though she had pretty bad dyslexia.  Then when her dad got sick she'd dropped out of college and left everything to move back home and help her mom out with bills by working at a crappy bar that probably doled out even crappier tips.
As she assembled the drink she glanced over her shoulder at him. "Just you tonight?"
"Nah, the twins'll show up eventually," he said. "And Rowan if he can drag himself away from another fight with Galathynius."
Elide snorted a laugh and she turned back to him with the drink. "Aw, upset your best friend actually has a life?"
"You know how annoying that woman is," Lorcan groused.  He accepted the drink.
For the last year and a half, Aelin had been working at the Whitethorn ranch as a trauma specialist in youth and children for kids needing help in various forms of therapy.  Rowan had inherited the business from his parents and for some reason thought it was a good idea to keep it running.  Even if he and his lead psychologist did not get along.
"Yeah, that's why she's my best friend," Elide said drily.  "She's a good person."
Lorcan doubted that but he'd shut up.  There would be plenty of other chances to put his foot in his mouth tonight.
"I'll take your word for it," he said instead.  He took a long drink, ice clinking gently in the cup.
"Well I am a very reliable source," she said.
And then she was gone to fix another round for a couple at one of the far tables.  Lorcan watched her go, unable to look away from the sway of her hips or the sliver of skin that peeked out between the edge of her shirt and her jeans.
He only managed to tear his gaze away when the door of the bar opened and Fenrys Moonbeam entered.  Lorcan knew it was him without even looking because Fen, annoying as hell, always made sure his presence was known.
"Lochan!  How's it going?" Fenrys called, looping over to Lorcan.  Behind him was the more subdued Connall, eyes glued to his phone.  Lorcan had the sneaking suspicion that Connall was about to start dating someone.  But being who he was, wouldn't talk about it until it was an actuality.  Even quiet and distracted, Connall still managed to balance out his twin.
"Hi Fenrys," Elide called back.  She kept with her current task of drink refills and checking the kitchen on a food order.
When Fenrys dropped into the stool beside Lorcan he smacked a hand on his shoulder.
"You know you're getting obvious, right?" Fenrys asked.  "What's this?  Three nights in a row?"
"He's not that much of a psychopath," Connall spoke, he dropped into the seat on the far side of Fenrys. "He puts a day between the visits."
"Shut up," Lorcan growled.  He took another sip of whiskey, relishing in the bite as it slid down his throat.
Somehow, in some pathetic and sad twist of fate, his friends had learned of his crush on Elide.  He blamed it on a night a few months ago involving too much tequila and spur of the moment round of truth or dare.  It was pathetic enough that he was a thirty-year-old man playing truth or dare but to follow that up with the admission of having a crush?  Pathetic.
He really had to get a life.
"You should make a move 's all I'm saying," Fenrys said.  He snagged a half-filled bowl of pretzels from down the bar and dragged it closer so he could snack.
"He's right," Connall added, finally looking up from his phone. "She's not going to stay single forever.  I heard Archer Finn wanted to ask her out."
Lorcan couldn't help his scowl.  Finn was best described as being a player.  One night stands, ghosting, playing games.  He wasn't a good person.  It was the one thing he could agree with Aelin Galathynius about.  He certainly didn't deserve to even talk to Elide.
"Yeah, the scowl's real convincing about your feelings," Connall said.
"Archer's an ass," Lorcan said.
Fenrys laughed. "So are you and she still talks to you."
Lorcan kicked his chair. "Shut up."
"Man."  Fenrys shook his head, brushing his blond curls from his eyes. "You've been obsessed with her for years.  At this point it's your own fault if she gets picked up by someone else."
"I'm not--" Lorcan began.
"You have her shifts memorized," Connall said, "know her birthday, her mom's birthday, dude you got her flowers on her dads anniversary."
Lorcan was never telling Rowan anything ever again.
"Didn't you fix her car for free too?" Fenrys added, mouth full of pretzels.
In the last five years of knowing Elide, having moved to this town on a whim after school, Lorcan had indeed done all of those things.  There had just been something about Elide and the first time he'd met her.  It had been at this very bar, just a few months after her dad's passing.  He hadn't been in the best of moods, admittedly that was usual for him, and she'd called him out on it.
Their friendship slowly developed from there where he'd learned all those things and more about Elide.  He'd been in love with her as long as he could remember.
He couldn't say anything of course because he was Lorcan.  He was the town miscreant who usually stayed on his property unless it was to come in for a drink.  He managed the stables for the Whitethorn ranch and ran a side mechanic shop.  Really, the jobs weren't stable and would likely only get worse from here.  His father was an alcoholic, his mother gone since he was eighteen--he wasn't good enough for someone like Elide.
"She's going to figure out you're in love with her eventually," Connall said, "and what are you going to--"
Connall abruptly cut off with a rather colorful curse and Lorcan felt his blood freeze.  He abandoned his drink and spun in his stool to find Elide standing behind them, half empty tray of drinks and plates in her hands.
Her eyes were too wide and her lips parted in shock.
"I-" Her gaze bounced between the three of them before settling on the floor. "I'll be out with drinks in a minute."
She dropped the tray on the nearest table and immediately left through the front door of the bar--not through the kitchens.
"Hell,” Lorcan muttered.  He stood and punched Fenrys' shoulder for good measure. "Thanks for that."
"Connall's the one that actually said it!" Fenrys shouted.
Lorcan ignored him and launched himself out and across the bar to the door.
The cool air of the night immediately washed over him, clearing his senses of the heady scent of the bar.  Overhead, a waning crescent hung in the sky with patches of stars filling the inky darkness.
He spun, looking for where Elide had gone.  He knew she was still on shift and wouldn't take off without a replacement.
It didn't take long to spot her.  She'd walked down the length of the sidewalk outside the bar a few yards away.  Overhead, a streetlamp burned with pale light, illuminating her as she paced with quick, uneven steps.  She tugged one hand through her hair, holding it out of her face as she muttered under her breath.
When Lorcan's boot scraped on the ground, she looked up.  Her eyes were still wide and shock remained cleanly written on her face.  Lorcan kept enough distance between them so that if she really wanted she could skirt around him and head back to the bar, but close enough that he could reach out to her too.
"How much did you hear?" he asked, because really that's all he really cared about, how much damage control he needed to do.
"Enough."
If there was one thing that Lorcan knew about Elide it was that she didn't shirk away from a problem.  Even if she didn't like the situation or what may come with it.  Just like now.
Her dark eyes met his and, for once, he couldn't read her.  He'd gotten so used to knowing her little quirks that the radio silence unnerved him.  Or maybe that was how it was supposed to be.  Maybe he didn't actually know her and everything he thought he did know was more or less a facade, an illusion.
"Is it true?" she asked, voice soft and far more vulnerable than Lorcan was used to hearing from her. "Or were they just talking shit, I know how they are."
"I--" Lorcan scrubbed at his face, looking away.  He didn't know if he could tell her the truth.  If he did there was no guarantee of how she would respond.  And he didn't know if he could take the rejection.  Because something like this?  It would ruin any semblance of friendship between them.
"Lorcan."
She wouldn't let him get away with the silence or the pretending to ignore what she had heard.
"Do you really want me to answer that?" he asked.
"Yes."  The hard line of her voice drew him back to her.  With hands on her hips and the way her hair swept over one shoulder, Lorcan knew he wouldn't get away with delaying any longer.
The thing about it was that he didn’t like not being able to control the outcome of a given situation.  And he knew more than anything that there was no controlling Elide.  She was exactly who she was and would yield to no one.
Lorcan often put his foot in his mouth over so many things--especially when he had been younger.  It simply became easier to act.  Which was what he did then.
In two sweeping steps, he reached her.  Lorcan cupped her face in his hands, feeling how soft her skin was against his own calluses.  Her dark eyes gleamed in the streetlamp overhead, her full mouth opening in surprise.
Lorcan acted without thinking when he kissed her.  All he was really focused on was wiping that look of mixed hurt and confusion from her face--to show her exactly how he felt.
A part of Lorcan thought she would shove him away, but instead her hands gripped the front of his shirt, fingers digging into the fabric to pull him closer.  Her lips were soft against his, soft and warm and everything he’d imagined in all these years.  And when she exhaled a soft moan, Lorcan nearly broke at that sound alone.
One of his hands slipped into her hair, the thick locks like silk in his fingers.  His other hand went to her waist as he tugged her closer.  He could feel her warmth and her soft curves and all he could think that he wanted more.  More of her and more of what they could have.
“Lorcan,” Elide whispered against his lips.  She broke away only to catch her breath, her chest rising and falling heavily as she met his gaze.
He leaned in close enough to press his forehead against hers even though all he could think about was kissing her again and memorizing the way she felt against him.
“I’m in love with you,” he told her, voice soft.  He’d never said these words to anyone before and they felt strange on his tongue.  But he knew they were true and he knew that he had to say them at least once.  And it would only be for her.
He felt her tremble in his arms and listened to the sharp inhale of breath she made.  When she didn’t try and pull away from him, Lorcan felt a bit of hope rise in his chest.  Instead, Elide tilted her chin until her lips brushed against his.  The touch was barely there and hardly even a kiss but Lorcan swore he came alive with that simple act.
“It took you long enough,” she replied.  Her dark eyes stared into him with a spark of that same fire that had first caught his attention five years ago.
When she kissed him she held nothing back.  Her mouth was firm and insistent, her hands moving with determination until her fingers curled over his shoulders keeping right where she wanted.
And for the first time since he’d moved to this town, he felt like he’d finally come home.

Tandem Read
Empire of Storms:
Manon’s crown helmet sounds really cool
These mother fuckers don’t wanna recognize her as queen!?!? She literally can and will protect you from EVERYTHING. I hate men lol
No they cannot kill Asterin. It’s too early in the book I can’t take that
The way she burned that soldier from the inside out with just one little blow of breath was so cool
Omg Manon attacking her grandma!!!
I cannot belief Rowan told Gavriel about Aedion like that!!!! There were much more sensitive ways he coulda said that shit
So Aedion meeting his dad went well😂 “I didn’t expect to say any of that” lol Aedion and Aelin are really the same person huh
Okay Manon and Dorian is way hotter than Aelin and Rowan I don’t even care. Fight me.
Also I feel like if Aedion and Lysandra got more attention they could’ve been *chefs kiss but we get Elide and Lorcan instead. Don’t get me wrong there okay but I think would’ve preferred more focus on Aedion and Lysandra….
Okay I lied about that^
The liken?? Crazy! Aelins power goes stupid hard! I love how SJM describes her power and how she burrows down into it!!
Ansel is back and remind me why we trust her. She’s a known traitor…..
Excuse me??? Dorian or Aelin have to give their life!?!? No. NO!!!! IF SJM KILLS DORIAN!!!!!!!!!
THAT FUCKING BITCH MAEVE!! THEYRE MATES!! I knew it! I didn’t know how but I knew it! This also only gives me more hope for Azriel and Elaine in ACOTAR.
They’re married 😭😭
Tower of Dawn:
So Chaol is acting a little ableist and I low key hopes he learns to be a warrior from a wheelchair. I don’t see that happening but…..
So he’s gonna walk but what are the dynamics here I’m confused
The healer from the womb being found dead in the library is low key scary. I’m glad I didn’t read that at night hahaha
I stand by my statement from the last book that I don’t like Chaol and Nesryn together. They don’t spark anything in me but Nesry and Sartaq, Chaol and Yrene?? Now that intrigues me.
The acolytes gushing over Chaol, CUUUUUTEEE!!!
Him telling Yrene, ‘I didn’t want you to show them’ made me tear up
Ooooooo laying in that bed with her made his toes curl, me too Chaol
Damn Nesryns note was kinda cold. Her and Sartaq are kinda cute though. And like it do be an adventure lol
Chaol and Yrene one a date 🥹🫠
I don’t care about Nesryn lol. Hope she gets the bird people to fight in the war but 🥱
CHAOL IS WALKING my heart is soaring!! I loved everything about that. Yrene tugging him into a corner to make out! Yes!!!! She better get some dick on her birthday! That better be Chaols gift
Okay so the locket was precious but the birthday sex was better hahaha
When is Yrene gone meet Aelin!?!?
Omg SARTAQ!!! I fucking hate spiders wtf
MAEVE IS QUEEN OF THE VALG!?!? WHATTTTT???
Does Rowan know?? How could he not?
Yrene said “I thought the sex was good before but now that he’s fully healed !!!!” Good for you sis
It’s wife right. Her place is his wife. I stg
So while all his friends are facing war and death, Chaols falling in love and getting sloppy toppy lol good for him
Duva is the valg??? Didn’t see that coming
NOOOO CHAOLS BACK! My man got to walk fully healed for like a day! He only ran once
Aww him and Yrene are bonded like Rhys and Feyre!
Sartaq!!!! Omg Nesryn and Sartaq! That was so hot “never from you” 🫠
Chaol and Yrene are married 😭LADY WESTFALL 10/10
Unpopular opinion: tower of Dawn might be my favorite book in the series lol

Eleven hours.
He’d been pacing outside that door for eleven godsdamned hours. A track showed in the carpet. The outrageously expensive rug Aelin had carefully selected and imported from Eyllwe.
“Aelin’s going to castrate you for that, you know.”
Rowan whirled at the voice, finding Lorcan casually standing at the end of the hall, observing his brother warrior with arched brow.
“For the track?” He shrugged. “Either of us can fix it with a flick of a finger. What she doesn’t know won’t bother her.”
“You forget that she’s in no condition to forgi—”
“I know what godsdamned condition my mate is in, thank you, and if you came here to snark at me, you can shove it up your a—” His sentence cut off abruptly as Lorcan called up whatever godsdamned power he controlled and whisked the two of them out to the training yard.
“You prick! I’m supposed to be there!”
“You’re supposed to NOT be adding worry to your mate’s labor, dammit! And pacing your big ugly boots into her expensive carpeting isn’t the way to do that. Besides, I’m willing to bet you were practically screaming your worry down the bond, which really does absolutely nothing good.”
“At least I have big boots,” smirked Rowan, glancing pointedly down at Lorcan’s everyday shoes.
Lorcan’s face split into a positively feral smirk. “Five hundred years and you still can’t accept that my sword has always been broader."
Whatever few remaining threads Rowan had tying his self-control together snapped. And he launched himself at his brother with a growl of pure Doranellian rage. Lorcan smirked, dodged his barreling attack, and kicked the back of his knee. Rowan grunted, catching himself before he could fall, turned, and let his fists fly. Lorcan met him blow for blow, jab for jab, that infuriating smirk of his never fading. Through the mire of stress and worry clouding his mind, Rowan realized that Lorcan was giving him what he needed: an outlet for everything overloading his brain.
Thank me later, brother, the dark-haired male's vicious grin said.
Rowan grunted. So damn full of yourself whenever you think you did something useful. He brought his flagging defenses back up and landed a punishing hit to Lorcan’s stomach. The older male grunted, backhanded him, and kicked his legs out from under him. Swearing viciously, Rowan hit the dirt of the training ring with a thud. Lorcan tackled him, promptly rolled him over, and put him in a headlock. Pinned, he slapped the ground three times, yielding, a significant chunk of his stress gone.
“Who would have known that getting your ass kicked would help you not to worry about your lovely, strong mate?” Lorcan inquired.
“Says the one who knocked Elide up first.”
“Quite. And look how well that turned out.”
Rowan snorted a laugh. “Cal likes me best.”
Lorcan rolled his eyes. "You're just saying that because he hasn't shit his diaper all over you or spit up all over your clean fucking clothes."
"Ah, the perils of fatherhood."
Lorcan swatted him. "We'll see who's joking when--" Elide appeared from an upstairs window and motioned with her hand. Instantly, the two males were on their feet again, racing for the doors.
“Whitethorn?” Concern creased Lorcan's normally scowling face.
“What.” Nerves and anxiety nearly overpowered Rowan's better judgment; he really hadn't meant to snap at Lorcan like that.
“Gods above, calm down.”
“I am calm!”
“In that case, it’s time to go home. Aelin and your baby are—” Rowan was gone before Lorcan finished his sentence. Lorcan rolled his eyes and followed him into the manor.
Back in the queen and king's hallway, Rowan paused before the door leading into Aelin’s room. The sharp medicinal smells from earlier were gone. His wife’s scent still hinted at pain, but also…joy. Such unending joy. He lifted his hand to knock, but the door swung open before he could. Standing there, grinning, were Elide and Lysandra.
“Ready to meet your little princess?”
Rowan gulped, fighting back unexpected tears. Princess.
Yes, you big oaf, a daughter. Aelin’s voice. Exhausted, but not lacking that wry humor of hers.
Rowan crossed the room to his mate and the bundle of blankets in her arms. His daughter. Their daughter. Asleep, he couldn’t tell her eye color, but the little one's face—it was a tiny, perfect mirror of Aelin's own. He slumped onto the bed beside her, overcome with awe and fear and a hundred other emotions.
“May I...hold her?” His words were thick with unshed tears. Aelin smiled softly, tiredly, and placed their baby girl in his arms. Rowan looked down into the face of his daughter. And cried, overcome with the emotions of holding the baby he never dreamed of having. The first of many, he hoped. When his eyes cleared, he sniffled and looked to his mate.
“What are we naming her?”
Aelin's exhausted face lifted with quiet joy. "Alanna Evalin Whitethorn Galathynius."
Utterly perfect.

Sorry but I am really confused by your answer.
You are saying that Azriel can't stand being argued with and that the moment Elain says something back to him he'd shoot her down. Yet with Gwyn, who is known to be pretty brash, argumentative and rude at times, he would be okay? The argument doesn't make a ton of sense. If that's his personality, and he wouldn't be contradicted or argued with by anyone, including Rhys, Elain, Nesta and everyone else, why would that change with Gwyn? Whose character is very much all about 'I wanna do what I wanna do'.
He is arguing with Rhys and trying to disobey Feyre, he is arguing with Nesta, he wants to have it his way with Elain, and not have her scry, but somehow with Gwyn he'd be all for it? And agree to whatever she says.
Can you explain why?
It goes back to the difference in how Azriel perceives Elain and Gwyn and how stuck he stays in that perception.
We can use Mor for this example. Mor is Rhysand's #3. Mor is who Rhys calls when both Azriel and Cassian are dead. Despite her high position and capabilities, Azriel still didn't want her to search for Vassa because it was deemed too dangerous.
Azriel sees Elain as someone who needs to be protected. Both Nesta and Azriel didn't want Elain to search for the trove because of how it affected them when she was taken by the cauldron, completely ignoring that, in spite of Hybern kidnapping her a second time, Elain was still brave enough to stab him in the neck.
Elain was the one who was kidnapped and who underwent that experience, yet she was the one who wanted to search for the trove. Yet, this still wasn't enough for them to feel like Elain is capable of searching for the items.
Azriel sees Gwyn as a warrior.
Gwyn forged a friendship with Nesta because of how she stood up to her. Not only that, but she all but laughed it off.
“I doubt you’ll enjoy the way I speak to most people,” Nesta said. Gwyn snorted. “Try me.” Nesta looked at her from under lowered brows again. “Get out of my sight.” Gwyn grinned, a broad, bright thing that showed most of her teeth and made her eyes sparkle in a way Nesta knew her own never had. “Oh, you’re good.” Gwyn turned back to the stacks. “Really good.” She vanished into the gloom.
It feels like a throw back to how Nesta and Azriel became friends:
Azriel said coolly, “I don’t need to resort to threats.” The shadows coiled around him, snakes ready to strike. Nesta gave him a smile, holding his stare. “Neither do I.” She leaned back in her chair and said to Cassian, who was frowning at both of them, “I want to train with him instead.” She could have sworn Cassian went still. Interesting. Azriel coughed into his tea. Cassian drummed his fingers on the table. “I think you’ll find that Az is even less forgiving than I am.” “With that pretty face?” she crooned. “I have a hard time believing that.” Azriel ducked his head, focusing on his food.
We can go through most of the moments when Gwyn poked at Azriel, and Azriel being amused by it because it's not serious to him. We have yet to see a situation where Az and Gwyn don't agree with something seriously.
Personally, he won't agree to everything she says, but Azriel is going to have a hard time arguing against someone he personally trained and who holds the same Illyrian rank as him, especially when she won't take what he says personally.
Gwyn is also slowly morphing into the same "I do what I want to do." She was the one who first signed up, she was the one who brought up the Valkyries, she decided to stay put to deal with the males after her, and she was the one who pushed to reach the summit.
It's giving Lorcan and Elide.
Honestly, I feel like the time gap between their first encounter and their second works in their favor. Gwyn is someone who doesn't know Azriel's personal history. She knows whatever information she's learned about him from the outside, and it's mostly his heroic acts, and Azriel doesn't see Gwyn the same way he did Mor and Elain after he saved them.
I hope I properly explained this to you!

Look at Us Now — Ch. 6
Fic masterlist
This chapter is a little atypical, but we’ll get to our regular schedule next week. I almost rewrote everything last minute because this is a little too charged, but I hope you like it 😅
Warnings: language, incarceration
Word count: 3,7k
Tumblr media
Calling his students out for their little looks and whispers would only make things worse.
It was no surprise, considering how his night routine with Fenrys consisted on listening to all the gossip his friend learned throughout the day. News ran fast inside this base.
It took only one day for the entire Air Force to find out that Rowan was sent to the guardhouse for improper sexual conduct. It was only his fifth day, half of his sentence, and he was beginning to wonder if going to work was that much better than spending all his time in a cell. Rowan couldn’t stand all the curious or pitiful looks he was getting, and it was almost as bad as the shame he felt weighing down his chest.
“Whitethorn!” Lorcan barked, coming his way and scaring away the recruits around.
“Captain.” His salute was the same he’d do to any superior. They were friends, yes, but every step Rowan took had to be thinly calculated. He was doing everything by the book to regain his reputation.
“You are the dumbest person I’ve ever met.”
Lorcan had his arms crossed, eyes narrowed at him. Rowan nodded in agreement.
“You’ve told me that plenty of times over the last five days, sir.”
“I got the doctor’s report on this last class two days ago. Turns out Galathynius didn’t do her test because she’s pregnant.”
Rowan nodded, not saying a word and feeling his stomach drop. As proud as he was to become a father, he didn’t like the way Lorcan, his boss, was leading this conversation.
“And don’t you think it’s strange that, right after that, her uncle locked you up?”
Rowan just hummed in acknowledgement. He would find out eventually, but Rowan was saving this conversation for a time where Lorcan wasn’t so pissed at him.
“And don’t you think it’s even stranger that Galathynius showed up at the training center thirty minutes ago, demanding to speak with you, even though you were busy and your position leaves you with no privileges whatsoever?”
“Where is she?”
Aelin was here. To talk to him. All of his insides twisted and quivered with the realization. He didn’t know if she was here to yell or make peace, but he’d take anything after five days of not being able to go after her because of his fucking sentence.
“She’s at my office.” Lorcan gripped Rowan’s forearm when he mentioned to leave. “I’m trying to help, but you’re walking a very thin line here, Whitethorn. Do not. Do. Anything. Dumb.” His friend squeezed his arm, making sure he understood how serious this was. “Copy that?”
“Yes, sir.”
“I hope the kid puts some sense into your head,” Lorcan disclosed, but Rowan barely listened to him. He was walking as fast as he could, heart hammering against his chest each step he took.
When he opened Lorcan’s office door and recognized that silky golden hair, half of the weight on his shoulders vanished. The other part was still there, with promises of getting better or worse depending on how this conversation went.
“Did you read my letters?”
“All four of them.” Aelin gave him a tentative, close-lipped smile. “I would’ve come sooner if I knew about them. Lieutenant Moonbeam was delivering them at the wrong house.”
“Who did he gave them to?” His voice was taut and low as his mind ran the million different ways Fenrys could’ve got this wrong.
“Don’t worry.” She snorted. “He dropped them at my uncle’s, but I’m staying with my cousin now. Philippa gave them to me tonight, and I drove straight here.”
“Oh.” Rowan’s shoulders dropped in relief. It wasn’t Fenrys’ fault, then. Rowan was the one to give the wrong directions. “I didn’t know you moved.”
“It’s recent.” Aelin bit her lip. “I’ve been staying at Aedion’s spare room since Monday. It’s fine.”
Monday. She left her uncle’s house the day Darrow locked him up. Rowan wanted to ask if something happened, but he didn’t want to say anything that would risk his actual goal, that was getting on an agreement about the baby. Which he would start to work on now.
“I was a jerk the other day. I’m so sorry.”
“I know you are.” She seemed much calmer than when she left on Monday. It was probably because of Rowan’s clumsy groveling through desperate letters.
He was going to be a father.
That word couldn’t seem to leave his head, and he didn’t want it to.
Coming from a big, loud, loving family, of course Rowan wanted to have kids. At the right time. Which definitely wasn’t now, but he could work with that. He could make things right.
“Look, I—“ Aelin ran a hand through her hair as she considered her words. “You were an ass. I was too. I’m still bummed that was how things went out, but we have to get our shit together for the kid, right? I don’t want to be one of those parents who can’t decide on anything without a judge.”
His eyebrows raised. Aelin said some shit about not letting him see the child, but he just assumed she was angry because of his outburst. Suing her for custody never crossed his mind.
“I’m sure we can work things out without lawyers.”
The way Aelin’s shoulders dropped was so visible he wondered how much she tortured herself with this insanity. One more proof that she didn’t seem to know him at all.
“And I’m sorry I didn’t tell you about Dorian,” she continued when Rowan was too stunned to answer, “I—“
“Look, Aelin, you don’t need to apologize. I don’t care about that anymore,” He lied. But he’d get there sometime. ”I think we should focus on the baby from now on.”
“Okay.” She slowly nodded, processing his words. “I agree.”
“That’s why we should get married.”
It was their best option. Right now, Rowan had his hand and an unborn kid he would see, in the best-case scenario, half of their life. By marrying Aelin, he would have great sex and frequent contact with his kid. Ideally, a marriage needs love. Well, Rowan definitely wasn’t in love with Aelin, but marrying her was all a man could ask for. Objectively. Under his circumstances, at least.
“Absolutely not!” Aelin blurted. Then paused for a beat, blinking with her mouth ajar. “Rowan, we’ve known each other for only a few months. Why would you think that?” She asked in a quieter tone this time, but her eyes were still widened, staring at him.
“I-“ Rowan crossed his arms and stared at the wall beside him for a second. He swallowed. “I don’t wanna be a part-time dad,” he croaked out.
Aelin’s eyes immediately softened, and she reached out to squeeze his hand.
“We can figure this out in a more… modern way. But that’s very chivalrous of you.” She had a small smile on. “Considering how we started.”
“Okay.” He sighed. “I guess we’ll do things the modern way.”
“It’s not like you actually wanted to marry me.” She snorted.
“Yeah, sure.”
Well, Rowan didn’t know what to add. He was ten days without his phone or laptop to research anything baby-related, which was driving him insane, so the only plan he made was the one about Aelin.
“So we’re finally on the same page about this?” She asked after a moment of silence.
Putting everything that happened aside so they could focus on the baby. They could do that.
˜˜
“What brings you here today?”
Maisie.
The desk sign read Dr. Yrene Towers, PhD, but the only person he could think of while reading it was Maisie.
Aelin looked at him. He didn’t say a thing. She cleared her throat.
“Hey, Yrene.” Aelin said in a small voice, and Rowan frowned at the usage of the doctor’s first name. Maybe they knew each other from Elide, or this is just how therapy goes. He shook it off as Aelin continued, “Our daughter has been making these drawings.”
The therapist took the phone and zoomed in the images of the same drawings Maisie’s teacher showed them.
“You do seem angry in these.”
“I know. And I don’t think my daughter has been doing me justice. I look a lot cuter in real life.” Aelin pasted on a smile and leaned back in the chair, but Rowan immediately recognized her false bravado.
“That sounds like a job for an art teacher.” Dr. Towers sent them an empathetic smile. “What can I help you two with?”
“We need to stop fighting,” Rowan blurted. He didn’t even want to be here, but since he was, he wanted to get this over with.
“Okay…” the therapist nodded and quickly typed something on her computer. “So you’re telling me you live in a high-conflict co-parenting situation, and want to stop fighting because of your daughter?”
They both confirmed.
“I think it’s great that you’re seeking therapy for that, and it really shows how much you care about your little girl, but I can’t make you stop fighting.” Rowan’s stomach dropped. He knew therapy would be fruitless. Dr. Towers continued, “What I can do instead is help you treat each other with kindness and respect even when you disagree on something.”
“That’s perfect.” Aelin nodded.
Rowan didn’t feel so sure.
Basically, the doctor had just told them they had no salvation. They’d fight to the day they die, it would just be less ugly. Rowan sighed. Well, he did promise Aelin he’d try her way of fixing things.
“I can work with that,” he offered when both women were looking at him.
“Now, why don’t you tell me a little about yourselves?”
The therapist wanted to know all problematic parts of their relationship, right? Rowan assumed he should be honest.
“I guess it all started when Aelin lied to me.”
“Excuse me?”
“Are you going to deny that?” Rowan sighed, hating that they were wasting time reminiscing things from five, six years ago instead of solving their current issues.
“I have nothing to deny, because I didn’t lie.”
“Okaaay!” Dr. Towers interrupted. “I usually start with the communication techniques after the introductions are made, but I think we can use them now.” She turned to him. “Rowan… can I call you Rowan? Mr. Whitethorn? Captain?”
“Rowan’s fine.”
“Okay, Rowan.” She gave him an encouraging smile. “Can you tell Aelin your version of what happened, but without adding your interpretation or blaming her? Just the raw string of events.”
He did as he was told, explaining how she hid her relationship from that night at Aviator’s Ball to the pregnancy reveal. Aelin didn’t object.
“You did that step great,” Yrene praised. “Now, how did that make you feel?”
“Like shit.”
“Well, that’s a valid response, but-” The therapist fumbled about in a drawer, but quickly took out a thick sheet of paper. “Can you try finding one emotion here that matches how you felt?”
The paper she gave him had Emotion Wheel written, and had so many feelings in so many colors, it almost made him dizzy. Rowan took his time to find one.
“I guess I felt… frustrated.” Rowan set his jaw. They agreed to do this feelings thing, so fuck it. “Jealous, too.”
Rowan couldn’t decipher the look in Aelin’s face, so he focused on the therapist.
“Thank you for sharing that,” Yrene encouraged. “Now the last step of this communication tool is to identify your needs and communicate them—“
“I’m sorry.” Aelin was fully turned to him, eyes earnest. “I was sure you wouldn’t sleep with me if you knew. Still am, actually. That’s why I didn’t tell you, and then things snowballed. But I didn’t mean to make you feel like shit.”
Rowan nodded, hoping he wasn’t blushing. Yes, he accepted doing therapy, but he hoped he wouldn’t need to talk about his sex life to a stranger.
After that, they stumbled through the past five years of their lives, disagreeing only a few times because they were doing that thing where they talked objectively. He didn’t know how many therapy sessions would take if Yrene wanted to disclose their feelings at each event, and Rowan hoped she wouldn’t try that.
Even if it was in polished, sugar coated words, forcing themselves to speak out loud every mistake they made was enough. Rowan didn’t want to delve into how he felt about that as well.
“Okay…” Yrene trailed while she worked on her notes. Rowan had never seen someone type so fast on a computer. “Another thing I like to do in the first session is to set goals.” Her gaze swept between the two of them. “Apart from improving communication skills, is there anything else you’d like to work on?”
“Healthy boundaries.”
Aelin’s reply was way too fast for his liking. Of course she’d request that.
“How do you feel about that, Rowan?” The therapist asked.
“I don’t think that’s necessary.” He looked deep into Aelin’s smoldering eyes, defiant blue and green clashing together.
“Well, of course you don’t, Rowan. I don’t call you six times a day to check if you’ve managed to kill our daughter yet.”
He gripped his armchair a little too tightly. Of course Aelin would get a simple thing and twist until he looked like the bad guy.
“Aelin, listen to me—“
“No, you listen to me!” Despite her words, Aelin turned to their therapist. “You know how I feel about his calls!”
“But does he?” Yrene asked.
“You talk to her about me?” Rowan interrupted.
Aelin laughed, but it didn’t sound joyful at all.
“You have no idea the amount of shit I take from you, do you?” She paused for a second, the gold in her eyes ready to burn him. “Yes, Rowan, I do talk about you to my therapist. I talk about you so much I’m almost sending you the fucking bill!”
“You take shit from me?”
“Yes! And I still manage to respect you as a parent, unlike—“
“Unlike what? When did I ever—“
“You don’t even try to hide that you think I’m a shit mother!” She shouted with all the strength in her lungs.
Rowan froze, completely speechless by Aelin’s last sentence.
He had never even hinted that she’s a bad mother. Because he doesn’t think that, in the first place.
Yrene cleared her throat. “I think we should all take a deep—“
“I dare you to tell me one time I made you think you’re a bad mother,” he challenged, voice low and tight.
“Oh, you want it in chronological order? Or ranked by the one who hurt the most?” Aelin sneered. “Because this very morning you called to remind me to brush Maisie’s teeth. I mean, I must be a terrible mother if you feel the need to do that.”
“Oh, you’re hurt?” Rowan sneered. “You want to talk to me about being hurt? This is all your fault! I never, ever wanted to co-parent Maisie. You forced me to do this, and it’s fucking torture! If I have to go through this, the very least you could do is answer your phone and tell me if Maisie is letting you brush her teeth!”
“Okay!” Yrene cut in before Aelin could escalate that. “Why don’t we take a few deep breaths? In through the nose… hold on…. now out through the mouth… okay, you’re doing great. Once again…”
They both followed the therapist’s breathing exercise. Rowan could feel the boiling in his blood diminish every long breath, but it was still a small relief to his anger.
“Now, Rowan.” Yrene focused her gaze on him. “It’s really good that you’re opening up, this office is always a safe space for you to do that. It’s common to have concerns about your co-parent’s parenting style, but there are healthier ways to—“
“That’s not the case.” Rowan suppressed a groan. When did the conversation even get here? “I trust Aelin. I wouldn’t let my daughter stay with her if I didn’t.”
“How reassuring.”
Rowan ground his teeth together, trying to not let Aelin’s snark affect him.
“I just feel better if I know what’s going on.”
”Do you mind talking a little more about that, Rowan?” Yrene’s face looked open, understanding.
Rowan sagged in his chair for a moment, trying to collect his thoughts. The therapist looked like she already knew where he was going. Maybe she has mischievous, defiant little girls at home too.
“I always wake up thinking about Maisie.” He turned to Aelin, his voice was a lot calmer this time. ”And today I wondered if the cereal you gave her for breakfast is that one she loves that’s worse than sugar cubes. Then I wondered how you’re handling her teeth situation because she doesn’t like brushing her own teeth, but she needs to learn.” Rowan closed his eyes, ran a hand through his head and sighed. “Then I wondered if she had a tantrum, if you brushed her teeth for her, if she agreed to brush it herself. If she didn’t brush her teeth, will any of her classmates bully her for having bad breath? How would the teacher handle that?“
Rowan eyed the two women carefully studying him. Isn’t this obvious? This is how every parent’s mind works.
“So I decided to ask how brushing teeth went, otherwise next thing I know, I’m messing up my student’s reps because I’m pondering how many cavities I can afford to treat.”
Their therapist was nodding as she typed something on her computer. Aelin was looking so weirdly at him. It was a rare look, the one she wore now. It wasn’t anger, but didn’t look like pity as well. It made him want to take it all back.
“It seems like you’re constantly concerned over your kid.” He nodded, agreeing with the therapist. It isn’t a bad thing, it’s just a side effect of caring. She continued, “I think you’d benefit a lot from individual sessions, Rowan.”
“I’ll think about that.”
Yrene seemed satisfied with his answer, and he wondered if she knew he wouldn’t think about that. The amount of therapy he was currently getting was more than enough. In fact, he already felt drained from so much emotion talk. But then something clicked, and it made Rowan question his therapist’s methods even further.
“How come I’m the only one who needs more therapy? What about Aelin?”
The two women exchanged a look, and Aelin looked like she wanted the earth to swallow her whole. She took a deep breath and turned to him.
“I’m already doing individual sessions,” Aelin said as quietly as her cheeks were red.
Rowan froze for a moment with his mouth ajar, letting the words sink in.
“You’re in therapy!?”
“Well, it seems like you’re in it too!” She snapped, her index finger pointing around the office in a circle.
“No, this is different.” His mouth opened and closed. He still couldn’t believe Aelin hid this from him. “You should’ve told me that! Why didn’t you tell me—“
“Because I report to you about Maisie, not myself!”
“Still! Since when do you do therapy? What’s wrong with you?”
Yrene opened her mouth, but Rowan beat her to it.
“Respectfully. I’m respectfully asking what’s wrong with you.”
“There’s nothing wrong with me,” she spit out with crossed arms, but her burning red cheeks betrayed her stance. “I first started right after my parents died, then stopped. Started again in high school. I just start, stay until I get discharged, then come back when I feel like it. A lot of people do that, Rowan. It’s actually a good thing.”
Rowan didn’t say a word, he just stared, hoping he wasn’t gaping too much, trying to grasp all this new information.
Aelin is in therapy.
He didn’t even know she was struggling.
She had to be, right? No matter how she played it down, people don’t seek a therapist just because. Especially with how much it costs.
Was he the least attentive, sloppiest co-parent in the world?
Rowan tried to remember the last time he asked Aelin how she was before demanding something about Maisie, but nothing came to mind.
Perhaps that’s why she hates him so much.
Aelin and Rowan stayed there, just staring at each other, a mix of emotion floating between their eyes. Yrene cleared her throat when silence stretched for too long.
“Our time’s almost up. I think there’s a lot of space for progress here, if you’re willing to give it a try.”
If their session made the doctor feel positive, Rowan didn’t want to know what kind of shit that woman sees on a daily basis.
“We are.” Aelin’s answer came fast. Rowan nodded in confirmation.
“Very good.” Yrene gave them a small smile. “From now on, when you interact between sessions, I want you to try communicating how you feel about things, especially the ones you disagree with. And taking a pause before reacting if you feel like shouting, that’s an important one. Can you give it a try?”
They both agreed.
Do the feelings thing. Pause when he gets pissed off. It’d be an adjustment, but if other people could do it, Rowan was capable as well.
“Good.” Yrene typed something and focused back on them. “Do you mind if I give you one more homework?”
“Sure…” Rowan trailed, realizing that therapy was starting to look a lot harder than just attending weekly sessions.
“I think it’ll be good for you two to have quality time together.”
“What.” Was the only thing that came out of Aelin’s mouth. Rowan was stiff as a board.
Their proximity was the whole reason they ended up here. Spending more time with each other sounds like another disaster waiting to happen.
“You see, having fun together is like a savings account in a family. When something bad happens, it softens the blow. It’ll also be good for Maisie, so she can see her parents getting along.”
“How much quality time are we talking about?” Aelin asked, frowning.
“Could be as little as one hour a week. But it’s important that you try and be kind to each other, even it feels forced, so we can start new patterns.”
Rowan chewed the inside of his cheek, mulling this.
By spending time together, they could practice these communication skills. They could also change the narrative in Maisie’s head, making her think her parents get along even though they don’t. It was actually genius. No wonder Dr. Towers has a PhD.
“We can do that.” Rowan could barely believe his own words, but that’s how desperate he was.
When his gaze swept toward Aelin, she looked as determined as he felt.

Just Happy To See You
pairing: shadowheart x masc tav
words: 739
rating: T
-> An encounter with another Thorm and more Sharran practices has deepened Lorcan’s concern for a certain cleric back at camp.
Reading up more thoroughly on Sharran practices in the library of the house of healing had made Lorcan’s eyes twitch.
Malus Thorm had obviously been an intelligent man before he devolved into what Lorcan had seen, and his reading material thoroughly helped paint the picture.
He was grateful for once that Shadowheart had stayed behind at camp, which they neared expeditiously. He had no idea how she might’ve responded to the events that had just transpired.
An unfamiliar terror snuck into his heart at the thought of what Shadowheart’s future may hold for her. He’d never cared much before for the fates of those foolish enough to offer themselves up on a plate for so-called gods, but here he was, fretting. Fretting over someone who had no want for it, as she’d made quite clear when they entered this land.
His fingers curled around the hollowed acorn in his pocket as he thought of what to tell her regarding the day's events, if anything at all. He carefully relocated the acorn to his pack now that they’d returned safely.
Their group slowly disbanded when they reached their encampment; Karlach, Wyll, and Lae’zel each paved the tine of a fork with their paths to their respective tents for some reprieve from the incessant shadows.
And there she was. Green eyes aglow beneath her now overgrown fringe, a goblet dangling from her hand as she sat by the fire.
“You look a little worse for wear.” She commented as her gaze zeroed in on his approaching figure.
He could not find a response at the ready for her, not after the day he’d had.
“What? No smart remarks tonight? Do I have to do everything here myself? How about ‘I’m surprised to not find you on your knees for once, priestess’ or perhaps a simple blaspheme of my devotion?” She asked when he remained silent at her greeting.
Lorcan unbuckled his leather cuirass and set it aside as he knelt by her.
His shadow chilled hand cupped the softness of her face and he leaned in to press his lips to hers.
The kiss was brazen twice over. Once in its softness, a rarity in their moments of stolen intimacy, and twice in its lack of privacy. Though no one was paying them any mind, the kiss was still out in the open and not behind a closed door, tent, or in an otherwise secluded location.
She tasted like hot spiced wine, which was undoubtedly what had been in her cup. It had become a camp staple to help stave away the cold emptiness of this place.
“It has been a long day.” He whispered as he sat back on his heels after the kiss.
“But since you’ve missed my innuendos, perhaps you should venture to discover what I have for you in my pocket.” He said with an uptick of his kiss blushed lips.
Shadowheart scoffed but leaned in, a hand on his chest. Her empty goblet lay on its side behind them, quickly forgotten during their greeting.
“Whatever I may find I’m liable to set ablaze should it suit me.” She warned.
“Aye, but I think you’ll find something that does indeed suit you.” His grin widened.
“I’d better.” She said, only to be met with a quiet chuckle.
Her slender hands traveled over his body, smoothing the fabric of his tunic and feeling the folds of his leathers as she looked for said pocket.
She frowned a little as she fought to wriggle her fingers into the tight pocket and pull out what she’d found.
When she looked down at her palm her confusion only deepened.
“A ring?” She asked.
It was quite plain compared to other trinkets he’d draped on her in their travels, but as she held it she sensed it was indeed magical in some nature.
“Wear it. It’ll protect you. See, I’ve its mate, right here.” He held his hand up to show her the dark band on his finger.
“This isn’t trickery to entrap me in some fairy marriage, is it?” She asked wearily.
“And what use have I of a wife? No, I quite like our illicit couplings for now, darkling. Wear the ring all the same, please.” His voice softened at the conclusion of his request.
Without a word, she slipped the ring on her finger and looked away. In the glow of the campfire, a light blush warmed her cheeks.

"You stay right here and if Melba barks, shoot whoever is coming through the door. You've used my rifle before, so you know how. Don't hesitate." Lorcan didn't like leaving her alone in the cabin, but he wanted to go hide the Jeep in a turnout he knew was hidden back down the drive. The guys in Elio’s SUV already knew they were there, and this would keep anyone else from stumbling on them if they started checking out other properties since they never showed up at Einar’s family’s estate. It made no sense for both of them to go just to park the Jeep, so he was going to trust that the less than fifteen minutes he’d be gone would be safe for her.
"I remember." Meeri nodded in the almost pitch black of the living room, not sure if he could see her. Melba was laying at her feet as she stood and talked to Lorcan. They had completely unloaded the Jeep, the contents were just to the side of the door, waiting for the others to get there so they could decide where everything would go.
"Good. The guys should be here in a couple hours, they thought, but they could be closer than that, so if they pass me I'll let you know so that you don't shoot Einar. Kinda get the feeling you'd both hate me if that happened." He was trying to lighten the mood just a touch by teasing her. He took her hand and gave it a light squeeze. The four men had been soldiers since they’d gotten out of school, Knights to the Royal Family almost as long, but Lorcan still couldn’t quash the nerves he felt. They were without backup, Meeri was being hunted and someone else’s life was on the line if there were mistakes.
The guys had all known that Einar had been in love with Meeri for years, just no one was going to come out and say it. It was an unspoken thing, all of them respected and even kept teasing off limits. The seeming reciprocated feelings they had glimpsed earlier at Einar’s apartment meant she had probably been hiding her feelings for as long, most likely to protect him from her family. Lorcan considered her a little sister, and he was pretty sure Elio did as well. Tieran was the one no one knew quite what his feelings were. One day he’d be hot and the next day frigid. Lorcan just hoped including him in all of this wasn’t a mistake they’d regret later on.
"I wouldn’t hate you,” Meeri fought a laugh, “but I have a feeling it would make things extremely complicated. As if things aren't complicated enough suddenly, putting a bullet in him would definitely not help." There was a slightly nervous quality to her laugh that followed and Lorcan didn't miss it.
"Only complicated if you want them to be, sis. His feelings are pretty damn simple. You know I'm in your corner, whatever happens." Lorcan pulled her forward by her upper arms and kissed the middle of her forehead. "Now, I'm going to go hide the Jeep. I'll be right back." He lightly ruffled the side of her hair then headed out the front door. Time for getting all fucking sentimental later.
As Meeri heard the Jeep fire up, she went over and sat on the couch. Melba went with her and put her head in Meeri’s lap. As she waited for Lorcan to return or the others to show up, her fingers gently ran over the top of the dog's head. It was a gentle and repetitive motion that seemed to soothe both of them. The doberman might scare a lot of people, but having her sitting there on the couch with her actually made Meeri feel a lot safer and calmer.
The more she mulled over their conversation, the more Meeri knew Lorcan was right. Einar’s feelings towards her were straightforward. She'd known it for a long time but had feared acknowledging them or acting on her own. Her father was capricious on a good day and she couldn't risk losing the man she loved to him because he wasn't royalty, even if he was high born. Status only mattered to a point when it came to him. To her, it didn’t matter at all, but as in many things, what she wanted or thought didn’t matter at all to her father. In the end, her father had abandoned her where Einar hadn’t. That spoke loud and clear about who cared for and loved her more.
As Lorcan drove the Jeep back down the trail towards the turnout, he kept his eyes peeled for oncoming headlights. It was a full moon, so he’d killed the Jeep’s lights since he could see well enough to drive. Whether it was their three friends or soldiers hunting for Meeri, he wanted to give them as best a chance as he could of remaining hidden. He was well aware of the stakes at play. He and the other three men could bluff their way out of anyone who came along, but if Meeri was found she might not even survive to make it back to the city gates. There could be no mistakes.

Finally went through my following page and saw Lorain requests? I’m going to be here so much. Anyway I have an idea of like a soft fluffy lorcan bedtime routine thing. Soft lorcan is my weakness.
Right I need a strong scary fea worrier today
Tender evenings
Walking through the city streets you pulled your cloak tighter around your body. Today was a lot. You usually were able to go through the day with ease even with almost nothing going your way. It was rare for you to slip up or fail to flash someone a fake smile but today you just couldn't do it.
You wanted to blame the colder weather at first. Who truly liked the weather getting more bitter? Well, it was fun at first, sure, but now not even two weeks into the colder months, you were missing the sunshine. The lack of it only added to your cranky mood and not only yours it seemed.
You loved working for Aelin. You were just as aware of the necessity of political arrangements, meetings, visits, and other courtly nonsense. At times it was even fun to be able to have control over things like this. And finishing it off with a drink in a pub with Lysandra while you two laughed over how pathetic some of the males in the meetings that day had been would be more than enough to recharge your battery.
Today was a completely different story. You attended the meetings alone. There had been some unsettling decisions made by some members of different courts. Decisions that threatened your people. Decisions that threatened you queen and king and even if Rowan and Aelin were more than capable of defending themselves you still had your duties to carry out.
Just nothing had gone right. All you had all day were people shouting at your face. Throwing names and insults left and right. At first, you smiled through them. Smiled till the words began to sting and your mind had started to work against you. When you finally managed to get everything settled and make everyone agree on one thing it was way past the time you were supposed to have been back.
You didn't even bother to walk past the dining hall. The thought of seeing another breathing creature made your bones ache within. Plus, you knew that no owner would check the reports you had today anyways. So you slipped up the stairs to the chambers that you shared with your lover. Counting the steps till the mixed scent of both of you would feel your senses.
Lorcan. He was utterly unhappy this morning to part ways. He, Gavriel, and Fenrys were sent on their little adventure. If you could call that. Some people had to be watched and while the other two were brilliant fea worriers no one slipped through shadows more quietly than Lorcan.
"Don't miss me too much", you teased, flicking his nose playfully as you stood outside still waiting for the other two to show up. Lorcan's arms were loosely wrapped around your torso. "I give you an hour before you'll be tugging on the bond asking me to tell you that I love you", he chirped back happily, knowing from the way your mouth fell open that he was right. "Fine, fine I see how it is", you were about to cross your arms over your chest but Lorcan caught both of them in his hands. Bringing each of your plans to his lips before pulling you closer to him, so he could kiss you.
Truth be told you've been missing him ever since you two parented. It was hard not to. Lorcan was a part of you. His absence was hard to miss and you couldn't blame your heart for aching just a little. And it ached even more as you walked through the door realizing that your lover wasn't indeed back home yet.
With a deep sigh, you light the fire in the fireplace. Moving to the bathing chamber to fill up the huge tub with hot water. Knowing well that Lorcan would be as desperate for a hot bath as you were. Just maybe not as cold as you were. Considering that he was never cold, while your bones hover throbbed within you. It truly felt that the dampness of the day had settled deeper into your body than you had wanted to.
You weren't sure how much time had passed when you felt a familiar tinge in your chest. Turning your head to the side just as the door to your bedroom opened. Lorcan always did this. If he loved threatening people with his silent arrivals, breathing onto their backs, and squeezing that fear of anticipation out of them, he never came to you without announcing it first. He had made you jump multiple times beforehand. The second time results in you dropping the kettle with water in it. Luckily not boiling one but it was enough of a threat to Lorcan. Meaning that now anytime he was close you would feel this rush of warmth bubbling inside your chest.
His face was stone cold like it always was. No one could read his expression except for you. To you even his blank face had different emotions lingering somewhere and now you could tell that he was tired. Tired and annoyed. Meaning that something also hadn't gone the way it was supposed to.
"Talk to me", Lorcan threw his jacket over the armchair carelessly. Undoing a couple of buttons of his shirt as he walked closer to you. "I'm fine", you started but Lorcan knew this was a lie. He knew you better than you knew yourself most of the time and even if he failed to acknowledge that, his senses screamed at him that something was wrong. Not to mention that even if you closed off your side of the bond for better concentration his years of experience still managed to slip through.
"Maybe you can trick them, it won't work on me", the warrior stated firmly, letting his much bigger palms rest on your dainty shoulders. Fingers moving to work through the painful knots that had formed in your shoulders. You let your eyes fall shut. Welcoming the warmth that your lover's hands carried and the tender touch it never failed to provide you.
"Lorcan", you muttered, reaching for his palm. You couldn't let him do this. Because this would break through the wall you had built in need to survive today. Too many emotions were pusshed behind it. Letting them out would most definitely mean tears and crying was the last thing you wanted to do. Yet Lorcan didn't care. Even with your hands placed on his he still worked his fingers into your back. Slowly but surely feeling your muscles ease.
"I don't want to talk about it", admitting it felt weird but once you met your lover's eyes as you tilted your head back you knew that he understood. Lorcan gave you a light smile that in his true fashion was more of a grin, "You don't have to but when you do I will listen". Leaning in he pressed a loving kiss to your forehead before returning to his previous position.
You always loved how easy it was with him. How for the most part you didn't even need words. How much love he carried into little things that he did. He knew how you liked your tea, or how some foods mixing on your plate would weird you out. He knew how you needed silence sometimes just like Lorcan did. Being mated didn't mean that there were no boundaries. Yes, you two were one. But you had been two very independent and strong-minded individuals for decades. And as fun and fulfilling as it was to find your other half, your soulmate the desire to still be yourself and be able to find time to be with yourself still stayed a priority.
Your bottom lip quivered and Lorcan kneeled beside you instantly. He didn't say anything and in all honesty, he didn't need to. His hands rested on your thighs as he waited. If you wanted to be alone and dismissed him - Lorcan would go. Even if he wished to stay. But you didn't. Instead, you stretched your arms out, wrapping them around your lover's broad shoulders.
"Hold me...", you muttered out. Lorcan nodded. Pulling your body closer to his, arms looping around your back, putting pressure on your tensed back. To let your body know that he was there. To let your brain know that you weren't alone. Your fingers slipped up into Lorcan's thick black hair. Carefully undoing the tie holdings his hair away from his face. Just so you could run your fingers through it. Just so you can have that one more asset of him grounding you.
"I've got you, dove", he whispered into your hair. Placing delicate kisses onto your shoulder. One after the other. Each is followed by tender words of reassurance. "Just need...", you started, "I know and you got me. I'm right here with you", Lercan was quick to reassure you. Tugging onto your body a bit more so you would sit on his lap. It wasn't very lord-like to sit on the floor of your bedroom but Lorcan was far from caring as he wrapped you up in his arms, making sure you were comfortable in his embrace.
It had been so long till he had given instead of taken before he had met you. Lorcan didn't know the power of true loving until he realized that the spirits above have woven you just for him. Oh, how he tried to fight the odds of loving you. No way, there was no way that someone like you could ever love someone like him but here you were in his arms. Craving nothing more but to keep you safe and happy. Lorcan pressed yet another kiss against your temple letting his lips linger there a bit longer this time. Letting the calmness from within him flow through your body.
The fire was near to going out when you looked back up at your mate. "Hey, gorgeous", Lorcan said softly, brushing a strand of hair out of your hair. You only smiled up at him, going back to nuzzling into his chest. "I suggest a bath and then I'll grab you a plate from downstairs", humming at your mate's words, holding onto his shoulders as he stood up with no struggle, still holding you up in his arms.

Disneyland DILF
Summary: While on a family vacation to Disneyland, Elide discovers her husband Lorcan has been featured on the viral Instagram page ‘DILFS of Disneyland.’
When he claims not to know what a DILF is, Elide decides the best way she can explain it to him is to demonstrate what the F stands for.

“Come on Jack, look over here! Look at Mommy! Come on baby, just give me one good photo!”
Whoever coined the idiom “herding cats” to describe an impossible task should have instead used something like, “getting your toddler to look at a camera for more than one second for a halfway decent picture.” The latter, Elide decided, conveyed more of the frustrating nuance that people were bound to face, even if it was a bit too lengthy of a phrase. Who even had enough cats to herd anyways?
“Lorcan, can you stop distracting him for one minute, please? I really wanna get a picture of Jack with Pluto. And can you fix his hair?”
Her husband stopped whispering whatever he was saying to their son. He looked up at Elide with a frown.
“I’m not distracting him - I’m just telling him how better dressed he is than every other kid here.”
“Well, maybe don’t do that,” she cringed, as a middle aged woman wearing a pair of Mickey Mouse ears with a gaggle of similarly dressed children behind her shot Lorcan and Elide a dirty look.
“And I think his hair looks good like this,” Lorcan went on, slightly tussling his son’s dark hair. “It looks effortlessly messy and windswept. Classic.” Jack agreed, as he grinned and clapped his pudgy little hands at his father’s compliments.
“He’s two,” Elide deadpanned. “He’s not going to be on the cover of Baby Vogue.”
Lorcan hummed. “Is that a thing? It should be, and Jack should be on the cover -“
She sighed; she knew when she lost her battles with her husband, rare that it happened. “One, two, three -“
Quick as a snake, Lorcan turned himself and Jack towards Elide’s phone and gave their biggest grins for the picture: Lorcan’s a small uptick of the corners of his mouth, his long, dark hair swaying in the warm breeze, while Jack grinned toothily at the camera.
“Oh, that actually turned out pretty good,” Elide said, slowly walking over to show the picture to Lorcan. “And Plutos is in the background, so I guess that technically counts.”
“Pluto’s the dog, right?” Lorcan asked, settling Jack back in his stroller.
Elide looked at her husband exasperatedly. “Yes, Pluto’s the dog. I still don’t understand how you know so little about Disney. It’s like you grew up under a rock.”
Lorcan shrugged as they set off at a slow pace down Disneyland’s broad Main Street and into the heart of the park. “Growing up in an orphanage and joining the military at 18 doesn’t exactly lend itself to having a pop culture filled childhood.”
“Disney transcends pop culture,” Elide muttered distractedly, pulling up the Disneyland app on her smartphone. “I know I should have quizzed you on everything Disney, or at least made you memorize the map of this place.”
“Where are we off to next?” he asked, looking over her shoulder at the map pulled up on her phone.
“Where aren’t we going? Big day planned. Jack loves Tigger so I want to head over to the Critter Country area so he can meet him and get some pictures together. I think we’d all like the Jungle Cruise - can you double check I packed the noise canceling headphones? - watch the parade, hang around in Toontown, depending on how Jack is doing, then end the day by visiting Sleepy Beauty’s castle. That’s been on my to do list since I was a little girl.”
Lorcan arched an eyebrow. “Is this Disneyland vacation for him or you?”
Elide pursed her lips. “It’s for all of us, you giant twerp. But what do you want to do? I’ll hang back with him if you want to go on rides or visit the Star Wars area.”
“I don’t need to do anything other than be with you two. Just keep me fed and I’ll go wherever you tell me.”
Elide grinned. “Smart man. How about we head over to Adventureland for the Jungle Cruise? I think he’d like the animals.”
“Lead on,” Lorcan said, wheeling Jack’s stroller around and following Elide further into the park.
The Jungle Cruise was a hit. Lorcan strapped Jack into his front-facing toddler carrier and held him the entire time, making sure his headphones were on and pointing out the different animals they saw, to Jack’s delight. Elide should have spent the ride taking in the sights around her - this Disneyland trip was truthfully perhaps more for her than for their son - but she couldn’t help but let her gaze linger on Lorcan.
Devilishly handsome didn’t seem like it did her husband justice. Nearly seven feet tall, with shiny shoulder length dark hair, a perfectly symmetrical face, and rippling muscles that didn’t seem real, Elide knew Lorcan was a catch.
But what she adored even more about him was his personality: his quiet, understated humor, how loyal he was, his bravery, and his unending support for everything Elide put her mind to. He carried her weight  - sometimes literally - when her disability became too much for her and she struggled to walk even with her ankle brace on.
Best of all, he was an excellent father. Before Jack had been born, he’d confessed to Elide that he was scared that he didn’t know how to be a good dad and he’d do something to traumatically mess up Jack’s life. She didn’t believe that for a second; she had full faith in him, and told him that repeatedly. The first time Lorcan held Jack after he was born was the closest Elide had ever seen him to crying.
And now here he was, willingly walking around the capitalistic hell that was Disneyland, all so his wife and son could have a picture perfect day. What a lucky woman she was.
“I think he really enjoyed that,” Lorcan commented after they collected their stroller from the front of the ride. He decided to keep wearing Jack in his front-facing carrier - “He’ll be able to see things better that way,” he reasoned - and Elide wasn’t going to complain, especially since seeing Lorcan carry their kid around sent odd little flutters throughout her body.
“He did,” Elide cooed, re-fastening Jack’s little velcro shoes so he wouldn’t kick them off. “I got a good picture of him looking at elephants.”
“Good thing he didn’t seem to realize what the lions were doing to that zebra.”
Elide shuddered. “Yeah, maybe some parts of this ride aren’t the best for babies and toddlers.”
“Where to next?” Lorcan asked. “Try to find Tigger and then lunch?”
“Sounds like a plan,” Elide said, kissing Jack’s cheek and squeezing Lorcan’s hand. “Want me to take the stroller?”
“You navigate, I’ll steer.”
She quickly learned Disneyland was much larger than the little map on her phone made it look. By the time they found Tigger and took dozens of pictures of an excited Jack with his favorite character, and let him burn some energy on a Winnie the Pooh playground, Elide’s ankle throbbed with every footstep she took. She hobbled to a sitting bench and watched Jack go down a slide before running back up to go down again and again.
“How are you doing?” Lorcan questioned, sitting down next to her on the bench.
“I may have underestimated how much walking we were going to do today,” she admitted, leaning down to rub her ankle.
“Want your brace?”
She grimaced. “Maybe not right now. I’ll try to wait until after lunch. Speaking of, I think Jack’s getting hungry and tired - want to see if we can find somewhere to sit out of the sun?”
They found a shaded and relatively quiet restaurant in the New Orleans area, and Elide sat at the table and put on her ankle brace, waiting for their food, as Lorcan walked around with Jack in the picturesque square outside the restaurant. She watched them contentedly as Jack toddled over a short railing into a flower bed and stuck his entire head into a bunch of flowers. Rather than pull him out, Lorcan crouched down next to him and started pointing out different flowers to Jack.
Sighing happily, she took a sip of her mocktail and closed her eyes, leaning back in her chair. Besides her ankle, the day was going perfectly.
“Mama! Mama!”
She opened her eyes. Lorcan was walking towards her with Jack on his hip, a bunch of bright flowers, dirty roots and all, dangling from his fat fist.
“He was very interested in the flowers, and I told him how much you like flowers too,” Lorcan said, putting Jack in a high chair as he thrust the flowers at Elide.
“Oh Jack, these are perfect,” Elide gasped, fighting the tears that had welled in her eyes and taking the bright arrangement from her son. She leaned down to kiss Jack on a chubby cheek. “Thank you so much baby.”
“Seems I’m gonna have to do better the next time I give you flowers,” Lorcan grumbled. “Not sure how I’m gonna compete with a fresh Disney bouquet.”
“I’m surprised no one came and shooed you away,” Elide noted, wrapping the bottom of the flowers in a napkin and tucking them in the stroller.
“Oh, someone did,” Lorcan confirmed nonchalantly. “Especially when Jack tossed a bunch of tulips on the ground. They didn’t seem to like us damaging park property, or something.”
“Lorcan!” Elide admonished. “You didn’t make someone miserable over some flowers, did you?”
No, I just stood up and I guess they thought better about trying to yell at me. Besides, it’d be well worth making anyone miserable if it made you happy.”
“Aw. That is so sweet and threatening.”
He winked and gave her a small smile. “Anything for you.”
They took their time with lunch and by the time they finished, Jack had fallen asleep in his stroller. Deciding to let him sleep, they staked out a shaded bit of lawn and sat down to watch the parade from a distance. Full of energy when he woke up, they leisurely made their way over to Toontown and got in line for the steam train ride.
“I can take him for a bit,” Elide suggested, picking a bench in the back of the train so Lorcan wouldn’t block anyone out. “You’ve been handling him a lot today.”
“I got him,” Lorcan said, sitting Jack on his lap. “You just sit and relax.”
Her husband had apparently designated himself as being on ‘Jack Duty’ all day, as he refused to let Elide even push his stroller or hold him, besides whenever she thrust her phone at Lorcan and asked him to take pictures.
“Is that safe, Lorcan?” Elide asked nervously after they had gotten off the train. Her husband had just thrown Jack onto his shoulders, giving him the best view in the entire park.
“Course,” Lorcan grunted, holding onto their son’s legs, his arms flexing as they walked towards Goofy’s Playhouse. “Just want to make sure he can see everything. He loves people watching, just like his mom.”
They set Jack down and he immediately ran into the bright, cartoon style house.
“He’s gonna sleep so well tonight,” Elide sighed happily.
“And we won’t?” Lorcan countered, an eyebrow raised.
“Good point. I’m glad tomorrow is a lazy day at the beach.”
By the time they dragged Jack away nearly an hour later, even he had come to the conclusion that he was ready to leave. Burying his face in Lorcan’s shoulder, he didn’t seem to mind stopping at Sleeping Beauty’s castle. Elide didn’t have the energy to go up and explore any of the winding passages and staircases, but Lorcan still took her picture everywhere she could go in the castle, juggling her phone in one hand and their near-sleeping son in the other.
“You could have put him in the stroller,” Elide said as they made their way back to their car, double and triple checking that they hadn’t lost anything in the park.
“That’s alright. Didn’t want to risk waking him up.”
Dinner was some fast food they picked up on the way back to their Airbnb. Jack picked at his food and didn’t fight them as they gave him a quick bath and Lorcan got him settled for bed in the small second bedroom of the condo. Elide showered and stepped into the master bedroom to find Lorcan laying on the bed reading a book.
“Did he go down pretty easy?” she asked, drying her hair.
“Oh yeah. Only made it a few more pages into The Hobbit before he passed out.”
“God, same kid,” Elide groaned, throwing on her pajamas and crawling into bed next to Lorcan, grabbing her phone and looking through the several hundred photos she and Lorcan had managed to snap that day.
Opening Instagram, she scrolled through her friend’s recent posts and videos - Aelin and Rowan celebrating their wedding anniversary, Manon’s rescue bulldog Abraxos officially completing training to become a therapy dog, and some professional pictures of Yrene, Chaol and their daughter - before she noticed a ‘Suggested for You’ account:
dilfs_of_disneyland
Elide snorted and scrolled away. How stupid and niche. It was probably filled with a few blurry creepshots of men at Disneyland, or a PR stunt of some kind for a movie or TV show or podcast. No, thank you. Elide had standards. She scrolled away.
On the other hand, she was on vacation; her standards could take a break. She scrolled back up and clicked on the account and was brought to a professional looking Instagram page:
DILFS of Disneyland: Welcome to the Happiest place on Instagram!
Apparently the account wasn’t niche at all - it had over 400,000 followers, and more than 1,200 posts, all featuring pictures of handsome men with babies and toddlers at Disneyland. Elide was stunned, scrolling through post after post after post of men with their kids at Disneyland, doing frankly normal things - pushing strollers, posing for pictures, eating ice cream and churros with their kids - but there was something… else, something more she couldn’t quite put her finger on that made these men extra appealing.
Not that she would ever admit this to Lorcan. Snorting, she scrolled back to the top of the page when she noticed a new post from today with an all too familiar face:
“WOW 😍😍 A DILF to beat all DILFS! Taking Tall, Dark and Handsome to a new DILF-y level!! #hotdads #dilfsofdisneyland #dilfalert #strollermeat”
There was her husband, in all his DILF-y glory from throughout the day: Lorcan walking with Jack strapped to his chest, Lorcan pushing Jack in his stroller, and even one from late in the day when Jack sat on Lorcan’s shoulders. Elide had to give it to the photographer on that one - his arms and chest looked absolutely ripped in the photo.
And the internet agreed. The post had only been up for a few hours and already amassed several hundred likes and over one hundred comments, all from women - and some men - going feral for Lorcan.
“Call the fire department, cuz I’m about to climb that DILF like a tree and get stuck”
“Hello Daddy😏😘”
“God bless this Disney DILF🙏🏻🙏🏻”
Elide couldn’t help but chuckle. She maybe should be concerned that someone had been stalking her husband at Disneyland but as she looked through the many comments bemoaning how hot and unavailable Lorcan was, she didn’t feel any anger for the people drooling over her husband. Her chuckle morphed into a full laugh, until Elide was snorting in laughter.
“What are you laughing at?”
Lorcan was staring at her, his brow furrowed.
“Your greatest fear has come true,” Elide gasped out.
Lorcan sat up. “Rowan got some stupid award he can rub in my face?”
“No, you’re internet famous. Kind of.”
“What?” he snapped, rolling on his side to try to look at her phone. “What happened?”
“It’s nothing bad,” she said, working to contain her laughter. “The internet says you’re a DILF.”
Lorcan stared at her blankly. “A what?”
“A DILF. You know,” she repeated, waving her hand like that would explain the acronym.
"What’s a DILF?”
Elide sat up on her elbows. “Wait, really? You don’t know what a DILF is?” She narrowed her eyes and cocked her head at Lorcan, studying him for any of his lying tells.
“Really. What’s it mean?”
“You’re thirty-four!” Elide exclaimed. “How do you not know what a DILF is?”
“Well, I’m not glued to my phone twenty-four seven -”
“Because your old flip phone doesn't have internet and you only have three people’s phone numbers.”
“Just tell me what it means,” Lorcan grumbled, pouting.
Elide snickered. “It means ‘dad I’d like to fuck.’ There’s an Instagram page devoted to dads in Disneyland, and you’re proving very popular.” She handed her phone to Lorcan and watched him read through the myriad of comments left on his pictures.
“Huh. That’s… interesting.”
Elide shrugged. “Maybe a little odd, but they don’t mean any harm by it. Just people admiring how hot and good of a dad you are.”
“And being a dad… makes me more attractive to women?”
“Oh definitely. There have been times when you’ve been so good with Jack I jumped you when we put him down for a nap. And seeing you today, holding Jack, playing with him…” she trailed off, biting her lip and sweeping her eyes down his body.
“Really? That gets you going?”
“Maybe,” she purred, crawling over to him and swinging her leg over him so she sat on his lap, “I could put on a demonstration of the ‘F’ in DILF, if you still need convincing.”
He grinned, trailing his big hands up her slim thighs. “I’ve always been more of a hands-on learner. That might help it… sink in.”
“Maybe if you’re lucky, that won’t be the only thing you’ll be sinking into,” she murmured, leaning down to capture Lorcan’s lips against hers.
Lorcan’s warm hands grasped the sides of her head to keep her still as their tongues met. Elide sighed with pleasure. She could spend all night just kissing her husband, feeling his large body flex and shift underneath her, his hands trailing soft caresses down her body. His fingers dove beneath her sleep shorts. She was already wet. She gasped as his fingers trailed up and down her slit before plunging a thick finger inside her.
“Guess you weren’t kidding about getting turned on by me being a DILF,” Lorcan mumbled against her, nipping her bottom lip.
Groaning, she rolled off him and threw herself off the bed, tugging her clothes off. “Well, hop to it,” she breathed, laughing softly as Lorcan fumbled to get his pants and shirt off.
She took a moment to stare at his body: a strong chest covered with a smattering of dark hair that formed a dark line below his belly button, thick thighs that could crush a person to death if he needed to. And his cock. Thick, long, and perfectly proportional to his big body and which looked obscene next to Elide’s petite form.
Lorcan lay on the bed, absentmindedly stroking his cock as he looked Elide up and down. “Dad you’d like to fuck, hm?” He murmured. “How about I get you warmed up for a fucking?”
Elide shivered. “What do you have in mind?”
“I like the idea of… sinking into you.” He grinned lazily, and her belly tightened with anticipation. “Get on.”
He grabbed a small bottle of lube and coated his thick length liberally. She climbed on top of Lorcan and gasped as he spun her around and settled her over his cock, her knees bracketing his hips as she faced away from his face, towards his long legs and feet. She turned around to look at him.
“Just wanna feel you around me,” he remarked. Grabbing his cock, he pulled her down, letting her take him within her at her own pace.
Elide moaned. Even after all this time, she still needed to take him slowly, let him stretch out her inner walls. The lube helped immensely. She swirled her hips, taking an inch before withdrawing and taking another, then another, then another, Lorcan’s deep groans egging her on. Finally she sunk down fully against his body. She started to raise herself on her knees to start that intimate rhythm they both knew so well when Lorcan’s hands gripped her hips.
“Hold on,” he said, not letting her move. “Now that you’re here, I wanna enjoy this.”
“Were you not having fun before?” Elide gasped, feeling him twitch inside her.
“Oh, I was and still am,” he said, caressing her hips. “Just come back down and lean forward a bit - yeah, just like that.”
Elide blushed as she leaned forward over Lorcan’s body, grabbing his knees for leverage. She felt exposed and open as Lorcan hummed appreciatively, rubbing his hand over one of her ass cheeks.
“You take me so well,” he murmured. “I think this is a nice interlude before I fuck you. Just wanna feel you warming my cock.”
She craned her neck and gave him an annoyed look. This is not at all what she thought he meant by ‘warming her up.’ “And what about me?”
Lorcan raised an eyebrow. “I was under the impression that we ended up here because you get so turned on just by me being a good dad. Don’t I have a say in how I want to be fucked?”
“Well, I guess, but -“
“Then just sit there nice and pretty on my cock,” he soothed. “Don’t move though, just stay still.”
“Lorcan,” Elide squirmed against him. “I need -“
“Don’t worry, I’ll fuck you full in a bit,” he said distractedly, and Elide knew he felt her cunt clench around his cock ar his words. “I just wanna finish this chapter -“
She tsked. “Really?”
“Yeah,” he said, reaching for his book with one hand and rubbing her back with the other. “Just a few minutes.”
Elide sighed and turned her head back towards Lorcan’s legs, forcing herself to relax. She considered herself fairly adventurous in bed, and her and Lorcan had a very open and healthy sex life, but this was one thing they hadn’t tried yet. Elide didn’t see the appeal in cockwarming, but actually experiencing it, well…
Lorcan subtly shifted his hips and she felt his cock somewhere in her stomach. Cursing, she gripped his knees and made herself stay still. This wasn’t how she thought this would go. When she initially climbed on his lap she thought she’d suck him for a bit then ride him, or maybe bend herself over the bed so he could pound into her from behind.
But here she was, hypersensitive and aware of every little movement and touch from Lorcan, only a few breaths away from breaking and begging him to do something.
Which is probably why he did this. Jerk.
“I can hear you thinking.” She refused to turn around to look at him but she could hear the smirk in his voice.
“Just thinking how I actually wanted to fuck my husband, not stare at a wall with his cock stuffed in me,” she sniffed.
Lorcan laughed. “Ok, Ok, I get it. You’re lucky I’m done with my chapter.”
She whined as he lifted her off his length. She felt horribly cold and empty until he flipped her around on her back and kneeled in between her legs.
“That wasn’t even five minutes, just so you know,” Lorcan said, stroking his slick cock and glancing down to her red pussy.
“Bullshit,” she gasped as her husband gripped her thighs and hauled her towards him so her legs were resting over his hips. “Felt like an hour.”
He hummed. “I should fuck you for an hour, so you have a frame of reference next time we do this.” He laid a wide spread hand on her stomach and moved his hand up her torso.
“What a perfect little wife you are,” he whispered. Elide gulped; his hand covered nearly her entire chest, and his fingers graced the hollow of her throat.
“Please,” she gasped, licking her lips and shifting her hips to graze his cock.
“So tiny, but like you were made for me.” He looked down to where they were almost joined. His cock jutted obscenely out over her stomach.
“Is this what you imagined?” He asked, dragging the head of his cock over her clit before settling at her entrance. “When you told me that I’m a DILF, and how excited that makes you?”
Elide couldn’t answer, her eyes darting between Lorcan’s dark gaze and his thick cock so close to where she wanted him.
He squeezed her thighs. “Well?”
“Yes,” she said in a broken whisper. “Yes, I imagined you fucking me so hard -“
Lorcan pushed into her in one hard stroke and Elide lost her train of thought. Lost every thought she’d ever had, honestly, as Lorcan gripped her waist and set a hard pace.
Elide grabbed Lorcan’s forearms as he pounded into her, needing to feel even more of his warm body and to keep herself from moving around the bed with the power of his thrusts. She threw her head back at a particularly rough thrust.
“Fuck Lorcan,” she groaned, aware that she couldn’t be as loud as she wanted with Jack in the room next door.
“God, you’re always so tight,” he grunted out, wrapping his arms around her thighs and hauling her lower half off the bed and further into his lap, letting him thrust even deeper inside her. “Feel so good. Is this hard enough for you?”
“Yes!” Her orgasm inched closer and closer. She reached down and started circling her clit rapidly. If he kept fucking her just like this, and she kept touching herself…
“I wonder how turned on you’d get if we had another,” he said, staring down at her intently. “You wouldn’t be able to keep your hands off me, would you?”
Lorcan didn’t get an answer as Elide came, squeezing her eyes shut and biting her lip to keep herself quiet. Warmth spread throughout her body as her orgasm traveled along her nerves, lighting her up from the inside. She was vaguely aware of a muffled groan above her and more warmth between her legs as Lorcan came.
He dropped her limp legs and bracketed his arms next to Elide’s head, careful not to crush her as he gave her a gentle kiss before rolling beside her. They lay in blissful silence for a few moments, each focusing on slowing their erratic breathing, when Lorcan let out a huff of air, then another, until he started chuckling.
“DILFs of Disneyland. How many likes did the post have?”
“Hm?” Elide mumbled, halfway to falling asleep.
“Were there a lot of comments on my post? I only saw about a dozen.”
“A lot of… what?”
“Any chance you can check your phone?”
She propped herself on one elbow to stare at Lorcan, brows furrowed. “What? You don’t know anything about Instagram or how it works.”
Lorcan rolled his eyes. “Of course I know how Instagram works. I browse it every now and then.”
“How? Your phone doesn’t have any apps!”
“The desktop.”
“Your old desktop computer?” Elide asked, flabbergasted. “I didn’t realize that thing still worked. And whose accounts are you looking at?”
“Yours, obviously.”
Oh. “Lorcan,” Elide said, grinning softly. “That’s so sweet -“
“And the DILFs of Disneyland page.”
The grin vanished from her face. “What.”
“Yeah, Rowan showed it to me when I told him we were coming here, and he said he and Aelin and their girl are planning a trip later this year. I bet him I could not only get featured on the DILFs of Disneyland Instagram account, but also get more likes than him if he manages to get featured too.”
Elide stared at her smug husband, slack jawed. “So the entire day you insisted on holding and wheeling Jack around -“
“Was because I wanted to spend time with him and so your ankle wouldn’t get sore and we’d have to leave early,” he said gently, bringing her down to lay on his chest. “But if it also meant there were lots of opportunities for me to look hot as hell while holding Jack, then that was nice too.”
“You self centered ass,” Elide said, lightly smacking his shoulder as Lorcan laughed. Elide couldn’t help but join in, shaking her head all the while.
“Well, what did you two idiots bet on?”
“Bragging rights and the loser has to get a shirt for the winner proclaiming them the official DILF of Disneyland.”
“If you somehow win, that will be a bedroom shirt only,” Elide warned.
“Definitely not. I’m gonna wear it around all the time. Get fucked, Rowan.”
“Then you’ll be the one to explain to Jack what a DILF is.”
“This is great,” Lorcan said, pointedly ignoring Elide. “As soon as we get back, I’m gonna email him my DILF pictures -“
“God, you’re such an old man,” Elide laughed, throwing herself dramatically on the bed next to him. “Living up to the reputation of dads being terrible with technology.”
“I make up for it in other ways, don’t I?” he breathed against her neck, his lips trailing past her collarbone and breasts and stomach and then even lower.
“Oh! Yes, I suppose you do have your strengths,” Elide mused breathlessly as Lorcan settled his head between her thighs.
Unfortunately for Elide, Lorcan received his DILF of Disneyland shirt from Rowan, and he gloated insufferably. Fortunately for her, though, Lorcan made sure to show his wife how he became a DILF, and she couldn’t walk straight for two days.
She had to give it to them: the DILFs of Disneyland account really was the happiest place on Instagram.
