work is a slog, weather is bad, life is a fuck. let’s talk about some media

listening Simply Vibing to this, which according to google translate is Prayer by the band Kassiopeâ. it has a little bit of the vibe of Blondie’s Call Me? it sounds like a modern cover of an eighties song but it’s already a modern song. hope this helps. VERY strobe-y music vid, be forewarned.

how did i find this: either spotify weekly recommended or it started playing an automix after i listened to a single and i didn’t notice.

reading do you people enjoy when i link a Bideo James article and break it down/add my own commentary or is that not fun? can’t tell, haven’t read a real book in a minute.

anyway there are exactly two other video games data pundits whose work in data i respect and mr joost van dreunen is one of them. here’s an interesting look at the playstation subscription service offering, which does feel half-baked and like they didn’t want to announce it quite yet. the tiers are extremely confusing- i tried to summarize them in one powerpoint slide for a client and ended up with a footnote on the main slide instead like “varied tiers of offerings similar to GamePass”.

now the fun thing about console gaming is that consoles are typically sold at something of a loss. the real money is in the games, especially the first-party exclusives (the ones you can Only play on a specific platform, like Breath of the Wild, bc once you’ve gotten people over the big purchase of a console they’re more likely to buy more games for it). the real money is also now in the subscription services. everyone wants to be the Netflix of Games.

playstation’s offering isn’t QUITE like gamepass, even though they feel similar. as mr joost points out, right now the games available on playstation’s service tend to NOT be the most modern battlepass lootbox stuff that keeps gambling addictions satisfied (my words not his). since they ARE offering a nice buffet of older PS2 and PS3 games, this implies good things for video game preservation, and i think if they spun it more as a Criterion Collection of restored/remastered/pulled out of the archives stuff they might get a little more traction? who could say. much remains to be seen &tc

how did i find this? read it for work.

watching our flag means death: not pinging my Sea Longing in the way black sails does bc it is so obvious they are not on a real boat? like i am thinking of it more as a stage play than anything else? i am oddly cranky that it’s not black sails, but nothing will ever be black sails. this was perfectly fine and fun! tailored in a very specific way for fandom in a way i cannot articulate, in the way that some movies are oscar bait this show was fandom bait? but not in a malicious way, i think mr waititi simply knows what he’s about?

playing deeply annoyed bc i was very excited for NORCO, a moody narrative point and click game in the louisiana lowlands, but the themes have turned out to be. shall we say. Emotionally Difficult for me. so i did a thing i hate which is request a refund, but made it super clear in the refund note that the problem was me and not the game. shoutout to games that DO put their biggest trigger upfront with a warning, wish they did it for more than just the one tho.

in other news i have GOT to find a new fucking game to turn my brain off that’s not fallout 4, bc i put like a hundred hours into this run with the objective of getting more achievements and have fallen off at the same point i did last time (rummaged around in a brain, didn’t meet the brotherhood bc fuck those guys) and i am simply not compelled by the main quest and i am no longer having fun with the game. i am finding it oddly difficult to make my own fun in that game this time around, outside of settlement building.

anyway look at this screenshot from the most extreme southwestern corner of the map, where you can very very faintly make out the brotherhood airship in the distance. should have centered it but i did not, a bit up and to the left of the center dot.

and this slightly better shot. i do like watching the vertibirds limp home. dont you fucking DARE crash into my goddamn base tho

spent most of this run unlocking all the settlements and spent like fifty hours in nuka cola world, which is an extremely robust little dlc. maybe i’ll give far harbor a crack tonight, although i vaguely remember actually finishing that one. still haven’t finished nuka cola world bc i do like gage but it’s mmmm impossible for me to justify doing a slaver/raider playthrough. why (i mean i know why but WHY) are the east coast games so obsessed with owning slaves. it’s not great. the biggest and most robust questline aside from the main in fo3 is the goddamn slave trader one. you functionally own clover and charon.

making part of a making update, part of a life update: i will be moving sometime between NOW and END OF JUNE (upside down smiley face) partly bc i have learned that i simply cannot deal with living with other people any longer and especially with cannot deal with living with other people five years younger than me. i do not currently actively wish my worst roommate harm but that could change at any moment.

so making will probably DRAMATICALLY slow down bc i am no longer inclined to put any effort into this apartment. the making this week is i guess pre-grieving this apartment. a good refuge while i had it :(

idk if a tag like this already exists but I’m just gonna go for it lol - As this year is coming to a close I wanted to do a quick review of all the things we got to enjoy this year and give a shoutout to the people we appreciated this year; may it be new acquaintances, old friends or just nice people ~

Top 10 shows of 2020:

1) Tonhon Chonlatee

hold your shitstorm lmao - this show has my heart, no matter how crazy and absurd it is and idc what anyone says. I’ve been looking forward to it all year and poddkhao own my ass so much so even though it’s not done yet and it has some issues here and there, it’s still my no.1 & I will defend it with my life lol.

2) Why R U

my ultimate crack and serotonin source of the year lmao. It started right when quarantine started for me and as insane as it was, it weirdly kept me sane at the beginning of the pandemic lol. It was SO much fun to watch and it was the beginning of my saizon obsession dskjfhds 🥺

3) FriendZone 2

I loved season 1 and I NEVER expected the sequel to be this iconic lmao. All of the stories were continued so well and it never had a dead point. Also not to mention the stud/earth/sam/pop plot - absolutely iconic. And the CrisAmm story that EVERYONE slept on?? smh. amazing!! gmmtv outdid themselves with this show and destroyed their bad-sequel-reputation lol. The season’s not done yet but it’s definitely already a highlight!

4) 2Gether

i mean,,, how can i not add this to the list lol - I remember being really intrigued when I saw the trailer for the 1st time and it’s crazy how much it blew up lol. They really got the timing just right. It was super cute and even though---- *side-eyes the finale*, I still loved it (and the sequel!) and since it became so big it was a lot of fun to talk to so many people about it!!

5) My Gear and Your Gown

I loved this one so much; it had a lot of great and original stories - The PureFolk and PureWaan plots were so well done and it was just refreshing to see a show that handled things a little differently. Loved it!! ♥

6) My Engineer

UGH!!!!! Iconic. a LOT of crack but omg it was so much fun!!! RamKing still have my entire heart & they were for sure the highlight of the show. Can’t wait for season 2!!! ♥

7) LBC2

Unlike 90% of the LBC fandom, I loved this sequel lol. I loved how they chose to retell the tincan story; the sideplots were a little draggy at times but the main plot was really a treat ♥

8) YYY

I.....was debating if I should add this to the list but.....I had to lmao. It’s the weirdest, strangest and most obscure thing I’ve ever seen in my life but??? let’s be real. It was iconic. yoon and talay had a good chemistry and at the end of the day I just had a good time. And that’s all that counts right.

9) I told sunset about you

uhm-------yeah. Not much to say about this one lol. The excessive pain is the reason it’s only #9 for me but other than that- amazing!!

10) Angel Beside Me

This one is less popular and idk if anyone who reads this has actually seen it lol but man it was REALLY good. Jane is one of my favorite gmmtv actresses and her and JJ KILLED it omg. I loved the vibe of the show and the silver lining-message. It was subtle and the story was very intense but so good. I loved it and I recommend it to everyone who hasn’t seen it!!! (beware though, it’s not bl lol)

1. Why did you choose your url?

It’s the name I go by on the Internet. 😂 I hate change, so regardless of whichever fandom I’m in, I keep it consistent. (People with multiple AO3 accounts for different fandoms, I can’t even. Don’t @ me!!!)

2. Any side blogs? If you have them, name them and why you have them

Technically @havvy-land is a sideblog but it’s just a regular blog under a different email address because the sideblog vs main blog things confuses me too much. You can’t answer asks or you can answer asks or... Yeah, I’ve been here for like a solid ten years and I still have no idea how Tumblr works.

3. How long have you been on Tumblr?

Oh, now I have to actually figure this one out. Since April 25th, 2011 according to my archive.

4. Do you have a queue tag?

No. Because I’m too lazy to keep up a queue, but if I had one, I think I’d use “queue ball - corner pocket” even though it’s silly because you don’t really announce which pocket you’re going to sink the cue ball into because you’re not supposed to sink the cue ball......

5. Why did you start your blog in the first place?

My original blog was to join in all the cool kids in the Supernatural fandom -- urghegrhghhh -- and then I never really used it that much and still don’t. Started this one when I started mostly posting Queen stuff just to be able to start with a fresh timeline without having to unfollow everyone I knew on the other blog. And never really use this one either! 🙌

6. Why did you choose your icon/pfp?

I’m so used to my avatar being Olivia de Havilland that I started answering this question that way, but over here it’s John Deacon looking like he’s done with life. Figured I should have a Queen-specific pfp for what was essentially supposed to be a Queen blog. ~~branding.🌟

7. Why did you choose your header?

I don’t think I have a header on either blog. I don’t think I know how to do that. 😂

8. What’s your post with the most notes?

On this blog, it’s the Crystal-and-all-the-Boys post. 1400+ notes and going strong, and I’ve seen it reposted on Instagram twice. 😂

9. How many mutuals do you have?

How many mutuals do I have that are mutuals I engage with or just happen to be mutuals? I don’t know and I don’t feel like counting -- but I appreciate that Tumblr now tells you if someone you’re following follows you back so that you can fret about people who aren’t!

10. How many followers do you have?

Over here, 820. Can’t tell you why. I assume most of them are inactive now!

11. How many people do you follow?

I went on a purge a few months back to unfollow inactive blogs and people who had moved on from Queen stuff and were posting things I wasn’t really vibing with -- shoutout to the individual who is ALWAYS posting cool recipes because I will NEVER unfollow you, that shit is GREAT. So right now we’re down to 220.

12. Have you ever made a shitpost?

Yes! One time. And then someone started sending me postal codes and phone numbers into my inbox and I’m not entirely sure if the two things were related or not, but I figure they were trying to give me my details like “haha! I know where you live!” but while they were for the right general part of the country, they weren’t actually mine. So idk, honestly.

13. How often do you use Tumblr each day?

How much do I use Tumblr each week you mean? Hahahaha. I open it once a day or so, scroll for a bit, like a few things and then move on. One day I’ll fix my theme so it has a scroll bar again and then use this more. She said without much confidence.

14. Did you have a fight/argument with another blog once? Who won?

Uhhhhh, no? I mean, I’ve had fallings-out with people where we unfollowed each other but I’ve never had a heated Tumblr argument. “Who won” feels like a loaded question -- how do you quantify WINNING on Tumblr??? 😂

15. How do you feel about ‘you need to reblog this’ posts?

If you’re going to unfollow me because I didn’t reblog something on my mostly inactive Tumblr account, there’s a good chance we’re not going to hit it off as friends anyway. 😂

16. Do you like tag games?

I don’t spend a lot of time on Tumblr beyond the occasional twenty minutes of idle scrolling but I love the feeling of “oh, someone thought of me 🥺” so tag away!

17. Do you like ask games?

This one requires a little more active participation from me, which I am obviously against 😂 but if I see a friend hosting an ask game, I often drop an anon ask in their inbox just to make them smile.

I was tagged by the LOML @cellphonehippie to do the 2020 creator wrap: favourite works!

Rules: It’s time to love yourselves! Choose your 5 (ish) favorite works you created in the past year (fics, art, edits, etc.) and link them below to reflect on the amazing things you brought into the world in 2020. 1. "the trapeze artist breaks her neck" [mirrorball graphic] It's honestly kind of surprising that this is my no. 1 edit, given that I was pretty unsure of how it would turn out when I made it. But I love how strange and Lynch-ian it is and I adore the 90s VHS aesthetic. It was kind of a challenge, too, because of the unusual color pallete. I'm proud of it to the point where I showed it to multiple friends in real life. It's a directon of editing I want to explore further in the future.

2. Cowboy Like Me, Midsummer Night's Dream, Miss Americana, Tonight I'm Gonna Dance! [fake movies] Nothing quite like a fake movie edit!!! I grouped them all together because I can't just choose one (though, if I had to, it would be Midsummer Night's Dream). These are always so much fun to make, I love looking at references, picking out scenes, etc. Special shoutout to the Cowboy Like Me edit for making me go so crazy I wrote a 4k fanfiction about it in 5 days.

3. "Let's talk about Taylor Swift's reputation" [reputation-inspired graphic], "I'm a fool for love" [graphic], Real People! [album concept] Grouping these together for typography reasons. I feel like my typography work has improved so much over the course of this year and these edits are ones where I am very proud of my font choices in correlation with the GIFs and images and the vibe I wanted to go for. Shoutout to the font Birch at this point for infiltrating the fandom.

4. "all of the bandits that you turn your other cheek to" [collaboration with Jess] Getting to collab with one of my absolute editing inspirations, on a surrealist edit, inspired by my favorite Bob Dylan song? A DREAM. This edit turned out amazing and it was a real learning experience, too, since I experimented a lot with overlays and how to incorporate GIFs in interesting ways.

5. "another name goes up in lights" [folklore lyrics / celebrities] Edits about celebrity culture are my brand, and this is my favorite one I made for that "genre" of editing. I love the typography – again – and I'm surprised how cohesive it turned out despite me not paying much attention to color choices while making it.

1) ok first of all i love buzzfeed unsolved!! in honor of them ending the series ive been rewatching all of it too lol (i just got to the iconic goatman episode) but i’d recommend downton abbey (i’m only on season four but i’ve rlly been enjoying it) and i’m currently making my way through disney’s tv adaptation of this book series i rlly loved in like,, late middle school-ish? it’s called the mysterious benedict society and the way they’re making the tv show feels so much like the book i rlly love it

2)uhhh so i don’t have any band stories (obvs lol) but i did dye my hair for the first time (well the first time i permanently dyed it) at midnight in the girls locker room? so i go to a rlly small jewish day school, and on the first night of hanukkah they do this thing where all the girls in the high school get to sleep over and light the candles for the first night and then watch movies and wtv and sleep in the not heated gym (and then wake up to pray and go to classes because hanukkah started the day before winter break that year and so we had to actually go to classes the next day🙄) but i had brought hair dye with me so two friends and i (shoutout to @eb4 for being one of those friends and seeing the chaos firsthand shakhskahs) left during the movie (it was parent trap so i almost stayed lol) and went down to the girls locker room and busted out the hair dye! we had to dye it in the sink cuz the school showers r 🤢 and don’t have curtains and i was already in my pajamas. so then an hour later we washed off the dye in the sink and voila! it was box black hair dye and my natural hair is rlly dark brown so it wasn’t like i was dying my hair some crazy color like the blue i have now) i for sure have other stories if u wanna hear them and i’d love to hear some band stories!☺️

3)omg it’s not creepy dw 😂 and i live in massachusetts! also i didn’t know that u live in jersey!! (ok so these two kids who joined my grade this past year r from jersey and they’re so chaotic and i get very similar vibes from u and now i’m wondering if it’s just a jersey thing sksnsjs)

Not very. It’s fun and cute and all, but I care a whole lot more about “clicking” with people and having fun writing with them.

4. How do you explain rp to someone in the real world?

Ehhh, depends on my mood. I lean towards female muses in general ( definitely got a bigger chunk of ladies on my list, for sure for sure ) but I love my boys.

Uhhhh A) We’re all such dumb socially awkward blobs so it’s often hard to get to know new people.

B) The feel that if you have a good relationship with one person who writes a canon muse, it’s some kind of lowkey betrayal to write with other people who write the same muse??

C) How much I, a certified card-carrying dumbass, stress myself out about posting on a “regular” schedule. Does that count? Like I want the blogs to look “presentable” lmao and me@me Calm The Fuck Down.

11. What do you know now about rp that you wish you knew when you first started?

Uhhhh, when I first started was long enough ago and the community was so different a lot of those lessons no longer apply. I wish when I finally jumped over to Tumblr I’d realized quicker how the new like....basic ways of meeting people and posting and all worked, which was mostly just a “calm down and go with the flow more, let go of your stupid rigid old habits” lmaooo.

12. Have you been involved in drama? Do you regret it?

yES. Yeah. Hahaha ha h.

But ummm, not usually. No. Most of my drama has been either A) me posting the very very softest, most diluted version of barely-touching on my politics and my real goddamn life and people being fuckin butthurt as hell about or B) cutting people who were toxic and draining out of my life. So.

13. Have you ever thought about leaving rp? What caused it? What changed your mind?

Yeah. Once I actually did — when I started college I just didn’t have the time, so I peaced from the larger community to just write with close friends for a while. I’ve also considered leaving the T.umblr RPC a few times, but really only because of long bad depressive episodes. Coming back and “not wanting to literally die irl ha Ha” and catching up with my drafts gets me back on track lmao.

14. Do you think rp has had a positive or negative affect on your life or you as a person?

Positive! Sometimes I worry that I spend too much time wrapped up in fiction and miss my real life, but I’ve learned to keep my time more separate so now it’s just good to have a healthy hobby that makes me happy. Also I’m definitely a much better writer for it, and there a lot of networking skills I think translate to real workplace skills so it’s 👌

15. How has rp changed you personally?

See above, tbh. And it gives me a lot of good outlets for writing ideas that would otherwise stew in my head until I hated myself for never ever writing any lmao. It’s good.

16. If you could change one thing about rp on tumblr, what would it be? Why?

Oh, I dunno. I wish I could post replies from mobile more easily, god. That’d keep me a lot more on top of my drafts lmao.

Sometimes. If a partner is actually pressuring me I’m real good at saying uhhh hey, fuck off about that? but sometimes partners will perfectly-innocently be enthusiastic about things I’m not super comfortable with and that’s harder to bring up. So it’s..... more like I pressure myself, whoops.

21. Have you ever followed someone because you felt like you had to, not because you wanted to?

Ehh. Not really. Sometimes I’ll follow a friend of a friend despite lack of interest just because, like.... My friends are smart and good, maybe I’m just not getting the right “vibe” from their blog as who really they are. Sometimes that just means we never click and I unfollow them later. Or sometimes @rumdaydreams drags me straight to mutual hell and we write 20,000 unfinished bullshit and meet irl and she actually talks me into wholeass new blogs and muses. So, you know. Mix bag.

22. What would make you block someone?

Red flags for manipulation and lowgrade emotional a.buse, especially ones I viscerally feel in my stomach from previous experiences. Obvious r.ight-leaning politics ( Weirdly, I’m not particularly comfortable around people who don’t think I or my friends deserve to be treated like human beings! A character quirk, haha! )

Also ngl sometimes I block people just to remind myself I’ve followed them before and I don’t wanna re-follow them six times and look like I’m trying to intentionally harass them. My memory is bad but the block button always knows, lmao. 😅

23. Have you ever stolen something from someone else?

Not intentionally — I try very hard not to steal hc from duplicates or take plots without asking. But, y’know, sometimes an idea sticks in your head and you eventually just forget where it originally came from.

24. Have you ever had something stolen from you? If so, how did you handle it?

Not that I’m aware of.

25. Are you open to duplicates? Why / why not?

Absolutely, for the most part! I like seeing other perspectives, and especially since @thewrongsorts is such a bigass multi it lowkey just makes my life easier.

There are a few exceptions — less because they’re duplicates and more because there are hc/fanon I just......dislike enough I don’t wanna write with them. Not a feeling that’s limited to duplicates tbh.

26. How do you feel about vague posting?

Ehhh. It’s like not a great thing, but I get the appeal. I tend to unfollow if someone posts a lot of it because then they’re just passive-aggressive as a person, but the occasional vagueblog I don’t mind. Sometimes you gotta get shit off your chest but you don’t wanna make it a wholeass call-out, I get it.

27. Do you follow people even if they don’t follow you back?

Generally I unfollow. I’m here to write, if we’re not interacting it’s clogging my dash. ( Honestly I unfollow mutuals eventually if we never write.... ) But very occasionally someone’s got such good #takes and hc that I stick around just bc I stan.

29. What is your opinion on “reblog karma” and do you practice it?

It’s nice! Like.... I wouldn’t require anyone to do it, but it makes people feel better about their blogs, it’s polite. I know I’m happier getting memes as well as passing them along. You know, be social. Connect with people. I always try to practice it, yeah.

Uhhh, yeah. My irl social circles are a lot of dumb gay millennials, we use a lot of dumb internet slang.

I was tagged by both @kotokodesu and @seokjinings (Gracias, Val! Thank you, Sara!) <3 I’m supposed to answer these kdrama-related questions, make 10 new questions myself and tag people (I’m not going to make new questions this time ahahaha sorry 😅😅)

Under the read more, my answers~

Val’s @kotokodesu questions:

1. What’s the most annoying drama trope in your opinion? That goddamn WE HAVE TO BREAK UP FOR OUR OWN GOOD trope shit I SWEAR TO GOD. The unnecessary drama it creates just to give some angst-y vibes to the whole thing is not worth it aaaa... and they just get back together after two episodes or so, so WHAT’S THE POINT????? I hate it!!! An exemple: the one used in Shopping King Louie. It seriously killed the mood.

2. Also what trope would you love to see more of? (Enemies to) Friends to lovers??? Mutual Pining??? Sweet cohabitation??? Yes, please.

3. Fuck marry kill between your three fave characters I’m not a “fuck” kind of person, so let’s do cuddle, marry, kill instead...

4. If you had to live in one of those huge lofts/houses we see in dramas, which one would you pick? Belle Époque (Age of Youth), does that count??? I loved its design. Or maybe Bong Hee’s (Missing Nine) rooftop house. It was so colourful.

5. One drama you wish you had never seen? and why?? Legend of the Blue Sea, I guess. It had a promising start and all, but halfway through it got quite boring. In the end I just skipped through a lot of episodes.

6. What’s the best product placement you had seen? Idk if it’s considered a product placement but... In Drinking Solo, Ha Na would talk to S Voice (Samsung’s equivalent to Apple’s Siri) like it was a real person and it was hilarious.

7. Okay so choose your biggest otp, now.. If you only could save one of them from whatever scenario you can imagine, which one would you save? Bok Joo and Joon Hyung??? I’d save Bok Joo bc I’m 300% sure she would save Joon Hyung then...

Same thing with Yeon Joo and Kang Chul.

8. Your favorite underrated dramas?? (so I can have more recs lol) Drinking Solo and 1% of Something (the 2016 remake ver) tbh.

9. If you could only watch dramas starring the same actor/tress, which one would you pick? I haven’t completely picked up favourite actors and actresses, so idk??????

10. Your guilty pleasure drama? Anything that looks very cliche but is actually surprisingly good.

1. how long have you been in the kdrama fandom? Since June of last year haha.

2. what is the first kdrama you watched or first you fell in love with? Doctors was the first kdrama I’ve ever watched, and I guess I could say it was the very first one I fell in love with.

3. what are your three favorite kdrama troupes? also least favorite? My favourite tropes are, obviously: (Enemies to) Friends to lovers, fake dating/marriage, mutual pining and the cohabitation trope (if put together with the other three I’ve mentioned it’s EVEN BETTER wink wink~). As for my least favourite tropes, that one I’ve mentioned before and I’m not a huge fan of the amnesia trope (if not done right). Also the evil mom/stepmom trope when done too over-the-top.

4. do you have any favorite osts? Full OSTs or specific songs? A full OST I love with all my heart and soul is the W OST (honorable mentions to Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo OST and Goblin OST!!). For specific songs tho, and to name a few:

Sunflower - Younha (from Doctors OST)

The Tiger Moth - Monsta X (from Shopping King Louie OST)

Flower - Seo In Guk (from Tomorrow with You OST)

5. Is there any actors that haven’t seen in dramas for awhile that you miss? Where’s Lee Jong Suk new kdrama tho?????

6. Is there any actors who you feel don’t fit kdrama genre that they have played or are maybe typecast in and what would they be better suited in? Three consecultive kdramas and Ha Seok Jin keeps getting typecasted as a tsundere-like character. Just let him play a full lovable character for once.

7. is there a drama you feel is underrated that more people should pay attention to? I don’t think many people payed much attention to 1% of Something (the remake!!!), so~

8. is there an overrated drama you don’t understand why is so popular? Ok, please don’t yell at me but...
