My experience visiting the set of FFH.
Please credit if you share! Warning: Potential Spoilers
I only just stopped crying over this weekend, so hopefully I can write about it coherently. And hopefully I don’t miss anything--besides of course, the parts that I can’t share.
I first just want to say thank you to Mir who has been planning this adventure with me for the past two weeks and kept me sane throughout the weekend. Thanks for being the best temporary roommate, for the Dunkin runs, subway swipes, and of course, the adventure of a lifetime. Jessie- thank you for being braver than the US marines, and for being ten steps ahead of us at all times. To Bayley and the Bosco bitches, everyone I got to meet this weekend- I LOVE YOU. I am grateful to have shared it with you. See you soon.
Note: I have been spending the past 10 days scouting locations, getting some right, some wrong. Every time I see a yellow sign on the street or a suburban or a crowd of people now, my blood pressure rises. My anxiety truly won this week. I tried to be as discreet as possible about specifics, telling white lies when I needed to, or avoiding DM’s, which probably came off as very selfish. But I want to say that I was genuinely looking out for the cast and their safety. Seeing fans run after cars, autograph collectors stand outside of their trailers, and even hear people say “if I don’t get a picture with ____ this won’t be worth it” made me really sad. At the end of the day, the thing I realized most this weekend was how much Tom and Zendaya care about their fans. If they interacted with us, most of us put our phones away just to be able to make a genuine connection with them. They look you directly into the eyes and talk to you as if you have been friends for years. I really really appreciate that. I hope you all get the chance to experience the same thing.
Edited to include meeting Tom on Thursday, 10/18/2018.
Friday
It started around 6:40 am on Friday. My best friend Kacey and I met up with Mir, then Jessie, then Liz. We all sat in a Starbucks near the 8th Avenue set, and noticed crew getting ready and moving equipment. While we were waiting for our food, Darnell walked in. WE HAD ONLY BEEN THERE FOR FIVE MINUTES and we did not want to expose ourselves as fans so early in the morning especially since crew members were also there. We ended up just smiling and eating to conserve our energy for what would be an incredibly long day. Then we left to see if the cast had arrived and where they would actually be filming. We camped out in the Duane Reade across the street (in the back of some set photos) for probably 45 minutes before we saw Tom, Zendaya, Harry, and their PA’s. They arrived together (not in costume) and started walking over to their trailer(s). Miranda spotted them first, and we loosely followed them to see where they were going. Zendaya crossed the street first, then Tom and Harry. So we only saw which trailer Tom and Harry walked into. We ended up walking back to set and saw that they had extras sitting on the steps of Penn Station getting directions. Crew members directed us away from the set and we complied. Jessie ended up sitting on the steps and wasn’t questioned until later (and then was kicked out when they realized she wasn’t an extra, hahaha but we applaud her bravery anyway). We walked in circles, breaking into smaller groups so we wouldn’t seem suspicious and then went into the Post Office above Penn Station. We saw the two stunt doubles being hooked up to the crane and joked about how it would probably be a spideychelle scene. Then we saw Tom and Zendaya walk into Penn Station so we walked in as well, but they had gone to a private corridor so Tom could get changed into the spidey costume. Everything after that happened very quickly. Liz decided to sit on the Penn Station steps which was no longer being used for a scene, and luckily, she spotted Zendaya and Tom (in costume) before the rest of NYC. We secured a spot at the top of the steps while they discussed the scene and were hooked up to the crane. I was live tweeting at that point but I did not want to get in trouble, so I hinted that fans would be excited for the scene. I am so sorry for teasing. I am genuinely scared of Marvel and did not want them to come for me. I hope that Marvel does not come after my ass for writing this. Please, God.
Tom and Zendaya spotted us almost immediately, which is funny because we assumed that Tom couldn’t see very far through the mask. The first time we waved, it was basically only us on the steps and Zendaya waved right back. After they filmed a couple of takes of the scene with them going up, then high-fiving, Tom did a particularly good take so we fake clapped. He saw it and tilted his head back (probably laughing) and gave us a peace sign. Zendaya immediately looked over at us too and waved. Ugh. King and Queen. When we took our phones out to take pictures, and see how twitter was reacting to locals’ tweets about the scene, Zendaya pretended to be scrolling on her phone and Tom pretended to be texting exaggeratedly, mocking us. They both laughed at our asses. We were so caught off by this and I hid my phone so quick so they wouldn’t drag me again. We sat on the steps and watched them do multiple takes, which some found to be super tedious but I found super interesting. They would yell “ROLLING!” and the cameras would start rolling, then “BACKGROUND” and extras would start moving, then “CAMERA” and the camera would start moving, then of course, the actors cue, “ACTION!”.
Every time they would finish the scene, Tom and Zendaya would talk, Jon would come over to probably give them feedback on the scene, and when they had time, they would look over and wave to fans. Our group got bigger throughout the day when Bayley, Troy, Maria, etc joined and Tom and Zendaya would always acknowledge us. We truly felt like the chosen ones. Harry even took a picture of us on his camera, and some crew members put us on their stories. We always waved when they turned around, and they smiled. Finally T and Z finished the scene and went back inside, waving at us and the rest of the fans who had arrived. The crew filmed more scenes with extras, then Zendaya filmed a scene, and then Tom came out (as Tom) and walked back to his trailer. He ended up coming back less than an hour later to get changed back into the spidey suit. The lighting kept changing, so they changed positions multiple times. After they would finish a scene they went into a tent to watch it on the monitors. I did not realize that Kevin Feige was sitting inside until he came out to take a phone call. Jessie had spotted Amy Pascal that morning, so both of them were present to see Tom and Zendaya film their scene.
By the end of the day on this particular set, we had moved around quite a lot. We were asked to leave the steps so we went across the street. Whenever the crew told us to move, we complied. At one point we were literally standing next to Remy and only Maria had realized. The amount of times this happened this weekend was literally ridiculous. He eventually went over to Zendaya to say hi and then talked to Harry and another PA. Some guy behind us kept yelling at Harry, which at first was pretty funny until he started shouting repeatedly for a selfie. Harry ended up walking away. Lol. Then we were told we had to move because we were blocking the sidewalk, so we asked a crew member if we could go sit back on the steps. He said yes, so we did. Then we were stopped twice by crew members who told us we couldn’t go back up, but the guy in charge told them that we could. Wow, our power. Shoutout to them for being super nice. <3
One funny story from this is that at one point I had reached up with my shirt to clean the lense of Kacey’s camera, accidentally flashing the cast, crew, as well as the city of New York. The dumbass in me truly jumped out on this day. I am so sorry to all witnesses.
Eventually, they wrapped filming for this location and everyone clapped. It was an amazing feeling and all of my new friends hugged. We could not believe that we saw Tom and Zendaya, that they acknowledged us, that they filmed a spideychelle scene and that it was only 12:30. SO MUCH HAD HAPPENED. Zendaya was standing there talking to Harry and we wanted to ask her for a picture but the crew moved us along. I am the queen of eavesdropping and heard a crew member say the intersection of the next location, so we headed there. We got there early and ended up getting some food, water, and charging our phones.
While we were looking for the location, we split up to see if the cast had arrived yet, and Miranda and I ended up running into Zach and Jacob. We had no idea what to do and did not want to bother them for a picture because we knew it was their day off. So I just said “hii!!” and Miranda said “Hi Jacob and Zach!” Jacob said “oh hi!” and seemed surprised that we had stopped them. They were super sweet and smiled at us. We ended up saying “Hi love you” and walking away. It was honestly super awkward. Jacob and Zach--we are so sorry. Less than 5 minutes later we walked right in front of where they were going to begin filming and I saw a tiny black dog crossing the street. I immediately knew it was Noon and then looked up to see Darnell walking him. LMK WHY I GOT SO EXCITED. I had never wanted to pet a dog so much in my life. I miss you already, king. I hope you are ok after your trip to the vet. (I say as if he will ever read this--wtf).
The afternoon location was pretty anticlimactic. They had blocked off both sides of the road and there was no upper vantage point, so we only saw them film a couple of shots. They also filmed with the crane and you guys probably saw Spider-man swing around a pole, surprise Michelle, then them jump up. They filmed this a bunch of different ways. It seemed that they couldn’t tell whether Spider-man should impress MJ by swinging up to her or simply walking up to her, so they filmed it both ways. The last shot was of Spider-man and MJ jumping up, and again MJ looks a little frightened. So during the last few takes, when Zendaya had a goofy look on her face and Tom jumped up with his legs in an awkward position, we figured they were out of character and just having fun. We started clapping and cheering for them and they did it again. We joked about them having done it just for us. After their last take, we cheered and they cheered too and danced. Then they wrapped, went inside the pharmacy (probably to get warm and see the shot on the monitor).
We walked around a little after this to see if they had moved back to their trailers, and ended up not seeing much, so we decided to split up and go home. As the two groups of us walked separate ways, something told me, Kacey, and Mir to stay. A second later we saw Tom take a picture with fans, literally SPRINT to his trailer, come out with a beanie on, and then leave with Harry. He waved at us and then got into his car. We didn’t chase after him for a picture because boundaries--and because he looked super tired. We stood on the corner for a second and at this point it was Troy, Maria, Bayley, Jessie, me, Karina, Kacey, and Mir. Since we were a large group we were anxious about not being able to meet either Tom or Zendaya. Crowds can be overwhelming so we tried to keep our distance. While walking back we saw Darnell putting Noon in the car, and Miranda greeted him. HE WAS SO NICE YOU GUYS. I want to create a stan account for him. I love him so much.
We stood outside because it was just us and another girl who had met Zendaya already because we figured at the very least, we would see her walk into her trailer. I turned around to watch the crew clean up and put equipment back in the trucks, and by the time I turned back around, Zendaya was standing right there. I probably looked really fucking dumb in this moment because the only thing I could do was smile. I think I said “Oh shit, hi!” and she said “Hi guys, how are you”. It was a little awkward. I don’t know why I expected her to be different, but she seemed smaller in a way. She was out of costume, wearing Storm’s shirt, and her hair was down. If she was wearing makeup, it was minimal. Her eyes were fucking gorgeous, and when she talked to us it felt like we were talking to a friend. She really makes an effort to make eye contact with each person and make sure they all get to say something. When she looked at me, I swear I saw God. She smiled and I think she glanced at my kizzmet necklace, but I was too shy to say anything and didn’t want to take away anyone else’s time with her, so I just kind of agreed with what everyone else was saying. (“of course!” when she thanked us for coming, laughing when she said she had seen us rocking with them all day, agreeing that we got up early to see them work, and confirming that we would probably see them later in the week.) She was so fucking sweet, and thanked us for being there, and said she wanted to come say hi to us all day. Then someone said “I like what you and Tom were doing with your legs at the end of that take, that was funny” or something like that, and she laughed and said, “Someone told us we should do something funny to say hi to you guys, so we asked to do another take.” Like- they really did that for us. I have to cry. I think I said “oh my god, we thought that might be for us, but we didn’t want to assume-” and she said “no yeah, it was!”. Finally we said that we loved her and that she was so beautiful and she said that we were all so beautiful. I must have missed that because my brain stopped functioning every time we made eye contact. I am such a fucking dork…. She took a picture with someone else then I asked Bayley to ask her to take a group photo, because she needed to get home. She said “of course!” and took it on Bayley’s phone. Then she thanked us again and told us to have a good night, so we walked away. We could not believe that had just happened…. And when her car left, we waved, and Tom’s car did too. We freaked out a little. I called my mom.
Then we ended up talking to a really lovely PA who was genuinely impressed that we knew what the project was and all of the locations. We told her about how we all met via Twitter, and she said that she admired our dedication. Mostly, we talked to her about how she got her job (in general, not for this film). Then we thanked her for being so lovely and said that she did a great job with crowd control (because she did, she always kindly asked us to move and was nice when we complied). We also joked around with her because throughout the day, people kept thinking she was Zendaya (lol), but she said that Z was really nice and was really happy that we got to meet her. She gave us her instagram, hugged us and mentioned that it would be a five day shoot. I should note that I said her name in my instagram live, but I honestly regret that now. She ended up making her account private and I felt awful because fans were invading her DM’s. I did not want to get her in trouble. She was so kind to us. Please, if you know who she is, and found her account, do not bother her.
Then we went home. Mir stayed with me that night because she lives far from the school set. I could not believe that I had met Zendaya and that I got to do it with people I met because of Zendaya. It truly felt like a dream, the whole day did. And I hope that everyone reading this gets to experience this as well. I only walked into this thinking that I would *possibly* see them film a scene, that I would *possibly* provide content for you guys. I never anticipated meeting her. I never anticipated the love she showed us all day. Tom either. I will go to bed with a smile on my face for the rest of my life, I think.
Saturday
We were not chosen as extras. So this ended up being a problem when we realized that the set location would be inside and closed. Miranda and Jessie had heard from our PA friend that you could see if they were giving out vouchers to be an extra, so they ended up going inside, kindly asking a bunch of PAs where to go, and then were yelled at by a crew member. Honestly, if there was a secret blacklist for the set, we were probably on it. When the casting notice was advertised by everyone and their mother, fans with no acting or background experience probably flooded their email server. To the poor interns who had to filter through those, I am so sorry. We saw Remy and Darnell in the morning, but did not want to say hi and bother them (this was a common theme this weekend).. The crew was so intimidating and we didn’t want to get in trouble. Plus it was freezing and raining, so we ended up going home. We did not intend to come back, but we kept reminding ourselves that Zendaya told us she expected to see us throughout the week. So like crackheads, we went back to set.
We met Zach who was super sweet, and saw Remy with the crew. I don’t know why but every single time we saw Remy, we were too shy to say hi. I wanted to tell him that I saw Crazy Rich Asians 6 times and that my mom’s cousin was also in the movie, or even just to congratulate him on the film’s success. RIP to that concept. BUT ZACH WAS SO NICE! We apologized for the awkward greeting the day before and he joked that he gets nervous in front of Jacob too. We congratulated him on being in the film and asked him what the experience had been like. He was so happy to talk about it and thanked us for coming and being so respectful. We got a picture with him, thanked him again, and then he asked if we were from NY and we said “we go to school here!” and he said “here?” (asking about the high school set), so we said no and clarified. Apparently he has friends at Mir’s university. We love that.
It was just a few of us waiting by Z’s trailer, until it wasn’t. And then these mom’s and their kids showed up, and autograph collectors too. When Zendaya left her trailer and walked to her car, people started running after her. We were so disappointed that people are so fucking selfish, and we just stood there, waving as her car left. We just wanted her to know that we were there for Day 2 and wanted to support her, but I want to note that we weren’t upset about not being able to take individual photos or anything like that.
Then we saw commotion outside of the wardrobe trailer and realized that Tom had come back to change out of costume. There were probably 20+ people in a group waiting. When he did come out, most people just took a picture with him and walked away, not really saying anything to him at all. He did get to meet real fans that were kind to him and spoke to him. They know who they are and they know that I personally do not think they specifically mobbed Tom. But it was a crowd full of people, and we felt bad, so we left.
Mir, Jessie and I ended up walking over to the PA we had met the day before, and she was with Zach. I said “I feel so bad, they just mobbed Tom” and the PA thanked me because she said the crowd never should have formed in the first place. The funny thing about this was that Remy, Jacob, Zach, and even Angourie were standing right there, and the locals who wanted a picture with Tom didn’t even notice. We said hi to Jacob as he walked by. Remy left. I did not get to see Angourie. Then we talked to Zach about crowds of fans and how for us, when we realized we would not be able to get to talk to Tom we walked away. For us it really wasn’t about getting the picture. I know that sounds like I am putting myself on some kind of moral pedestal, but I genuinely mean that. I only wanted them to know how much it meant to me to see them and how happy I was that they were all together again. Zach thanked us for being respectful, and we got to talk to him a little more about fans and Europe. He was so great, and said thank you, and left. We also saw Tony leave, and then so did we.
Sunday
Sunday there were two locations, so Jessie, Miranda and I went to the Manhattan one. We figured we would stop there in the morning and then the school in the afternoon. We decided to sit at tables near where they were filming, and a PA came up to us, and asked us to move because they were filming a movie. We apologized and feigned ignorance, and moved where they asked us too. Eventually they stopped letting people into that area, so if they got a wide shot, we may have been in it. The scene itself was just a bus turning the corner and pedestrians walking. It was very anticlimactic. On twitter, I talked a little bit about my struggle with anxiety. On Sunday, the lack of sleep, dehydration, and energy got to me. I could not eat or sleep because of how anxious I was becoming and I ended up going home home to see my family. Though I regret letting anxiety get in the way, it was nice to take a deep breath and step away from the craziness for a minute. I gave Miranda a letter that I wrote to Zendaya and asked her to hug her for me. She delivered it to Darnell who said he would give it to Z. Hopefully she reads it. It really just said thank you and that this weekend made me so happy. I talked about how through her I have made friends from all over the world, and then said that it meant everything to support her because of how much she has inspired and empowered me. I meant every word. I signed it from Miranda too. Later she called Miranda and Jessie, along with other fans, her friends. I could not have been happier for them <3
Monday
Monday I got to sleep in finally. I went to a meeting. I planned on going to class. Then Miranda texted and said her evening class was canceled. . . so we decided to skip our afternoon class and go to Newark airport. Someone really should have stopped us. We met up with two other fans but kept our distance because we did not want to appear as a group. We saw the whole cast (including king, Martin Starr) filming an arrival scene. I talked to an extra who actually works for United Airlines, and she was super sweet. She said that they had been filming a terminal scene practically all day. We could not see much of the scene because of all of the extras, but we do know Flash gets picked up by a fancy driver with “Thompson” written on an iPad. The scene itself was quite short, and honestly reminded of the scene in Homecoming when they get picked up after DC. We saw Tom for a few seconds as Peter, and then him and Zendaya dancing in between takes. Also, we may be in the background of that scene as well. Then, they wrapped. We had been there for the wrap at Penn Station and it was exciting, but something about this wrap was different. Everyone was hugging and cheering and we all clapped. I did not realize this until the next day, but that night, the supporting cast had wrapped on the movie. I feel genuinely grateful to have experienced that with them, even from afar. They did not stop for fans before leaving together, but we did not expect them too. Hopefully they celebrated afterwards!
Tuesday
Day 5/5. We knew this was the last day because our PA friend had told us, but when the supporting cast posted about wrapping, and then Tom did as well, it became real. Miranda, Jessie and I met up at 7:30am in Brooklyn and saw the crew setting up. At this point we knew that the crew knew who we were, but what would they have said to us? At times, they made comments such as “you guys are here again?” and we would just say “yup”. It was frustrating that some of the crew did not understand that we were not there to get autographs or pictures but rather to see the cast, say hello and thank you, and watch the production take place. We would have put our phones away if asked. There is a fine line between locals who want pictures with the cast for retweets, autograph collectors who are only interested in making money, fans who are there to get pictures and go home, and fans who were there to support the cast with or without getting a picture. Some people really did not know how to act, and the entitlement and disrespect jumped out multiple times. We tried to be patient and respectful, which I think the crew appreciated.
Our group missed Tom taking pictures with fans by literally seconds. I ended up going home for a 12:15 acting class and missed him filming the scene at Delmar’s deli. Jessie and Mir have tweets about it though, and I am sure you have seen the set photos. I came back around 4. I was so sad to have missed seeing Tom play Peter and shoving doritos down his throat, but I was so happy that Miranda, Liz, Maria, and Jessie got such great photos and videos.
I hope you guys don’t mind, but let me just talk about the group of friends I made this weekend for a second. Troy, Maria, Mir, Jessie, and Liz are practically my family now. Those who get noticed by tomdaya together, stay together. We always shared food, got each other hot chocolates from Dunkin (the amount of hot chocolates we consumed was disgusting… our blood stream was comprised of 33% hot chocolate.), cuddled, and laughed together. At nights we got cold and delirious and laughed at pretty much anything. We also got super emo, and at a ramen restaurant, we went around talking about how much this weekend has meant for us. It was super soft. For most of us, Zendaya, Marvel (and Spider-man specifically) has inspired us, saved us, and given us a reason to wake up in the morning. As dramatic and cliche as it may sound, coming to set even just to watch them film, and hear them shout “Rolling!” gave us something to look forward to. Even if we had bouts of anxiety or depression, we were all here for each other. We hugged and hugged, and headed to the night shoot for the final scenes. Crowds formed, but many were disappointed to learn that Tom was not there. The scene took place at what appeared to be a makeshift homeless shelter, and there were signs saying “The Salvation Army”. There was also a spider-man cutout outside of the shelter. The scene itself was supposed to be “a Sunday evening stroll” so extras simply walked by, the train went by, and two cars drove down the street. Over and over. I laughed because it reminded me of the fanfic Double Life, even though Tom and Z were not on set for this shot. Then it appeared they had wrapped, because the extras went back to holding. We decided to stay, even though fans left to see if Tom was at his trailer. He posted that he was on his way to shoot his last scene, so we stayed on our corner. At this point, it was probably less than 50 degrees (F) outside. We were cold, kind of delirious, but wanted to see them wrap and were hopeful that Tom would come say hi to us. He, Harry, and his PA’s arrived and went inside. The scene was shot on the roof of the building so we could not see exactly what happened. (Sorry!) Then we saw people on the roof hug, and knew they had wrapped. There were maybe 20 fans total there. Maybe. When Tom came out, he waved at us, walked into his car, then came out. We’re pretty sure he was about to come over and talk to us, but one “fan” ran over to his car and literally tried to push past a security guard. If we had a chance of him coming over, it was ruined. He got into the car, then stopped it right in front of us and rolled down the window to wave and say “hi” and “thank you.” We congratulated him on wrapping and then he drove away. He was wearing the varsity spider-man jacket that the cast and crew got today as a wrap present. After he left, our group took some pictures, congratulated crew members, and said goodbye. I miss all of them already! It was such an honor to be there not only to see them film, but to see them from the first take to the last in nyc, and to see them finish the project they have been working on all summer. I could tell they were all relieved to go home.
Thursday
After Tuesday night I tried (and failed) to get my life back together following the craziest 5 days of my life. On Thursday, I slept in late, attended a club meeting, ordered some food, and put laundry in the wash, when I got a text from Miranda that Tom would be on the Jimmy Kimmel show. At first I was super confused, I hadn’t read the text correctly, I didn’t understand that Jimmy was filming in Brooklyn for his show because I knew he generally filmed in Los Angeles, and I didn’t understand why Tom would be on the show. I told her and Jessie that I couldn’t go, because I had class at 4:35 and laundry in the dryer. Nevertheless, I went. I took my roommate with me, and saw a long line outside of the Brooklyn Academy of Music. I circled around to see any sign of Tom, and spotted his car near stage door. He was already inside. I weighed my options carefully. It was cold, I was busy, I had laundry in the dryer in a community building. I wanted to go home, but something in me told me I had to stay. My roommate left and wished me good luck, and I decided to text Maria, who I mentioned earlier in this post as part of the group of girls who visited set all 5 days. She was luckily already there. We decided to get on line for Jimmy Kimmel because I knew one of the workers, who used to work on a show I did background work and had attended audience tapings for several times. We talked and I asked if there was a stand by line, he said he would help but could only get us individual tickets. We took them anyway. At first I didn’t even know if Tom would be on the show, but luckily, he did a skit with Guillermo and the crowd went wild. New York truly loves Tom Holland’s Spider-man.
Typically you’re not allowed to leave if you’re filling an audience for a taping of a live show. Somehow we left after Tom’s skit, and didn’t have to explain ourselves to anyone. Thank you, Universe. We went back to where I saw Tom’s car and they were moving it to the Stage Door. There were less than 10 people standing behind a barricade, so we stood there too. The other people there were not there for Tom, and didn’t even know he was on the show. Less than 10 minutes later, Tom came out. He waved, and I said “Hi Tom, how are you?” And he said “good thanks,” and I said “can we please get a picture?” And he said “yeah sure, let me just put this in my car” so Maria and I waited. At that point, the others behind the barricade started asking for pics and autographs (lol) so we waited for them to go first even though both us, and Tom knew we had asked first. He came over and I greeted him again, saying “hi how are you thank you for doing this” and he said “good thanks, no problem, do you want me to take it?” And I said, “yes please!” And handed him my phone. He took the picture, said thank you and then greeted Maria. He had been smiling his typical dorky closed smile that we love so much, until Maria said it was amazing seeing him on set. He laughed into a smile and said, “you did? you guys were on set? That’s awesome” and took the picture, then handed back her phone. I felt like an idiot because I couldn’t stop talking. So I said “We went all 5 days to support you guys, it was so amazing to see you do what you love” and he looked me in the eyes, smiled and said “thank you so much, that’s amazing” and signed another couple of autographs. Then he said he had to go and walked back to his car so we said “thank you, have a good night!” And I said “congratulations on wrapping Spider-man Far From Home! Can’t wait to see it.” And he gave us a ✌🏽 sign. He was lovely. It was a brilliant way to wrap this week. I hugged and hugged Maria, went to Target and bought a pair of pants, then almost got run over for walking across the street with my head in the clouds. We love that.
Overview.
Earlier this year, my RA asked us to make a bucket list for the school year. I wanted to put “Meet Zendaya” on it, but chose not to because I thought it was an unrealistic goal. I did not walk into this weekend thinking that I would meet her and Tom, I did not walk into this weekend expecting to see them film a spideychelle scene. I did not expect to see and meet the majority of the cast. I never ever thought that I could meet so many mutuals and become so close to them within such a short period of time. I could not be more grateful for the past 6 days. It felt like a dream that is so hard to wake up from. I cannot wait to see the movie and cry as soon as I see the scenes that they filmed right in front of my eyes.
As for Tomdaya tea, I will say this. There are a lot of pictures of Zendaya smiling while filming the scene with Tom as Spider-man. I hope you all know that if she is smiling in the picture, that is ZENDAYA not MJ. MJ is frightened during the scene, then a little uncomfortable, then concerned. Her expressions during the scene were serious. But in between takes, her and Tom laughed, joked around, danced, made fun of us, waved to other fans, talked to Jon, Harry etc. It was very windy, so yes Tom helped fix her hair at points. It became a problem during the scene because her hair would cover her face. They would cut, laugh about it, and would go again. However, that video of them play fighting and running in place, then hugging, was just them tiring themselves out and picking up where they left off from the other scene. That does not take away from the fact that it was super cute. Zendaya looked so genuinely happy, and it made ME happy to see her so happy. I couldn’t see Tom’s face with the mask on, but I just know he had a dorky smile on his face the whole time. They both were so comfortable with each other. I cannot wait to see Michelle and Spider-man’s dynamic in the film. We really went from Peter Parker not saying a single line to MJ, (except as Spidey) to them being an iconic duo. We stan. And yes, I have theories about what will happen between them, but for now, i’ll leave it at this.
Thank you all for congratulating us and being so sweet. It was an honor to provide you with content, and of course, DM me or send me CCs if you have questions. Hope you all have a great week, go see Spider-Man Far From Home in theatres July 5, 2019. <3
xo, Marisa

Florence’s rendition of Jenny of Oldstones got me thinking about a “theory” I had puzzled together regarding who “Jenny” is, from other theory threads. It’s really less of a theory and more a list of similarities between Jenny of Oldstones, the song and person, with the ladies in ASOIAF.
Most of my ideas are built on the discussion in this thread.
In ASOIAF we have multiple ladies who could take the mantle of “Jenny of Oldstones”.
Arya: “Jenny dances with her ghosts in the high hall of kings”, and Catelyn describes Shella Whent like this “Last of her line, dwelt with her ghosts in the cavernous vaults of Harrenhal”. Harrenhal was fucked over by fire same as Summerhall. There’s also a witch type figure related to Harrenhal with Danelle Lothston. Arya has many “ghosts” with her, her family obviously, the friends she found and lost. The ghosts yet to be, the people on her list etc. Arya would train aka “dance” in the Godswood at Harrenhal. And I suppose her little plot and scheming against the people occupying Harrenhal and her helping the northern prisoners could also be considered a “dance”. (A bit of a reach with the last part)
Catelyn: I don’t think I need to say much here. Her ghosts are her family, in her mind she has lost everyone, father, the sister she knew, husband, all her children. She has pretty much no one left and then she dies as well only be resurrected and become Lady Stoneheart. So instead of Jenny of Oldstones, it would be Jenny of Old Stones, not the place but what she literally is.
Sansa: I consider her to be a weak contender for the title, though if he gets to Winterfell in the next book she might match it better. Jenny had the flowers in her hair, and in Joffrey’s wedding she was wearing the hairnet with the Strangler poison (made from a plant). There is also mention of the song in her first chapter in AFFC.
Jeyne Westerling: Prince Duncan broke his betrothal to marry Jenny while traveling in the riverlands, Robb broke is betrothal to marry Jeyne while traveling in the riverlands. Robb and Catelyn actually goes to Oldstone and we get this little nugget “Oldstones, all the smallfolk called it when I was a girl, but no doubt it had some other name when it was still a hall of kings.” Obviously this is the original reference in the song, though Summerhall and Harrenhal also fits thematically. (There’s also a connection with roses here that can be tied to Ghost but that’s neither here nor there). It also seems like Maggy the Frog might be Jeyne’s great grandmother, tying her in with a witch. Her “ghosts” would obviously be Robb and the other people who when all that went down. And I guess she might consider her mother dead as well after what she did. The “ghost” part is a beat weak, but the rest is a nice match. (Also Jeyne -> Jenny).
Jeyne Poole: The second Jeyne on the list, and one I first dismissed. Winterfell, the place Jeyne has spent most of her life, and the place she was imprisoned and married to Ramsay pretending it was Arya Stark, is an old place and was burned by Ramsay. So it parallels with Harrenhal and Summerhall that way. It also used to be the home of kings pre-conquest. Winterfell is referenced as having ghost many times, and the crypts certainly have a fair share of dead people buried there as well as the old stone statues of dead kings, lords and ladies. This might just be the show lyrics I’m not sure but “And into the night through the snow that swept through the hall” would fit Winterfell rather nicely. Jeyne has plenty of ghosts of her own, losing pretty much everyone she knows except for Sansa, which might as well be lost to her as well. The “dance” part is weak though, I suppose pretending to be Arya could be considered a dance?
Lyanna Stark: Repeat what I said about Winterfell above, but add in a few more things. Lyanna is now literally a stone statue. Directly quoting the thread here “Summerhall also saw the birth of Rhaegar who may have written Jenny's song, who may have been behind the tourney at Harrenhal, who gave a crown of flowers to Lyanna”. Rhaegar also abducted/left with Lyanna in the riverlands, and she was already betrothed. Lyanna has plenty of ghosts with her entire family + Jon. Lyanna is in a way always dancing, Ned dancing around the subject of Jon Snow and Lyanna, Robert and his whole deal with Lyanna. She is the only one on my list that’s already dead though, but she fits too nicely with Jenny of Oldstones for it to be ignored.
Daenerys Targaryen: Personally I don’t see her connected with Jenny the same way as the other ladies, but there are some similarities worth mentioning. Mirri Maz Duur is the witch in Dany’s story, and MMD danced with ghosts. Dany walked a hall lined with the ghosts of kings in a fever dream. The dragon eggs were “turned to stone”. Could also be connected with Dragonstone where Dany was born. Dany got some ghosts that for sure.
And that’s about it, as I said less really of a theory and more of a list of some ASOIAF ladies and how their themes blend into eachother and match Jenny of Oldstones. Also a minor shoutout to Arianne Martell, she might also fit into this whole thing, but I don’t really see it and I’m tired so if someone wanna convince me go for it.

Interviewing Gnarstalgia Creator and Skateboarder, Brian Denison.
Brian and I both grew up in the Dallas area and around similar crowds/parks, however we’ve only skated together a handful of times. Despite this, we’ve always kept in touch. About 6 months ago, we got on a call together after speaking online since he has since moved to Colorado, (I’m envious, btw) and we talked about skateboarding and current projects. We quickly realized that our interests in creating something out of all our past skate stories, old footage, and current skills were very much aligned.
Among other projects and ideas, Brian went on to tell me about his new website Gnarstalgia which came with the tagline, “20 years. 80 tapes. 160 hours of stoke.” This, of course, references the 160 hours of skateboarding he has transferred from VHS-C, Hi-8, and Digi-8 tapes into organized and edited videos. After checking it out, I was amazed how much work he put into his edits and the website as a whole. I became super excited about the possibilities of this, (until now) lost footage. We decided to collaborate on a bunch of future skateboarding-inspired projects including my Lost Skate Spots series, some upcoming documentaries & videos, as well as this interview which will focus on his website and Brian himself. Enjoy.
First things first, tell me a little about how you got into skateboarding?
"Haha, yeah, I started skating in early 1999 after playing the snowboarding game Cool Boarders 3 on the first Playstation. I was pretty good at it and was sure I would be good in real life too if I could only get the chance to ride one, but I lived in Corpus Christi, TX, which is about as far from snow as you can get. So my mom told me if I learned to skateboard first, she’d take me snowboarding. I busted out an old Nash I had gotten when I was six and literally rode it till the wheels fell off. I remember one, along with its individual ball bearings rolling down the driveway, but from there, I was hooked. Soon after I started, we moved up to Dallas and I would go ride out in front of my house and at the local school. By then, THPS had just come out and the popularity was exploding. We had a whole grip of kids, like 15-20 that would skate with us. Around that same time I started going to Eisenbergs, and that’s really where I started to meet all the homies. I was there almost every day, and skating solidified into pretty much the only thing I cared about."  -- BD
What's your involvement/history with Dallas Skate Crew?
"I knew a lot of the dudes from skating at Eisenbergs. Mostly Juan, Anthony, Murph, and folks like that. But I really spent most of my time hanging out with Sturgeon, Severs, Kyle, James, Shawn, and Jojo. There were a bunch of smaller, random skate crews back then, and they all had different names. Even though I lived in Plano (ugh, I know), I spent most of my time in Garland and Rowlett. I remember Corey Rosales was all about “RSC” - Rowlett Skate Crew. So a lot of us repped that for a while. But as I got older, I was spending more time with the DSC dudes, especially Darby and David Pool. By then it seemed like a lot of the crews were all homies anyway, and DSC was definitely the main one. I had gotten into graffiti and learned how to draw DSC in like a thousand different ways on all my school notebooks. Like a nerdy little kid, I’m pretty sure I asked Anthony or Juan or somebody if it was cool if I rep DSC too, and they were like “Yeah man of course!” So I was stoked, haha. Pretty funny in retrospect, but from my perspective we were all just one big ass group of friends and it was fun to have something like that that held the crew together. I remember Anthony had written a small bit about the history of DSC on this super old website too. Probably super long defunct now. But it was about how the whole thing got started when they were young too. OG shit. It’s rad to be a part of it all, and much respect to all the homies."  -- BD
What was one of your favorite skating memories from filming?
"Dude, I’ve got so many! But the best one probably has to do with when Kyle Estes ollied the old 16 stair at Richardson High School. I think it’s a 20 now, but in the same spot. I remember Kyle was only 12 at the time, so the set was literally 4 more stairs than he was old. Insane! He was obsessed with Baker back then, and we all were like oh shit! This is definitely gonna get you on the team! He repped Baker hard, and had also just done a PERFECT backside flip down the Garland 9, so dude was on fire. I think it was Kyle, Sturgeon, Shawn, Jojo and me there that day. After like 10 slams, he ended up getting the rollaway (check out the footage below!). But a few months after that, another local, Tyler Maguffee, told me he wanted to fs board it. Tyler, Jojo and me went to go check it out and ended up bondo-ing the crack in front of the rail so he could hit it. But as luck would have it, we got caught. We tried to play it off, like we were students there who had tripped and fallen on the stairs and wanted to fix the crack. Security did NOT fall for it though, haha. The next time we went back, they had skate-stopped it. SHIT! Sad to say it, but don’t think it ever got skated again. Fast forward a decade or so, and I’m working on Gnarstalgia, but one of the only tapes I can’t find is the one with Kyle’s 16 stair ollie. So bummed. Then one day while I was hanging out with David Pool, I told him about the project I was working on, and how I wish I had that tape. By some magic of the universe he looked me dead in my eye and goes “Bro… I know where it is.” He then walked over to a safe, cracked it open, and inside was not just the “Kyle 16 Stair Ollie” tape, but also several of his own that he had filmed. What a lucky break! We took the photo below out of sheer disbelief. So huge shoutout to David for keeping that thing safe all these years."  -- BD
What skateboarders, pro or otherwise, inspire you most?
"My favorite skater right now is probably Robert Neal. Dude has the sickest style, and always looks like he’s having the best time on and off his board. But in general, I’m just glad to still get to skate as much as I do. And to still have plenty of other people to skate with who love it just as much as me. It’s those who never lost the love for it who I find most inspiring. "  -- BD
Tell me about your recently released project Gnarstalgia.com and how it came to be.
"So I spent a ton of time filming in the early 2000s. I would capture my footage each week, and edit all kinds of montages and sponsor-me tapes for the homies. I was on pace to release a video around ‘03 or ‘04. But this was during the time peer-to-peer sharing sites like Limewire and Kazaa were super popular. So in addition to logging multiple gigs of footage onto my poor little 56k computer, I was also downloading tons of other shit that was riddling my computer with viruses. And of course, I was not smart enough to back up my work on an external hard drive. The computer crashed and I lost practically all of it. The only things that were salvaged were the original tapes and any edits I had transferred over to them. I then spent the next year re-uploading everything and backing it up on external hard drives, completely determined to still release the video. But of course, I didn’t learn my lesson about Limewire and Kazaa, and kept downloading shit. Before long, the computer AND the external hard drives were also destroyed by viruses and I lost it all again. That pretty much killed any fire I had left in me, and I just gave up on filming and editing for a long, long time. It wouldn’t be till college that I started to dabble again. But in all the years since I lost the edits, I knew I wanted to make a video using the old shoeboxes full of VHS-C, Hi-8, and Digi-8 tapes I had sitting in the closet. I knew it would be a years-long endeavor, so I kept putting it off. Around 2018 though, I realized I was coming up on 20 years of skating, and releasing a video with all that long-lost footage seemed the perfect way to celebrate. By then, I had lost touch with a lot of the main people in the video. I’m sure they never expected to see that footage again. Out of nowhere, the name Gnarstalgia just popped in my head and the thought of surprising everyone with it got me super amped to get started. But it took a full year to make it through all 80 tapes, capturing each fun clip and trick. From there, I had to start editing. I barely knew how to use Premiere, so I spent tons of time watching tutorials on YouTube to learn how to use overlays, mattes, color correction, logo animations, and troubleshoot countless problems that popped up. I really enjoyed it too. I was having a blast! But after the pandemic began, I decided to double down. This was the perfect time to dive in and really finish the whole thing. Finally, 2.5 years after I started the project, the whole thing was done. Two trailers, a 20-year recap, Eisenbergs Edit, Street Edit, Park Edit and Demo Edit. Plus a website featuring tons of long-lost montages and video parts from some of Dallas’ most well-known skaters. And all starting with some of their earliest footage. I think the name Gnarstalgia really does capture it. It truly is 20 years. 80 tapes. 160 hours of stoke."  -- BD
Where can people connect with you online and check out your stuff? [LINKS BELOW]
"You can find all 55+ videos on gnarstalgia.com, as well as the Gnarstalgia YouTube. Follow @gnarstalgia_video on Instagram for highlights, unused clips, and tons of other old footage submitted from all your favorite Dallas skaters and filmers. P.S. Huge shoutout to Jon Snyder (@Mini_Ramp), Mo Duncan Jr (@ModuncanJr), David Pool (@Timothy_Leary), Darby (@Darby_McVay), and everyone else for contributing old Dallas footage as well. And to Eric Kuhns for all the killer stuff he’s been putting out the last few years as well. You guys have made the project even more rewarding and enjoyable than I ever could have expected. Cheers! And keep skating 🤙 "  -- BD
Final Thoughts:
I’d like to thank Brian for taking the time to do this interview and I can’t recommend his website enough. Dallas has produced so many shredders and Gnarstalgia.com shows off so much of what has made the skateboarding scene here so amazing. I’d also like to add that this was one of my favorite interviews I’ve ever done and I can’t wait to create and collab more with Brian.
Additionally, check out the latest Lost Skate Spots episode where I discuss the now shutdown, Freestyle Skatepark. We hear Brian tell us a story from back in the day as well as share some footage for an edit he filmed that includes Bam Margera, Ed Templeton, Billy Marks, tons of locals, and more.

The blood of Winterfell
Shoutout to @qinaliel who put this idea in my head!!! Thanks 😘 my friend.
The phrase “the blood of Winterfell” only comes up 4 times over all 5 five books, two times in connection to Jon, once when Sansa thinks of herself and another time in ADOD unconnected to any “real” starks. The last instance makes me believe that this might be a subtle, but direct clue at who will rule Winterfell in the future (hint: it’s Jon and Sansa).
First the three book passages in which this phrase is used to describe Jon and Sansa:
“Then you must do what needs to be done,” Qhorin Halfhand said. “You are the blood of Winterfell and a man of the Night’s Watch.”
A Clash of Kings, Jon VI
Ygritte was with him, laughing at him, shedding her skins till she was naked as her name day, trying to kiss him, but he couldn’t, not with his father watching. He was the blood of Winterfell, a man of the Night’s Watch.
A Storm of Swords, Jon VI
I am not your daughter, she thought. I am Sansa Stark, Lord Eddard’s daughter and Lady Catelyn’s, the blood of Winterfell. She did not say it though.
A Feast for Crows, Sansa I
And here’s the last one when Stannis states that Arnolf Karstark has stark blood in him, the blood of Winterfell, when discussing that he would rather give Winterfell to him than “Lady Lannister” or other claimants, after Jon declines his offer to be named Jon Stark and Warden of the North once again. This passage is a bit longer, just to get the context across properly. (Emphasis by me)
“Horpe and Massey aspire to your father’s seat. [...] Which would you rather have as Lord of Winterfell? The smiler or the slayer?
Jon said, “Winterfell belongs to my sister Sansa.”
“I have heard all I need of Lady Lannister and her claim.” The king set up the cup aside. “You could bring the north to me. Your father’s bannermen would rally to the son of Eddard Stark. Even Lord Too-Fat-to-Sit-a-Horse. White Harbor would me a ready source of supply and a secure base to which I could retreat in need. It is not too late to amend your folly, Snow. Take a knee and swear that bastard sword to me, and rise as Jon Stark, Lord of Winterfell and Warden of the North.”
How many times will he make me say it? “My sword is sworn to the Night’s Watch.”
Stannis looked disgusted. “Your father was a stubborn man as well. Honor, he called it. Well, honor has its costs, as Lord Eddard learned to his sorrow. If it give you any solace, Horpe and Massey are doomed to disappointment. I am more inclined to bestow Winterfell upon Arnolf Karstark. A good northman.”
“A northman.” Better a Karstark than a Bolton or a Greyjoy, Jon told himself, but the thought gave him little solace. “The Karstarks abandoned my brother amongst his enemies.”
“After your brother took off Lord Rickard’s head. Arnolf was a thousands leagues away. He has Stark blood in him. The blood of Winterfell.
A Dance with Dragons, Jon IV
GRRM uses this specific phrase veeery sparsely, he so far refrained from using it in connection to the other remaining Starks - Arya, Bran and Rickon -, even though applying it to them would make sense, but he brings it up when discussing the next potential Lord of Winterfell, unrelated to any “real” stark. This choice of words and their use strike me as very deliberate, especially since both Jon’s and Sansa’s (the only other two characters who have been described this way) claim to WF come up in this very conversation as well.
Maybe a hidden clue to who will rule Winterfell in the future? “The blood of Winterfell” - Jon and Sansa.

You’d be lying if you said you weren’t overly excited for the concert. The past week you’ve been playing strictly clipping. Clipping. was the only thing that felt right during your commutes around the city. You knew a fair amount of songs by the time the concert rolled around. Doors were at 8 but you decided to be in the area at 7:30, there was a small line but it wasn’t anything crazy. Everyone seemed to be chill and friendly, there was excited chatter about clipping. but most of it was centered around Daveed.
“I’m just saying if he wanted to pull me backstage I would not mind.” A girl to your left spoke to her group of friends.
They all burst into laughter and you quietly agreed in your head as you unlocked your phone.
“Hey Rafael!”
You looked up, a few people in line were calling out to Rafael who was walking past. You two connected eyes for a second and he did a double take before walking to you.
“Hey! You came.” Rafa smiled, tucking his hand into his pockets.
“Of course! Studio versions of songs are amazing but there’s something about live performances, you know?”
“Yeah, I feel that.” Rafa nodded in agreement.
You shifted uncomfortably under the stares of some people in line, was Rafael a big deal around here as well?
“I told him I was down the block and he still isn’t out here waiting for me. Can you believe how I get treated?”
You chuckled, looking at the front door of the venue.
“Maybe he’s busy soundchecking? Or his phone isn’t on him?” You shrugged, watching as Rafael pulled his phone out of his pocket.
“Let’s try this again.” Rafa sighed, clicking call and putting the phone to his ear.
“Oh, so you can answer your phone but not answer a text? Luckily I had Y/N out here to entertain me or I would’ve died of boredom.”
Rafael smiled as you chuckled.
“Mhmmmm.” Rafa dragged out his response, looking you up and down. You raised a brow, tugging at the neckline of your shirt to cover your chest a bit more. You weren’t showing it all but you weren’t the most modest either.
“Yeah, and she expects an amazing show. Also, she thinks you should come get me from outside, I’m out here with food that’s getting cold.”
You glanced down and noted the plastic bag hanging from Rafael’s left hand.
“Finally. Jesus.” Rafa groaned dramatically, taking the phone from his ear and hanging up.
“You are the definition of a drama queen.” You snickered.
“I’ll happily admit that I am.” Rafa winked at you before glancing over at the now open front door. Daveed popped his head out of the doorway, scanning the area for his best friend. Eventually, his eyes landed on you and Rafael. You waved and Daveed waved back before his attention was pulled to some fans in the front of the line who noticed him. You expected Rafa to start walking over to the front door but he looked over at you.
“You know, being on the list means you get early access.”
You furrowed your eyebrows in confusion. Rafael rolled his eyes playfully.
“I’m saying, come inside with me.” Rafa clarified, turning around and walking before you could respond.
You were frozen for a second, still processing what was said but once it clicked you followed behind Rafael to the door. The two of you slipped in behind Daveed who was still talking to the fans in line.
“He’s gonna be a while, the fans tend to favor him.” Rafael said, walking to the bar and setting down the bag of food.
“That smells really good, I should’ve gotten a snack before I left.” You sighed, setting your bag on the countertop.
“I got a bagel if you want half of it.” Rafa pulled out the tinfoil wrapped bagel, holding it out to you.
“You sure? I don’t wanna deprive you of food.” You replied, taking the bagel out of his hand and unwrapping it.
“Go for it, they really packed it this time around. Plus I have another plate of food in here for me. I insist. Rafa flashed you a warm smile.
“Thank you.” You smiled back, taking a half of the bagel and biting into it.
“It’s still kinda warm from the toaster.” You hummed happily, swinging your legs on the bar stool.
Rafa bit into his half, nodding in appreciation.
“This is some good shit right there.” He agreed, opening a bottle of water and taking a sip.
“Would you happen to have another bottle of water in there?”
Rafael rummaged through the bag, pulling out another bottle of water.
“You’re in luck. I do.” He held it out to you. “Can I supply you with anything else?”
You shook your head no, smiling sheepishly.
“Aren’t you supposed to wait for everyone to get their food before you eat?”
You turned around at the sound of Daveed’s voice. He looked good in a shirt that fit him too well, a beanie, black jeans, sneakers and a pair of glasses. The glasses threw you off the most, you never saw them on him before but they made him look even more attractive.
“Weren’t you supposed to be outside waiting for me when I got here?” Rafael retorted, mocking Daveed’s tone.
“Hey!” Rafa yelled out as Daveed snatched the rest of the bagel out of his hand and took a bite.
“You don’t gotta be a jerk.” Rafa mumbled, pulling out a bag of chips.
“You don’t gotta sass me.” Daveed countered, sitting on the other side of you.
“Touché.”
Daveed smirked, running his fingers through his hair.
“That bagel was yours anyway.” Rafa confessed, a smug grin on his face.
Your eyes widened as you looked at the small bit of bagel you still had in your hand. You glanced over at Daveed, who was already looking at you.
“I swear I had no idea, I wouldn’t have eaten it if I had known it was yours.” You rambled, a blush spreading through your cheeks.
“No need to apologize, it’s fine.” Daveed gave you a reassuring smile and took another bite into his bagel.
“Okay good because I wasn’t trying to give this bit of bagel back to you.” You tossed the last piece into your mouth.
Daveed shook his head, continuing to chew instead of responding to you.
“Your tattoo is looking good. Have you been having any issues with it?” Daveed asked, eyes shifting down to your collarbone then continuing a little bit lower to your chest for a split second before returning to your face.
“Nope, it’s been going great. I think it will be fully healed in a few more days.”
Daveed nodded, leaning forward so he could see Rafa.
“Pass me my water please.”
“Yeah…about that…” Rafa’s gaze slowly shifted to the water bottle currently in your hand.
“Why am I friends with you?” Daveed sighed, standing and heading for the back.
“You love me!” Rafa called after him, chuckling.
“I can’t believe you basically gave me Daveed’s food.”
“Oh please, the venue probably gave them a shitload of snacks, he won’t die. He doesn’t like to eat big before a performance anyway.” Rafael tossed his now empty bag of chips into the trash can behind the bar.
“So, did you catch up on your clipping.? Daveed loves it when the crowd knows the words.”
You didn’t like the sly smirk on Rafael’s face, it couldn’t mean anything good.
“Why are you looking at me like that?”
“No reason! Oh, by the way, Daveed favors stage right. Just so you know.”
Rafael gave you a smile as you narrowed your eyes at him.
“You’re not very subtle.”
“I never said I was.” Rafael responded, shrugging and glancing at the stage.
“Just trying to give you the best experience, trust me you will want a front row view for this concert.” Rafael stood up from the stool, cleaning up the bar, “Doors open soon, go claim your spot.”
With those last words, Rafael disappeared backstage and you heeded his advice, taking a spot in the middle of stage right. The room slowly filled with people but it wasn’t to the point where you were crushed. You could move around with ease and dance in your spot if you wanted to. As the lights dimmed, you realized this was really happening. Even as the opener hyped up the crowd and performed, your mind was elsewhere thinking about what was to come. After 40 minutes the opener finished and exited the stage. Immediately the crew came out and moved speakers before disappearing behind the scenes again. When Bill and Jon took the stage and the crowd went wild, adrenaline coursed through your veins at a dizzying speed. Then Daveed jogged on stage with a wide grin. He approached the mic stand, instantly jumping into ‘Get Up’. You bounced to the beat, screaming along with the crowd as Daveed rapped at an insane speed.
“Y’all ready to turn the fuck up?” Daveed yelled as the song came to an end.
You cupped your hands around your mouth and cheered with the crowd.
“Nah, y’all can do better. I said, are you ready to turn the fuck up?” Daveed repeated, smiling as the crowd yelled back with more enthusiasm.
He took the mic off the stand as the second song started, dancing around the stage until the beat dropped. Song after song, Daveed only increased his energy. By the time he neared the end of the set he was drenched in sweat. Every time he shook his head, sweat flew in every direction. He made eye contact with you a few times, giving you a small smile before moving to the other side of the stage. You sang along to every song as if your life depended on it.
“This song is for all the ladies! And everyone else!” Daveed called out as the beginning of Body & Blood played.
This was your hands-down your favorite song by clipping., so you made sure to go all out. The crowd did the same, feeding off the energy Daveed was giving them. Daveed neared your side of the stage and looked you right in the eyes as he rapped.
“She got a diamond tattoo on her upper thigh. Another fineness walks by and cuts eyes. She let her go, she got a bad little body.” Daveed winked as he finished the lyric before turning away and walking towards the other side of the stage.
You bit your lip, watching Daveed control the crowd with his movements and words. He was even more attractive when he was growling lyrics, the veins in his forearms becoming defined. You definitely weren’t prepared for him to take off his shirt and jump into the crowd. The energy spiked immensely, the crowd jumping with Daveed as he finished the last song.
“It’s Clipping., bitch.” Daveed said, jumping back on the stage and putting the mic on the stand. He walked offstage with Jon and Bill in tow, all of them waving as they exited. The lights turned on and you leaned on the stage, still thrumming with adrenaline. What now? You turned around and walked to the bar to get a cup of water. You chugged it down, refilling the cup before turning back to the crowd that wasn’t getting any smaller despite doors being open again. Then you saw the reason why. Daveed, Jon, and Bill were all talking with fans. Daveed had, sadly, put on another shirt. You found yourself observing from across the room, watching Daveed interact with fans. He was genuinely happy, a smile never leaving his face as he went through the big crowd surrounding him. When you looked away to toss out your empty water cup, you realized you were one of the few people still wandering around. Part of you wanted to approach Daveed but the more shy part of you told you to just slip out.
“Enjoyed the show?”
You jumped and looked to your left to see Rafa taking a seat next to you.
“My throat hurts right now and my legs are sore from dancing so I’m gonna go with hell yes.” You chuckled, spinning around to face him.
“I could tell. You are quite the dancer Y/N.”
“You were watching me?” You raised a brow.
“It was hard to keep my eyes off you when you were moving like that.” He shrugged, leaning on the counter with a sly smirk.
“You’re tipsy, aren’t you?” You asked, if you didn’t know any better you would think he was flirting with you.
“Little bit. Alcoholic gummy bears. So many of them.” Rafa chuckled, adjusting the beanie on his head.
“And you didn’t share? I’m hurt.” You clutched your chest as if he had physically hit you.
Rafa rolled his eyes and pulled a plastic bag out of his pocket and put it on the counter, inside was a bunch of gummy bears.
“Go ahead.” He nodded towards the bag.
You opened it and took out three, tossing them into your mouth and savoring the bitter taste of vodka. You took a handful more and tossed them into your mouth.
“Might wanna slow down there.” Rafa laughed, taking a bear out of the bag and tossing it into the air and catching it in his mouth.
“I can do that too.” You said, taking another gummy bear and tossing it into the air but it fell on your nose instead of into your mouth.
“Ah, so close!”
“Fuck off.” You softly elbowed him before grabbing another and tossing it up, this time it fell in your mouth.
You threw your arms up in victory, smirking at Rafael. He clapped sarcastically and you bowed dramatically.
“Thank you. Thank you. I know. What talent. What grace.”
“And I thought I was dramatic.” Rafa rolled his eyes playfully, handing you another gummy bear.
“What are you two up to over here?”
You turned to see Daveed walking towards you with his jacket on his arm, glasses once again on his face. Your nerves kicked into high gear again as he got closer. The question was for both you and Rafa but he was focused on you.
“Some fun adult festivities. Think fast!” Rafa launched a gummy bear towards Daveed who caught it in his mouth.
“Gotta be quicker than that.” Daveed said, chewing on the bear and stopping in front of you and Rafael.
“Yeah yeah yeah.” Rafa responded, nudging the bag toward you, “You can have them if you want.”
“Or, we could get a real drink at a nearby bar.” Daveed suggested, once again turning his attention to you.
“Yeah, drinks sound good. You coming, Rafael?” You turned to him but he was already shrugging his jacket on.
“Nah, I’m smashed enough as it is but, you two have fun.” Rafael smirked, walking off and leaving you and Daveed behind.
You smiled shyly at him, getting off the barstool and picking up the bags of gummy bears. Daveed smiled back, walking to the front door and holding it open for you. You stepped out into the cool night, zipping up your jacket as Daveed followed you out.
“This way.” Daveed nodded up the block.
You fell into step with him, hands in your pockets. You felt like you should say something but for some reason your mouth wouldn’t cooperate. So you both walked in silence for about three blocks before he was opening another door for you. You thanked him and walked inside, looking around.
It was a small bar with a few booths, a jukebox, and a pool table.
“Booth or bar?” Daveed asked, staying behind you.
You headed towards one of the empty booths, Daveed took in the view of your ass as your hips swayed. You slid into one side and Daveed set down his jacket.
“What do you want to drink?”
“Hm, a Piña colada please.”
Daveed nodded and walked off to the bartender. You took a moment to send a quick text to your friends so they knew you were alive and well. You locked your phone as Daveed set your drink down in front of you.
“Thank you.” You said, taking a sip.
“Welcome.” Daveed responded, setting down his drink and sitting.
“I gotta say, you really know how to put on a show. My throat hurts a bit from screaming.”
Daveed grinned at that, some of his nerves melting away.
“I’m glad you had fun. You knew a lot more words than I thought you would.” He admitted, swishing the liquor in his glass.
“So you had no faith in me is what you’re saying.”
“I never said all that now. Just didn’t think you’d learned so much in a week.” He put his hands up as if he was surrendering.
You giggled, taking another sip from your drink.
“Well, I listened to your music fairly often. By that I mean when I was doing literally anything.”
“Is that so? So you must enjoy what you hear.”
“Nah, I go to shows because I hate the music I’m hearing.” You replied sarcastically.
“Ha ha. So funny.” He deadpanned, smiling when you started laughing.
“Don’t ask dumb questions and you won’t get dumb answers.”
“Alright, so no more dumb questions.” Daveed nodded, sipping his drink before setting down his glass, “You look amazing.”
You looked down at your glass, chewing on your lip. Daveed found it rather cute how easily you get flustered.
“You do too, even with the lack of a shirt.” You joked, meeting his gaze again.
“Many seem to like the no shirt look.” He shrugged, folding his arms in front of him.
“I can see why.” You said, eyeing the tattoos on his arm.
It wasn’t a new sight but you loved looking at them.
“Does that mean you liked what you saw?” He raised a brow, tilting his head to the side.
You got distracted by how his curls bounced before getting yourself back on track.
“Who wouldn’t? You look good and you know you look good, Daveed.”
“Well, I’m glad you enjoyed watching me as much as I enjoyed watching you.”
“So you were watching me?” You leaned in closer, giving Daveed a flirtatious smile.
Daveed licked his lips, leaning in as well.
“Mostly out of the corner of my eye, I have to be fair with my attention to the crowd but damn you were distracting. Especially when you were dancing and losing yourself in the music.”
“I wouldn’t have been able to tell with the way you performed. The control you had over the crowd, your stage presence, your energy. It was always at one hundred percent.” Your mind drifted back to the image of shirtless Daveed growling his lyrics.
Daveed noticed the distracted look in your eye but chose not to comment on it.
“I’ve been told I’m good with control. In many different settings.” Daveed lowered his voice, an underlying tone in his words made your thighs tense up involuntarily.
“Is that so? Do you like to be in control?” You quirked a brow, sipping from your glass.
“I thrive off of it. Something about being able to direct something, or someone, however you see fit gives me this rush. Wouldn’t you agree?”
You stirred your drink with your straw, willing your hormones to chill the fuck out but Daveed’s stare was intense and strangely, a turn on.
“I would say I like to be controlled.” You admitted, looking down at the table as Daveed bit his bottom lip.
“Then this should work perfectly.”
“What exactly is this?” You asked, meeting Daveed’s gaze again.
“You tell me.” Daveed challenged, pushing his empty glass aside.
You bit the inside of your flushed cheeks, you could blame it on the alcohol but Daveed wasn’t doing anything to help that.
“I’ll think about it over another drink.” You responded, glancing at the bar.
Daveed chuckled, sliding out the booth and walking back to the bar. You took a deep breath, only one drink in and you already felt the buzz. Daveed set down another Piña Colada in front of you as he sat back down. He refilled his glass as well.
“I want another tattoo, when are you free?”
Daveed seemed surprised by your statement, taking a sip of his drink before answering.
“I could do tomorrow if you want it soon.”
“What time?”
“Anytime.” Daveed shrugged, “What do you want this time?”
“You’ll see tomorrow at 10 PM.” You replied, giggling as Daveed rolled his eyes playfully.
“Alright, alright. This better be good.”
“Oh, trust me. It is.”
After a few more drinks and a lot of flirtatious talk, Daveed paid the tab and walked outside with you. You didn’t think Daveed would be a giggly drunk but trying to get an Uber was a mess of sentence fragments and loud laughing between you two. Eventually, Daveed was able to call an Uber. Daveed got in first and you slid in next, leaning against him as the driver pulled off.
“How you feelin’?” Daveed put his arm around you, watching traffic pass out of the window.
Your eyes were closed as you rested your head on his shoulder, the motion of the car soothing your intoxicated mind.
“Really good. I had a lot of fun.”
“Good, because I don’t want you puking on my nice jeans.” Daveed teased, laughing as you hit his leg.
“Fuck off.”
“I’m joking.” He chuckled, rubbing your back.
You traced patterns on his jeans, sitting in comfortable silence as you drove through the city. Soon the car came to a halt and Daveed shook you lightly.
“I think we’re at your place.” He whispered, slowly moving his arm from around you.
You sat up, looking at your apartment building then at Daveed and making an impulse, alcohol-influenced decision.
“You know…you could come in with me.” You purred, moving closer and placing your hand on his thigh.
Daveed looked at your hand, then your face. He leaned in closer to you and you closed your eyes for a kiss. You didn’t expect it to be on your forehead. You opened your eyes and looked at him with furrowed brows.
“As tempting as that is, you’re drunk. Your mind isn’t all the way there and I don’t want to be that guy.”
That was not the response you were expecting. You sat there, replaying the words in your head as Daveed slid your hand off his leg.
“Goodnight Y/N, I’ll see you tomorrow for your tattoo.” Daveed gave you a warm smile as you opened the car door.
“Goodnight Daveed.” You replied, climbing out of the car and grabbing your bag before closing the door.
You made your way to your building, the Uber driving off once Daveed knew you were safely inside. You got into the elevator, clicking the “3” button and leaning on the wall as you ascended. You shouldn’t have been so shocked by what just happened because he was right, you were pretty tipsy though you could still control yourself. You just didn’t expect him to say no. You made your way to your apartment and unlocked the door. You went through the usual routine of tossing down your bag, taking off your shoes and forcing yourself to brush your teeth because if you didn’t you knew you’d hate yourself in the morning for it. You slipped out of your clothes and put threw on your pajamas before collapsing onto your bed. You were asleep within a matter of seconds.
“I’m leaving now!” Rafa yelled down the hall, throwing his bag on his back.
“What? We don’t close for another hour.” Daveed pointed out, walking to the front of the shop.
“Well, you said Y/N was coming right?”
“Yeah. Why?” Daveed asked, leaning against the counter.
“I want you to be able to do whatever you want. As long as it’s in your station.” Rafa stressed as Daveed rolled his eyes.
“We aren’t fucking in the parlor Rafa, you’re ridiculous.”
“She basically invited you to smash last night! She wants it, Diggs. I’m just giving you the option to give it to her.” Rafa opened the front door, “Have fun!”
Daveed shook his head as he watched Rafa walk down the block. You turned the corner and saw Rafael coming toward you. He began to smile but then his eyes trailed down your body. He whistled, stopping in front of you.
“Goddamn.”
You blushed, tugging at the end of your dress. You were getting the response you wanted though it wasn’t from your original target.
“You like it?” You spun in a circle slowly, putting a hand on your hip.
“You look really good.” Rafa’s eyes slowly raked over your body again before meeting your eyes.
“Thanks! It’s most convenient outfit for the tattoo I want.”
“And where would this tattoo be?” He said suggestively, raising a brow.
“Not where you think, nasty.” You chuckled and starting walking away towards the parlor.
“I’ll see you later Rafael!”
“Have funnnn!” Rafa chuckled to himself, continuing down the block.
You stopped outside the front door and glanced down at your dress. It was a simple summer dress that stopped a little above your knee but, it fit you in the best way possible. You already made the choice to wear it and now you had to own it. With your head held high you entered the shop, keeping a cool face as Daveed looked over at you. His reaction was almost exactly like Rafa’s, eyes looking everywhere except your face.
“Hey Daveed.” You walked over slowly, confidence increasing with every step toward him.
“Y/N, that dress looks…amazing on you.” Daveed said, his gaze finally meeting yours.
You could tell he wanted to say something else by the way he paused mid-sentence but you’d take what you could get.
“Thank you, I like the tank, it brings attention to your sleeve.” You glanced down at his arms before walking down the hall to his work station.
You could hear Daveed following behind you as you sat down on the chair.
“Alright, let’s hear this amazing tattoo idea.” Daveed sat on his stool, moving closer to you.
“Well, one of my favorite songs by clipping. is Body & Blood. Something about it just makes me feel confident, makes me feel sexy.” You began, crossing your legs which made your dress slide up your thighs a little.
Daveed’s eyes followed the movement before flickering back to you.
“So, what better to do then get a tattoo based on Body and Blood?”
“You want a tattoo based off one of my songs?” Daveed raised a brow.
You nodded.
“Specifically, a diamond tattoo on my upper thigh.” You lifted your hips to pull your dress further up until it was bunched up at your hips, pointing at your right thigh.
Your heart was pounding in your ears, you decided being bold could get you what you wanted. You would either make a huge fool of yourself or you would get what you want. From the look on Daveed’s face, it seems you’d get the latter.
“Wow…Not gonna lie that’s flattering and hot at the same time.” Daveed licked his lips, reaching for some paper.
“How do you want it to look?” He asked, picking up a pencil.
“You’re the artist, what do you think it would look like?”
Daveed thought for a moment before he started drawing. A few minutes passed before he spoke again.
“This is what I had in mind.” Daveed said, holding up the piece of paper.
“Then let’s put it on me.” You leaned back, shifting a bit so you were more comfortable.
Daveed grabbed a disposable razor and ran it over your thigh a few times before wiping your skin clean with an antiseptic wipe. You watched as he made the stencil and transferred it to your skin. Once he finished setting up his equipment, he wheeled himself over and looked up at you.
“You ready?” He asked, tattoo machine roaring to life.
You nodded, not trusting your voice as Daveed’s hand settled onto your thigh. The first line was more of a slight annoyance instead of searing pain because of the adrenaline running through your body. You watched Daveed closely, noticing him trying his best to not stare at your lace panties you intentionally wore for today but you saw his eyes sometimes flicker to them then quickly back to the stencil. You closed your eyes, trying to stop the slight squirm of your hips.
“You’re tensing up, you alright?” Daveed asked, moving to get more ink.
You opened your eyes and looked at him, nodding your head.
“Yeah, sorry, still not used to the feeling I guess.” You laughed weakly.
Daveed seems to buy the excuse because he continued his linework. You took a deep breath in hopes of calming down your hormones but then Daveed’s hand shifted and your thighs involuntarily clenched.
“You sure you’re okay? You’re getting goosebumps.” Daveed looked at you again, an amused look in his eyes.
“Yeah. I-I’m fine. It must be cold or something.” You stammered, heat spreading through your cheek as wetness started settling between your thighs.
Daveed licked his lips, moving away to get more ink.
“Really? Want me to turn up the heat or something?” He offered, starting his work on your thigh again.
“No, it’s fine.”
Daveed nodded, even though his head was mostly down, you swore you could see a smirk on his face.
“You’re handling this a lot better than the first tattoo, not that you were acting horribly during your first tattoo.” Daveed said, wiping the excess ink off your thigh.
“Really?” You looked down at him again.
“Yeah, you were shaking a little last time but this time you’re still. You keep tensing your thighs though, are you ticklish or something?”
You couldn’t tell Daveed that the placement of his hands and his overall existence was making it hard to control your hormones so you went along with it.
“Yep! That’s it. I’m ticklish, sorry I’ll try to relax.”
“Is there any way I can help you relax?” Daveed asked.
Your cheeks flushed as you recognized the suggestive tone he used at the bar last night.
“Uh…” You struggled to come up with a response, his words from last night replaying in your head.
“I’ve been told I’m good with control. In many different settings.”
You swallowed thickly, squirming again under his gaze. His eyes drifted to your chest for a second, a smug look forming on his face before he looked you in the eyes again. Without another word, he went back to doing your tattoo as if nothing ever happened. A few minutes of silence passed and Daveed put down the machine.
“You’re all done, Y/N.” Daveed said as he cleaned up the tattoo and you peeked at it, a wide smile appearing on your face.
“It’s as sexy as I thought it would be.”
“I have to agree with that.” Daveed said, securing the bandage with tape.
“You think it’s sexy?” You sat up, lifting your leg so he could reach under it.
“Of course, it’s my design on a beautiful woman. Who’s in a really sexy dress that I’m assuming isn’t everyday wear.”
As Daveed leaned in closer to you, you leaned back until you were laying on the chair again. You felt cornered but, you liked it. You liked the way he was looking at you with intense eyes, that taunting smirk returning to his features.
“So, I’ll ask again. Is there anything I can do to help you relax?”
Your thighs clenched again, another wave of arousal hitting you from his words.
“I-I can think of a few things.”
“Then, tell me what it is. What do you want, Y/N?”
“You.” You blurted before you started second guessing your decision.
Daveed’s eyes traveled down your body again before he reached behind you and pulled a lever. Slowly the chair flattened until you were parallel to the floor.
“We’re limited due to your tattoo but I know something I can still do.” Daveed walked to the opposite end of the chair, near your legs.
“You sure you’re okay with this?” Daveed asked again, looking at you.
You spread your legs slightly in response and Daveed wasted no time grabbing your hips and pulling you down until you were at the edge of the chair. He started to sink to his knees to he could settle between your legs when he suddenly stood back up.
“Hold on.” Daveed walked out of the room and to the front of the shop. During his absence you carefully slid off your panties, tossing them onto your bag. Daveed made sure the shop was empty before locking the front door and making his way back to his station.
“Eager, are we?” Daveed raised a brow as he walked back into the room, noticing your lack of underwear.
“Should I put them back on?” You teased, watching Daveed sink down to his knees in front of you again.
“I think we both know you don’t want to do that, do you?” He asked, lips ghosting over your inner thigh.
You shook your head no, watching as his hands carefully moved to your hips. He kissed up your thigh slowly, getting closer to where you desperately wanted him but then skipping over to your other thigh instead. You bit your lip, trying to be patient as Daveed sucked a hickey onto your inner thigh. He bit lightly after he was done, once again moving towards your core. You held your breath as he got close but once again he skipped over it, nipping at your thigh and leaving another hickey. You whined softly, feeling him smile against your thigh.
“Tease.” You mumbled, looking down at him.
He sent a wink your way before using one of his thumbs to slowly rub your clit. You let your head fall back onto the chair, sighing in relief.
“So this is why you kept squirming. Couldn’t handle sitting in your own wetness?” Daveed looked up at you, watching your blissed out face.
You didn’t answer, your mind focused on his quickening movements instead of trying to form a response.
“Keep your hips still, or I’ll stop.” Daveed commanded, his grip on one of your thighs tightening.
“S-Sorry.” You stuttered, gasping as tongue replaced his thumb.
Daveed sucked lightly on your clit, flicking it with his tongue before moving down to your folds. You reached down and fisted his hair, pulling whenever he hummed and sent vibrations through your body.
“Fuck.” You mewled, thanking God that Rafael had left the parlor because you weren’t doing anything to quiet your moans.
Daveed’s tongue went back to toying with your clit as he slowly slid a finger into you. He curled it slightly, moving at a pace that was torturous.
“F-faster, please.” You sighed, moaning as he added another finger and pulled his face away from your thighs.
“Who’s in control?” He husked, moving his fingers even slower.
“Y-You are, Daveed.”
“That’s right. I control the pace. I control your pleasure. I control when you get to come. What do you do?” He asked, curling his fingers and moving them faster.
You struggled to answer him as he reached your g-spot.
“Y/N.” He said, his stern tone bringing you back into reality.
“I-I submit to your control.”
“Good girl. Submit.”
“Submit…” You repeated as Daveed’s head returned to its place between your legs.
“Submit…submit…” You repeated between mewls and moans.
Daveed let his thumb replace his tongue as he pulled back to watch your face. Your eyes glazed over, lips slightly parted, repeating his words with a blank expression on your face. He kept watching as his fingers increased in speed, your legs quaking as your orgasm started to build.
“F-Fuck, Daveed I-, fuck!” You cried out, digging your nails into the chair under you as he increased the speed of his fingers again.
He was loving watching you fall apart under him; loved watching as everything you tried to say turned into an expletive, watching you claw at the chair under you, watching as you lost all self-control and your hips started bucking on their own.
“C-Close.” was all you could utter before Daveed’s head was buried between your legs again, lapping at your folds.
“Come.” Daveed growled, the vibrations pushing you over the edge.
You gripped his hair tightly, thighs tensing around his head as you came. Daveed sucked on your clit softly, aiding you through your orgasm. Slowly your thighs relaxed and your legs felt like jello as you let them collapse. Daveed moved back, standing up and licking his lips. Daveed grabbed some paper towels and cleaned you up before wiping his face clean. By the time you caught your breath, he was sitting on his stool holding out your panties and a bottle of water.
“Thanks.” You said, taking your panties and carefully putting them on, “Is the tattoo okay?”
Daveed glanced at your thigh before nodding.
“You’re good, I made sure not to fuck it up.”
You took the bottle of water, taking a small sip before putting it down. You tried to stand up but your legs weren’t quite ready yet.
“Woah! I gotcha.” Daveed caught you, helping you stand up straight.
“Thanks.” You whispered, tugging your dress down over your ass again.
“You’re welcome.” Daveed replied, his arms still around you.
There was silence for a moment before you looked at him, surprised to find that he was already looking at you, his eyes moving to your lips then back to your eyes. You leaned in first, wrapping your arms around his neck to pull him closer. Daveed followed your lead, leaning in until your lips met in a short kiss. He pulled away slightly, searching your face for any discomfort before going in for a longer one. Your fingers found their way into his hair again, your touch gentle this time around. Daveed slid his hands from your waist to your ass, squeezing lightly which made you giggle into the kiss. You pulled back, looking at him with a wide smile.
“I think we did that backward. Typically you kiss before you go down on someone.” You joked, moving your hand out of Daveed’s hair.
“Well, I guess we aren’t typical.” Daveed chuckled, letting you go.
You picked up your bag, grabbing one of the aftercare packets on his station. He walked with you to the front door, unlocking it for you. You kissed his cheek before exiting onto the street.
“Oh, Y/N.” Daveed said, leaning on the doorway.
You turned around to face him.
“Yeah?”
“Call me when that tattoo heals.” He winked, giving you a sly smile.
You smirked, rolling your eyes playfully as you walked off. Of course when the time came around, you would definitely call him.
