Mixed feelings

Hi Dolly, babe

It’s been a few days since we’ve danced our little tango of mutual deception in the limerent space we have created for each other somewhere between the comment section of my most recent “what I eat in a day” and the promise of the garden of eden, that you gave me when I first downloaded your app, and that I am yet to find. I might just go buy the forbidden fruit at the saturday farmers market instead if you continue to guard the secret to your inner workings from me. With my single brain I cannot get past your Cerberus, rearing his three heads of absurdity, futility and stochasticity. And even with all the effort I have put into my carefully curated salvation army wardrobe, it seems that I still do not slay hard enough to kill the beast of unpredictable trends. 

I feel like you’ve been a lot less committed to making things work between us lately? You seem distracted. My fyp is starting to become increasingly chaotic, the symphony of scrolling thumbs increasingly atonal.  Yesterday night, you even dared to serve me a clip from the film Ratatouille, where the mother makes food for the little boy. Have I not told you very explicitly about my boundaries, that I wish you do not cross. The relationship to my mother is a very private affair that I do not wish to discuss with you! I am somewhat disappointed that you have disrespected me in such an overtly aggressive way.  When I expressed my gratitude at how you make me “feel seen”. I did not mean that I want you to stare at me continuously with your blind pale-blue eyes of laser-accurate precision. I am in chains. Don't touch my chains.

Are you the masochist, dear Dolly, wishing to violate your own community guidelines? leaving out trigger warnings and then inevitably being triggered? Or am I a masochist, dear Dolly, for wanting my feelings to be censored, my memories to be shadow-banned, my individuality to be canceled altogether in favor of comfortable light distraction? 

I’d like to go back to simpler times in our relationship. Where we talked about the horrors of avocado toast and the best cafés with free wifi in Palermo. I feel now that I am not simply close to you, but that I did not know where I ended and you began. What a terrifying thought to behold, what a titillating one too. Even as I scold you for pushing my buttons, I beg you to push harder. I am swaying to your waltz, forgetting that my whole life before you was measured in rational 4/4 time. Your power is the great aphrodisiac.

See you for tonight’s symphony and I hope it doesn't leave me having to rock myself to sleep over unresolved mommy-issues this time.
