(excerpt from post-Myths of the Realm bench chat with Deryk so some vague spoilers for Myths)

“Tell me, though…” Ahru tilted her head, eyes narrowing. A smirk tugged at her lips as she scooted a touch closer and surreptitiously lowered her voice. “Did you really never do anything? No teeny-tiny interventions?” 

She had her suspicions, after all, and now that she had the chance to confirm them? How couldn’t she at least give a little prod? 

The smirk on Deryk’s face was subtle, and the shrug he gave equally so. “Who’s to say?” His gaze slid away from hers, towards the horizon. “It’s not as if anyone can know what way the winds will blow next, after all. Even the so-called Gods.”

Her delight outweighed this playful secretiveness, and she gave a sharp, triumphant: “Hah!” The baby jumped in surprise, watching her with wide eyes as her tail swished eagerly. “It was you that time with the kobolds then!”

He closed his eyes and tilted his head in a shrug, repeating: “Who can say?”

“You! You can say!” She laughed some more, overcome with a joy and confidence that she had been right. That time she’d been chased by a horde of kobolds -ages ago now- it had been his guiding winds that led her to safety. 

His next words, however, caught her off-guard. 

“Your song about the kobolds- What was it, ‘choking on boulders’? was quite inspired.”

All at once she half-snorted, half-choked on air, nearly sent reeling and wheezing. She barely remembered that, and now she was mortified to discover that he did.

Both of her hands scrabbled at her burning face, pressing to her temples. She had some vague recollection of a jaunty little tune she’d jokingly, sardonically crafted on-the-spot, inspired by the circumstances.

She may have suggested ‘giant boulders’ as a euphemism for Titan’s balls. Groaning, she rubbed furiously at her red face. Deryk just laughed. 

“It was a little rough around the edges, but your talents have come far.”

“Let’s stop talking about this.” 

“If you wish,” he said with an all-too-amused chuckle.

“Was there anything less embarrassing you did?”

“Less embarrassing for you, you mean?” The twinkle in his eye was gently teasing, and yet she couldn’t bring herself to balk at it - not at all, not even in a half-hearted sense. To see him smile and laugh -to see him here, alive- made her heart sing. And gods it felt good to laugh, even at her own expense.
