Everything about The Owl House finale was spectacular and I loved it so much, but one smaller thing I enjoyed was that they continued in the She-Ra tradition of affirming all their gay couples and having them kiss in the finale while having their male-female relationship (though obvs Huntlow is queer too) be left technically ambiguous

The Owl House makes a big deal of subverting The Chosen One tropes, but you know who’s actually the chosen one? Eda Clawthorne. The Evil Emperor is secretly her great-great-great x uncle. Her sister coincidentally cursed her with a connection to a beast from before their landmass formed, of unknown origins and immense power. That same sister then got promoted to the Emperor’s right hand. She’s one of the most talented witches of her age. She finds the portal everyone is looking for in her backyard. She accidentally adopts a baby Titan and the first human to visit the Isles in hundreds of years.
What does she do with all these significant plot points and world ending power? She digs through inter-dimensional trash, pulls small scams, and flips off cops. No intentions of broader rebellion. No lofty goals. She’s out here to survive, keep her kids safe, and maybe make some snails. All the big, dramatic rebel action is pushed by other characters. Instead of a young idealistic hero sopping with power, the chosen one is a chronically ill forty year old mentor who just so happens to have had every powerful object/ancient burden/lost child in the Isles dropped into her arms.

Shoutout to Eda who steals and pickpockets and talks about stealing all the time but won’t just steal her elixirs if she doesn’t have the money because poor Morton has to make a living somehow.

We were all fools for claiming Eda would be the chronic adoptive mom. This lady has legally adopted exactly 1 child and found family bonded with one other. That is it. Story wise she capped it at two.
Camila, on the other hand, started with one child, adopted two in everything except actual legality, and unofficially semi-adopted three others. She took one look at King and already loves him, I have no doubt she will try to unofficially adopt him as well. Camila is the chronic child adopter and the only way she could rise to a physically unbeatable level is if she nabbed the Collector. Which I fully believe she can and would do

“The emperor wanted to make sure you weren’t getting into any trouble. And to clear out your office. I left a box of your knickknacks inside.”
“Wish you took more from my tutelage, dear. History’s supposed to be exciting after all!”
“Flora Desplora, bad girl historian, celebrity, and my former mentor in the emperor’s coven.”
“All I ever got to do was desk work while she goofed off riding wild snake horses and- and- and eating mummy jerky!
Well I can be just as exciting as Flora. I’ll come up with an exhibit that’ll knock the titan’s socks off!”
“It’s almost as if the emperor wanted Flora to tick me off.”
“I . . . did cobble together a device to find [time pools] with Eda. It should be in the box Flora returned to me.”
Gosh it was so obvious how did I not see it before

everyone seems to be firmly on the dadrius train but imo I just don’t think Darius is exactly… qualified… to adopt. I mean, we didn’t all collectively forget that he spent Hunter’s Entire Life projecting on Hunter, right?
Darius seemed to resent Hunter for… not disobeying Belos? Presumably because he views it as an insult to his Mentor’s memory. That’s all in good fun, but Hunter is a child, and one who will face physical retribution for just saying the wrong thing in front of Belos. And I don’t know if Darius has even realized this at our current moment in canon.
It’s tragic, but the show (and Hunter’s audio recording from the stream) tells us that Hunter was, at best, ignored by Darius. At worst? publicly humiliated with his self-taught sewing insulted and his personal belongings stolen. Darius, like Lilith, projected onto Hunter. (And imo, Darius, like Lilith, should probably work that out in therapy.)
The only coven head that seemed to ever be nice to Hunter was Raine, and they had the shortest run as coven head before they were found out as a traitor. They had little time to form any kind of connection with Hunter, and it was enough that them ignoring him or acting coldly was considering ‘weird’ to him.
point being: yeah, Darius has gotten better and, more or less, started making up for things. but just about a week ago he was still projecting onto a child, so maybe don’t give him full custody just yet. he’d make a great replacement uncle, but I’m not sure he’s ready for parenthood— even if it was with a normal, not-super-traumatized child.
also: how confusing must it have been for Hunter when Darius did that 180 on him? First Darius steals his cloak and insults his sewing and saying he doesn’t deserve to wear the patch, then he’s giving him a scroll, saying he should have friends, keeping flapjack a secret and encouraging him to rebel? and fixing his sewing?? and saying his predecessors would be proud? because he rebelled?? that must’ve been the most confusing thing ever for him.

[ID: four page comic of the owl house. Page 1: Eda walks past Luz, Gus and Willow, who're sat on the floor of the owl house around a box labeled "Eda's Music". Eda notices them and peeks around the corner asking "uh, hey kid- whatcha doin?". Luz says "oh hey Eda!".
Page 2: Luz says "we were just going through all your old human music!" While holding a CD case. She continues "I've been getting nostalgic listening to some old latin pop CDs, like what my mom used to play around the house! (You have a surprising amount of merengue music btw)". Gus sheds a single tear and says "I've sampled human music before but, wow, just, wow! The technique...the inspiration...Carly Rae Jepsen is a genius". Willow looks to the side and says "and I've been listening to your old breakup mixtapes!".
Page 3: Eda looks at her blankly before saying "my what?". Willow says- "your breakup music! There's a whole box of it. I'm pretty over it now but back in the day...when Amity stopped hanging out with me...it hit me hard. I kinda had a phase of only listening to angsty breakup songs for like...a month. Maybe more. It's kinda sad in retrospect".
In the background we can see a flashback of young willow sobbing in bed while summoning vines to cover photos of her and Amity on her wall. Willow continues "things are a lot better now don't get me wrong...but I still listen to that playlist every once in a while when I need a release". Eda contemplates, then grimaces, remembering breakup with Raine (who's pictured saying "it's over, eda").
Page 4: Eda looks at Willow. She eventually says "wanna trade?" And Willow looks up. Final panel shows Luz standing in the doorway concerned as she looks at Willow and Eda. willow is kneeling in front of a casette player and headphones with a shadowy expression and Eda is in the family guy death post with a phone and headphone wire next to her. Both have annotations- Willow's says "got One of Us by ABBA" and Eda's is "got Nightshift by Lucy Dacus". Luz says "you guys good?". End ID]

Phillip was a lonely kid who latched onto caleb as his only companion to guide him in a world he otherwise has trouble navigating. Caleb felt responsible for phillips actions and lived a tense life keeping his brother in line, fearing persecution for himself and his brother if one of them slipped up.
The collector was a lonely kid who latched onto king as their only companion to play with them in a world they would otherwise be bored in. King felt responsible for the collectors actions and lived a tense life keeping his friend in line, fearing that he and his family would be turned into toys if he slipped up.
When caleb befriended evelyn, she shared her world and culture with him, which he was fascinated by. With evelyn, caleb could escape the responsibilities of taking care of his brother and navigating puritan gravesfield. This freedom convinced him to leave behind phillip and choose to be with evelyn instead.
When king befriended luz, she shared her world and culture with him. With luz, king never had to be responsible for keeping the collector in check and trying to protect the people of the boiling isles. He misses this freedom and if he had the choice, king would leave behind the collector and choose to be with luz instead.
When phillip found out caleb chose evelyn over him, he tried to murder evelyn and, in the ensuing fight, killed caleb instead.
When the collector finds out king would choose luz over them...

Woke: Forcing yourself to learn how to do voice acting to speak and sing in character, so YOU could be your OC’s own voice claim 💅✨
