Okay but y'know who would've been the perfect character to use as a secondary foil to Dabi in addition to Shouto being the first instead of Bird Bitch?Momo.Their upbringings are significantly different but not entierly-Momo was abused by her parents with adultification and verbally abused by them in a way that's so normalized that she has no clue of either of those things even happened to her,Dabi was abused by Endeavor in the classic way with constant verbal degragation and physical assaults. And they both had the same motivation and justification behind them:They wanted them to be the perfect child.Momo's abusers in the sense of her becoming the ideal proper 'mature' woman,Dabi's abuser in the sense of the most powerful hero. They parallel eachother in a contrasting way and so do their trauma responses by extension and their dynamic has so much untapped potential that i genuinely think it's one of Horikoshi's dropping the ball moment's that he never had them share a bond or at least pointed out their different similarities
It's shown that despite his lack of care for strangers generally,Dabi looks out for his own.He treats Toga like his little sister because she had a rough childhood due to her quirk too and his best friendship with Jin is so tender and strong that it borderlines on romantic and we all saw what he did and said to Hawks for his ableism motivated murder of him and it's not a coincidence that he's even more brotherly to Toga and unhinged after that event specifically. In addition to their shared history of parental abuse,Momo herself also has a bunch of disorders which unlike with Jin were not intentional-Let's be honest,if Horikoshi had made her autistic, adhd, anxiety and ocd intentionally,i don't even wanna think about how horrifically she would've been treated by both other characters and the narrative-but are too intertwined with her story to remove them and still have her be in-character so it's fun and interesting to think of Momo and Dabi having to interact with eachother due to her being a heroine in training and him a villain who's team's main enemies are friends and mentors
Both of them have also not fully escaped the treatment they got growing up-Momo was given a costume that was blatantly meant to sexualize her and gets put in charge of leading her classmates into war as literal child soldiers,Dabi still dosen't get believed as a victim of his father because he's 'too mean' to count as one.I would love to see stories of them slowly accidentally befriending eachother right after the Bakugou rescue arc and Dabi helping Momo see hero society isn't fair or kind to her either and Momo realizing just how often it is that situations like Dabi's happen-Hell,she helped rescue someone who's the same as Endeavor, only on a smaller scale.I don't think she'd instantly go villain nor that Dabi would force her to but the prelude to the war arc has her getting kicked out by her parents for standing up to them and because they found out she's been doing vigilanteism so she joins him because she knows he's right and because he's treated her better than almost every other adult in her life and in turn, she's made him realize that not every hero is thrown into it willingly and are just hurt kids like he used to be and that they're the real ones.'Creati' becomes 'Destruct' but before this all unfolds,we get Shouto and Momo being closer than ever as the series progresses due to the differences in Momo's plot and Dabi's involvement in it pulling Shouto into their orbits and Todomomo goes from a subtle but potent romance to a constant and in your face 'They're soulmates by choice' type of beat in the best and healthiest way possible
Momo gets to be written as a multidimensional teen girl character with no demonization for being an anti-heroine and not be erased as the second real first friend Shouto made in favor of a lifelong bully who told his number one victim to kill himself and Dabi gets to redeem himself by being the good older brother he never got to be as Touya and entering rehibilitation after the war ends because he refuses to die after getting to save Jin from Hawks so they can live out the rest of their lives together.Breaking the cycle of abuse is a much better story than shonen fuckery bullshit disguised as superhero homages when in reality it's disrespecting the history behind and core of comics

beat breath of the wild and have no real interest in rot13’ing spoilers for a seven year old game. also early thoughts on the first couple hours in tears of the kingdom. so if you don’t want to see that don’t read the playing section

listening
there is a particular piece of exploring ambient music that plays in a particular cave in genshin impact's fontaine and i adored it. i kept going back to that cave to trigger the music. it reminds me very much of Erich Wolfgang Korngold, who won several Oscars for early Technicolor swashbucklers-- The Sea Hawk, The Adventures of Robin Hood, et al. this particular piece leans into it the most and really grabbed me bc that's what Fontaine is all about: the romanticism, the folk heroism, the seafaring swashbuckling. i wish they leaned into it a bit more across fontaine, but i haven't played since i got fired and had to give my laptop back so perhaps the last patch has more similar music?
the use of bells in this is super great and pulled my attention first, but the way it ends-- a sort of sliding violin halt, some woodwinds fluttering up, a flute twining in. i hope their composing team wins some fuckin awards this year bc all the genshin music is good but the fontaine music is really a cut above.
youtube
either you've seen enough lavish technicolor adventure movies to know what the fuck i'm on about or you haven't, i hope this makes sense for why i was so excited about hearing this particular style in such an unexpected medium. here actually listen to this

The Water Outlaws by S.L. Huang, i think a post on here influenced me bc it promised gay genderfuckery but i put it on hold SO long ago i could not tell you when that was or what the post was. it’s not NOT gay and genderfucky. but that’s really not the point of the book. this also wasn’t the easy read i was expecting it to be. let's yoink both the photo and the pitch from macmillan:
Lin Chong is an expert arms instructor, training the Emperor's soldiers in sword and truncheon, battle axe and spear, lance and crossbow. Unlike bolder friends who flirt with challenging the unequal hierarchies and values of Imperial society, she believes in keeping her head down and doing her job. Until a powerful man with a vendetta rips that carefully-built life away. Disgraced, tattooed as a criminal, and on the run from an Imperial Marshall who will stop at nothing to see her dead, Lin Chong is recruited by the Bandits of Liangshan. Mountain outlaws on the margins of society, the Liangshan Bandits proclaim a belief in justice—for women, for the downtrodden, for progressive thinkers a corrupt Empire would imprison or destroy. They’re also murderers, thieves, smugglers, and cutthroats. Inspired by a classic of martial arts literature, S. L. Huang's The Water Outlaws are bandits of devastating ruthlessness, unseemly femininity, dangerous philosophies, and ungovernable gender who are ready to make history—or tear it apart.
this book kept me company through a particularly bad bout of insomnia and i did enjoy my time with it, i'm glad it exists in the world and i'm glad to have read it essentially in one sitting. if i owned a hard copy, i don't think i would hang on to it. it was Fine, it's simply not for me. a bit too chewy and for bigger fans of Chinese history and/or wuxia i think.
there is an extremely large cast of characters (i often found myself referring back to the dramatis personae) and quite grim in parts. sexual assault, cannibalism as revenge, a very realistic war. a lot of really terrible, really grievous things happen to bodies. the fight scenes are clear and competent and will in fact unfold in your head like a martial arts movie.
it does take quite a while to get going and unfolds more like a TV show than a political thriller movie. this is a fat fucking book. this is a twenty hour audiobook. it strongly benefits from shifting POVs over its length, Huang is particularly good at differentiating tone and what each character pays attention to for maximum effect. she's also really good at one of my favorite things, displays of political deftness where you can’t see how someone would have made any other choice. some really top tier leftist infighting
while it is gay and it is genderbending, i would not say discussions of sex and sexuality are at the forefront. this is a group that has been pushed to the margins for their gender and sexuality, but this is a book concerned with how they survive and there isn’t a lot of space for discussions that aren’t about survival. there’s no fucking on page, but this book did not advertise itself as a romance or erotica so i don’t fully understand other readers' criticisms here.
this is a very competently written book. i am not going to remember it in a month's time. i don't normally emphasize it to this degree bc i feel a little bad about going "meh" at this tale of women fighting for societal and personal freedom, something i too have done but with less gore, but there is a wide gray sea of books that are simply fine and i don't particularly love or particularly hate bc they weren't quite what i needed or what i expected at the time. so it goes.

there is a revelation in Yellowstone season 3 episode 7 (picture unrelated i just like having a picture for each section) that made us (me, my bestie, my bestie’s husband) all SCREAM and have to pause it and leave the room for a moment to compose ourselves. the amount of Things per episode that happen in that show. they really fuckin use all of their forty-four minutes.
i watch so little modern prestige tv i i keep thinking about why this has its hooks in my brain so, and i think this is the same concept as homestuck and soap operas and war and peace: once you get sucked into a huge sprawling semi-nonsensical drama you are In It BayBee

i didn't know lizalfos could do that. i don't like that. stop it.

somehow i had never gotten up to this platform near dueling peaks stables and was rewarded with...some arrows. but the sun rising turned the marsh all gold, and all the atmosphere shading was firing on all cylinders, and it looked real pretty. the weather in breath of the wild is fun.
i had been under the impression that the divine beasts had been slowly siphoning away ganon’s energy or something and had not realized that they were lining up shots and were the equivalent of little laser sniper dots. hearing that joyous musical cue and watching ganon get got by that tremendous beam of light was maybe the funniest moment in the game???
anyway did finally beat breath of the wild!!! did tear up at the end! im annoyed that the postgame just vworps you back immediately pre-castle but i get it from a game architecture perspective.
Tumblr media
at the very last bit of the fight i fell off my horse who got stuck against the beast’s leg taking damage and i was SO scared it was going to kill my horse but we were ok!!! i think i overprepared for that fight. the thunderblight light ganon fight was way harder imo.
popping that map back open postgame and seeing a cheery little 43% completion in the corner was. good god. i had 105 shrines and 66/77 side quests, all but four of the shrine quests, and like 250 koroks. i guess the koroks count for way more than i thought??? or perhaps i didn’t actually discover as many named places as i thought??? i would probably have more coherent thoughts about the end of this game if i were not Extremely Depressed and wasn't able to immediately jump to tears of the kingdom. as it is, i feel sort of "huh. ok. that's checked off. next task: ganon But More"
Tumblr media
on to tears of the kingdom: i love zelda with her little bi bob. i do NOT love link with longer hair. give him his ponytail back
Tumblr media
i loooooove these little grotesques on the temple of time-- i was spoiled for the end of tears of the kingdom bc i watched my bestie’s husband play through the last three hours. i have just enough context to make everything more confusing. also, i was fully expecting the time skip to be like several thousands of years but it’s like a month at most???
Tumblr media Tumblr media
it is So Funny to me that the lord of the mountain in the last game is an extremely rare occurrence you have to go visit at a specific place, and in this game he just wants his appy slices :) this is an excuse to talk about other rideable animals: i started a new switch profile to replay botw lo these many weeks ago, forgot to choose that one when starting totk, and don’t have any of the horses i spent the last month with :( the horses from my first playthrough several years ago are, quite frankly, not very good stats wise.
i went right to hebra to start the rito quest (where is the divine beast??? what has happened to the divine beasts???) but keep getting my shit kicked in one blow so i think i will fuck around the castle and do some more shrines. my overall impression is that this game is way more fiddly. there’s more Stuff to combine and keep track of. i wish i could premake fire and ice and bomb arrows instead of having to select them every time. that’s a lot of button presses in the middle of a fight. also my controller is succumbing to some fatal connectivity issues so this portion of the tuesdaypost may be slower for a bit. i will scrape up some money for a new controller bc this is a real loadbearing activity but it’s going to take a minute to ship to me i assume.

Hi Robin Buckley enjoyers, if you care about Robin Buckley's music taste this very niche post is for you! Your local former band kid and music extraordinaire (me) is here. This is long.
All information on Robin's music taste was given by Maya Hawke. And before you argue that "Actors don't affect what is canon," Okay well Maya does. The costume department let her take home Robin's converse in season 3 (which she wears in every episode) and write whatever she wanted on them. Because of Maya Hawke, Robin's sneakers canonically have "I won't go down in history but I'll go down on your sister," and "TIDDIEZ" written on them. Checkmate.
So for our musical headcanon purposes we are going to take everything Maya says as canon.
I know that in season four Robin has the line, "Madonna, Blondie, Bowie, Beatles, music, we need music!" while she's sorting through Eddie's tapes as Nancy is getting vecna'd. But I believe she's just naming very popular artists hoping it will be a song Nancy would like. So I haven't taken this line into consideration for our purposes. (Though we do know from this interaction that Robin definitely is not a metalhead.)
According to Maya Hawke, this would be Robin's music taste:
Tumblr media
I whole-heartedly agree with her take on this, all four artists. This is just correct. And as I said, canon.
But what would Robin's favorite artist be, and what's her favorite song?
So glad you asked because I'm about to tell you!
Maya Hawke said in an interview that Robin would have the same music taste she does, because they are very similar. (More on this later)
If Robin's music taste is Maya's music taste, then it stands to reason that her favorite music would be most similar to Maya Hawke's own music.
In my opinion (which is correct because I know more about this than you so shut up) out of these four artists, based on overall lyricism, lyrical themes, musical themes, and vibes, the artist most similar to Maya Hawke is unarguably: Patti Smith.
But what is Robin's favorite song?
People Have the Power by Patti Smith! (Released in 1988, but go with it!)
Two reasons for this: it is one of the most similar to Maya's music lyrically and vibe-wise, and the lyrics would undoubtedly resonate with Robin.
Tumblr media
If you're at all familiar with Maya's music you can see the similarities in lyrical themes: use of multiple metaphors, use of imagery, overarching social commentary.
I won't go too much into why the lyrics would resonate with Robin but I will say that the Robin who spit in the face of a Russian general and mocked him would resonate with a song about people having the power rather than the government having the power. Also the fact that she and the rest of the main characters keep having to save the world rather than the U.S. government who got them into this Upside Down mess in the first place. And lastly, I think this song is a powerful song for anyone who feels powerless, like for example a lesbian in small town Indiana in the 80s. Or just a teenage girl in general.
Okay NOW let's talk modern day music because it's fun.
If you write modern Day AUs that include Robin you're legally required to read this:
In the same interview that Maya said Robin would have the taste she does, she specifically mentioned Phoebe Bridgers.
When asked about Robin's music taste on the red carpet at the Stranger Things premier, Maya Hawke again said that Robin would like the same music she likes and mentioned MUNA, Phoebe Bridgers, Charli XCX, Samia, and Christian Lee Hutson.
Another good take btw.
So what would be Robin's favorite modern day song?
If we're not allowing Maya Hawke to exist in our AU because that's too meta, I'd stick with Phoebe Bridgers as her favorite artist because she's mentioned her multiple times when asked this question and in the first interview Phoebe is the only artist that she mentioned.
So assuming Phoebe is her favorite artist and her taste in music is as close to Maya Hawke as we can get, then I can confidently say that modern day Robin's favorite song is:
Graceland Too by Phoebe Bridgers
(Source: I have listened to every Phoebe Bridgers and Maya Hawke song more times than any reasonable person should and this is the most similar. I wont waste your time breaking down why.)
Robin would also resonate with the lyrics:
Tumblr media
To her it would represent the thought of getting out of Hawkins one day (or already having gotten out of Hawkins), as well as the isolation that comes with being a lesbian in the 80s or even just being unpopular in high school. Also her neurodivergency (I hc her with ADHD because I have that and she is just like me fr but autistic Robin truthers you are so valid and honestly there's probably more canonical evidence for that). And lastly the idea that she would "do anything" for someone refers to both how selfless of a person we know she is but also the fact that she falls hard for people, we see that with Vickie.
Bonus! What would be modern day Robin's favorite album?
You might think Punisher, because that's the album Graceland Too is on.
You'd be wrong.
The correct answer is:
Folklore by Taylor Swift!
Tumblr media
Maya has said her most recent album Moss was heavily inspired by Folklore, and while it is distinctly different it definitely comes through in the album. And I'm not going to do lyrical analyses on why every song is relatable to Robin, but as a Taylor Swift Expert, just trust me on this one.
Tumblr media
I'm considering making 2 playlists one for 80s Robin Buckley and one for modern Robin Buckley but we'll see.
If you read this entire thing you are entitled to one free kiss on the mouth idk why anyone would read this incredibly niche ramble but tysm.

ah then, i must’ve accidentally recalled some misinformation from that infamous lesbophobe on twitter who constantly “headcanons” vi as bi to spite people 😭😭😭 although i do have to say, there’s an unfortunate history of official art/promos using lesbian flags and not knowing about the sapphic flag or what the difference is 🙄 i still believe they’re actual lesbians and take their word for it so don’t worry but these days it’s (generally speaking) hard to tell what’s truly meant to be conveyed; hell i’ve even seen sapphics on twitter do the same thing and it’s really frustrating 💔
you indirectly make a good point though, despite talking about something else! there’s a similarity in how confirmed bisexual characters may or may not actually be pan/poly/omni instead despite being said to be bi. or maybe they’re just bi and what was said was meant. i don’t have any specific examples but the idea probably exists, or will. erasure is common in all forms of queer, unfortunately.
btw also — believe me, i HAVE seen a radfem blog call bow a GNC female before 🫣 it… happens. so. yeah. it’s bad.
+ thanks for the sources!!
The ONLY thing I could get from that is that it rhymes. And as a bi woman who loves Vi, I’m a visexual lolololol
Yeahhhh ppl who “headcannon” Vi and Caitlyn and Catra and Adora as bi or pan stink. I don’t see it as often as ppl “headcannoning” Ivy and Harley and Korra and Asami (and somehow even Bowlover Boykisser Glimmer- I have no idea how ppl see her as a lesbian) as lesbians but like. Headcannoning any characters other than cisallohet characters as any other identity is so invalidating and callous istg.
FR. Ppl LOVE to throw the lesbian flag up in group sapphic edits that include Luz and Bubbline and Harlivy and Korrasami. It sucks. And like, the sapphic flag is so pretty! Why not use it <\3
Haha that’s not the point I was going for but thank you anyways chase! Within the context of a piece of media or said by a writer, if a character is bisexual, they’re bisexual. Not pan, not omni, not poly. Bc if they’re using specific terminology, they did that for a reason. Even if bi is an umbrella term, it’s also a specific identity as it’s own (you already know that tho lmao, I’m just restating it.)
Now, if a character shows interest in more than one gender, they’re most likely bisexual, but there’s a chance they could be pan, omni, poly, etc. like Charlie Morningstar from Hazbin Hotel. I’m like sure she’s bi, and the writers have never said anything otherwise or said that she’s pan or whatnot. So it’s clear to say that Charlie is canonically bisexual. Now, if within the show, or if the writer were to state she’s pan or omni or poly, then her already canon bisexual just got a lot more specific, and we’d say she’s canon this or that instead.
That’s SILLY (derogatory), I literally don’t see how someone can see Bow get glitter eyes looking at Sea Hawk and go “yeah that’s a lesbian.” 💀
Here, have a meme while you’re here :)
Tumblr media
I had posted this months ago and got 1k likes and then my clumsy fingers accidentally deleted it 😅
Have a nice day Chase, thx for the ask 💝🫡

🌟OC Tag Game🌟
Thank you to the lovely @shivunin for tagging me and... Oh damn. It's hard I can't decide shit!
I'm keeping this on Dragon Age OCs, with the originals... I'm not ready to dig up old OCs from high schools, no sirree.
Favourite OC: Aisling is the one I'm having the most fun with, honestly. She's a ray of sunshine and she's just good and fun to write and I like dressing her up in 104958040 different AUs. I have particular affection for Raina because she's just such a fire dumpster and I want to hug her.
Newest OC: Mh, I think the latest one that was developed was Garrett. I wanted to play a Fenris romance and just went for most basic Hawke... I got affectionate and added him too in my canon.
Oldest OC: Alyra. I made her when I first purchased Origins and tried to play it... In 2015. But I was playing on an old pc that was a champion of base jumping from my desk (thanks cats). I couldn't go past the Korcari Wilds because whenever I played the game the pc just... Switched off on its own after 15 minutes. Playing was stressful and I left it on the side. Alyra was there to wait for me when I changed to a decent gaming pc and downloaded Origins again. She was there huffing and scolding me because I was so late.
Meanest OC: Radha, hands down. Radha speaks very little and observes, she's good at reading people and has an iron memory. She is chill and in spite of a resting bitch face, won't quarrel with you most often. But when she does? Oh man she just has sharp words to hit you right when it hurts, and without many embellishments. She will serve you the worst parts of your personality right in your face, without even flinching.
Softest OC: One would think it's Aisling, but I think that actually it's Raina. Raina just craves some comprehension and is surprisingly tender when she likes you and sense you're upset. She's incredibly caring if she likes you for real and you show her that you care for her and don't mind if she eats food from the ground.
Most Aloof/Standoffish OC: Alyra. She cares for people and will work extra hours to make sure everyone has enough to eat and will survive the night without getting eaten by a bear... She won't show anything. She is very open when she judges you and doesn't look like an easy person to approach, at all. Hates losing time, and loathes small talk.
Dumbest (affectionate) OC: Raina as in "not so knowledgeable", LOL. She's not stupid meaning she's dumb, but she is horrible at coping with her own feelings... She is too restless to sit there and read, unless she's very interested. Surprisingly, she has a knack for languages. Will take an accent in no time, and when Merrill will try to teach her Elven, she'll pick it up easily.
Smartest OC: I think it's a tie between Aisling and Radha. Aisling is for anything practical and scientific. She'll click with Dorian because they reason in a very, very similar way that can combine easily. She has idea for practical stuff, has a terrific memory and a proactive mind: she can and will try and bend spells and get them better. Radha is all for historical knowledge and is probably the most emotionally intelligent of the bunch. She craves in knowledge and is very curious, will stay up at night reading of everything and everyone. Loves non-fiction. She's more for humanities and theory.
OC I'd Probably Be Friends With: Ouch. I think that the one I'd be the most friend with is Radha. She loves reading and doesn't feel the pressure to speak, I like to talk but also to stay silent and do things together without much speaking. Also, we're both history nerds, LOL. Or Aisling out of let's befriend animals together and pet that one thing that maybe doesn't want to be petted (... I petted a swan, once. It was soft. I still don't know why the bird didn't attack me), and honestly will love the hugs. And Garrett, he may be a gym bro, but he's very chill and curious as per everything magic. Raina would be lovely but Raina's an extrovert. He's funny and an introvert, great for netflix and chill and commenting shit over tv shows.
Tagging: @ndostairlyrium @idolsgf @scribbledquillz and YOU who are reading (seriously it's been a long day and my brain is mushy send word if you'd like a tag!)

Wait, wait, now I really want to know the story about you not getting an aircraft carrier museum in your backyard (feel free to table this ask for tomorrow...)
I've done this rant before, but I'll do it again because you should never miss a chance to dunk on the Jacksonville Jaguars, or the NFL. Get some popcorn, this is gonna be a long one.
So here's the basic gist. Back in the day there was a supercarrier named the USS Saratoga. Sara served with distinction throughout the Cold War, taking part in both Vietnam and Desert Storm. But like all ships she was eventually decommissioned and struck from the Naval Vessel Register in 1994. It is here that our tale of woe begins.
One of Saratoga's main ports during her service was Naval Station Mayport; a naval base nearby Jacksonville. In the mid 90s, Jacksonville was interested in upgrading the downtown area (they still are; it sucks and there's nothing out there). To that end, it was decided USS Saratoga would make a fine museum ship; she had history in the area, was part of the first "supercarrier class", It would be perfect! The startup costs began at 4.5 million, but for some reason the city was reluctant to cough up the funds.
That's because the NFL got their greedy paws on it first. They were also interested in Jacksonville's money downtown upgrade. They just needed a measly 130 million to raze the old stadium and build a brand spanking new one. So they leaned over to the city council and whispered in their soft seductive voice-
"Jacksonville: Home of the Jacksonville Jaguars NFL Team"
And so a significant portion of that 130 million was given away by the city. Saratoga didn't even get half of the needed funds, and the ship was eventually removed from donation hold. There was an attempt by a town in Rhode Island to get her, but nothing came of it and she was scrapped in 2014. So she's dead and gone, the Jaguars for the longest time were the laughing stock of the NFL (might still be, I don't follow them out of spite), the stadium had to be revamped in the 2010s with a swimming pool to actually attract people to Jaguar games, and it was only last year that Jacksonville finally got a destroyer for a museum ship in the USS Orleck. After she was nearly destroyed by neglect and a hurricane at its previous moorings in Texas, and another museum candidate failed to come through (this one at least was the Navy's fault). Not to disparage Orleck, she's a storied old girl and quite interesting to tour, but a supercarrier she is not.
This is sad to me not just because I missed out on getting to have an aircraft carrier in my backyard, but because the country missed out on one of the last chances to have another carrier museum. Saratoga was a conventionally powered ship as opposed to nuclear. You really can't turn a nuclear powered ship into a museum; the process of refueling or decommissioning one basically involves ripping the ship open from flight deck to engine room to get at the nuclear fuel. By the time it's done, there's not much reason to put everything back together unless the ship is going back into service. It's why the four Essex and one Midway carriers preserved are all conventionally powered, and ships like the first nuclear powered carrier, USS Enterprise, is currently being scrapped. Besides the Essex and Midway classes, the two Forrestal carriers (Saratoga's class) and the four Kitty Hawks were the only ones that could become museum. Everything else is nuclear powered. There are the ostensibly light carriers we call amphibious assault ships, but it's not the same. The whole situation feels like wasted potential; a big beautiful aircraft carrier losing out to a mediocre NFL team. Am I biased? Yes. Am I sensitive about this because similar plans fell through for my grandpa's ship and she got scrapped too? Also yes. Did the decision to go with the Jaguars probably make the city more money in the long term than Saratoga would have? Probably, but NFL teams and stadiums are a dime a dozen in this country. No one, and I mean no one, can say they have a supercarrier in their backyard.

Thought I'd do some quick book reviews for three sapphic reads I've recently finished.
First one is Mortal Follies by Alexis Hall.
Three stars. I really, really wanted to like this book because the cover is so gorgeous and I wanted so badly to have it on my shelf. Basically how my reading experience goes is that I listen on Audible or read the Kindle and then if I like the book I buy the physical copy, kinda like a murderer displaying trophies of their victims, I dunno why that's the similie I chose to go with. To start with the positives; this book is told in a really cool style with the narrator being an amoral sprite who watches and subtly intervenes over mortal affairs just to collect stories to bring back to their master. Honestly watching them start to slowly and reluctantly feel sympathy for the main leads and their funny commentary was the most entertaining aspect. I also liked the quirky best friend, I find it a shame she didn't get to interact with the narrator, that's a dynamic I would have loved! Sadly they overshadow the main leads who are pretty dull in comparison and the plot feels like two stories mashed together and very rushed because of it, rather than having both the reveal of the villain and the high stakes happen at once at the end to make a better climax and see more of the couple spending time together to build up their connection. This is supposed to have Bridgerton vibes but really lacks the Ton intrigue and politics that make Bridgerton interesting. Bit of a let down but I would be up for reading more stories in this world with the same narrator.
Next up is the Witch and the Vampire by Francesca Flores.
Two stars. Like a lot of people I was really hyped for this book; a sapphic retelling of Rapunzel with witches and vampires, sounds like fun if nothing else. Also, like Mortal Follies, gorgeous cover! But sadly, like Mortal Follies, another let down. And this one doesn't have a fun narrator to save it. This was such a struggle to get through, I felt like a secondaries school English teacher being handed a students first draft, like I could tell the author had a story she really cared about but how it's written is just so basic, with way too much exposition and poorly delivered world building. Similar to another book I read recently, The Shattered Lands, this just feels like it doesn't belong in the YA category, even though it deals with really mature themes and has some graphic, violent moments, the writing style just doesn't suit it.
Her Royal Highness by Rachel Hawking.
Three and a half stars (four if I'm being generous). This book really surprised me, I finished watching Red, White & Royal Blue wanting to find the sapphic equivalent and this kept popping up on booktok. This is just a really sweet teen love story, even if it's by no means perfect. I listened to this on Audible which on the plus side, the narrator had the cutest Texan accent - I have a weakness for Southern Belle accents, can't help it - but it also sadly meant the Scottish accents were awful bordering on hilarious. The history nerd in me does wish we'd got a little more info on the hows and whys of Scotland still having a monarchy, it's just something that's set up without any explanation, but I get that's not the focus. I do feel that the writer had even less understanding of monarchy than who wrote RW&RB, I didn't read that book but going by the movie, the Prince acted mostly on point like a British royal and you felt how important that role was to him wheras Flora could have been just any high profile celebrity or nobility. But again, not the focus, it's high school romance where the alpha queen is revealed to be more than a spoiled brat and the simple country girl falls for her, and that being what it is, it's just very sweet, there's not much more I can say other than it gave me the same corny but cute fluff I got out of watching RW&RB.
Bonus quick review.
Tumblr media
Four and a half stars! I did not think Faerie smut was for me, I skimmed through pretty much all the "spicy" parts in the ACOTAR series (which was also 60% of ACOSF). But I dug this, even though it's filthy as hell, I knew what I was going into, and it just surpassed my expectations. And it's gay, maybe that's why, maybe het spice just rarely does it, but this ticked so many boxes I didn't even know I had. Only took off half a star because it's so short and dammit I know it didn't need to be longer because it's just meant to be simple fantasy porn but, ugh, I got way more invested in this three day love story than I did the whole of Mortal Follies!

Chapter 67: In Which Rhys Gets Distracted by Things Both Important and Not
Read on AO3
Rhys has his own mission for the day. Lace has reported two Rifts in the general direction they’re headed. Cassie and Bull agreed it makes sense to leave Caer Bronach with them and travel together to the ravine where they first found Hawke. Rhys wants to get a better look at the place. He thinks he remembers an idol similar to the one the Red Templars had built in the barracks at Caer Bronach. If the two are connected it has to signify something. Certainly. One more piece for this fucking elaborate puzzle. Even if it’s nothing, he’d rather try to figure it out before taking apart the one at the keep. And it needs to be taken apart because the scouts have made it very clear that they will not be moving into the barracks until its gone. He doubts Leliana’s people will feel differently. Take one puzzle apart. They to put all the pieces into the larger one. Figure out how to make them fit and fill in the holes.
Cassandra allows Rhys just enough time to get a good sketch of the idol in the ravine while the others rest up and say any last farewells. Rhys crouches on the ground, furiously trying to capture the texture of the stones and adequately describe the colors in the margins of his sketchbook. Dorian paces around him, examining the idol from several different angles, musing aloud about possible similarities to various periods of art in Theodosian history and the concurrent religious movements.
“It reminds most of some sculptures I’ve seen from the Anderfels. About three ages ago, just before and just after the Fourth Blight.” Dorian taps his index fingers against his chin and smooths his mustache. “Of course, Blights aren’t conductive to preservation of art, and stacked stone constructions like this don’t have the longest longevity, so their development is difficult to track.”
“Do you recognize this stone?” Rhys points to the chunk of rock acting as the idol’s head with the pencil he’s been gripping too tightly in his rush to get his notes. It’s reddish, similar in tone to red lyrium, but Rhys doesn’t feel any of the warping of the Veil he associates with lyrium – either the heady, drunken buzz of the regular sort or the nauseating buzz of the red. Of course, the sheer amount of red lyrium in the area could be creating too much background interference, if the lyrium has combined with something else. This appears to be the same mineral as the idol in the keep, and he hasn’t gotten any hints of lyrium from it. Some sort of jasper most likely, rust red and earthy.
“That’s more your area of study, Lark. Vegetables, minerals, animals… speaking of -” Dorian stretches his arms behind his back, cracking his shoulders, then extends a hand to Rhys. “Cassandra looks like she wants us back on the horses. Alistair’s group has already left.”
“They’ve got a long ride ahead of them.” Rhys isn’t looking forward to getting back on his horse, but he does prefer the horse to closing the two Rifts. He grabs Dorian’s hand and lets him help pull him to his feet. “And we’ve got a long day.”
“Are you going to be up for it?” Dorian’s lips press together and his eyebrows lower slightly. “Corypheus and that last Rift did do a bit of a number on you. And all this lyrium is making me jumpy. Can’t imagine it’s helping you. Doesn’t your hand respond to it?”
It does. Just a tingly sensation. Somewhat like having ants crawling over his skin. “I’ll manage.” Rhys dusts off his knees and puts away his sketchbook. “It’s just two. Maybe they won’t be stubborn ones.”

don't look at me with those eyes
Had some interesting stuff happen in Clangen! I've been writing little blurbs in my cats' history sections and ended up writing a little ficlet for one of the apprentices in ValleyClan.
I might add more to this bit in the future, but I haven't got the time tonight, so here's this for now!
--
"Maybe if you weren't stuck in your own head all the damn time this wouldn't have happened! That carcass could've fed the Clan for a moon and now, we're going home with nothing!"
Brambleroot's words echoed in Rainpaw's head as he was led into ValleyClan camp. At first, he'd been indignant — it wasn't like he'd meant to get bitten by that fox! — now, though, a single thought had hollowed him out.
... Was it my fault?
Moonface had told Brambleroot to calm down — "Sometimes things like this happen, Brambleroot, don't be so harsh!"
Seemingly unwilling to fight with the older warrior, Brambleroot had grown quiet, choosing to glower at the forest floor instead. Rainpaw had hoped to catch his gaze, to receive some sort of reassurance from his mentor, but the dark dappled tom wouldn't even look at him.
When they reached the healer's den, Breezepaw was quick to staunch the bleeding. Beetleclaw was out, so it was just the brothers and Moonface — Brambleroot had stalked away the second Rainpaw found a nest.
Moonface hunched down next to the apprentice, a concerned expression on the grey warrior's face, "None of that was your fault, you know."
Rainpaw sniffled and ducked his head, hiding his stinging eyes from the warrior. "But I got hurt! I ruined the hunt for us! Brambleroot was right — we could've taken that hawk home!"
"The Clan isn't going to starve, Rainpaw, there's plenty of prey in the valley. One lost carcass won't make any difference," Moonface replied firmly.
"Why was he so angry with me then?" Rainpaw's claws dug into the leaves of his nest; Breezepaw started rubbing some poultice onto his wound.
"'Cause he's a mouse brain," The trainee-healer snapped — he'd been listening to their conversation, slowly growing more and more irritated with each word the two cats spoke, "and he's on a power trip now that he has an apprentice he can boss around."
Moonface narrowed his eyes, then sighed, "I think he's just… worried. When Harepaw got hurt, I could hardly forgive myself, and I think Brambleroot might be going through a similar thing right now."
"That doesn't make how he acted right, though," Breezepaw pointed out sharply — he'd now moved onto dressing the wound with cobwebs.
"Of course not!" Moonface replied, "I'm not saying that Brambleroot wasn't in the wrong, I just think that he said the things he did, because he was… scared."
Rainpaw didn't feel convinced. Moonface noticed his lack of response and gently nudged his leg, "For what's it's worth, I think you did pretty well. You landed a few good hits on that fox!"
When the apprentice looked up, Moonface was smiling at him. Rainpaw tried to return it, but it probably looked as weak as it felt. The den was silent for a moment after, the quiet only broken by the shifting of herbs, and Breezepaw's unintelligable mutterings. Moonface offered to bring Rainpaw something to eat, but Rainpaw said he wasn't hungry — it was a lie, one he wasn't sure the older tom believed, but Moonface relented.
"I'll tell your mother you're in here when she returns from patrol," Moonface promised, "I'll also have a talk with Brambleroot."
He left before Rainpaw could protest.

For the fanfic trope game: enemies to lovers? :3
put a fanfic trope in my inbox and I will tell you:
how likely I am to write it
The similar trope “rivals to lovers” is probably one of my all-time favorite dynamics. Enemies to lovers is a bit more... complicated? So I don’t write it as often (but I do also love it!)
what character(s) or pairing I’d most likely write it for
Solas x Varlas - they’ve actually got a LOT of history, but their Inquisition-era dynamic is essentially “enemies AND lovers” as Varlas tries desperately to get Solas to see things his way...
Other ships I write that have elements of this:
Fenris x Mari Hawke - I wouldn’t call them “enemies” or even full-on “rivals” but they DO butt heads a lot about issues that matter deeply to both of them since my Hawke is a mage.
Eira x Niruin - more of a “rivals to lovers” ship. Niruin thinks she’s full of hot air and absolutely cannot stand her at first!

Tricks and Treats (Werebat Cyris and Astarion Story)
Tumblr media
Summary: The gang takes time to Celebrate Liar’s Night…
The autmumnbral season had come, summer was over and winter would be on their heels…they needed to kill that brain quickly.
But hunting down Orin was a pain in the ass, she was a slippery shapeshifting little bitch and dealing with Gortash was no better…
Gortash and Cyris…had history.
Raucous…hot…noisy…fucking history…
“Gorty has a tendency to hit the more…debaucherous brothels, check for any that offer the “menzoberranzan love trick”, Gorty made me do that all the time with him…” Cyris grumbled, “how…how does the “menzoberranzan love trick” go exactly?” Gale curiously turned to him, Wyll and Roger wondered the same thing.
“You really want to know?” Cyris coyly grinned, “you don’t have to go into detail but I have always wondered how it whent” Gale flusteredly answered, Cyris grinned “they use spider silk rope and cloth to bind and blind you, you are then suspended from the ceiling in which a mild form of the spell “shocking grasp” is used to…stimulate” Cyris purred.
Gale went bright red, Wyll’s jaw hung open and Roger grinned.
“Damn…looks like Gorty’s gone out of town…fuck”, “He’ll return, Orin needs him here to help control the brain, well get him then” Wyll assured Cyris, “in the meantime it looks like Baldur’s Gate is setting up it’s first ever Liar’s Night celebration!” Gale beamed “oh I love this night, dressing up, the pretty masks, all the sweets!” he gleefully hummed.
“Liar’s Night?” Wyll pondered, “it’s a night to celebrate the gods: The Mask and Leira. You were masks to hide who you truly are and have a fun little night of spooky frights and sweet treats” Gale grinned “it’s celebrated all throughout waterdeep and neverwinter”.
“One tradition is that you carve pumpkins and place a candle inside another is to line your pockets with candy and trade it with others for trinkets or other sweets” Gale remarked, Cyris smiled “my village celebrated this night similarly… and differently”, “oh? How so?” Gale pondered as the 4 of them wandered the decorated streets.
“We made offerings to the gods: Urogalan, Brandobrais, Charamalaine and of course the great guardian bat Entumbru. We would dress up in masks to scare away evil spirits, light a bonfire and eat lots of candy” he happily recalled the memories of those harvest festival nights under the great big moon.
“Looks like it’s gonna be a big masquerade parade of sorts…” Roger said as he looked at the fliers, “well we got time, we should celebrate, dress up and enjoy the festivities!” Gale hummed with glee.
“Sounds good” Wyll nodded, “Iam in” Roger chimed in, “let's pick up the others and get some costumes then” Cyris smiled.
Cyris really should have checked the moon phases…
While everyone else enjoyed their masks and costumes…he was stuck in bat mode.
“Darling I have an idea~” Astarion hummed “tonight everyone will think you are an illusion, a really convincing costume if we…convince them darling~?” he cood.
This was…THE STUPIDEST idea Astarion has ever come up with.
The two lovers and their gaggle of misfit friends walked down the streets in their lavish costumes…
Karlack & Wyll dressed in all coppery browns and bright oranges, wearing glowing masks that looked like fire elementals.
Lae’zel was dressed in all silver with a red dragon mask and Halsin was dressed in all greens in a bear mask.
Gale and Shadow heart were dressed in blacks and blues and whites, each had moon masks that compliment each other.
Roger and Allegra just wore squid and wolf masks.
Jaheira was dressed as a Hawk with a similar mask.
Astarion was distressed in rich reds and purples, his mask that of a bat.
Cyris’s costume was going to be lavender, black and pink with a bat mask too but since it was a full moon…he couldn't wear it…
But the gang still whent out…with werebat Cyris…on a leash.
“Don’t panic people, he’s an illusioned druid in wildshape, perfectly harmless, perfectly safe!” Gale called out to worried onlookers and guardsmen, “who wants treats!” Karlach grinned as she handed out candy to children.
Children seemed to absolutely love Cyris, lots of kids wanted to pet him, Cyris didn’t mind this, he thought it was kinda funny and cute.
He was reminded of home and how his village treated him, how they were never afraid of him…
The parade was fun, the treats were sweet and delectable and the games were entertaining…
Everyone participated in Tick-Treating, where you line your pockets with treats and little trinkets and let others pickpocket you…or you could just trade them.
For some unknown reason Gale kept getting rocks…not gemstones…just..plane old rocks…
After the night of fun the gang returned back to Monty’s Chalice to get some sleep.
But when they did…
Sebastian was waiting for them.
“Hey glad you have your costumes on…oh, sorry about the moons Cyris, the other werebats aren't having the best of time either…but we are trying to fix that” he smiled “here” he handed them all little envelopes.
“Oh? What are these?” Gale asked him curiously, “invitations to our Liar’s Night Masquerade party, you are more than welcome to join us” Sebastian happily grinned and left to go to the party.
“Well?...anyone still up to party with vampires?” Karlach grinned, “I have heard from Cyris and astarion that their little community is rather cozy, I’d quite like to visit them” Gale hummed, “then let’s visit” Wyll smiled.
Bloodcrystal Vail was decorated with candles and carved cave-gourds (pumpkins could not grow here sadly). The tavern: Little Hope-Light, was bustling with activity…
The bard got some more instruments to play, the cook wasn't working by himself now and the bar had enchanted colored-lighting thanks to the new wizard in the town.
“Please tell me there are food and drink options-”, “excluding blood? There are don’t worry” Tilla, one of the Gur children turned vampire now hired to be a waitress, told Wyll to ease his nerves.
The gang ate and danced and had a fun time mingling with the spawn, it was…heartwarming to see them living so…so happily down here.
For them to have changed their lives around…
To finally have the freedom and courage to celebrate.
Back at Monty’s the gang found their rooms to be…well getting to be a bit cramped.
They needed a more permanent base-of-operations if they were to continue hunting for the brain, plus having their own home ment they’d save money on rent.
But buying a home ain’t cheap either…and real estate in Baulder’s Gate is a nightmare.
“Shit…what are we going to do?” Allegra grumbled as she nibbled on bacon, Astarion’s face lit up with an idea “Cazador’s old mansion”, everyone was silent.
“What?” he said, “starry…do YOU even WANT to live there anymore? After all the things that happened to you there?” Cyris placed a hand on his shoulder, Astarion smiled “I want to make it mine…to destroy his palace by claiming it as my own, besides…” he pulled out a slip of paper from his pocket “I already took the deed from his vault”.
“...well…the house is pretty spacious” Gale nodded, “plenty of secret passageways around Baldur’s Gate for easy access to places” Shadowheart added, “and a BIG ASS wine cellar” Roger nodded.
Cyris looked to Astarion “only if you are really ok with this”, “I am darling” Astarion hugged him “a house can’t hurt me sunshine.”

Bria was a medical mystery. She didn’t qualify for a diagnosis of Lou Gehrig’s disease or anything similar. Her symptoms were not getting better or worse. Without a diagnosis, the doctor was unable to tell them what her future would look like. All they could do was treat her symptoms. She was diagnosed with epilepsy and prescribed medication. Her brain and muscles were not working together properly. That affected her ability to speak, eat, and walk.
She was paralyzed. The only parts of her body she could move were her head, fingers, and eyes. Technology was always advancing, so maybe one day she could have a computer like Stephen Hawking’s that used the muscles in her cheeks to create text. Mike officially hired a nurse who came highly recommended. She met him and Bria. Her background check was clean and she had compassion for others.
She did occupational therapy and physical therapy at home with her. They stretched her limbs to prevent them from getting stiff. They also worked to improve her muscle strength in her hands. They were going to do water therapy after her cast came off. He also hired a nurse for the evening to morning shift. She helped feed her dinner, take a bath, and get her ready for bed. While she slept, she was on hand in case one of her monitors went off.
Having them there gave him peace of mind. There were times when she forgot to use her machine to communicate, especially when she was tired. It was frustrating because they didn’t know what she wanted or needed, but they remained patient with her. Her seizures made her especially tired. She found out that they happened because signals in her brain couldn’t communicate.
The medication she was taking acted as the go-between. Since she understood why they were happening, it made them a lot less stressful and scary. Her daily routine consisted of exercising, multiple medications that had to be taken at specific times, resting, and multiple tube feedings.
Everything they did was recorded in a notebook that her nurses shared. Mike also went through it. He left notes for them. If she had a seizure, the three of them would know about it. They even recorded meal ideas and recipes, or her moods during the day. She tended to get the zoomies in the evening after dinner. That was when she got a burst of energy and went around the main floor in her wheelchair. She did it until she got tired. Mara thought she looked like a cat running around.
Sometimes the cats rode around with her. They let her enjoy her silliness because she had gone through a lot. She deserved to have some happiness and fun. Sometimes after getting ready for bed, she liked to watch a movie until she fell asleep. Just like a child. She was hooked up to her monitors, so they could detect her heart rate and brain activity.
If she had a seizure or heart problems during the night, the monitors would go off. The nurse was trained in CPR, so she could administer it while they waited for an ambulance. She also made a laminate with her full name, birthdate, medical history, and medications. It also included Mike’s name and phone number. Just in case she was out in public and needed help. It was put into a lanyard and attached to her wheelchair.
I have a traumatic brain injury and epilepsy. I am also nonverbal. I will not be able to answer questions and will need help following instructions. Thank you.
Thankfully, she didn’t have any allergies or issues with food intolerance. That made things easier at the hospital because they didn’t have to worry about giving her something her body couldn’t handle. Phoenix helped out to take his mind off of losing his mother. He also enjoyed spending time with her. She was and always would be his little sister.
He was trained in how to handle her seizures, along with using her feeding tube. She joked she felt like she was eating baby food. Why? Because that’s what it looked like. It kind of did look that way. Was he scared about spending time with her? Yes, he was. He was scared of messing something up and potentially hurting her. While talking to Mike, he learned that he also had a lot of anxiety about taking care of her. It got easier the more he did it.
They were jumping into the unknown with her. They didn’t know what would happen every day. The doctors didn’t know what her future would look like. That was the scariest part. Not having answers was hard, but the doctors could only do so much with the available information.
“What would happen if we all became robots”, he asked her.
“The machine is only as smart as the person using it. A robot cannot feel human emotions. They just follow instructions. They still need humans to maintain them.”
“That’s very true. What if they were like robots that didn’t need humans to maintain them?”
“You would need humans to make more robots. Robots cannot procreate.”
The band laughed, as they listened to their conversation. He thought about that. She was making very good arguments. He had nothing else, so he admitted defeat. Robots make robots, like in a factory. That could be possible, but it would make the world overrun with robots.
After a while, Brad called him back to continue rehearsals. He shook her hand and congratulated her on winning. While they rehearsed, she wore headphones to protect her hearing. They had been invited to perform at Live 8, so they had to practice. She had been invited to join them. They were performing four songs and then another five songs with Jay Z.
She wanted to go, but it wasn’t safe for her to fly. Even with her nurse because of the risk of her having a seizure while in the air. Brad was going to see if they could record it on DVD, so she could watch it from home. It would be on television, but they didn’t know if their performances would be shown. She liked that idea. Thank you. She was very welcome. He shook her hand. During a break, they got to watch as Mike used her feeding tube.
It was connected to her wheelchair. It was a mixture of apples and bananas with oats. It would keep her full until it was time for dinner. As it went through her stomach, she moved her fingers. She usually got tired after eating, so she would likely fall asleep. They could see her starting to get tired. It was almost three in the afternoon, so she would sleep for an hour or two.
If she slept more than that, then they needed to make sure she was okay. Especially since they didn’t have her monitors with them. Mike made a note of the time when she fell asleep. Two hours and fifteen minutes. They checked on her.
She opened her eyes and looked around. Okay, good. Did they wake her up? She was in between awake and asleep. He just wanted to make sure she was alive. She joked that she was alive and as annoying as ever. They laughed. She continued watching them until it was time to go. They said goodbye to her on their way out. Mike got her stuff together before coming over to her. Did she have fun? Yes, very. Good.

I made yet another MHA character, this time because I wanted a historically accurate velociraptor-based OC. Oops lol
I love how her hair came out despite how many times I cried blood texturizing and shading them by hand.
Name: Kirujin Hanebi (To cut swiftly, Beautiful Plume)
Hero name: The Raptor Hero, Star Raptor
Birthday: 6/21
Height: 157 cm
Likes: Fossils, stars, meat
Quirk: Razor feathers – Hanebi is able to harden the black tail feathers and flight feathers on her forearms into razor sharp blade-like weapons that she can shoot across great distances with equally great force. The sharpness of her feathers rivals that of an obsidian blade and can scratch corundum, the second hardest mineral on Earth. While Hanebi shooting her feathers is similar to Hawk’s quirk, she cannot recall or control where her feathers go once she fires them from her body. New feathers regrow quickly should Hanebi have a good amount of fat on her. However, overuse of her quirk not only malnourishes her, but causes her to bleed from her forearms and end of her tail and she needs to eat a lot and sleep after each time she pushes her limits. Her feathers are soft when her quirk is not activated.
Personality: Despite the many hardships in her life, Hanebi is a fun-loving girl. She likes to joke around and make her friends laugh, though she can sometimes get a little carried away and become physically rough. Hanebi also likes to listen to mostly goth and punk music, and is most likely the first to go along with some stupid prank her classmates might come up with. Her love language is randomly biting the people she cares about; mostly on the arm or shoulder, and never hard enough to draw blood. She knows her teeth are sharp.
History: Hanebi had a good childhood as she and her younger brother, Yuso, were raised alone by their mother, Umo. Unfortunately, when Hanebi was seven, Umo suffered a severe mental breakdown and disappeared overnight. It took days before she was found ranting to herself and attacking random people, and little seven year old Hanebi was helpless to help as her mother was institutionalized and diagnosed with severe paranoid schizophrenia. Umo was medicated, but she didn’t get much better.
This left Hanebi and Yuso alone, but only until their grandfather, Ogosoka, took custody of them. Ogosoka is fun-loving and a real joker, and he did his best to nurture his grandchildren’s hopes and dreams; as well as make sure his daughter got the help she needed. He was saddened and yet happy to keep the children when Umo decided to stay at the mental hospital, as she didn’t feel sane enough to care for her beloved son and daughter.
Hanebi tried her best to help take care of and raise Yuso in place of their missing mother, which has strained her relationship with him a little as he hates her mothering him. They often argue due to this. Despite this, Hanebi still cares deeply for her little brother and is quite protective over him.
Hanebi had to deal with some bullying thanks to her raptor-like hands (often called chicken feet hands by others), but she tried her best to ignore it as she helped protect other kids that were being bullied for their differences thanks to their quirks.
Hanebi decided she wanted to become a hero when she met the hero that found her mother and got her some help at the hospital. This hero’s name is Nagareboshi Hohoshi; better known as Starstruck. He keeps in contact with Hanebi and her still-institutionalized mother despite having had to retire after losing both legs and his dominant arm in a fight against a villain. Starstruck is the one that gave Hanebi a special recommendation to U.A..
Fun facts:
- The feathers that make up Hanebi’s hair and most of her forearms and tail are Majolica blue!
- Hanebi’s feather care routine is a complicated and timely process; it makes bathing a pain in the butt.
- Despite having mostly feathers for hair, Hanebi has actual hair beneath the feathers on her head that never grows longer than a few millimeters.
- The star shaved into the side of Hanebi’s head is a homage to Starstruck; the hero that found her mother when she had her mental breakdown and wandered off.
- Hanebi files the ends of her claws down daily so she doesn’t accidentally tear things. Unfiled, they are quite sharp and tear easily into cloth and flesh, as well as stone and even some metals.
- Despite their scaly look, Hanebi’s hands are quite soft and surprisingly dexterous.
- Other than naturally black and slightly pointed nails, Hanebi’s feet are completely normal.
- Hanebi’s tail is non-prehensile and makes things like wearing clothes or sitting down in certain chairs a little hard. It also makes sleeping on her back hard, too, and Hanebi has to be conscious of her tail at all times in order to not accidentally hit people or knock things over. When fighting with her brother, Hanebi has been known to lash out at him by whipping her tail much like an iguana might. She actually learned that little trick from her brother.
- Despite the tail problem, Hanebi actually likes to wear dresses around the house and to bed. She wears shorts under these dresses when they don’t have a hole for her tail. Hanebi also wears shorts under her school skirts; just in case.
- Hanebi has a bad habit of randomly sneaking up on people like she just appeared out of nowhere. She likes to startle people in the dark, as well. Her poor grandfather has nearly had many a heart attack, and her little brother is highly paranoid about going down the hall leading to their bedrooms since Hanebi has jumped out at him from the bathroom in said hall more than once.
- Hanebi’s favorite band is The Cure (her favorite song of theirs is “Burn”, from her favorite movie, The Crow), and she is most definitely low-key goth. Her family isn’t the richest, so she doesn’t have many articles of goth clothes except the baggy black pants with chains and three torn sweaters; one black and gray, one black and purple, and one black and red. She also doesn’t wear any make-up other than eyeliner outside of school.
- Hanebi loves to eat meat, but her favorites are chicken, turkey, and dried squid.
- Hanebi likes to collect fossils, though said collection is fairly small. She gets most of her fossils from her grandfather every year for her birthday and Yuletide. Her favorite fossil is an opalized ammonite she got from her mother when she was six.
- What little money Hanebi gets from doing odd jobs outside of school is used to help raise her little brother, who is three years younger than she is. She helps get him the clothes he needs, as well as the games he likes. It doesn’t matter how many times her grandfather tells her not to worry about it or how often her brother fights with her, Hanebi still does her best to take a maternal role with her brother since their mother cannot.
- Hanebi plans to use a good portion of the money from when she graduates and becomes a notable sidekick and hero to help get her little brother into a good tech-based school, seeing as Yuso is very skilled with with computers.
- Hanebi visits her mother in the mental institution a minimum of twice a week. Sometimes she goes along with her brother and grandfather, sometimes with Hohoshi (Starstruck), or often times alone. Her mother doesn’t talk much and usually just stares out the window in silence, but Hanebi still updates her on hers and her brother’s lives as she tidies up the room.
- Hanebi can be a little bit messy with her personal spaces or areas, though she simply calls this ‘controlled chaos’ and claims she knows where everything is in her clutter.
- Hanebi has a bad habit of body picking if she gets any scabs, though she doesn’t realize she’s picking the scabs until after the fact; another reason she keeps her claws filed down.

warnings: none!
summary: you've been in love with your best friend, miguel diaz, ever since he moved to queens. after spider-man saves you, you have your suspicions on who the masked hero might be.
note: so funny story, i found this edit on pinterest (i don't know who the original editor of this is im sorryyy) and it just gave me the idea to make this! i will also be writing for jaime reyes/blue beetle. i have an imagine in my drafts!
i will be basing miguel's spider-man on andrew garfield’s but apart from that it’ll be mostly similar to tom holland’s. will also be moving them from california to new york for obvious reasons.
miguel diaz was undoubtedly the most amazing person you ever met. so were your friends hawk and eli. although, there was something that set miguel aside from them.
maybe it was the way he always knew the right thing to say. or maybe that electricity that shocked you whenever you were walking next to each other and accidentally graze your hands together.
you looked up at miguel, his eyes fixed on samantha larusso. you knew he had a crush on her, even openly talking about it in the group during lunch.
it broke you. you weren't as rich as sam, you didn't consider yourself as beautiful as her, and you didn't think you were as smart as she was.
the bell loudly rang, snapping you out of your thoughts. you closed your books and shoved them inside your backpack, walking with miguel to the cafeteria where you both sat down and waited for hawk and demetri.
you took a sip from your chocolate milk, looking up to see miguel staring at you.
"don't tell me i have a milk moustache." you chuckle, raising your fingers to check your upper lip.
miguel chuckled and shook his head, "no, you look fine i was just uhh-" miguel looked past you, "just looking at those pigeons."
you looked back at the pigeons and furrowed your eyebrows, it was definitely strange. he wasn't looking at those pigeons, he was looking right at you.
"yeah, yeah... the pigeons." you nod.
hawk and demetri come at the moment, saving miguel from further embarassment.
hawk rambling about how he got into an argument with the history teacher, mr. arnold, over the assignment.
you weren't paying attention though, and by the looks of it neither was miguel, whose eyes you felt stare at you.
you look back at him and gave him a warm smile, pretending to listen to hawk, who by now was done with his rant. "anyways, i was thinking we could go to moon's party tonight?" hawk added.
"isn't it a school night?" you ask.
"well yeah, but that's how you know it's gonna be the cool people only. all the losers are gonna stay home studying." hawk replied.
demetri, miguel, and you looked at each other and then back at hawk.
"dude... we're all staying home and studying tonight, we have a math test tomorrow." demetri remarked.
"come on guys! we haven't done anything since like a month ago! demetri's always studying, (y/n)'s always working, and miguel is... well i don't know! what is it that you're always so busy with?" hawk asked.
miguel's shoulders went stiff as he looked around and stumbled for the right words, "i uhh- well i'm helping johnny out with his work."
you called bullshit. everytime one of you asked miguel to do something with him after school, he always used johnny as an excuse.
johnny was a nice guy tho. he and carmen had gone out on a disastrous date but by the end of it, she decided to give him another chance. ever since then, they had been absolutely inseparable.
"seriously, i think hawk's right. we need to hang out again! we always see each other in school and text but we should do something awesome together!"
the three boys agreed, "then it's settled, we'll do something this weekend."
miguel was gone before the final bell even rang. demetri, hawk, and you looked everywhere for him but like always he was nowhere to be found.
"screw it. let's just do study group at his house!" demetri exclaimed.
-
miguel's grandmother- or yaya, as he called her- answered the door, allowing the three of you in and offering a huge amount of food for all of you.
you sat down on miguel's bed, smelling strongly of him. you closed your eyes, a memory of the first time you met triggering you.
when miguel had just moved here, you were the first friend he made.
you lived in the building across to his and worked at the small coffee shop near those buildings.
miguel walked into the shop, quickly entranced by your beauty that he didn't notice you asking him what he wanted.
"sorry? oh yeah! i just wanted a donut please." he nervously smiled.
you nodded, "sure. what kind?"
"which do you recommend?" he inquired.
you leaned in closer, "between you and me. these are all stale and sort of disgusting. but the donut holes aren't so bad."
miguel laughed softly, "then i'll take some of those."
you nod, quickly ringing his order up. "alright, that'll be $6.29 please." you gave him a tight lipped smile.
miguel quickly took out a $10 dollar bill. while you handed him his change you looked up at him, "you're new here, aren't you?"
he nodded, his dark curls bouncing along. "yeah, how did you know?"
you shrugged, "it might be a very large city but we all know each other around this community." you retorted, "i'm (y/n), by the way." you offer your hand to shake his.
he looks at it before looking back at you and shaking it, "i'm miguel. nice to meet you, (y/n)."
you wrote down your number on a piece of paper, "i know it can get quite overwhelming around these parts. you know, being new here in such a big place. so if you ever wanna hang with me and my friends, you just give me a call."
a wide smile grew on miguel's lips, "that would be awesome! i'll definitely take you up on that offer. thanks a lot, (y/n)."
you nod, "it's no problem. see you around."
"(Y/N!)" demetri belted, “are you still with us?”
you cleared your throat, “yeah! i was just distracted, thinking about stuff.”
“they’re thinking about how they want to make out with miguel.” hawk butt in. you and demetri just groaned and shook your heads. you gently kicked him and went back to your work.
“oh look! spider-man just stopped a robbery at that convenience store we always go to.” demetri showed us his phone.
you and hawk leaned in, “he’s so cool.” you awed.
“dude, what’s your obsession with spider-man?” hawk asked.
“he saves the city, keeps all of us safe, and he’s got cool superpowers!” demetri replied defensively.
“seriously? anyone can do that. shit, i could do that!” hawk scoffed.
you shrugged, “i don’t know, dude. you’re really underestimating spider-man, he’s pretty cool.” you replied, “plus, i think it’s kind of heroic and hot what he does.”
“oooh, you’ve got it bad for spider-man, don’t you?” demetri teased.
you chuckled and shook your head, “no! well maybe yeah but it’s still super awesome!”
“you both are dorks.” hawk shook his head, going back on his phone to text whatever random person he was texting.
as you finished studying, hawk decided that he’d leave since he’s rather hang out with “hot babes” than two losers. demetri was next, his mom called him over for dinner.
that left you alone in miguel’s room. you stood up and yawned, stretching as you walked over to miguel’s mirror.
there was a picture of him hanging by the mirror. you sighed, “hey miguel. did you know i’m like probably deeply in love with you it’s pathetic? yeah, i know you like sam and you’ll probably never wanna see me again but… i just thought you should know that.”
it really was useless in your opinion. the way you were always pining over him when he was already pining for samantha larusso.
you sighed, packing up your stuff and saying goodbye to miguel’s yaya.
the thoughts of miguel still pestered your brain as you walked across the street, looking for your headphones. no matter how hard you tried, they wouldn’t go away. you didn’t even notice the reckless driver in front of you.
it wasn’t until you heard the horn only a few inches near you that you were absolutely paralyzed.
your thoughts quickly faded, chills ran through your body, and as much as you tried, you just couldn’t move out of the way.
was this really it? were you about to die without telling miguel how you felt? the butterflies he incinerated inside you?
a pair of arms swooped in, your legs left the ground and a small yell escaped your lips.
you landed on the sidewalk in front of your building. “holy shit! oh god, what the hell?” your breathing got faster and you felt like you could faint right here, right now.
your eyes darted in front of spider-man, who had his hamds around your waist. “(y/n)! are you alright? that was really close!”
your eyebrows furrowed and you nodded, feeling something extremely familiar about spider-man. “yeah! i think i’m alright- wait, how do you know my name?”
spider-man froze, “well uhh- oh! i know your friend, miguel! i’ve heard lots of good things about you.”
an idea clicked into your head, “oh, you know miguel? tan skin, dark curly hair, and extremely handsome?” you fought the smirk that threatened to form your lips.
“y-yeah! yeah, that’s him! you think he’s handsome?” he asked.
you nodded, “totally. he’s so handsome, intelligent, and charming. but don’t tell him i told you that!”
spider-man nodded in reply, “of course! your uh, your secret’s totally safe with me.” he chuckled.
you heard a gunshots and sirens coming down from the street. “i gotta go! just stay safe and look both ways before crossing, okay?” spider-man yelled as his hands ripped from your waist.
“bye spidey! thanks for saving me!” you waved, watching as the masked hero swung away.
maybe you were a bit woozy from almost getting splattered across the street but you were 100% sure of this.
miguel diaz was spider-man.

Happy Friday! 'You know of me all I can bear to tell.'
After a long debate, I decided to write some Merrill and Fenris friendship for @dadrunkwriting!
It was a strange conversation. Not that she minded, of course, because in Merrill's experience most conversations that were worth having were a little on the strange side. But strange conversations were easier to hold when your conversation partner was... conversational. Talkative. Didn't clench his jaw and curl in on himself as if he was a little hedgehog, hoping to protect his tender belly with his spikes-
In short, it would be more of a conversation if she wasn't talking to Fenris.
"It isn't so terrible, is it? Being around me, I mean. There's so much we can learn about each other, from each other!" Merrill said, keeping her voice low. Hawke's library quickly became the meeting spot of all the crew, and after a hearty meal and lively conversation and perhaps a little too much drink, everyone was sprawled out on couches and cushions and chairs, taking the time to doze in a safe, comfortable, cozy place. That was all anyone really wanted, when it came down to it: warmth, food, and friends.
"Hmmm," Fenris replied. He didn't get up from where he sprawled out on the cushions in front of the fireplace, like a lazy hound or even lazier housecat. Instead he swirled the dark red wine in his wine glass, watching the liquid slosh up the sides of the thick glass. Merrill leaned back against the couch and grinned when Isabela lazily played with her hair.
"You're very good at so many things, and know so much about living in cities. Were cities in Tevinter similar to Kirkwall?" The question slipped out of Merrill's mouth without thought, her mind relaxed due to wine, warmth, and company. But Fenris didn't take offense. He didn't clench up, didn't snarl or snap. He sipped his wine and stared at her, his olive green gold eyes carefully assessing her. Merrill hardly dared breathe wrong, just in case he was startled and ran off. But Fenris stayed, quiet and contemplative, but then...
"In architecture and layout, Kirkwall is similar enough to Qarinus-now Ventus," he finally said. "But all cities are loud and full of people, and all coastal cities smell of the sea. Kirkwall's tendency towards chaos is... perhaps unusual for a city of its size, but not completely out of the ordinary."
"Oh. So it's... normal to feel lost? To get lost?" Merrill asked. Fenris was always so confident in the city, navigating the streets without asking a single question, following an internal map that was impossibly complex. Yet even he called Kirkwall chaotic! Maybe there was hope for her yet.
"Normal enough, I suppose," was Fenris' reply.
"So you got lost back in Tevinter, before you came here?"
"You know of me all I can bear to tell, Merrill," Fenris murmured. "Do not press me further on my recent history."
"I, uh, oh," Merrill replied, silently scolding herself for her lack of tact. "Of course. I, um... can answer questions, if you like? Since I interrogated you. It's only fair!" She added the last bit hastily when Fenris turned his gaze from his wine and to her. Even as he swirled his drink he kept his eyes fixed, contemplative. Who knew what he was thinking at that moment? Really, she ought to know better. A First had to be aware of the needs of her people, all her people, and perhaps they weren't a Clan and she wasn't First or Keeper, but Merrill cared about all of them, Hawke's little band of misfits, and she should have known that Fenris' past was a delicate topic, one he divulged to Hawke and Isabela only-
"When next we travel up the mountain, show me the edible plants. Just... in case I need to run," Fenris said. Merrill opened her mouth to protest, to say that he wouldn't have to run because they were all friends and they'd protect him no matter what- but then she closed it. She promised, and Fenris asked, and was it really so bad if Fenris wanted to learn a little bit about the world, about the wild, about what she knew as home?
"Of course. There's a lot to learn, though! But I'm sure you can manage. We can even start tomorrow! There's some berry bushes on the coast I recognized from the last time we were out!" Merrill exclaimed, and she grinned when finally (finally!) Fenris cracked a smile.
