Hedgehog Hodgepodge: A Story of Espionage, Confusion, and an Evil Plan Gone Haywire
Chapter 18: Stealthy, Wealthy, and Wise
“Here, put these on,” Shadow said, handing Aurora a pair of safety glasses and headphones. “These are for eye and ear protection while we’re here at the range.”
After falling asleep in the crow’s nest at the pier, they were awakened by the sound of someone blasting a marine signal horn. Looking over the edge of the railing, they had seen a snarky-looking capybara sneering at them from the helm. Shadow’s hands had tightened into fists as he imagined himself pummeling the rodent to bits, but one look at Aurora reminded him of his charge.
The capybara would live to creep another day.
Now they were at Scope’s Gun Range and Shadow was placing his own pair of sporty-looking glasses on his face. The bright yellow of the lenses made his eyes appear blaze orange. He was wearing ear plugs to dampen the noise.
After checking in with the Range Safety Officer  (RSO) and listening to a lengthy list of “dos and don’ts,” he assigned them a bench inside the range. Shadow placed a soft case on top of it with a *clunk*, then proceeded to repeat the rules of the range. When he launched into explaining the rules a third time by reading from a pamphlet, Aurora had to stop him.
“Shadow, can’t you just tell me as we go? I know the rules are important, but I kind of tuned you out five minutes ago.” She smiled a sheepish grin.
Shadow gave her a frustrated look, but set aside the pamphlet and began unzipping his bag. Aurora’s small handgun had been stored there for the journey, and he took it out now, along with the magazine. He checked the chamber and loaded the magazine, placing it on the bench facing the target.
Aurora watched his every move. “Do you really know all that much about shooting?” she teased, knowing the answer already.
Shadow smirked at her. “Let the Master show you how it’s done.” Picking up the gun, Shadow got off three bullseye shots and turned his head with a smug grin to Aurora. She rolled her eyes, but a playful smile shone on her face. She loved watching Shadow do something he enjoyed. But that didn’t mean she couldn’t have a little fun with him.
“I’m going to empty the magazine, then reload for you to shoot.”
As he aimed the gun toward the target, Aurora lifted her hand and shot a light projectile in the same direction. Caught off guard, Shadow fired the gun and the bullet imbedded into the ceiling.
“What- Aurora! Why did you do that?!” he stammered, looking around for a threat that might have caused her to react that way. Aurora giggled as she pushed the button to move the target forward.
“Hmm, let’s see,” she began. “One, two, three bullet holes, but four shots fired. Well, Shadow, I guess you’re not the Master after all.”
He stood dumbfounded. If anyone else had done this, he would have obliterated them by now. But it was different with Aurora.
Shadow slowly unchambered the handgun, took out the magazine, and placed everything on the bench. He turned to give Aurora a very stern look.
Aurora thought maybe she had made a huge mistake with what she had done. The smile melted from her face and she was about to start apologizing when Shadow started laughing softly. “You’re lucky we’re the only two in here, or the RSO would have probably kicked you out!” Aurora looked at him wide-eyed. He laughed harder at the mental image.
“Now,” he said, serious again. “If I teach you how to use the gun, will you behave? It’s important that you learn to use it safely. No more pranks.”
Aurora nodded, and Shadow pulled her into position in front of the bench. After reloading the magazine and chamber, he checked the gun again and placed it in her hands.
“Always point the barrel towards the target, no matter what you’re doing,” he said, moving behind her and adjusting her posture. “Only when you’re ready to shoot should you put your finger on the trigger.” He made a few more adjustments and explained how to aim.
“You ready?” Shadow asked, stepping back.
Aurora nodded. “I think so.” Her heart was beating 90 to nothing.
“Then whenever you’re ready…”
Aurora took a deep breath and squeezed the trigger. A loud blast erupted from the barrel of the gun, and the bullet whizzed through the target, coming within inches of Shadow’s bullseye shots. She turned her head to see an amazed looked on Shadow’s face.
“Keep going,” he encouraged her.
Aurora shot six more times, emptying the magazine, and astonishing her boyfriend. He pushed the button to bring the target forward, and gaped at the paper riddled with bullet holes all around the bullseye.
Shadow looked at Aurora. “I’ve never seen anyone shoot this well the first time they’ve held a gun!” Aurora blushed. “You have a natural talent for this,” he continued.
Over the next hour, Shadow showed her how to load the gun and magazine, and she continued to practice her aim. Aurora felt confident knowing that if she ever needed it, she could use the small handgun with ease and safety.
In the lobby of the gun range stood a familiar figure, out of sight and out of mind. He watched through the window in heated displeasure as the couple interacted, so natural and easy in each other’s company. The observer was incognito, having received word from an informant about Aurora’s whereabouts at the pier. From there he had tailed them to the gun range, where he remained scrutinizing their every move.
When Shadow touched Aurora, anger flared within him and he had to look away. But he had learned something from this surveillance: Aurora was naturally good with a gun. He made a mental note to be cautious in the future. The element of surprise would be ideal.
As the surreptitious spectator turned to leave the stifling gun range lobby, he headed toward the door and nearly burst through. The cold air filled his lungs and he could breathe again. Reaching in his coat pocket, he pulled out a small device and tapped it. At once, his communicator honed in on the small gadget and began to track it. After carefully surveying the area, the individual slid the device smoothly under the frame of Shadow’s motorcycle and walked away. He approached a different vehicle from the one he had driven before. Instead of his sleek black sports car, he climbed into a small SUV. It was only the mountains from here, and he needed better traction. A rather toothy grin replaced his angered countenance as he envisioned what was to come.
After grabbing a bite to eat at a nearby deli, Shadow and Aurora set out once again for a destination unknown to her. There was a chill in the air as he turned the motorcycle northward. Up they climbed, higher and higher into the mountains.
At last, Shadow and Aurora arrived at a small cabin tucked into a type of alcove in the mountainside that shrouded it from sight. Aurora shivered violently as they dismounted from the motorcycle and made their way toward the door. Her thin jacket wasn’t nearly enough for this cold weather.
“Wha… what is this place?” she asked through chattering teeth.
“It’s an old G.U.N. hideaway,” said Shadow as he pulled an ancient-looking key from his coat pocket. “You should be safe here.”
The two of them walked into a sparsely furnished room with a fireplace, two chairs, and a coffee table to the right. To the left was a small kitchenette, as well as a hallway that led to what Aurora assumed were the bedrooms.
Shadow quickly closed the door, placed their bags on the coffee table, and moved to start a fire in the fireplace. Aurora picked up a dusty blanket and wrapped it around herself. Soon there was a welcoming fire blazing in the hearth, and she moved to sit down in front of it. As the heat melted away the chill in her bones, she began to relax.
Shadow sat back and studied her, noting the sad look on her face.
“Light,” he said softly, “are you alright?”
She managed a weak smile, as a tear slipped down her cheek.
“I am. I just miss my mom and dad, and I wish I knew exactly what was going on,” she replied.
Shadow leaned forward and gently brushed her tear away with his thumb, letting his hand linger on her face.
“I’m sure things are fine back at home. Right now your mother is probably tearfully watching some sappy romantic comedy, and your father is sitting next to her, bored out of his mind.”
Aurora laughed, picturing the two in her head.
“And you’re here with me,” he continued in a deeper, quieter tone. His eyes were fixed on hers, and his hand felt like a flame to her face.
Aurora sniffed. “That’s another thing. I feel so bad that you’re going to all this trouble and expense for me. I know you’ve got more important things to-“
Shadow moved his hand to place his finger over her lips. His expression became more serious. “Don’t ever think that you’re not worth all of this and more. I’ve got money to burn from 25 years of missions and nothing to spend it on. But money means nothing to me. This mission is everything. I’ve taken it on as my personal responsibility to ensure your safety. Aurora…,” he paused, “…you are my mission.”
Fresh tears poured down her cheeks as he pulled her into his strong embrace. He held her tight as all the fear and confusion and questions of the past twenty-four hours poured out of her in distressed droplets.
When her crying subsided, he gently placed his hand under her chin and lifted her face to his.
“Aurora, there’s something I’ve been wanting to tell you for days - weeks - now, and I never could find the right time.”
His deep crimson eyes held hers in an unrelenting gaze.
“Light… I love you.”
Aurora gasped in utter exhilaration. Pushing herself up, she stopped within inches of her lips touching his. “Shadow…” she breathed as their lips met. Shadow put one hand in her quills and the other on her lower back and pulled her to him tightly. As he brought her closer, he deepened the kiss, passion driving him like a bear to honey. He wanted her - needed her - this very moment. He began kissing her face, her jaw, and her neck, his breath coming in short, rough gusts.
Aurora cradled Shadow’s ear in her hand, caressing it with small kisses, then gently nibbling with her teeth. Shadow let out a low growl of satisfaction. His breathing felt like hot steam burning her skin.
Just as his mouth reached her collarbone, a loud, shrill alarm sounded, sending Aurora scrambling backward and Shadow jumping for his communicator. When he got the alarm stopped, he hung his head and swore under his breath.
“What was that?” Aurora asked, her eyes wide with shock.
“My communicator has been off, but has an emergency setting that allows urgent messages to come through.” Shadow took some deep breaths, trying to slow his racing heartbeat. “It’s probably your father making sure we aren’t touching.”
Aurora laughed nervously and Shadow pulled his communicator open to reveal a voice recording waiting. He tapped the triangle and was surprised to hear Tails’ voice fading in and out.
“Shadow! I hope you can hear me… something weird… if you’re there can you… Sonic…”
Then the voice recording ended.
“What do you think that was all about?” asked Aurora, anxiety creeping back into her chest at the sound of the cryptic message.
“I don’t know,” Shadow replied. “But Sonic knows how to access the emergency setting on my communicator, and I’m sure he or Amy would have called if something was wrong.”
Shadow sat in deep thought for several moments. Then, looking up at Aurora, he said, “I know you’re exhausted. Let me show you to your room.”

Light Consorting With Shadows
Chapter 8: Winning Your Heart
[previous]
For the next several days, many questions surfaced throughout Camelot. Not much was known about this stranger, and much like Aurora they wanted to know more. He had some pretty serious injuries to be treated, so not many of their concerns were answered. Once the doctor gave them word that he was in a better condition, the King finally came around to approach him with questions; the stranger's bed was empty. The bed felt cold so he must have been gone for several hours by now. The doctor confirmed that he had just saw him that morning. Perhaps he will return and give the royal family some information on the ambush?
Or at least, that's what they had hoped for.
"He left this morning." The knight confirmed with Aurora, joining her at the bench near the lake. She could see the disappointment written on Shadow's face. He too, was desperate for answers. This was his home that was attacked. He had expected this individual knew something.
Aurora didn't want to admit it out loud, but she had a feeling this wasn't gonna be the last of this guy. Maybe her gut feeling was wrong this time? It was just a really bad nightmare, that's all. She constantly reminded herself every single day. "Great! We can get back to our training, hm?" Aurora shook the thought off, and quickly got to her feet.
"Not today; you have studying to do." Shadow grinned under his helmet, and patted her shoulder.
In response, her shoulders sagged in disappointment. The princess rather not spend hours and hours of her day behind a desk, and reading a dusty-old-book that somehow wasn't considered outdated. In the book were listed different duties that was "required" when she became queen. Deep down, she really didn't know whether she wanted to carry that responsibility when it came time for her to take her mother's place. She knew there was no persuading the knight, "how about tonight?" He gave a nod in agreement before they parted ways.
---
In the next couple hours, Aurora had fallen asleep with her head buried into her book. Her mentor thankfully didn't make an appearance, so Aurora was alone to take notes (if drawing counted as note-taking). An hour or two later, she fell asleep. Just like her father, she wasn't great at staying still for long periods of times. When she woke up, she saw the sun had gone down. Shutting her book in excitement, she ran out the door with her sword. Adrenaline pumping throughout her body. Down the long hallway, she ran into a servant walking in her direction. Accidently, knocking him to the floor. Muttering an apology, she came to his side, helping him up. When their hands touched though, her fur stood up on the back of her neck. It was as if there was an electric charge of some sort? She couldn't place the sensation. He must have felt the same way, because he was quick to jerk away from her touch. He quickly bowed and ran off in the opposite direction.
Weird... Aurora shuddered as he disappeared.
The princess approached the arena, of course the Knight was already there. She watched him stretch out any stiff muscles, while he was doing so. Aurora disappeared. It was rare that she used her abilities. Especially with him. Sure, he knew that she was gifted with Photokinesis, but during their training sessions, she didn't see the need for them. Outside of their sessions, she was almost afraid to use such power, because many people may look at this gift as magic... which was greatly frowned upon, and feared in Camelot. But, what harm would it be to tease her mentor a little? Unbeknownst to him, she was now behind him, while "cloaked" she reached at his tail and gave it a yank. Slightly, startled, Shadow whirled around to face his foe. Only to notice that his invisible foe was now taking his very own sword. It looked like the sword was just hanging in mid-air. Shadow jerked back, as Aurora aimed at him. He dodged, by mere inches of the blade. Then all of a sudden, the sword was gone too. But, only momentarily. She was limited to a very short span she could make objects disappear. Once it reappeared, it just dropped to the ground.
Shadow was quick to retrieve his weapon of choice, but instead of attacking his invisible rival, he strained to sense when she was about to attack next. Aurora was enjoying this way too much, she could see the frustration all over his face. Despite, the frustration on his face, though, she could have sworn she caught a glimpse of excitement in his eyes. "If you wish to play like that, princess... then so be it." In a flash, he was gone too. He knew that she was limited at her cloaking ability, and eventually she would be compromised, and he could attack.
She saw him reappear at the top of the concrete perimeter around Camelot. In haste, she ran up the wall. Her body was starting to feel the effects, soon she was exposed to her rival. In haste, she rolled into a ball- aiming for Shadow. Instead of disappearing, he caught her spin-dash, and soon they both rolled down the other side of the concrete wall. They uncurled just before they hit the ground, Shadow ontop of her. The pair breathing heavily. "I win." The knight breathed out. He loosened his grip on her wrists, and started to get back to his feet.
Aurora was quick to grab at the collar of his armor, and pulled him down for a kiss. It was a short kiss, but the passion was there and the pair definitely felt it. The princess felt her cheeks burn, and this sensation traveled to the tips of her ears. She smiled against his lips, then pushed him off of her. "I think it is I who won, Shadow." She teased. Reminding him that she did indeed ambush him, and have the upper hand before a few moments ago.
Shadow gathered himself, and stood to his feet. His legs feeling like jelly. His eyes scanned her, before giving a soft chuckle. "Fine." His eyes darting from her gaze, deep down he wanted to pull her into another kiss. This time, he would be taking the lead. Instead, he just wished her goodnight.
Aurora still felt her heart pounding in her chest as she made her way back to the palace, that kiss still fresh on her lips. The princess climbed up to her balcony, and snuck inside, closing the curtains and the door behind her. She didn't notice the condition of her attire until she stepped infront of a mirror. Her dress covered in mud, and torn from the tussle between the hedgehogs. She tossed it aside, and retrieved her nightgown. She would have to remember to get rid of the dress before questions were asked. Aurora couldn't exactly be upfront about their encounter...
--
The next morning, a guard approached Aurora near the end of the corridor of the palace. She had just finished breakfast with her family, and was heading in the direction of her "classroom" to continue her studies that she had forgotten all about. "M'lady?" He cleared his throat, and bowed.
Aurora craned her head in attention, he stood tall before her.
"Your father... I need to speak with him... please." He breathed out, in a panic. Behind her, Sonic emerged. Relief rushed over his face when he saw the King. In haste, Sonic followed the guard. Aurora following suit. They were led down a set of spiral stairs. The princess forgot this place even existed underneath the palace. It wasn't often that Aurora came down here as a child. It was heavily guarded... usually. When they came to the bottom of the stairs, they found one of the guards near the door leading to another room where Sonic had hidden the Chaos Emeralds. He was out cold, in puddle of blood. They soon discovered that the unfortunate guard had succumbed to his injuries. Sonic was vivid.
He was a new father, and a loving husband. Aurora watched as her father announced to his family. It was painful to watch as the wife collapsed on the limp body of her beloved spouse. Throughout the several days, and weeks to follow security was tightened around the palace. Aurora was limited to her studies, and anytime outside of the palace. She understood her father's concerns. If someone were to get ahold of the Chaos Emeralds, they would be in serious trouble. Especially in the wrong hands. But, the royal family knew whoever killed the guard... their intentions weren't not good.
It was storming tonight, lightning pierced the night sky, and occasionally striking the land around them. Being stuck inside the palace, Aurora was getting restless; however, for once she took her father's warnings seriously. She turned a corner, heading to her living quarters. Before she made it to her door... she was pulled aside. A hand covering her mouth before she could make a peep. She squirmed in the stranger's grasp as he pulled her into another room. The only thing she could see in the darkness, was those piercing red eyes.
"Keep quiet, or your next to die under my hand." He whispered against her. Not uttering a sound, he released his hold on her. "Good girl." She saw his toothy grin shine in the darkness.
"What do you want?" She hissed.
"I was watching you the other night. Your powers are... impressive." She wished she could get her heart to calm down. "I could surely use someone like you."
Her ears fell against her head, and she balled her hands into a tight fist. "Use me for what, exactly?" Like that was gonna happen. She thought.
"Oh, don't be naive. I can feel the energy from the Chaos Emeralds that your father keeps hidden." A familiar red glow appeared from his hand, "this is where you come in, my dear. You'll be the key." Aurora wasn't quite sure what he expected of her. Sure, she could go undetected... easily. But, Aurora wasn't sure how her photokinesis would respond to the energy from within the Chaos Emeralds.
Not that she would even think of retrieving the Emeralds for this jerk. However, she wasn't quite sure what this stranger was even capable of. It was clear that he had powers of his own. The pair was quiet in small room, the dark being before her... waiting. Aurora didn't say a single word, and simply kneed him in the stomach. Because the room was dark, she couldn't really draw from a light source right now...so her abilities were limited. When he fell to his knees, she ran for the door. It wasn't long before, Aurora could feel him behind her again. He was furious. She was quicker than him, but she soon discovered that he was capable of moving objects with his mind. Various objects came flying towards her, just barely missing the princess. She was getting closer to the dining room, when she passed by a servant that was busy away with his nightly duties.
Behind her, a large table was lifted into the air. "Watch out!" Aurora warned to the servant. Quick on her feet, she jumped infront of him. Pieces of the furniture crashing into her body.
"Princess, I'm so disappointed in you. Just let me have the Chaos Emeralds, than I'll let you be."
"You have no right to them." A familiar voice from behind them, "if you lay another finger on my daughter-" Sonic threat was interrupted when the dark figure turned around now facing Sonic, Shadow, and Blaze standing at the doorway. He charged towards his new rivals. Chairs, dinnerware, and benches were lifted into the air...aiming in their direction.

When Heaven Calls
The sky is orange. Not the orange of the sunset, beautifully blended with hints of scarlet and violet with the occasional cloud or early star. The stars have long since burned out...and the clouds are but a fond memory. The sun no longer sets; it has grown too large for such an ancient, insignificant thing.
Hence the orange sky.
The heat of a burning sky is nearly unbearable. Centuries past, Mobians—male ones, especially—wore clothing for style, a sense of fashion or luxury. No such luxury exists now. Clothes, thick garments of scratchy materials, are worn to protect against the heat, provide some sense of shade or coolness from the charring heat.
The colossal sun has done more than increase the temperature. It has become an enemy of the world; scorched the grounds to ash and dust, dried up the seas and even the atmosphere. It would be an issue, certainly…
If the citizens of Mobius hadn’t heeded the warning signs. Hadn’t paid attention to the changes in the planet’s climates, hadn’t noticed the sun expanding ever so slowly over the centuries, devouring stars and planets and everything else in its hunger.
But they had.
World leaders had gathered. Solutions had been proposed, tried…and ultimately failed.
Not even the Chaos Emeralds, or the Master Emerald, or both working in tandem, could halt what was declared ‘natural progression’. After all, the sun is just another star. Stars grow, stars feed, and then…stars die.
With their final hope of saving their world exhausted, efforts were redirected to instead saving the people of their world. Expeditions were directed and launched, seeking another home, a better, safer home, for the people of Mobius. For years, decades, they searched.
Then they found one.
A planet so strikingly like Mobius that it seemed too good to be true. But it hadn’t been. The planet was not only hospitable, but perfect for Mobians and practically sparkling with Chaos energy. It was perfect.
So, the planning began to vacate Mobius and journey to this shiny, beautiful new world…the Mobians’ new home. It took years to build plenty of shuttles, even with the technology from Yellow Sky Industries, and by the time the fleet was ready for the voyage…time was nearly out.
“Come with us.” She begged. Her green eyes, so like her ancestor’s that he felt it in his heart of hearts, were damp with tears and shone with the sincerity of her plea. “There’s plenty of room aboard our shuttle.”
Technically speaking, this was true. The shuttles had been built and prepared to accommodate all that was left on Mobius plus extra. She told no lie to him, and he knew that she wasn’t the only one that would like him to take a seat onboard and journey to this new world.
But that was just it, wasn’t it? This was a new world, and…
“There is no room in a new world for an old relic such as I.” Shadow patiently replied and squeezed her shoulders. There was no hint of pink in her quills, but the way she blinked up at him…all he could see for a long moment was his Light, who had left to shine upon him from a place he could not yet reach so very long ago.
Shadow had been careful since her passing…since the passing of his children and grandchildren. He was known of by his descendants, his story a legend among legends not only on Mobius, but among his own lineage, but made sure that while he was known by legend, he wasn’t personally known by any.
Old legends had no place interrupting new stories.
Shadow had kept his promises. Each and every one. He kept watch over his blood as it navigated the centuries and ensured their health and safety and happiness. He’d guarded each addition from afar, blessed the way which they walked, and had never felt more pride and adoration in their accomplishments, in the way they embraced the opportunities to create their own legends.
“But you’re not an old relic! You’re-,” She grabbed his wrists tightly, unwilling to let go. “You’re family, and I won’t leave without you.”
Shadow chuckled lightly. “You remind me so much of her.” He fondly informed her. “She would have dragged me aboard, kicking and screaming, citing that I still had so much to do, so much to discover, and I had no business wasting such an opportunity.”
“Then you should listen!” She pressed.
“I did.” Shadow’s ruby eyes were soft, ancient, and she fell silent. “I did listen to her. Even though I’ve ached without my Aurora since she passed, I carried on. I watched over our family. I helped people. Even saved the world a few times. And now,” Shadow glanced over her head and nodded to the Mobian standing at the door of the shuttle. The time had come. “Now it’s your turn, little star.” He smiled at her, and she sniffled.
“I-I don’t wanna go without you.” She whispered. “There-There’s so much you could teach me, so much we could do together. Don’t make me go without you, please.”
Shadow pulled her close and allowed her tears to soak into his cloak. “Just because you won’t see me doesn’t mean I won’t be there.” He murmured to her. “Just because you can’t see the stars doesn’t mean they don’t shine. My light will always be with you.”
“What-,” She scrubbed her face. Shadow tsked and used his scarf to wipe her cheeks, both surprised and softened that she let him. “What will you do?”
“While you journey to your new world,” Shadow smiled. “I’ll be waiting for my heaven’s arrival.”
“On your own?” She demanded.
“NEGATIVE.” Shadow nodded in greeting, but Omega remained focused on her. His large, clawed hand patted her head consolingly. “WORRY NOT. I SHALL REMAIN BEHIND AND KEEP SHADOW COMPANY UNTIL HIS DEMISE.”
“It will be alright, little star.” Shadow reassured her and gently pushed her to the shuttle. “Now, off you go. That new world isn’t going to come to you!” He huffed a laugh when she whipped around and tossed her arms around him, and he stroked her quills comfortingly, and then she was gone, vanishing into the shuttle.
Shadow and Omega stood side by side on the charred grounds of Mobius’ remains, observing as the fleet of spacecrafts ignited their engines and rose into that burnt orange sky, watching their escape from the devouring sun until they were no longer visible. Briefly, Shadow wondered about this new planet. Would the skies be blue? Or some other marvelous color? Would the flowers smell sweeter than the ones his father-in-law used to pick? Would the beaches be golden, like the one he proposed on?
Shadow shook his head away from those thoughts. He’d been right not to board the shuttle. His time had long passed. The need for an Ultimate Lifeform had long been fulfilled.
And now…now he could finally rest.
Shadow glanced at his oldest friend with a half-smile. “Would you sit with me, Omega?” The ground was hot and dusty and unforgiving, but Shadow saw no need to find a more comfortable spot. There was no longer any such thing on Mobius, and so sat on the harsh, charred earth with his legs crossed and hands folded neatly in his lap. He smiled when he heard the tell-tale whir of Omega’s belts, and the clunk of heavy metal settling on the ground beside him.
“I HAVE AN INQUIRY.”
“Ask, old friend.”
“WE HAVE DISCUSSED MANY THINGS OVER THE CENTURIES.”
“Yes.” Shadow agreed.
“ONE THING YOU HAVE NEVER EXPLAINED TO ME. SINCE I CALCULATE THE SUN WILL SWALLOW MOBIUS IN THREE HOURS, FORTY-THREE MINUTES, AND ELEVEN SECONDS AND DESTROY US BOTH, I WOULD LIKE AN EXPLANATION NOW.”
“Alright.” Shadow pricked his ears.
“IT WAS GERALD ROBOTNIK’S INTENTION TO UTILIZE MOBIAN AND BLACK ARMS DNA TO CREATE THE ULTIMATE LIFEFORM.” Omega stated. “THE FIRST ATTEMPT WAS THE PROTOTYPE KNOWN AS BIOLIZARD.”
“Yes…?”
“I DO NOT COMPUTE HOW A HEDGEHOG WOULD CONSTITUTE AS AN ULTIMATE LIFEFORM.” Omega admitted. “WHY CHOOSE HEDGEHOG DNA TO MERGE WITH BLACK ARMS? WHAT MAKES A HEDGEHOG THE ULTIMATE LIFEFORM?”
Shadow stared at the last remaining creation of Dr. Ivo Robotnik, blinking slowly…before a smile wobbled on his muzzle, and he burst into laughter.
“I AM SERIOUS.” Omega insisted, sounding irritable. “IF PROJECT SHADOW WAS TO YIELD ANY MEASURE OF SUCCESS FROM INCEPTION, THEY SHOULD HAVE CHOSEN THE STRONGEST AVAILABLE MOBIAN DNA. A TIGER, GRIZZLY BEAR, OR EVEN AN ELEPHANT WOULD HAVE MADE MORE SENSE THAN A HEDGEHOG.”
Shadow pounded on the dusty ground, wheezing with tears in his eyes, but after several moments of continuous laughter, finally sat up and grinned at Omega. “That’s what you’ve wondered so long about?”
“COLOR ME CURIOUS.”
Shadow smirked. “After the failure of the Biolizard, the Professor and the other scientists wanted something containable. Powerful, but controllable, yet since Project Shadow was highly classified, the resources for DNA were limited. Hedgehog DNA was one of the few qualifying samples available. That and,” Shadow chortled. “Hedgehogs were Maria’s favorite animal.”
“I SEE.” Omega hummed.
No words passed between the two companions for a long time, and Shadow idly spun the slim golden ring resting on his finger, tarnished by time, never once removed in the centuries since its adornment. He looked up, the heat from the encroaching sun scalding his face, scorching the grounds black as it approached, but he still didn’t move. Instead, he smiled. “Omega?”
“SHADOW.”
“…Thank you. For remaining with me all these years. For staying with me now.”
“…YOU ARE WELCOME, MY FRIEND.”
Shadow bowed his head, closed his eyes, and exhaled slowly. After centuries of waiting, Shadow’s heaven finally came to collect him. Now, after centuries of turmoil and heartache…he could finally know peace.
“Hey there, Spaceman.”
For @e-vay, @evayart for her awesome Sonic Fanart that continues to inspire me!
I'm such a huge Shadora fan, I love that ship, and one of the big "what-ifs" regarding future-future Shadora is Shadow's immortality. Here's one spin on how I think it might go down if Shadow keeps his Immortality in E-Vay's AU!

Concertgoers, a ShadowxAurora fanfic
Alrighty, so I initially was going to make a separate fanfic for the amazing e-vay but it just, well... it didn't work. But I just couldn't leave her hanging so I decided to make a different one, a bit more happy and more (what I’d say) proper than the original. And I was overwhelmed with her support. So as her suggestion, I’m posting it here. It’s below the “read more”.
Seriously, if for some odd reason you aren't following her, you should. She’s so gifted and such a nice person. Thanks again!
“Gah!” The pink hedgehog yelped. “This is so exciting!!” She continued as she paraded in constant circles back and forth in her room, fists brought to her chest shaking in enthusiasm.
Shadow sat in the girl’s windowsill with one leg curled in and the other dangling freely. He had a small content grin on his face as he watched her all giddied up. Though it made him happy to see her like this, he also had his doubts on what he got himself into.
“Oh Shadow!” Aurora crashed into him nearly knocking him right out the window. He flailed just slightly until he got his ground again.
Once free, he backed her away a bit to which she started bouncing in place again. “I’m glad you’re happy Light, but I’d rather you not accidently kill me first.” He looked back behind him at the ground way below.
“Pfsh.” Aurora flicked her wrist in discernment. “A fall from space didn’t kill you. You think a fall from a second story window will?” She toyed but then got right back to her jubilation. “Gah! I just can’t believe this though!” She stepped back and stared blankly forward while throwing her hands onto her quills, gripping them in a failed attempt to contain herself.
‘How can anyone be so excited about a bunch of noise?’ Shadow thought to himself. ‘What could possibly attract anyone to a huge crowd of people with practically no space to breathe and excessively loud blares of deafening music?’ He just didn’t quite get it. But obviously it was something that made the pink hedgehog in front of him happy so he kept to himself.
But as his girlfriend was spitting some incomprehensible babble, a notable voice sounded from across the house. “Tiny? I thought you said you were going to bed?”
“Yea–” but her voice cracked due to all her animation. She cleared her throat and finished the statement. “Yeah, I’m hitting the hay now!” She turned to Shadow who looked up at her as she caught his attention.
“I should get going.” He smiled.
“Okay.” She moved over to him and gave him a quick kiss. “I can’t thank you enough! This is going to be so much fun!” Her grin was stretched entirely across her muzzle and her eyebrows were the highest Shadow has ever seen them. They heard the creaks from the stairs outside Aurora’s bedroom being used. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”
Shadow leapt down from the window and began his trek back home. “Ugh. I’m not looking forward to this.” He mumbled. There wasn’t any issue with Aurora. There wasn’t any issue with going on a date with Aurora. There was just the issue of what they were doing for that date. He had often heard some of the music Aurora listened to when visiting or simply hanging out with the hedgehog and he remembered her favorite band. So when Rouge mentioned she was able to get three last minute tickets to said band’s concert and offered to bring along the hedgehog couple, Shadow couldn’t refuse. No matter how much the whole idea of the thing irked him.
It was pretty apparent he didn’t like to be around people. And it wasn’t hard to annoy the brooding hedgehog either, especially with unnecessarily loud noise. And from what he had heard about the basic contents of concert-going, that pretty much outlined it: a bunch of sweaty strangers bumping into each other screaming and shouting with the blasting of speakers and amplifiers right in the foreground.
“I am not going to enjoy this…” He said aloud again but when he remembered how happy it made his girlfriend, he knew he had to go through with it.
It was the next day and about time for the big show as the young hedgehog was finishing any preparations. “Okay, you all ready?” Amy asked as she pulled closed the strings of a small strap-bag and handed it to her daughter.
“Yup!” She responded energetically and wrapped her hands around her mother in a quick embrace.
“Alright, just remember to call when it’s over.” The mother reassured as Aurora had moved over to her father now to give him a quick peck on the cheek. When finished, she lightly jogged over to Shadow and Rouge as they stood back from the door a bit, waiting for the third member of their party.
“AND NO FUNNY BUSINESS!!” Sonic shouted and glared at Shadow, giving him the whole ‘I’ve got my eyes on you’ sign.
Amy thrust her elbow into his side and told him to hush. “Have fun!” She shouted as Aurora gave a final wave before turning and walked away with her date and with Rouge.
“I can’t thank you enough Aunt Rouge! I’ve wanted to see these guys for sooo long!” Aurora said still with a hop in her voice.
“Oh it’s not a problem sweetie. I’m just surprised your boyfriend here was the one who suggested we go.” She gave Shadow a playful stare from the side of her eyes.
“Yeah, well I’m not all too excited about it.” He safely said once Aurora was a short bit ahead of the two as to not overhear, her stride and pace was quickened by her excitement.
“Oh come on you grump!” The bat chuckled a bit and gave her old friend a light shove. “Quit being a downer and just enjoy yourself for once in your life.”
They made it up to the venue; a small stage that was propped up on the beachside of Bygone Island with the ocean as a nice backdrop. The masses of people were starting to arrive as everyone fluxed through the gates, passing off their tickets in trade for a stamp that was smacked on the back of each attendee’s hand. Already Shadow was getting uncomfortable. Mobians were whizzing by him, bumping slightly but continued on as if nothing had happened. He caught himself snarling at the passersby more than he’d like to have.
“Come on, let’s get real close!” Aurora said, grabbing Shadow’s hand and yanking him forward. The dark hedgehog looked back at his friend, a slight ‘help me’ expression situated on his face. Rouge simply gave a light laugh before following from a distance to join her friends. They snaked through gaps of other groups of people, present for the same reason, making their way toward the stage.
The trio made it to a spot to call their own and next stood waiting, Aurora in front and Shadow between her and Rouge. The vacant spaces around were quickly being occupied and Shadow’s temperament was rising. A small badger teenager accidentally bumped him and invoked an instant response. “Watch it!” He called exasperated. But it fell on deaf ears as the lights on the stage became illuminated and an instant roar from the crowd was heard. Suddenly, a wave of force came from behind as the attendees all closed in to try and get even a few inches closer to the event.
Song after song, the displeasure soared within the dark hedgehog. He could have sworn the music was getting louder and the personal space was getting smaller. But Aurora didn’t seem as fazed as he was. She was right there, dancing away. Occasionally she’d be giving small hops in sync with some of the jumpier songs. This was about the only dampener to the headache he was having. ‘She’s definitely enjoying herself and–’ “How does she have so much space?!”
“It’s because she’s dancing and you’re not, ya grouch.” Rouge decided to answer the hedgehog’s question as he wasn’t even sure he said it aloud. He glared back at her over his shoulder. “I’m NOT dancing.” He growled. It was now Aurora’s turn to interject.
“Oh come on! Dance with me!” She spun and faced him to grab his hands. She moved side to side and directed his hands with hers, back and forth, in her movements while her pouting partner stood still like a statue. He answered with a straight and solemn face. “I’m. NOT. Dancing.” Aurora puffed her cheeks slightly but wasn’t about to let him kill the mood. “Fine.” She said coldly, dropped his hands and went back to enjoying herself.
“Oo Oh. Ouch.” Rouge instigated from behind again.
“What!” Shadow barked.
Rouge huffed and rolled her eyes. “Oh nothing.” But Shadow knew her for too long and stared right through her. “Look, I’m not going to reassure you that you like her, because we all know that.” She taunted. “And while you might be a boring old recluse, she came out to have some fun with her boyfriend. Are you going to deprive her of that?” Shadow looked slightly guilted but she continued. “I’m going to get a drink. The show’s probably almost over and chaos knows I won’t be able to fight this crowd to get back here. I’ll just meet you and Aurora back at the gates. In the meantime, show her a good time! This is a date you dumby!” She turned and squeezed her way through the energetic crowd, keeping her wings tucked close so they won’t get pinched.
He let out a heavy sigh for what he was about to do to himself and followed through. He gently pressed Aurora’s shoulders to get her to turn and face him. And with cheeks nearly as red as the streaks in his quills, he grabbed her hands and began (what he called) dancing. His embarrassment forced his eyes to be fixed at some point in the sky. It took a while for Aurora to comprehend what was going on but soon enough she began moving along. Though it didn’t take long for her to take charge, “Babe, you are a terrible dancer.” She explained with a small snicker.
But unfortunately their dance didn’t last long as the song had just concluded. The crowd gave the complimentary cheers and whistles. The band moved right into their next number. As soon as the first few beats played, Aurora began jumping up and down. She turned around to Shadow again, “THIS IS MY FAVORITE SONG!!” she squealed and turned back to face the stage bouncing again with the beat. Shadow awkwardly shifted his eyes around unsure what to do next.
It was a small break-through, Aurora thought, for her melodramatically somber partner. But she felt something weird around her ankles. “Whoa–” She was suddenly lifted off her feet as Shadow had managed to get beneath her to hoist her up on his shoulders. “Shadow, wh-what are you doing?!” She shouted to overcome the decibels of the crowd.
“You said it was your favorite song Light.” He answered a bit more cheerfully than his current mood would respect.
Aurora looked around to the new world she was introduced to. The masses of concert-goers behind her were like a sea of Mobians with waves and breakers that rose dependently on the beat of the song. She looked ahead and could see this favorite band of hers more clearly than at any moment before in the show. They even seemed closer. Her face lit up. She moved around some of Shadow’s quills to make sure she was comfortable and she gently started bouncing on her boyfriend’s shoulders, belting out every word to the song with perfect pitch. Shadow could see out of the corner of his eyes the light inhibitors in Aurora’s clothes begin to dance with illumination signaling to him that she was more than just enjoying the show. She was loving it.
The song eventually ended and Shadow squatted down to let her off his shoulders. “Oh my chaos, Shadow that was awesome!” Her eyes were gleaming. “Thanks, babe.” She said more calm and affectionately and placed her hand on his cheek to lean in to gave him a kiss. In the background, a slower song started playing. On impulse, Shadow grabbed Aurora’s hand and gave her a quick dancer’s spin until her back was to his chest and he wrapped his arms around her. The audience’s movement staggered to a much slower pace as the crowd simply rocked back and forth. Shadow held Aurora close and moved right along with the people around, not even noticing when he was bumped into. A few sparks of flame were seen overhead in performance of a common slow-song ritual.
“Shadow, thank you so much.” Aurora whispered.
“Don’t thank me, Rouge got the tickets.” He explained.
She gently pushed off of Shadow but then came right back in, this time face to face. She rested her arms around his shoulders and he placed his around the small of her back. “Yeah, but I know how much you hate this sort of thing.” She pressed her forehead against his. They closed their eyes but continued to sway left and right with the music. “A bunch of loud noise, a mass number of people…people in general.” The two let out a small quick laugh. Shadow couldn’t seem to sheathe his smile.
“Anything for you Light.” He choked up.
The two were quite happy with the length of the slow song but alas, all good things must come to an end. The crowd let out another rambunctious cheer but the two didn’t move just yet. They simply opened their eyes and stared back at each other, ending their embrace in a solid kiss.
“Alright fans, this is going to be our last song but don’t worry, we got something awesome planned for you guys!” The frontman called out into the microphone. “We thank you all for coming out tonight! You’ve been great!” Another band member shouted.
They took no time to jump right back into it and started playing again. Much to Shadow’s dismay, it wasn’t another slow-tempo song but at least it wasn’t too crazy. But he continued to dance, with Aurora taking lead of course, which made it all the better. Shadow couldn’t keep his attention off the wonderful form in front of him as she courted his movements and swung his hands and arms where they were supposed to be. He noticed her light inhibitors were beginning to dance just as they were. He tried to smile but found he was already doing so the entire time.
With the end of the song a loud bang was heard and in the oceanic backdrop to the stage fireworks were seen shooting from barges in the waters. The song ended and the crowd roared as the flares were lighting up the sky. Aurora moved in close and Shadow followed suite with his arms wrapping around her. They continued to watch all the colors and flashes that burst into the air above.
“See how much fun it is when you lighten up, you big grump?” Aurora joked as she squeezed Shadow’s hands as they lay clamped across her stomach. “But seriously, thank you. Tonight was wonderful.”
Shadow twitched his head around her quills and gave her a kiss on the neck. He saw her inhibitors flicker once more before continuing his gaze up into the illuminated night sky. “Tonight was fun.”

A sick Amy is a stubborn Amy. Luckily Sonic is just as stubborn.
Tumblr media
@mochiikuura I know you asked about after they’re married, but I decided to go with the first time Shadow would have experienced Aurora being sick instead because he would have absolutely flipped.

Wow, first time asking something here. It's so cool! Sorry if it's kind of a goofy question, but I'm really curious. You know how as a kid or a teen, some people see a fictional character and they start crushing on them or they idolize them and want to be just like that? Has Aurora ever had anyone like that, or would she just think that's kind of silly?
No need to apologize, I love answering questions like these!
Oh Aurora is a huge nerd, so she’s absolutely had crushes/fixations on celebrities and characters. When she was young she was the type to cover her walls in cutouts of her favorite celebrities and posters of her favorite musicians. She's always dreamt of being a singer so most of her fixations were on bands/singers (but a couple of cuties made the wall, too haha)
Tumblr media
And even as a teen she was just as gaga over IRL cuties haha (she is her mother's daughter after all!) Whether you like the ship or not, Aurora absoLUTELY had an instant crush the second she saw a photo of Shadow. Because Shadow is an absolute hottie. Anyone who says they don’t find him attractive is just lying to themselves.

Thank you for the question!

Werehog Kisses 🖤❤️💖
Anon, I know you’re referring to this kiss meme I did, but I try to mix things up so as to not bore you all so I went with a different meme.
Werehogs are so fun to draw but man is it tricky to get the scale right haha
Here’s the blank template if you want to use it yourself!

I can just imagine a “The Princess and the Frog” scenario with Shadow the werehog and Aurora where Aurora kisses him hoping it would turn him back but turns her into her werehog form instead :)
HAHAHA! I love that idea so much!
I hope you don’t mind, I put a little twist on it. Since werewolves turn others by biting and since Shadow’s a rough kisser…

I hope you enjoyed my take on it! I still loved your original idea ❤️
Second panel is a call back to one of my old doodles

I remember there being a comic that you made to where Aurora asked her parents about where babies come from and it ended with baby Rory making a cupcake because Amy said making a baby is like making a cake now I’m picturing mommy Aurora (not to make it sus or that I’m simping I’m saying that because she is a mom) doing the same thing with her kids
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
An attempt was made, but Shadow prefers a more direct method of parenting.
This is the comic Anon is referencing

The Shadora Horde - 2023!
Here are all the ShadowXAurora kids I've made (so far hahaha!). As I always mention, I'm always open to Shadora fankids that you guys make. I can never have too many Shadora babies. I made changes to the original 5 so they're now closer in age and I also balanced out their powers more. Some of them were a little OP originally but I think I've fixed it. I have super detailed descriptions of each character below the cut!
PIPER
Birthday: 11/12 (1st Born)
Age: 16
Role: Leader
Powers: Combustion, Weapon Summoning
Weaknesses: Disorder
Dream Voice Actor: Brittany Snow
Theme Song: “Smile” - Wolf Alice
Piper is the first born in the first litter of Aurora and Shadow and is the natural leader of the group. She is generally sweet and respectful but is very proud of her pedigree so can be a little judgemental at times. She is a perfectionist to a fault and will become easily aggravated if things don’t go her way. Though she can be cocky, she is overall a caring and loving person and is quick to help those in need. Piper has naturally wild bangs and a large patch of fluffy fur on her chest. These traits drive her crazy! She always has her bangs pinned down to the side and her chest fur covered up. In her teen years she takes up motorcycle riding and it helps loosen her up and embrace her more wild side.
Piper is capable of harnessing the power of the Chaos Emeralds to perform Chaos Blast and Chaos Control. Without the need for Chaos Emeralds, Piper has combustion powers. Piper can incinerate objects with a snap of her fingers. She has excellent mastery and precision of this skill. She was given the task to train Cinder to control his combustion powers, but the two tend to get frustrated with each other since control comes so naturally to Piper and it’s incredibly foreign to Cinder.
Piper is naturally drawn to Amy’s hammer wielding abilities and grows up admiring it. Though she isn’t allowed to use the Piko Piko Hammer, Amy trains her in good hammer-form with the use of props. IF Mammy Amy ever decides to retire, she will bequeath her hammer to Piper. The hammer’s design will change based on Piper’s personality.
-
ZANE
Birthday: 11/12 (2nd Born)
Age: 16
Powers: Super Speed
Weaknesses: Arachnophobia
Dream Voice Actor: Robert Buckley
Theme Song: “We Are Young” - 3OH!3
Zane is the second born in the first litter of Aurora and Shadow. Zane is a daredevil and an extreme extrovert. He is most like his Pawpaw Sonic with his quick wit and high energy. He does not like emotional confrontations and will go out of his way to avoid uncomfortable situations. Even though he’s mostly easygoing, he butts heads with his dad a lot.
Zane is a huge flirt and frequently develops intense crushes on people, but due to his short attention span, he’ll move on quickly (think Romeo with Rosaline). Zane is very fond of children and enjoys being the center of attention. Even though Piper is the leader of the group, the younger siblings tend to follow whatever Zane is doing. Lucky for Piper, he mostly listens to what she says.
Zane is capable of harnessing the power of the Chaos Emeralds to perform Chaos Control. Without the need for Chaos Emeralds, Zane has super speed. He wears special shoes that can transform based on his needs, but he prefers the motocross boot style when he’s not running.
For hobbies, Zane likes to do extreme stunts and attend/throw parties. He has dreams of being a DJ with his brother Nova.
-
NOVA
Birthday: 11/12 (3rd Born)
Age: 16
Powers: Plasma (Ionikinetic Combat)
Weaknesses: Laziness
Dream Voice Actor: Josh Keaton
Theme Song: “Weirdo” - K.Flay
Nova is the third born in the first litter of Aurora and Shadow. He is very peaceful in nature and would rather find roundabout ways to solve problems than coming to blows (though he attributes this to knowing he would cream his opponent due to this strong bloodline). He’s a bit of an oddball but he embraces his quirkiness instead of being concerned about how others think of him. He often comes off as aloof and is rather lazy.
Nova is capable of harnessing the power of the Chaos Emeralds to perform Chaos Control. Without the need for Chaos Emeralds, Nova has plasma/Ionikenetic powers. He can shoot radioactive plasma at his enemies which can burn or dissolve material on impact. Nova does not like using his powers because they are so destructive.
Nova is very close with his brother Zane and will go along with his schemes, even if his heart’s not entirely in it. He is artistic and tends to live a very messy, disheveled lifestyle. He loves to collect things and can be considered a packrat.
-
ASTER
Birthday: 4/8 (4th born)
Age: 15
Powers: Telekinesis, Telepathy
Weaknesses: Codependency
Dream Voice Actor: SungWon Cho [x]
Theme Song: “Despair and Traffic” - SOFT PLAY
Aster is the first born in the second litter of Aurora and Shadow. Though he seems rough on the surface, he’s actually the most academically intelligent of all his siblings. He is loud and passive aggressive but can appreciate the beauty in peace and quiet when he chooses. He is very theatrical and enjoys making a huge spectacle out of his battles, including saying poetic catchphrases and even coining the term “Prepare for the Blitz-Aster Disaster!” He is secretly a romantic at heart.
Aster is rarely seen without his sister Blitz. He is the brain to her brawn. Though he’s the more level-headed twin, Blitz’s dominant personality tends to direct their fighting strategies. He does not know how to be independent, which can be used against him.
Aster is capable of harnessing the power of the Chaos Emeralds to perform Chaos Control. Without the need for Chaos Emeralds, Aster shows early signs of telekinetic and telepathic abilities. He hasn’t mastered many techniques yet, but with some proper training it’s possible he could become a force to be reckoned with. If only Blitz would shut up for 5 minutes so he could concentrate!
Aster enjoys challenging mind games, like chess.
-
BLITZ
Birthday: 4/8 (5th born)
Age: 15
Powers: Energy Blasts (“Chaos Spear”)
Weaknesses: Codependency, Impulsivity
Dream Voice Actor: Jessica DiCicco [x] [x] OR Chloë Grace Moretz [x]
Theme Song: “God Complex (Mojo)” - poutyface
Blitz is the second born in the second litter of Aurora and Shadow. Blitz is brash and forward but can be a little spacey. She has a short attention span and is easily bored. She considers fighting as a form of playing. She is very proud of herself and her heritage and isn’t afraid to namedrop to get her way.
Blitz is rarely seen without her brother Aster. She is the brawn to his brain. Blitz’s dominant personality tends to direct their fighting strategies despite her brother’s concerns. She is very theatrical and enjoys making a huge spectacle out of her battles, including saying poetic catchphrases and even coining the term “Prepare for the Blitz-Aster Disaster!” She is very codependent and hates doing anything without Aster.
Blitz is capable of harnessing the power of the Chaos Emeralds to perform Chaos Control. Without the need for Chaos Emeralds, Blitz has the natural ability to perform Chaos Spear which can dagger her enemies with energy.
Blitz loves fashion and is a huge trendsetter. She would love to be a fashion designer if world domination doesn’t work out (She’s just kidding – relax already!)
-
Cinder
Birthday: 2/18 (6th born)
Age: 14
Powers: Combustion, Stellar Tantrum
Weaknesses: Migraines, Short Temper
Dream Voice Actor: Michael Daingerfield [x] [x]
Theme Song: “Tantrum” - Ashnikko
Cinder is the first born in the third litter of Aurora and Shadow. He has a very short temper and is incredibly impatient. He is the most like his father in that he is not very talkative and would rather be left alone than socialize with others. His outbursts of rage can often be used to his enemies’ advantage by being misdirected to his siblings and teammates. He is also terrified of himself, which makes him constantly on edge.
Cinder is NOT capable of using Chaos Emeralds and instead has to rely on his natural abilities. Cinder has combustion powers, but unlike his sister Piper, his powers are based solely on his emotions so he has a very hard time commanding the direction and radius of his blasts. Piper was tasked with training Cinder to better manage his combustion powers, but the two tend to get frustrated with each other since control comes so naturally to Piper and it’s incredibly foreign to Cinder. When Cinder goes into a blinding rage, his fur and eyes change color and sparks of energy will fire off randomly around him. When in this form, he can perform a move called “Stellar Tantrum.” This move is highly destructive and will incinerate any and all objects nearby. He has absolutely no control over this power once it’s unleashed.
As a child, Cinder was more outgoing but still prone to crying outbursts. However, during one particular fight with his sister Diamond, he accidentally unleashed a Stellar Tantrum and severely burned her. Luckily Boon was able to use his healing powers to reverse it, but Cinder has never forgiven himself and has never been the same ever since. Cinder requested a special Inhibitor necklace be made to help dampen his powers, but it’s not very effective. It works more as a placebo than anything else. He keeps everyone at a distance whenever possible and thinks there’s something evil in him, despite his parents’ reassurances.
Cinder doesn’t like to discuss his hobbies, but he actually loves baking and reading books.
-
DIAMOND
Birthday: 2/18 (7th Born)
Age: 14
Role: Tank
Powers: Brute Strength
Weaknesses: Poor eyesight, Light sensitivity
Dream Voice Actor: Kimberly Brooks [x] [x] [x]
Theme Song: “Cleopatra” - Nova Twins
Diamond is the second born in the third litter of Aurora and Shadow. She has a sweet disposition and is very polite, even to her opponents. However, she can be a smart ass at times and is quick to make jokes. She is highly dedicated to physical training but outside of the gym she’s very easy-going. Diamond was born with Oculocutaneous albinism. Due to her albinism and nystagmus, she is sensitive to light and has very poor eyesight. As a baby and toddler, Diamond mostly clung to Aurora whenever outdoors as she could bend the light around Diamond and protect her from UV rays. As Diamond got older and grew more independent, Tails’ Workshop crafted a special brooch that acts as a light shield when activated. Diamond never leaves home without it.
Diamond is NOT capable of using Chaos Emeralds and instead has to rely on her natural abilities. She has incredible strength and is physically the strongest of all her relatives.
As a child, she and her brother Cinder got into a fight where he accidentally unleashed a Stellar Tantrum and severely burned her. Luckily Boon was able to use his healing powers to reverse it. She has completely forgiven Cinder and has never held it against him, but he continues to be distant with her to this day.
She enjoys training in the Shadora Home Gym to better perfect her fighting skills and she is almost always found sporting earbuds so she can listen to her favorite punk rock and metal bands.
-
Boon
Birthday: 2/18 (8th Born)
Age: 14
Role: Support
Powers: Healing, Mood-Boosting
Weaknesses: People-pleasing
Dream Voice Actor: Ben Schwartz [x] ← Please watch this whole interview, it will leave you grinning ear-to-ear the whole way through
Theme Song: “Smile” - Dami Im
Boon is the third born in the third litter of Aurora and Shadow. Boon is the embodiment of a ray of sunshine and has 10000% charisma. He genuinely loves everyone he meets and enjoys putting smiles on people’s faces. Boon is very silly and has a very childish sense of humor. He also has a lot of energy and has a habit of rambling without realizing it.
Boon is NOT capable of using Chaos Emeralds and instead has to rely on his natural abilities. He has incredible healing abilities and can heal the wounded, but it takes a lot of energy from him so can only do so much at a time. He cannot revive the dead. Boon also has a “mood-boosting” ability, where he can positively affect the emotions of others. This can only be done by making direct contact with someone and the effect only lasts temporarily. Boon’s powers positively affected Aurora’s pregnancy, making her third litter the easiest and stress free of all her pregnancies (Thank you, Boon!)
Boon wears special rocket boots so he can quickly fly to anyone in battle who needs assistance. His boots have a button on the heel to activate them, and he likes to click his heels together to turn them on. Though he never complains about his duties, Aurora often worries about Boon’s need to please others and reminds him that he can’t help others if he doesn’t help himself. Aurora and Boon are the most alike of all her children as both are prone to singing outbursts, goofy jokes and harmless pranks to make people laugh.
All Shadora kids are mortal and did not inherit Shadow’s immortality. However, they do heal faster than the average Mobian.
Want to get more of a feel for the Shadora kids? I've made a Spotify playlist dedicate to their theme songs, songs that make me think of them, or general music they would listen to. You can listen to it here, but be warned it contains explicit songs.
A NOTE ABOUT SHADOW’S “AGE”
Shadow is immortal so therefore he doesn’t age. However it’s been long debated in my Shadora stories whether or not he will give up his immortality to live a normal life with his family. I have him in these drawings as still being immortal, especially because I like the angst and challenges that comes with (ex: how are your rebellious teenagers supposed to respect you when they are seemingly “older” than you?) but I haven’t actually decided when he will decide to be mortal.
BUT if you ever draw me fanart or write me fanfics and you want to have become mortal at an earlier point in his life I’m totally cool with that! I’m flexible.
