god i love the part of the leroux novel when erik “have i really committed murders?” phantomopera is like “christine if you marry me i would be as gentle as a lamb………….” while the daroga and raoul are being microwaved and there’s a mountain of gunpowder beneath their feet ready to explode and kill them all if she says no
Not happy about the language, but this made me laugh so hard. I have yet to read the book because I love the movie so much, and I know they’re so different.
it's immensely funny to me how andrew lloyd webber read this passage from the book and was like yeah the journey down to the phantom's lair is this really breathtaking magical gondola ride where christine is just captivated by the strange and fantastical beauty of it all (see below)
when in the novel they're both like in a rowboat in the dark with christine scared out of her mind and confused as hell while erik is paddling like he's out for an extreme day of fishing and just staring christine down for the entire duration of the journey without blinking once . like mind you his eyes quite literally GLOW in the DARK and he's just fucking staring into her soul and silently rowing and probably not even breathing like
The thing that's so cool about Shadow is that his original motives actually make sense, regardless of Gerald brainwashing him. He went through so much pain on the Ark so that they could find the formula for immortality. So they could cure Maria, his SISTER. And then she was killed. It was all for nothing.
Shadow had every reason to hate humanity. They took everything from him and it was about time he returned the favor.
It was only because of the fact that Maria means so much to him that he changed his mind in the end. Shadow made a promise to Maria and he NEVER breaks his promises. Ever. If it weren't for his pure integrity, Shadow would've destroyed Earth without a second thought.
And he would’ve gone down with the ship. We saw what Shadow was doing when the Ark started falling. He was just standing there, looking out the window. He wasn't trying to save himself in any way. He was just done. So tired of fighting and ready for it to be over.
It was only Amy reminding him of his promise to Maria that gave him the motivation to keep going. To do everything he could to reverse all the damage he'd done.
He had no reason to care. But Maria means that much to him.
This comic is dedicated to my niece “Bella” who is learning how to read!

P.S. I firmly believe Sonic will agree to any costume that involves bandanas/scarves/ascots
Love what this person had to say about Knuckles and the Divergence Prologue!!!
What did you think of Sonic Frontiers Prologue: Divergence? And more generally, what do you think of the other Sonic the Hedgehog animated shorts?
It was cool getting a chance to see Knuckles sort of in his element. A lot of games incorporate him as the "stranger in a strange land" guy who spent all of his life isolated and alone, and a lot more games ignore that entirely and just have him be a zero-personality "guy" that tags along for no reason.
Divergence showing Knuckles thriving on Angel Island, doing what he knows how to do, giving us a taste of his day to day life, and showing us he's more than just dumb comic relief. And then giving him another moment to show his combat skills and that he can be more than just angry, too.
It makes Knuckles a person again, maybe for the first time since 1999.
I have almost universally enjoyed every single Sonic animated short. Some more than others (the Team Sonic Racing short was a little too by the books for me), but I'm deeply grateful they exist and I hope they keep doing more with 2D animation. As much as I'd really want another Night of the Werehog caliber CG short, I think I prefer Sega doing 2D animation because it's starting to feel like such a lost art.
I've said it before, but I really want Sega to hold on to guys like Tyson Hesse as tightly as they can. By all means, don't overwork the guy, stay on friendly terms, but give him everything he wants so he keeps working for you. Evan and Ian now, too. Sonic fans know what they want and are literally out there trying to save this franchise in ways nobody else is. Don't let them go.
