Reader’s Comments: This was such an amazing read, featuring Merlin and Arthur from 10 years in the future showing up on the doorstep of Merlin and Arthur around the beginning of season 4, there are revelations about feelings and magic and all that jazz, plus bonus morgwen! Very very cute and plot-heavy in a good way as the future M&A struggle to get back to their own time.

Merlin but Merlin loses it when Arthur dies and instinctively starts a time loop and every time Arthur dies it automatically resets...for angst purposes it could stay tragic..no matter what he does to change the past kilgharra was right. no one can change their destiny nor can they escape it. or by starting this time loop at all he's doing is preventing the rise of the once and future king so by staving off Arthur's death he's actually preventing anyone from ever really living again. a never ending story with one character aware of the narrative but powerless to change it. a puppet with a brain but no autonomy to put it to use. A tragedy of his own making instead the one prophesized

#so that it doesn't work on the first try maybe morgana remembers and interferes or #maybe future Merlin is a sort of apparition that can only act if his old body lets him. he talks to past him like a ghost or demon even #so what he's saying directly contradicts kilgharra or gaius so present merlin probably distrusts him like crazy #merlin becomes another old annoying person in his own ear #who he doesn't even know if he can trust #OR he ends up sending arthur back by accident and arthur is in the past trying to fix shit #and this CHANGES something because now there's warnings of a great ending of all things coming for Camelot and by extension albion #and arthur knowing about Merlin's powers after keeping his knowledge to himself (cos he died RIGHT after learning about the magic) #finally understands the burden merlin had without having to try and understand based on Merlin's summary of an explanation alone #he understands morgana and mordred even nimueh like he GETS it gets it #anyway time goes on canon events are rewritten and the 'great evil' rips a giant hole in space and time and it turns out #future merlin was the cause. because he was smashing alternate realities to pieces looking for arthur is desperation #not knowing where the hell he even sent him breaking any known laws of time and space and reality consequences be damned #arthur cannot kill merlin. he cannot do it. not even for Camelot #so this can be angsty too like merlin loses himself completely in the search for arthur (paralleling the og timeline where Merlin ends up #singularly focused on Arthur's safety instead of his true mission) #and it literally swallows him and their entire known world up #or they get through to him. arthur AND past merlin. seeing that past him was able to diverge from the set path. live more for himself #than just arthur or for the sake of camelot be a PERSON outside of that. and have knowledge that he DID change arthur's mind. #not just as a useless deathbed confession but as something that actively changed and SAVED albion redeemed him of the mistakes he made and #proved that arthur is the man the KING he told every antagonist he was #future merlin sacrifices himself to destroy the black hole he made and it's like that future never even was. #just a bad nightmare you can't really remember. #just thinking about Merlin god bless #bbc merlin #fic ideas

Being a medieval geek and watching medieval shows is both a blessing and a curse, because sometimes the anachronism is funny, and other times it makes you want to throttle the writers and ask them what the fuck they're doing.

Funny Things: technically none of the saddles on BBC Merlin should have stirrups, those didn't reach England until 10th century during the Viking invasions. The shiny decoration on Morgana's green dress wouldn't be beading but most likely preserved beetle shells. The bright red colour of the Pendragon banners and capes would come from a dye made with bugs.

I-Have-QUESTIONS Things: If Gaius and Hunith are supposed to be siblings and Gaius wasn't previously a freeman (ergo bound in service to Camelot, meaning his entire family was also) how did Hunith end up in another kingdom, that's literally illegal, she's also got an education that she clearly passed on to Merlin, so their family must have had wealth/importance at one point, so again WHY IS SHE IN PODUNK, ESSETIR, and [gunshots]

here me out: Young Hunith was an anarchist and deliberately left Camelot bc she wanted to start her own life somewhere else, thereby going against Gaius's wishes to stay low and keep the peace. unlike her relative Gaius, who stayed bc that was the law and whatnot, Hunith said "fuck that" and in this essay i will--

Summary: 

Arthur Pendragon and Merlin were literally from two different worlds. One is a prince from a great kingdom and the other a common farm boy from the next kingdom over. These two should have never met.

But that was before they realized their parents were once friends and arranged the two of them to marry when they reached adulthood. That was before Uther turned on magic and Hunith went on the run with her infant son.

Now almost twenty years have passed and these two boys have grown into men. Camelot knights have found Hunith and come to collect her son.

Will Merlin survive this new world he has been thrusted into? A peasant among royals, a sorcerer among those that would have him killed if they found out. Can Merlin even begin to hope for happiness when the prince he is forced to marry wants nothing to do with him?

Follows canon but with my own arranged marriage spin to it

OH no no i haven't, i don't think it's even open yet. playbill recently posted an article about/photos showing the stage/theater design for the broadway production; i think it looks crummy. i am not paying any real actual money to go see that show lol

Insofar as televised inspiration, my writing has been irrevocably influenced by The Twilight Zone (1959-1964), Starz Camelot (2011), Sinbad (2012), and Black Sails (2014-2017). These shows have virtually nothing in common, they just stuck in my brain and won’t leave me alone. Haunted I tell you. Haunted. Now I’m making it everyone else’s problem with my own stories.

they are a band! they're a "steampunk folk concept band" is what google says

their whole deal is that they're immortal space pirates that travel through space and find tragedies to turn into songs/albums!

their albums are based off of legends/mythology/fairytales.

they have four main albums. Once Upon A Time (In Space), which is based off fairytales, Ulysses Dies At Dawn, which is greek mythology, High Noon Over Camelot, my personal favorite and based off of arthurian legends, and The Bifrost Incident, norse mythology and my second favorite.

they have two other albums, tales to be told and tales to be told volume 2. the songs in these albums are either extra songs that take place during/after/before the other album's storylines OR they're about the mechanisms themselves.

i have yet to hear a song from them that i don't like.

Armel had to dig deep to find the courage to continue, “My third flaw is I’m absolutely terrified of people leaving me. Sometimes it feels like everyone I love could disappear at any moment and there’s nothing I can do to stop it.” He gave a derisive snort, “I also have hard time trusting people for some reason. To trust that they like me for me or.. or that they won’t betray me in some way. I- sorry, this is stupid.” Armel began to shake his head, but Merlin was off his stool and at his side in an instant, a hand pressed against his cheek.

His gaze was unwavering, “It’s not stupid, Arthur. After everything you went through, after everything that happened. Gods, none of it, none of it, was your fault. It was mine, and I’m so so sorry.”

Merlin’s presence was overwhelming; a sudden intensity charged every word, movement, and look. Even the hand pressed against his cheek conveyed a sense of urgency.

Armel wet his lips searching Merlin’s face for an answer, “Who’s Arthur?” 

It was absolutely the wrong thing to say. Armel watched helplessly as Merlin retreated into himself, his eyes becoming unfocused as his hand fell away, looking like he would collapse any second.

“Hey, stay with me Merlin.” One hand caught him around the waist and the other pressed Merlin’s hand back to his cheek. “It’s okay, you’re okay. Look at me Merlin.” When Merlin wouldn’t look at him, Armel tried again but with more authority, “Merlin, look at me.”

Merlin’s eyes were still glazed over and his pupils blown wide, but at least he was looking at him.

He pressed their foreheads together continuing to talk Merlin through whatever memory gripped him. Armel burned with curiosity to know how this Arthur could inspire such love and such agony at the same time. What had happened to Merlin that he could privately smile when he thought of him, but then have a panic attack at the mere utterance of his name? ---
