Reader’s Comments: This was such an amazing read, featuring Merlin and Arthur from 10 years in the future showing up on the doorstep of Merlin and Arthur around the beginning of season 4, there are revelations about feelings and magic and all that jazz, plus bonus morgwen! Very very cute and plot-heavy in a good way as the future M&A struggle to get back to their own time.

Hi! I was wondering if there were any fics involving Merlin being not exactly human, more godlike or just pure magic?

For example, I remember reading a fic where Merlin "came into" his full power and was basically taken over by his magic, to the point where he only called himself Emrys and could see Arthur's destiny and stuff. I cant remember what it was called but that premise is really cool to me! Obviously it's kinda specific so if you know of anything even remotely similar I would be ecstatic! Either merthur or gen, if possible ❤️❤️

For better or for worse, Arthur knows Merlin's secret. The problem? Merlin doesn't know Arthur knows. This leaves Arthur with a predicament... and an opportunity. A test. Three trials and three opportunities for Merlin to prove he doesn't deserve death. Arthur hopes he will pass them. Maybe then the image of Merlin's golden eyes will stop haunting him.

"But then Merlin opened his mouth. A noise unlike any sound Arthur had ever heard escaped from it. Loud and rumbling and guttural, inhuman, and in no way, shape, or form could actually be coming from his manservant.

But it was. And Merlin was speaking.

"O drakon, e male so ftengometta tesd'hup'anankes! Erkheo!"

For a minute, there was complete silence—a silence in which Arthur just stared from behind a tree in an incomprehensive daze.

But then there was a sound. Both loud and forceful and... familiar.

The sound of flapping wings."

AKA an in-depth character study of Arthur but with a large dose of angst and suspense. I do not endorse Arthur's actions, but this is what I think he'd do in canon. This was my season 3 prediction!

There were several long moments of tense silence as the gravity of the situation sunk in. Merlin had used magic, and Arthur had been awake. Arthur had seen.

When Arthur finds out Merlin has magic, at first, he’s angry, then he feels betrayed, then torn—ultimately he doesn’t know what, exactly, to do with his manservant. Of course, he could never hurt Merlin, could he?

Set in the middle of season 2 just before The Nightmare Begins, Arthur learns about Merlin's magic. This story shows several select episodes, as well as our own scenes following the canon narrative from the perspective of Arthur knowing about Merlin’s magic.

Summary:

“He cursed me. I’m coughing up flowers, Gaius—what other possible explanation is there?”

“Well, there is—”

“He was mad at me, it’s exactly something he would do. Infuriating, obnoxious, thrice-damned sorcerer that he is probably finds it funny to—”

It is said that the sins of the father should not be cast upon the son. Unfortunately, a father's miscalculated bargain can still come back to haunt you—Arthur is twenty-one, has a kingdom to rule, and apparently, a magically binding marriage contract with the Prince of Escetir. Prince Merlin, who has magic, a dragon, great dislike for Arthur, and still no intention to back out of the contract.

The worst part is, to a degree, Arthur understands—as a sorcerer, he wouldn't trust Uther Pendragon's son either. So he simply has to convince Merlin that he can be trusted, and the contract can be broken while they secure peace between Camelot and Escetir. It's a good plan.

Right up until forces conspire against both their kingdoms, more secrets come to light, and Arthur starts coughing up flowers.
