I get that the bookshop fire was traumatic for Crowley because he thought he lost Aziraphale.
Tumblr media
I keep seeing people say they want Aziraphale to know what it would feel like to lose Crowley, but I'm pretty sure my eyes weren't the only ones open when this happened...
Right?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"And that was the last I was to see of Crowley for some time."
Aziraphale has lost Crowley. To Hell.
He could do nothing to stop what happened in Edinburgh, and I can't imagine that he didn't fear he'd lost Crowley for good here.
Aziraphale has experienced more heartbreak than some fans care to even acknowledge. He exists in constant fear of losing Crowley to Hell again. AGAIN.
We saw Aziraphale save Crowley from Hell in 1941 with the human magic trick he used on Furfur.
Aziraphale was the one sitting in the bathtub of holy water after the Notpocalypse, knowing this was the reason he'd been so scared to hand Crowley his own thermos of holy water in the first place.
He's lost Crowley to Hell before and he will do anything to prevent it from happening again.
That's the impact Edinburgh had on Aziraphale. This is the impact that losing Crowley had on Aziraphale.

Will Zoro leave Luffy after they achieve their dreams? Not likely
Saying Zoro's gonna voluntarily leave Luffy at the end of OP so he can "live his own life" (i.e. get married, open a dojo, hang out in bars) is so wild to me. That's like saying Luffy's gonna give up adventuring so he can sit around and gorge himself on meat
First of all, it ignores that Zoro genuinely enjoys traveling with Luffy. Luffy (who's always getting into trouble) gives Zoro the chance to be his best self. And Zoro (who very much wants to be his best self) will always seize that chance with both hands
Second, both characters are like...the poster children of wanting to have their cake and eat it too. If you're Luffy or Zoro, you rarely need to make either/or choices. That's what makes them unique. It's why they've both got conqueror's haki! Basically: If Zoro wants to drink until he blacks out? If he wants to nap all day? Hell, if he wants to get lost in a paper bag?? He is like a big cat. He will do what he wants, wherever he is. He doesn't need to leave Luffy to get those things LOL
Third, Luffy's made it clear the Pirate King needs no less than the Greatest Swordsman by his side. Why would that suddenly stop once they've both achieved their dreams? Is Luffy going to quit being Pirate King? Why would he? Luffy wants to be the most free in the world, so he can live the life he wants...with the people he wants to live it with
In other words, Luffy isn't letting Zoro go without a fight — not unless Luffy genuinely feels he's no longer the type of man Zoro would want to travel with. And wouldn't that be the worst ending for both of them?

the ask about marriage recently made me think of that thing i thought up when we were chatting about Separation: Machete reading up about how there were some same sex marriages in pagan Rome ages before and disregarding the church for once to have a little ceremony with Vasco out in the countryside. and i thought your tumblr readers would like to think on that
Oh yeah, I remember that! I actually think about it every now and then, but I've yet to do any meaningful research on the idea.
Machete is kind of an antiquity fanboy and it wouldn't be far fetched to say that his fascination and admiration for ancient Greece and Rome might've made it a tiny bit easier for him to accept his orientation. And even if he'd feel uneasy about acting behind his church's back and the ceremony would be purely symbolic, the need to have their union recognized and sealed in some type of way would be immense.

Your pro-hero boyfriend is surprised when he gets notice at his agency that he’s been nominated for the most charitable hero award at this years billboard.
He thinks it’s a little strange, given he’s aware of most of volunteer and donation work he’s responsible for. It’s only when he begins checking credit card statements that he finds out you’ve been using his account to donate thousands to nonprofits without his knowing.
He can’t really get mad (though technically the award belongs to you)

something something organelles something chloroplasts…. sulfates…
*nodding along* yes talk science to me damn
It was so hard to write that chapter of Even Though You're Kryptonian, and try to figure out what the audience would need to know (assuming that most of the audience didn't have biology fresh on their minds). I ended up summing it to "okay, the audience needs to know that blood is important, and that the trait is maternally passed" and also "the audience needs to know this comes down to quantum information, which can't be cloned". When Nia says "skip the science", that is because I took out full paragraph explanations that were originally written there when I went back to editing 🤣 Buuuut this is tumblr, so I'll summarize here!
Quantum cloning is actually impossible (and would break the universe if it were possible), which Lena notes. On the TV show, they say they need Kara's DNA, and then get really sad when it's destroyed... but Lena is a scientist, replicating DNA is super easy, she definitely would've done that before loading the device!! So in my fic, we're going with quantum signatures, because the sadness around needing to reset the device to fight the phantoms makes sense.
The stable marriage problem (also called the "stable matching problem") is an actual thing in algorithms, with applications in economics. It's not specific to marriage - you can use similar algorithms to optimize which schools students attend, for instance. And it's always solvable, given certain conditions, with one of those conditions being that the two groups are distinct (like colleges are group 1, students are group 2 - a college can't attend a college & a student can't attend a student). If you don't have distinct groups, it turns into the stable roommate problem, which is not guaranteed to be solvable.
So basically my headcanon is that Krypton would look at algorithms and say "We can't have gay marriage, that's not algorithmically efficient!" because Krypton is the type of screwed up society that thinks everything should be done by algorithm.
Chloroplasts are organelles in plants. (Organelles are just organs for cells - instead of hearts and livers and kidneys, cells have things like mitochondria and nuclei and endoplasmic reticula.) Mitochondria are the powerhouse of the cell? Well, so are chloroplasts (in plants!).
Lena at some point on the TV show tells the group that Reign's cells are more like plant cells, which Kara confirms as how kryptonians convert sunlight to energy (which is what a chloroplast does). But I say they're not quite chloroplasts because they have to use a different dye - kryptonians aren't green. Lutein is a yellow dye in plants (think fall leaves) that could probably be masked by the natural melanin in human skin. So that's what I made as the thing that causes kryptonians to give off a quantum signature - the conversion of sunlight to power.
Organelles really are passed from the mother (egg) to the child. Sperm doesn't have room for much besides DNA. (Though for reasons not yet explained, kryptonian biology is going to work a little differently than Lena expects.)
As for sulfates, that's just a category of salt, and they're plentiful in the ocean. I needed something that killed libido... unfortunately, most of the real stuff that would kill libido are things like alcohol or opioids, and I didn't want kryptonian kids running around stoned all the time. But salt can contribute to high blood pressure, which can lower libido - sooooo let's just pretend that kryptonians are particularly likely to experience this side effect, while not being killed by blood pressure. Their biology is different anyway!

if you, as an author, create a minor character who is important to one of your primary characters, and then kill them off so the main character will be sad, know this: i hate you. i am biting you. i hope you get a hangnail and that the grocery store is out of your preferred plant milk.

Just saw a video cross my Instagram feed of some woman who made an "in case I go missing" binder, and aside from it being absolutely unhealthy paranoid behaviour, it's also not gonna help you. She got a snip from the bottom of her hair like...... that's not gonna give you any DNA. You need hair with the follicle still attached, the rest of the strand might yield some mitochondrial DNA but only with a complicated expensive procedure that probably wouldn't be done for some nobody. Plus DNA degrades over time, if you get kidnapped or something twenty years from now, that binder won't help you even if your hair did have DNA 🙄

you know what i think would be funny?
if, in the bad timeline, robin was basically the tuxedo mask to chrom's sailor moon, but like, actively helpful but by accident. granted, i know nothing about sailor moon beyond that one meme, but she just shows up when the shepherds are in trouble.
the kicker is that she does not want to be there at all.
robin: "oh no, oh no no no, there are plegian soldiers nearby and they've started chasing me. i need to hide, and fast!"
chrom: "robin?? hey, robin! robin!" *waves arms so that everyone and their grandma realize where she is*
robin: "oh god, not you."
none of the shepherds realize that she's related to validar. they just think she's a rebel or something and accept her with open arms. but she keeps her distance because she knows she's grima's heart and chrom especially is in grave danger just being with her
she's never successful because someone is always like, "hey why don't you stay with us for the night" and then the entire group is crowding her like "stay with us!"
and chrom has to rescue her every time so at some point, he just asks her to take a walk with him so they can be faraway when she leaves and doesn't get crowded
but when she starts to leave, she feels bad about not saying bye to everyone.
it's basically the moment where she actively acknowledges that she cares for them and the moment chrom realizes he fell in love.

And I think about how sorry I feel for little baby Hyacinth because she will never know Edmund's laugh. Or the way he smelled, or what it is to be hugged in his arms.
very sad serious moment but what i'm getting from this is that anthony comes by his scent obsession honestly. runs in the family apparently.
