Hello! I recently finished Witch on the Holy Night, and it was the most fun I've ever had reading a visual novel. You seem to be a Nasuverse expert, so is it okay if I ask you some questions about it? 1: What was the red hooded figure that was haunting(?) Aoko in some scenes? 2: Was the trauma preventing Aoko from using the Fifth Magic the cat dying in the beginning? 3: I was wondering what exactly in the Nasuverse is in the same timeline(s) as Tsukihime? (Sorry for the one long paragraph)
The sad thing is, that as Mahoyo was originally planned to be a three part VN that never got its sequels, we don't have hard answers to many questions in Mahoyo yet and we may not ever get them.
The red hooded figure is narratively Death, in-universe I'm pretty sure is a Counter Guardian from the Counter Force. If you haven't read Fate/Stay Night or seen Kara No Kyoukai, the Counter Force is the metaphysical will of the mass consciousness of humanity. It works to "maintain" the human world, "correcting" errors through the use of force. Incredibly dangerous supernatural entities are often met with the Counter Force killing them through the use of its guardians, spirits that carry out its will with incredible power. Archer from Fate/Stay Night turns out to be a Counter Guardian, having made an arcane deal to grant him power in life in exchange for his afterlife to be lived as a killing agent of the Counter Force for eternity. For someone like Aoko, able to burn the fabric of time itself with the 5th Magic, the Counter Force would see her as a ticking time bomb that they need to deal with as soon as she turns dangerous to the safety of the world. Now I say the red hooded figure is narratively Death, because it doesn't necessarily appear only when Aoko is about to use her powers, but in every day life. There's a few scenes where she feels it watching her even as she just goes to school, and she sees it in the corner of her eye whenever she's alone, terrifying her every time even when she's not actually afraid of dying (to the point where she would rather have her throat ripped out by a werewolf than use the 5th Magic and risk the hooded figure coming to her.) Given that the first scene we ever get with Aoko was about her experiencing the horrifically violent death of a family of cats, how the hooded figure approaches her whenever she's near death, I'm pretty sure that the hooded figure is Death. It also makes her role as Shiki's mentor in Tsukihime appear much less coincidental. Someone like Aoko that sees the specter of death in her every day life just so happens to run into a 9 year old boy the same morning he awakens with the ability to see death in all things? No way it was an accident.
I think it was part of it. I think it was just fear of the hooded figure, since it approaches her whenever she feels pressured to use the 5th Magic. Although if we go with the idea that the hooded figure acts as the abstract concept of Death, then the death of the cats (the first time she sees something die) would factor in that trauma.
This is a question whose answer changes a bit over time and can get a little... messy. Nasu didn't actually split the Tsukihime and Fate timelines until much later when Fate was really taking off as its own thing, and the original Tsukihime and Tsukihime Remake also feature differences that also put them in different timelines. So first off, all the various Fate series obviously take place within the Fate timelines, except for Fate/Strange Fake which takes place in a merged Fate + Tsukihime timeline. Kara No Kyoukai also seems to take place in Fate timelines as the Ryougi family reappears in El Melloi Adventures while Shiki is a heroic spirit in both Fate/Extra and Fate/Grand Order, but Kara No Kyoukai's characters also form a part of Tsukihime and Mahoyo's background lore (Tsukihime's demon hunter families include the Ryougi, Asakami [Asagami], and Fujou families from Kara No Kyoukai, while Mahoyo also has Alice be a student of Reien Girls Academy, a school that appears in Kara No Kyoukai as a part of Misaki Town). Tsukihime, Melty Blood and sequels, and Kagetsu Tohya take place within Tsukihime, but could NOT be in the exact same timeline as Mahoyo (despite Aoko making references to Mahoyo in Melty Blood) because Mahoyo and the original Tsukihime both take place in Misaki Town, and the Tohno mansion and Kuonji mansion are both in the exact same location (as in, the Kuonji mansion is right where the Tohno mansion should be). The Tsukihime Remake moves the timeline up from 1992-2000 to 2006-2014, and moves its setting from Misaki Town to Souya Town, allowing it to exist in the same timeline as Mahoyo without contradicting anything. Melty Blood Type-lumina also exists within the Remake's setting.

Disney tries to make a sequel, everyone hates it already.
Dreamworks plans a sequel, Shrek 5, Kung Fu Panda 4, and wanting a Puss in Boots 3 and Bad Guys 2, everyone is hyped and dying of waiting!!!
And I fully understand why.
Sequals (Essay because there's a lot of sequels to talk about)
Disney was never the type to serialize their films. Heck, most of their films are stand-alone films because of the fairytales they're based on. You can't exactly make a series out of Cinderella, Snow-white, Beauty and the Beast, etc, without changing a few things from the original. Disney tried and let me just say that Cinderella 3 was most likely their only good sequel. And that's because they retold the story of Cinderella. Even redeeming one of the step sisters. As for the other sequels that Disney has planned or made, 50/50 for me. I'm not looking forward to Frozen 3. Frozen 2 was good until the third act. Elsa just pushed Anna away again, and instead of it being this bad thing, Elsa is rewarded for it. She gets to see her mother and gains an improved version of herself. While Anna struggles by herself. Yes, Elsa did "die," which could've worked as character development if Elsa realized that pushing Anna away was the cause of that death. But no, Anna unites the spirits again, and Elsa comes back to save the kingdom and all it good. There isn't really a punishment for Elsa pushing her loved ones away. Anna was the one with the best development because she had to grieve and push forward without Elsa. And she grew into a better version of herself that way, earning her crown as queen. I can see why people liked the ending, but to me, Elsa really should've reflected on what she did to Anna and Olaf at the end. It's just a little detail that made the film fall flat for me. Toy Story 5.......... what? The first three are masterpieces, really, they are. The 4th was definitely unnecessary, but I liked it as its own stand-alone film. Like a bonus film, a reboot to a possible new chapter for the franchise. But the way they ended it, they separated Woody and Buzz. Bonnie just straight up left Woody behind. I get it. There were hints that Jessie was gonna be her new favorite toy, but Woody should have some value. Yes, I know the film was about Woody accepting that he is no longer in the spot light and must pass down that title to someone else and his new chapter in life doesn't include his old friends. I get it. That happens in real life, too. But a 5th film? How are they exactly gonna do it with the way the 4th film ended. It doesn't seem very possible. Plus, it's not like the 4th film lived up to the first three, I still think they made Buzz a little out of character. And the old toys were underused. Like they could've evened out the roles a little more instead of letting Buzz take the spotlight. The same with Wreck it Ralph. I'm not going into detail about this. The sequel was pretty bad. I get it. Ralph is insecure and doesn't want to lose his only friend. But to put her in a life-threatening situation to get her to stay with you? I'm pretty sure you could've just said you were feeling lonely without her. That was too big of a drastic measure. I know that wasn't his intent, but the writers might want to have rethought about that. Ralph was just a bit too much of a jerk, and the product placement was kinda too much. Cars 2.......... it's a guilty pleasure of mine for a reason. 🤣 Incredibles 2, I thought it was good, but I can see why people have issues with it. The villain didn't make that much sense. The only sequel I am looking forward to is Zootopia 2, and that's because that story has a lot to offer. I'll explain later.
Dreamworks sequals, oh boy, where do I begin!!! Dreamworks serialized their films at the very beginning. Did you know there were at least six El Dorado films planned? If the first film didn't flop, we could've had a whole franchise of the treasure hunting trio. Or the fact that before Shrek was released, they were already working on a Shrek 2. Dreamworks make their films with a franchise in mind. They planned ahead. And each squeal they made only added more and more to their characters.
Shrek 2, Shrek has marriage problems because his in-laws are baiscally racist towards orgers. Shrek 4, he learns to love his life again. I will not mention Shrek the 3rd because that movie should disintegrate and never come back to reality. 😅 And I'm hyped for Shrek 5 because there is still more to write about. The film takes place in a fairytale land. There's hundreds of fairy tales out there that Shrek can make fun of. Hence, more films. The concept itself opens up new stories.
HTTYD. I haven't seen this one, but I know enough. I love the idea of Hiccup growing up and learning something new every film. Finding his mother, dealing with the loss of his father, dealing with being separated from his best friend at the end. Each film gave a new element to his story. A new gain and a new loss. I can't see the film going beyond three films, though. Unless it's gonna be about Hiccups kids, they kinda closed the book, and the concept isn't very open to anything. Unless a new threat comes and Hiccup has to learn to be the new village leader. Which he kinda already did. So I'm glad there isn't a HTTYD 4 planned.
Kung Fu Panda. This franchise has 6 films planned since the very beginning. SIX! And they always add a new element to Po's story. Earning the Dragon Warrior name, finding inner peace and dealing with his PTSD, becoming a teacher and chi master. And there's still more to Chinese culture that can be added to this franchise. The concept opens up the franchise to new ideas. The number of characters they have adds to the story. We got Shifus back story, we got Po's back story, we got Oogways back story, and the fandom is now expecting Tigress's back story soon. The concept and the characters are the reason why this franchise is loved and why we're dying for the 4th film!!!!
Madagascar. Fun fact, Madagascar 3 was, in fact, not the final film. 😅 Yeah, shocking. After the Penguins of Madagascar in 2014, Madagascar 4 was supposed to be released in 2018. So they did plan more films but got delayed with Kung Fu Panda 4 and Puss in Boots 2 because of the reconstruction of the studio. How many more films? I think the 4th one was supposed to create a reboot situation. I have no idea how the story is supposed to continue. I really don't, but at the same time, I do. The first three films had one story. The three wanted to go home to the zoo. Each film took place in a different setting, with each character learning something new about themselves. In the first film, they learned how to be in the wild, just like animals in Madagascar. Second film, they reconnect with their African roots. 3rd film, they realize what they really want is to see the world, so they move in with the circus. In Europe. That's why the sequels worked. Different settings = different discoveries = new story. Yes, their story about getting to the zoo is over, but we can't forget about the situation their in now. They're traveling the world now. The point of Stefanos and Gias character in the 3rd film was that the two were tired of staying in one place. They did the same acts to the point where they lost passion and meaning. They wanted something new and to improve the circus. And now that they have that, new stories can be told. In other words, the new concept opens up a door to a new story. They can travel the world and discover new things and new characters. New culture and even back stories to new characters. As far as I remember, Vitaly has a father like relationship with Gia and Stefano. Why? What's their past? Or we can get new pasts from new characters to come from different parts of the world. The concept of a circus traveling the world is what opens up the door to new stories.
Trolls, I know people don't like this film, and I agree it's for a much younger audience. Like 8 and under. But I can still appreciate the franchise for it's story telling. Poppy has to learn to be queen before becoming queen at the end of the film. She had to learn where happiness comes from and how having others you love in your life can improve on that happiness. Trolls 2, she had to learn about being a good queen. And I do love the metaphors they used in the 2nd film. Using different kinds of music a metaphor of tribes at war with each other. Poppy learned that it was her kingdom that caused the war in the first place. She had to learn that she can't push her own culture onto the other tribes because you can't just think your culture is superior. Like she wanted to make the country trolls happy with her own music simply because she believed the country trolls music was the wrong way. Which makes me love her interactions with Coopers family so much. Learning that her kingdom tried to erase the other tribes culture by replacing it with theirs. That her tribes scrapbooks are just cutouts and glue ons by the winners to rewrite history so they feel comfortable with it. And I love that the king and queen of funk explain it to her. That differences do matter, and no, we are not all the same deep inside. Our culture, our lives, and our experiences are different, and they make us who we are. Harmonizing with different cultures is what makes a good queen. And that's why the sequels work. Why I'm excited for my little sisters to see the franchise. There's so much you can do with a story about a queen trying to do good for her kingdom. And YES, I know Frozen is the same. Like I said, I did enjoy Frozen 2. It's just that the third act fell hard on its face. Like, why is ice the 5th element and not love? There are little details that really made it flop. I can understand Trolls being kiddy and cute because they are made for children and babies. I would much rather have my sisters watch Trolls than Coco Melon any time. I appreciate Frozen for what it is as well. Loved the films, wish it reached its potential and that's why I'm not looking forward to Frozen 3.
Are there any DreamWork films that would work as a franchise? Yes, Megamind can learn how to handle being the towns new hero. Bad Guys, this screams franchise!!! It's like Suicide Squad. Former criminals help to save the world!!! Puss in Boots. Puss, Kitty, and Perrito are three out laws going on adventures. How many new adventures can you write for them to go on? HUNDREDS!!! And this is why I'm excited for Zootopia 2!!! That story DOES have something to look forward to. The concept is great. A cop and a former criminal fighting crime together? HELL YEAH!!! That's why Toy Story worked, too!!! The life of a toy is creative. They watched their owner grow, and each stage of their owners life affected them. When a kid moves houses, they can lose toys on the way. What if a toy gets broken? What if the kid is no longer a kid? What do toys feel about being lost or replaced. The concept is incredible and leaves tons of opportunities to continue the story or create new ones. So I'm a 50/50 on Toy Story 5.
Conclusion
Disney doesn't plan ahead when they make a film. They clearly start to make it up as they go with no plan. DreamWorks does plan ahead. A lot of Disney's concepts don't work for sequals. I can not see a squeal to any of the Disney princesses. Bell? Ariel? Cinderella? Not really much to their story except they lived happily ever after. It's a closed book for good unless they take a Cinderella 3 route and rewrite their stories. Dreamworks do have concepts in their stories that open opportunities. And the #1 reason why we don't get excited about Disney squeals. Reputation. Disney has a horrible reputation when it comes to sequals. Dreamworks have a perfect record. As long as we burn Shrek the 3rd from our minds. Not talking down on Disney. I know they have the ability to create great classic stories. But only stand-alone stories. While DreamWorks has a gift in making franchises and taking risks in their stories.
Ps. SHREK 5 IS OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCED!!!!!

Ranking Stranger Things Characters from Who is Least to Most Likely Dying in Season 5
Number 1 will be the least likely and the last number will be the most likely. It could be possible that nobody will die in St5 but these are just my opinions on who will be likely to die or survive by the time the show ends.
1) Erica. It would be way to dark and cruel to kill a young child. I get that they had many kids get slaughtered in the lab (which was horrendous) but I feel if Erica died, it would be even more dark because we’ve grown to know her and love her. It just seems so cruel and ruthless to deny this poor child a chance at growing up. Also it would be horrible to kill off one of the only two black main stranger things characters. They would deservedly get backlash for it.
2 ) Robin. They’re not doing a ‘Bury Your Gays’ trope. They would deservedly get backlash for it if they did.
3) Will. The same reason as Robin and also because the first two seasons where about finding and keeping him safe. If he died, the all of that would be pointless. Additionally, this poor kid has been through so much, he definitely deserves a happy ending.
4) Hopper. They pulled the ‘Hopper is dead’ card once. They are not going to do it again. Also this poor man has been through so much, let him have his happy ending.
5)Lucas. Killing the only black character that has been around since season 1? Needlessly cruel. They would deservedly get backlash. It’s even worse that he is one of the most sidelined characters. Also killing him off while he is also grieving over Max is very cruel and dark.
6) Nancy. I can’t see them killing her off. I don’t think the writers will kill a main character who had so much screentime.
7) Joyce. She has been through way too much. Give her a happy ending. Not to mention that all the Byers and El and Hop would be devastated.
8) Dustin. Killing him off while he is grieving over Eddie is very cruel.
9) Argyle. I don’t see why they would. Also killing the only latino character is horrible, They will deservedly get backlash for it.
10)Mike. The same reason as Nancy. I do find it a bit weird that the writers mentioned they will not kill Mike next season because it would be too sad. It makes me suspicious that something will happen to him.
11)Johnathan. I can’t see it happening, especially as it would be way too painful for the Byers and El.
12)El. They already pulled the ‘El sacrificed herself to save her friends’ card once, they will not do it again. I am not 100% sure though, so that’s why I put her at the 12th spot. It is a popular theory because El dying was season 1’s original ending. I think it would be a horrible narrative choice because El going though so much abuse and trauma, only to end up dead sends a dark and hopeless message.
13) Max. The writers planned for her to die in season 4 but didn’t go through with it. That could either be a good thing or a bad thing. I think it would be cruel to kill her, given that she’s already suffered enough. Killing someone who has suffered from suicidal ideation also sends a rather hopeless and dark message.
14)Steve. I thought they were going to kill him in season 4 but they didn’t, so I feel like they won’t kill him off now. Killing off Eddie served almost the same narrative as killing off Steve would have, so it would be kind of redundant to do it but writers usually kill off the fan-favourite comic relief character who is a main but not the main main.
15)Karen. I thought that they might kill her off in season 4 because I had this theory that either Mike or Dustin will get a dark arc in season 5 and that would happen by killing off either Karen or Eddie. Since that didn’t happen in season 4, I don’t think that will happen in season 5 but I could also see it them killing her off in the middle of season 5 to add more bleakness and hopelessness to the season before the climax.
16)Murray. I could see them killing him off, though I would be sad if they did.
17)Enzo. I guess they could kill him off but I honestly don’t think he will even be in season 5.
18) Dr Owens. I’m surprised he’s not already dead from the explosion.
19) Henry Creel. I would be shocked if he didn’t die.

Cristal witches, aka Sasha making headcanons for the world of Eldarya
I have this idea since forever at this point, so I figured it wouldn't hurt a fly to talk about it a little. It comes from years before when I wanted my OC to not be human but some kind of magic creature, so here we go.
English is not my first languange, so I am apologizing in advance.
Note: Throughout the post, the timespan is after the Blue Sacrifice, but I will talk about that too later on.
Who are cristal witches?
Cristal witches are witches who hold power connected to maana.
The bigger maana surronds them, the bigger their powers get
The reason they are called cristal witches is because they can form a connection with the Crystal
They are creatures with big potencial to play big roles in Eldarya, but that is exactly the point where things go wrong
Tumblr media
More about witches
Most cristal witches are women, it's really rare when a male is born and inherits magical power, but there are cases when it happens
There were never any worry about them dying out, since the genes are VERY strong
When a male and female cristal witch have a child who is also one, they turn out way stronger then the others who only have one parent being one
Don't get me wrong, one parent makes the kid already strong as it is, but two parents are just a whole new level
Cristal witches all have tattoos, all in different colors. Most of the time the colors don't have anything to do with the powers they can hold, but lighter colors indicate lighter powers, meaning: lighter colors can't use magic that requires bigger maana usage, like black magic, or healing magic
(If you play the game, you sure know the voodoo outfit, I based the tattoos on those tattoos, so you can see the colors if you google it)
Since cristal witches are a heavily mixed community thanks to the overload of women, there are times where kids inherit both of their parents specific genetics
It's rare tho, because of the witch genes mixing up with other races' is not that common
But when it happens, it always gains attention
Cristal witches are not just cristal witches because they are connected to the Crystal, but because they literally have crystals all over their body
These crystals are mostly small ones and has the color of the tattoos
They are really human-like, so if they can hide their tattos and crystals they can perfectly blend in, which did come handy at some point
Their lifespan is about 150-200 years
They are able to open the portal to the human world
(here you can see the children of my OC [Chrystal] and Ezarel, who were lucky enough to inherit both of their parents genes, so they are witches with elf ears.)
Tumblr media
How did they live?
Back then cristal witches lived in small communities, mostly small villages, but there where some communities living a full nomad life
Since they live so long, there were not many of them to begin with
These smaller communities lived close to each other way back then, but the nomad communities started to move around after a while
These are highly spiritual communities, especially that they are fully able to communicate with the Oracle if they wish so
They had special type of education, where witches were learning to use basic magic, while non-witches who lived with them learned alchemy
They had strict rules, that everybody needed to follow, they weren't allowed to use their power randomly
They needed to get an approval to use magic that requires more manna than your basic magic, and also to use dangerous or risky magic
If somebody went against this rule more than 5 times, they got their magic taken away
They choose new leader every year, although if a leader was good, they sticked with them and kept on picking them
The leader was not leading alone, although they made the final decisions
There were many smaller position available next to the leader, which are also chosen by the other witches
Overally they are really pieceful, so the conflicts are not that common
Cristal witches are able to do many things with magic, but it takes a lifetime to gain a really controlled power, so older, well-educated witches are highly respected and the leader was chosen from them most of the times
Some really strong witches are even able to bring back people from the death, but only if they're right there when the death happens
The Blue Sacrifice
The reason that Cristal witches were never part of the council that planned out the Sacrifice was that the races forming the council agreed that Eldarya could need them in the future (and they were damned right)
Before the Sacrifice taken place, witches were not that strong than after it happend
I imagine it the way, that once the sacrifice was made, Eldarya alone had more maana than when the two worlds were one and since witches' powers are mostly maana based, it made their powers grow way stronger than before
(I hope this makes sense lol)
Where things went wrong
As I mentioned before, they are creatures with big potential
When the Blue Sacrifice went wrong, the races in Eldarya needed the witches help the most
Almost every community, town, villige, whatever had at least one witch living with them to help out whenever there were high need
The problem is, that there was always high need; as we know Eldarya was in trouble
With the help of the witches it was easier to go for supplies to the human world, although only those communities could do this who had stronger, more experienced witches
There were even witches who were able to cast spells and make the field able to grow some edible plants
And this is exactly where things went terribly wrong
Since cristal witches have a high value, there were many who hunted them or tortured them for their powers
Why? Well, I know all the above reasons would be enough, but there are more to it
Cristal witches' blood is able to make the lifespan of whoever drinks it longer
And not just that, but it can completely function as food, it stops hunger for longer periods of time (weeks, sometimes months, depending on power) and makes the immune system 100% healthy
It was also used for really expensive medication
You know what else is really valuable? The tears of witches.
It can fasten healing and was used for many medication as well as their blood
But only tears that hold heavy emotions count, since the tear drops turn into little crystals
These informations spread real fast after a while and witch hunts became so serious that at one point several communities started to think that it would be better to sacrifice them as well so maybe Eldarya could gain its full balance [the Guard of El also wanted this, just in case you were curious]
Witches would've 100% sacrificed themselfs if they got asked by the time the Blue Sacrfice happend
But after all the terror they went through, their trust was completely broken
They did not want to die for all these selfish folks wanting to murder them, not thinking about their race for a single second
So one day they completely vanished
Nobody knows how exactly, the common guess was that they opened the portal and moved to the human world, giving up on their magic
I mean everything was better than dying for your murderers
After the vanish
Of course, not all of the witches vanished, but the witch communities that lived together
Those who lived in certain places helping out stayed there
Back then the Guard of El had a witch with them too
Sadly, they got scared of her possibly gaining control over the guard, since she was very much loved... So they decided to kill her [yes, they wanted to sacrifice her, and then killed her, way to go]
The last known cristal witch was a male, living with the Fenghuangs, but he died just before The Origins' story starts
But... Are they really all gone?
Okaaaay soooo I bet there are stuff in this which doesn't exactly fit the story and/or I remember incorrectly, but it is what it is.
On the very first art you can see my OC named Chrystal. Well, she arrives to Eldarya the same way Erika did in the original story, the main difference is that she turnes out to be a cristal witch and this fact leaves the guard in a numb shock. Suddenly the only living cristal witch is with them and that is changing their situation entirely.
I am sure I will write down Chrystals story with illustratons and whatnot, but currently I am working on my Moonligh Lovers' OC's illus, so that will take some time.
Anyway, this will have another part, I wanna at least introduce Chrystal so you can see a cristal witch in action, hurray.
Ah, yeah, if there are facts from the game messed up, feel free to tell me, I am not biting. You can also use this idea for your ocs, I don't mind. Hugs<3

Dramatismo total, te adoroooo, si quieres cambiar algo queda a tu criterio, besos :3
Translations of original request: Super apologies for making the request in Spanish. So, there is a Kate Bush song that I adore "Running up that hill", it talks about a deal with a supreme being, since I read JJK's manga along with this song I can't help but imagine a scenario where the reader realizes that the family that I built with Suguru is dying for an ideal that not even they can properly digest and cannot do anything about it and sacrifices their body and soul for the man they love. AHH I don't know if it can be continued, but, I continue. Obviously, this is intended to give Geto a chance to be happy. And I also imagined that in a dream she said goodbye to him forever and gave him everything that he is as a symbol of her love. Total drama, I adore you, if you want to change something, it's up to you, kisses: 3
One Last Breath: Geto Suguru x Fem!Reader
wc: 1k
tw: so much angst.
masterlist
a/n: changed the time period and setting to make it even more dramatic, because that's just how I roll! Thanks for requesting, love.
You're kneeling at the prayer bench in the small sanctuary, stained glass windows casting colored light upon your face as you pray fervently, lips moving but no sound coming out.
The images of various gods dance upon the floors and create moving pictures of their creations, their love, their sacrifice. And you are stuck in the same boat as these beings, but only because the man you love put you there. "Please." You finish your prayer with that final word. "Please." The bench creaks sordidly as you stand, clutching the elbow rest tightly.
The children would be waking soon, and if you weren't home by then, you would be in trouble. Suguru couldn't be trusted alone with them anymore; it's now a matter of life or death with him. And you're fine with it being between the two of you, but when it came to the girls...
You scrub your thoughts with a shake of the head, feet quickly walking the space between the little chapel and your home. The chill of the mid-winter creeps into your bones, and you regret the lack of something to warm your shoulders, but before you can mourn the numbness in your tendons, you reach the door of your abode. When you push it open, three pairs of eyes meet yours, all huddled around the fire for warmth.
"Sorry," you whisper, shutting the door quickly. "I--"
"My love," Suguru rises from his perch, bringing his little notebook with him. "I've been thinking..." He begins his rambling about his solutions to the problem, his solutions to the continued issue of overwhelming cursed energy, his solution to make the world a safer place for you and your children.
The two girls sitting by the fire look up at you, fear in their eyes as he recounts every detail of his plan, praying you would stop their father from the self-sabotaging path he trod; stop their savior from sacrificing himself on the pyre of destruction.
"What do you think?" Geto pants, finishing his rambling. You notice the thin sheen of sweat building on his brow and your concern mounts.
"I..." The girls press their lips together in tandem, hoping you wouldn't say another word. "I think..."
Please.
"I think--" A gust of wind blows down the chimney, distracting Suguru from your thoughts and startling the children as embers dance across the cobblestones. He drops his notebook to attend to the flames, and you quickly snatch up the book, shoving it into your armpit, hiding it from view.
"I'll go get a few logs," you offer, and Suguru grunts, pushing the chairs a little further away from the fire as the girls sit in them, like the kind and protective father that he truly is. You weasel past the door and into the chilly air, walking towards the back of the house and toward the woodpile Suguru carefully maintained. You pick up two logs and then a third, dropping the notebook into the space made, and covering it up with another log on top of the pile. With the thing hidden, you heft the logs in your arms and walk back into the house, handing them to Suguru and watching as he places them into the fire one by one.
"I should start breakfast," he whispers, and you both work around each other, providing what you can for the little family you've made.
_____________________________________________________________
Your fingers tremble as you carry the book to the fire, the pages crinkling as soon as you place it in the flames. The book ignites with a burst of angry fire, snapping and melting as you watch, praying the destruction of this tome would render your family safe.
But you know in your heart it would never be enough.
That fact is solidified in your mind when the door bursts open, and one man strides into the room, his blue eyes snapping to your figure standing at the fireplace.
"Oh, god," you breathe, tears pricking at your eyes. "No."
"Where is he?" Gojo wonders, standing in the open doorway and letting the snow drift into your home. "I have orders--"
"Suguru!" you shout, hands extended as you charge at the man in the doorway. "Get the girls and go!" Footfalls echo behind you and you feel the presence of the second strongest man in all of Jujutsu sorcery stare at the scene before him.
You, with all of your waning cursed energy, can barely hold the man back. But for some reason, he lets you touch him as he stares at his long-lost friend with sadness.
"You have a family," Gojo breathes, and Geto grabs your arm, trying to shove you away from Satoru. "You have children. Why?"
"Why not?" Suguru answers, staring his friend down. "Why not want a better life for my loved ones?"
"You won't get it this way," Satoru chastises. Mimiko and Nanako shrink in the doorway of their rooms, and you realize your only option to buy them time is inside of you. You have one last wild card, one last way to save your family, but you hadn't considered using it until now.
"Suguru," you bite out. "You need to leave."
"He's only leaving with me," Gojo answers for him, blue eyes still focused on his old friend. "There's no way you escape this."
"Listen to me," you beg the raven-haired man. "You need to get the girls and go."
"What about you?"
"I'll catch up." You both know you won't, but as the stripe on your chest begins to bleed, you raise your hands into a fighting position. "Just run as far and as fast as you can."
_____________________________________________________________
The fight is over before it's really even started. You lay against the brick of the fireplace, blood draining from your mouth in a pool beneath your head.
"Did I... at least... buy them... some time?" you choke out, blood splattering on the sleeve of the man who is propping you up against the wall.
"Enough time," he mutters, swiping at your chin with a rag from the table. "Might have even saved them if Su gives this whole thing up." You exhale shakily, closing your eyes slowly then reopening them. The sapphire eyes are the last thing you see before you drift off into the Between, your final breath spent with one last prayer:
"Please."

Casey Valentine: About Her Present
A/N: Did the inspiration suddenly hit me after I had no idea what to do about this because I had never thought about it before? It did. Set somewhere between the end of Book 3 and right after it just because otherwise I wouldn't have had things to say about Casey's future. Part of the @openheartfanfics "Meet My MC" event.
Tumblr media
Meet My MC || About Her Past
Tumblr media
If Casey had to describe her three-year residency at Edenbrook, she'd say it's been intense, life-changing and unexpected. Time went by so fast and so many things happened in so little time, that quite often she still thinks all of this is just a dream.
Sometimes she still doesn't believe that she survived a betrayal, a trial, and an assasination attempt. She could even write a book about it, but keeping some of these stories to herself and the people around her seems wiser.
She passed her boards with flying colors and now she's ready to face a new challenge: becoming the new head of the Diagnostics Team. Ethan offered her the job after he was offered the Chief of Medicine position by Naveen, and even though at first she didn't know what to answer, she knew that Ethan would have never offered her the position if he considered her incapable of excelling at it.
And you can tell she already has a lot of plans for the team, even though none of them implies filling the spot that she'll leave. The work dynamic with Harper and Tobias is amazing, and they all think they don't need another member at the moment.
She's also glad that her salary will allow her to get rid of her med school debt sooner than she expected, even though she knows what she'll do with part of her first payment: she'll get Esme a ticket to visit her parents in El Salvador. This is something she's been thinking about since she knew her story. She knows how it feels growing up without parents, so if she can make a difference on the life of her intern, she will.
The only condition for her to accept her new position as head of the team was to be able to set some time apart to work in the free clinic. This is one of the most rewardings experiences for her and it reminds her why she decided to become a doctor in the first place, so she doesn't want to lose that.
Tumblr media
When Casey first arrived in Boston, it was all about the medicine. She wanted to learn from the best. Little did she know that the same guy she admired as a doctor would become the love of her life.
Everything began as a mentor and mentee relationship, but after a few months it became something else. And it's been that way for the last three years.
Their relationship has been... interesting, to say the least. They both had different reasons to fight their feelings for each other (Ethan's morals on one side, and Casey's previous heartbreaks on the other side), but apparently when two people are meant to be, things are just inevitable. And they seem to be inevitable.
After the longest time and many highs and lows, they made things official a few weeks ago. And they're over the moon about this. Casey doesn't remember being this happy before.
However, she wants to do things right this time. She has always felt her previous relationships failed because she made too many impulsive and bad decisions, and she really wants things to work this time... mostly because she has recently discovered admitted to herself that this is the first time that she is completely and utterly in love.
Yeah, she thought she had been in love before... but after meeting Ethan and understanding her feelings towards him, she just knew she had been so wrong in the past! She never felt like this about anyone before.
Do people talk about them? All the time. Does she care? Not at all. She felt uncomfortable about rumors at first, but Casey knows that people have been talking about them for the last three years, and she doesn't care anymore. She's just too busy trying to be happy to care about what people say about them.
However, to avoid any potential conflicts at work, they both have decided to keep their relationship as private as possible. And so far it's working.
Tumblr media
If Casey learned something about friendship during her residency, is that you never know when someone may betray you. Luckily, she has few friends, but they're the best.
Luckily, they all happen to be brilliant in their areas of expertise, so they all are geting great job offers to stay in Boston. And none of them is planning to leave.
This is awesome for several reasons, but mainly because they don't need to find a new place to live or a new roomie, which is a relief for everyone, and because they won't need to schedule annual reunions to catch up on their lives... they can keep having their daily or weekly ones.
She is also lucky to keep working with people she admires a lot: Tobias and Harper. She still can't consider them her friends, but they're certainly on their way to become more than colleagues.
Outside Edenbrook, Casey also keeps in touch with her med school besties: Tracy and Lauren. They both are doing their residencies at Mayo Clinic, so the chances they visit each other any time soon are very low. However, Facetime helps them to keep in touch at least once a week... and Tracy is getting married very soon in New York, so Casey is counting the days to see her girls after all this time (maybe she should tell them that now she might be taking a plus one with her?).
Tumblr media
Even though the original plan was that Oliver would be going to Boston with Casey, things changed after grandma Marie passed away and Oliver decided to stay back home.
The twins had never been apart, so this has been a whole new experience for them. Not only it has helped them to become their own person, but now their relationship is stronger than ever.
They keep in touch on a daily basis. They don't talk on the phone often, but they are constantly messaging each other during the day.
Oliver also visits her every two or three months. And Casey's heart feels so full of love when his brother has the chance to share with her extended family, just because they all get along really well. In fact, they've already set a tradition: every time that Oliver is in town, they make plans to spend a day at Martha's Vineyard.
Casey goes back to Virginia every summer; however, the end of her her residency might mean that this is the last time in a while that she'll be able to spend more than two weeks at home. But that's okay... as long as she has a few days to recharge her energy by being in touch with nature and with her roots, she'll survive.
Of course, she's dying to take her friends there. Ethan has already visited and he won't admit it yet, but he's become a fan of that place. He completely gets why Casey loves it so much.
The idea of returning home after the end of her residency was tempting, Casey actually considered it at some point, but she'd be lying to herself if she says her heart is not in Boston.
Tumblr media
Going from Virginia to Massachussets was a 180 degree change in Casey's life. She traded the mountains, the lakes and the river for skyscrapers, Seaport and Boston Common. Of course, this also meant making some life adjustments and discovering new hobbies.
She finally managed to balance work and life (something that had been impossible at med school). And even though Donahue's is the place to go after the long shifts, brunch on weekends with the gang are definitely her favorites.
Bryce, Rafael, and Ethan introduced her to the gym life at Edenbrook. At first, she only trained with the guys, but now she goes a lot by herself too, especially when she feels too stressed or when she needs to disconnect from the world. However, when it comes to release anger, boxing with Jackie is most definitely the option at the top of her list.
Sienna has taught her the art of vision boards to achieve her goals, but she's far from mastering it. in fact, any person who sees her vision boards would think they were made by a 5 year old kid. At least she tries (and she may even have reached a goal or two).
She also volunteers with Rafael once a week at his community center, even though she still can't learn how to dance samba. Sometimes, they also recruit interns, residents and attendings to perform some routine health checks to whoever wants them. These events are a hit... handsy Henrietta can't deal with so many hot doctors at the same time!
Tumblr media
Life has taught her a lot since she arrived in Boston. Third-year resident Casey is a completely different person than the girl who assisted a thoracotomy on her first day at Edenbrook.
Luckily she hasn't stopped being her best self; however, after the incident, she felt that life was giving her a second chance. And she's been making the most of it since then.
She has everything to be happy: a dream job, the best brother in the world, a group of friends that became her extended family, and a "new" boyfriend who has been with her through thick and thin during the last three years.
She still deals with some PTSD, but a good therapy and understanding that this is perfectly normal while trying to learn to deal with it helps a lot.
Now she's ready to make a real difference in health care, the one that she dreamed about making in her intern year.

Soy Sol: Chapter 5 (Lighting Up in a Rainy Town)

Luna and Matteo stunned by the announcement stare at each other with worry and unease. “What do you mean the Jam and Roller is shutting down?!” Luna blurted out right before Simón and Ámbar came rushing in. “Ok I think this is all a misunderstanding everybody. You see the Jam and Roller isn’t shutting down, here’s just a…. guy who does finances and is just checking up on the place. I think what he meant to say was that the Jam and Roller will shut down if nothing is kept in order with the payments, which it obviously has been cause I have my binder with all the receipts in them. So, no need to panic alright; everything is ok,” Ámbar announced to the gang pulling the man with the suit, who now has a confused expression on his face.
A wave of uncertainty is felt in the room. “Luna I’m worried this doesn’t add up right. The guy never mentioned any of those reasons. He said he came to do the final paperwork cause the Jam and Roller is closing,” Nina whispered to Luna. “You’re right Nina, this doesn’t add up. I think it’s time for Watson and Holmes to get on the case.” Luna and Nina each give each other a smirk cause the dynamic duo is back into investigating on a new mystery.
Matteo grabs Luna’s hand, takes her away from Nina, and pulls her out the door. “Where are you taking me, Chico Fresa?” Luna asked curiously. “Remember I told you I had a surprise. Well, it’s in the car.” Matteo and Luna walk to his car and stop at the Black Lamborghini in the parking lot. He opens the trunk and reveals a pair of shiny new skates. The pair is glittery pink and are laid on top of their box. Luna gasped at the thoughtful present Matteo displayed to her. “Matteo I... I…. I LOVE IT,” Luna exclaimed before running up to Matteo and giving him a bear hug. “And that’s not even the best part. The wheels light up. I purposely got this cause your Luna and Sol. Eres la luna y brillas como el sol. You’re Luna (Moon) and you shine like the sun. So, whenever you roller skate, the glitter will shimmer while the wheels light up just like you. Te quiero Chica delivery. I love you,” Matteo professed to Luna. Luna was in awe of Matteo’s gift and how he still remembers the exact same words he told her right before he kissed her at the Sky Concert. As tears were slowly falling on her cheek, she gave another hug to Matteo right before he kissed her.
Tumblr media
Ámbar flips through the multitude of pages in her binder as the guy in a suit looks at her with a stern look in his face. “Sorry sir but are you sure we can’t wait any longer. Maybe we can still negotiate a deal with Vidia.” The guy immediately shakes his head and states, “I’m sorry but that’s not possible. Vidia doesn’t want to be a part of the Jam and Roller anymore, they have other ideas in mind for the future and those ideas do not include this place.” Simón holds Ámbar’s hand when he notices her teary eyed as she puts her other hand over her face in disbelief. “Look I’m sorry Ms. Smith but the deal is done. The Jam and Roller is now in the market to be purchased,” the guy responds to Ámbar. She swiftly looks up. “Mr. Tobias, What do you mean the Jam and Roller is up for sale? I thought Mr. Trabeck was going to buy it to turn it into a club and bar. Also, you can call me Mrs. Álvarez from now on.” Simón and Ámbar glance and give a smile to each other.
Mr. Tobias thinks for a second and replies, “Mr. Trabeck pulled out his offer and decided not to purchase this place so it’s currently up for sale.” Ámbar and Simón immediately look at each other with hope in their eyes. Yeah, the Jam and Roller is being sold but maybe, just maybe, the owner can preserve its originality and keep it the way it is.
Luna dashes inside with her new roller skates in hand. Nina notices and approaches her. “Luna are those new skates? They look beautiful!” Nina compliments. “Thank you, Nina. Matteo bought them for me! I’m so happy right now. He got me specific ones just for me and the words that he told me inside reassured my trust for him. I love him and he loves me. Ooh I can’t wait to try them on. I’m planning to head to the rink right now and skate in them so I can easily break them in and get well acclimated,” Luna stated to Nina with exhilaration in her voice. “Alright than I’ll leave you to it. See you later Luna. It’s getting late and I want to go home quickly so I can read the book that’s been waiting for me!” Nina gives Luna a hug and heads towards the exit as Luna runs to the rink with her new pair of roller skates in hand.
“Jim, I think we should go back to school so we can finish packing up our things to bring them back to our apartment,” Yam said to Jim. “Really…. Can we please stay a little while cause I’ve been dying to skate.” Yam shook her head in response to Jim and replied, “We shouldn’t, the quicker we get it done the quicker we can come back to roller skate tomorrow.” Jim nodded in agreement. “I can drive you guys back since I’m also going to head out,” Ramiro stated. The three amigos (friends) headed out the door.
As Matteo closes the trunk of his car, he notices at the corner of his eye Gastón walking towards him. “Hola Matteo. Wow nice car, didn’t know my buddy was already going to spend some of the cash he earned from his big sold-out tour.” Matteo laughed at Gastón’s compliment. “Originally I wasn’t planning on it, but I decided to treat myself after seeing how huge of a success the tour became to be,” Matteo boasted with excitement on his face. “Makes since, you totally deserve it.” Gastón than showed a worried look on his face. “Que te pasa? What’s the matter,” Matteo asked. “The thing is Nina got a call from Eric today. She’s planning to meet up with him tomorrow morning. She said they’re only friends, but I know Eric. He’s probably still heartbroken that Nina broke up with him. What if he tries to get her back? What if he's still not over her and tries to steal her away from me? This is not good! I should’ve told Nina that was a bad idea for her to agree to have a meeting with Eric,” Gastón pondered right before freaking out.
Matteo looked at his distraught friend. “Don’t worry too much about it. Remember Nina broke up with Eric because she didn’t have feelings for him in the first place. She’s always been in love with you. If your still super worried about her than… maybe… spy on them. See how the date goes,” Matteo suggests. “Spy on them? Heck no I’m not going to do that. What if she catches me,” Gastón immediately rejecting the idea. “If you do it right, she won’t find out. I once spied on Luna when she did that music video for Sebastian Villalobos and she never caught me. Trust me bro you’ll be fine.” Matteo’s advice calmed Gastón down as he contemplated on whether or not he should spy on Nina.
The phone in Matteo’s pocket starts ringing. Matteo picks it up. “Yes hello…. Oh hi Viviana…. Yeah I’m a little busy does it have to be right now…. Alright fine I’m on my way.” Matteo hangs up the phone and says goodbye to Gastón. “It seems like I have to go. Viviana apparently needs help with this song. I can’t reveal much other than the fact that she wants to release a collaboration soon. Rafael thinks it’s a great idea, so I have to help her,” Matteo revealed to Gaston. “Like I said before, I think Viviana is bad news and you should try to stay away from her as much as possible. I understand that your manager keeps pushing for you too to hang out more frequently but don’t trust her,” Gaston advised Matteo. “It’s ok. She means no harm and I only see her as a friend. Plus, now that my tour is over, I can finally hang out more with Luna.” Nina comes running to Gaston. “I’m ready mi amor.” Gastón and Nina say goodbye to Matteo as they all head to their cars and leave the parking lot.
Simón enters the rink and sees Luna skating with light up, shimmery roller skates. “Hola Luna! Love the skates. They finally glow just like you,” Simón cheered to Luna. She skates towards Simón and gives him a hug. “Oh, Simón I am just so in love with these skates! I won’t lie I still prefer my other ones, the pink and orange ones since I have so many memories with those, but I don’t know these new ones give me hope. Maybe someday the Roller team can get back together. I know we’re all very busy but who knows! It is the summer, and anything can happen,” Luna bubbled to Simón. Simón scratches his head and swallows hard. He feels bad keeping a very important secret from Luna but doesn’t want to break her heart. He knows how much the place means to her and doesn’t want to bring her down. “You never know Luna. Maybe Juliana comes back, or maybe when we have time, we can enter a competition,” Simòn swallows hard. “Oooh that would be incredible Simón. Truly a dream come true, but I guess I have to wait to see everyone’s decision, but I will propose it to them. Hopefully they say yes,” Luna gushed. “You never know.”
Pedro comes walking in with Delfi. “Simón, it’s getting late and me and Delfi are really tired. We just came back to say goodnight and don’t forget to lock up,” Pedro reminded Simón. “Yes of course Pedro. Buenas noches! Goodnight,” Simón replied. Everybody told each other goodnight and left the rink. Simón heads over to Ámbar in the cafeteria while Luna heads to the lockers to grab her stuff.
Simón sits down over to where Ámbar’s table is at and talk about the Jam and Roller. “Mi amor I don’t know whether to feel hopeful or worried that the Jam and Roller is for sale on the market. What if someone buys it to only remodel the place and get rid of the rink? Keeping this secret is just too much for me knowing how much this place means to all of our friends.” Ámbar holds Simón’s hand after admitting what’s been worrying her. “I know exactly how you feel but hopefully someone does buy it to keep it the way it is and don’t shut this place down. We just need to keep having hope and faith alright.” Simón caresses Ámbar’s face and hugs her as she lays her head on his shoulders. Little did they know Nina had entered and overheard their conversation.
Nina secretly sprints to the lockers to get her journal and sees Luna there. “Luna you would not believe what I just heard. So Simón and Ámbar were talking and apparently the Jam and Roller is up for sale and they may shut it down!” A terrified look is plastered on Luna’s face hearing Nina’s big news.

So I was watching 3x16 Of Two Minds
Also, Lena is kind of ... awful and creepy as fuck in this episode (3x16)?
It doesn’t start great with Lena informing Sam that she’s going to electroshock her.
Tumblr media
Lena:  In order to find it, I need to study you while you're her. Sam:  And the only definite way to turn me into her is to electrocute me. Lena:  The pain response brings her out. Sam:  How much is it going to hurt? Lena:  We're going to start with 500 volts. Sam:  That's not what I asked. Lena:  A lot. If we had more time, we could find another way. But we don't. So we have to do it. (How do you know? Why are the only one working on this?)
Next we have Lena pushing to increase the voltage.
Lena: It's a parallel dimension. It's where you go when Reign takes over. [...] Sam:  Did you find what triggers the transformation? Lena: Not yet.I need to increase the voltage.I need more time to observe Reign.
And then we have Sam not wanting to go back and Lena pushing her.  Sam:  I can't go back in there. We have to find another way. Lena:  There's no other way. I know how hard this is... (again: how do you know? Not to mention, THIS ISN’T TRUE. They just demonstrated in the previous episode that emotional pain and taunting works just as well. Not that Sam would prefer that, I think she would choose electroshocks, but again, it’s clearly not the only way. Especially since with the DEO we find out tons of other things, Brainy and his future tech allow people to enter the valley, the Harun-El, the knowledge Kara has on the book of Ra, the psychics they have, maybe they could trigger Sam’s pain psychically) Sam:  No! No, you don't.
Anyway, next there is this scene where James who is like super scared about Winn dying calls her and begs her to help with the cure and Lena says actually she’s totally working on it. Except ... that’s kind of a lie? She has been working only on Sam and there is no scene that implies she even knew about the plague outbreak?
I mean we go from this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Winn pouring his heart out about all the plans he had for the future and James crying.
To not just Lena not giving a shit, but LYING about it?
Tumblr media
James: Winn and Alex are sick. Lena: I'm so sorry. James: Lena. You have the largest pharmaceutical company in the country and I really need you to put your people on this. Lena: I'm already working on it.(No she isn’t? There is nothing in this episode to suggests she even knows about the sickness or that Sam might have any connection to it?) James: You are? Lena: Yeah.(again, no she isn’t?) James: Well, that's great news, right? Have you told Supergirl? Lena: Listen, I can't really say anything and please don't say anything to her. I don't want to over-promise, but...I'm really close to a breakthrough. (manipulating James into not telling Supergirl)
And there is this scene where Sam pleads with her to stop and instead call Supergirl and Alex for help and Lena refuses.
Tumblr media
Lena: If I go to Supergirl or the government before I can prove I can turn her off, they will treat you like you're the same, all right? They will lock you up, they will dissect you...
Tumblr media
Sam: It wouldn't be any worse than this, Lena. We need to get help.
Can we talk about this? Like, what reason does Lena have to assume that the government would dissect Sam? I’m pretty sure I didn’t miss an episode where Lena ran into an alien who complained to her that the DEO tried to dissect them and that really rattled Lena to hear that? What exactly is Lena basing this on except her own paranoia that she is projecting onto Sam?
This is BEFORE the falling out that Lena has with Supergirl. Why does she just assume that Supergirl can’t be reasoned with? Couldn’t she like invite Supergirl to a meeting place and negotiate with her? Maybe tell her, I have access to this Reign person, but I’m not turning her over to you or tell her where she is until you assure me that she won’t be harmed? For a person who throws a fit every time somebody thinks badly of her, Lena sure doesn’t have a problem assuming the worst of other people and not like bothering to check her hypothesis.
(not to mention, Sam is already wearing the little Kryptonite badge thing, so Lena knows that whatever Sam has might be related to Kryptonians, so shouldn’t her first call have been to Supergirl? If only to try to get information on Kryptonian stuff out of her?)
And then there is this:
Tumblr media
Lena: Shh. Okay. I swear I'm the only one who knows how to do this.
Ehm, hubris/paranoia much? All this episode is basically Sam pleading for a second opinion and Lena denying her that? (Doesn’t help that the way Odette plays it is just freaking heartbreaking) And not only does Lena not give a shit about the fact that Alex and Winn are sick, she also just casually lies about it? If she didn’t want to get distracted from helping Sam, she could just not have picked up James call? Or after he called her she could have spared a single minute to delegate working on the plague to some other L-Corp people? Or she could just have been honest to him and said “I’m sorry, I’m working on something else that is more important to me” at the risk of incurring his anger?
It doesn’t help that the show plays this sweeping, borderline romantic music during the scene with Sam. And I’m here sitting thinking: Am I supposed to find this touching? Because that just makes the scene more creepy! I don’t care how much lip and voice quivering Katie McGrath puts in, it doesn’t change that what Lena is doing and saying is kind of really awful.
As I rewatch 3B, I’m struck with just how hateworthy I find Lena in it (including: the previous episode which also has tons of Sam pleading with Lena to let her out and Lena denying her, how blasé and hypocritical Lena is hearing about Supergirl’s kryptonite hangup, how she reacts to Reign’s taunts about not being able to kill Reign, keeping the Harun-El even though she heard Alura talking about how she doesn’t want it on earth). I don’t remember hating Lena originally when the season aired. I think a lot of this is kind of hindsight. When it aired, I just kind of assumed that Lena would eventually find out about Supergirl and be cool about it relatively quickly and feel dumb about it, so adding some more facettes to her characters was cool with me. Instead Lena kept on going worse and worse.
The other factor is that I think Lena’s singleminded dedication to Sam and going to bat for her friend is supposed to kind of the touching balancing factor to her jerky behavior. The problem is that with hindsight we know that Sam ends up getting almost completely forgotten by the show and by Lena. Like, whenever characters (or fans) run around and insist “EVERYBODY has betrayed Lena and screwed her over”, I’m sitting here and going “Sam didn’t”. Sam didn’t know what was going on with her and after things got revealed, she was extremely upfront about everything. And yet Lena acts like she didn’t exist or didn’t matter. Kind of ruins the emotional impact of scenes like “you are Sam Arias, okay? You're the woman. I would trust with anything.”

Two things I've been curious for an outside opinion on-- 1. do you think Robin's gonna come out to anyone in s4? obviously there's more to her than being a lesbian, but since it's pretty much confirmed that she's working with Nancy to investigate Pennhursts (the mental institution), I wouldn't be surprised if it came up. 2. Do you think El's gonna make it through the rest of the show without dying? I've had a bad feeling since the season one finale, personally. love your blog btw!
Sorry it’s taken me so long to answer. The school year makes it hard for me to find the time to put any real effort into these, and I refuse to do a half-assed job of it. Thank you for reading my thoughts. It really means a lot to me that people take the time to read my boring walls of text.
First, yeah, I would expect Robin to come out to more characters. It’d be weird if she didn’t, and it would make for some very awkward moments. It’s true that this would fit the setting of a conservative 80s town, but a secret like that can only be kept for so long when you’re close to people. If she really does spend a lot of time with Nancy, I expect it to come out one way or another. Nancy may think they’re dating, leading to her giving Robin “advice” on how to handle a relationship with Steve. There’s only so much bobbing and weaving someone can do while closeted before suspicions start to grow. This could be a good opportunity for the show to address personal agency in the coming out process, and how easily that can be taken away from someone.
One possible explanation that some may overlook is Steve. As much as we love our magnificently maned man, he’s not the brightest guy in the world. I can see him accidentally letting something slip that outs her. Someone might suggest that he, or some other guy, is perfect for Robin, leading to him making an off-hand comment that she’s not into guys. He’d say it without any malice or judgment, but then the secret would be out nonetheless. Him accidentally outing Robin could be a source of conflict that fractures and weakens the bonds of the party, setting up opportunity for the villains of the season to make a move.
There’s also always the possibility that Mike finds out. He’d need a good gay role model if he’s to come to terms with his feelings for Will. I’m not sure how he’d find out, but it could possibly be one of the above. The most direct way for this to happen is for Mike to be told Robin’s gay as a result of him revealing his feelings, but that’s not very realistic. Mike wouldn’t really have anyone he’d feel comfortable talking to about that unless he REALLY learns to trust someone. If Nancy did learn about Robin, and she was accepting of it, then it could be a plot device to allow her to give her brother the unconditional love that he’ll need. They’ve teased their brother/sister relationship since season 1, but they’ve yet to move past their antagonistic dynamic. Perhaps something like this would let them finally bond.
As for your second question, I don’t think El will die. At least, she won’t die in the traditional sense. I suppose that really comes down to whether one believes the DID theory, and that El is an alter of Will. In that case, she may reintegrate, which isn’t dying. I’m not 100% on that theory, but, I have to admit, it is very compelling, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it turned out true.
The first season ended the way it did because the original plan didn’t account for a guaranteed multi-season run. They had a rough idea for a second season taking place ten or so years later. When the show became a smash hit, they decided to adjust their plans for multiple seasons. El was also a breakout character, so they worked her back into the story. They’ve since worked to build her a backstory, while also having her suffer tragedy. Giving her a sad ending would just be cruel and unnecessary. The same goes for Will. They’ve been paralleled with each other since the beginning, particularly through their suffering. They deserve happiness.

have u done an analysis on endgame st ships? a penny for ur thoughts
i have not!! i would like two pennies please. my thoughts are not actually worth that much but i think i deserve them anyway. i’m gonna talk about some stuff that may seem unrelated or only loosely related to the question but i prommy it’s relevant <3 warning this ended up being like a thousand words somehow idk how that happened but i’m putting it under a cut bc i’m nice like that.
so! something that’s kinda unique/interesting to me about stranger things is how all of their ships are so clearly telegraphed and quickly developed. there’s a sense of... impatience, for lack of a better word. on the surface, it appears to be largely an effect of the cinematic style of the show; there’s very little room for questioning who someone’s gonna end up with or for slowly developing a relationship over time when you only get eight episodes every like. twoish years. AND you have about a dozen main characters AND evil government forces AND monsters from another dimension. it’s a lot to juggle!
stranger things has a lot to accomplish in a pretty short amount of time. the timeline of a single season usually spans no more than a week (excluding flashbacks/end-of-season timeskips), and well... nobody wants the important stuff to happen offscreen! i’ll use the stoncy love triangle as an example: jancy was originally intended to get together at the end of s1 after steve’s death, but since they decided to let steve redeem himself and survive, there was just no time to separate stancy and get jancy together without it seeming wayyy too abrupt. since jancy was always their plan, they didn’t want to leave nancy with steve, but they knew they couldn’t just have that boyfriend swap occur offscreen... which is why s2 Had to have a stancy breakup plot in order for the writers to accomplish their goal of getting jancy together.
the main characters in stranger things tend to maintain homeostasis between seasons, their circumstances and relationships rarely changing any more than the audience might have just assumed they would anyway (like lucas and max dancing together + sharing a kiss at the end of s2 and officially dating by the start of s3). steve and nancy are dating at the end of s1, so they must still be dating at the start of s2, and thus we must break them up DURING s2. joyce and hopper are friends with some deeply buried feelings in s2, so they’re friends with Less Buried feelings that must become apparent during s3. excluding the stancy situation (for reasons which i think are obvious but i will talk more about later), momentum is always forwards. mileven, lumax, and jancy argue, but they come back together, presumably more mature and stronger than before.
all of this is to say that stranger things has thus far been rather dedicated to their starting ships. there isn’t much misdirection; mike’s crush on el is obvious from the start, nancy and jonathan share charged moments even while she is with steve in the beginning, lucas shows interest in max immediately and shares more significant interactions with her than the other boys from early on in s2, and the deep loyalty and care between joyce and hop is always apparent. steve and robin (initially intended to be together romantically) hold hands quite early in s3 and dustin asks steve about whether he likes her.
the point? stranger things doesn’t dick around when it comes to love! they handle their ships with remarkable efficiency. in each season, it tends to be pretty obvious from the start who’s going to end up with who, and heading into the show’s fourth season, almost everybody is paired off: mike and el, max and lucas, joyce and hop, nancy and jonathan. which leaves us asking... are all of them going to last until the end?
we’ve only had one true breakup on the show so far, and as i’ve said before, the stancy breakup is an anomaly as it was essentially “righting a wrong,” allowing jonathan and nancy to get together as they were intended to do from the start. the only other romantic relationship to end on the show was between joyce and bob, and well... we all know why that ended, and it started/ended within the confines of a single season.
stranger things tends to treat each season as an extended film, right? they draw inspiration from classic 80′s films, and each subsequent season after s1 is treated as a sequel (they are Literally referred to as stranger things 2 and stranger things 3). when they introduce tension in a season, they’re inclined to resolve that tension by the season’s end so that people leave satisfied, while also providing a plot hook for the next “sequel” for audiences to theorize about. this hook is always part of the grander plot, not a will-they-won’t-they tease or something else of the sort. remember, they could have broken up steve and nancy in s2 and waited to get jancy together in s3, but they didn’t! they wanted to go ahead and resolve the tension!
while there are narrative and practical incentives that i’ve covered for this impatience/efficiency/[insert better word i can’t think of here], i also think it kinda reveals something about the writers of the show. to some degree, they genuinely care about and want their ships to be together! we’ve watched them introduce new characters just to kill them off a couple of times now, and i think it’s fair to say that the writers might be a bit too attached to the mains to consider killing any of them off (at least prior to the series finale). maybe... this reluctance to kill their darlings extends to ships.
romance isn’t the primary draw of the show, but an indulgence, something that there may not always be time for but that the writers continue to prioritize as much as they can because they enjoy it, or feel that it is important to the overall product. if we accept this idea, that the inclusion of and focus on so many romantic relationships in stranger things is (to some degree) indicative of the writers’ own desires, then it might inform our speculation regarding endgame ships.
i’m not here to like... really actually assert that i know what’ll be endgame, because i don’t really know jack shit. however, i do think that the writers are pretty invested in all of the current canon st ships (and yes, i am including jopper in that, as their romantic development was explicit in s3). i also think that the writers like catering to fans, leaning into popular jokes (steve “the hair” harrington) and devoting more and more time to the ships fans obsess over (particularly mileven).
with this all in mind... i really think that most if not all of the current canon ships will be endgame.
i think that barring any extreme circumstances (i.e. a character Actually dying instead of just fake dying) jopper will be endgame. they’re the only ones that the writers have had the restraint to actually do a slow burn with, and i really can’t see them devoting so much to developing their dynamic just to say it was all for nothing in the end.
i’m less confident on the others. there are some signs in canon that the remaining couples have some serious problems and may not last, but these issues are often dismissed, played for comedy or brushed over within the text itself, and many of the details within the text contradicting this dismissal are often so small that it’s unclear whether they’re intentional or not. while breaking up mileven might make perfect sense for a fan who reads into subtext and pays attention to unusual acting choices and subtle parallels, it would be a pretty risky move on the surface level. allowing these ships to remain canon for awhile and garner large fanbases only to break them up later would require both a willingness to actively contradict the desires of their audience as well as a certain degree of restraint in their romantic storytelling, which runs counter to the impression i personally have of the st writers (this is, of course, my own personal opinion).
there’s a good chance that at least one of the current canon ships will break up by the end, if only because i think that it would be a little boring if every relationship stayed the same for almost the entirety of the show’s run, and the stranger writers like to keep things new and exciting. perhaps long distance will kill jancy or mileven, or lucas and max will go off again and never come back on, but either way i wouldn’t be surprised if we got a breakup in s4. even with that, though, i think it’s somewhat likely that a current couple may break up in s4 and get back together for the series finale, just for the sake of a little suspense. overall, though, i feel like our current canon ships are going to be more or less the same at the end of the show.
that’s about it. i suppose i didn’t really... answer the question you asked skdndsdkjc i feel like you probably just wanted to know like if i’m a byler endgame truther (which i am not but i could happily be proven wrong). thank you for asking, though! i hope this made at least a little bit of sense.

Oooh the Krypto-Bat + twins au sounds really interesting! I would love to see more of that if possible!
Krypto-Bat + Twins AU (For the Krypto-Mari AUs) [ Posted on Ao3 ]
Twins AU with Marinette and Clark, Aka, Kia Jor-El and Kal-El
They were sent from Krypton at the same time in separate pods/ships, and when they land on earth, the pods are separated enough to land in two different places
Kal-El is, as originally, ends up in Smallville, adopted by the Kents as Clark
Kia ends up in Gotham
Bruce is already an adult here, and already Batman, including having taken in Dick and potentially Jason as well
Batman is the one to find Kia, mostly because, ever-vigilant, he knows about when something is about to crash into the territory he protects and is determined to be the first to arrive before anyone else.
He takes her in because for one, ‘what the heck, a tiny child with super-strength is in my backyard’ and felt he lucked out with her not ending up in the hands of a villain instead. For two, he’s really curious about what she and her little partially-destroyed space pod are. For three, The Justice League hasn’t been formed, it’s not even a baby of a thought in Batman’s head yet, so he has no one else he trusts to be able to hand a super-powered alien baby off to, so, congrats, Bruce, you have a daughter!
Dick is like ‘oh heck yes, someone else to teach all the ways of being one bendy acrobat’
Also, Since Dick can’t get the Nightwing name from Superman (since there is no Superman yet) He has a different hero name, Blackbird
Jason is the dotting older brother type and none of you will change my mind
“Oh god the teething” will be something Bruce groans about in the future when talking about raising this child. First of all, she’s really strong, and develops her physical invulnerability early on, so you have this baby that will probably chew on the granite gargoyles around the mansion and all the batarangs in the cave
Kia, now named Marinette Wayne, spends a lot of her time with Alfred, so she learns early on how to seem like some all-knowing, all-wise entity, and how to control her emotions and outward expressions. They bats will learn to rightly fear her as much as they fear Alfred
Learning how to be a mini-Alfred doesn’t stop her from being fun, being absolutely sweet, or even a sunshine child. Alfred made sure she doesn’t pent up or bottle emotions, she learns how to deal with them in a healthy way and divert the bad ones into powering good ones
Pair that Alfred attitude with training to control her powers and, eventually, training to defend herself as well as fight, in case she ever decides to join the ‘family business’, and you have a force to be reckoned with, even from a young age
The Jason dying thing can either happen or not
If it happens, when he comes back, his rage about being ‘replaced’ can be lessened, considering he already knew the Robin mantle wasn’t meant to ever sit permanently on anyone’s shoulders
Hell, he even looked forward to the day Marinette would be offered the chance to take it up, he may actually rather be more peeved that it wasn’t saved for her before someone else filled it in
A new hero name Jason may potentially take is Cardinal. He takes it up either because dying never happened, so he never becomes Red Hood after Robin, or, he eventually rejoins the family and decides to take up a new one after dropping the RH name.
Damian coming around is going to be funny, here is why
Marinette and Damian would be about the same age at this point, so you have two ten year olds duking it out
One ten year old is trying to kill all the Robins
The other ten year old is trying to prevent the other ten year old from killing her brothers
Damian is a trained assassin that knew she had super strength because the LoA knows things it shouldn’t, but they also don’t have knowledge of Kryptonite or her invulnerability, so he isn’t prepared at all for her interference
Marinette is a semi-trained not-yet-vigilante with super strength, invulnerability, and a determination to pin down her new brother and tell him to stop trying to kill their brothers
She utilizes a lot of her knowledge from Alfred and gains some well earned but reluctant respect and wariness from Damian
All her pinning of him, something she only manages to do out of pure strength because her fighting skills are not as fine and sharp as Damian’s yet, allows for her to continuously rant to him about morals, her explanations of why he shouldn’t kill her brothers, and her thoughts on how terrible and inaccurate the teachings of the LoA are. He is forced to hear all of this, and, eventually, he actually listens
It helps that he also learns to stop attacking the other Wayne children because, with Marinette as their ever-vigilant protection and buffer, he has no hope of succeeding, so he might as well play nice
Damian still takes up the Robin mantle, Marinette letting him, as she has no desire for it yet
They’re both 15 when Damian decides to take off the Robin suit and, instead of continuing to pursue the Batman title as a ‘rightful heir’, wants to make his own name for himself
His new hero name is Starling
Marinette finally accepts the offer to be Robin
This is such bad news for the criminals, not going to lie, but so much fun for her, for the bats, and for us
First of all, the new costume
We all know about how the ‘traffic light’ might just be a way for Batman to be able to keep an eye on his kid while also making sure no one will hit them with their car when they run across the street like idiots without looking
But Marinette is invulnerable and also has enough fashion sense to demand she tine down the colors
She also has taken a liking to the idea of following in her dad’s footsteps and making her Robin look to be as dark, scary, and Cryptid-y as possible
So here is the suit:
The cape is black on the inside, the outside is an almost-black green that allows for blending into the foliage of all the ivy that grows all over the walls of the old buildings of the city
The eyes/lenses of her mask are gold/yellow instead of white, since it was the only place she was willing to add the color. It helped that it would create a creepy eye-glow effect
The body of the suit is black as well
The gloves and boots are a dark red, with an uneven fade into the black of her arms/legs. This causes an illusion of her having been walking through the blood of her enemies, while having also just removed her hands from the chest cavities of the last ones she dealt with. Obviously, she’s going for the scare-factor with that particular look, and Bruce is admittedly impressed with it, even if he disapproves of her making people think she doesn’t follow the no-kill rule
Over-all, the look is high-key intended to make her seem like a Cryptid, much like the Batman one is supposed to
Second! This is about the time all her other powers are going to be coming into the light
So Gotham and its criminals are introduced to a new Robin, and while it may seem nothing odd, they have another thing coming
Robin is suddenly creepy as hell, for one, especially with the dark and bloody appearance paired with the seemingly unnatural ability to be bendy and lithe
Robin is also much stronger, and a few of the smart ones decide never to engage her in combat.
Robin is also suddenly much faster than before, randomly at first, almost seeming to teleport. Rumor has it even Batman was shocked the first few times
Criminals started using insulated grips on their weapons because their weapons were getting unnaturally hot
Coats became common with the minions of villains, because hearing breathing from the shadows would sudden be accompanied by indoor breezes and temperature drops
Wait… is, is Robin, looming? Since when did Robin loom like that? When did they start being able to soundlessly move closer? Wait, hold on, since when did Robin’s feet not touch the ground??
They hate how suddenly they can’t hide things, either, Robin seems to know where they hid all their weapons, their explosives, their traps, their plans, everything
Evil people start hoping really, really hard that the shadow they just saw move is Batman, and only Batman
You guys get the idea, Marinette as Robin is effective and scary and no one outside the Bat Clan/Family know how she does it
Clark, over in Smallville, is dealing with all these new powers, too, and our thoughts go out to him not having as great an outlet for them as Marinette does
But hey! He becomes Superman at, like, 22, so we can skip right to that! In just a moment!
[Interlude: Hawkmoth.]
It is purely by accident that Marinette, 16 years old and still freshly mantled, finds him and ends up taking him down. It was supposed to be a very casual family trip to Paris, nothing more, and it went rather sideways for her instead.
The Justice League still has yet to be formed, so asking for help was simply hit or miss with wherever Paris sent the plea. The Waynes didn’t even know one had been sent to Gotham while they were gone, aimed at Batman, until after the family returned.
The family got caught up in the middle of a joint Akuma and Sentiminster attack, Marinette the only one able to escape fast enough to change into Robin. She joins the Ladybug and Black Cat superheroes in fighting, her presence both shocking and relieving them
She learns about her vulnerability to magic during the fight. She can take the physical blows just fine, but the moment she’s struck by a magical blast, she feels it like any other person. She got lucky that it wasn’t a terrible hit, or one with magical side-effects, but it did injure her, and painfully
The other heroes realize she needs more protection, and are able to offer her a Miraculous, which she accepts in an instant, not at all wanting to keep getting injured. After she transforms, the blasts no longer hurt her, and she can take the physical blows even better than she had before, not to mention she was loving the extra power-boosts on top of what she already had
No, using a Miraculous doesn’t hurt her or make her sick, because channeling or ‘wearing’ magic is different than being attacked with it (Plus, in DC canon, Superman is able to use magic items (it was a sword if I remember right) that can grant him powers and such. Having a vulnerability to something does not equal having a negative reaction to general contact with it.
“Just because a knife can cut you doesn’t mean you have to grasp it by the blade; grab the handle.” - SilverWhiteRaven)
Her X-Ray and 4-D vision powers start acting up, and this is where she purely by accident gets to see exactly where Hawkmoth and Mayura have hidden themselves while they wait the fight out. She does notice she can’t X-ray any of them while their Miraculous were transforming them, and she guessed it was another magic thing interfering with her abilities
As soon as the Sentimonster and Akuma are defeated, she informs the two local heroes about who she saw and where
They seemed uncertain, and a bit sad about the news, and guessed they may have had previously unknown personal connections to their villains
She helps them make a quick plan of action. They used the post-battle recovery time that usually happens, the short recharge period, to their advantage
The three of them storm the Agreste mansion together, and it’s all over before even a rush of adrenaline can kick in
Robin spends a short moment of time to monologue a rant on morality and heroism to the two defeated supervillains as their two abused Miraculous are recovered. She was pretty sure that by the time she finished her speech and left to rejoin her family, both heroes were looking at her like they had instant crushes
Ideas for the Justice League start up after learning about the hit-and-miss cries for help from Paris
[End Interlude: Alright, back to it!]
By 22, Marinette has gone through 7 years of being Robin, and also college, and she and Damian have joined Tim in running Wayne Enterprises. Tim can go take a nap now, and none of the other Waynes are going to let anything stop him
Marinette, the genius she is, has invested in Stuart Semple, the creator of Black 2.0, as her first move in the business, and that I will come back to in a minute
Superman reveals himself to the world, and, loandbehold, every member of the Bat Clan who are in on her secret recognizes that very power set he displays, and all eyes are on Marinette
She realizes, too, that suddenly, she isn’t the only one. Her escape pod was too damaged and missing too many parts after crashing to have given her anything about her original home, and now there’s Someone Else who might have answers!
Pulling herself together, she asks her dad to accompany her to Metropolis, all the way in Kansas (yes, I am doing that, it is way more logical to protect a whole country when the city you put yourself in is in the middle of the thing and not even over on the coast closest to Alaska and Hawaii)
Marinette, when she gets there, makes her way to the top of the tallest tower, Batman in tow as her overseer and moral/emotional support
She gets Superman’s attention by legit just yelling for him, because what else do you do from the top of buildings besides yell into the wind?
He shows up, a little confused, but mostly surprised by the sight of someone who looks a lot like him
She’s very nervous now, a bit scared that they’re wrong and that Superman isn’t like her, that they are nothing alike, and as she notices their similarity in appearance, is anxious about how high her hopes have suddenly become, and how far of a fall the disappointment will be. But a little reassurance from her dad in the shadows and she gets the words out
“Hi, I’m Marinette, and I was wondering- Well, I mean, I needed to know- Just- Wow this is hard, I’m not usually like this, uhm- Superman, are you- are we- did you come from the same place I did? Can you look at me, and- just x-ray me if you can do that, because I can, and if you can, too, that might mean… Well… Please..?”
His eyes are wide and disbelieving but he does it, he looks, and all the time that he, too, spent looking at himself with his X-ray and 4D vision, comparing his biology and it’s differences to that of humans, recognizes the traits of a Kryptonian in her. “Kia?”
Marinette tears up at his response, and chokes out, “I don’t know if that’s me, but please, I want to find out.”
Marinette is able to collect herself, as is Superman, enough to call Batman out of the shadows and introduce the two, explaining that Batman had ‘assisted’ (have to at least try to keep secret identities intact) in her raising and was simply acting as backup and support for her while she came to Metropolis
Superman invites her to visit the Fortress of Solitude with him, and she accepts, telling her dad to head home and, if things went well, not to expect her home for a few weeks, as she would be spending all of her time learning everything she could
There’s a lot of happy crying and comfort hugs the moment the Fortress welcomes her as Kia Jor-El, twin of Kal-El
Just like she warned Bruce, she spends weeks away in the Fortress, learning as much about Krypton as she can get
She listened to the holograms of her birth parents telling her stories, even the ones every Kryptonian child was told to scare them into behaving, or little tales told to teach morals. She didn’t care that she was already an adult, already knew all these lessons from human versions, but they were what she wanted to hear
Learning of old legends, gods, and mythical creatures were some of her favorites to hear, and she was determined to retell them to her family when she returned
She listened to a lot of kryptonian music, too, discovering it had just as much variety in genres and cultures as Earth
You can bet your bucks that she is going to be recreating Kryptonian instruments a to learn to use, as well as learn every dance the Fortress has recorded in its archives
She has a field day when she discovers there are kryptonian puzzle boxes she can recreate
Her favorite days, however, are when Clark comes by to check on her, finding her in the middle of the day, after yet another all nighter of reading Kryptonian non-fiction novels, and he orders her to bed. She doesn’t like the orders, but after the first time, she never complained again. Clark had left the Fortress after day three of them being in the Fortress, and came back to check on her a couple days later to find her sleeplessly tired and still reading. After forcing her to lay down, he convinced her to stay put if he taught her one of the lullabies he had learned himself. Now, every night he was with her in the Fortress, they either sung the Kryptonian lullabies together, to each other, or, fell asleep to the voices of their parents singing instead
Keeping true to the self-promise, when Marinette returned to Gotham, she excitedly told her family as much as she could
Dick, inspired by many of the stories, and wanting to pay tribute to his youngest sister’s heritage, asks if he can create a new hero identity
She happily agrees after asking Clark about it over the phone, and Nightwing is born
They laugh a bit at it, actually, considering that Robin’s colors are a tribute to the Greysons, and Nightwing is one of the Kryptonian Gods, and yet they’ve ended up swapped between them
Justice League time! This is my favorite part, where it gets into pure identity shenanigans
Give it a few more years before the whole idea comes together. Batman may trust his daughter’s brother, but he still needs to get to know him. They still butt heads often enough, but Marinette is a good, if exasperated, mediator that helps them settle down and come to agreements more
When the JL is finally founded, Marinette is 25, and Bruce is, in fact, only there for the official first day of it in operation
That’s right, Bruce retires!
After so long of fighting the corruption and crime of Gotham, there has actually been progress and improvement. Enough so that Bruce is comfortable with actually retiring as a field vigilante, instead joining the behind-the-scene bats by becoming Agent B
Who other than Marinette takes up the cowl of Batman?
She outright told Dick he can’t pull off the attitude for it, and even Damian could agree she was the best fit
There were, of course, questions of how she would hide the fact of Batman suddenly becoming a woman. After rolling her eyes and saying the fact that female armor doesn’t have to look feminine, she tells them that the answer was simple!
Stuart Semple
That’s right, Marinette was already planning to become Batman after her dad!
She also manages to convince Bruce to play a long-term prank on the JL, all the way from day one. What is the prank, you ask?
They don’t tell anyone except those within the Bat Clan that the cowl is being passed on, and no one will ever know that there was a new identity behind Batman
So, how is it pulled off? Like this:
For one, Bruce will reveal his identity as Batman as a sign of trust to the heroes of the JL
Then, immediately after, he will go home and hang up the cowl for good
Then Marinette is going to take out her redesign and take up the Batman role
The entirety of the new suit is going to be made with Black 2.0, and combining it with the cloak that will cover her whole body, a new full-face mask/helmet, full body armor, a speed that will keep pictures from getting clear pictures of even her profile, and her Kryptonian ability to masterfully manipulate her voice to keep the frightening baritones of her dad, her identity is securely secret, and the prank perfectly maintainable
Add in her own personal touch of changing the usual white eye lenses to gold, layering the cloak with a mechanism that raises and lowers the layers to allow for maximum looming height (where no one can tell if her feet are touching the ground) while also keeping it out of the way when crouching or keeping low, and you have a Batman that not only looks like a literal and legit void with creepy glowing eyes, but one that is going to be scaring the hell out of every single hero, too, when she walks by them in the halls of the JL
Really, it’s the perfect functional prank
It gets more fun every time she comes home from a mission and tells everyone about how her teammates kept commenting that they had worried about Bruce’s age, but with ‘him’ upping the scare levels and seeming to actually be improving in ‘his’ skills, speed, and strength, they find they have nothing to worry about
It’s barely a week in before she overhears a few people considering begging Batman to tone down the endless-void look, but she accidentally scares them off when they spot her, and she’s certain the prank is going to last a good amount of time now
Gotham continues to improve, enough so that the constant presence of Batman isn’t required, easily manageable by the other bats, even in lessened numbers
Most of the bats suspect Marinette taking up the cowl and the new look had a great deal of impact on the most recent crime drops
Bruce has taken to putting lawn chairs in the mansion’s library and using one of Marinette’s old sippy-cups for his evening scotch and cocktails, claiming to be catching up on a missed childhood, with an adult twist
Bruce discovers the Wii, and family game nights have become a thousand times funnier after all the wrist straps get lost
There’s something else Gotham and the JL notice after Batman ‘stopped holding back’ along with the new look. Batman got gentle
It wasn’t that he wasn’t gentle before, no; Batman has always cared about others. Has always treated the villains with humanity and made sure the ones that needed it got the treatments they needed, always made sure no one got hurt unjustly and no one died. Always made sure victims were looked after and safe. But now it’s a lot more
Batman becomes slower, softer, gentler when handling people, good or bad, ‘his’ fist a gauntlet of iron coated in the fluffiest of velvet and stuffed with plush cotton. He even began using words first a lot more, kicks and fists less and less
It boggles everyone this sudden new contrast, this scary as hell void, this renewed cryptid, this beastly monster of the night, having a heart light as a feather, pure as gold
In fact, oddly enough, it scares them all, heroes and villains alike, a hell of a lot more
Everyone knows never to underestimate someone who seems soft, and if Batman is already a better fighter than before, and softer than ever, then please, they beg in the names of the gods, what else is hidden under that cowl?
The prank still works wonderfully, of course, because no one connects the cryptid-ness of the last Robin, that everyone was told had ‘moved on from the Robin mantle’, with the improved cryptid-ness of Batman. Remember that ‘I sure hope it’s just Batman’ thing? Well now they’re frightened of Batman all over again, but they still fear the ‘Return of Robin’, because once again, if Batman has improved, what in the world has Robin been up to?
The prank finally ends with the decision of picking her duty over continuing to keep the secret
Themyscira is in need of some help, some problem there that the Amazonians can’t figure out themselves
Thing is, it’s a women-only place
So the decision is to volunteer for the mission, or keep up the prank
Obviously, she’s a good person and volunteers, deciding it’s time for the prank to be revealed
Thing is, she doesn’t say she’s a woman or even drops the deep scary voice before raising her hand and saying, “I’ll go.”
Everyone is dead silent and just stares
Her hidden straight poker face cracks and she stands up with a laugh, before she unclasped her cloak and drapes it over the back of her seat
Then she pulls off the full-headed mask/helmet, fully breaking the look of an endless void
Everything is dead silent still as everyone stares, before Superman drops his head into his hands, realizing what has been happening, and just bemoans, “Kia, why…”
That’s when the noise breaks and everyone looks at Superman, basically all asking, “WAIT, you KNOW her???”
Marinette is cracking up, trying to suppress her laughter as she subtly sends a message to her family not present at the meeting that the gig is up
Everyone quiets down when Batman stands and clamps a hand down on our unmasked Batman
“Everyone, this is Marinette, ex-Robin, Bruce Wayne’s daughter, and Kia Jor-El, my twin sister.”
It’s noisy all over again, and this time she can’t keep the laugh in
Diana, though, may or may not be dead silent, staring at Batman, and feeling very, very gay right now
Everything settles down eventually, and everything gets back on track, but it will be months before the JL members stop being absolutely disbelieving that they got bamboozled so well and for so long, and they may just be even more frightened of Batman than ever before
The Bat Clan gets a whole new round of laughs after Marinette returns from Themyscira and describes the reaction of the Amazons when Diana introduces Batman as one of the volunteering heroes, before remembering to also mention that Batman, despite the name and previous holder of the mantle, is indeed a woman
Also, considering that Kryptonians are functionally immortal when their powers are working, Marinette is basically permanently Batman now, and can watch over Gotham and everyone else for basically forever now alongside Superman and Wonder Woman
Good luck figuring out how to explain it when the public notices the youngest Wayne daughter isn’t aging any more
Imagine all the kids she’s probably going to end up adopting into the Wayne family over time, too. ‘Mominette’ is too valid to exclude, and this is absolutely going to be a moment of “Oh my god, it’s a learned behavior.”
AND THAT’S BASICALLY IT!! I really hope you liked this, I had so much fun thinking up this whole idea!!
Edit: Now has a Companion/Alternate Story! Krypto-Rogue Twins AU!!!

SMP Rambles time so I don’t fill Discord up with random crap(tm)
May there be mercy on the souls of all the pets that are gonna die tomorrow - Friend, BeeInnit, Pigza, Squeeks, Mr. Buzzy, Enderchest, Enderpearl, Jjjjjeffrey, Ranbone, whatever Ranboo named his dog. (Unless Ranboo decides to move em all to a safe place beforehand)
Because let’s face it. History is probably gonna repeat itself once more. It truly is a curse. L’manburg’s forever doomed to get blown up until it just doesn’t get built up again anymore. This referring to the place, of course. Though the people ain’t doing too well either.
Now don’t get me wrong, I do have this slight idea that somehow they’re gonna be able to protect it, or partially protect it, orrrr work it out through words, but somebody’s gonna die, and the constant mention of the prison? I think that’s gonna come into play. The favor.
Dream mentioned before that he wanted fake conflict between him and Punz, his most loyal henchman if we’re being honest, and Punz joining the rest shows that it’s in motion. Because Dre said that he’s gonna do something that’ll make everyone hate him, that he’ll have to go into hiding. This is referring to either L’manberg being blown up again, or whoever is getting thrown into the prison, or both. It could honestly be both. or something much much worse.
It’s Dream, Techno and Phil vs Tommy and a bunch of people, of who nobody truly trusts him/is by his side, even Tubbo’s still hurting. Ranboo had a breakdown and won’t know what the hell to do tomorrow. Niki is probably gonna join up with Techno against Tommy because she reckons he’s the reason all of this is happening. Quackity’s no longer part of L’manberg, though I feel that the day he made his whole speech in BBH and Skeppy’s mansion, aaand building Mexican L’manberg/El Rapids that was already the case.
If anybody’s gonna die tomorrow, it’s gonna be Ranboo by the hand of Quackity. Or him protecting Tommy or Tubbo. I doubt either of those two will die canonically, because of storyline and such, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if one died protecting the other. or both dying protecting each other. The other will go apeshit or break completely in the case of one dying. But again, because of storyline, them having to sort out their conflict, aaand what’s planned for the prison (Tubbo ain’t allowed to see it, Tommy didn’t know about it), I doubt either of ‘em will die. I don’t think Quackity or Jack’ll die either. Would be too soon.
While I do recall Tommy and Techno talking about blowing the community house up off stream during the previous lore stream (Yesterday), Techno’s confusion at there being TNT in the tunnels (Ranboo’s stream from yesterday) gives me the slight suspicion, which is more obvious than not, that it was all a set-up. Dream blowing it up to blame Tommy and lure him out, to get everyone to be even more against Tommy, to get the disc from Tubbo. Even Tubs says he doesn’t think Tommy would do that. Dream said he doesn’t care about anything or anyone. Him getting angry about the community house? It’s all an act (An act within an act, wild). It’s an excuse to cause more problems, because as dear tall boi Ranboo explained, it’s all entertainment to him. To watch people fight. It’s how he stays in power. Causing problems between people, because if they’re only focusing on what the people they’re against are doing, they don’t focus on the true problem, which is the green bastard himself. Dream even went to the poor guy, in the middle of his crisis, to gaslight him, make him believe he did it.
Ranboo out here being the one with the most sense and of course, he ain’t being listened to.10/10.
Tommy told Tubbo to give the disc, the disc he gave to him originally to show his loyalty and to show he trusts him with his life, to Dream, to show how serious he was being about realizing he became something he didn’t want to be, to show that he wasn’t behind the community house stuff. Tubbo even asked if he was sure. He chose Tubbo over Techno. Techno doesn’t seem to get that Tommy will probably always pick Tubbo over anyone and anything else, even if Tubs wouldn’t do the same, he’s his best friend since the beginning, just like he himself would pick Phil over anything and anyone. Tommy’s loyalty to who’s probably his only true friend on the server is stronger than any brainwash, any manipulation, any war, any betrayal. Tubbo’s loyalty...well, he’s trying, but he’s still hurting. Tommy knows he is. Their lil convo at the end of the streams show that. I doubt tomorrow’s will be any better.
Tubbo stands up for Ranboo against Quackity. I think he feels a bit ‘hmm’ on what to do about him, but so far? He still considers him a friend. Problem is now that Quackity has Ran’s book. And I doubt he’s gonna give it back unless he stupidly leaves it in a chest. That’s...gonna be a problem. Because he isn’t part of L’manberg anymore, he can kill him without any problems or consequences. Quackity being processed by Schlatt really showed there when he said that he wanted Ranboo executed in L’manberg. Similar to how Tubbo was killed - Decorated for his own funeral. Tubbo was right for not standing for it one bit. People seem to not realize that it ain’t a Tubbo villain arc, but a Quackity villain arc.
Ranboo’s not doing well at all holy shit I wanna give him a hug. Having a crisis about who to help because even if he wanted to pick people, not sides, he is ultimately going to have to pick between everyone and the anarchists. I reckon it’s evenly split, those he considers friends. He could either side with Techno, Phil (and possibly Niki) in destroying stuff with Dream, or go against Dream with Tommy, Tubbo and Fundy. He did write down that he’d help the big group, and it makes sense. Even if Phil helped him, and they did have that bit of bonding time with the villager (Orphan), Techno killed him countless times, they tried to run from him multiple times too. Meanwhile, Tubbo has talked to him every time he can, his home and pets are in L’manberg, Tommy took all the blame for Gogy’s house, even took exile on by himself, Tubbo considers him a friend despite learning what happened. Dream’s got him convinced that he blew the community house up, so he’s questioning everything. Tomorrow he’s gonna either stand to the side, or he’s gonna die protecting those of L’manberg and L’manberg itself. And if he takes Dream’s bull to heart, and admits to supposedly blowing it up, he’ll also end up in the prison.
I might be wrong on that, him joining L’manberg, though. Could be the exact opposite. Either way, Jailboo(tm)...probably.
And then of course there’ Niki. Niki’s acting is phenomenal. She says that she tried to be nice and all, but everyone left or betrayed her, so she doesn’t care for any of them anymore. Wilbur blew stuff to smithereens and left (So she still doesn’t know that Wilbur’s dead/Ghostbur). Everyone talks over her. She says that Tommy’s the main cause of the problems lately - Burning Gogy’s house, leaving his exile (thus pissing Dream off more), the community house getting blown up (which wasn’t actually him) and now L’manberg being blown up as well. She even decided that the secret city of peace doesn’t matter anymore, because she’s pretty much against everyone now, it’ll just be a base/library. She even considered joining Techno because he’s against Tommy.
We know for a fact Phil will join Techno because he’s bitter over the house arrest stuff, viva anarchy, and he called Tommy’s tower ‘The traitor tower’. That says a lot by itself. He will probably be cautious though, since he only has one life.
Not sure what Ghostbur will think about this. He’ll...probably be on the same fence as Ranboo orrr he’ll only be concerned for Friend.
Fundy’s got this bigass agenda to kill Dream that is to the same level as Quackity. They both really want him dead. Though, again as dear Ranboo said, they might win tomorrow, but it’ll only be temporary because he will come back. Same with Techno. (Catch me placing bets that Punz’ll be the one to kill/hurt Dream to show his supposed loyalty to the rest).
One thing that’s interesting to me is how Sapnap decided that he’d be joining Dream instead of fighting alongside everyone else. Despite how little Dream cares for him. Despite the stuff El Rapids went through. All of that. I feel like that’s a case where you don’t pick your friend over the rest. Unlike Tommy and Tubbo, who 100% still care for each other, Dream made it clear he cares for nothing and no-one, including his friends. Sapnap even questioned it with...Tommy I think it was? When they released Mars?? Don’t quote me on what stream it was that he questioned stuff.
I wonder what Puffy thinks about all of this. Not being a L’manbergian. Niki getting angry, being against...pretty much everyone. Reckon that ‘everyone left/betrayed’ includes her? That would be a big oof. Having to fight for a nation that’s doomed to be blown up anyways.
Don’t know too much on the others’ stances about the whole thing. Only Eret was the other one to stream. He did seem to get a bit worried about Ranboo though. And he went to gather supplies ‘n stuff.
I wonder, now that Dream has 2 of 3, what he’s gonna do for the final disc. I wonder if Tommy’s gonna stay stubborn and try to get the discs, or give it up in the name of his friends and country, even everyone on the SMP.
In conclusion, today’s streams were fuckling wild. I am both worried and excited for what’s to come. Pandora’s Vault’s waiting for these bastards and that by itself is just fear.png.

Five frequently asked Supergirl CW questions...
...and possible answers from the comics
Tumblr media
Check social media. Read the forums. Scroll through the Subreddits. There are some questions that just refuse to go away. Time and time again fans of the CW’s Supergirl show keep asking the same old questions: How does she hide her costume? Who is stronger? Why does nobody recognise her?
Likely the questions will continue to be asked long after Melissa Benoist has hung up her cape on the final episode, but just for fun it might be interesting to take a meander through the 60+ years of Supergirl’s adventures in print, to see how successful the comics were at addressing the tv show’s most quizzed quirks.
Tumblr media
Covered herein:
How does Supergirl fit her costume under her everyday clothes?
Why does nobody recognise that Kara Danvers is just Supergirl with glasses?
Is Supergirl more powerful than Superman?
How did Kara get her ears pierced?
How come nobody connects the name Kara Danvers with Kara Zor-El?
It’s roughly a ten minute read, peppered with interesting Supergirl pictures. Enjoy...
#1 -- How does Supergirl fit her costume under her everyday clothes?
Tumblr media
The modern tv incarnation of Supergirl seems uncertain as to whether Supergirl’s costume uses a futuristic (and budget depleting) nano-tech solution, or a classic (and cheap) costume-under-clothes trick. Traditionally, with the exception of Matrix’s brief shape-shifting stint in the job, the comicbook Supergirl has tended to favour the latter tactic, prompting fans to ask how her costume fits under her street clothes. The first such query to reach the DC letters pages was from reader Helen Silberman of Irvington NY. In Action Comic #263 (March 1960), Helen wrote:
Dear Editor, I like SUPERGIRL very much. She is my favorite feature. But I often wonder how she conceals the long sleeves on her costume when she wears a short~sleeved dress as Linda Lee.
Acknowledging that this was a common question, editor Mort Weisinger explained that Supergirl’s super costume is super flexible.: “She merely keeps the sleeves rolled up.” This was confirmed inside the strip itself when Action Comics #342 (Oct 1966) saw Linda referencing the costume hidden under her t-shirt, and an editorial caption handily adds “Linda has rolled up the long sleeves of her super-flexible costume.”
But, respond the fans, what about her boots?
Tumblr media
Since the Silver Age, Superman has adopted the practice of stashing his Clark Kent attire as a super-compressed parcel inside a hidden pocket in the inner lining of his cape. Various stories confirm that Supergirl does the same, and visual proof of this came in The Daring New Adventures of Superman #5 (May 1983), when she is seen reclaiming her dress from the pocket. Presumably the same pouch could hide her boots when dressed in her everyday identity?
Okay, so the boots are super-compressed inside the cape, but what about the cape itself?
Tumblr media
This is where things start to get a little problematic.
There’s plenty of mid-transformation frames stretching back as far as Supergirl’s early Silver Age antics depicting her wearing her cape underneath her regular clothes. How she does this seems never to be explained, so we probably have to chalk this one up to a comicbook trope that readers (and now the tv viewers) just have to accept.
#2 -- Why does nobody recognise that Kara Danvers is just Supergirl with glasses?
Tumblr media
Supergirl has adopted various means of masking her true identity down the years. The tv Supergirl hides behind a pair of glasses; her comicbook counterparts have variously used wigs, special molecule-rearranging hair dyes, shape-shifting, and advanced DEO technologies. None of these, with the exception of Matrix’s ability to shape-shift into Linda Danvers, really stands the real-world credibility test.
The problem here is that the comicbook superhero genre has its origins in a more simplistic storytelling age, were the application of just a pair of glasses, or a wig, or a fake moustache, was sufficient to create a false identity. There’s countless examples from Superman’s early decades of Lois Lane fooling the Man of Steel with just the application of a wig, and indeed the epic Silver Age tale that first revealed Supergirl’s existence to the world hangs on evil Kandorian scientist, Lesla Lar,successfully fooling Superman into believing she is Kara Zor-El by just rearranging her hair.
Tumblr media
One can argue that Kara’s use of a wig is potentially a better disguise than Kal-El’s glasses and change of posture, but ultimately both methods have severe limitations. Research conducted by the universities of York and Huddersfield (UK) suggested that while some disguises (makeup, wigs, etc.) are effective at hiding a person’s identity, the effectiveness drops if the subject is known to the person doing the identifying. As such, in the real world, neither Clark nor Kara would stand a chance of fooling their friends and colleagues.
Tumblr media
In Superman #330 (Dec 1978) there was a half-hearted attempt to address the problem by suggesting that the Kryptonian glass used in Clark’s eye-wear boosts a subconscious super-hypnotises power, projecting an image of Clark as feeble, but this created more problems than it solved. What happened when Clark anchored the WGBS News on tv; and how did Linda Danvers get by without any Kryptonian face furniture? So, sadly, the comics don’t really provide much of an answer -- we must write the problem off as a relic from a bygone storytelling era, that modern audiences just have to accept as part of the established baggage that comes with superheroes.
#3 -- Is Supergirl more powerful than Superman?
Tumblr media
Although both Superman and Supergirl have Kryptonian origins, their route to Earth was markedly different. Kal-El arrived as an infant, while Kara didn’t arrive until her teenage years. Fans (at least those who have wont to obsess over such matters) have therefore speculated about how this affected their power levels.
When Supergirl first appeared in comics it became clear early on that Kal-El and Kara Zor-El had identical superpowers. There isn’t a direct comparison of the two cousins -- they never went head to head -- but DC’s writers certainly seemed to adopt the principle that any super-feats that Superman could do, Supergirl could do just as well.
Tumblr media
That said, during Supergirl’s long history there have been periods when the power balance has clearly shifted. For example, it is reasonable to assume that the Matrix Supergirl (both pre and post merger with Linda Danvers in Volume 4) was less powerful than the Man of Steel. Indeed in the latter part of Volume 4 -- the period when Supergirl sported a white t-shirt and gloves -- she was significantly de-powered, even losing the ability to fly.
Likewise from Adventure Comics #402 to #423 (Feb 1971 to Sep 1972) the Girl of Steel had intermittent issues with her superpowers, thanks to the effects of a drug concocted by super-villain Starfire. At inopportune moments her powers would fail her entirely, resulting in Kara relying on various gadgets developed in the Bottle City of Kandor as a backup.
Tumblr media
But wait a moment... because the balance of power hasn’t always shifted in favour of Superman.
During this Bronze Age period Superman also had issues with his powers. As part of a shake-up of the character, editor Julius Schwartz instigated a story running across Superman #240 to #242 (July to Sept 1971) that saw Superman lose a third of his power levels... permanently(!!) This was part of Schwartz’s plan to curb some of the silly excesses of Silver Age. Some fans have noted, however, that the Girl of Steel’s power loss was only intermittent, and eventually the effects of Starfire’s drug wore off entirely, so in September 1972 she technically became 50% more powerful than her cousin.
#4 -- How did Kara get her ears pierced?
Tumblr media
Since the tv show began fans have been asking about how Kara could have pierced her earlobes of steel. It is clear from the opening moments of the pilot episode that Malina Weissman’s young Kara doesn’t appear to have any piercings when departing the dying Krypton, yet when the episode skips forward a decade to Melissa Benoist’s twenty-something Kara, she clearly does.
Show creator and producer, Ali Adler, responded to a fan’s tweeted question by suggesting that Kara had her ears done “At the mall on #krypton”, which is a fun answer, but doesn’t seem to concur with the pilot. So is there an explanation from deep within comicbook lore?
Yes. (Probably!)
Tumblr media
The most likely explanation is that Kara used her heat vision and a mirror to burn the holes into her own earlobes. Since the early Golden Age era it has been established that Superman is strong enough to piece his own skin with his fingernails, allowing him to give a blood sample. Editors initially responded to inquiries about how Superman shaved or cut his hair and nails by suggesting that these parts of his anatomy didn’t grow under Earth’s sun. But eventually, as Superman spent more time on alien planets, they devised more creative solutions -- the heat vision haircut was one of them.
Tumblr media
In the comics, Injustice 2 #21 (May, 2018) finally let readers see Supergirl (at least a version of Supergirl) using heat vision to cut her hair. Meanwhile the tv show had already treated viewers to Kara giving a super-trim to Mon-El’s mop in episode 2x05 - “Crossfire” (okay, so he was a Daxamite not a Kryptonian, but hey, same difference!) This suggests that Kara’s invulnerability can be defeated by her own powers in the tv universe, just like the comics, so a piercing blast from her eyes rather than a trip to the mall is probably the most satisfying answer.
#5 -- How come nobody connects the name Kara Danvers with Kara Zor-El?
Tumblr media
It may be a small problem, but it’s one that clearly bugs some viewers. Kara Danvers not only has the same first name as Kara Zor-El, but she also pronounces it in the same distinctively European way -- “Kar-ah” not “Care-ah” (despite what Cat Grant may want us to think.)
How does she get away with this?
In the comics this generally hasn’t been a problem. Prior to the Melissa Benoist tv show, Supergirl had been known as Linda (Linda Lee, Linda Lang, Linda Danvers), or as Mae (short for Matrix), or briefly as Claire Connor. Only Kara Kent, the Supergirl of the cartoon show, Superman: the Animated Series (1996), had stuck with her Kryptonian first name. This changed in 2016, however, when DC adopted many of the tv Supergirl elements into its comicbooks, including the Kara Danvers secret identity.
Tumblr media
Up until the tv show’s fourth season it could be argued that Benoist’s Supergirl had been very careful never to make her birth-name public, so there was little opportunity for anyone to link her two personas. But that changed in episode 4x14 - “Stand and Deliver”, when Kara can clearly be heard announcing herself as “Kara Zor-El, citizen of Earth” at a public protest, as a crowd watches. So very likely, after that incident, the Maid of Might’s Kryptonian name was plastered all over social media, and given Kara Danvers’ high profile as an award-winning journalist, we’re no closer to explaining why an army of armchair sleuths on Facebook or Reddit haven’t connected the two women.
Tumblr media
Sadly the comics can’t really answer this Kara conundrum, because it is a problem largely of the tv show’s own making. Perhaps the only solution is to ignore episode 4x14 and assume that everyone in National City (aside from the regular cast) live in blissful ignorance of Supergirl’s Krypton name.
Conclusion
So it’s a mixed bag of success and failure. The comics provide answers to some problems, but come up empty handed for others. But perhaps we shouldn’t be too disheartened. Sure, it may be fun to devise answers to the quirks and oddities of the tv show, but ultimately it won’t stop fans from asking the same questions time and time again. The sillier aspects of superheroes are part of the genre’s charm, and trying to devise clever ways of explaining away the wackier elements is all part of the fun.
Tumblr media
Hopefully you found the above an entertaining and informative read, but the five proffered answers shouldn’t discourage anyone from dreaming up their own explanations -- after all, these questions aren’t really properly answered until the tv show’s writers choose to answer them.
Until then, we can all have fun speculating.

CARNIVAL recaps [4/13]
Today’s recap: We interrupt the plot to bring you Ellery Queen fanfiction, or: a two-headed dog and the theory of chaos.
--
EIGHT
17 Aug 1996 — 23 Aug 1996
EMPIRE STATE BUILDING
--
...But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower the people were building. The Lord said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.”
So the Lord scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city. That is why it was called Babel—because there the Lord confused the language of the whole world.
--
The Empire State Building that reaches the skies is blown up.
S-rank detective Ronely Queen learns about it from the radio news. She’s a young blond white woman, the pince-nez she’s always wearing bringing to mind her grandfather, the famous detective Ellery Queen. Right now she’s driving to a place where grandpa Ellery once solved a certain case: an inn called The Two-Headed Dog.
[This chapter is pretty much one giant fanfiction of the actual Ellery Queen story The Two-Headed Dog from 1934. To recap that story: Ellery stays at the eponymous inn and hears a tale of a jewel thief who once stayed there under the fake name John Morse. One day the thief disappeared, his dog was found dead in the woods, and the cabin seemed haunted ever since, eerie noises coming from inside at night. During Ellery’s stay at the inn, another guest is murdered in the haunted cabin.
The twist is that the thief had two dogs. When he was murdered and his body hidden under the cabin’s floor, the surviving dog would sneak inside and claw at the floor making it sound like there were ghosts around. The man who got killed during Ellery’s stay was the thief’s murderer coming back to the crime scene. The dog recognized him and ripped his throat to shreds. The story ends with Ellery pointing out the coincidence between there being two dogs and the inn’s name.]
Ronely Queen is greeted warmly by the inn’s owner Theodore Hosey and his young daughter Diana. [You should remember them both for later.] They know each other well, as Ronely (or Lee, as Diana calls her) often stays at the inn, and Theodore was her professor back when she was studying applied criminology at Harvard.
It happens that an older man called John Morse—just like the person involved in the Ellery Queen case—is currently staying at the inn. This John Morse claims he’s a private detective taking a brief rest in the middle of pursuing a serial killer nicknamed Deep Cut. The investigation apparently required him to bring a dog, which is now chained in one of the cabins.
Later Queen talks with Theodore trying to reason out why the global crime rate is at a sudden rise. She thinks that Theodore’s personal World Chaos Theory may be helpful in explaining it. In that theory, there exists an “El Niño Point”—a singularity point that stands at the center of chaotic phenomena. You know, the butterfly flapping its wings that causes a storm in another country, this kind of thing.
Theodore believes the Billion Killer might be that El Niño / Singularity point that’s behind not only the Saturday cases, but the rising crime rate overall. (Queen does notice the irony in calling someone like the Billion Killer El Niño, a term that originally refers to baby Jesus.) Basically, once they solve the mystery of the Billion Killer, everything else should become clear.
The conversation leads to Theodore’s ex-wife Anna Robertson, who changed her name to Nina Roberts and started journeying through the US in a camping car. Theodore admits ashamed that he trailed her for some time. Unfortunately, Nina became the seventh, unusual victim of the serial killer Deep Cut. Up until her, Deep Cut only targeted men, leaving the corpses with their cut off genitalia stuffed in their mouths. When Theodore heard that his ex-wife was murdered, he hired John Morse to investigate the case.
--
When Queen is in her cabin later, she hears two gunshots and dashes outside. Theodore runs out of Morse’s cabin, his arm bleeding, and quickly leads Queen to the scene.
Morse is dead on the floor with his throat torn open. On top of him lies a big dog that had been shot in the head, a length of untethered chain hanging from its collar. Morse’s lifeless hand is still holding a gun. Nearby lies a briefcase full of money.
What happened according to Theodore: John Morse had discovered that Deep Cut was actually Nina Roberts killing her lovers. To gain alibi at the time of death, Nina would leave her specially trained dog with the victim, call them on the phone and recite a phrase that prompted the dog to attack and kill the victim. Then she’d retrieve the dog and arrange the crime scene.
Ronely Queen guesses that Morse must have blackmailed Theodore, threatening he would tell everyone about Nina and destroy the family’s reputation. Theodore admits it’s true. He was supposed to give Morse the briefcase of money in exchange for the dog. But when he was untying the dog after the exchange, he wondered if it really was the correct animal, as it seemed too gentle and calm for a killer dog. At that moment Morse yelled “Please hate me!”, and the dog attacked hearing the phrase—but instead of Theodore, it threw itself at Morse. Despite Morse screaming “Love me! Love me!”, the dog wouldn’t stop biting at his throat, and finally Morse had to shoot it. Before he died from injuries, Morse tried to shoot Theodore too, but only grazed his arm.
There’s just one little thing that bothers Queen in this testimony. The dog’s teeth have very little blood on them, as if someone intentionally wiped the rest away.
One hypothesis is that after Theodore left the cabin, Morse wasn’t dead yet and wiped the dog’s teeth as a sort of a dying message. Maybe this message was that the dog (or any other dog) wasn’t actually used in the Deep Cut murders? If Morse was Deep Cut and used the dog successfully even once, he should have known that the phrase used to stop it wasn’t  in fact “love me”. The most obvious theory would be that Morse had been pursuing Nina Roberts and killing her lovers out of jealousy with his own two hands, and Nina eventually committed suicide.
But Queen can see that Morse is just a fake culprit, and finally explains the truth behind the case. Who fits the role of the El Niño Point the best in this entire case? If you look at everything logically, it’s Theodore Hosey.
It was Theodore who pursued his ex-wife and killed her lovers. Morse discovered it and blackmailed Theodore. It was Theodore who ordered the dog to attack Morse, and it’s not that the dog didn’t listen to the phrase “love me”, it’s that Morse never even said that phrase in the first place. Morse wiped the dog’s teeth to symbolically show that the animal itself was an innocent tool and that the murderer was Theodore.
As for that gentle dog that could suddenly turn vicious, maybe you could say it had a double personality—a true Two-Headed Dog.
And so a tiny meagre case was solved, causing barely a ripple in the vast terrifying scale of the Crime Olympics… but everything would have its meaning in time.
