One bad dance is all it takes to launch Jesper on the season of a lifetime; one full of long days, gossip rags and marriage-minded marquises. The best he can hope for is to avoid getting into trouble too deep to escape from, but anything might happen in a season like this one.

The assassin grinned. "You've underestimated me," he fired back, teeth bared like a wolf. "Any person who crosses me does not live to tell the tale."

Kaz shot back a wolfish grin of his own, tipping his hat to the assassin. "It's a good thing I'm not a person."

Inej comes down with a bizzare illness that has her weak and feverish and at the brink of death. As a result, she is forced to confront some truths about her heart she's spent the longest time avoiding.

Truths meaning her feelings about Kaz Brekker. Feelings which, knowing him, are most definitely unrequited, and will therefore only make her suffer more.

All in all, it's a pretty dire situation. Things are bound to get messy.

But her time is running out.

Haha thank you!! I honestly think Cole having a bird connection like his Amari family is highly underrepresented. A Harris Hawk or similar would suit him, having such a sharp eye *like* a hawk. (Somewhat related, but if you want a fic featuring eagle Cole and wolf Hanzo, check out this fic I was a part of a while back) That bird mark engravings idea is sooooo cute, I love it 🥹

And I just love Kiriko’s and Hanzo’s interactions. I need more of them honestly.

I feel like, in light of the SAB show cancellation, I should do another kanej fic rec list of older/underrated fics that I love?? Because, like, just because the show ends doesn’t mean the fandom is over! The fandom lives through creators who keep making cool stuff about these stories and characters, and through the people who seek out and enjoy that content.

I think about this a lot, honestly: there’s such a recency bias in fandom, as though if a new season isn’t *imminently* coming out and people aren’t posting a million new fics *now* then the fandom must be dead—and that’s just not true! As a writer, the best thing is getting comments on months- and years-old fics. And if anything, I hope this cancellation inspires people to go back and consume the SOC fics and art and edits that they love, and to comment on them, and to talk about them with other people who might love them.

We have the power to keep fandom alive in our hands; Netflix doesn’t. It never has.

I'm having my own little fandom renaissance right now, posting fic for the first time in a decade(+) and going back and reading old fic that I loved. (And mourning all that has been lost as well -- kids, when they say the internet is forever, it's only true for things you want forgotten; the little story that changed your life when you were sixteen can very much disappear into nothingness.)

As I reread I'm trying be better about commenting - I fell out of the habit as I fell out of fandom. And then I started thinking about recs and how much I miss social bookmarking (the heyday of del.icio.us was incredible for finding fic, and nothing I've seen has truly replicated it). So, in honor of Dan's New York Renaissance, here are three of my favorite Sports Night gems:

The Light, by mojokid Summary: Dan screws up again. Rec: This is one of my favorite fics of all time. It's simple and understated and beautiful. It captures Dan and Casey and their complex relationship - their friendship, their rivalry, Dan's sadness, Casey's need to be right, the ways Casey loves Danny but doesn't always understand him, or understands but is fundamentally different.

Kickoff, by mollyamory Summary: "So," Casey said. He grinned, and Dan smiled back in spite of his best intentions. "You want to see your room?" Rec: This is a prequel that perfectly sets up the Casey-Lisa-Dana-Danny dynamic in the show. The dialogue is on point, the writing is great, and you can see how the decisions they make in this story paint the way for the places they end up later.

Where Have You Gone, Tom Glavine, by Sab Summary: Quo vadis, Casey McCall? A nation turns its lonely eyes to you. Rec: Another one that really captures the complexity of their relationship. It's about dealing with change and coming to terms with the fact that your heroes (and the people you love) are flawed and hurt you, and moving forward when your life doesn't go the way you thought it would.

And a lost one I'm mourning: Reruns All Become Our History, by likethesun2 (I remember this as being so good, if anyone ever stumbles across it somewhere please let me know

Putting these together made me remember that the dialogue in Sports Night fic is top notch. This fandom was a real masterclass in conversations where a lot of words are said while only hinting at all the stuff going on underneath.

Jesper had just returned to Ketterdam after his years in Ravka, ready to give up on his vices and to heal from his ruinous past, full of mistakes and scandals. The last thing he needed right now was to get himself into a messy situation that didn’t even involve him in the first place. But one encounter with Wylan was enough to alter his course.

A secret friend group, a secret relationship that neither of them dared put a name to, a looming threat, and a whole lot of media frenzy.

ok, so i had a bit too much nervous energy last year and posted most of the sets i wanted to make. which you would think would leave me with nothing else to post, but that's not technically true. most of these are from shadow and bone a few pre/post season, and one tua. there's no rhyme or reason. i just had a time giffing last year.... iykyk.

untitled wylan project. this was made sometime in jan/feb... i know it was before jack's casting... anyways i was watching 15 days (pls don't watch it, it's awful) and this shot was giving me wylan energy so i made it with the intention to post it after s2 premiere and then i didn't. it just felt too modern, so i dropped it.

kanej fic rec. so a few things: 1) this is my gift to @whatanybodygets <3, 2) this was supposed to be a part two of this set / kanej fic (written by alltheworldsinmyhead & Whitherward), and 3) you should read this fic.... i personally love it and it's something small i could make for a friend.

the crows header. this was supposed to be part of larger set after the cancellation, but then i got sad thinking about it and again. i did make a different set afterwards. and then i kept making more sets... so, it wasn't a loss. it's something small and quick and im still sad about sab's fate. will i ever make the set i was planning, no. i just... i want to but i'm also just not entirely sure where i was going with this.

zoyalai gif. i made a few ZN gifs for someone and then i was really sure i was gonna make a whole set based on this gif... but for some reason I didn't. and it ended up just being a fun concept for someone and i still think about making something... but i'll be the first to admit i'm not a huge fan of the ravkan gang lol i won't but it's fun to think about.

allison (greek goddess). way back in 2019, i did a hargreeves as demigods set. which was based on a post i saw... and the comments were, um... not kind, there was a bit of discourse on what character should be which. and as i mentioned this was an inspired set. so i ended up debating back and forth about how much time i wanted to put and whether or not posting it. i did really like experimenting with the pink in this. i even went ahead and got the fonts... just never went anywhere.
