Using Bells In Your Hoodoo Practice.
Tumblr media
In this post I wanted to give you an option for using bells it's not hoodoo but can be used in your practice.
Experienced spiritual workers and magic practitioners often keep musical instruments on their altars. These could be anything from drums to singing bowls, rattles, these specific instrument that you can find all over, in all sorts of religions and magical paths: Bells like rattles are used to cleanse, protect, drive away the bad, and more. Now I'm sure your thinking that bells are not apart of hoodoo traditionally it's not but all types of religions uses them. There used with other instruments like a rattles. In Vodou we use them both.
(see my post on rattles)

Cleansing A Space Before Ritual Work:
Bright, clear tones help remove negative or stagnant energies from an area. Before you perform a spell or ritual, ring a bell while declaring your space cleared. If you wish, you can incorporate sound cleansing into a broader cleansing practice I use a rattle it traditional, but you can add smoke cleansing with incense, or burning a cleansing candle.
The clear, healing tone of a bell can have a few different effects. The bell's vibrations can help banish unwanted spirits and/or negative energies, with prayer (don't forget that) it can call in positively, desired energetic influences, and/or simply clear stagnant energy in any space throughout one’s home. Sound affects energy on a physical level—because sound is energy—and so the bell is both a physical and a symbolic tool in any practice.
How To Use To Cleanse: Ring it at least four times in each room, preferably with the doors and windows open and while burning cleansing incense. If you are not able to burn things where you live, then a bell can be a great solution for energy cleansing without smoke or fire.
Driving Away Evil: Evil spirits are said to hate -- or at least be annoyed by -- the sound of a bell just like they hate the sound of a rattle. This may go back as far as to the belief that spirits. (the malevolent ones) hate iron.
(This is actually true) When bells were made of iron, ringing them would drive evil out of an area. In other traditions, any kind of loud sound was believed to chase away dark forces. Simply ringing a bell loudly is enough to drive some bad spirits away, but don't get it wrong as I mentioned in a previous post this won't rid you if demonic or bad spirits or high level dark energies by it self prayer is important.
You can also use other tools like blessed candles dressed in holy oil, a room spray, or floor wash (see post on that) alongside with a bell or a preferred instrument. Give your floors a good wash from the back of your home to the front with the floor wash, you can use a spray in each room of your home, you can add a blessed can light. As you do these things pray, say a prayer while ringing your bell while declaring that all bad spirits and or energies must leave. You can also call a ordained person to do the prayer then you can go back with a bell and incense to rid the remanding energies.
Attracting Good Energies: Sounds of an instrument like a bells have a reputation for attracting helpful, benevolent spirits and energies. You can hang also hang them up like wind chimes, add colorful beads to to represent a particular spirit. There are so many ways to incorporate a bell into your practice.
Invoking Spirits: Bells often used in spiritual work. They can be helpful for all kinds of spirits, including calling them. Like your spirit guides, your ansestors, saints, deities etc can be called with a bell to aid you in your work. In these situations, a bell serve three purposes: Their sound tells spirits when it is time to arrive and depart, marks the beginning and end of specific phases of a ritual, and ensures that you are getting helpful spirits, not bad ones.
In the case of ritual work a bell is used durning repeating a chant or a prayer or to request and call upon a spirit, followed by a few rings of a bell. Even if you are not following a specific, format, you can simply use your bell when it makes sense to you. You don't need a large bell for this -- a small one will do just fine.
Protection: Since: bells are so good at driving off evil, they can also keep it away if you use them preventatively. You can also use a bell while calling on angelic protection. For instance you can choose a Saint Michael for protection take you bell, and ring it while reciting a prayer to Saint Michael for protection.
Opening And Closing Of A Ritual: Rituals are usually structured in very specific ways. The atmosphere of the ritual is designed to be a kind of container for spiritual energy. The vibrations opens the way, It puts you in another state of consciousness for your spiritual work. Ringing bells is a good way to mark the beginning of a ritual, as well as send energy on its way at the end. You can do this with any kind of bell. All you need to do is set aside a few seconds during your rituals to ring it and say a prayer call on your guides for protection. Then start your ritual whether it's calling a saint, deity or ansestors. So if you do not have a bell in your home, it is a great spiritual tool to investing in.

Now that my emotions have settled and I’m more levelheaded- though I unfortunately don’t own a physical copy of the book to reference back to- I want to discuss why I think Bree’s root, being at Volition, her screaming at Vera-the hole and most importantly her cutting off contact with her ancestors and on a “lesser” scale denouncing Arthur. Anyways I wish I could re experience that moment when she screamed after Vera and broke through Volition’s barrier with her power surge.
The way I see it Bree doesn’t truly hold any negative feelings toward Vera but her frustrations were warranted. One daughter at a time for all time meant that while Vera was able to save her child (in a sense) she made her line just that- a line. The line of Vera is essentially a cord that will always snap on itself before restarting; there are no aunties, uncles, cousins, etc. The trauma Vera held being a slave is one that Bree will never understand-which she did acknowledge- but Vera didn’t have to face what her daughter, granddaughter and future ascendants had to afterwards. Because not only were they blood marked but also scions of Arthur (side note: Erebus was playing chess not checkers) which most didn’t even know about. I especially think of Jessie who tried the most to learn her powers but the fear of the Shadow man was practically debilitating. And then there’s how young a lot of them would’ve died- like we know Faye went to college and had a career so from the moment she became pregnant her life was on a time limit and she fortunately got 16 years to raise her daughter and be a wife and mother and Bree’s not having babies anytime soon on her journey to learning her powers so she’s safe but one of the ancestors didn’t even get to meet her daughter.
And as drastic as it may have seemed, Bree did exhaust all her options and the only thing left that would’ve connected her with her ancestors is their fear which would’ve hindered her especially now that she left with the Hunter-Erebus. And one of the main critics I see on Goodreads is that Bree didn’t care about her Root work or the community which is such an odd thought process, especially when she was always working with those powers just as much as Arthur’s- hell even more because it’s were her abilities as a medium and immunity to mesmer came from it’s just that her Root was only for defense making it harder for her to use. She cut her connection because there was nothing left that could be offered to her just like she cut her connection to Arthur because there was nothing left she’d get from him (besides he tricked her). I think the short stay at Volition despite how it ended was needed to truly demonstrate how much power Bree had within her from both sides of her lineage-which is really just one side because her ancestors were scions as well.
I think the best way I can think of it; Volition as a place for the descendants of the enslaved specifically root crafters was still such a separate thing from Bree’s power because we’re constantly told that blood crafted is a demonized power combine with how the Order does things with their oaths and ancestor lineages-taking/keeping instead of offering/borrowing the powers Bree had was always in some sort of contrast with other root crafters like Mariah and Patricia
Final point Bree had to distant herself from everything because as a median she was always in risk of possession and if she couldn’t properly put a lid on that while she’s going through training she’d probably get possessed again. Though I think between this and her Root work I’m excited to see where the story goes with her training

A History of Traditional Root Healing (ENCORE)
A History of Traditional Root Healing (ENCORE)
In some parts of the world, traditional herbal remedies are the norm.  When we  think of natural remedies we tend to think of older generations living in remote areas, in far away  countries,  with little access to modern healthcare.  We rarely think about the ancient medicinal plants that might exist in our very own cities. On today’s episode we look at plant and herb medicines through the lens…

The maths fandom is wild. “Real” and “imaginary” numbers? I think you mean canon and non-canon. You guys seriously go “this is my number oc his name is i and he is the square root of -1” when in numbers canon lore it’s actually impossible to square root a negative but sure whatever. “Complex numbers”? I think you mean a character x oc ship. “f(x) = 3x - 5”? That is self-insert fanfiction.

How To Use Saint Expedite In Your Hoodoo Spell for Fast Results.
Tumblr media
Now if you follow me you know that hoodoo doesn't have saints root workers in hoodoo were prodasion not Catholics. But there is nothing wrong with useing them just dont put them on your hoodoo altar keep them separated.
Saint Expedite is one of the more favable saints to petition when a situation gets tough. He works quickly.
St. Expedite in Voodoo and Hoodoo: For some Haitians who practice Vodou and even Voodoo in some parts of Louisiana St. Expedite is often been associated with the Baron, "Baron Semedi" to “Baron La Croix” They are Lwa spirit's of death, he reminds us that life is meant to be enjoyed. In New Orleans voodoo St. Expedite is not associated to Baron Samedi/ Papa Gede. But like St. Expedite he works well for speedy progress for anything that feels blocked. When it comes to a working, Saint Expedite is frequently petitioned as he is known for bringing luck quickly. He is also known to aid in gambling. He is a fantastic Saint to work with when one finds themselves in a bind.
Need to know: You should only petition him when you really NEED what you're requesting. Don't petition Saint Expedite for things that would be nice to have, or things that you want. Petition him when the going gets tough and you have no other options is what best. Same goes for the Baron only for dire need.
Feast Dates: On April 19th, we celebrated the feast day of Saint Expedite.
Papa Gede feast day is November 2nd or All Souls’ Day.
Payment Offering: You must make a deal with Saint Expedite as part of the petition. Ask clearly for what you need, meaning if you petition him and promise him something for his help you must and should pay him that with his offering. He likes a piece of pound cake and a glass of water along with some flowers. (Do not pay him before the work is done - only afterward)
How I typically petition Saint Expedite: Take a red candle or glass candle if preferred.
Gede's colors are red, yellow, green, purple, black, or white.
I would rub Holy Oil, or used St Expedite oil around the wick. But you can poke three holes in the wax then put one drop of Saint Expedite Oil in each hole. I write down what I need in detail on petition paper.
Dab a little Saint Expedite on the four corners and center of the paper. Fold the corners. Place this under the dressed candle by your Saint Expedite statue or photo.
Then pray.
Prayer of Saint Expedite for Fast Results:
Saint Expedite, faithful and hard-working servant of our Lord Jesus Christ hear my plea. I come to you humbled and desperate, seeking your divine intercession on my behalf. You who have fought many righteous battles and know the pain of hard labor, help me in my hour of need.
I seek __________________________, for the best of all those involved.
I pray to you, divine servant of God that you assist me now. I offer you your due wages of a piece of pound cake, a glass of water and flowers in thanks once you have assisted me. With gratitude and humble thanks, in Jesus' name I pray. Amen!"
Let that candle burn all the way down. You can repeat this prayer every day until it has come to pass. Once the candle has burned out if you want to repeat the candle burning and prayers you certainly can but it is not necessary.
I can wear Saint Expedite Oil by dabbing a bit on the bottoms of my feet, on your wrists or behind each ear.
Paying Saint Expedite: Once Saint Expedite comes through with your request, give him his Offering.
If your calling apon Papa Gede his offering is food, candles, coffee, and gin.
Consider working with Papa Gede when you need help speeding up a process, are working towards a goal, if you feel progress is too slow, and are tired of waiting. If your Gede can help you get it moving in a positive direction. Papa Gede can bring movement and progress in situations that have stalled for weeks, months, or even years.
Petitioning Gede: When working with Gede, you will need to obtain a statue or an image of Saint Expedite and put it in a corner on the floor are your altar with his veve. To petition him, you would use a 7-day candle, depending on your situation a oil lamp is good You can give a small offering while he is working your case. When your case is resolved and you have received your results, you should give his offering very soon after. Since you experienced fast results, you should give him his offering just as quickly, unless you promised it on a certain day.
You can leave offerings on his altar for three, seven, or nine days. When the offering is finished, you can leave it in a crossroads or cemetery.
Remember the vodou spirit and the Saint are different if you plain on asking Gede for something do it with as much respect as you would a saint. You are or can be a devotee to him you can't do a lot with out knowing how to and that comes with being initiated..
