@peregrineggsandham
Sound off for trans guys who straight-up named themselves after Tobias. (I cannot be the only one.) Those books were integral to my understanding of the world as a kid+teen, and that character... jeez.
Whaaaaaaat. That is next-level AMAZING. I love it.

Different anon: I don't even think Mofftiss were necessarily high on their own farts, I think TFP and a lot of S4 were actual genuine malice on their parts towards the fandom for...liking the thing they made so much, I guess. It just made such a *mockery* of so many important things. The Redbeard retcon is one I'm deeply bitter about as a dog person who identifies with Sherlock; their desire to act like "magic madwoman in an attic" is a groundbreaking concept that Eyre didn't already do WAY BETTER AND LESS SEXIST; the "ha ha John was going to cheat with the GIRL Holmes"; the "you identify with these men and their story? haha who you are doesn't matter". Never mind the nonsensical writing choices, even. It just seems so outright *nasty* and calculated to be cruel when one knows how aware of the fandom they were. I can't give them enough competence credit to believe they could pull off any of the S4 Wasn't Real type theories, but god, thank god for the fandom pretty much discarding the series.
Anyway, the show ended with TAB in my heart, and we'll always have Apple Tree Hill or whatever that other show was called...
(referencing this post)
Ah, yes, EXACTLY, I think you've kind of summed up my feelings on the matter... I still remain... 10%?... hopeful that they really did fuck up the season on purpose because it's meant to be fake, but yeah, it's REALLY hard for me to not see it as anything other than pettiness towards a fandom that "guessed" the plot to TAB,, so in retaliation made S4 SO wacky, thinking that it's BAD writing if people can figure out where it's going (hint: it's NOT) so instead just eff it all up for the sake of a Shyamalan Twist. I agree with you with how cruel and nasty it feels looking at it that way.
LOL Yeah, TAB was sort of the end for me as well... I love TAB and my blog wouldn't be where it is today without TAB, so I have a soft spot in my heart for it. AND LOL APPLE TREE HILL wow what a time that was oof.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Nonny <3

@heimlichbourger said: Now this is my jam, starting from the ground up
I'm afraid you'll be terribly disappointed at my lack of rigor! This isn't a test of time or BACC or prosperity challenge, or anything structured. I make no attempt to make sense, and change the guidelines on a whim depending on what's working for me and what's not.
It's gotten me my first really good fishermen, and I'm finding out what the higher-level crops are in the custom garden plots I've acquired, and I've become acutely aware of how short the vanilla adult lifespans are. Also, I think the genes are mixing really well, though I say it as shouldn't.

What are dead man walking tornadoes? :O
it’s a multi-vortex tornado. i dont remember the tribe it originates from (i think it was cherokee), but there’s a native american legend…? saying? that goes “if you see a man in a tornado, you are about to die.”
Tumblr media
the most infamous shot of a dead man walking tornado hit jarrell, texas in 1997
Tumblr media
it did so much damage to the town it caused the scale that tornados are measured by, the fijita scale, undergo revisions, and it made anchoring buildings in the tornado alley region pretty much mandatory. (it took the entire town off the map. only those who had taken shelter outside of the town or in underground bunkers survived.)
two more examples of dead man walking tornadoes looking like a person are a tornado from 2011 that hit cullman, alabama
Tumblr media
and a tornado from 1975 that hit xenia, ohio
Tumblr media
edit: it has been brought to my attention that the native american “legend” part of this post was a rumor spread by a documentary.
i have been asked to remove it, but i believe in letting my errors stand because i’m not perfect. i make mistakes

Loving reminder from your land history auntie:
North American golf courses have had 50-100 years of arsenic and mercury based fungicide and herbicides applied to their soils.
Do not eat anything that has been grown on a golf course or downstream from a golf course. I know it sounds cool and radical, but you are too valuable to poison yourself with heavy metals.
Protect each other, turn your local golf course into a pollinator garden, not a sex forest or community garden.

Maybe Jake is average but crumbles under pressure. The basketball tryouts are the biggest thing of his life to date and he can’t handle it
So true.  Because that’s part of the point of Jake, that he’s the least talented guy on this untalented team while also excelling at meeting the challenges thrown his way.  He says his talents lie in basketball and video games — only he can’t make his junior high team as an eighth-grader, and regularly loses at video games to a less-experienced Marco.  That’s not to say he remains that untalented throughout the series; 10 pages later he’s insta-coordinating how he and his friends can maximize their ability to escape a horde of controllers, while running from said controllers.  100 pages after that and he’s directing battle strategy based on a combination of paying attention and winging it.
Anyway, what if he’s getting screwed by the Yerkes (no relation) Dodson Curve?
Tumblr media
He’s just wildly mis-calibrated to how hard he should be trying to get on the basketball team, because it’s the hardest thing he’s ever tried to do so far.  This kid thinks he’s “invincible” (#4) and climbs construction cranes for fun (#1).
As @derinthescarletpescatarian and @andalitean put it: “Jake is the plain mashed potato of the Animorphs.”/ “He isn’t even mashed at first he’s just a boiled potato (the trauma is what mashes him)” (X).  Which is the perfect description of Jake.  He does rise to the occasion, but his actual superpowers are confidence, fast reaction time, faking ‘til you make it, and following the little rules so that no one notices you breaking the big ones.  And at first, that confidence is the kind that comes from the assumption nothing really bad will ever happen to him because nothing ever has.  He has to take a lot of hard knocks before he properly understands when to dig in and when to quit.

Hii! <3
Me there, since I last asked about getting ungettable fanfics in paper.
Update is that I accidentally found a bit time today and dived into the topic like I always do things: try and fail until you get it right. I know you mentioned something about "just putting it into Word and printing it out like...", but since I almost never work on computers, I felt bit helpless.
So, first I tried on a laptop, but Word there had for some reason no option to add columns, which made me move to the good old phone.
After copying the text to the document, I edited it a bit (deleting double "enter"s, font, size, underlined words etc). That's when it got tougher, because, well, pages.
I made a little model to help me visualise it:
Tumblr media
And there came the looong part of organising it all up, but like I said- tries and fails. I figured out two important tips:
1. on every column add a highlighted page number.
And 2. Mark first and last word of the page in different colours.
It helped me a LOT and I might've hadn't managed it without. There's how it looks like:
Tumblr media
After that just un-highlighted them and it's just like that:
Tumblr media
I still have to get the numbers in control, but apart from that, it's ready for printing! Just gotta remember that every page is double-sided, so the printing has to be... brained.
Dunno if anyone needed this, but thought I'll share anyway. This fic is Coup De Foudre by prettysailorsoldier if anybody was wondering. There are longer ones I wanted out, but decided to take it easy for the first one.
All the love! <3

Hi Lovely!
AHHHHHHH!!! I LOVE when you guys share your processes with me!! Thank you so much for this, hahah! The way you did it is actually a print setting in most Word-type applications... on Macs it’s called “print double sided spreads” or something like that, so it will print across a full sheet. LOL AHH I can’t explain it because it’s one of those “natural” things I know because of my job as a graphic designer, but yeah, when we do larger 16 page pubs, trying to remember how a layout will print is annoying LOL. InDesign makes it a LOT easier, heh.
Thank you so much for sharing your process, and here’s the fic you referenced above:
Coup de Foudre by prettysailorsoldier (T, 6,446 w., 1 Ch. || Teenager/University AU || Alternate First Meeting, Skiing, Winter, Sherlock Speaks French, Christmas Fluff) – When John and his friends decide to blow off some steam after finals with a holiday to the Swiss Alps, he's expecting a week of roaring fires, hot chocolate, and snow as far as the eye can see. He is not expecting to fall head over heels for a fellow guest--a young Frenchman known only as "Blue Scarf"--but John's not one to let a little language barrier get in the way, and, with the help of Google Translate, it might just be a Christmas to remember after all. Part 7 of 25 Days of Johnlock
Cheers again for following up!!! <3

unexpected-tigers asked:
I have googled to no avail, please explain the beery setups thing?
The proper phrase is "beer and set ups," which wouldn't have helped - I just tried and got nothing. Maybe they don't do this anymore. But here's how it was:
In a dry county, liquor can only be sold in "private clubs," which is usually circumvented these days by calling a cover charge "buying a one-night membership." But not every bar is a place you'd pay a cover charge to get into, and some counties are semi-dry, in that you can buy beer, but nothing harder. So there'd be places called "ice houses," combination pool rooms/convenience stores, which advertised "beer and set-ups," so you'd know you had the right kind of ice house. They'd sell you a beer and a "set-up," which was a tumbler of ice and maybe a lime wedge, or if you asked you could get the non-alcoholic mixers for things like rum and Coke, and you poured your own liquor into it out of the bottle you'd brought with you. How you obtained the bottle was your business - clearly not from these nice ice-house people with no liquor license.
You obtained the bottles, mostly, from the liquor stores at any border shared by a dry or semi-dry county and a wet county, which border was also a hotbed of DWI arrests and alcohol-related traffic accidents. Or maybe you distilled it yourself for private consumption. Prohibition really doesn't work, but it makes some people feel virtuous to vote for it, I guess. San Antonio's been wet for most of the time since I moved here, but there's still a few old ice houses around with the faded words "Beer and Set-ups" stenciled onto the stucco, and there used to be more when I got here in the late 70s.
Now that I think of it, those ice houses were the alcoholic brethren of head shops, where you can buy all the accoutrements of marijuana use, but not the marijuana. Presumably with the increased legality of marijuana these will also gradually fade away.

No, actually I will never be over Annabeth throwing her knife into the ocean hoping Percy will notice and come help only to have Percy, king among boyfriends, make the most dramatic ass entrance, knocking out attackers with a giant wave, ocean waves cascading behind him as he casually walks up onto the beach to Annabeth, hands her her knife and says “I think you dropped this.” Fucking legend.
