Working on a miniature marotte head for my jester costume for this year’s renn faire….I’m going once as a fool & once with my old heretical monk costume with some more distressing and detail. This jester costume is going to be a lot of sewing and sprucing up old goodwill picks, adding felt, all that stuff. Lots of bells, I’m excited

!!PSA!! if you are camping in Pinal county/gold canyon for the Arizona ren faire: If you are on state land, a $25 permit is required. Arizona State land camping permits are only good for 14 days out of the year. Period. Not 14 days in one spot. 14 days in one year. Also please, don't 👏 cut 👏 state 👏 fences 👏. Its liable to cause a traffic accident involving livestock which nobody wants. You may be thinking: "why that would never be me". I'm not calling out anyone in specific, but you'd be surprised at how much this happens with the Rennie people. Respect the land, you earn a local's respect.

Edit: also, scout around your campsite. There is absolutely no camping within a quarter of a mile of a major water source for livestock and wildlife. This applies to areas on the other side of a fence. It doesn't matter if there is something between you and the water source. A quarter of a mile is a quarter of a mile.

The Gentlethem Pirate Final Look

I forgot to take most of the process pictures of the pants. Oops. Fairly standard with inseam pockets and a elastic back (I know it's not period but the kid's still growing).

Started with this burgundy linen blend that Joanns claims is purple. Cut to capri length with pockets. Screwed up the first pair because I drafted and cut them on the wrong grain and misremembered how much of my junk in the trunk the kid inherited. So I had to go back to the store for more.

Second time was much more successful. Stiffened the front waist with leftover duck from the stays and ran elastic through the back and hems.

And I'm done with their costume. Now to sort mine.

it was pirate weekend at the ren faire last weekend, so here’s me and my brother as Nami and cabin-boy Shanks :) (faces redacted for privacy lol)

also shoutout to the other one piece cosplayers we saw, including:

- somebody in a full Franky bodysuit in like 90 degree (F) heat

- vice-admiral Garp, (at pirate weekend) complete with dog hat

- some guy who might have been Mihawk but also might have just been wearing a black hat with a feather and a cross necklace??

and last but certainly not least:

- a tiny little Luffy who barely came up to my hip when we took a picture together, did the iconic Shanks + Luffy pose with my brother, and when I saw him later in the day I heard his dad say “look, there’s Nami!” and he waved at me… it was so cute I literally almost cried 😭
