Catching Stardust
For ages, I've wanted to do a piece with stardust and something reflecting in a character's eye. So glad it turned out so well! If this looks familiar, this used to be one of the sketches in my Skirby Doodles, I posted a while ago.
(Purple-eyed Skirby goes so hard! And it fits the limited colour palette, so I'm happy)
Tumblr media
A close-up from Skirby. I wanted to isolate it in a circle, and my brain went haywire, and now we have this. Sacred Mirror, love ya. (I played the Amazing Mirror, and I enjoyed it a lot! Even if traversing the Mirror World can be quite confusing at times)

Clockwork sent Danny back in time, a few hundred years. Then he told him to take a nap.
He swore that the ritual chamber he'd transported Danny to was isolated, and that Danny wouldn't age.
But good goddamn, Danny needed some sleep. The kid is a baby ghost, and they're supposed to spend years forming.
With how powerful Danny is?
He's going to seriously stunt his growth if he doesn't go the fuck to sleep.
Dani can just sleep whenever she wants at Clockwork's place, but Danny can't take the rest he needs or he'll skip his entire mortal life. So; the timeless chamber for sleep.
And Danny...Danny's fucking tired.
Sleep sounds fantastic. He'll wake up in a few hundred years and feel refreshed.
Sounds great.
The chamber siphons ectoplasm from the surrounding areas, feeding his ghost half, which keeps his human half alive and fine.
It also radiates Realms energy, which can make any human who gets too close for too long a little insane.
Gotham is built on top of that chamber.
That chamber powers every single curse in Gotham.
Clockwork didn't tell Danny this, of course; but Danny's length of necessary sleep depended on how much Ecto his developing core got it's hands on, and normally it would have only been a one hundred year nap.
The curses siphoning off of it made it three hundred or so.
So when Danny finally wakes up, and the protections drop, he lets out a biiiiig stretch, yawns-and goes home. He feels rested! Awake! He finally got some fucking sleep!
Meanwhile, every single curse in Gotham breaks, all at once.
At the same time, the excess Ecto that the citizens of Gotham had been having leeched off of them? Suddenly it's staying with them, and their Liminality breaks through overnight.
It's chaos.

Love that Oppenheimer is a deeply disturbing horror movie about a man forced to accept that he is, in a person, the representative manifestation of mankind’s evil in committing one of the greatest horrors of human history - LITERALLY acting as the modern Prometheus, tormented by his sins for the remainder of time. Knowing that he will never be pitied and his actions will forever be utterly unforgivable because the blood of genocide and the potential of total human annihilation will eternally drip from his hands.
But also the simultaneous indictment by the film that to blame a single person for the Manhattan Project is to refuse to accept your own capacity for great evil if the ends ever seem to justify the means, and the culpability of every member of a species that lets itself create something so unspeakably terrible.
Hate that twitter’s take on such a nuanced and brilliantly handled examination of those issues is “movie bad because protagonist not evil enough.”

Prompt 41
Hear me out, DP and DC crossover where Scarecrow is cousins with the Fentons.
His mother was siblings with Jack’s father, and both Jazz and Danny met ‘Uncle Jonathan’ during one of the many Fenton-Nightingale family reunions that happens every few years. Honestly, perhaps it’s what gets Jazz interested in psychology, hearing from her ‘uncle’ about fear and its effects.
And honestly once they start having to deal with ghosts and having had to deal with their parents for years it’s not really hard to talk with their uncle. Crane still doesn’t know how he became these kids’ favorite uncle, or even all of the family kids’ favorite uncle-cousin, but that’s just how the family is.
Really he’s not even the only villain of the family, with both Jack and Maddie being close but not quite, even if they’re definitely mad scientists. Their son becoming a local hero, even if they’re not aware of that fact, is just ironic.
John knows. The two kids told him when they found out that Danny may or may not need to feed on fear now that he’s half ghost, and well he’s the specialist about the emotion so…
At least they have someone to stay with when Jazz goes to Gotham university and brings Danny with her, even if the local vigilantes are concerned as to why Scarecrow attacks have suddenly took a nosedive…

An interesting “side effect” of the canonization of the “classic era” meaning “younger era” is that the classic era now reads as “cute fun times” before the core cast became teenagers/tweens and things got super, super complicated.
Because the characters are “younger,” there’s an air of “little rascal innocence” to everything they do now. The new releases like Mania and Superstars now feel like little throwbacks to the young heroes just learning how to work together and make a difference in the world.
I don’t think this is a bad thing at all.
