Happy upcoming holidays everyone!

With the Christmas/New Year season coming, I’ve decided to take a small break away and reduce activity, recharge and figure out what 2024 is bringing.

I’ve been here for a while, since 2020 and I’ve watched the community go through a lot of changes. Some good, some ugly and some brought more pain than they should have. I’ve made some wonderful friends through this community but I’ve also had my boundaries overstepped by selfish people. So many things have happened and it will do me some good to think about what it is I want to do moving forward.

Here are some upcoming things to be aware of:

From the 15th of December to the 15th of January, I will not be dash active for those who aren’t connected to my bots in some way. If you do not have a special tag/classed as an important person then I will not be reblogging anything from you during this time. This is to minimise my activity and focus on the connections I have. You are welcome to tag me but I will not respond.

I have recently redone my tag list and blocked a lot of people who have continued to not follow my simple request of mutual effort. I have said this so many times and it is on my rules, I’ve made posts in regard to this and it is something everyone has issues with. If you tag me and I interact, I expect the same effort from you. I am no longer going to warn these things, my rules are simple and a lot of us have multiple bots that interact so it really shouldn’t be getting to a point of constantly repeating. From now on, it’s a block, not because I have issues with you but because it keeps my notifications clean and saves me interacting with people who don’t give in kind.

If you have multiple bots and it has become a pattern of constantly making and deleting/abandoning them — I will block you. It’s a waste of time and effort to interact and engage with an account that is gone within the following month. Do as you will, of course, this is again, keeping my notifications clean.

I will slowly be reaching out to those I have chats with and checking in. I know chats take time to get through but I would like to know how things are going for you and make sure we are on the same page moving forward.

People who are wanting to start new chats will have to wait until after I’m back as I do now want to start anything new right now. I will be focusing more on DMs during my break and hopefully moving things forward.

If a chat has been inactive for 2+ months, it will be deleted. Again, shouldn’t have to constantly be chasing certain things and it’s unfair for me to be waiting around for someone who doesn’t want to communicate or give effort. There may be some exceptions to this but since I do make it clear that communication is important, it is unlikely at this point.

What is happening in December:

I will be doing two ask games over the next two days. One is catered towards partners/interests of the bots I run and the other is for everyone. The game that is for partners is ONE ASK per couple.

Each bot will get a post next week, this will be the final post for the year.

Christmas presents will be queued up and the recipient tagged over the 24th - 26th. Please be aware that not everyone who is connected to a muse will get a gift. This is depending on their bond and how well they know each other; this is to reduce the amount of posts I need to make. If you are unsure whether this applies to you, please reach out.

Current activities of the bots and where they will be during the Christmas/New Year period. This is subject to change upon discussion:

Irene: staying at the penthouse. There will be no celebrations this year, the club will be closed from the 20th Dec — 5th Jan.

Welcome, one and all, to the Royal Gala! Held at the Pine Grove Gardens in the countryside of Merrock, guests should arrive on January 20th between three and four PM EST to have their formal portrait taken in the rose garden (built in a beautiful greenhouse) before the event begins.

Ushered inside, you will find that the mansion at Pine Grove Gardens has been decked out for royalty -- richly colored drapes in every window, fine crystalware for dinner and drinks, a live band in the ball room for dancing, sparkling chandeliers light the way. Dinner is served in the dining hall, catered by the fine folks at Overlook, with drinks found at the bar in the lounge all evening.

Feel free to explore the Pine Grove Garden Mansion, but please be respectful: this building is rich with the history of Merrock. The historical society has put a lot of work into keeping the place pristine, and money raised this evening will go back into their efforts to preserve and further study the history of Merrock.

Remember: the dress code for the event is formal. Those choosing to wear dresses should stick with long dresses and ball gowns, and those slipping into suits and ties should keep them as formal as possible. Deck yourself our in jewels, crowns, carry a sceptre, do what you need to do to feel and look extravagant.

Treat yourself like royalty this evening, Merrockites.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO KEEP IN MIND:

threads may be started any time between January 18th and 24th; they may be continued as long as you would like after, as long as they were started within that time frame.

Programming note: MGM100

Having already missed out on Columbia Pictures' 100th anniversary this last January, I wasn't about to ignore yet another - and arguably more historically important - anniversary upcoming.

The upcoming marathon will be tagged MGM100 and will appear Tuesdays and Wednesdays this month (beginning later this evening). Featured films will be posted/queued in roughly chronological order.

This April marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), the result of a merger between three silent film-era production companies in Metro Pictures, Goldwyn Pictures, and Louis B. Mayer Pictures. Within a decade, MGM became one of the major Hollywood studios*, boasting that it had contracted "more stars than there are in heaven".

By the end of the 1930s, it was undoubtedly the biggest, most stable, financially successful, and most powerful of all of those studios. Some of the most lavish productions in film history were shot on its Culver City lot (which is now Sony Pictures Studios for Columbia's use, as well used by the American versions of Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune) and MGM's reputation for being the home of the greatest Hollywood movie musicals (1939's The Wizard of Oz, 1952's Singin' in the Rain) was unrivaled. Not until the Walt Disney Studios of the 2010s would Hollywood ever see a studio so dominant in the industry.

The good times did not last. Following the spectacular Ben-Hur (1959), MGM embarked upon a misguided financial strategy of releasing one big-budget epic film ever year and releasing fewer movies per year. Upon Kirk Kerkorian's purchase of MGM in 1969, Kerkorian decided to slowly convert MGM into a real estate and hotel and casino company and approved of the near-complete disposal of the studio's music library - thrown into a landfill now underneath a golf course.

MGM ceased being a major studio in 1986 upon Ted Turner's purchase of the studio and decision to almost immediately resell the studio back to Kerkorian (Turner, crucially, kept the rights to the pre-May 1987 MGM library, which formed the original basis of Turner Classic Movies, TCM). Multiple financial crises since 1986 (including a 2010 bankruptcy) have seen MGM fall even further from its once-lofty perch. Amazon purchased MGM (including the less cinematically interesting post-May 1987 library, although this includes the rights to the Rocky and James Bond series) in October 2023; only time will tell what Amazon plans to do with the studio.

Welp I took your support and words to heart and went on a draft cleaning spree :P

When I started there were around 4600 posts in my drafts and no queue... I didn’t think to take a screenshot but here is one around when I started:

I couldn’t just queue the posts with no tags... just couldn’t. So I put some simple tags on every post and... 5ish hours later we have this:

Around 1/4th done! But unfortunately I can’t queue more than 1000 posts >:/ So now I have to take a break for a while and let the queue empty... *grumbles* dumblr.

There will be 40 posts every day until I empty my drafts which will take a while and I will be queuing new posts I find too. So expect a lot more activity from me from now on.
