Once again being annoying about a journey to love on the TL:

I think one reason why I still cannot get over AJTL is because!! of how beautifully and realistically it portrays the relationships between characters, and more importantly, it does not outright shove the main pairing into our faces. their relationship took time to develop which made it more realistic imo, and is a nice contrast to a lot of shows these days that seem to have characters falling in love in the span of two episodes.

(I've made a tl;dr a while ago here)

Episode 7

As in- the main couple is shown quite a bit, yes. They get their fair share of screentime, but the drama also focuses on the friendships between the liudaotang squad, the sibling dynamics between NYZ and YY and how it parallels with RRY and LTG.

It really highlights the different kinds of love that one person can have in this life, like the platonic love between YSS and NYZ (imo), the familial love between YL and NYZ, the romantic love between RRY and NYZ, all of it really balances out and i love that.

Then there is also the fked up obsessive love that LTG has for RRY, and the drama shows that you can still recover from that (we are ignoring ep 37 here), it shows that you can still move on from that and grow from there- you may not necessarily forget them and that is okay.

Episode 26, 36 "my master is the only woman I'll ever love."

Then theres also the love for the country, embodied by how LTG and YY entered a loveless marriage for the sake of their countries (ep 37), and for the sake of protecting what their loved ones are fighting (and died) for.

It is also, arguably, shown by how Qian Zhao died to save the King's life for the sake of maintaining peace in Wu, even though his entire objective was to kill the King.

Another thing I really liked was the emphasis they gave to Yang Ying's relationships, her attempts at finding love and the way they validate her feelings about it- she had just realised how much of a scumbag Zheng Qingyun is, eventually moved on to slowly having feelings for Yuan Lu, but entered a political marriage with Li Tongguang in the end- and she's still so young.

"As long as you gave a clear conscience, even if a woman has only loved one person, or loved multiple people in her life, she still deserves respect"

(Lastly, there's Yu Shisan who's like. the embodiment of love in this drama- not just because of his flirtatious nature, but its in those small scenes that really shows how deeply he loves.

There's the start of the show, where he volunteers to take the punishment in Yang Ying's steed (ep 6),

then there's the episode where NYZ clarifies to Ruyi that it's because YSS is too worried that he is acting indifferent (ep 8). Then there's all the scenes where he periodically checks up on NYZ (ep 10, 31, etc), his concern for Ruyi putting all her eggs in one basket (ep 20ish), the talk between him and JMN where she admits that YSS treated her well (ep 30).

And then there's his death. There's this wonderful post that has been haunting me for months. How do you save Yu Shisan, when half the people he loves is dead? How do you save him when, even if he survives, would not allow himself the love that he gives away so freely? (see: first half of episode 39)).

Just know that this show has me feral over it's brilliant writing. They got me from the very beginning when they portrayed NYZ's emotional intelligence and acceptance of RRY and his consideration for her. (and when they introduced Yuan Lu. I went: that's my blorbo from this show).

Damn...I just finished My Journey to You...and I did not expect to binge this fucker in 3 days. I didn't even expect to like it at all. But jokes on me because I fucking loved it.

It gave me everything: assassins, plot twists, gorgeous cinematography, gorgeous sets, gorgeous costumes, fucking good characters, a bomb ass OST...the full fucking package man.

But yeah, like I said, I wasn't expecting to love it as much as I did. It's a romance drama so I'm kind of meh/wary of them but the romance really wasn't all in your face and it focused more on the characters and their growth and just...everything.

Also, shout out to Hanya Si for being exactly who I thought he was. You didn't fucking let me down, my guy. You did exactly what I wanted you to and that was to protect Yun Weishan. Because that's your fucking baby. That's your fucking kid. Not Wufeng's.

And bruh, I haven't cried this fucking hard since I first watched Killer and Healer. Full on fucking sobbing at 3 am. Like excuse me, the fuck, how did you do that? No drama has made me cry/sob since Killer and Healer and by that feat alone this drama gets a fucking high score for me.

But also, I need either like...a bonus episode or something because whyyyyyyy does SHANGGUAN QIAN of all fucking people get to have a fucking happy ending but YUN WEISHAN DOESN'T? Explain that shit to me! Yun Weishan went through more hardships than SGQ! It's not fair! My babygirl deserved her happy ending! FUCK

Anyways, 10/10 drama, highly recommend, fuck now I'm going to listen to the OST to soothe my soul

Kurosawa and Adachi (Cherry Magic)

I think this should be self explanatory. Best boys in the whole wide world i'd die and kill for them. The softest and sweetest and they deserve everything and more.

Kang Seojoon (To My Star)

No you don't understand I love him. TMS2 nearly killed me because I couldn't handle seeing him in so much pain. He tries so so hard and is going through so much and I want to fight all his problems for him, yes even when his problems are his love interest. He can share this spot with his manager, who I would also throw hands for.

That and Sorn (Manner of Death)

Another duo MY LITTLE MUPPET BABIES!!!!! When I watched MoD there wasn't really much else in its genre and tone to compare to, so I was genuinely concerned for my grumpy/sunshine teens' safety. It made for a very stressful experience because THEY'RE JUST BABIES LEAVE THEM ALONE

Li Qian (Guardian)

I know this list says BL boys but That Won't Stop Me. Li Qian is my bestest girl and though I would throw hands for most all of the characters in Guardian I think she takes the top spot. I will protect her from anything including her shitty employers and the dean of the university (he is the real villain of the series fight me) and then i'll support her while she does her important post-canon work of [redacted for spoilers]. I love her.

Wen (Moonlight Chicken)

Okay MLC didn't blow me away by any means but I love characters who are a bit of a mess and are complicated and make mistakes and fuck up and aaaAAAAAAAAAA--

Togawa (Old Fashion Cupcake)

You ever want to fuck that old man so bad that you catapult yourself into pathetic meow meow territory?

Wen Ning (The Untamed)

Another self explanatory one. He does not need my help throwing hands but by god I will. You cannot stop me.

Pfrh (Knyyrnprisn)

I debated putting Pete (or anyone from KP) on this list because they can all take care of themselves. But then I thought, I would kill for him though. I would do cold blooded murder on his behalf. I would not even hesitate. So here he is.

The Starry Love ep 17, 18 thoughts

What could have been a 'sneak into the heavenly realm' quest has now turned into yet another opportunity for Yetan to make trouble for the human realm.

The Beast King and Queen plan their son's wedding as easily as planning dinner. Thinking of their grandpa, grandma names now: I'd go with Manepa! (lion's mane + grandpa) and Nanness (Nana + lioness) Why lions I hear you ask? Lions are king of the jungle of course.

That was suspiciously good planning to the EXACT thing Yetan needed, I suspect things won't be so easy for next part of her plan.

What did I say? It was too easy in the beginning and now things are getting hard for our immortals on the run.

Haha! They had to speed up the ceremony and then what the heck is with this plan? Just everyone turns around and no one sees anything? And then "I have to do something urgent"? It really helps that everyone thinks that the Emperor peed himself.

Do the blessings even happen when nothing in the ceremony was done correctly and there was no actual Purifying Vial? (singsong voice) I don't think so!

Haichou nagging to Chaofeng: You took so long the sun is going down! Chaofeng: I was being a good boyfriend! Qingkui needs to be cared for! Haichou rolls his eyes.

Crap dammit! Not only did Chaofeng figure out Bowser's real identity, but he figured out Yetan's plan. He IS a good schemer.

How.the.heck.did.Qingkui.get.to.Chaofeng.so.fast. She was passed out drunk!

If anyone was paying attention, it was HAICHOU who was protecting the Void gang from the fire, not Chaofeng! I just wanted to point that out, mostly because he's being a jerk right now and Haichou deserves more points.

Two thumbs up for the pyrotechnics in this show. Good stuff.

Seems like we missed a scene with the purifying vial.

Qingkui used POISON! Team Void has been hurt by poison! Qingkui has joined Team Soul Shard! I am very happy!

(clapping with emphasis) This show does something that Ten Miles did not do as well! You can CLEARLY see the parallel between Youqin and his soul shards (just 1 so far…), but it was difficult for me to see the parallel with Bai Qian and Susu. They just seemed so different that I couldn't see any of Susu in Bai Qian at all.

Ziwu and Lanjue are getting closer! These two adorable babies are so sweet. I so want Lanjue to full simp king for her like his dad for the Beast Queen.

The barking + Ziwu's confused face! Barking is a whole other language here! Maybe she could learn a few words or…yips. Haha!

Qingkui is the best sister. She not only stops her boyfriend from hurting her sister's boyfriend, but then put him aside (and poisons him) to help her sister. She's a sweetheart....to poison 3 people. Now that I think about that I could have phrased that differently.

Sushui is turning into a female version of Haichou: sassy and talks back to Chaofeng. :)

The second soul shard is here and he's so much fun!! An assassin who loves money? Give me more of him!

A Dream of Splendor - Eps 27-32

So the drama couldn’t find a way to keep Pan Er and Gu Qian Fan’s relationship interesting, so they introduced a misunderstanding to drive a wedge between them and add unnecessary angst, as well as significantly reduce Chen Xiao’s screen time.

On the one hand, I can empathize with the drama’s intentions of wanting to portray Pan Er as an independent woman who shouldn’t rely on a man. When Pan Er was so confident that she’d get money from Gu Qian Fan to buy a restaurant, it seemed a little off to me that she’d be so willing to depend on his money when she keeps telling Sun San Niang and Zhao Di that they need to be independent and self-made. While Gu Qian Fan did come through with the money, unbeknownst to her, her reliance on him seemed a little contradictory to her character. I guess you can argue that she’s under the impression that she’s about to marry him so what’s his will be hers, but still.

This misunderstanding also gives Chi Ya Nei an opportunity to redeem himself and fall for her, which I had assumed that the drama was past doing. But I guess Pan Er is the Mary Sue that I thought she was where most of the prominent male characters end up falling for her.

BUT, what irks me the most about this plot development is how much it doesn’t make sense in the context of Pan Er and Gu Qian Fan’s relationship up til now.

He finds out that his father killed her father. He feels guilty, so he decides to outright avoid her with no explanation. So what’s his long-term plan? To just suddenly disappear from her life forever without explanation and let her think she’s been abandoned and scorned by a man a second time? When he knows that this is the thing that she’s most insecure about?

I mean, if you think that she’s going to hate you either way, then why not just outright tell her the truth? Doesn’t she deserve to know the truth? She’ll be mad, but at least she won’t have to go through heartbreak again and doubt herself.

Is he trying to protect her? Maybe he thinks it’s better that she hates him and move on rather than think that their unfortunate circumstance due to what happened in the previous generation has forced them to unwillingly part. Still, why would he take that choice away from her? Doesn’t he know better? If he truly does love her, then he knows that what she would want is to know the truth, no matter how hard it is.

What Gu Qian Fan is doing is not altruistic or worth pitying at all. It’s just completely disrespectful. While yes, it’s unfortunate that Pan Er didn’t see the money he left her leading her to believe that he abandoned her in her time of need when he actually didn’t, the misunderstanding wouldn’t have happened in first place if he had communicated properly instead of stirring up this unnecessary angst.

While at one point, a part of me was yelling at screen to tell Pan Er to flip through the papers on the table next to her bed because the money that he left her is RIGHT THERE, I now realize that even if she does find out that he never left her hanging after all, I’m not sure he’s worth forgiving for just disappearing without any explanation.

Up until the last minute, she never lost faith in him. She knew that something must have happened, and she was patient and tolerant and made excuses for him. She prayed for him and hope that he wasn’t hurt. But as more time passed, and she received not one sign from him, she began to lose faith. I can understand why she’s disappointed. Even if she didn’t think he abandoned her, the fact that he’s withholding from her is enough to leave her feeling doubtful about their bond. If he can’t be transparent with her after all they’ve been through, then what’s the point?

She doesn’t mind fending for herself, but she wants answers. She wants someone whom she can share both the highs and the lows with, which is what she told him at the end of episode 26. And so his silence is what hurts her. It doesn’t matter how much he may love her or care for her in secret, but the fact that he won’t come clean with the truth of his whereabouts and what happened makes him no different than Ouyang in her eyes.

And this is what annoys me. I just feel like they did Qian Fan’s character dirty. All of his sudden, his character development is stunted after episode 26. Does he think that Pan Er is the type of person to hate him just because of what his father did? She is far from an unreasonable person. She’s had so many prejudices against him before that she’s looked passed. What is he even trying to prevent by not telling her? It just makes. no. sense.

I guess he admits to Chen Lian that it’s more out of his own selfishness and cowardliness that he can’t bring himself to tell her the truth or face her. But he’s told her so many hard truths before. I don’t understand why this is different.

In Agent X, Tang Yan finds out that Luo Jun killed her father and brother back in the day. I would understand wanting to withhold that information out of selfishness. And in the end, Tang Yan forgives him because he wasn’t aware of the circumstances. In Moon Knight, Marc indirectly caused Layla’s father’s death and witnessed it. Out of guilt, he got close to her to try to make it up to her, but ended up falling for her and marrying her. That is a much bigger red flag since he fully knows what he did to her and yet manipulated her to fall for him without telling. In the Hunger Games, Katniss can’t bring herself to forgive Gale for knowingly sacrificing her sister. Which makes sense. The moment that Gale decided to do that, I knew that he and Katniss could never be together.

But I just can’t understand why after Pan Er and Qian Fan developed such a healthy relationship that now he decides that he can’t bring himself to tell her to the truth about something that he had no control over. Just because he thinks that he father committed this huge injustice against her family that he thinks that he now has no right to be with her. Where has your rational thinking gone??

“Lee Donghyuck, if you don’t get your hand off my thigh right this instant, I will tell Mr. Qian to fail you.”

You bring a light slap down on his hand, which is threatening to slide up your skirt. Your boyfriend’s hand immediately leaves your leg, innocently tucking it back into his lap. When you turn to him, his pretty lips are spread into a fake virtuous smile and his long hair barely covers his entertained sparkling eyes. Still, he complains, “Wait until I tell the student body that their vice president is actually violent and manipulative.”

He tsk’s as you show no reaction, instead flipping through the pages of the French textbook. “What would you tell them?”

Donghyuck leans back in his desk chair where the two of you reside in an empty classroom, adjusting the collar of his leather jacket before running a hand through his hair. “That even though you walk around school smiling at everyone and kissing teachers’ asses, you love hitting your boyfriend and threatening him.”

“You, my boyfriend?” You laugh at him, eyes never leaving the book. “They’d never believe you.”

You’re right, because the school has no idea that you, the It Girl and vice president of the student body council, are dating Lee Donghyuck, the guy who smokes weed behind the school and always skips class for no important reason other than to entertain himself. How you even started dating is another story, but now your relationship is on the infinite downlow.

“You’re right,” he relents, but he’s obviously not given up yet as he leans closer to you. You try not to get swayed by the sudden infiltration of his scent, and continue scanning the pages of the French book. “They won’t. But it wouldn’t be a surprise. I mean, we’d be the hottest couple ever. So, maybe I should put a nice big hickey, right there on your pretty neck. Maybe then they’ll believe you’re not as innocent as you pretend to be,” teases your boyfriend, his voice dipping lower into dangerous territory.

You roll your eyes. “Sure,” you respond sarcastically.

“If you say so.”

Before you know it, your boyfriend has leaned in to kiss you, lips inches away from yours. When you realize what he’s up to you put a hand up, so his lips meet your palm instead of their intended destination. “No.”

A whine leaves him, a stark juxtaposition from his dark appearance. “Why not?”

“Because it’s not appropriate.”

“Not appropriate?” he questions, crossing his leather covered arms across his chest. “You’re my girlfriend.”

A shake of your head tells him no, along with a teasing smirk upon your lips. “Not right now. Right now, I’m your French tutor. Now pay attention,” you tell him, gaze skimming the textbook page.

“Fine,” he scoffs, leaning back in his chair.

“Je suis allé au café et j'ai pris une tasse de café. Translate that for me.”

“That means,” he starts, rolling his neck back to stretch it out, looking less than interested in the lesson. “My boyfriend is so sexy and I wish he would kiss me right now.”

Your eyes narrow, and you shake your head. He speaks up again. “I was kidding, actually it means, Donghyuck, I love when you wear your leather jacket, it makes you look so sexy.”

You lean forward, capturing your head in your hands in frustration. He just laughs. “Tu es une telle honte, pourquoi je sors avec toi,” you sigh out, exasperated.

“Oh,” he hums, leaning forward to hold your hands instead. “Maybe that one means, My girlfriend is so beautiful and smart?” You look up at him, raising an eyebrow at his sudden attempt to appeal to you. “Because you are.”

You roll your eyes, a smile spreading over your lips. “Actually I was calling you a disgrace and wondering why I’m even dating you.”

“Not surprised,” he chuckles softly, but immediately closes the French textbook on the desk before the two of you. “Come on, you know I’m not good at this school thing. Mr. Qian already knew that when he asked you to tutor me. How about,” he tilts his head at you, about to put up an offer. “We ditch this tutoring session and go get some ice cream? On me.”

A purse of your lips tells him you’re considering it, and he adds, “If anything, I’m just studying more by being with a beautiful lady who speaks fluent French.”

You chuckle, leaning forward with pursed lips. “Je t'aime.”

“That one I know,” he smiles as he presses a sweet kiss to your lips. “Love you too. Now let’s go,” he says, standing and pulling you along by the hand.

'Cause every night she studies hard in her room At least that's what her parents assume But she sneaks out the window to meet with her boyfriend.

Carefully you climb down the side of the house, trying your best not to make any noise against the wall but also trying not to fall to your death. A sigh of relief leaves your lips as both your feet touch the solid ground.

“Going somewhere?”

Immediately you jump, eyes widened as you turn to meet the owner of the voice. “Donghyuck!” You hiss, voice still low. “I thought you were my dad!”

“Well, you can call me daddy too,” your boyfriend says as he approaches you to press a kiss on your cheek. The tip of his light chin stubble brushes on your skin as he does so.

“Don’t even joke about that,” you roll your eyes, allowing him to slide an arm over your shoulder and walk you down the street to where he parked his car out of view from your house. “So, where are we going?” “A friend’s party. His name is Mark.”

A cautious eyebrow is raised by you. “Will anyone from school be there?”

He shakes his head in response, knowing you can’t be spotted together especially with you under his arm at a college party of course. You’ve got to protect your precious reputation. “Nah, he’s in college. There’s no way he’d let high schoolers in.”

“We’re high schoolers, silly.”

“Well, yeah,” he shrugs before turning and grinning sinfully at you. “But we’re cool.”

“Yeah, keep telling yourself that,” you tease as he releases you and unlocks his car.

She may be clever but she just acts too square 'Cause in the back of the room where nobody looks She'll be with her boyfriend, she's not reading books.

As you slide up onto your tiptoes, the feeling of your boyfriend pressing against you is much too present and you scoff. “Can you stop being a horndog and get this book for me?”

“Darling,” he chastises, reaching up to grab it easily above you. “That’s what I was doing.”

As he hands the book to you, you roll your eyes. “Sure, like you weren’t trying to rub up on me.”

“Not at all,” responds Donghyuck, dark eyes glinting with mischief. You leave him behind as you turn into the next aisle, searching carefully for the next book you were looking for. As you get deeper into the library shelves, the light gets further away and the tall shelves begin to cast a shadow upon your hidden figures. “Why do you even wear your uniform, anyways? You know it’s not required by the school.”

“Yeah,” you respond matter-of-factly. “But as the vice president I should adhere to the suggestions set by the administration. Clearly you don’t care,” you say, glancing over his usual outfit of ripped jeans (which definitely didn’t fit normal dress code anyways) and his trademark leather jacket over a white Adidas shirt.

“Okay, but your president Huang Renjun is a lame virgin with a stick up his ass and even he doesn’t wear his uniform everyday,” retorts your boyfriend.

“More reason why I should have been president instead,” you respond, scanning over the back of a book sounding not at all petty.

“That’s because at the time, you were more focused on becoming my girlfriend than campaigning, you minx,” Donghyuck teases as you slide the book back into its place, unsatisfied with its synopsis. When you don’t respond, instead turning into yet another aisle, he follows you, fingers tugging slightly at your skirt. “That’s okay, I like the skirt anyways,” he says, his famous smirk over his lips as your mouth gapes and a flustered warmth slides up to your cheeks. “S’cute.”

She said to me, forget what you thought 'Cause good girls are bad girls that haven't been caught

“Oh my god, Y/N,” Donghyuck already starts as he approaches you in the front of the school, already losing his bad boy personality in the fear that you’d be upset at him. “I’m so sorry.”

The two of you had been caught making out in the bleachers by a few members of the football team after school yesterday. Okay, perhaps it wasn’t the most discreet of places but you swore they’d announced over the intercom that football practice was cancelled for the day! Unluckily, it seemed a few players still wanted to get some practice in.

Surely, rumors flew in less than twenty-four hours. Y/N, with Donghyuck? No way. Impossible.

Yeah, that was what you thought too, until it happened. You fell for him, for all his rough edges and playful teasing. He doesn’t deserve to be hidden.

The smile you give him must throw him off, because he blinks. He’s probably forgotten his pre-made apology; he knows how important your reputation is to him. In his silence, you speak up.

“I don’t want to hide anymore. Let’s,” you propose as you interlace your hands, surely feeling eyes on you already. “Show them what a hot couple looks like.”

He blinks, eyes flying to your hands and it’s probably the first time you’ve seen the snarky Donghyuck speechless. He recovers smoothly, smirking and nodding. “Okay. Let’s blow them away.”

“But if you fail your French test in third period, I will break up with you.”

A boisterous laugh leaves his lips as he kicks open the doors to the school hallway. “Noted.”

Before the two of you enter the hallway to expose your unlikely clandestine romance to everyone, you lean up and whisper in his ear. “Je t'aime.”

“I know what that means,” he smirks as he presses a proud kiss onto your temple, and takes a step inside.

oooooh ship bingo! i recently heard about these two concepts and would love to hear your take: ye baiyi and lan xichen, and xie'er and lan xichen <3

Oohhh okay, first I have to say I'm not actually into crossovers BUT let's forget about that for a little bit, these concepts are interesting.

First, Ye Baiyi and Lan Xichen. Let's see what they have in common.

They are both high skilled cultivators, very relevant figures in their respective societies.

They share common values such as righteousness, compassion, honor, service without waiting for anything in return, even kindness (more explicit in Lan Xichen).

They are not rigid in their principles though. Both acknowledge that most of the times you cannot judge a person as bad or good, nor a situation as black or white. They have struggled with it sometimes (i.e. Ye Baiyi considering whether he should kill Wen Kexing or not after knowing he's the chief of Ghost Valley, while also being aware of the difficult circumstances that led him to become that evil figure, which are indirectly related to YBY as Rong Xuan was his disciple. Also Lan Xichen caught between the evidence that Meng Yao has committed very wrong deeds and the kindness he has known from him)

Both have lost their loved ones forever.

Both have a tendency for retirement and solitude.

Apart from that, LXC has this noble and respectable aura that makes people feel calm and reassured when he's around, like if there's any problem it's okay, LXC probably knows how to solve it, he's diplomatic, also he will protect his people from danger, always keeping that composed calmness that's inherent to him (even if there's inner turmoil).

Now I consider, Ye Baiyi is very similar too, think of those scenes in the first episodes of WoH, when he gave Gao Chong the token of honor, then at the second Heroes Conference when everyone turned to him as a guide for what to do with the Ghost Valley issue, and also when WKX and ZZS fell from the bridge Cheng Ling felt reassured having YBY to help him. People feel relieved when he's around to lead them and solve problems.

So now, if LXC and YBY met I think they'd be a good match, like they would sense the similarities of their souls, especially the influence they have on others, now I can't find the words, but it's related to the righteousness and the high moral values and elevated cultivation they have achieved. Also they would perceive the isolation that comes with being far from the mortal realm for so long (for Ye Baiyi) and with being an important figure of the cultivation society that also has lost someone who was very important to him (in the case of LXC).

I believe they'd connect easily, like oh I recognize you, you are similar to me. And also they would enjoy learning from each other, YBY has reached the most elaborated martial arts skills and LXC is outstanding in musical cultivation (or whatever name it is). They see each other as equals and no one feels less than the other.

However, I think Ye Baiyi would break all of the Lan rules XD and be upset all the time, like why can't I just sit on the roofs at night to watch the stars while drinking alcohol? But as LXC is the Gusu leader (I think? Can't remember what he was at the end of The Untamed) and he is far from strict as LQR was, he would ignore it. In fact, I think he knows most of the rules are outdated and unnecessary, so they just keep following the rules that are actually related to master one's discipline, being righteous, respecting your elders and seniors and being kind to your sworn brothers and so on.

They might cultivate together. Keep each other company even as they are just sitting there in meditative contemplation or just enjoying the silence. Talk about ancient knowledge.

As for the type of relationship, I don't actually think it would be of romantic or sexual nature, like they were devoted to one partner in the past (probably more platonically than anything, at least on YBY part) and seem to me the kind of people that does not engage with anyone else after his companion has died, at least in the same way, like sometimes it's hard to reach the same level of deep connection with someone else. That doesn't mean they could not forge a close relationship, but to me it's not the same vibe as xiyao or rongye (or whatever the name of this ship is).

Following the bingo classification, I'd say Best friends, or Qplatonic at most. Also I'm intrigued to know what other kind of relationship people think they could develop. If you want to share with me, I'd love to know your ideas!!

Okay, probably for the next one I'll try to write less because I realized how long this is getting (it's just a bingo, please brain!!!), and I should finish some college stuff buut it's not less interesting to me I swear!!

So Xie'er and LXC. First, I think LXC would be aware of the good that's in Xie'er and his potential, mostly his inexhaustible willpower and determination, which have been until now directed towards, let's say, flawed goals? All that energy and intelligence wasted on another man's dream. It's unacceptable!!

The principal thing that comes to my mind and that struck me since Xie'er first appeared was the he seems to know who is everyone, like he saw ZZS and WKX together for the first time and he thought, why are the former leader of the Window of Heaven and the chief of Ghost Valley together wtf? While everyone else was like oh, two righteous wanderers, never heard of them before. Xie'er clearly knows how to obtain the right information, he has the mind of a researcher, and that could be put to good use.

Also Xie'er knows a lot about venoms and their antidotes, is that not another relevant and useful skill he has??? Again here, he is a researcher, as for instance he discovered the cure to the Meng Po soup was Drunk like a dream. Furthermore, he probably knows a lot about survival, hiding, disguising himself, being a shadow amongst shadows, fighting (especially dirty tricks), and leadership skills. He also has some knowledge on magic tricks (with the Drug men) that could be the simile to demonic cultivation.

All this knowledge and abilities could be put to good use, not to achieve other's goals, but to help people, for example, finding a cure to their poisoning or demonic possession (or whatever), instructing others on different facts that could be useful if they need to hide from a threat, survive in the wild for some time, coming alive from a fight with a nasty opponent an so on.

I mean, I haven't mentioned LXC until now but let's assume he is aware of everything about Xie'er's skills that I have described. Also, he realizes Xie'er has a good soul, it's something you can see right away if you spend a minimum of time with him. He has shown it with actions too, for instance, when he released Liu Qian Qiao and his lover, also that scene after the battle at mount Qingya (I'm still crying about Cao Wei Ning and Gu Xiang, my poor babies ;~;) when he left WKX and ZZS go (although he had a sword to his neck gssbsbsbsb), and of course everything he did for Zhao Jing, out of his love and affection for him.

Okay, he has done bad deeds, but he has kindness in him. A kindness that has not actually been nurtured but has developed there anyways. He has a tendency to serve others, that we see mostly with his yifu. Those are important values that might be developed and focused to actions that make an improvement on people's lives, and probably on Xie'er's own.

And LXC is determined to do that. Like he sees Xie'er's efforts to serve others because it's something that comes naturally out of him, but realizes it needs to be properly acknowledged as no one has done that before (we only got to see him do things for his yifu, who rarely showed any gratefulness for it, and only this time with Qian Qiao she almost got to say something nice to him, but Xie'er turned away swiftly, like he is not used to receive positive feedback on his good actions at all, so probably it's not something that he feels comfortable with).

I believe LXC would nurture this good side of Xie'er, praising those little (and bigger) services he does for others, which would act as a positive reinforcement. Also he would show interest in Xie'er's skills, and what he does in his free time (like no one has shown some interest in this before?), as well as his emotional state and stuff. Showing that he genuinely cares about him. That he appreciates Xie'er for who he is.

Also he would encourage him to persevere on those abilities he has and teach others, maybe the Lan disciples. So Xie'er would see that his skills can be used for some other things that are not killing or trying to become the king of the world.

As for Xie'er, he would grow to like LXC, finally finding someone who really cares about him, knowing for the first time in his life what it is to be seen and appreciated by someone who does not expect nothing from him in return. Learning that he deserves to be loved that way (and I don't necessarily mean romantically).

And that he does not need to kill for others anymore. He can become the person he wants to be, not what others want to get from him. LXC would show him he can do good deeds and they will be appreciated, even if he's doing it for others is something he inherently has done before, it nurtures his soul. He needs to experience more of that. And LXC would encourage it. He is patient, he is kind, he rarely lashes out, he has predictable reactions unlike his yifu (I mean, when Xie'er did something to please him but sometimes he would react nicely and many others he wouldn't, let's ignore if his actions were morally correct or not, the fact is Zhao Jing would respond differently to similar things).

Also Xie'er is able to discern what's good and what's harmful, and I believe that given he could choose freely, without thinking is this what my Yifu would do, he would be inclined to do the good thing. LXC encourages that.

Okay, I will not elaborate more, probably I've even been redundant several times. This relationship would definitely be great for Xie'er, for him to learn what is a healthy bond and to grow as a person.

But I don't think it would develop into a romantic or sexual kind of relationship. It just don't give me those vibes. LXC and Xie'er have different backgrounds, LXC is a sect leader and devoted to cultivation, Xie'er is the leader of a shady assassin organization and has developed other kinds of abilities.

Dunno, I don't feel them like equals, as it feels with YBY and LXC, for them the cultivation/martial arts skills are one of the main pillars of their lives and it's something they can share together, LXC and Xie'er are way too different. There might be some power imbalance too, and LXC would be somewhat taking care of Xie'er and not quite the opposite? (save from those little services Xie'er would do for him). Well, this is not probably a good reason because I like some ships with power imbalances too.

But I mean, they just don't click to me as a couple at least. More like a teacher/student relationship perhaps, or a friendship at most. Perhaps I just can't ship it any other way because of my strugglr with crossovers, but with YBY and LXC it was clearer to me that, well, it could be possible.

the Liu Yao posters come with a few lines of poetry that serves as character introductions on the official weibo, so obviously I had to try my hand at translating them!

... that said, I’m well aware that my knowledge of Chinese literature is somewhat lacking, and there’s a lot of room for improvement in both my Chinese and English writing skills. If there are any suggestions regarding accuracy/wording/flow etc, please feel free to let me know!

嚴爭鳴 & 程潛 Yan Zhengming and Cheng Qian

陌上花開早，踏歌江水平。春風潛入夜，萬物始爭鳴。 Flowers bloom early along the field paths, Joyous songs travel along calm waters. As spring breeze crept in through the night, All things under heaven begin to crow.

poor Yan Zhengming and Cheng Qian, they didn’t get quotes like the other characters... it’s kinda cute that they sneaked their names into the last line, with Cheng Qian’s 潛 (“to creep in”) and Yan Zhengming’s 爭鳴 (“to crow”) for the line that is essentially about new beginnings—Yan Zhengming is the First Disciple, and the leader of the revitalized Fuyao’s new generation, so the imagery of the last line is really neat!

ngl, this text gave me quite a lot of trouble... i could tell there are things going on here that is way beyond my knowledge of Chinese literature lol (the line about joyous songs travelling along calm waters? pretty sure that’s an allusion to a love poem lol, but since the theme of the poem is about the ambiguity of courtship it doesn’t super fit MingQian’s dynamic imo?)

韓淵 Han Yuan

“师兄给的松子糖，最甜了！” “The pine candies from shixiong are the best!”

四月花載酒，少年不識愁。一朝畫魂杳，歸來山音舊。 April brings flowers and wine, And the youth did not yet know sorrow. His soul drawn on the morrow, Returning to the mountain’s familiar sounds.

tbh I’m not entirely sure why April (四月, “the 4th month”) is referenced in the text; my best guess is that it’s an allusion to the Tomb Sweeping Festival（清明節）where you pay respects to your family who passed, which is typically held on 4/4 or 4/5 on the lunar calendar. i mean, Liu Yao and especially Han Yuan’s arc concerns the theme of “family” and all...

but yeah, this boy deserved So Much Better... 一道畫魂，讓神仙般快活的日子一去不復返（“不過不算晚，還能讓我看看扶搖山”）... 韓淵你真的好冤啊！！

李筠 Li Yun

那少年名如翠竹，身也如翠竹：“师父，什么是剑意？” The youth is like the verdant bamboo in both name and shape. “Master, what is swordwill?”

翠竹新雨後，浮生歲月閒。心有抱樸志，巧解九連環。 Like verdant bamboo after rain, Living life leisurely. With a heart of modest ambitions, He solved the Nine Links cleverly.

Li Yun is the only character so far who got a description in addition to a quote, which was kind of interesting—they picked the quote from the flashback in which Li Yun was prepared to lay down his life to protect his little sister, and it’s one of the only scenes where we see him interact with Master, so the quote automatically gets me fired up lol

韓木椿 Han Muchun (Master)

“李生大路无人摘，必苦。小潜啊，你心里有数，为师愿你‘自在’。” “Things that seem too good to be true have hidden dangers, Xiao-Qian, you know that already. I wish you a life without undue restraints.”

識得乾坤大，猶憐草木青。相思豈無益，百花共酒行。 Know the vastness of the universe, Yet cherish the lush greenery. Could no good come from mutual pining? A hundred flowers and jugs of wine as company.

there are a few interpretations for 自在 imo, and in the end i went with ‘unrestrained’ because Master could tell that Cheng Qian is the type of child who places a lot of unnecessary constraints on himself out of a sense of pretentiousness and superiority (child Cheng Qian is judgmental af lol)

there’s also the fact that, at this point, Master thought Cheng Qian was Tong Ru’s reincarnation—and given how Tong Ru never acted on his feelings for Master (with very good reasons) before tragedy struck, Master wanted Cheng Qian to attain happiness in this life

北冥君 Lord Beiming

“我早知萬事不得圓滿，但為求一綫生機，不悔！” “I’ve known from the start that nothing is perfect. But for the sake of finding a way out, I have no regrets!”

私心成妄念，但忆苦与甜。众生皆草木，唯你是青山。 Delusion born from selfish desires, Memories both bitter and sweet. All beings are but lowly weeds, But not you, the only evergreen mountain.

the fact that Tong Ru’s labelled as “Lord Beiming” strongly implies the donghua is only going to cover up to Cheng Qian’s [redacted], if even that.

the rhyme schemes of these poems are also quite interesting: the poems for YZM & CQ, HY and LY has an ABCB scheme in Cantonese (but no significant pattern in Mandarin that I can discern); Master’s poem has an ABCB scheme in Mandarin, and Lord Beiming’s has an AABC scheme in both Mandarin and Cantonese. Hopefully we’ll get Shuikeng and see if her poem also has a ABCB scheme in Canto to fit with the other Fuyao kids?

I’ll Be Your Light (In The Darkest Night) <KUNTEN>

Genre: Hurt/Comfort (Fluff w/ Light Angst)

Pairings: Kunten (Qian Kun x Ten Lee)

Word Count: 1,936

Warnings: Light Angst (not much but like kun gets yelled at a lot)

Synopsis: Kun is an amazing leader for wayv. He’s levelheaded, smart, observant, and he knows how to make sure the boys are taken care of. But sometimes leaders have to make tough decisions for the good of their members, even if they can’t see the benefit. OR Kun is upset and Ten is there for him.

A/N: Uh hi this is my first fanfic on tumblr!! :DD My awesome friend sophie (@chicksung) encouraged me to try posting one so here I am. Hope it’s at least an enjoyable read :))) Tell me what you think in the comments or by reblogging! “You’ve got to be kidding me!!!”

Each of the 7 boys flinched hard at their dance instructor’s exclamation, their hearts beating wildly in their chests.

“Seriously what is WRONG with you guys?? That’s the 10th time we’ve gone over that section and you STILL can’t get it right!”

“I think we’re all really tired ge,” Kun interjects, voice calm and collected as always. “Maybe we should call it a night and try again tomorrow.”

The teacher seems to grow angrier from that comment. “We are not done until each of you can do the choreography flawlessly. Go get some water and I better see you back and ready to dance in no more than 10 minutes!!” Kun can do nothing but nod and usher his members into the hall. As they step over the threshold, each boy all but collapse onto the floor, completely drained of energy and courage.

Kun sinks down the wall whilst holding in a groan of pain. The teachers had been really harsh that day, yelling at them and making them work extra hard. Kun wishes he could just go home and cuddle with his boyfriend.

As if sensing Kun’s unease, the aforementioned boyfriend sat next to him and offered him a sip of water which he gladly accepted. Ten intertwined their hands and squeezed Kun encouragingly.

“I don’t think I can take much more of this, my legs feel like Jello.” Hendery comments, breaking the silence of the room.

“I know, the staff have been really crude today,” Lucas responds, his usually wide and wondrous eyes are dulled, which isn’t lost on Kun. His stomach clenches as he looks around at his members. It’s painful seeing them so despondent. Each pair of eyes sporting large bags and shoulders all hunched and tense. The boys stare back at him with expressions so colorless it makes Kun want to cry. Winwin taps him on the shoulder suddenly.

“Kun-ge you have to tell the teacher we can’t go on, I can barely feel my legs.” Winwin’s eyes brim with tears as he speaks and Kun wants so badly to wipe them away. He grabs the back of Winwin’s head and guides it to his shoulder in comfort. Being tired as shit himself, Kun would love nothing more then to tell the teacher to let them go, but he knows he can’t. If he so much as looks at the teacher the wrong way he’ll get them all punished. It makes him feel terrible, not being able to take care of his members the way he needs to. With a heavy heart he brings the boys to their feet, offering them the most encouraging smile he can muster.

“It’s only another half an hour guys, we’ll get through this I promise.”

Needless to say the practice continues to go downhill from there.

The short break did not make the teacher any less cruel. He continues to scream, degrade, and cuss out the members. The words he spews sting each boy to the core. Kun only watches as brows crease infinitely tighter and stray tears are wiped in secret.

Kun doesn’t realize how deep in his thoughts he is until he trips over his foot sending him to the floor. His eyes remain closed as he hears the music switch off and the feeling of doom rises in his chest.

“Oh my god Kun this is RIDICULOUS!! Why can’t you guys get this?? It’s so simple!! Stop slacking and focus!!” Kun reluctantly stands up and faces the teacher with the most level expression he can.

“I’m sorry ge, I’ll do better from now on.”

“You better. It’s bad enough that I have to deal with Xiaojun’s weak form, I don’t need any more challenges today.” Kun is taken aback by the comment. Out of the corner of his eye, he can see Xiaojun curl into himself almost as if trying to disappear, and it fills him with rage. Fire spreads from the tips of his fingers all the way to his toes. His hands ball into fists as he struggles to maintain his calm demeanor. He can handle the insults thrown his way, but something about this one comment set him off. Poor Xiaojun is struggling enough with his own confidence and Kun knows things like this really get to him. He doesn’t want to let this teacher continue to talk shit about the people he cares for. His members stare at him almost expectantly as he glares daggers into the back of the staffs’ heads. Checking his watch, he realizes that there’s 5 minutes left of rehearsal and reality sinks in slowly.

Kun, having been cursed with “holding the braincell” (as Hendery lovingly puts it), knows that if he goes off on the teacher it’ll only hurt his members more. God only knows what’d happen to them if the staff report them as “difficult to work with” or anything. As much as the members want him to assert their needs, they have to know that he stays silent to protect them. So he reluctantly bites his tongue and just continues to dance for 5 long, agonizing, scream-filled minutes.

The ride back to the dorms is unusually quiet. All the members seemingly too upset or too tired to speak. Ten rests his sleepy head on Kun’s shoulder in a form of comfort that’s only half effective. Kun watches as Hendery holds a shaken Xiaojun and whispers affirmations into his hair. He sees Winwin and Yangyang cuddle up to Lucas trying to get as much sleep as they can in the uncomfortable position. Knots of guilt and sadness begin to form in Kun’s stomach. He attempts to focus on Ten’s heartbeat against his side, but he’s never able to drift off.

Once they get home everything explodes.

“How could you let him do that ge?? Shit talk us like that?? You should’ve said something.” Yangyang cries out, emotional and desperate. The tears they’d all been holding in spilling over in the tense atmosphere. Kun stares back in bewilderment, unable to form a coherent response, and Yangyang is not having it.

“LOOK WHAT HE DID TO POOR XIAOJUN!! HOW COULD YOU LET HIM JUST DO THAT????”

“It’s not Kun’s responsibility to cuss out teachers baby.” Ten interjects, trying to calm the two.

“But he could’ve said something. He’s our leader, he should look out for us.” Hendery pipes up, his tone even but a slight bite lies in his words. Kun’s really trying not to cry now. He should’ve been there for them. He was so stupid to stay quiet, they neeeded him, and he’d failed them.

“I-I’m sorry,” Kun mutters. He keeps his eyes glued to the floor.

“You should be.” Yangyang spits out, before turning on his heels and stomping to his room, slamming the door closed.

“Guys, there’s no use placing blame right now. It’s really late, we should all get to bed.” Lucas shoots a small smile in Kun’s direction before shooing Hendery and Xiaojun into their room. Kun walks shakily to his own room, not bothering to get changed. He sits on his bed and buries his head in his knees, focusing on his shallow breaths.

He felt like the worst friend on the planet. His members had been suffering and all he could do was watch. Some leader, he never should’ve debuted. He’s so worthless, so stupid, so-

“Kunnie?”

Ten’s silky voice cuts through Kun’s thoughts like a knife.

“Kun can I come in?”

Kun makes no motion to look up or get the door, only letting out a noise of confirmation before he hears the doorknob turn.

“Oh darling,” And all it takes is that one pet name for Kun to shatter like glass. His body shakes with each silent sob, all the emotions from today come pouring out. Ten sits patiently, never forcing Kun or rushing him. He’s too perfect Kun thinks. I don’t deserve him follows soon after only making him sob harder. Ten’s hands find their way into Kun’s hair, massaging his scalp assuringly. Several minutes later, Kun’s breathing has evened out until only occasional sniffles remain. He looks up at his boyfriend reluctantly, finding only care and worry in his brown eyes. Ten’s expression melts into a fond smile, pressing a kiss to Kun’s temple before getting up and moving to the dresser. Kun’s gaze follows him, puzzled, until the younger boy turns back to him with pajamas and a large sweatshirt. Ten motions for Kun to lift his arms and begins undressing him. Once Kun is comfortable in his pajamas, Ten sits back down on the bed.

“Care to tell me what's going on in that pretty little head of yours?” Kun can’t help the slight heat that spreads across his cheeks. Even though they’ve been dating for 3 months now, Ten still manages to fluster Kun with ease. It’s just one of his many annoying charms.

“Nothing,” Kun lies, not convincing Ten for a second.

“Come on Kun, knowing you, I’d be more worried if you WEREN’T overthinking this,” Ten giggles melodically making Kun’s stomach flip slightly. “I’m not gonna judge you sweetheart, I swear.” Kun looks down and fidgets with his sleeves.

“It’s just…” he begins, “I feel like a shit leader. Like I wasn’t even able to protect you guys from our own staff! I just think I should’ve... done better.”

“You saying something would only make the situation worse, and we all know that.” Ten smiles lightly. “You can’t actually blame yourself for this Kun, look at me.” Ten presses his forehead against Kun’s and their gazes meet.

“You have to know they didn’t mean that,” Ten’s eyes scan Kun’s, “You didn’t do anything wrong bub, they’re just tired and upset.” Kun nods understandingly, but is obviously still uneasy. Ten quickly notices this and presses his lips to Kun’s. Their eyes flutter shut as each of them get lost in the feeling of each other. Ten’s lips work as if he’s trying to erase all traces of doubt and worry from his boyfriend’s mind. To be honest, it’s kinda working. When they break apart for air Kun can’t wipe the smile off his face. Ten, wearing an equally dopey smile, reaches up to wipe the saliva from Kun’s lips tenderly. He looks into Kun’s eyes with intent as he delivers his next statement.

“You. are. not. always. to. blame.” He boops his nose with each word for emphasis. “You did what you thought was best for the group, as any good leader does. You are so kind and considerate darling, the members love you so so much, you are the perfect leader for WayV.” Kun’s face feels like splitting from the size of the smile he’s wearing now.

“I love you so much.” Ten giggles and pecks Kun’s lips once more.

“I love you too, my handsome baby. Now get over here and sleep with me. We’ve had a long day.” And who’s Kun to refuse such an offer?

The next morning, Kun watches as Yangyang shuffles into the kitchen looking considerably more rested and also considerably more guilty. He pauses eating his breakfast to look up at the young boy.

“I’m really sorry Kun-ge, I didn’t mean to get so angry last night. And I definitely didn’t mean any of the things I said.” He genuinely admits. Kun only smiles.

“It’s ok Yangyang, I know you didn’t mean to hurt me.” Yangyang’s shoulders relax at that.

“Thank goodness. I feel really bad about it.”

“No need. All is forgiven.”

“So does this mean you’ll make me pancakes?”

“You little-”

so on the progress back to getting some energy i can now read a little and have been chipping away at yukacchi’s translation of guardian (here’s yuka-cchii’s twitter and tumblr @yukacchi) and

i love the characterizations? when i have more energy i might go back and quote but just. i love how priest sets it up. the moments where zhao yunlan frightens li qian for an inexplicable reason, that god tier intimidation still there. the fact he takes the guardian rules so seriously while he makes a mess of his personal life, how he’s unabashedly bi and wants love but thinks he isn’t long term relationship material so he always is a loyal partner but just keeps being left by them and thinks shen wei is ‘a serious looking man’ and zhao yunlan doesn’t want to offer himself when he thinks he can’t be the kind of man shen wei would deserve to date. how shen wei pointedly won’t look at zhao yunlan directly, how when he touches zhao yunlan he can’t help but reveal his affection (that’s already there) and desperate urge to hold/protect. how he hears li qian want to throw her life away and takes it So Personal he gets scary.

Because it almost killed the man he loves. Because he knows what its like to want to die to protect someone and reasons for throwing your life away are deeply personal shit to the man and stuff he’s thought about for centuries in longing and grief. How guo changcheng looks back in the hall, and shen wei who’d refused to meet zhao yunlan’s eyes is now staring like he’s been doing it 10,000 years in longing and pain and care to the point he doesn’t even notice guo changcheng watching him. the way shen wei has a gentle smile that the more you look is clearly pasted on and held tight and a mask.

the way he immediately makes zhao yunlan think of a beautiful scholar a demon falls in love with and paints, with that touch of darkness in the art unable to be ignored. that shen wei looks just so perfect of a beauty behind the glasses and avoidance he’s using to keep his walls up and go less noticed. how shen wei speaks eloquently but dances completely around giving actual answers. the way zhao yunlan is singleminded in his work, puts on this friendly casual act to handle the SID and push Guo changcheng along but he can drop it and be frightening at a dime and when people have done something wrong or they’re sensitive wow do they feel that underlying threat no matter how relaxed and ‘friendly and casual’ he’s putting on.

just. the masks the two put on were certainly aspects in the drama acted out well by zhu yilong and bai yu, but in the novel there’s such a noticeable undercurrent of otherworldly power/isolation in the way zhao yunlan relates to things even if he doesn’t notice or pay mind to it - its in how he acts relative to da qing, to the SID, to regular civilians. the way this dark shadow seems to seep from shen wei, not in an evil way but in a way like he fits more with the shadows and ghosts, with the things slipping in the dark, like its touched him and he can be the sweet strong level headed and kind professor but that past doesn’t go away, doesn’t leave, its just under this very nicely made up front he’s got on. and the moment no one’s looking (or shen wei thinks they aren’t), the moment zhao yunlan gets too close and shen wei feels like he’s young and vulnerable and aching with loss again, it breaks right through (and then there’s zhao yunlan’s much sharper to the point its scary perception in this novel form - he picks up on shen wei’s oddness before he even falls into the contemplating how Hot and His Type the guy is - but it also Doesn’t even put him off a man is weird because zhao yunlan is so used to seeing ghosts and dealing with shadows without even a jump or blink of shock, because he’s the guardian he doesn’t feel like he quite belongs to the world of the living even though he plays in it and protects it).

#guardian #guardian novel #guardian novel lb #like. i have some really favorite translations of priests writing like northwestflower and edanglartranslations #whereas guardian i've seen about 5 different people translate these scenes #and i've translated some of this myself ToT and i've read these chapters in chinese #and its just. what i manage to love no matter how the lense i understand guardian through #these characterizations take form and start so rich and quick #also if i ever have the time one day i'd like to translate my print copy of guardian more #because it has a lot of added paragraphs/scenes and edits. and a lot of them add to the description and characterization details #like zhu hong being in a much earlier chapter. like zhao yunlan noting shen wei's beauty on first sight too #like shen wei lurking in the dark or it hinting that much more explicitly earlier #related - i recommend yuka's translation #!!! yuka is almost done so its a single-translation instead of several different pieces #and yuka for the most part includes the metaphors and imagery and phrasings priest used #i personally think it still simplifies slightly since i feel the writing style is a bit less preserved #but that could be my personal tastes since i translated the way the writing flows a little different #and i am partial to the way edanglartranslates and foxghost tend to translate guardian's writing style #yuka's translation is very detail complete though~! which is absolutely lovely because some guardian translations cut out descriptions #which u might notice if u ever read the chinese alongside the english or a chinese audiuobook with some of the translations #yukas happily keeps pretty much all the main words/imagery in some form which is really nice #yukas is a really nice translation <3

SYNOPSIS ! In which Jinjoo and Mija recall how they fell in love with the best people.

AUTHORS NOTE ! I apologies if some parts don’t make sense! I’ve read through it many times but I could’ve missed something. Please enjoy.

"So," Jinjoo began, staring out of the window of the dorm she knew as home. All she saw was the cityscape, and how beautiful it looked from the sky. Even though the view wasn't necessarily the best, she took what little she was served. “Are you…” Jinjoo paused, not sure how to ask her member such a serious question. All the rehearsing she did before the talk was thrown out the window as soon as she requested Mija to sit with her in privacy. ‘Those eyes,’ she thought to herself, gazing at Mija’s chocolate orbs, ‘Why are they making this so difficult?’

“Mija, I saw you last night.” Silence graced the room. Although it was silent previously, this silence was different from anything Jinjoo had experienced before. It was heavy, full of tension, suspicion, and almost guilt. Jinjoo could barely breathe in this air. At this point, she would rather leave the room with concerns than breathe this disappointment in. After what felt like a long time, Mija spoke with a soft voice, “You saw me?” It was small and emotionless. Jinjoo couldn’t tell what she was feeling and that made her, even more, unnerved at this interaction. She should’ve stayed silent. She *would’ve* if not for the potential danger Mija put herself through for some boy. If their agency found out she was seeing Mark Lee, they’d terminate her contract before she could get a word in edgewise.

Hell, even Jinjoo recalls how strict QUARTZ was during trainee days. “No dating! If you’d rather choose Romeo and Juliet over your career, you aren’t fit to be an idol!” The leader shivered at the harsh tone of their instructor, even now. “Y-yeah,” Jinjoo said, stumbling over her words whilst searching for new ones that made sense, “I heard a loud bang last night while I was going through our schedule. I went over, and there you were.” Mija had escaped from the window of their dorm down to the balcony below her. The jump wasn’t low at all, and even though Mija had been clumsy with the execution, she’d made it. Unfortunately, however, the younger girl had also hit her leg on the wall. Jinjoo remembers how startled she was to see her member limping from the impact, more worried about the wound than what Mija would be doing exiting the dorms in such an odd way. But nothing startled Jinjoo more than seeing her member reach the ground floor and run up to Mark Lee with open arms.

Mija was silent throughout the time Jinjoo confronted her. The young girl hadn’t known what to say. What do you say to your member who caught you doing something against regulation? ‘Forgot about it?’ ‘I’ll pay you.’ Dammit. Mija wracked her brain, attempting to find a way out of this conversation alive.

“Hey, Mija. It’s okay. I’m not gonna let QUARTZ know or anyone else. Not even Yej. But, if you don’t mind me asking, why?”

“Why what?” Mija responded hastily.

Jinjoo sighed, getting the exact opposite reaction she had hoped for. The leader was at least expecting a semblance of calm to their conversation. There was still a chance. She had to make sure Mija trusted in her. If she was going to put her contract on the line, she needed the help of someone. Or at least a shoulder to cry on. “Why are you dating?” Jinjoo responded to her calmly, her hands steady on her lap. She was speaking in English now, hoping that Mija understood her words better. They were both sitting on the floor with Mija hugging her knees to her chest and Jojo sitting crossed. “I’m dating because I’m a grown woman. I can do what I want. What? Do you expect me to just sit around and dance all day? I’m tired of living for the fans. I wanna live for what Jung Mija wants. Fuck what Stella wants.” Jinjoo could tell Mija wasn’t actually directing her aggression at her, rather herself. The funny part is, Jinjoo is well aware that Mija doesn’t mean it. She knows better than anybody that the girl in front of her loves her career more than anybody. Jinjoo couldn’t miss the brilliant smile Mija wore when she got up on stage and gave the choreo her all. The leader couldn’t help but smile at seeing the younger girl get so excited over fan calls. She’d talk for hours about the different types of fans and how motivated she felt after hearing their words.

But then again, Jinjoo could also see where she was coming from. Out of everyone in GLOSS, Mija is the most popular. It’s good, but it’s also bad. In comes more fans, loving Mija and praising her left and right. But the opportunity to be a good fan of Mija is shared with the opportunity of being a bad fan of her. More sasaengs, more toxicity. Mija was probably the most loved and bullied when she first debuted. Fans calling her fat, telling her she could never be pretty if she didn’t lose weight. And although the younger girl had been advised by her seniors to never read comments, she couldn’t hold herself back. Thousands and thousands of comments. And for every good one, a bad one came along. For nights, Mija woke from nightmares, sobbing about how many people seem to hate her. “I’m a bad person,” Mija screamed out in the arms of Jinjoo one night. The two of them were roommates when they first debuted, so the leader experienced the tears of the younger girl first hand. “They think I’m bad!” Mija screamed into Jinjoo’s shirt. The blonde could only hold onto Mija for dear life. She was silent, comforting her by rubbing back, kissing her head, and whispering things like: “It’s okay, Mija, it’s okay.”

Jinjoo looks at Mija now and can’t get the image of that one night out of her head. This is the real Stella right here. She’s a human with raw emotion, feeling everything the same way any average being does. Though that fact is hard to swallow for those who admire idols to an extreme point. The leader felt disgusted that there’s someone who is out there that genuinely believes Mija feels nothing but happiness. All Jinjoo wants to do is take away the sadness from Mija and give her hope. “Hey, it’s alright Mija.” She says, making sure to keep her distance from the girl. She knows that if she gets a little closer to Mija, she will hug her and cling to her for dear life. But Jinjoo also knows that her actions of endearment might not be welcomed due to the mood of the room.

“Jung Mija is Jung Mija and she truly deserves her happiness. If Mark Lee is your happiness, fine. I fully cheer both of you on. All I know is that I’m warning you to be careful. It’s not that I don’t love you, but I know that you love your career. If QUARTZ terminated your contract, I know you’d be devastated. That’s why I’m warning you to *be careful*. I’ll back you up, Mija. You know this.” Jinjoo looked at the younger girl with unwavering, tense eyes. It was Mija’s turn to feel intimidated by her gaze. “I-I know that, Jinjoo.” Mija finally felt herself calming down from her rage. “Thank you. Thank you for everything.” Mija reached over and hugged Jinjoo. Of course, the leader was already waiting for her hug but she wanted Mija to feel comfortable about it. Jinjoo embraces Mija back and hugged her as her life depended on it. She hoped her affection conveyed how much she genuinely loved Mija.

“But I have to ask,” Jinjoo pulled away from the hug after minutes of silence. “Why Mark Lee?” She almost cracked up at her own question. Mark Lee, the boy who always seems to carry stars in his eyes. “I don’t know,” Mija laughed alongside Jinjoo. “It’s just-- his everything. His laugh, his smile. I genuinely adore him. He helps numb the pain better than anything.”

“I mean, whatever helps, right?” Jinjoo chuckled once more, preferring this mood over the previous. The two continued to laugh over the night, the tension dissipating in an instance. It didn’t even linger and there was no trace of the conversation's presence. It happened and it’s gone.

“Get up.” He chuckled, pulling her hand.

“I have no desire to.”

“I said,” Mija easily got out of bed, a mere opposite of her attitude minutes ago, “Give me a kiss.” She made sure to pronounce every syllable. “Stella-- are you sure?” He asked, and looked her in the eyes. Mija was almost going to kiss him right then and there. He looked so adorable, his eyes were glowing, and he was obviously embarrassed by her blunt behavior. She lifted up his hand and kissed his palm, looking to him. “Of course. You can kiss me anytime.” Mark looked at her hesitantly before leaning in. She met him halfway and they kissed. It was soft. Of course, it always was. Mija had to admit to Mark that his kisses have an effect to make her melt. Nobody has ever touched Mija with such love and passion and seeing Mark, she believes he’s the first to ever make her feel this way. He is her first love.

Mija grinned up at Mark from her bed. Although Mark wanted to get up and make something, Mija was opposed to the idea. She just wanted to reside in bed with him, relaxed and calm. This was her safe haven. “We can sit down and eat and talk. How about that?” Mark attempted to persuade her out of bed. “Gimme a kiss.”

“What?” He said in disbelief. It had caught him off guard for sure.

Mark pulled away, blushing. “Uhm, so should we go ahead and, like, you know, finally eat?” Mija squeezed Mark’s hand she kissed. She never let go. “Yeah, let’s. I’m starving.”

As soon as she made her way into the kitchen, she began to gather up ingredients to cook a simple breakfast. Her star-eyed lover looked at her confused. “I can cook for you.”

“Oh my god, no Mark. Remember last time? You almost burned me alive AND you gave me food poisoning.” The boy chuckled at her tone. “You’re being dramatic.”

“No, I’m being protective over my life. *I* want to live.” The two laughed back at the memory. It was peaceful. Mark was sitting at the table conversing with Mija now and then while she cooked breakfast. She was at NCT’s dorms and the other boys were either busy or out, considering today was their off day, which was few and far in between. You’d think they would let them rest more often, but Mija was happy when she spent time with Mark. She never complained about his busy schedule because she understood.

As soon as Mija was done, she placed the plate down, serving eggs and bacon. It was good, considering she was always the one cooking back at her dorms. “Eat up.” She said grinning at Mark. Nothing felt better than seeing someone enjoy the food you worked on. “So, how have promotions been going?” She sipped the coffee in her hands, deciding to skip out on breakfast since she didn’t feel hungry in the mornings.

“It’s fine, just stressful. We’re preparing to release a full album but we’re still deciding on naming and things. How have you been?” He asked, enjoying the breakfast as if it were steak and not the mediocre eggs. “It’s been fine too. Kinda boring. QUARTZ has been talking about a comeback too but nothing’s been promised yet. Kind of disappointing, you know? But, they’re giving us variety shows and things on the Youtube channel.”

“That’s good.” He said briefly. Then came a comforting silence. Mija looked at Mark eating and couldn’t help but feel her heartbeat faster. The only thing that came to mind was adoration. She was happy that it was Mark Lee. Mija was happy she felt loved by the best person on this Earth. Even though they’ve been dating for almost a year, she still felt the same as she did when they first became friends. She met Mark through Jinjoo and it was like sparks. Mija has always been cynical about love inadvertently. When people said they felt a spark, she thought that they were being dramatic. But when she first saw Mark Lee, she knew she had been wrong all along. She can’t help but chuckle about how she used to be before she met him. Married to her work, obsessed with her livelihood and nothing else. Mark is like her escape. She doesn’t feel like she has to maintain her image around him. Being around him is like a breath of fresh air. The only time she feels she can let her hair down is when she is around her members and Mark Lee.

“I love you.” She blurted out randomly. Although he was surprised, he obviously smiled and with out missing a beat, “I love you too.” Mija was surprised to hear it back. She expected awkward silence or an ‘I’m not ready’ Of course, she was perfectly fine with hearing this. She wanted him to feel comfortable. But hearing it back finally made her heart and ego swell. “I can’t believe I’m loved by the best person.” Mark’s eyes widened at that and laughed again, not used to hearing this from his girlfriend. “Shut up, no you.” They both smiled at each other and Mija grabbed his hand and held on to it. She was afraid that if she let go, she would see the reality of her situation again. It terrified her. But with Mark’s soft hand in her’s, she felt like she could take on anything.

Jinjoo doesn’t know when she fell in love with him.

They had met in 2015 when she was a trainee and he had first joined SM. Before she even thought of leaving. Out of everyone she knew, Kun felt what she felt. He was 19 and she was 16, but they understood each other fully. There was no romance, just pure friendship. She never looked at him as anything more than a friend and vice-versa. And leaving him behind in 2018 hurt the most. Not leaving her childhood friends, or her coworkers. Leaving him made her sob.

As soon as Jinjoo left SM, she felt uneasy about continuing her friendship with Kun long distance. But he made it work. Even through tough times like moving away, he was still there.

Maybe it was when she was standing in her own room for the last time. He had met up with her in her room to just chat. If anybody was going to know, he was going to be the first. She tried to find the words to say. It was dramatic, but she was leaving her childhood behind. She was leaving behind all the little joys and that hurt the most. “I’m leaving SM.” It felt good to hear that from herself. It was almost as if her own voice finalized the doom of her career path with this company. Jinjoo needed this.

“Then do it.” He said, squeezing her hand a little more. Jinjoo realized she loved him there. Instead of encouraging her to do something she didn’t want to, he made sure, and then encouraged her own decision. With him, she felt like she had a say in her life, despite what little was in her control. She almost told him of her sudden realization but decided against it. Jinjoo wondered how anyone life Kun could ever except the feelings of someone like her. So she waited.

Kun was silent, but he had many things to say. He wanted to comfort her but he wanted to hear the reason she was leaving. Deep down, however, he already knew. He knew how bad it hurt for her to watch everyone around her debut. Even the people that joined after her and hadn't been in the company for long. He remembered being with her to comfort her during those times, thanking God it was him and not somebody else.

He cared for her, almost a little too much. Kun wanted to see her succeed more than anybody.

Instead of asking her why he decided it was a question for another time. “Alright.” He breathed out and looked at her. She looked scared to see his response and then and there he felt his power over her. He knew that if he asked her to stay, she would. No matter how much it hurt her, he knew she prioritized their friendship over a lot of things. Kun didn’t like the fact but he merely smiled at her and grabbed her hand. “Go. Please. If you feel unhappy here, don’t let anyone decide for you. You’ve chosen to leave, right? This is what *you* want?” She felt unfazed by his hand, rather his attitude is what comforted her the most. She felt happy that her friend cared for what she felt. “Yes. I’ve been thinking about it for a long time but yes. I want to leave.”

Finally, after her debut, she was asked out. Instead of her mustering up the courage, *Kun* did. It caught her so off guard that she almost decline him because she thought it was a joke. But when she looked into his eyes, she could tell he was genuine. She was relieved she was with the best person.
