Well, shit.
I didn't really want to restrict access to my fics, but here we are. I was hoping to hold off a little longer, maybe until after I'd posted the one I'm currently working on. But, alas, that is not to be. That post I shared from @peneigh-dzredfohl earlier today was my tipping point: bot comments. Here's the post if you want to see it: click here
In short, if you're reading fics as a guest on AO3, and want to maintain your access to everything on the site, it's probably a good idea to open up an account. I suspect more and more fics will be locked as we tread ever deeper into the dystopia humanity seems to be creating.
Please, become a registered user on the Archive.
Thanks!

Red Flags to Look Out for if Your Kids Are on Social Media
By Lauren Adlam, Creator of Zown Social media has become a way of life for most, and like it or loathe it, doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. It has its strengths and its flaws, and as parents, it is up to us to help, to educate and monitor our children’s use of social media so that it can enhance rather than hinder their lives.   Most social media apps have a minimum age gate of…

Prevent third-party sharing
Visit your blog settings.
In the "Visibility" section, turn on the "Prevent third-party sharing for [your blog name]" switch.
PS: From what I can see, you can ONLY opt out from the APP version. The visibility section was not available to me on the web page of Tumblr!

"Having flesh for the first time when you've never needed any before is 'kind of creepy,'" Lucifer tells him. "It would be the same for you if I took your flesh away and made you flail around with nothing but your mind." - Lucifer to Sam on being in a vessel.

From Facebook to Twitter: How Social Media Companies are Collecting and Using Your Personal Data
Social media companies collect a significant amount of personal data from their users, which they use to target ads and improve their services. Here are some ways social media companies collect and use personal data:
Tumblr media
Profile information: Social media companies collect information about their users' profiles, including their name, age, gender, location, education, and occupation. This information is used to target ads to specific groups of users.
Activity data: Social media companies collect information about their users' activity on their platforms, including their likes, shares, comments, and searches. This information is used to create a profile of the user's interests and preferences, which is used to target ads and improve the user's experience.
Device information: Social media companies collect information about the devices that their users use to access their platforms, including the device type, operating system, and browser. This information is used to optimize the user's experience and to detect fraudulent activity.
Location data: Social media companies collect location data from their users' devices, which is used to improve the user's experience and to target ads to users in specific locations.
Third-party data: Social media companies may also collect data from third-party sources, such as data brokers or other apps that the user has installed on their device. This data can include information about the user's offline activities and purchasing habits, which is used to target ads more effectively.

In addition to collecting data, social media companies use this data in a variety of ways, including:
Targeted advertising: Social media companies use the data they collect to target ads to specific groups of users based on their interests and preferences.
Personalization: Social media companies use the data they collect to personalize the user's experience, including suggesting content that the user is likely to be interested in.
Product development: Social media companies use the data they collect to improve their products and services, including identifying new features that users want.
Research: Social media companies use the data they collect to conduct research on user behavior and preferences.
It's important to note that social media companies have access to a significant amount of personal data, and users should be aware of how this data is being collected and used. Users can take steps to protect their privacy, such as adjusting their privacy settings, limiting the amount of personal information they share, and using tools like ad blockers and VPNs.

I keep getting stuck in a loop, thinking about Murderbot staying aboard the Perihelion, with ART's crew -- who all know what it is. It's the first time it'll be on a ship as itself, not as equipment, or pretending to be something it's not. It won't be in hiding, either. Will it find an out-of-the-way corner to call its own? A closet or storage unit or something? Or will it continue to use the crew lounge, like it did when it was just ART and itself? Will the crew insist it take its own cabin in the crew quarters, since it's ostensibly part of the crew now? How will it react to that?
Murderbot didn't like having things until it had a chance to pick out its own clothes, and now it has clothing preferences and a security blanket favorite jacket and it doesn't mind wearing the Perihelion crew uniform despite the logo. It hasn't seemed to care much about its travel accommodations in the past, one way or another, though it's mentioned a few times now that it takes comfort in the way ART's medical tables are heated. (the parallel between ART keeping the medical table warm for Murderbot and Murderbot turning up its own core body temperature to provide comfort sure is Something)
I'm just thinking about Murderbot having a space to call its own. Not a cargo container or company cubicle but an actual room. And maybe it doesn't know what to do with it at first because it doesn't exactly need sleep or anything the way humans do... But still, it eventually finds itself with a second jacket. A pair of soft sweat pants with the Perihelion logo up the right leg. Its satchel hangs from the back of a desk chair. It might start collecting things that it finds interesting or aesthetically pleasing or that remind it of something or someone -- especially now that it knows, even if it won't acknowledge, that it has somewhere to keep them.
(maybe it's a place it could come to call home?)
