Kittypet crew from Deep Dive for the writing prompt?
Pick a character I’ve written and I will explain the top ~three to five ideas/concepts/etc I keep in mind while writing that character that I believe are essential to accurately depicting them. (Since I don't have refs for all of them, I'm just using google image cats for each one lol)
Tumblr media
Teddy Bear:
Gentle boi! Despite being a giant ball of floof, he's careful where he puts his paws and such
Nurturing instincts, good for Clan life. He might not be a voracious hunter or a strong fighter, but Ted is good at empathizing and helping Clanmates, from taking early morning patrols for them to helping when they're ill
Aro-Ace
Tumblr media
Ice Cube:
Quick learner and fast adapter. He's got good instincts on who to trust and he listens to them
This isn't a writing fact but Ice Cube has siblings and they all have names like Blizzard and Frost and he decided he wanted something sillier
Devoted to his husband and kits no matter what
Has an inherent charisma and fun charm and makes fast friends with most cats
Tumblr media
(Design by @scramblesscribbles)
Pringles:
Very touchy about his old life as a house cat due to being declawed. He'd rather die than allow humans to touch him again.
Wary of new cats and especially wary of a whole group of them, he's not the most excited to be a warrior
Misses his sister dearly, even though they did fight often
Tumblr media
Partridge:
A bit naïve, not understanding entirely what being a Clan cat entails. She simply wants kittens and assumes the forest is a safe place to do so.
That said, as she grows and learns, she becomes a very loyal warrior and mother
A stealthy hunter, but has two left paws in fighting.
Looking for a tom who loves kits and is generally sweet.
Tumblr media
The Kits:
Kitkatkit is a natural rebel. She hates following rules and she especially hates waiting. Think of her like an excitable anime protag.
Pavementkit is a quiet and gentle mediator between their siblings. When he gets older he and Ted will be good friends.
Picklekit is the anime protag turned up to a tHOUSAND. Ae loves bones and thorns and basically all the "edgy" teen stuff. Ae calms down a bit when ae gets older.
Clockkit takes the most after her biological mother. She's very independent and likes to do things alone. She likes being able to provide for others, but is a bit iffy about accepting the same in return

Three favorite foods: spaghetti, boxty, and the peach cobbler my mom makes

GOP Lawmaker Tried To Explain Critical Race Theory And Wow It Got Weird
GOP Lawmaker Tried To Explain Critical Race Theory And Wow It Got Weird
The Republican lawmaker behind a bill that would ban critical race theory in Alabama schools was asked to explain that theory.  State Rep. Chris Pringle told Alabama Media Group columnist Kyle Whitmire his bill was “pretty simple.” “All it says is you can’t teach critical race theory in K-12 or higher education in the state of Alabama,” Pringle said.  When asked what that meant, Pringle…

Marigold's eyes slowly opened. Quickly adjusting to the lights. She found herself in the medical ward. “How did I land up here? From what I remember, we were on a mission…” she thought.
Marigold sat up in bed. She sat, confused, for a minute. “Why… are my thoughts so fast? I mean, I’m not even thinking of that many things, or am I? I don’t understand.”
“Marigold, glad you’re awake. We have a lot to talk about.” Hank said.
She turned her head when she saw him. It looked like he was checking over some papers on a clipboard. “Or something?” Marigold furrowed her eyebrows. “What’s going on?” she asked.
“Well, what do you last remember?” he asked.
“We were on a mission. Something happened that landed me and Peter in here- wait- where is he??”
Marigold glanced over to her left. She took a sigh of relief when she saw Peter lying in the bed next to her. Still asleep. “Recovering from the mission, I guess…”
“Why are my thoughts so… fast? Like, I’m a fast thinker, but, this is different…” she said.
“That makes sense. Seeing as you swapped mutations with Peter.” Hank replied.
“I swapped WHAT with Peter?!” Marigold’s eyes widened in shock.
“The reason you’re here is that, during a mission, the mutant you two were fighting had the ability to swap mutations. They swapped your mutation with Peter’s. Because of the drastic change, you two lost the fight and got injured. Landing you here to recover shortly.” Hank explained.
"Is it permanent?” She swallowed. Her fingers fidgeted anxiously.
“No, I’m assuming it’ll end in twenty-four hours.”
“Assuming?” She frowned.
“I’m assuming that the time estimate is twenty-four hours. Not assuming that it’s permanent.” Hank said.
“Oh.”
“How do you feel?” He asked.
“Well, besides from fast thoughts, I’m a little sore, but I think I’m okay…” Marigold said.
“Alright. See if you are ready to walk around again, but take it easy. I wouldn’t try anything with powers yet, that’s actually what landed you in here.”
“How?” She raised an eyebrow in confusion.
"You, uh, ran into a wall accidentally…”
Marigold sighed. “Right…”
She turned her head when she noticed Peter was waking up.
“Hey, Peter… I wouldn’t try moving much right now. Just focus on waking up first, okay?” She said, turning to look at him.
“What the… Why is my head weird…?” He groaned. “What’s going on?”
“I’ll leave you two to get used to the… situation,” Hank said to Marigold. She nodded.
Peter sat up in bed. “Babe… why are we here?” He looked into her eyes.
Marigold took a sigh. “We got injured on a mission and… The mutant we fought could swap people’s mutation so… Our mutations got swapped…” She explained the bad news. “It’ll only last twenty-four hours or so, according to Hank.” She added.
“No… I don’t believe you… This is a big prank.” Peter shook his head.
“Nope. I’m being serious.” Marigold shrugged.
Peter buried his head under the covers. Marigold could hear him saying “No” repeatedly.
“It’s not that bad… We’ve been through worse…” She tried to cheer him up.
Peter uncovered his head. “Really? Like what?” He frowned.
Marigold sighed. “Ok, I can’t think of anything right now, but, it’ll be ok, cause we got each other.”
“Wonderful.” Peter rolled his eyes. “So, just to recap, our powers got swapped, meaning, you have super speed and I can freeze time?”
“Yeah. I didn’t know it felt like this when you said your thoughts are fast. It’s like they can’t shut up.” Marigold sighed.
Peter let out a short laugh at that. “Yep. That’s what it’s like in my head.”
“Did you know the reason I’m in here is that I ran into a wall with super speed and ended up injured?” Marigold said.
Peter laughed. “Are you kidding me? That’s hilarious!”
“Shut up! I’m still sore!” Marigold said. She threw her pillow at him. Accidentally using super speed, it hit Peter’s face at full force.
“Ow!” He shouted.
Marigold put a hand over her mouth to hold back, laughing. “Sorry!”
“I probably deserve it. I’m sorry I said that about you getting hurt.”
“It’s a little funny I’ll admit.” She smiled.
“I hate that I can’t run super fast right now but I am slightly interested in time powers…” A small smile grew on his face. He went to stand up. “I can’t wait to try it out!”
“Ok, but, don’t try anything yet. You’ll end up somehow getting everything frozen and not knowing how to change it back.” Marigold warned. “And besides, I need your help with super speed.”
“Alright, we can be each other’s guides.” Peter shrugged. He held out his hands for Marigold to grab onto. “Ok, just take it nice and slow.”
Marigold held his hands. Slowly standing up next to him.
“Ok… good! That’s good.” He grinned.
“This doesn’t seem too bad, I think I have it figured out.” She said.
“Ok, but, don’t-”
She didn’t even let him finish his sentence. Already speeding around the room. Sending papers flying everywhere.
“Wait, how do I stop. Oh shit! HOW DO I STOP! HELP!” she shouted before she ran into a wall. Again.
She fell flat on her backside. “Ow…” She groaned.
Peter helped her stand up. “Oh my gosh, babe, are you ok?” He asked.
“Yeah…” Marigold said. She rubbed her head.
“If it makes you feel any better, I ran into a lot of walls when my mutation appeared.”
“You know, it actually does.” She smirked.
Peter scoffed and rolled his eyes. “Yeah, alright.”
Trying out super speed, Marigold ran a circle around him and came to a stop. “I didn’t run into anything that time!” She cheered.
“That’s good! That means you’re getting better.” Peter grinned.
“Ok, I’ll help you out now.” She said.
“Oh, good. I was getting worried that I might accidentally freeze something.” He chuckled nervously.
“Just calm down for a second. A lot of this ability is about staying calm and in control.” She placed a hand on his shoulder.
“Ok, got it. So, like, what do I do? I’m assuming I don’t say a magic word.” He joked.
“Haha, very funny. Usually, I try focusing my energy into my hands, if that makes sense?” Marigold explained.
Peter nodded. “Ok… like this? I guess?” He raised his hands up. Feeling power surge from them. “Weird…”
“Did it work?” He turned to ask Marigold but saw she was frozen. “Oh, my gosh it did.” He whispered. “This reminds me of slow motion, but I don’t even have to move!” He grinned.
Peter focused his energy again and unfroze Marigold. “It worked, Mari!” He grinned.
“Good. Glad you figured it out.” She smiled.
In the distance, someone, probably a student, slammed a door. Causing Peter to jump. He lost control and accidentally froze Marigold.
“Oops…” He grimaced. Peter unfroze her.
“Let me guess, something spooked you?” She smirked.
“How did you know??”
“I could tell by the look on your face.” Marigold chuckled.
“Oh…”
“Don’t worry, happens occasionally, but you get used to it.”
“I’ll keep that in mind next time I try to scare you…” He muttered.
“Ok, now it’s my turn. Come on, show me your speedster wisdom.” She grinned.
Peter chuckled. “Alright. Sure. How about we work on running and stopping?” He placed his hand on her arm.

There’s been a lot of talk about critical race theory lately, and I’ve felt at a loss. I’ve heard so many conflicting things about critical race theory, I’ve gotten more and more confused.
So I did what middle-aged white men are prone to do — I asked another middle-aged white man. But not just any. I called an Alabama lawmaker, state Rep. Chris Pringle, R-Mobile, who wants to make it illegal to teach critical race theory in Alabama.
The 2020 Alabama legislative session ended last month, but Pringle is already primed for the next one. He recently pre-filed a bill — almost eight months before the next session is scheduled to start — and he’s been talking it up on the radio.
So what does his bill say?
“It’s pretty simple,” Pringle said. “All it says is you can’t teach critical race theory in K-12 or higher education in the state of Alabama.”
That is a short bill, if not a simple one. But it didn’t answer my question: What is this critical race theory educators would be forbidden to teach? Pringle has seen enough legislation to understand the law requires specificity. Many bills begin by laying out their legal definitions. How would his bill define critical race theory?
“It basically teaches that certain children are inherently bad people because of the color of their skin, period,” Pringle said.
That sounded very serious, indeed. Nazi-like, even. So I asked Pringle if there were any critical race theorists he could point to who have been spreading such toxic garbage?
“Yeah, uh, well — I can assure you — I’ll have to read a lot more,” he said.
I began to get the feeling that Pringle didn’t know as much about critical race theory as I had hoped. Were there other examples he could give me where critical race theory was being put into practice?
“These people, when they were doing the training programs — and the government — if you didn’t buy into what they taught you a hundred percent, they sent you away to a reeducation camp,” Pringle said.
Pringle was a little difficult to follow but this sounded serious. These people — whoever they were— sounded terrifying, and if there were reeducation camps operating in America, that would be big news someone like me should get to the bottom of. I asked Pringle, who were these people?
