Being on the spectrum I find something strangely comforting about rewatching a lot of generic fantasy movies - when I use the term generic it’s not an insult, just an observation. Seventh Son, The Last Witch Hunter, Clash of the Titans (2010), Van Helsing, I, Frankenstein, Hellboy 1 & 2, The Mummy, Priest, all movies I can put on in the background late at night and drift off to without so much as a shrug.
Something about the cookie cutter protagonist who‘s usually some combination of brave/funny/smart/tough/relatable with a tragic/sad/melancholy/irritating/stressful backstory facing off against a series of CGI beasties and an evil sorcerer/conqueror/English person with an axe to grind is calmly reassuring, like walking an old route from your childhood and knowing there’s nothing there to catch you off guard, because even if they add a new postbox or a gate is painted differently it’s still the same path as always.
Those movies and ones like them aren’t explicitly bad, and in fact some like The Mummy and Van Helsing are great, but they don’t stray much if at all from the good old Heroes Journey structure (big ups to my boy Joey C) and I honestly love them for it.
They’re the film equivalent of knowing you should try and cook a nice, healthy, tasty new meal and try to expand your appetite a little all while you fix yourself a simple mac and cheese, because despite what they say familiarity breeds comfort as much as contempt.

More orc thoughts to come, but for now I must slumber to the sounds of studio execs churning out swords and sorcery for the masses - farewell brethren

Airmail for mac shutting down

#AIRMAIL FOR MAC SHUTTING DOWN FOR MAC#
It's been around for a bit, development is continuous and it freaking WORKS! Further, if you buy the iOS version for a measly $4.99, there is no setup!!!! Literally! No tweaking individual accounts, settings or signatures! The app pulls all that in from iCloud!!! While I don't see the super necessary feature of templated snippets, I have submitted the feature request and am hopeful it will be implemented soon. $40!!! I opted for Canary for a few reasons. That said, everyday use with six email accounts (multiple lines of business) became as I said earlier slow, boring, cumbersome and I'll even add on, seriously problematic. A few months ago Newton announced that it would be shutting down its apps on all platforms, while others such as Spark have recently been updated to support new features available on iOS and macOS. Even have placeholders that are customizable on the fly. Slow, boring and cumbersome, I still put up with it because of the templated snippets or "Responses", as they are called within PostBox, that allowed for repeated use. LifeUnleashed's Experience I've been using PostBox for years. You can have a gmail account, but use their app(s). So from my experience, if you are in Tim Cook's hermit kingdom, just use their products if available. I'm not a Tim Cook fan, I think Apple succeeds despite him not because of him, I am not a fanboy, BUT it's hard to go past the. Some may think it's ugly, that is purely a personal preference and subjective, I don't. A colleague said just use the mail app, it works and is secure (by comparison) AND your mail is local, available on iPhone and iPad and plays well with Apple hardware. I don't think they 'got in', but they were certainly piggy backing of my email address. Recently I was invaded by one or more Russians (I assume Russian, addressees of svetlana and ivan and cyrillic alphabet) using my gmail address to relay a gazillion emails.

When he arrived at Madeleine's dwelling, ten minutes earlier than the agreed upon meeting time, he expected to knock on the knight-commander's door to no response. The cookie still fast asleep, or glued to the mirror in the process of making himself look perfect for their evening out.
What he certainly didn't expect, as he passed the postbox (recently emptied), stepped into Madeleine's well-kept garden, was the sound of a violin drifting across the front lawn. A classical piece that lightly adorned the evening air with intricate, scalic passages and ornaments.
Espresso stopped in his tracks. That couldn't possibly be Madeleine playing, could it? He'd never heard the knight play before, or even mention the instrument. Was he busy entertaining another guest, perhaps Mint Choco?
No, he thought, not likely. He couldn't say the piece was played with a master's hand, as he would if the concert musician had indeed come to call. There were slip ups in the music, minute, but noticeable enough to almost make him wince. A note skipped here and there, abrupt starts and stops.
But as the owner of the violin played on, seemingly finding their stride the further into the piece they progressed, Espresso couldn't help but let these errors slide, the music drawing him in with its honey-sweet tone. Every note, every measure was played with such earnestness, that Espresso knew it could only come from one person. And when the piece came to a close, the violinist - Madeleine - finished with a sustained vibrato that lingered even after the bow was lifted from the strings, and the mage couldn't help but sigh with disappointment.
Madeleine began playing a new piece, slower and stately, and Espresso took that as his cue to carry on. He moved from the spot where he was rooted, striding up the neat pathway to Madeleine's porch, and knocked on the door.
The music came to an abrupt halt.
He heard movement from within the house, then footsteps, then-
"If it isn't Espresso! And early for our date, too!" The door swung open, revealing a beaming Madeleine, clad in a handsome coat, dark with swirls of gold thread embroidered throughout, thrown over a freshly-pressed shirt and trousers, his long, blond hair tied back with a ribbon.
In his right hand, a violin bow was still clutched.
Espresso inclined his head. "It seems you're more than ready as well, Madeleine. Will your violin be accompanying us for the evening?"
As if noticing the bow for the first time, Madeleine twirled it in his hand. "Ah, I take it you heard my playing, then!" His grin turned almost sheepish. "I admit, it's been months since this bow last touched string. I'm quite out of practice."
Espresso couldn't help but quip, "Really? I couldn't tell."
Oblivious to the mage's sarcasm, Madeleine spun the bow once more, before catching it between his fingers, letting it slide into its proper hold. "Thank you! Perhaps one of these days, I'll perform for you properly."
With a genuineness that surprised even himself, Espresso said, "I think I'd like that... though I can't help but wonder, why did you never tell me you played before today?"
Madeleine set his bow down on the console near his home's entryway, and turned back around to face his boyfriend, humour in his eyes. "Why, my dear Espresso, you never asked!"
Espresso felt a smile tug at the corners of his lips. "True enough." He looked toward the darkening sky. "Shall we?"
Madeleine made his way outside the front door, to where Espresso stood. He shut it, then proffered an elbow to the smartly-dressed cookie beside him. "We shall."
The two made their way past the lanes of cookie houses. It was Espresso's turn to plan their date for the night, and his itinerary consisted of a turn about the new sculpture park that had opened, and a meal bought at the Barrel Inn, then eaten under the stars, at the top of the Star Candy Observatory.
As they walked, Madeleine inquired, "Do you play an instrument as well, Espresso?"
"As a matter of fact, I fiddle with the piano from time to time."
Madeleine's eyes grew wide. "Oh, how exciting! The two of us, both with a hidden prowess for music - we should try playing together!"
Hearing Madeleine's animated speech, Espresso nearly defected, said that he was far too rusty to play for an audience larger than... well, himself, but stopped. The strange sensation that warmed his chest when he heard the other's playing still remained though the music was long gone. And the thought of feeling it anew, of Madeleine feeling it too, if they played together, was quite a welcome one indeed.
"Name the day, and it shall be yours."
With his free hand, Madeleine tucked a stray strand of hair behind Espresso's ear. "I look forward to it," he said warmly.
Again, that sensation in his chest at the paladin's words, as if through magic foreign even to him... until the arrival of a certain knight.
He caught Madeleine's hand, and impulsively pressed a kiss to his knuckles. "As do I."

When I saw my third “how do I crawl out of depression” post in a day I had to write something. There is no silver bullet but I am a trained social worker who has lived with depression for over 15 years and hope there is something here to lighten your load
💜  Please let me remind you: it is completely ok and not your fault you are feeling this way. Feelings happen no matter if we want them to or not and sometimes, we do everything right and they still hit us upside the head. And needless to say, very few of us are having a great time right now. So please, be kind to yourself. Sometimes that is hard so please be kind to my friend (you) because they are pretty awesome and I will throw hands with anyone who says otherwise.
💜 Watch or read or listen to something familiar (if you need a suggestion, I am re-watching Phineas and Ferb and truly recommend) Studies have shown that watching a familiar show allows you to enjoy the emotions of the show with less anxiety or other negative feelings because you know how it ends.
💜 Try to eat at least twice a day. This isn’t always easy but its completely ok if you throw some frozen chicken in the oven or a bowl of soup or something that takes no energy. It is important to fuel your body when you feel you have no strength
💜 Try to shower. I know its not easy, there are days I literally have to crawl into the show. But it never fails to make me feel a little lighter after. Maybe a lot exhausted after but a little lighter. If you can’t manage a full shower, try to brush your teeth or throw some dry shampoo in your hair or just wipe off your face. Something to make you feel a little more put together.
💜   If you managed to shower, or really even if you didn’t, maybe try to throw on some clothes that you actually like. Braid your hair up nice, throw on some moisturizer, maybe even some makeup. If you can find something you like about your appearance it can push your brain in a positive direction.
💜 Try to change your scenery. Can’t leave the house? Try moving to the couch. Can’t leave your room? Try setting up pillows on the floor. Can’t leave your bed? Set up your nest on the other end of the bed. Small breaks in the chains of monotony will help push you out of the rut
💜 That being said, if you have any ability to, take a walk. Even if it is just to get the mail while huddling in your sweats and biggest hoodie. If you get to the mailbox and think you can manage to the end of the block? Look at you go! And who cares who sees you, if you are hiding in your hoodie no one will know, and you just look wicked comfy.
💜 Find a project that is consistent with your energy level. Something, anything, that will let you feel a little productive. Borrow your niece’s coloring book and coloring in a simple cartoon, just so you can finish something. Write a word vomit story just so you can get something on paper. Taking up a simple crochet project, I tend to make coffee sleeves just so I can say I made something. Bake something. Cookies make everything just a little better.
💜 Clean something: it could be your glasses, take those dirty dishes that have been building up to the kitchen, clean off one counter, throw a load of laundry in, anything. There are so many studies that show cleaning your space helps clear your mind.
💜 Interact with someone. Skype someone, or if you don’t have the energy, call someone and let them talk to you. Send an ask to someone just saying you love them. Write a stupid letter, even if you just draw your best friend a silly stick figure and throw it in the mail. (Look an excuse to walk to the postbox hiding in your hoodie).
💜 Be aware of your media feeds. Is it full of news that is pissing you off? Snooze that shit. Is it full of ‘friends’ who just make you feel bad? Unfollow. Are there any puppies? No? FIX THAT! Follow puppies and kittens and other silly things that will give you just a moment to smile.
💜 Most important than any of this: Be patient with yourself. Sometimes you can do everything right and still not push your brain to produce those yummy neurochemicals you need. That is ok. This feel will not last forever. I know that sounds too simple but really sometimes it is completely ok to hide in your blanket nest and consume media and just wait it out.
💜 This too shall pass. Today you may feel surrounded by bleh, meh, and ugh but beneath it all you are still an amazing human being and no matter who you feel right now you deserve love, respect, admiration, and devotion. I so glad you are still here and proud of you for existing

So, how many fanmails do you get a day? Your postbox must be always full with letters full of heart drawings or something. I mean, surely 70% of cookies are secretly in love with you.
That's one weird question to ask.... I don't really even check the mail that often. I'm always away from home on a case so don't exactly have time to just sit through letters.

mailboxes in New Zealand
Organise Work & Travel yourself
Aluminium composite panels consist of a sandwich construction of aluminium sheet (outside) and PVC (inside). The picture "Letterbox on street, Postbox Post New Zealand, Coromandel Peninsula" is printed using UV printing technology. Thanks to the floating suspension, it creates a modern ambience in your home. Admittedly, I was a little bit afraid of it - my grades weren't as good as usual and I had been told that a language test had been done. But in the end there was no reason to panic. The interview went smoothly and I walked out of the office beaming with joy, happy to have come a small step closer to my goal. The cargo ships usually only take a few passengers, but they are usually very well equipped and offer a high standard. Mail from Germany usually takes one to three weeks to reach New Zealand, but it depends on the postal company and the chosen service. If you want to receive a parcel in New Zealand, but don't have a permanent home, there is the so-called "Post restante". Read more about campervan hire New Zealand here.
But these times are over and since ca.
The picture "Letterbox to street, Postbox Post New Zealand, Peninsula Coromandel" is printed in UV-printing.
The connection with the shortest flight time is offered by Singapore Airlines, which flies the route to Auckland on the so-called east route via Singapore, and from there to Auckland.
These dogs may also strike if fruit was transported in a bag the day before.
If this is not a super-typical picture for New Zealand.

10 Minute Lesson Project: Initial Ideas and Brainstorming
24.01.19
Our new project this time around is to use the skills we have learned and the research we have done on memory, learning and teaching methods, to create a resource using art and design to educate a chosen subject and demographic. We must essentially design and teach a 10 minute-long lesson about whatever we want. In this post, I will just be detailing my initial ideas and how I plan to do things.
Initial thoughts
Initially, I must say that the thought of this filled me with dread, and I thought that I would never be able to accomplish such a thing. Though, at the very least, we are allowed to do it whatever way we wish. For example, I thought it over for a good hour and a half, and eventually came up with a decent idea with help from my tutor, which was to teach people the differences between British English and American English. My initial ideas were not really good, and I was just frantically searching around to try and find something to teach. My original ideas were to teach the periodic table(???), teach Japanese, which I thought would help me learn more if I were to teach it, but quickly dropped this idea as it would be just too embarrassing. Teach people to tie a tie, which would be incredibly boring and I would struggle greatly to reach the 10 minute mark. My final idea was to simply teach English, like the correct their, they’re, there, you’re, your etc. Again, I don’t think I could make a 10 minute lesson about something like that, since I don’t know how I would get my point across without it being a boring and talkative PowerPoint presentation.
The plan
Once settling on my (most likely) final idea, I had the idea to create a 3-5 minute animation essentially explaining the differences between certain words like pants, chips, faucet etc. using some nice graphics in Adobe Illustrator, quickly realising that it would most likely take far too long to create graphics for every single word + animate it with text, since I planned to use a lot of words in this (Still won’t completely rule out this idea though). Aside from the animation, I also thought that I would create some worksheets to hand out once the animation was finished, to see how much they remembered. That or they will be able to answer them immediately, since the topic is laughably easy for anyone who has been in the UK or US for at least 8 years, and already know the differences. The worksheet, by the way, will most likely be around 3-5 minutes long, much like the animation. The length of these things will all be decided once I’ve decided that the animation is long enough. To fill in the other 1-2 minutes or so, I plan on starting the lesson by briefly explaining what will be happening, and then at the end of the lesson, after the period where they must answer the questions is over, I will then display the answers on the board to let people mark their own work. I may or may not ask if anyone got full marks, though they most likely will.
A change of heart
Anyway, instead of creating all those graphics in Illustrator, I thought instead, I would create an actual short movie-type thing in After Effects using either stock footage, my own footage, stock photographs, or my own. I will try and make it as cinematic as I can, using black bars at the tops and bottom of the screen, and have images/footage panning across the screen slowly. Then I would have it maybe blur in the background and then have text move onto the screen using some of the techniques and skills that I’ve learnt. You can bet that I will be trying my best to draw certain aspects out as long as I can too. I want to avoid talking as much as I can to be honest, and although the approach that I’m taking doesn’t really showcase my illustrative or digital art skills, it may do me good to try something new for once, and show that I can do other things.
Content
I will be doing different categories of the differences. Below are the ideas that I’ve gathered for now, with help from this website:
Vocabulary - Pants-underwear-trousers etc., potato chips-chips-crisps-fries etc. (I’m not sure how I will be doing these first two ideas yet), faucet-tap, sneakers-trainer, cot-crib, fizzy drink-soda, sweater-jumper, mailbox-postbox, plaster-band-aid, drugstore-chemist, football-soccer, apartment-flat, holiday-vacation, the movies-the cinema, cookie-biscuit.
Spelling - motorway-highway, color-colour, behaviour-behavior, theater-theatre, meter-metre, organize-organise, traveled-travelled. (I find it amusing that Tumblr is redlining the opposite spellings here, saying one is incorrect).
Prepositions - I plan on rephrasing these examples below, but you get the idea of what I will be doing.
Tumblr media
Past Simple vs Present Perfect - I may or may not use this category, but if I were, I would definitely rephrase them again, and they would most likely be at the end of the video, as well as the previous category, since they are a little complex, though if you can follow the pattern, you may just know all of them at once.
Tumblr media
Regular or Irregular Verbs? - Another one that I may or may not use—these words may be way too easy, since there is an obvious pattern with them. But regardless: leapt, dreamt, burnt, learnt-leaped, dreamed, burned, learned.

AX2001 30 second poem adaptation.
For my poem adaption assignment for Mark we were asked to pick a poem from random and adapt it into an animation, Originally i wanted to use a poem called The Cookie Thief by Valera Cox but i felt that this poem had far to much narrative and potential to be an awesome different project i have decided to choose a different poem which ended up being Spike Milligan’s Poem a lion is fierce. I actually thought that because it was such a small poem that it would have been easier to recreate it into a poem but i slowly started to realise how wrong i was. Because the poem is quite adjective and doesn't really have any narrative i have been struggling to create an exciting and captivating script.
My first idea was to have an African scene with long grass a postbox, baobab trees in the background and a postman walking across the screen, next a lion would jump out and scare the postman and he would run away. but after discussing the idea with my tutor we both agree that the idea was very boring.
My next idea was to scrap the postman and lion characters and replace them with a milkman and as cat in a 1970′s style, i envisioned a somewhat style similar to the film Kes by Barry Hines, where there is a colour washed camera style to the scenes with a very northern feel to it. I had the idea to have a milkman turning up to deliver milk to a house, when he gets there he notices a cat curled up asleep next to a white milk crate and a small bowl, he grabs 3 bottles of the float and enters the garden to the front of the house, he replaces the two empty milk bottles from the crate and goes to stroke the cat to which it randomly scratches his hand and after a bit of cursing the milkman returns to his float and drives off leaving no milk for the cat. After i pitched this idea to my tutor he still didn't like the idea, he said that it has no character to the plot, its very predictable and quite boring, so back to the drawing board i went.
I finally have come up with an idea which he has to like, returning to the lion and the postman idea i have decided to have a scene within a suburban area where there are a few houses with lovely neat gardens and this one house with really long grass, a postman appears and he goes to enter the house with the long grass and on the front of the gate there is a sign ‘beware the lion’, the postman chuckles at the ridiculous sign and enters, he walks along the small path to get to the front door but with a rustling in the grass he stops and looks at where the noise was coming from, all of a sudden a lion pops its head from out/ over the grass and the postman shrieks and runs away, the front door opens and an safari explore looking man looks at the lion while shaking his head in disapproval, the lion slinks from the grass into the house and the man say to the lion “that’s why we don't get any mail”. hopefully my tutor will approve but to be honest im drastically running out of time before the deadline so i have to go ahead with it regardless.
I have decided to keep this animation simple, so I want to not be too fixated on the complexity of the style, so I have been looking at the art styles of Sir Qwentin Blake and Horst Sambo (red bull artist) or even a stop motion style like Parsley the Lion.

dazzle-camouflage replied to your post: … kinda wish there was a writing prompt for today...
WRITE ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER OF CHOICE GETTING THEIR HEAD STUCK IN SOMETHING. A GATE, AN URN OR A POSTBOX FOR EXAMPLE
rofl
Dazz saving me with a writing prompt here
ok, I can do this lol... let’s see...
Sedki should not have been in that house. But she was so hungry. Scavenging hadn’t been turning up all that much food of late, and most of what she found went to Bitey. Bitey got very grumpy when he wasn’t fed regularly. ... More grumpy than usual, that was.
Getting in had been easy enough. The big people never seemed to realize just how many entrances their buildings really had. The kobold had wriggled through a small opening near the foundation and found herself under the floorboards. Bitey followed. She maneuvered until she was facing him. The dire rat barely fit into the space, but he’d flattened himself down.
“Stay,” she told him. Bitey gave a snort that she thought meant he would obey. Bitey was a good rat. He usually followed her orders. She wiggled back around and started looking for a way up. After a few minutes she found a loose floorboard and managed to squeeze herself through the opening it provided. She sniffed. There was food here, she could smell it.
Her nose lead her to a counter. The tastiest thing she could smell was up there. She leaped up on to the counter, dangling her tail over the side. There! The smell was coming from that pot with the lid. It had words on it. “Cookie Jar.” Oooooh she liked cookies! No wonder it smelled so good! She walked over to the jar on all fours. It was big, nearly as tall as her torso. She took the lid off and set it aside then, overcome both by hunger and the wonderful smell of the cookies, stuck her head into the jar.
This... did not work as well as she had hoped it would. The jar was 3/4 empty, and no matter how she strained, her snapping jaws could not reach. She went to pull her head out so she could stick an arm in, but her horns caught on the inside of the rim.
Sedki squeaked in distress. She was stuck! She rolled back on her tail, bringing her feet up against the side of the jar to try and pull it off her head. It didn’t work, though the movement did bring some of the cookies within her reach. She twisted her head to snap them up and gulped them down, then went back to tugging against the jar.
It wasn’t coming off! She tugged as hard as she could, but her frantic motions only served to make her roll off of the counter. She gave a frightened wail as she felt herself fall, but then the jar smashed against the ground and she could see again! She was free!
Yelling from upstairs. Someone had heard her! Oh no! Where was the loose floorboard she had come up through? She couldn’t find it. As she was scrabbling around on the floor, a large human with a lamp came into the room. The light blinded her! She squeaked, covering her eyes and curling into a ball.
“What the... it’s a kobold!” she heard the man yell to someone else.
“Well kill it!” a woman’s voice answered.
“No! No kill! Please no kill!” Sedki squealed. Her sight was beginning to come back a little bit. Then there was a loud splintering sound, and Bitey came up through the floorboards. He faced the man, hissing. Sedki dived for the hole he had made as the man swore and reached for his sword. Bitey was faster, and sunk his teeth into the man’s leg.
“Good rat! Bitey come!” Sedki called from under the floor, then made for the hole in the foundation. Bitey followed... chewing the chunk he had torn from the man’s leg as they made their escape.
