maybe this is a bit of a useless point to make but it does bother me sometimes that estinien’s skintone gets lightened quite a bit. I don’t necessarily blame fanartists for this bc some renders/cgi trailers make him look paler than his in game model, but I just wanted to draw some comparisons. now the lighting can vary quite a bit, but I tried finding pictures in multiple lightings for comparison

he looks a little washed out/not well lit in this image but you can still tell its the same skin tone

Furthermore, here’s him next to fourchenault, who we know is meant to be somewhat darker because his dad is louisoix.

I don’t think this but specifically is that bad, there’s still a notable contrast between his hair and skin tone even if it looks to be a bit more tinged pink than he usually is, but it’s still comparable to fourchenault. The render though is eeeeeeeh

The countdown art also DEFINITELY makes him look a little paler. it resembles the previous render

I also wanted to point out this happened to y'shtola too somewhat. look at her renders compared to her model compared to the end walker trailer

ike she is distinctly pinker/paler as well. im not sure how the process of making the cgi cutscenes works but im fairly sure they use different models, so I generally accept that they lost some specifics in translation. there are other differences people have pointed out such as Zenos' nose being shaped differently in the end walker trailer so its bound to happen.

yshtola has a skin tone somewhat accurate design but estinien is DEFINITELY lighter. his eyes are off too, being a weirdly deep blue when his canon eyes are grey, so again it can be chalked up to lost in translation aspects but its still disappointing to see

im not really trying to argue that estinien or yshtola aren't "white" or white passing by our standards, but they really aren't pale and its kind of weird that they often get lightened in trailers/renders in estinien's case. especially when I see so much fanart drawing estinien as super bone white pale because they're probably looking at the renders that pop up first online if you search and show his whole outfit for design reference.

I do really appreciate it when I see artists draw them darker, it makes me very happy.

Taylor rainy day hcs

Taylor loves being in the rain, but I imagine his mom would ask him to take an umbrella, at least sometimes? Or Cass may sneak it into his go-bag other times, so he doesn't forget it.

Most often the umbrella is not used properly.

He's used it as a stealth item to hide from and avoid classmates and teachers that he doesn't like around town. Its a go to way to avoid awkward or annoying conversations. Taylor also enjoys striking poses with it on occasion, works great as a second sword of sorts. He can try super cool dual wielding poses or use the sturdy umbrella as a makeshift cane on the rare occasions he forgets his own at home.

When the rain gets extremely heavy and/or his legs are feeling extra achy that day. Taylor will sit down some place and rest the umbrella against something so he can sit under it. Probably play on his phone for awhile while listening to the rain drops. Probably gets an Uber back home when the rain stops! It depend on how long the rain lasts or how hard he zoned into his mobile games.

Or on the rare occurrence he isn't alone, he'll offer the umbrella to the other classmate (if they don't have one). Its mostly only happened during field trips or at the end of a school day. After the offer, they'll go their separate ways. Sometimes the person will return the umbrella while occasionally it'll need to be replaced. He's got money though and he wasn't really using it much anyway so that part doesn't phase him. To add to that, his mom is usually really happy when he says he offered an umbrella to someone, especially someone that happens to be a girl. She's been giving him the signature Swift fam "you've got this" thumbs up a lot more lately. If he's honest, sometimes the idea of romance is...a lot when it's not a strict 2d interaction. He stops offering the umbrella to people for a few months.

Things are different when his new sidekicks come into the picture. Firstly, when it rains, Normal offers him an umbrella at the same time as Taylor was offering it to him. They ended up accidentally hitting each other haha. Though Taylor's hand stung more than Normal's did given he was not wearing a mascot costume. The two get past some awkward apologies and talk about either music or school gossip.

With Scary, she skeptically accepted the umbrella but asked why he didn't use it for himself. No one's asked him before and Taylor passionately rambles about his love for rain and rainy day scenes in stories as they walk through town. Though sometimes Scary does tease that he must not be worried about getting sick from the rain because idiots don't catch colds, right? He takes some psychic damage with an on cue anime sound effect. Teasing aside, Scary is the first to send him a text on an actual sick day--usually a short, "you're alive, right?" type of message which is nice in its own way.

The first time getting caught in the rain with Link doesn't go at all like Taylor was expecting. Link doesn't have an umbrella like Normal did and doesn't ask why like Scary had. Instead, Link arches an eyebrow and looks at the blue with white polka dots umbrella in his friend's outstretched hand for few minutes and then back to Taylor.

He says, "Thanks and okay, we should share it though." Taylor slowly agrees and the two share it while he remains surprised. It was the first time he'd shared an umbrella with someone since his childhood friend moved away. He was so used to walking alone or keeping some distance when with a person that he'd forgotten sharing it was a thing. Link holds the umbrella above them as they leave school. They talk about sports games and anime, joking around and occasionally playfully jabbing each other with fingers or elbows.

When the rain gets harder though, Link bolts forward to find the nearest open shop. This ends up dousing Taylor with water pretty good! He makes some sound that he hopes the natural rain bgm covered up and runs after the athlete. They end up racing each other which was initially frustrating but ends up pretty fun. For some reason, running in the rain alone or with a friend gives this cozy, familiar feeling too just like sitting by a fireplace or campfire does. Maybe it was because he used to play in the rain with his mom a lot as a kid.

Lastly, Taylor walking with Hermie during a rainy day leads to a teaching lesson. They both had umbrellas and, like certain punk seekers of darkness, Hermie asked why Taylor liked the rain so much. Hermie chimes in to Taylor's rambles with his own fav rain-related stuff and mentions a certain musical number. One of the few musicals that Taylor knew that weren't anime related! Anyways, Hermie proudly shows off his performing skill by doing atleast some of Singing in the Rain which Taylor thinks is pretty cool. The two practice some of the steps for awhile until the rain stops.

#this is about Crisis Intervention Training for police which is supposedly supposed to reduce the use of lethal force / brutality in general #and like... it's well-intentioned. just not very effective. #and yeah yeah I've been part of the 'defund/abolish the police' crowd for a pretty long time #but there's still a part of me that hopes like... if people are putting all this effort into training cops to Not Kill Mentally Ill People #that that training would work???? at least somewhat???? #like. less people dying or being traumatized is always a good thing! and realistically it takes a long time to implement structures #to replace the police system #so I was hoping maybe CIT would help but really the main thing it does it make cops feel better about themselves #and (MAYBE) put more people in psych hospitals instead of jail #which. I guess is slightly better bc as fucked as psych hospitals are... most employers can't ask about your psych history. #we don't really... have evidence that it reduces the risk of injury or death to civilians #and like. ok I get that this is a joke but I would like to point out that Magnum P.I. was not copaganda. Magnum is a private investigator who frequently works against the local police. There was even an episode where he investigated the rape and murder of a woman by a cop who was being protected by his colleagues and the system (the same episode dealt with how cops' primary function is enforcing a system under which mentally ill people are designed to suffer because they frame a homeless vet with severe PTSD for the crime).

There is a recurring character, Lt. Tanaka, who is part of the police force and who Magnum sometimes gets important information and access from, but his characterisation as someone who is easily bribed is not exactly a favourable portrayal of the police either.

Magnum P.I. definitely has its flaws and maybe isn't exactly radical by today's standards, it's not like every episode exposes the corrupt and violent police force or anything like that, but it was definitely not a classic case of copaganda. And as someone who watches a lot of crime shows, I even perceived it as refreshing and unusual because it was very openly critical of institutions like the military and the police.

I am home from apartment hunting and I would just like to say I am extremely disappointed, as an able-bodied person, to learn only 1 out of the 13 complexes we visited had an elevator.

#like i can take the stairs its whatever i guess #but something i had on my checklist was accessibility #one place had wheelchair ramps but it doesnt do much when you have no elevator #apparently its florida law that a building less than 4 floor isnt required to have an elevator #but then all the buildings are less than 4 floors?!?!?! disgusting #my boy tried to placate me by reminding me that we are able-bodied which turned into me lecturing him #that able-bodied people have to advocate for disability rights #it also pissed me off because both his mom and my mom have issues with stairs #and ive told him many times i dont like using the stairs because there are never cameras in the stairwells #not to mention one of our main goals is to make new friends once we move and those friends might be disabled #we ourselves may become disabled one day. i already have joint pain. its super easy to break a leg #its sickens me that disabled people either have to pay more to live in a place with an elevator #or they have to pay more to have a first floor unit (yes in florida 1st floor units usually cost more) #also! most of the stairs were just plain gross! dirty and rusty and covered with mold #anyway apartment hunting is fun but largely sucks because theres so much to be disappointed by #several places just had trash everywhere. multiple wouldnt answer phone calls. one wont answer emails #none have cameras in the parking lot and had no policy regarding crime that occurs in their parking lot other than 'file a police report' #one place tried to convince us its normal to have roaches in the unit in florida even though only one place had them #we didnt even go into all 13 units because by the end my standards had gone up and my tolerance had gone down #so we left two places without completing the tour just because our reception was nonexistent and there was trash everywhere #my boy fell in love with a place with 1star ratings trash everywhere and a raccoon problem. send help #neo rambles #neo speaks #neo apartment hunts #apartment hunting #tw mold mentioned #mold mentioned #accessibility #disability advocacy #ableism
