the idea of public restrooms as "women's spaces" continues to confound me. you know who I hope is in a public bathroom when I go in?? no one. I would prefer no one else be in the bathroom. and if someone else is in the bathroom I am going to ignore them as much as possible. I did not go into the bathroom to connect with other women. I went into the bathroom to piss and/or shit. it's a toilet's space, not a women's space. shut the fuck up and let trans people piss and shit in peace. let's all continue to avoid eye contact with each other and any and all interaction in the toilet's space.

What order do you take pills in?

#so yes you shotgun em all at once #but!! the actual reason I chose a secret fifth option is because #one of my meds comes in the foil and gets popped out one at a time #but the other is in a pill jar with like 50 of the suckers #because it’s much harder to fish out one single pill from the jar and deal with the safety lock #I get that pill first #then I hold it the whole time until the second pill is ready #at which point I take them together #for more clarity the more important pill is in the easier foil packaging #so I’m doing the exact opposite of most important pills first. I see a lot of Miya twins fics using words like “ya” and “yer” to show their accent but I’m genuinely a little confused because like,,, doesn’t everyone talk like that? Like it takes significant effort for me to pronounce you and your/you’re like my mouth feels weird saying it 😭

#I’d say it’s multilayered #I have other characters using ‘ya’ for sure #but while other characters switch between ‘you’ and ‘ya’ #the Miya twins exclusively use ‘ya’ (unless I can’t make it work for some weird reason #there’s also other identifiers like in ‘are you alright’ I might instead say ‘are ya doin alright’ #because the thing about saying ‘ya’ and dropping the ‘g’ off a verb is that they’re already categorized #for decades and decades authors have been writing accents that way #your brain is practically trained to recognize it as long as enough identifiers are used #and there’s other combinations too. I often will change the sentence structure to really punctuate it #so ‘are you alright’ becomes ‘you doin alright?’ dropping the world ‘are’ entirely #we don’t really use southern accents in Florida but we do hear them here and there #it makes it very easy for me to imagine exactly how an accented person might sound or say something #and I also have the ability to influence other characters speech in the setting #so like if I always have hinata say ‘ya’ then I can switch it to ‘you’ just when he’s with the Miya twins #I also give the Miya twins access to words no one else would say in my fic like ‘y’all’ #you get mocked in Florida for saying y’all so it’s a word I’m very cognizant of #(it’s a weird kind of mockery that comes up only in certain social circles. it’s complex) #I think of it all on a scale of not formal to very formal #I want most characters kinda in the middle but I want the Miya twins leaning closer to the informal side #I don’t think anyone here says ‘yer’ so it’s a very standout word to me and not one I really use #haikyuu #text post #writing #writing accents #accents #linguistics #writing linguistic #love the 4 American accents: none and country and New York and surfer #(I know there are more but broadly speaking there are four)

that post about how young people use computers these days (or rather, how they don’t, instead preferring to use their phones) got me wondering

by computer skills i mean basic skills like typing, navigating menus/directories/folders, using word processors or other programs, using removable storage, etc. NOT computer science or programming.

#majority here #middle school and I can touch type #that being said context is necessary #I had access to a computer from like the age of 4 (for basic things; no internet) #my school had a single computer in the whole building when I was in 1st to 4th grade #my brother was in high school and also attended this school #I transferred to a different middle school to finish out 4th grade and the next year we got computer classes in 5th #there was a whole computer lab for us to learn BUT #I had tutoring during computer lab so I only ever attended like two lessons and I didn’t finish either of them #I could type okay at this point in time but not by touch type #it wasn’t until high school when I decided I wanted to touch type so I taught myself #I learned on my home computer (which still did not have internet access) #at that school we had no computer class because it was a real small low budget place #but once you reached a certain grade all your classes switched from books to computers #you didn’t need typing skills for these computer classes through it was largely multiple choice stuff #and we weren’t allowed to take notes on the computer either so yeah #polls #tumblr poll #I should disclose I was a really good typer for someone who couldn’t touch type #because I was already writing silly little stories at that point in time #I do think I’m a better typer now though that I can touch type #I’ve hit 70wpm during one of those tests #and I highly highly doubt I’d have done that well if I couldn’t touch type #school polls #computer literacy #computer literacy poll
