Podcast of the Day: Monstrous Agonies
Monstrous Agonies by H.R. Owen
The Hook: From werewolves in the doghouse to new ghouls at work, there's no problem too strange for this weekly advice segment, from the UK's only dedicated radio service for the creature community.
Favourite Line: When I referenced 'bridezilla' in the introduction to one of our letters, I spoke unthinkingly, and caused distress and hurt to our listeners in the kaiju community. I sincerely apologise, and take full responsibility for my careless perpetuation of this harmful stereotype. Thank you to everyone who got in touch to bring this to my attention. - Episode 3
Thoughts: Monstrous Agonies is very relaxing listen. H.R. Owens as the Presenter has one of the smoothest voices in the podsphere that's always a joy to hear. They have a brilliant talent for giving the distinctive voices to those writing in for advice.
The show is about people from the creature community writing in for advice about love, relationships, and awkward situations that apply to their unique situations that come from being supernatural beings. Lots of the advice given is very good advice that might cross over to human listeners tuning into the podcast as well.
Episodes are bite-sized with two letters per episode and it's a very easy podcast to fall into for a few hours, especially if you're looking for something positive and soothing.
Transcripts Available: Yes
Patreon: Yes
Lupines, Ghouls, Banshees, Trolls, Questing-Beasts, Apparitions (LGBTQA) Characters: Yes
If You Liked: Solutions to Problems, Murray Mysteries, Love and Luck, or Neighbourly you might like Monstrous Agonies
Enjoying Monstrous Agonies? Please reblog and spread the word. Podcasts are usually passion projects and need the support of their listeners to get the word out. Catch you later!

Happy Audio Drama Sunday! I heard so many good shows this week, let’s goooooo
🥃 I started listening to @breakerwhiskey this week, and I’m on episode 21 (which is nothing, it’s microfic), and it is so compelling. Lauren Shippen said in episode zero that she misses the improvisational feel of early audio dramas and that really comes through in this show—the wandering of the story reflects the wandering of Whiskey herself. I can’t wait to see what happens next.
🎵I am not alone in my reaction to the new season of @hellofromthehallowoods, which I think goes something like, “Wh—who—but—Arnold?????” (Seriously, Arnold???) but I love a mystery, and I love how linear this season is starting out. I’m sure that it’ll all get more complicated soon.
💔 Have you all heard Josie’s Lonely Hearts Club? It’s a call-in advice show from a fictional radio station and it is HILARIOUS. Until this last episode, which got SAD. It's a partially improvised show, so the whole thing feels so incredibly human and it always hits. Please listen, more fictional advice shows all around.
🐺 The Midnight Burger/The Amelia Project crossover was exactly as delightful as I expected. We got two shows that love historical figures and putting people in the deep freeze. What could go wrong! Absolutely nothing. With a crossover episode I always wonder if there will be enough character interaction to slake my insatiable character dynamic thirst and for this one I definitely think there was.
🍺 Inn Between dropped an episode of Dragon’s Rest on their feed this week, and I'm here to say that we did that because it's frikkin hilarious. This last episode was so good, especially with Shax trying to talk to a bartender and the bartender getting mad that Shax was complaining about her friends and not having a professional business conversation. I love you, southern-sounding bartender, and I love you Shax.
🩸Hemophobia continues to scare the heck out of me. This series, Camp Havenside, ended exactly how I expected it to, with the extra twist of that horrible half-possessed state Sam is in. Lordt. Listen to this show. Mind the content warnings. Then like, message me about it, it has taken permanent residence in my brain.
🎭 Oh Malevolent, you never disappoint me. I adore the twists the season finale took, and the real danger Arthur and John were in had me on the edge of my seat. How are we gonna get outta this one boys! Frikkin Kayne.
💎 As it ever is, @kingmakerpod was a blessing visited upon my podcatcher. Oh man though, Lucas Lando, what a scuzbag. Like maybe the worst villain yet in this series for me, and I'm including the psychic child. Lando's just unsavory. The action scenes in this episode were excellent, and I love the use of Pocket Cinnamon. For a minute when they were looking for things in the barn that don't conduct electricity, I was very worried for the cows. Honestly now a little surprised they didn't explode a cow. Hey guys, why didn't you explode a cow?
🌈 I've been listening to this actual play, @ourstoriedinsight, and it's about all the typical actual play stuff--a party of misfit adventurers, thrown together by circumstance, trying to stop the end of the world. What stands out about this one is its wonderful sound design and its tone--it's so introspective and kind. The characters are great too. I would die for Vishakapar. If you like an actual play and you don't want to wait for it to get really good, please check out Our Storied Insight.
As for personal news, boy oh boy am I working hard on the Dead! Pray for our recording schedule these next couple weeks. As for Inn Between, we'll be putting up an episode this week that is a true banger, I hope you like it.
That's it for me this week! If you like what I do, send me a tip!

I have three modes of audio drama completion.
The first is where I listen to a first episode, like it well enough, and then listen to the rest at a metered pace across a few weeks or months, depending on the size of the back catalogue.
The second is where I listen to a first episode, get immediately, ravenously obsessed and consume the whole show within 1-2 days.
The third is where I start listening to a first episode. It doesn’t really stick. I might try the second episode. I might not even finish the first. I move on, listen to something else. I’m reminded of the show again - either by fans of the show itself or by the show’s own social media presence, because even if I didn’t get into the show itself, it’s still nice to keep up with some accounts. I give the show another shot. Start episode one again. Repeat the cycle. Maybe I get a few more episodes in because I’m making a concerted effort now, but still, it doesn’t stick. When I listen to other new episodes, I don’t feel drawn back to this one. I leave episodes downloaded but unlistened for a while as a reminder to myself. I might delete it from my podcatcher altogether if I go long enough without being drawn back to it. I tell myself I gave it a shot, but I’m not obligated to listen to every show, and some just aren’t for me. Months pass. I’m reminded of the show again. I’m out of in-season episodes for my favorites. I have a migraine, or I’m tired, or I just don’t want to deal with jumping from show to show to show for something to listen to while I work. I re-subscribe to this show. Download a handful of episodes. I press play without expectations and get to work. I listen to two years’ backlogs in a day and am left checking the release schedule and scratching at the creator’s door.
Sometimes, it just takes a while to click.

We are back! We discuss the current Kickstarter Campaign Dynamite Comics is running to bring back the Gargoyles comics published by Marvel in the 90’s (featuring art by Amanda Conner!) and the canon Gargoyles comics published by SLG in the aughts; and we’re joined by Gargoyles’ colorist, Robby Bevard; Bad Guys artist, Karine Charlebois; and series creator, Greg Weisman!!!
But we need your help! As of this posting, Greg Weisman’s Twitter account is still hacked, so he has been unable to use that platform to spread the word! So we need you, the fans, to come in! Spread the word! Participate in the Kickstarter! Figure out which version of the books works best for you! And let’s show Disney that this is a viable property! Not just a little property with a small cult following, but something truly viable! So spread the word! Reach out to anyone you know who would be interested! Tell them about this Kickstarter! Tell them about the comics! And tell them about our podcast!
We then give our First Impressions on Gargoyles #11 and Dark Ages #5! It’s the penultimate issues for both series before Gargoyles Quest kicks off in the coming weeks! Comic book spoiler talk begins at 25:21 and ends at 49:38.
Finally, Greg Weisman delivers his State of the Franchise Address! Where we’ve been, what we’ve accomplished, and what we have to look forward to for the 30th Anniversary! More comics! A convention get-together and maybe even more than that!
Don’t forget to participate in the Kickstarter!
Available on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Amazon Audible, Spotify, and your podcatcher of choice! And join us on Patreon for the Exclusive Video Edition! Although, not so-exclusive for this installment, as we’re making the video edition free on YouTube!

Hex Positive is coming to YouTube!
As we close in on 200k audio downloads, I have decided it’s high time for Hex Positive to conquer another media platform. So after a fair amount of contemplation and a crash course in video editing, I have decided to create a podcast playlist on my YouTube channel. Thus far, I’ve mostly used the channel for a few Q&As and some proof copy unboxing videos, with bonus cat content. And now, it will be the home of the video versions of Hex Positive. Nothing fancy, just title cards for the most part, but I may add bonus content later on down the line. It’s nice to have the option!
The first three episodes will be posted this evening and more will be added in the coming weeks until the entire back catalog is uploaded. Once I’m caught up, new podcast episodes will be added to the channel at a short delay after the usual first-of-the-month audio drops.
The show is back in full swing and I’ve got LOTS of ideas to share, so make sure you’re subscribed to Hex Positive on your favorite podcatcher and add the Hex Positive playlist to your YouTube lineup! (And make sure you go say hi to the other fantastic shows on the Nerd & Tie Podcast Network too!)

Audiodrama Sunday 4/7/2024
Lots of stuff to listen to this week. I really need to stop starting these writeups at 11:30pm on Sunday evening.
Loved the new Dear Liisphyra this week. I thought that the sponsor for this episode was really funny. I laughed out loud and looked like to an insane person to some guy I was walking past when they said that every weapon box comes with 50 feet of hempen rope.
Season 2 finale of @backagainpodcast! Man I love the themes of this show. It's such a well written tragedy, the dramatic irony is so good. Also I desperately want to know more about the other Soldier. We know several very relevant details about him but very little else.
New @spoutlore-blog was fun. Billie is such a good character, Jessica plays the "immortal child" trope so well. This show really puts the coolest worldbuilding you've ever heard with the dumbest dick jokes in existence. I still haven't gotten over the spider and the hummingbird.
Speaking of Spout Lore, the new Rude Tales of Magic episode has Abdul Aziz as a guest. He was a great guest, his style of humor fits perfectly with the setting of Piss Harbor. Are all the characters he plays street rats with a heart of gold. Excited to see who they bring on as guests in the future. They had Zac Oyama a few episodes ago, I would be excited to see more Dimension 20 people.
The new @midstpodcast was super interesting! Every episode in this season they've introduced another way that the Trust is incredibly fucked up. Why can't we go back to the Mother's Merciful, they were so nice.
Somehow I fell behind on @storiesfromylelmore. I'm not sure how that happened, I think my podcatcher didn't update or something, because I've been listening to new episodes of this show immediately. The second most recent episode was great, with Rion going through werewolf puberty. The most recent episode had some really good character work, with character development for all 3 main characters. I love this show so much.
New episode of SCP: Find Us Alive. A new Dash Two being created is really interesting, we've only had Dumptruck and Hiway Robbery for so long it's weird for there to be a third one. Where did they even get a bird?
I reached the crossover with Forgive Me in @kingmakerpod. Forgive Me is such a grounded show, especially by audiodrama standards, which tend to be way out there, so it's so funny when they cross over with shows that have such a wildly different tone and premise. The character interactions were on point though.
@camlannpod the fairy world! This show continues to have really cool takes on myths. The idea that you can shed a Name simply by going by something else is interesting. Could some random person start going by Lancelot and gain magical powers? The reveal at the end was great too, both from a worldbuilding standpoint and a character perspective.
Man that really was a lot. Lots of stuff to look forward to next week as well!

Hello, Tumblr!
Hiya Tumblr! This is the official Solarpunk Presents podcast account, which will be posting our podcasts (bimonthly... every two weeks ... however you like to say it), posts from our blog https://solarpunkpresents.com and reblogging / liking excellent solarpunk content. We're just starting up our second season, so we don't have a ton of content right now, but watch this spot for podcast episodes that explore the people and projects working on bringing us a better world today. The podcast is cohosted by Christina De La Rocha and Ariel Kroon, who is the one writing this post and talking about herself in third person like a weirdo.
If you listen to our show and like what you hear, leave us a nice review on your podcatcher platform? We'd super appreciate it. If you have some money to spare and would like to support solarpunk content, we also have a Patreon, where Patrons get early access to our episodes + bonus content sometimes, when we get a minute.
Stay solarpunk!

What an amazing bowl of word salad! Yes, those words are all in the right order, and this week, V and Emily explain how, why, and who the culprits were in this fandom wank of epic proportions. It's got everything. Cannibal mermaids. Chinese-Pakistani sex trafficking survivors. Politician RPF writers. Lin… Manuel… Miranda. This is truly one of the fannish implosions of all time. Were you involved in Hamilton fandom? Did you read either of the fics in this tale?
This Week In Fandom History is a fandom-centric podcast that tells you… what happened this week in fandom history!
Two episodes today! We're trying to catch back up to being THIS WEEK in fandom history, so keep your eyes and ears on your podcatcher this week!

May 27: Are you a cat-owner? Do you have pictures of cats to share? Participate in our Caturday! It’s fun for the whole fan community. After all. every cat is the Curator’s cat.
Get Silly! The final 4 days of May are dedicated to three specific fan-favorite categories, much looser in structure:
May 28: Stables Sunday is a great day to share more work featuring canonical stables residents such as Bull or the Wil-o-Wisps, headcanon creatures that might additionally be housed by the Museum, or even continue ‘Curator’s Caturday’ by sharing some non-feline creatures from your personal camera roll.
May 29: Man with a Voice Monday is all about The Man with a Voice like Honey and Chocolate and Coffee all at once. Anything additional that happens to be Man with a Voice-related? Share it, post about it, talk about it on this day!
May 30: Audio Tour Guide Tuesday is Guide’s special day. All about the Guide. Much like Man with a Voice Monday, Tour Guide Tuesday is an extra day dedicated to the Audio Tour Guide.
May 31: Wrap-Up Wednesday is a leftover free-space day! Did you happen to miss a day during this month long celebration and you want a chance to post, share, or talk about something from earlier in May? Do it on May 31st! This blog, @audiotourguide will continue sharing anything in the #mistholme month tag up to 2 weeks after the 31st as well, just to keep our celebration and appreciation alive!

Happy Audio Drama Sunday! Last one of the year! There are so many amazing shows I listened to this year--Gastronaut, Kakos Industries, Madame Magenta, Dungeons & Daddies, Cry Havoc! Ask Questions Later, Bronzeville, Deviser, Ghosts in the Burbs, The Silt Verses, Fall of the House of Sunshine, The Ballad of Anne and Mary, Eliza: A Robot Story, Eeler's Choice, Hemophobia--this list isn't even comprehensive! But here is what stood out to me this week. (As always, some spoilers follow.)
🦸‍♂️ I've had Superhuman Public Radio on my radar for a while, but I finally got a chance to listen to it this week. For lack of a better way of putting it, the structural integrity of this show is flawless. It sounds exactly like listening to NPR, and it's funny and clever with some really incredible worldbuilding. It's everything I like about listening to local news without the stress of it being local news that affects me. I love it.
✨ I'm also new to Breathing Space, but the Firefly vibes are off the charts. I love any story that is basically just Anticapitalists in Space, but the western vibes of this really make the stories hit home. I especially liked S1E2, "A Rat Among Falcons," because who doesn't love a scruffy nobody being incorporated into a found family? S1E5, "The Salvage of the Valentina Tereshkova" was also a really excellent space horror story. I can't wait to see what they do next. And that theme song tho, right??
❤️‍🩹 @thefringespod has been making incredible use of their new full cast, and I love the twist that this season is driving home--it's not a story presented to you, the listener, it's a tragedy that the mute second character is helping to undo. The softness of the family that Pine Gonzalez spent the whole first season describing comes through beautifully in the work of the actors.
🌊 Modes of Thought In Anterran Literature is always a little bit unnerving, but this week our professor faced the horrors of...rich people. Like, REALLY rich people. "You're already paying for private security?" Absolutely chilling conversations. There was a headline this week about a bunch of Silicon Valley millionaires trying to start a utopia in the desert, which works great all the time of course, and I thought of Anterra, tearing itself apart, and about the professor, who doesn't exactly make great choices, tearing himself apart too.
🐺 Things are getting very scary on Palimpsest! Is this a werewolf season?? It is VERY gothic, which is fun in a Jazz Age setting. It feels incongruous, which just adds to the horror. The quiet build of Palimpsest never disappoints me.
📦 Bless those children on @storiesfromylelmore, they're so darn good. ItMe has always been excellent at writing along the span of human nature, and seeing them do it with the three kids in Stories from Ylelmore is wonderful. Of course, a lot of the credit has to go to ItMe's flawless line delivery too. The kids feel very real, even while they're delivering magical packages from a bookstore to the head of the local witch coven.
🐦 The Amelia Project's Twelve Days of Christmas thing has been so funny. I half hope we never find out who's tormenting Alvina. The only downside is that now I have the song stuck in my head constantly, and seeing that it's like, the second-worse Christmas song, this is a problem. The show's worth it, though.
🕯️ What should appear in my podcatcher this morning but the second episode of Flickers! I was intrigued by that first episode, and this second one is really bringing home the isolationist horror. I can't wait for the next installment.
👽 Among the Stars and Bones is coming back! It's coming back this month! This is one of my all-time favorite sci-fi shows, everyone, if you're not on board yet then GET WITH IT, because this next season is guaranteed to blow your mind.
That's what I've been listening to! Here's what's going on with me:
🧟‍♀️ The Dead has been posting episodes from its second series, Ephemeris, which I wish we could have spent more time on, because the premise is so good. Zombies. In. Space. My gosh. David Ault and Kayla Temshiv in particular are killing it on this story. It'll be a few weeks before our next story premiers, but I'm REALLY excited about that one. Tune in!
Finally, the most important news...
💚Inn Between Returns on Wednesday!🏹
AAAAAAAAAAAAA
I am THRILLED about season five. The cast is killer, the story is fantastic, everyone's bringing their A-game, and I can't wait for you to hear it.
That's all for me! Happy New Year everyone!
(If you like what I do, I'd love it if you could send me a ko-fi! Especially since my car just frikkin. Died. So rude of it. Thanks!)

Wish List For A Dumb Phone
I have a dumb phone with 20 days of standby time. It's getting old. I might need to buy another one soon.
I only really need that phone for phone stuff. It's small and light. It's my backup in places where my smartphone does not have reception.
A replacement would need physical buttons, and have bar or flip phone form factor, preferably in a blight green or orange colour. It should be a dual-SIM quad-band with GSM for basic phone calls, SMS and MMS, and 4G or 5G connectivity. The web browsing or download speed doesn't really matter.
In terms of featurephone features, I don't need twitter, facebook, whatsapp, or any of those built-in apps. I want the ability to take pictures, play MP3 and OGG files, record audio, play audio, browse the file system, and assign audio files as custom ringtones. E-mail is optional.
The hardware features I want are an SD card slot, a 240p camera or better, a light, FM radio (DAB would be a plus), a replaceable battery, bluetooth for tethering and audio headsets, and USB-C for tethering, charging, and file transfer. It doesn't have to be USB-PD or USB 3.0.
There are some features that would be nice. It would be nice to have a playlist that I can sync with a desktop podcatcher application. It would be nice to be able to move contacts between the SIM card and the SD card in bulk, and to sync contacts with my NextCloud address book with a desktop application. It would be nice if I could mount my phone's file system via USB.
All these features boil down to this: My dumb phone is a bit beat up. I wish I could just replace it with a slightly newer model with USB-C, but otherwise it doesn't need apps or wlan.
There is no phone out there that is just slightly better than my old dumb phone, and can be charged via USB. Once you have all the hardware and features, you might as well slap Android on there, and a more powerful processor, and sell it on features.
It's sad. There are many dumb phones that are almost better than my old one. There is one that is just like my old one, but with 4G instead of 3G, but no USB-C. There is one that looks great, but all reviews say the software is buggy and bluetooth doesn't work reliably. There is one with loads of features that has a couple of days of standby time, not weeks.
There's also one that has all the features but costs more than a smartphone.
All I really want is a Nokia 215 with USB-C, tethering, and a comfortable way to sync my stuff to a PC.

Happy audio fiction Sunday, folks! All being well, I'll be back with my first audio fiction Sunday blog post of 2024 next Sunday, but today I wanted to quickly shout out two podcasts which returned this week!
I was delighted to see Among the Stars and Bones back in my podcatcher, with a part 1 of a prologue set before the events of season one. The episode was a) very fun and b) very painful because of how much worse it made the events of season one feel! I'm very excited for season two, and to see the direction this podcast will take next!
Inn Between is back for its fifth season, and we meet a (mostly) new party of adventurers. I can tell this season's going to be a lot of fun, with a really interesting group of characters. I was very grateful to receive an advance copy of the episode, and I wrote about it in a post this week!
