I just can’t help but feel that the hope is worth the fear. That life isn’t about the people who’ve hurt you. It’s about the people who didn’t.
Camlann is a hopepunk postapaclyptic podcast set in the wilderness of Wales and based on Arthuriana and other folklore. It's only a few eps in and a lot of fun so far!

Hello hello! I'm just here to recommend a podcast: Camlann! It's a post-apocalyptic urban fantasy story based in folklore and arthuriana, and a big theme is the power of names. It's very good and very queer and there are only seven half-hour episodes out so it's very easy to get into! I love it a lot <3
thank you for the rec!! sounds cool and thank you for mentioning its not that far along yet, i find it so difficult to get into media with hundreds of episodes. everyone else: go check this out

It’s been about one month since Aaron Bushnell, active duty serviceman, immolated himself in front of the DC Israeli embassy.
Today the UN called for a “non-binding” (qualifier added by US) ceasefire for the remainder of Ramadan (~two weeks). Meanwhile, yesterday Biden unilaterally approved another 3 billion dollars to be sent to Israel, begging the question, will Israel truly abide by a ceasefire?
In the past (years, not since Oct 7) ceasefires have been enacted, which Hamas and Palestinian Authority have respected, but Israel meanwhile would continue to control Gaza’s water, food & medical access, and yes, inflict violence upon Palestinian peoples. Knowing this, what is the incentive for Hamas to abide by a false ceasefire? when Israel now continues to murder children, rape women and cripple a population indefinitely.
Today I found my first real bit of info re: the Arab Spring of 2011. I worked within a large box bookstore at this time and through my years there, I was unable to find any literature on this topic. It’s been about 6 years and this may have changed, but typing “Arab Spring” into the billion dollar search function, there were NO RESULTS. This doesn’t mean the info wasn’t out there, somewhere, only that access wasn’t condoned, and academic thought was likely restricted (or … that’s how I understand it).
This is the podcast I found today and learned from. The show “Throughline” is really worthwhile in its entirety, but this episode shows us the power of social media and organizing dissent. On this near- anniversary of Aaron Bushnell political and radical act, I think a lot about the man in Tunisia who self immolated in January of 2011. His name was Mohamed Bouazizi, and his death sparked the Arab Spring,
Find it here.

are you an audio drama fan? if you are can you please listen to Achewillow? It's an audio drama podcast available free wherever you prefer to listen to podcasts, including Spotify. Unlike many audio drama podcasts, this is a single person narration and there is no meta component — it is like listening to a story being told with enhanced elements rather than a play being enacted or the recording being a known aspect of the story.
If you like T. Kingfisher (I'm specifically thinking of Nettle and Bone) Achewillow has a similar vibe to it. I hesitate to use the term "cozy horror" as it is only a little bit horror and I don't particularly like cozy as a genre modifier but I'll have to stick with that for now. The brief synopsis is that a very young french canadian woman with a passion (or as she might put it, a destiny) for cooking stumbles into a strange inheritance from an unknown long lost great aunt — a small coffee shop and bakery and the building it occupies, now hers if she chooses to accept living in the strange town of Achewillow that somehow rests exactly along the US-Canadian border, noted by a visible line drawn through town and through the little shop itself and without any kind of border security. This is somehow not the strangest part of Achewillow, and neither are the demon-fearing raccoons that keep breaking in to steal both her salt and her brioche.
I listen to a lot of audio dramas, radio plays, audio books, etc. I always have since I was young which l believe helped trained me into listening and focusing skills that are otherwise difficult. I've listened to poetry recitations on tape, old time radio plays over AM stations, and heaps and heaps of the glut of drama podcasts that have come out. After finishing the first season I think Achewillow is a particularly good listen. The narrative doesn't meander, the narrator is pleasant to listen to, and the audio quality is high so it never takes you out of the listening experience. If you like audio fiction please give it a listen and then post about it on Tumblr so I can see your thoughts, this is a selfish post in the end after all 😈🖤

Mistholme totally qualifies as a horror podcast, by the way
My personal opinion but comparing it with the other horror podcasts I listen to, it fits right in
I’d classify it somewhere similar to TMA and – although I never got into it – the SCP. It’s a different variety of horror but very much counts. Specific stories from The Mistholme Museum of Mystery, Morbidity, and Mortality definitely remind me of specific stories from… A Voice From Darkness, The Cellar Letters, The Storage Papers, The Magnus Archives.
And one story from a Season 4 episode is perfectly eldritch horror. Driving even the Audio Tour Guide into a state where it… dies. Instead of getting deleted/ destroyed.
So if you’re into anthology style horror podcasts and can sit through more fantasy/ sci-fi parts before the true horror begins, I totally recommend the MMoMMaM podcast.
And if you’re a horror podcast nut and haven’t listened to the other 4 podcasts I mention here, go check them out. And if eldritch horror sounds like your jam, Malevolent Pod is right there.
I still need to check out so many of the “Nine to Midnight” participants but I’m also behind on The Amelia Project (not horror) and I’m antsy for Malevolent and Cellar Letters to continue (if I wasn’t a college student without expendable income, I’d definitely support through Patreon)

Looking for a new listen? 🗺
Fans of The Mistholme Museum of Mystery, Morbidity and Mortality are sure to love the new show from its creator: Tales From the Low City.
An environmental and societal collapse has forced the residents of the dying world underground to the only remaining civilisation: The Low City. Each episode focuses on both the cultural and individual experiences of the lifeforms surviving in this place. If you enjoy The Vesta Clinic for the descriptions of alien biology and cultures, you'll love learning about the characters in this show.
Featuring excellent world-building, soothing narration and an expansive variety of stories, Tales From The Low City could be your next favourite audio drama!

Exercise Fic Recs 20
I have done 20 (?!?!?) of these recs so far, holy moly!  I think what I’m going to start doing is after every 10 rec posts, I’ll do some specialty recs.  After I rec everything I read this week, I’ll rec some podcasts that I enjoy (I LOVE PODCASTS, OMG).
Kind Truths by Mawiiish  (Superbat, complete.  Clark is Bruce’s plus one to a gala and has to deal with his ~feelings~ about Bruce.  Featuring protective Clark.  Very soft, very cute fic <3)
(one more and then) I’ll say goodbye by immolationfox  (Bruharvy, complete.  A take on how Battinson and Harvey Dent get together in The Batman (2022) verse.)
Stranger than Fiction by foxy_mulder  (Batfam, complete.  Little Timmy writes self insert fanfic about the Batfam.  Shenanigans ensue.  SO FUNNY, GIVE IT A READ.)
Masking by BombusBombus  (Superbat, complete.  A reread for me.  A fic about neurodivergent Bruce and Clark, the masks they wear for their personas, and how they come to love the real people beneath them.  Featuring the best scene discussing relationship goals and expectations.)
borderline by TheResurrectionist  (Batfam, wip.  An update to the batfam hivemind fic.  I am in love with this whole fic and always do a happy dance when it updates.)
Patchwork Pod by Kikat9  (Superbat, wip.  MERMAID AU!!  Bruce is a mermaid with no pod and Clark is the fisherman that befriends him.)
Story of the Century by navaan  (Superbat, complete.  Lois and Jimmy catch Superman and Batman kissing and get photographic evidence of it!  What do they do now?!?)
Stay by navaan  (Superbat, complete.  Clark won’t stay the night and Bruce wants to figure out why.)
Homecoming by Sparkypants  (Batfam, complete.  A look at Jason and Bruce’s relationship throughout the years.  Angst, but with a happy ending!!)
And now for some podcasts!!
Behind the Bastards.  Everything you didn’t know about the worst people in history.  I love the host, Robert Evans.  He used to work at Cracked and has done reporting for Bellingcat.
Qanon Anonymous.  A deep dive into the cult/conspiracy of Qanon and the other conspiracies that tie into it.  If you really like this podcast, they also have a patreon with some additional content and side podcasts.  One of the short, side podcasts that they are working on is called Manclan, which takes a closer look at online masculinity influencers.  That one is FACINATING to listen too.  And kinda sad.
Lions Led By Donkeys.  A military history podcast that goes into the worst fuck ups done by militaries.  Be warned, some of the topics they get into can be pretty heavy, so look at the episode summaries for warnings before you listen to them.
Welcome to Night Vale.  Different from the others I’ve recced, lol.  Incase you have never heard of WTNV on this hellsite, it’s a fictional podcast that takes place in the mysterious town of Night Vale, where all the conspiracy theories go to live.  Each episode is a radio broadcast, and your host is Cecil Palmer.  I also like to describe it as if NPR and The Twilight Zone got together and had a very queer baby.
Whenever I get my latte and croissant, I also get a breakfast sandwich, but I never picture it.  UNTIL NOW.  It’s a veggie breakfast sandwich with an egg that always has a gooey yolk.  DELICIOUS.
Tumblr media
They also had PRIDE DONUTS for Pride Month!  I had to get one for a snack after my walk:
Tumblr media
A red-winged blackbird.  He lost his keys and can’t find them :(
Tumblr media
Canadian goose!
Tumblr media
Big stretch
Tumblr media
The babies have entered their so ugly they’re cute stage:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Green heron.  I love how you can see their reflection:
Tumblr media
Grackle with some nest building materials:
Tumblr media
A robin!  They caught their breakfast:
Tumblr media
Blue heron!
Tumblr media
Close up:
Tumblr media
THEY SPOTTED ME:
Tumblr media
A robin again.  They were singing at me, so I had to take a picture:
Tumblr media
It was rainy and cool today at the arboretum, which was nice because the past week was hot here.  Didn’t see as many birds, but the scenery was still lovely to look at.  I can’t get over how pretty the water lilies are at the arboretum:
Tumblr media
A cool close up of a flower!  you can really see the raindrops on it:
Tumblr media
Another close up of some flowers.  I really like the color and pattern on this one!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Waterfalls, my favorite :)
Tumblr media
A neat iris with some raindrops:
Tumblr media
On to the birds!  A Carolina Wren:
Tumblr media
LOOK AT THIS COOL BUG:
Tumblr media
Indigo Bunting:
Tumblr media
Eastern Bluebird!  He’s so handsome:
Tumblr media
Omg, I love this Cardinal’s face:
Tumblr media
I love chickadees, they are so tiny and adorable:
Tumblr media
Another waterfall (because I’m weeeeeeak):
Tumblr media
There are two birds here!  The top one is an eastern bluebird, but I’m not sure what the one on the bottom would be.  Some kind of flycatcher?
Tumblr media
An indigo bunting looking off into the distance:
Tumblr media
Froggy!
Tumblr media
There is a bird in this tree, can you see them?
Tumblr media
Need a hint?  They’re right here:
Tumblr media
It’s a ruby-throated hummingbird!  This is the third time I’ve found this guy here!  He must like to be tall, or something:
Tumblr media
A chipping sparrow:
Tumblr media
There are also some really neat koi (I think?) in the pond at the arboretum.  They’re so big!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pretty flowers again to finish this off:

Teehee, bee butt:

Podcast of the Day: Monstrous Agonies
Monstrous Agonies by H.R. Owen
The Hook: From werewolves in the doghouse to new ghouls at work, there's no problem too strange for this weekly advice segment, from the UK's only dedicated radio service for the creature community.
Favourite Line: When I referenced 'bridezilla' in the introduction to one of our letters, I spoke unthinkingly, and caused distress and hurt to our listeners in the kaiju community. I sincerely apologise, and take full responsibility for my careless perpetuation of this harmful stereotype. Thank you to everyone who got in touch to bring this to my attention. - Episode 3
Thoughts: Monstrous Agonies is very relaxing listen. H.R. Owens as the Presenter has one of the smoothest voices in the podsphere that's always a joy to hear. They have a brilliant talent for giving the distinctive voices to those writing in for advice.
The show is about people from the creature community writing in for advice about love, relationships, and awkward situations that apply to their unique situations that come from being supernatural beings. Lots of the advice given is very good advice that might cross over to human listeners tuning into the podcast as well.
Episodes are bite-sized with two letters per episode and it's a very easy podcast to fall into for a few hours, especially if you're looking for something positive and soothing.
Transcripts Available: Yes
Patreon: Yes
Lupines, Ghouls, Banshees, Trolls, Questing-Beasts, Apparitions (LGBTQA) Characters: Yes
If You Liked: Solutions to Problems, Murray Mysteries, Love and Luck, or Neighbourly you might like Monstrous Agonies
Enjoying Monstrous Agonies? Please reblog and spread the word. Podcasts are usually passion projects and need the support of their listeners to get the word out. Catch you later!

ok so upon finishing s1 of malevolent, i am just so impressed. it's easily the most gutwrenching show I've listened to in a while. it has so much heart and humanity and so much eldritch horror - all with like. one voice actor. the talent there is just. HOW.
the sound design? chef's kiss. there's some stuff they do that i literally don't understand how that was conveyed with sound, but it was. the scenes with arthur's past, faroe, and even times where no one is talking? I could literally see all of it in my head. genius level sound designers and editors here.
and arthur. i want to study him like a bug in a petri dish. give him some snacks and a cup of tea and just. prod the blorbo. there is so much about him I love and there's also so much wrong with him but like. in a good human way. he's my funky little protagonist. beloved ruthless dude.
there are also some parts that are straight up goofy? I felt bad for laughing at some of it but like. it's clearly intentional to have some moments that are silly to offset the HEAVY subject matter. the way john says arthur's name gets me every time. he has a TONE of voice specifically for when he and arthur find something gross. he takes that tone a lot. it's funny. there's a frog man and a moss cow. there's a coma arc like tma. there's married couple bickering.
if you haven't listened to malevolent, this is me telling you that uhhhhhhh you might wanna
come aboard the tma > st. kilda > hallowoods > malevolent pipeline with meeeeeeee
