There is some podcast conspiracy this week to release as many episodes as possible. Camlann with regular episode and a special, Victoriocity with first two episodes of s3, Hello From The Hallowoods with first episode of s4, The Amelia Project x Midnight Burger crossover, The Magnus Protocol, Mission Rejected, Inexplicables, Welcome To Night Vale, Travelling Light…
I am not complaining but I am drowning in episodes

YOU should listen to Travelling Light (and here's why)
it is late and I am feeling very powerful which means that I am going to convince all of yous to listen to this wonderful wonderful podcast.
Things that are wonderful about this wonderful wonderful podcast:
-the worldbuilding! it's a sci-fi podcast, and we get to follow the unnamed traveler as they start to explore outside of their relatively sheltered community. The story is told through archived voice recordings from the traveler to their community, so everything is through a fresh set of eyes, and it's detailed without feeling like exposition (and when it is exposition, it's so carefully wrought that you can't be mad)
-the protagonist my beloved <33333 they're inexperienced but incredibly kind, and we get a very gentle description of the world.
-speaking of gentleness, just, the setting??? (which in this case is different from the worldbuilding) This is a sci-fi world that's very peaceful, and there's lots of very human (alien?) moments--two characters bond over a piece of technology not working, there's a botanist who keeps plants because they like them, there's fiberarts and children's toys and interfaith lunches--it's a universe that's built around peace, which is really lovely to see.
-the voice acting!!! H. R. Owen is a mastermind of voices, and when they switch from the main narrator to impersonating one of the other characters I often forget that they're voiced by the same person. There's also a more Northern British accent, if that entices you (I know that at least one of you who might be reading this is British and likes accents)
-queer stuff. everyone is queer. like half the characters are nonbinary. it's great we love it.
-the length! This might be a more personal preference, but each episode is around 15 minutes long, so the podcast isn't intimidating to get into at all, and you can listen to a whole episode while folding laundry or making yourself pasta. Also, as of right now there are only 7 episodes up, so if you like to be caught up on shows you can binge it all in just a couple of hours!
-there's audience interaction! I'm still getting a feel for the show and haven't submitted anything yet, but you can submit ideas for the archive (and if you support the show on kofi you can vote on what the traveler should do!)
-in one of the episodes there's a recording of an in-universe drinking song which is very catchy and I adore it.
Please go listen to it, it's a really great show and I want to have people to talk about it with.

Audio Drama Sunday - 14th Jan ✨
Oh, friends, I have had a shit week but these listens have definitely gone some way to making it bearable. Happy Audio Drama Sunday 🎧
👻 @tellnotalespod oh how I love you and how I have missed you!! It seems that some time has passed since the end of S1 and Leo has OBVIOUSLY made absolutely stellar choices in the meantime. Nothing is better for one’s mental health than isolation and trusting the slimiest creature on god’s green earth.
🦀 @thesiltverses (37) my beloved Silt Verses have returned with a frankly exceptional HOUR long episode filled with so many things to scream about that I don’t even know where to start. Val’s revelation that extreme power can also be used to bring people joy is VERY interesting indeed. They were never going to be able to control her, but I doubt it even more now. And PAIGE stepping up!! Part of me really wants a Val vs Paige stand off but most of me wants to protect Paige at all costs… I am loving the music choices this episode and the scene with the telephone calls was so good! Also, PLEASE stop foreshadowing Carpenter’s death, I am going ‘lalalalalala I can’t hear you!!’
🧳 I listened to episode 8 of Travelling Light by @monstrousproductions after a night shift and the hazy tiredness only served to make it even more transcendentally beautiful. I adore the blossoming friendships aboard the Tola, especially between the Traveller and Óli 😭🌌
👁️ @malevolentcast (39) I love it when you can *feel* that an episode is gearing up to a season finale, a few little loose strands tied up here and there but one BIG problem looming for the finale. I NEED to remember to not listen to this show when I’m emotionally compromised in any way because I found myself bloody sobbing as Marie was talking about her son. I should know that Malevolent is going to play dirty with my emotions.
🏛 @the-mistholme-museum ENDLESS okay I don’t want to ruin this for anyone who hasn’t listened yet but !!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!! and !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! let’s go!!!!!!!!!!!
🐬 @patterspod P Files brought creative levity into our lives with the tale of Professor Fantabulum. I’m honestly a huge fan of the idea of creative genius as a torch passed on to the people who you inspire
🌨️ @thewhitevault (5) Oh I just don’t trust this guy at all. . . everything he says is so perfectly plausible that there’s just obviously something wrong with him. My friend pointed out that the family meeting mentioned surveyors . . . . .  Now S has been killed by something . . . . I just adore the way The White Vault slowly ramps up the cosmic kind of horror but you’re so distracted by all the other scary human shit going on that your brain is primed and ready to be terrified by the obviously fictional stuff by the time it happens. It’s such clever writing!!
❤️‍🔥 The Love Talker (6) Ah, now, Ren…. Just because you *can* do something, doesn’t meant necessarily mean that you should… you feel me? Some of the anatomical descriptions in this episode made me want to vomit a little. It’s so awful, I need to know what happens next!!
🏢 @somewhereohio (S2E5) I’m absolutely living for these scenes with Green and Sterling. Are they squishing my heart into pieces? Yes. Do I feel sick to my stomach thinking about the impossibility of trying to perfect and control the one you love? Yes. Can I have more, please?
🍾 I finished season 1 of @ameliapodcast and what an absolute DELIGHT that ending was!! What an absolutely masterful raising of the stakes at just the right moment in time to keep the listener absolutely hooked. I hope Tara and Lily come back one day, they were so much fun and I think will be even more fun as free agents!
🌫️ @souloperatorpod dropped this week and the first episode is very intriguing indeed! I think I need to relisten without any distractions if I want to stand a chance of collecting all the threads of red string I’m going to need for this show! I really love the theme music and am very excited for more!
♦️ The Grotto continues to be an absolutely WILD delight. I caved and listened to two episodes this week but it’s okay because I still have ep 4 in my back pocket. I love the music, the sound design, the fact that it is literally impossible to work out what the hell is going to happen next. Go listen to The Grotto!!
Thanks to everyone making art - it makes things better 💓 I’m so excited for @camlannpod next week!!

I'm back from my break! Here are my thoughts about some of the podcasts I've been listening to this week for my weekly audio fiction Sunday blog post!

the latest episode of Travelling Light is probably my favorite so far, it really got me, the conversation, the strange magnetism of that woman, our hilariously flustered traveller 10/10

*Spoilers for Ep 13 of Travelling Light*
As an attorney who spends most of my time writing and reviewing contracts, I was at first delighted but on reflection completely horrified by this week’s archive entry in which the Traveller visits a town where every social interaction is governed by written contracts which are frequently renegotiated.
I can’t stop thinking about it.
What happens if there is a completely innocent and well-meaning difference of opinion about a contract term?
What if someone is really bad expressing themselves this way? (Lots of lawyers suck at contract drafting!)
Do they define all their terms? What if a word is defined one way with one person and differently with another person? They said that everyone in the town has contracts with everyone else. How would you keep track?
The person telling the Traveller about the system seems stymied by the thought of someone violating a contract but what if someone did just because they got one person’s contract mixed up with someone else’s?
I’m obsessed with this idea. I may need to write fan fiction.

The Traveller from @monstrousproductions podcast "travelling light". They seem like a deeply comfy, practical person to me and what doesn't scream that more than a pants and skirt combo

Shouting out the trailer featured at the end of last week’s episode! Travelling Light by @monstrousproductions is a cozy scifi show exploring different places and cultures, a bit like a chill travel show. It’s a really great audio drama and I love hearing about all the different space-y places and beings and all the rest of the worldbuilding. That’s always been my favourite part about sci-fi, to see which wacky things a writer came up with and I think Travelling Light's doing a great job at that without stressing you out with big space wars and whatnot. Also, for some episodes the listeners can help choose how the story continues!!! So if you like THP, here’s another show you can influence!
And if you’ve listened to THP’s newest episode, don’t forget to vote! You still have until next Thursday to help Rena navigate this new city. And if you haven't yet, what are you waiting for? There's some cool steampunk-y stuff waiting for you!

This is a weird appreciation post for the first fiction podcasts I've ever listened to: Monstrous Agonies and Travelling Light, both by @monstrousproductions / @indieninja92.
I discovered and started listening to Monstrous Agonies in late September, right as the final season was ending. I was really grateful for that timing because each episode became a brief and kind respite from the horrors of October: Watching a genocide unfold in Palestine and being shocked at the ambivalence of so many people in my life whom I love and respect, especially people in my local faith community. I felt disillusioned and betrayed to the point of questioning my belonging in that community, because I didn't know for how much longer I could bear to be the only person speaking up for Palestinian life and freedom in a community that I had considered my justice-seeking home (or one of them at least). Anyway, I could forget that, and the death, and the grief, and the fear, for a few minutes while I listened to other creatures' problems on Monstrous Agonies.
My timing was also great because I was able to start listening to Travelling Light as soon as I finished MA a few weeks ago. In episode 7, the main character visits a temple of their own faith while planet-hopping far from home and says, "I do not have the words to describe the wave of relief that washed over me as soon as I walked inside." This is exactly how I felt when I finally gathered (no one else was organizing this, I realized I had to make it happen) with local Christians committed to solidarity with Palestine. And when we connected with the local Palestine justice collective to create a beautiful nativity scene and powerful Christmas vigil. I felt so alone and weak trying to push my congregation on my own, like I was lost in space. Being with people (of my faith and not) whose hearts were breaking the same way as mine felt like coming home, even though I barely knew them (then). (Now I am also feeling ripples of that relief each time another member of my congregation cautiously and belatedly expresses solidarity with Palestine. But I no longer feel like I have to claw it out of them, because instead I'm building with this new community.)
Listen to Monstrous Agonies and Travelling Light! And free Palestine!

Audio Drama Sunday - 21st April ✨
Here are the shows which got me through a particularly heavy set of night shifts! 😌
👻 @tellnotalespod (S2E78) The music in this episode was so sad 😭. Of COURSE Frank hadn’t considered the emotional nature of the tether in his research. Jesus 🙄. Leo needs to start running this show ASAP.
🌲 @hellofromthehallowoods (148) I’m absolutely obsessed with Buck’s glow up. Honestly, goals. What an interesting cast of characters we have aboard this ship, I can’t wait to spend more time with them. Dashiell reporting to have never met Valerie snuffs out one of my early theories … unless he’s lying! I’m so scared for Shelby and Clem! The action writing has always been amazing in this show but the TENSION this season. I can’t cope. Also, that body at the end! A reference to the circle of fifths?? I’m gonna get emotionally wrecked by the murderer reveal, I can already tell.
🧳 Travelling Light @monstrousproductions (18) oh these Augurians are so lovely and mystical but I was hit by a wave of sadness thinking about one old soul whose aviary is down to one single bird companion and then getting the prophecy of when it will die 🥺 But my sad thoughts were soon drowned out by the 🚨HOLDING HANDS ALARM🚨. Good grief, they’re bloody adorable.
🎙️WTNV (246) I’m so glad we actually got to hear this story!! I couldn’t agree more, Abby, it is not incomprehensible that two living people could haunt each other. I’m reminded of a fave Everything Everything lyric ‘if he’s dead, he’s not a deadbeat dad’…. you feel me?
🏛 @the-mistholme-museum (ERASED) oh, boy, I sure hope this episode title is just a fun word which begins with E and not a reference to what’s happened with HoResearch! Anyone down to make a petition for one more season where the guide just talks to itself? It’s so cute!!
🖥️ The Magnus Protocol (12) oh god, I bloody hate mascots/clowns and this is not helping at all….
🍎 @notquitedeadpod (XXXVI) I don’t like listening to Alfie cry 😭 forgive me, but I’m mentally not ready to give up on the idea of Cas coming back. I believe that Haley believes in what she’s telling Alfie but I’m also like… babes, you maybe want to ask your consultant about that? I need to relisten with a notepad or something to get this new biology lore down because it’s so interesting!!
I’m thinking about starting Hi Nay or Small Victories this week, I’ve heard such good things about both of them! If you have a particular fave or if there’s a show you think I’d prefer more - let me know!!
