I started this Parse comic almost a year ago (!) but I’ve only just managed to put it together now. I have a lot of thoughts and feelings about Kent and how he mostly exists in bits and pieces as seen through the eyes of other characters.

There’s just something about being haunted and defined by your past (mistakes) but also finding strength on your own. (And how there can still a hopeful ending despite it all.)

Been poking at writing check please fics again and I think Kent should be one of those stat guys, the type who not only knows all his numbers but also is keeping track of everyone else's numbers too, reminding them of when they have a benchmark coming up quick. It's really impressive and a little scary but also kind of annoying, especially because he's definitely made up fake stats before too just to fuck with his teammates.

I think it's part of why he and Jack bonded in the beginning not just because they had good liney chemistry but also because they shared a love of the game that verged into the technical fiddly bits of it. Had long conversations on the bus about every team in the league and their stats and weaknesses. Probably was part of why they were so good with two people with high hockey IQs able to not only analyze but also implement that knowledge.

Get ready for OMG ZINE, PLEASE! #2: #SwawesomeGreetings!

When we started omgzineplease, we were going into unknown territory. Thankfully, y'all have been gracious with our little foal steps, and as a result, the zine had been a resounding success.

In the wake of that success, we are pleased to announce the prompt for the next volume: #SwawesomeGreetings!

Yes, a zine about the holidays for the holidays during the holidays. A time and place for fic and fanart of your favorite characters partaking in holiday spirit: be it setting up decorations, upholding sacred traditions, subverting traditions, opening presents, fighting off the mob during Black Friday, listening to Christmas music (or subjecting others to the music), counting down to the new year, and so on.

The key thing is that it has to occur during the holiday season (roughly November to the start of February; Halloween and Valentines are explicitly out) and be tied to holiday themes, not just generic Winter themes.

And don't feel like you're restricted to Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Gregorian New Year's. After all, many different holidays like Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and Lunar New Year happen during that period as well!!

Like the past iteration, this will be a multi-month affair, with sign-ups happening in August, check-ups happening throughout the process, and the zine being published in PDF format February 2024.

Sign-ups open August 14, 2023 and more specific guidelines will be released then as well.

Looking forward for y'all to take part. This will be a 'swawsome time.

Like, to kent, here's the boy who knows him like no other - who sees him to the truth of his closest athlete core and like, forget breathing in sync, it's almost as if where Jack breathes out, Kent inhales. There's the thread of zinging awareness between them, an energy that verberates between the core of their being. Jack knows what kent will do before kent does, and vice versa.

And Kent's trying to explain allll that, his heart in his mouth, his guts spilling between them. And Jack just looks at Kent and all he says is that Kent wasn't that special.

Jack might have been everything (hockey, love, understanding, the one person unlike any other who Kent knew and was known by) to Kent - but to Jack, that feeling was just ... hockey. Replaceable, and not unique.
