me and binya fed the pigeons in the park again and it is very cold and quite rainy atm so they havent been fed very much recently and they were Ravenous. very naughty and squabbly too

a lot of them were all puffed up because of the cold and i got a picture of this very handsome and round borb

Passenger Pigeon (Ectopistes migratorius)

Extinction Date- 1914

Habitat- Eastern United States

Size (Weight/Length)- 200 g; 40 cm 

Diet- Nuts; seeds; Berries; Insects; Worms

Cool Facts- Imagine the sky so full of birds that it seemed like night. That’s how John James Audubon described the migration of the passenger pigeon. In the 1800s, passenger pigeons were one of America’s most abundant birds. These huge flocks would feast on acorns, beechnuts, and chestnuts, spreading millions of seeds. Their communal breeding colonies would cause branches to snap by the weight of thousands of birds. When a ‘resource’ seems endless to humans, they always find a way to exploit it. Passenger pigeons were slaughtered in the millions for their feathers to be used in pillows and their meat. Extinction was not defined when the passenger pigeon began their decline. In 1895, the last egg was taken from the wild as a museum specimen and the last wild individual was purposefully shot in 1896. In 1902, the last captive bred passenger pigeon was given to the Cincinnati Zoo, her name being Martha. Martha passed away in 1914 and with her, an entire species.

Crumbs of Wisdom- Focus Your Fury

Anger is a heavily judged emotion. It’s one we’re often wary of. And understandably so- the behaviours it can lead to can be harmful to ourselves or others if left unchecked. But all emotions have their place. We’re allowed to feel them; this includes our anger. We just need to be mindful of responding to them, rather than reacting.

We need to be more open to learning WHAT our emotions, in this case Anger, are trying to tell us. WHERE we feel it in our bodies. WHY we’re feeling it in the moment. WHEN we’ve felt this exact rage in the past. HOW justified it is right now. And WHO is responsible for how you respond to it.

The only correct answer to the last one is you, but I’m sure you figured that out.

Ultimately our anger is protecting us- it encourages us to set boundaries, stand up for ourselves and others, help us be more assertive. It’s an overprotective friend; but it needs to be kept in check. Don’t misdirect your anger to what doesn't deserve it. Focus your fury on what needs to change to move towards a more understanding world.

Tagged by: @lavampira (Thank you!) Tagging: You (: Here is a snippet of a sensory prompt for Prudence! Written in 2nd person PoV because that is my true happy place.

“You should be avoiding bar fights,” The chirurgeon’s tone is bleak, dull. She has said this to many people over the course of many years. More so than usual, lately, with the tension in the streets. She says it because it is her job to chide you, because on some level she still cares for her patients and doesn’t want to see you back here. She didn’t remember your name but she knew you by your past injuries. You imagine her updating your file, the name smudged out, ‘broken nose and black eyes’ written in print so precise it could be artwork.

Her hands are gentle and cool as they prod at your face. In the reflection of her glasses you catch a glimpse of yourself and feel satisfied. A dark flower blossoms across both eyes, the swelling obvious from the outside looking in. Your nose is a flattened, bloodied mess. You mentally remove the distortion of the reflection and your satisfaction grows, curling around your core like a purring cat. Smug and overfed and about to go ruin the furniture.
