You know what I want? A little novella from Philippe's perspective. Can you imagine how funny his inner monologue must have been after Matthew and Diana time walked?

Like, it's been a few months since they left. The other Matthew is now back at Sept-Tours and makes a comment about how he will forever hate witches, and Philippe has to stop himself from laughing.

Or whenever he and Ysabeau hear that Matthew has taken a new lover, Philippe is hopeful for a moment and then gets really disappointed because, "That's not Diana!"

He must have had so much fun making little passing, vague comments to Matthew over the years.

Verin: I'm starving! Let's go hunt.

Baldwin: Just have some wine, I never find much when I hunt around here.

Matthew: Really? I always find more than enough whenever I hunt in this area.

Philippe, with a little smirk: That's because the Goddess of the chase truly loves you.

Centuries later, Matthew sits up in bed, eyes wide.

Diana: Matthew? Are you alright?

Matthew, whispering: The Goddess of the chase truly loves me.... Oh my God!

Father and son come to an understanding and Philip tells Matthew what he needs to hear to make peace with himself.

This is my favourite scene in Adow and has me crying rivers. So poignant, so beautifully acted by James Purefoy and Matthew Goode.

I was rewatching ADOW and had to laugh at a line I didn’t catch before, Diana is worried that Philippe won’t like her and Matthew says something about how he didn’t exactly welcome her with open arms at first either and I had to pause and laugh because Matthew de clermont you absolute fucking liar. You flirted with Diana from the first interaction even if your intention was to get the book. Boy welcomed her with open everything.

PHILIPPE COULDN'T TELL BALDWIN ABOUT DIANA.

He literally couldn't.

Matthew told him - or Philippe guessed - that Baldwin was on the Congregation. If any vampires drank his blood, they'd see whatever plan Philippe had charged him with. So he couldn't leave him a note explaining everything!

But De Clermont reactions to finding out the Earth is not flat 😂

I feel Gallowglass new long before they others? Just because he absolutely loves sailing and will have been all over the world, and noticed that he in fact did not tip over the edge.

The "Ancient ones" (meaning the Greeks and Romans (not 100% sure where Stasia and Hugh are from, but they're ancient at least)) in the family, that being Philippe and his eldest three children, Hugh, Stasia and Baldwin, knew a long time too that the earth was in fact round, in my opinion. "By around 500 B.C., most ancient Greeks believed that Earth was round, not flat. But they had no idea how big the planet is until about 240 B.C., when Eratosthenes devised a clever method of estimating its circumference." But no matter who they are, how long they've lived and all that, I think for anyone as old as they are, it will be somewhat of a shock when they found out that the myths had been wrong all along about it being flat.

I can see our beloved scientist, Matthew, looking through a telescope for the first time seeing round planets all around. Or when he saw the first satellite images of the earth (back in 1959.)

This is gonna be very niche but my fancast for book! Philippe de Clermont is Damiano David. Like I know the show aged up the characters to make them look more fitting to be Matthew ‘s adoptive (?) parents but Philippe was the son of Zeus and he was meant to be so charismatic that men would gladly follow him to war, and he was passionate and so *alive * and in my head Damiano is perfect.

Like in the book Diana had a proper moment when she first met Philippe and was like, oh fuck he’s hotter than his son.

And I just think that the fact that he looked young (ish?) made his death even more tragic somehow, with everything Matthew did and Ysabeau’s everlasting anguish and yearning and Diana’s resolve to be with him in his final moment, and the way he haunted his family after, but they could never see him.

I can’t wait for the writer to publish a book focusing on him and Ysabeau even though I know it’s gonna hurt a lot because Ysabeau has such a horrifyingly brutal beginning and while Philippe saved her, her sexual trauma never really went away after all the centuries and really impacted her relationship with Philippe.
