Very very early draft of a scene in the next chapter of this fic:
Tumblr media
“We parted amicably.” Lin scoffed. “What?”
“Nothing,” she said, crossing her arms. “I forget how delusional you are sometimes. That’s all.”
Something inside him twisted. “We did—”
“Tenzin, we didn’t. You make yourself believe we did so you feel less bad about the whole thing.” And the wind stopped blowing. She turned away, unable to look at him. “Look… it’s late. Forget I said anything.”
“Lin—”
But she was already walking away.

Red
Written for Lin Beifong's Week (Day 6: Soulmates)
Pairing: Lin Beifong/Bumi II
--
When Lin was a young girl, she was told many stories.
Of course, there were ones about her mother and her friend’s heroics in the Hundred Years War and beyond– they’ve become part of regular conversations growing up. There were the outlandish ones made up by her Uncle Sokka, though– those never failed to make her laugh– and countless others about the spirits and mystical creatures that populated the world around them and beyond.
Of them all there was one that struck Lin in particular. The story of Red.
Yue was the goddess of the moon, the one who worked harmoniously with the ocean spirit La. Yes, this was the story everyone had become familiar with for many years.
However, what many did not know was Yue’s reach as the matchmaker goddess.
How? What did that mean?
Through the color red.
The Red strings of fate. A person’s connection to others manifested through these strings. Friendships, family, and other relationships, the people someone meets can make an impact on their life in one way or another.
Forever connected through a kind of love.
Hearing this story for the first time, Lin bounced about, giddy with curiosity. Green eyes widened the size of dinner plates and sparkled brilliantly.
Was this story true? What would this mean for her when she was older?
The mind buzzed with the possibilities. She could not wait to grow up.
When Lin went to bed that night, she dreamt of red.
***
Lin hated the color red.
As it turned out, red was not her color.
Good fortunes, her ass.
Red. It was the color of loss.
The blood shed from her comrades when the missions she led went wrong. Especially the first one. That one always stayed with her. It turned to a festering sore that was never able to fully heal.
One seemingly minor detail missed, one rash call, and the world shifted on its head.
Telling parents and significant others of their losses did not get any easier. Flashbacks of their ear piercing cries, the sight of all the blood. There was so much of it and she was unable to do a thing about it.
She shuddered so hard her bones ached.
As the years went on, the weight became increasingly heavy. Day by day she internalized the guilt, letting it accumulate. This was the burden she had to bear. Lin grit her teeth and carried on.
It was the color of betrayal.
The blood that spattered across her cheek when Suyin rebuffed her disapproval of her lifestyle and turned against her.
A finger trailed down the side of her face in remembrance of the incident before it fell to her side limply.
Though they have become few and far between nowadays, there were still moments when she could hear the metal cables snapping and feel the resulting blinding pain if she thought about it too long.
She clenched her fists. Tight enough her knuckles blanched. Nails were too damned short to break the skin of the palm of her hand. A heated exhale through her nose accompanied a severe rake through loose hair. Desperate for another distraction and feel something.
Red. It was anger. It was the color she saw when she found out about… her… and them.
“Look, Lin. We have been growing apart for a long time now. We are completely different people. It was time we admit we are going down different paths in life.”
“Then you talk to me like the adults we are!” she screeched. “Or rather, supposed to be,” raising a wary eye at the acolyte who was still clinging onto Tenzin’s arm.
“Tenzin and I are soulmates,” she chimed in. “You can’t give him what he wants. What he needs.”
The audacity– “Who are you interrupting our conversation?!”
“Don’t talk to Pema that way!” he warned.
Pema…
The air suddenly pulled from her lungs. Shock and hurt flashed across her face before settling to fierce anger. “You cannot tell me what to do. Not now. Not ever.”
“Lin!”
Tenzin’s call to her was drowned out by the blood thundering in her ears. She turned away in a blind fury, desperate to go somewhere. Anywhere. Nowhere. Lin moved directionless through blurred tears, the earth beneath her feet led her way out.
Those times when she went to bed at the end of the day, Lin rolled away from the moon’s light.
Some nights, she tried to think about those stories she used to hear as a little girl. The thoughts made her curl in on herself before pulling the covers up to swallow her whole.
Red was nothing more than a childish dream. Now that she was older, she knew better.
Her sleeps became dreamless.
***
Lin did not believe in soulmates. She found it to be a preposterous idea.
To find and have someone who is connected to you with happiness and good fortune? Give her a break.
But–
When Bumi returned to Republic City from his United Forces deployment, the first person he wanted to see was her.
It had been years since they saw each other last. He looked good in his red and gold uniform. Really good. Down to his wild hair and couple of buttons fastened askew. Even with how brutal being part of the United Forces can be, especially in his position, Bumi was still… Bumi.
The breath of fresh air he helped bring into her life was hard to ignore.
When he tried to treat Lin to a bouquet of flowers and strawberry shortcake for her birthday. It was the first one they spent together.
“Bumi, I appreciate the thought, but I’m not touching that.”
“What? It’s not like I made it. We’ve been through that mess before. Got it from PikPak’s Pastries,” thumbing in a vague direction over his shoulder outside. “It’s light and looks good.” He waggled his eyebrows and wore that classic rakish grin.
“I’m allergic to strawberries,” she deadpanned.
He froze. “Really? Well– ha–,” he raked a hand through his coarse hair and smiled sheepishly. “Sabotage! Sabotage, I tell you! I thought I had this whole evening set up with dinner and a dessert. Of course it would not all go to plan. Strawberry cake and flowers… foolproof romantic treat in theory, yeah? Well such is not my style it seems,” he chuckled.
“Hey–” she gently cupped his cheek, smiling kindly. “You know, they sell another one that is similar and made with cherries instead.”
Bumi immediately perked up. “Cherries, yeah! Cherries are good!”
She softly nodded with a warmth in her eyes. “Cherries are good.”
The two took the trip hand in hand to the bakery and picked up fresh slices.
The rest of the night was spent in, exchanging stories and taking comfort in the other’s company.
It was a happy birthday. One of the best ones she had in a while.
When Bumi and Lin would settle into bed for the night, his arms brought her in tight, cradling her head and waist. A tender kiss placed on her forehead before gently whispering, “Goodnight, Linny. Love you.”
Lin melted into his embrace, turning her head into the crook of his neck to whisper, “Good night. I love you, too.” Eyes fluttered, she was a breath away from slumber.
For an instant, Lin glanced over Bumi’s shoulder and caught the moon in their bedroom window.
Bright and whole, it illuminated the night smiling down at her.
Lips curved up slowly before sleep overtook the couple for the night.
Maybe–
Just maybe.
Red wasn’t so bad of a color after all.

Linzin cuddles and marshmallows?
"What the hell?" Toph said as she went to open the front door of her house. "Twinkletoes Junior. I could sense you shivering the moment you set foot on the ground. What are you doing flying in a snowstorm?
Tenzin stood shivering with one hand on his retracted glider. The other hand was up, ready to knock for entry. He had a bashful smile on his face and he scratched the back of his neck. The snow outside had already accumulated up past the tops of his feet and didn't show signs of letting up. "I came to see Lin," he admitted.
"Get in here before your mom kicks my ass for letting you get hypothermia."
The young airbender shuffled inside and took his shoes off, putting his glider by the door.
"Lin!" Toph yelled. "Your idiot boyfriend is here! Come deal with him!"
"What?" Lin shouted from her room. Her thudding footsteps came down the stairs. "What are you doing here, Tenz?"
"We had plans." Tenzin deadpanned.
Lin scoffed. "We had plans to go to the outdoor mall. Which, as you're aware, is outdoors. You know I hate the cold."
"I know." Tenzin's teeth clattered from his shivering. "I still thought we could hang out though."
"Why are you shivering? Don't you have built-in heating or something?"
Tenzin frowned. "I still haven't figured that one out yet."
Lin squinted her eyes at him and sighed. "Come on." She started back upstairs. "You need to get out of those wet clothes."
Tenzin followed her and waited awkwardly in her doorway as she grabbed some clothes from her drawers. She shoved the clothes into his hands and pushed him into the bathroom. Tenzin knew better than to protest outright. He unfolded the garments and saw that she had given him some gray sweats and a black t shirt. He got changed and placed his orange and red outfit on the radiator to dry. The pants fit surprisingly well, but the hem of the t shirt barely came down past his belly button. He was still trying to pull it down when he walked out of the bathroom. Lin saw him and laughed heartily.
"Stop it, Lin. This is embarrassing."
"That'll teach you to go flying in a snowstorm, twinkle toes."
"Don't call me that!" Serving to add to his embarrassment, his voice cracked.
Lin doubled over laughing. Tenzin's face went from pink to red.
"Come on, mom made some hot cocoa." She said as she wiped away her tears.
Tenzin followed her downstairs to the kitchen. She told him to sit on the couch and brought in two steaming cups of cocoa. He graciously accepted the cup and held it with both hands to help it warm his fingers. The sweet smell of chocolate filled his nose as he breathed deeply over the mug. Lin tossed a blanket over his legs and sat next to him, pulling the blanket halfway over so it covered her legs as well. She sat by the arm of the couch, but close enough that her leg and arm pressed against his.
"Thank you, Aunt Toph!" Tenzin shouted at the kitchen doorway.
Muffled grumbling came from the kitchen, and Toph came out and threw a bag of marshmallows on the low table in front of them before she moved off into a different room. Tenzin grabbed the bag of marshmallows and plopped one into his mug. He took another one in his hand and shot a questioning eyebrow at Lin. She held out her mug and took one as well.
The two teens sat in silence and enjoyed their cocoa as they listened to the radio. Tenzin enjoyed the excessive sweetness on his tastebuds. Not many things on Air Temple Island were so sweet. They relied on community donations more often than not. Mugs were returned to the table when they were done, and Tenzin reached for Lin's hand under the blanket. She rested her head on his shoulder, and he rested his head on hers.
They watched the snow fall out the window and were slowly lulled to sleep by the warmth and calm.

🌤️ 💧❄️ for wips plsss 🥹
Hi Mochi! Thank you for the ask. I'll try and give you as much Linzin goodness as I can😉 Also, these are super duper extremely rough. Go easy on me🫠
🌤️Share your favorite piece of dialogue from your WIP.
"No matter how many walls you erect, Lin- no matter how far and wide you travel, do you really think you can escape from your past? You're always going to be the woman Tenzin left behind. Because no matter how many accolades you bring home- how many lives you save- the number of sacrifices you make- you're always going to be Tenzin's bitter ex-girlfriend from those newspaper clippings. And that's the real truth about being a woman. You confused womanhood for motherhood. And that's why you lost Tenzin."
I hurt my own feelings here.
💧Share something romantic/hot from your WIP, or just something sweet if it's gen.
I think this is both romantic and kinda hot- at least the direction it's headed in haha.
Tenzin leaned in to whisper in her ear. Of course, nobody could hear him, but Lin stiffened when he spoke. "I need you take your clothes off." His hand was on the small of her back, massaging the area carefully. Lin glared at him. He may be the last Airbender, but she was ready to live in a world with none. He was simply insufferable. And of course he'd say something like this when he was around. "Tenzin, zip it!" she chided from between gritted teeth, looking straight ahead. Tenzin laughed and casually moved his arm around her shoulder to draw her closer into his embrace. "What can I say, councilman," the man continued. "I thought you had found soulmate in the young acolyte." Lin stifled an eye roll. Or maybe she was just distracted by thoughts of killing Tenzin. His hand dropped back down under the table inconspicuously and made its way up her thigh. Lin stiffened again. But when his fingers glided between her thighs, she actually considered fracturing those appendages between her well-sculpted adductor muscles. "Pema was but a chapter in my book. Lin, on the other hand, is the whole story of my life. She's on every page." And now he had to go and be a sweetheart. Asshole! His hand slid under her skirt. That's it. No more Airbenders.
❄️Share a snippet from a WIP of your choosing.
Poppy called out to her granddaughter for the second time that morning. The Beifongs weren't known for their patience. But when Poppy yanked off the duvet to reveal her wild house guest, she was greeted by pillows. This was Lin. Lin Beifong didn't sleep in late like her mother. Lin Beifong, like her mother, snuck out of the house though. "Lao, send the guards out to find Lin!" she yelled, expecting, like routine, for her voice to reach her husband downstairs. "She's been here less than a day and you already lost her?!" his voice shrieked back. "If I could carry her in my mouth like a horse-frog, I would. But we're humans!" The yelling was incessant but very natural to the couple. It was their love language- of sorts- their most sacred modicum of communication. They would argue from different corners of the house- and while they wouldn't lose their voices, most around them were sure to lose their hearing. But just as the scullery maid, Yin, in the kitchen was about to plug her ears with cotton, the bathroom door slammed open against the wall. With a thin towel wrapped around her body, Lin's eyebrows joined at the sight of her grandmother in her bedroom. "I didn't run off! I went to shower." Lin had to yell to make sure her grandfather heard her too- else the old couple would still be screaming, beating around the bush. Luckily, Yin's ears were plugged.

iona's introduction post!!!!!!!!!
hello hiiiii i'm iona [she/her, aro lesbian]. this is a sideblog, my main is sideeffected! i've been involved in the atla/tlok fandom for the past few years, though i've always had a special infatuation with the beifongs & their dynamic.
i'd love to have more lin-loving mutuals, maybe even make a friend or something ;) i'm very active and trying to interact more i swear :((((((
i've posted an abundance of lin edits over at my tiktok and instagram, arolilith.
my favourite ships are (by far) linzin, tyzula & azutara/katzula (unsure of the official name, lmao) but i also care deeply for kataang, sukka/zukka, linumi, linzumi, and kyalin (pretty much any lin paring (apart from linzolt. i just don't get it))
i'm very interested in the worldbuilding surrounding the atlaverse, especially the societal changes between atla and tlok.

2. a compelling argument for why your fave would never top or bottom
Lin is a top in every other aspect of her life. She is fuckin tired and just needs to give control to someone else every once in awhile. Please let Lin rest for the love of god.
9. worst part of canon
Theres a lot of canon I think could’ve been done differently. For the sake of simplicity I’ll just say:
- Korra losing connection to the past lives and opening the spirit portals. (basically all book 2 honestly but mostly those things hahaha)
- All of the LoK comics. (Except the comic with Toph and Katara.) I refuse to accept any of the Kuvira plot line as canon.
23 ship you've unwillingly come around to
Pemzin — used to be hardcore Linzin gal but then I realized that Lin deserves so much better and those two can have each other. Still love some good linzin angst though

We need new smut 💋☺️🙏
I agree. Here's a little spontaneous spicy piece for young Linzin.
Rating: M
This was such a bad idea.
They shouldn't be doing this. Especially not like this.
"No one can see us, Airhead." Lin leaned back against the rock, arms pressed beneath her bare breasts that only accentuated the soft curves. Tenzin's mouth ran dry as he studied the beads of ocean water sensually creating thin trails that cascaded over the slopes and dripped beneath hardening nipples. Is she not cold being this exposed in the open? A bit of ocean gently stretched across their feet, the rocks protecting them from sight and the harsh sunlight.
"Someone could see us!" His voice cracked slightly as he tried to pry his eyes away from her half-nude form. Instead of putting on her bindings, she curved and leaned back against the rock. The position only enhanced his view and all of the blood continued to rush to his groin. "Lin, let's just go back to the cabin!"
"Don't be a sissy." She raised a brow at him, jade eyes noticing the bulge in his own pants. A sly grin curled on her face, mischief glinting at the corners of her eyes. "I can see that you're already half-convinecd."
Tenzin blushed, adjusting himself so that it wasn't as noticeable. But now that Lin had seen it, he knew it would only intensify her temptation tactics. "I can't help that part. But I'm convinced we should continue this in the cabin."
"We're already half-naked." She slithered over to him, chilly palms touching his chest and trailing down to his abdomen. Tenzin's stomach jolted slightly at the ticklish sensation and a new rush of desire hardened as a slender finger began to trace the underside of him. Lin leaned closer, purring for his ears. "And I want you."
"D-do you?" His toes wriggled into the wet sands, hips grinding slightly beneath her touch.
"Why don't you feel for yourself?" Lin grabbed his hand and guided curious fingers to slide past her swimsuit bottoms. As two fingers glided in easily, a small gasp fell from her lips as she felt him exploring deeper.
"Spirits," Tenzin growled against her hair, his strokes becoming more firm and pulling higher gasps from his girlfriend.
"See? Let's just," a moan interrupted her and her face fell against his chest, "finish the job."
"Is anyone here?"
"If you don't hurry up, there will be." Lin pushed her face further into him to absorb the loud cry as he added more pressure into her.
"You're going to be the death of me," he whispered, voice low and deep.
Her hand slipped past his waistband and wrapped around the hard length tightly. "I don't see you complaining about it," she bit back, stroking him completely.
Tenzin swiftly turned her around and pulled her flush against him. She immediately arched and grinded against him, moaning as he met every sensual sway with more pressure. With a wavering patience, he pulled his pants down and spread his legs. His fingers returned to stroke past Lin's bottoms, teasing her clit and occasionally dipping into the soaking depths. He pushed the fabric aside and aligned the head of his member at her entrance.
"Come on, Tenz..." came her needy moan as she attempted to push herself onto him.
He held her in place, sliding himself across the slick folds and coating himself with her personal liquid desire. "Unravelling quickly, hm?"
"You're the one worried about hmm..." Lin bit down on her lip, eyes closing as an inch accidentally slipped inside her, "...someone catching us..."
"If I'm doing this, I'm doing it right." Without another warning, his grip against the fabric secured and he sank into her completely. His eyes rolled back, subtle hisses releasing with Lin's breathy gasps at the sensation of heat and pressure joining them as one.
Tenzin's free hand snaked from her waist and clutched Lin's breast as his hips collided against her firmly. Their moans and gasps were disguised by ocean waves, the wind barely carrying evidence of their lovemaking to any strangers. He squeezed the soft globe harder as he pounded into Lin faster, deeper. Her moans were the only sounds drowning in his ears, the small bubble of their pleasure becoming the only reality.
Lin cried out as his fingers tightened around her nipple. She curved further into Tenzin and the new angle paired with his intense thrusts stroked the right fires within her. Guiding his hand from her breast, she forced his touch to rub against her clit as sexual pressure began to build up quickly. Being with him for long enough, he knew how to touch her, where, and how much pressure to apply that would leave her legs wobbly.
She turned her head, arm snaking around the nape of his neck to bring his lips to hers. His teeth attacked her lips, grazing them possessively. She signed her name along his lips, stuttering moans mingling together. Their teeth clacked softly a few times from the way his body pushed into hers. A low groan rumbled against his lips and he bit her lips, earning him a delicious mewl from Lin. "Ten, you're going to make me..."
His voice and low grunts sent shivers down her spine as the wind chilled her wet skin. "You're so beautiful."
"Flameo, Tenzin!" she cried out, eyes clenched shut and voice disappearing as she tensed against him. Her walls quivered around him as the intense thrusts carried over to a heavenly space. She gripped his arm, nails digging into his skin as a sexual high possesed her entire body. "Tenz..." she gasped.
Every time she said his name was a magical spell that would him over the edge, and this was no exception. His thrusts quickened and he smothered his low moans into her neck as he released inside of her, pressing her hips as closely as possible to his. As his own high slipped away, he pressed a kiss against her neck, licking at the salty water dripping down to her collarbone. "I love you, Lin."
When he slipped out, Lin turned and snaked her arms around his neck, pulling him down for a kiss. His hands wrapped around her waist, urging her closer as their body heat protected them from the ocean breezes. Slowly pulling away, Lin planted a last sweet kiss on his lips and then both sides of his cheeks.
"I love you, too."
------
I just freewrote this in like 15 minutes, so it's not the same as my usual smut pieces. But yeah, we needed a little more Linzin smut and spiciness so I decided to just put something together haha
Hope you enjoyed anon! xx

How would Pema react if she saw the Linzin photo from the fic "Looks aren't everything"? What about Kaz?
For anyone reading this who is unfamiliar, the photo anon is referencing is of Tenzin standing behind Lin with his arms around her.
I guess the answer depends on the setting. If Pema is going through photos with Tenzin she'd probably breeze past it and pretend not to have seen it. If she were alone she'd prob throw it out lol.
As for Kaz, I think he'd just be like

Do u draw for other ships as well? Linko mainly or even Linumi. If noz do you take requests or commissions
I'm confused. I'm drawing mostly Linzin and Linzolt atm. I barely upload smth new. If you were in any way interested in my art and following you would realise my output for the ships I like is already really small. So.. how and why should and could I add even more? 😔🥲 And I DID post Linumi art in the past (it's rather a sketch and I have a bunch wips in my pipeline. But no mood to work on them.). Drawing Linko never worked for me. I tried. It looks odd and I can't really experiment that much on a ship that's kinda low on the food chain for me. Perhaps someday for my timetravel Linko, but... not right now.
Atm I only stick to drawing what I feel like and what makes me happy. I barely have free time and stamina at the same time to invest into art and then inspiration needs to hit too.. so I go with whatever feels right and works out. And where it doesn't matter as much if I barely get any Likes, cause it can be so very depressing when you put a lot of work into something and nobody seems to appreciate it.
So recently it's mostly Linzin and babies/toddlers cause I'm in the mood for it. No idea how it will be in half a year.
I rather don't draw for strangers anymore... cause no matter how nice you try to be. You put a lot of work into something, don't get a thank you and people even start calling you names, cause they dislike the ship and you don't want to draw their other ships cause it's simply not for you. So I draw for friends when I'm inspired and in the mood. I may take ages for these but that's at least worth it, even if people get mad at me again for 'the wrong ship'... at least I know I made friends happy...

Hi hi
For my birthday, if you're still up for it: I was hoping for a post canon Linzin- first kiss after the break up🥺
Or write whatever else if you don't like this ^ I'm not picky.
This is very very sweet of you, so thank you🥰
So this one gave me multiple ideas so here’s the first one. Hope you enjoy!
“That definitely wasn’t what I was expecting,” Lin smiles after their picnic.
“Well, I wanted something different for the first official date,” Tenzin smiles back nervously, “I know you might still be on the fence about everything so I thought being away from prying eyes would be your preference.”
“Official is right, kind of feels like we’ve been doing this for the last month or so without calling it what it was,” Lin points out.
“Maybe we were,” Tenzin shrugs.
“This was good,” Lin feels for her key.
“Right so here we are,” Tenzin gestures to her door but the two just stare at each other, neither willing to make a move.
“What are we doing Tenzin?” Lin wonders why they are still just staring at each other but Tenzin interprets it differently.
“ I love you and want to be with you Lin. That hasn’t changed since I said it a few months ago,” Tenzin squeezes her hand.
“Tenzin, I…” Lin trails off. She knew what she felt but had trouble saying it out loud.
“I don’t want you to feel like I’m rushing you. I want this but I want this at your pace, whatever you see fit. We have all the time in the world to decide how far this goes, if that’s something you decide you want,” Tenzin lets go of her hand, “have a good night Lin.”
“Night Tenzin,” Lin gives him a small smile. He steps towards her and Lin thinks he’s going to kiss her but instead he pulls her in for a hug.
“I’ll see you at the meeting,” Tenzin releases her.
“Right,” Lin nods hiding her disappointment before entering her home.
“Chief, you've got an admirer!” one of the captains chuckles as Lin walks past his office the next morning.
“Shun?” Lin turns to her assistant.
“Well, I think you should see for yourself,” Shun points to Lin’s office.
“Fine,” Lin walks into her office where the first thing that catches her eye is a bouquet of various lilies.
“Someone’s laying it on thick,” Mako peeps into Lin’s office.
“Can I help you with something or do I need to find something for you to do?” Lin glares at the firebender.
“Is that a panda lily?” Mako points to the flower in the centre, “he’s got it bad Chief.”
“Whatever Mako,” Lin rolls her eyes before finding work for him, “I need that box of files sent to the archive. Please get them done there.”
“Well I actu-,” Mako tries.
“You had time to check in on my love life, you have time to do that,” Lin points out.
“Yes chief,” Mako sighs as he lifts the box.
“Thanks,” Lin closes her door behind him so she can inspect her flowers in peace. When she sits at her desk she notices a note attached to the bouquet.
My lily, I had a great night. Thanks for coming.  -Tez
Something about him calling her lily again made her heart skip a beat. She told him she wanted a fresh start of whatever this was but old habits die hard. Old nicknames could get a pass. Actually, it reminds her of a time when she didn’t wait around for what she wanted.
“What am I waiting for?” Lin asks herself. She had to make up her mind about letting him in again before she even agreed to a date. She knew she loved him, she knew she wanted to try again and she knew she actually wanted the kiss she expected after their date. At fifty eight she wasn’t going to wait around awkwardly, no those days were long gone, she was going to do something about it. And so, Lin finds herself at Tenzin’s city office trying to get past his assistant.
“Master Tenzin asked not to be disturbed, he has a lot of work to do,” his assistant informs her
“Typical airhead is probably obsessing over the next presentation,” Lin grumbles to herself before deciding to continue into his office despite Tenzin’s assistant’s objections as she follows Lin.
“It’s fine Yuri,” Tenzin nods to his assistant who promptly leaves and closes the door behind her, “hey I was just-.”
“Nope,” Lin grabs a fistful of his robes and pulls him towards her for a kiss.
“Wow,” Tenzin gapes at her when they break the kiss.
“I love you too and I want to be with you,” Lin confesses.
“Lin…,” Tenzin looks around awkwardly.
“Shit, you changed your mind about this,” Lin takes a step back.
“I didn’t change my mind,” Tenzin insists before pointing to a corner in his office, “we just have an audience.”
“Uh, hi Aunt Lin,” Jinora waves awkwardly from the couch where she and Rohan are looking over some scrolls.
“Jinora, Rohan,” Lin struggles to maintain her composure after her new boyfriend’s? Partner’s? Lover’s? children witnessed their first kiss in almost two decades and her subsequent declaration of love.
“Can’t say I’m surprised,” the eighteen year old Jinora smirks at the two.
“Jinora,” Tenzin groans.
“Your feelings were pretty obvious the last time Aunt Lin came to the island,” she points out, “Meelo and Ikki were trying to figure out how long this would take.”
“Obvious or not, we would appreciate it if you kept this quiet. This is very new,” Tenzin requests.
“Secret, got it,” Jinora nods before turning to her brother.
“Right secret,” Rohan agrees.
“We’ll give you two some space. Ikki and Meelo should be here for our lunch soon,” Jinora rolls up the scroll and helps Rohan quickly pack his bag.
“Bring aunty to dinner,” Rohan tosses over his shoulder.
“Our whole families will know by the end of the day,” Lin figures as she locks the door behind his children.
“Rohan has gotten better at keeping secrets,” Tenzin insists as he rests his hands on her hips.
“Right,” Lin rolls her eyes.
“They did what?!” the couple hears Meelo screech from outside. They look at each other and all they can do is chuckle.
“Now that we have the first kiss over with,” Tenzin strokes her cheek before leaning to meet her lips for a deeper kiss which Lin happily indulges.

Fandom questions! ^^
B, C, E, O, W
Heyy girl! Ooh, so many questions, I love it 🥰
B: A pairing you initially didn’t consider but someone changed your mind.
Any of the non-canon ones tbh. This past year has been my first time getting actively involved with fandom/shipping, so I could pull from any of those lol but S/O to @orangepanic and their Irosami agenda.
C: A pairing you wish you shipped, but just can’t.
The main one that comes to mind is Kyalin. The fan art is cute, but my heart will forever and always be Linzin. The chokehold they had on me when the show first came out and now is real
E: Have you added anything stupid/cracky/hilarious to your fandom, if so, what?
Hmm I think I’ll have to shout out my Ryu/Kuvira rare pair fics. No one thinks about him and besides he’s such a bum in canon, so it is a cracky pair
Also another one maybe Date Night. It was based on Iroh slipping into dirty talk which feels odd for his canon character haha so mind you its sooo 🙈 being my first fic, thinking about it makes me wanna jump sometimes fr 😂
O: Choose a song at random, what ship does it remind you of?
I put my liked songs on shuffle and got Problems - A R I Z O N A and it’s giving Mako for me. It’s a good vibe while putting overthinking onto words beautifully. Aside from that being part of his character, he’s overly hated in a lot of the fandom, like sheesh let the boy rest
W: 5 favorite characters from 5 different fandoms.
Fruits basket- Hatori Sohma
My Hero Academia- Shouta Aizawa
Spy x Family - Yor Forger
Wednesday - Wednesday Addams
Full metal alchemist (brotherhood) - Olivier Armstrong
Thanks for the ask!

For the DVD commentary, from My Brother's Girlfriend:
You see, Tenzin admitted that he was quite the romantic. He had a talk with his parents about it very early on in life. He told them that he didn't want to be the father of the air nation even though that would inadvertently be his responsibility. He wanted to give his children the same childhood he had: one where his parents loved him and his siblings the same: bending, warts and all. He wanted to marry for love: not to repopulate the world of it's airbenders. Aang had hugged his son tightly that night. At the ripe age of eleven, the boy understood what most of his older acolytes couldn't seem to follow. Yes, the world needed more airbenders. Yes, what happened to the airbenders was an atrocity. But it happened in the past. Neither can one dwell in the past, nor must they yearn for a future. What mattered was the present and what one can do with the gift of today. Aang always told his kids to do their best every day and if they did that, the universe had it's ways of rewarding them. That night, Aang promised his son that he'd be free to do as his heart desired. That the universe will settle the unbalance.
And then there were airbenders. His own brother amongst them.
Tenzin's conundrum between choosing a man, woman, or bender he loved and his legacy was finally resolved. Even though his father and the Avatar had already given him the freedom, this was the universe's way of telling him he was indeed free to make his own choices. He liked to think that everything changed after harmonic convergence, but really nothing had. He still traveled the world and taught the principles of air nation alongside airbending wherever needed. He spent a total of two years at every temple, summoning more and more airbenders and introducing them to their element. Even though he was constantly surrounded by benders and acolytes alike, the experience was rather isolating. Aang and Katara would visit him from time to time, but his only loyal companion was his trusty sky bison, Oogie, who grew up with the young bender.
No, but this was not about legacies or bending.
Tenzin was displeased- furious even, at whom, however, he didn't know. But why? Clear as day. Because while he was searching far and wide for the love of his life, his unknowing brother slid right past and won her over with his unequivocal charm. He couldn't even blame her- not that he knew her or her type- to fall in love with someone like Bumi. For the longest time, Tenzin would wonder how he was actually related to this cacophony of a man and to think that now his whole purpose- his soulmate- was the very point of commonality between them.
Coming to Chapter 2 of My Brother's Girlfriend, where the plot actually begins plotting: I like to think of the first chapter as kind of a prologue, with the second chapter being where to story actually starts.
This whole excerpt here serves as the "We are throwing all of canon into the trash and this is what's up" memo to catch the audience up with what setting this fic/ship is going to take place in.
As you all know better than anyone by now, I love a good "more than one person is in love with Lin and she's oblivious" trope. But, because of canon, I also LOVE a good jealous Tenzin fic. My guilty pleasure is those fics where Lin and Bumi are together and Tenzin is losing his mind from the moment he finds out.
So, it was only fitting to sorta re-do canon from the point where it became a problem for my first ship: Linzin. What if Aang led the Harmonic Convergence instead of it being a random consequence of the actions of Korra and Jinora? What if Tenzin stayed true to being an air nomad? What if the oldest two kids of the legends of the 100 year war got together?
Despite poking holes in the "plot" of canon, I wanted to keep the characters true to as they were written. And enter, Tenzin: a hopeless romantic. Inspired by his own parents' iconic love story, he feels almost entitled, if not blessed to the opportunity of true love. He plays by the book. He does his due diligence. And he knew the universe would reward him. He didn't need to marry and "breed" for the sake of is legacy anymore. In fact, it wasn't just him, he was sharing the weight with Bumi who had gained airbending through Harmonic Convergence (on that note: I also wanted to explore what Bumi would be like had he not had the whole "I am a disappointment because I'm not an airbender" thing going on. Would he still join the United Forces? If so, would he return home once he got airbending?).
In that regard, Bumi and Tenzin surely have a better relationship here than in canon- in the sense that they don't resent each other and their parents for their biases. But there's still some tension due to their polar opposite personalities, and furthermore, there's one-sided tension on Tenzin's side because he falls hopelessly in love with Lin, at first sight. One minute he's thinking of ways to ask Lin out without wasting any time, and the next, he is introduced to her as his brother's girlfriend.
Like canon, Tenzin can be pretty entitled. He strongly believes that Lin's with the wrong man. He doesn't seem care to think about Lin's feelings on the matter. He has this mindset that's like "if she could fall for Bumi, she could definitely fall for me with so much more ease." And because of that mindset, he is convinced at a very shallow level, that Bumi stole his girl.
I hope you enjoyed this commentary!

Linzin Week 2021: Day 3 - Stargazing (part 3)
WIP Pre-Canon AU Lin x Tenzin Rating: Eventual M To the Linzin week 2021 organizers: Is it fine to post a WIP - a serialized contribution? Will post it in AO3 as well once completed ✌🏽 Read part 1 here.
Lin was looking forward to a quiet soak in the bath. She figured it was late at night enough that Tenzin would have retired to bed.
Upon opening the door, smoke wafted to her face. Something smelled… burned, she thought while coughing.
“Lin, is that you?” Tenzin’s voice came from the balcony.
“What happened?” Lin fanned away the smoke as she to him.
Tenzin was slouched on the outdoor chair, bottle of beer in hand. “I attempted to cook.” Tenzin’s face was pinched.
“Aw, you were supposed to have a dinner date?” She leaned on the doorway. “Scared the poor girl away?”
There was a strange look on the airbender’s face. “No…she didn’t show up.”
“I’m sorry.” She said and realized she was sincere about it. She pointed to him and waved to the still dissipating smoke. “Didn’t think to use airbending?”
“Oh.” Tenzin’s eyebrows furrowed. “To be honest, I wasn’t thinking straight.” Then he took a swig off the beer bottle.
Ah, it was that kind of night.
By all appearances, the airbender was a stickler for air nomad tradition. However, his parents both agreed to raised him and his siblings in a more liberal way. This resulted in the siblings to adapt any practices of their parents’ heritage into the quickly modernizing society.
And that includes the occasional alcoholic drink for this airbending master.
“How was work? A little bit late, isn’t it?”
“Terrible.” Lin slumped into the opposite garden chair and grabbed the bottle off Tenzin’s hand. “One of the detectives mucked up the paperwork. His sergeant and I had to work double time to meet the deadline for the indictment.” She took a gulp from the bottle before giving it back.
There was a relief in his expression that puzzled her.
“That’s grea- terrible indeed.”
She rolled her eyes. “Sarcasm still does not suit you, airhead.”
Tenzin continued to punctuate the otherwise quiet night air with comments about his day and questions about Lin’s.
They took turns from the bottle until Tenzin finished the last swallow. “This is nice.”
“Hmmm?”
“We haven’t had this long a conversation since... I don’t remember when.”
Huh.
Tenzin gestured to get more beer and she nodded.
She sat back, scratching her arm as she thought.
That was sad, in reality.
But nice. No expectations. Reverting to their old habits, their old patterns to before they became a couple.
She squinted.
That had been so long ago.
“Say, do you want to go up?” Tenzin held two bottles of bear, cold with icy condensation at its surface.
“I don’t see why not.” Lin stretched, took one bottle of beer then followed Tenzin to the rooftop.
There was no actual furniture on the rooftop, but there were some wooden crates that they had fashions into makeshift seats and tables.
Pulling up a crate, Lin remembered why they selected this apartment.
It was not in the more glamorous districts in the city. It was quite close to the suburbs, to be honest. That was something they both liked to have maybe in the future, a quaint quiet home in the suburbs. Until then, this is the closest they could get.
And well, they took it on because the apartment unit was at the top floor with easy access to the rooftop.
Tenzin settled little ways to the side, about two crates away from her.
She popped open both of their bottles.
“There isn’t a lot of stars tonight.”
A glance at Tenzin revealed he was observing the sky.
Lin simply shrugged. She knew him well enough to know that a Tenzin who has had alcohol is a talkative Tenzin.
“We were discussing about oral tradition earlier in class. One of the students shared about the Earth Kingdom superstition that you can actually use the stars to find your soulmate.” Tenzin hunched on his knees, picking at the label of the bottle. “Do you believe any of that?”
“Believe what?” She decided to humor him.
“Soulmates.” He replied quietly, not meeting her gaze.
“Soulmates…” Lin took a gulp of beer first, considering her words. “Can’t say I do.”
The airbender now turned to her. In his haste, his almost full bottle had liquid swished on the floor. “Why not?”
“I mean, look at people we grew up with,” Lin grimaced, using her fingers to count. “Uncle Sokka didn’t really settle down, did he? Was his soulmate the moon spirit? We can never know.” She took a tip and pointed out another finger. “My mom – we don’t even have to explain that further -.”
“But doesn’t the thought of someone out there to be with you sound, well, reassuring?”
“Not really. Sounds like a load of excuses not to put effort into a relationship since you knew from the get-go, you’re for each other.”
“So, you really don’t believe in soulmates?” Tenzin asked slowly.
“Pffft no, of course not. Soulmates? Oh, come on.” Lin decided a change in topic was needed as the current conversation was about to get maudlin.
 ---
He tore off the label of the bottle.
But, I do.
 ***
As with any of their annual vacations, aside from a day or two spent with the entire group, everyone was pretty much left to their own devices.
This made their farce a bit easier to pull off.
Tenzin decided early on to spend most of the time in their room. Lin was barely there anyway so it work.
Tock-tock-tock.
“I know you’re in there.”
Knowing that his brother will not leave until he acknowledged him, Tenzin opened the door.
Bumi entered without waiting to be invited in, hands behind his back. He made a face on the papers sprawled on the table and most of the other surfaces in the cabin room. “Come now, Tenzin – there’s a reason why it’s a vacation.”
“I need to get this done.” It was a weak argument, and he knew it.
Bumi knew it.
“We’ve seen more of Lin than you in the past few days. So that means you haven’t had a lot of couple time either.”
“We see each other all the time.” Tenzin prevaricated. Technically, they did occasionally cross paths at work.
 ---
Bumi rolled his eyes. “Sure – at work, eh? Well, if I can’t bring you out to the party – I’ll bring it here until to agree to get out.” He brought out his ammunition. “Uncle Sokka’s personal brew!”
Tenzin struggled to catch the tall suspicious (yet unfortunately familiar) bottle.
“I’m not drinking, Bumi.”
“Oh yes, you are.” He swiped the papers off the couch and plunked himself on it.
He did not really have any other agenda other than to get Tenzin relaxed enough to join them for tonight’s excursion.
Bumi grinned as his baby brother finally popped open his bottle.
 ---
But, whoo boy, a Tipsy Tenzin was a Talkative Tenzin.
 ---
“You’ve broken up for that long?! Spirits, Tenzin! Why didn’t you think to tell me or anyone?
“Look, I knew you were proposing to Izumi this week. We didn’t want to take that away from you.”
“Still.” Bumi pondered a bit. Maybe his brother needs a wingman now? “Do you want me to bring you over with boys, when we’re over at Republic City? We can introduce you or better yet, we can go around town now and -.”
“No, thank you, Bumi.”
“Don’t you still live together?”
“Yes.”
Are you stupid? “How is that going for you?”
“It’s fine. We’re now glorified roommates. It still gives me privacy from our parents, you know. And a bit of a sanctuary. And it’s fine. We do our own thing and it’s fine.”
“Bro, you said it’s fine too many times.”
“Lin’s totally fine with it.” A beat. “She’s a big girl, she can take care of herself. It’s not like she’d like to move back to their old house either.”
Bumi frowned but agreed.“To be fair – no one asked us about our relationship so we haven’t been lying.”
“Yes, you’ve been omitting the truth. I see you’re fitting really well in city hall, councilman.” Bumi patted him on the back.
 ---
Clunk.
“Oh, I’m sorry – did I wake you?”
The whiff of air that wafted towards him smelt of smoke, sweat, the odd smell of old alcohol, and something distinctly Lin.
“No, I was doing –.” His eyes scanned quickly the bedside table. “Some light reading.” He put up the pamphlet. “You didn’t disturb me.” He saw the clock say it was three in the morning.
“Sorry,” Lin was quickly pulling out clothes from her side of the cabinet. “Don’t worry – I’ll just take a quick shower and try not make a lot of noise. I’ll head on to bed too.”
Tenzin turned to his side of the bed, unwilling to think of what (or who, he thought distastefully) Lin might have been doing.
Not that she wasn’t in the position to do so. Of course, she was well within in her rights to do so.
Maybe telling Bumi wasn’t the smartest idea. True, he promised to keep it to himself.
Rather, Tenzin knew Bumi and the rest had gotten back to their accommodations a couple of hours earlier (judging by the racket when they were trudging nearby).
Usually, Bumi would have insisted to see to it that all of their party would have gone home together. But then again, knowing that Lin was now single, he probably did not mind if Lin had gone off on her own…
The sounds of the shower from the en suite can be heard.
Tenzin pressed his palms to his eyes.
He told Bumi it was fine.
Who was he kidding – it wasn’t fine. He wasn’t fine.
And, unfortunately, he didn’t know what to do about it since only one-half of the broken-up couple did not seem to be fine.
